It's not about the Lies, it's about the Truth

@marauders4evr makes a good point in their meta that Aziraphale acts very differently about his lies in A Companion to Owls. We see him lie quite often. His first lie is to God. He lies to the Archangels in other circumstances, usually about Crowley. He lies to Crowley quite a bit. Aziraphale is an angel, and he lies.

And that's just the thing, isn't it? Aziraphale isn't upset about the act of lying about Job’s children, but about the truth it hides - that he actively defied orders and questioned God’s Will. “I lied,” he says, “to thwart the will of God!” It's that clause at the end that's the true crux of it. Angels may lie, but demons defy.

Aziraphale exists in the margins of the rulebook. When he lies in Eden about the sword, it’s more like passive misdirection - he was never specifically told not to give away the sword, after all. He lies for the same selfish* core reason in Uz - to preserve human life - but this time he is actively going against his orders of nonintervention. That is a fundamental difference that makes this lie unlike any others he tells.

Because remember, the reason Crowley fell is because he questioned God’s intent to end things after 6000 years, but more specifically, because he wanted to save his beautiful stars. And remember, *Aziraphale was responsible for the creation of humanity. When he saves Job’s children, Aziraphale is doing exactly the same thing Crowley did - defying God’s will to save his own piece of Creation.

Well, here she is actively downplaying intersectionality and anti-racist action in disability spaces in particular.

And then there’s all of this.

Re ableism, here she is veering way the fuck out of her lane to police autistic identity and say we should assume auties are faking it (and this from a “disability advocate!”) This was, I believe, where she started picking fights with @autisticliving.

And - the reason I personally don’t want to see her - here she is in a saga where she again tries to gatekeep mental illness/mental disability, I gently call her on it, and she doubles down hard. Here she is sending ableist anon hate to me, because the doubling-down wasn’t enough. And here she is making herself out to be the victim in all of this because I had the temerity to point out that she actually makes money calling herself a disability advocate, but treats actually disabled people like shit, and it made her feel bad.

She claimed, after all of this, that she wouldn’t ever speak on mental illness or mental disability again. Which is, y’know, a really shitty way for a “disability advocate” to handle a broad category of disability. And she didn’t stick to it - I don’t have an easy way to find it now or the spoons to do a deep dig, but I’m 90% sure I saw her returning to these habits at least once after this.

I’m not angry over this any more. But I’m so fucking tired, and I really wish she’d face some fucking consequences for this shit.
