Sol/Ky always confuses me. I understand how it works on a technical level, and I understand the base roots from which it ground itself in (rivalry m/m romance is well established). I think what always gets me about it is that I always thought that the majority of their relationship that they genuinely didn’t like each other.

It makes my brain staticky.

Anyway though, I can’t imagine Sol saying lover guy in a positive manner. Just thinking about it makes me feel like he’s being insulting towards anyone who he bestows it upon. Just call me an incel, Sol. I know that’s what you mean.

Oh yeah. Canon Sol and Ky, before Strive, would run out into traffic before doing something as familiar as hugging the other haha They LOATHED each other. Well, I think maybe Sol was just annoyed by Ky since Ky was this young punkass trying to be "righteous" and Ky was maybe a bit more antagonistic because Sol kept breaking rules (like stealing Fireseal) and was grating to be around for everyone, which then amped up to Sol also being antagonist towards Ky. They're both at fault. In any case, there was a small undercurrent of respect between them over the others' accomplishments and combat abilities, but overall it was like trying to mix oil and water. Utterly incompatible personalities. They're amicable now, but if circumstances played out differently I think it wouldn't have been outside the realm of possibility that one may have ended up actually killing the other.

That said, the ship likely became THEE m/m romance in Guilty Gear because Big Gruff Alt-Fashion Guy and Small Well-Kept Posh Man, on top of the rivalry thing as you said, is all some people need to ship characters together haha Guilty Gear's lore in general wasn't very deep until Overture dropped either, which left their relationship an open playground for fanworks. I can see how it took off and if the canon is removed from the equation I can see the appeal too, in a way. The canon makes it too uncomfortable for me though, and I think the deep layers of their rivalry makes their relationship more interesting than it would be as a romantic one.

They hate each other, but they respect each other, but they can't stand each other, but Ky trusts Sol enough to raise his kid, but Sol respects Ky in return enough to actually do it. Putting them into a mutually romantic relationship changes all of that. Of course Sol would look after Sin for Ky if he loves Ky, of course Ky would trust him to that degree if him and Sol had hooked up. You know?

The jokes about shipping them are funny because they hate each other so much. There's so much negative energy between them that it loops back around to being mildly homoerotic, and if they saw their relationship from an outside perspective and realized that that's how it looked, they'd lose their collective shit most gloriously. But actual, honest, homoerotic love between them? There's no way it's any deeper than the kinds of jokes long-term platonic friends make towards each other

snapping my arm in two in order to reach so fucking hard and throw out the possibility that venoms magic might be ki. but the problem is that there is literally nothing that supports this, and given the already difficult attributes of ki and its usage and mastery, this is why im calling it a reach lol

MY basis on this is pure speculation, and also keeping the possibility that there may or may not be a "darkness" element if a "light" element supposedly exists (but is not confirmed) on the back burner, but im moreso drawn to the note that ki tends to respond to strong emotions. and. well. venom seems to harbor some pretty intense ones lmao. now this ki might be amplifying the "darkness" in his heart, causing it to take on the form that it does, but again, theres literally nothing that supports this. its just speculation.

also, while i could argue that he uses lightning magic in ggx-ac+r, it feels weird to say this when it completely changes appearance in xrd to not even remotely resemble lightning... its so weird how hes one of the only magic users who somehow does NOT have a discernable element use in his magic. what gives

Annon-Guy: Was there ever a point in the Guilty Gear series that made you sad cry and/or happy cry? These can also include the Non-Canon endings from X and X2 if you like. (I'll admit Kliff's ending in GG1 can tug on the heart strings a bit.)

I think some of the most moving scenes were:

--When Frederick grabs a man's hand and saves him from a collapsing Elevator in Guilty Gear Begin (and reflects on his past cowardice). --When Viidia checks Frederick's wounds after the Owl and Dog attacks, and also her final words to him in GG Begin as well.

--When Ky gives a moving speech to his men before they sortie out to face the Gear Horde in Rome during the Crusades (GGXX Side Red/Side Black Drama CDs).

--When Millia Rage recovers some of her self-worth from Slayer's advice in Night of Knives (after Slayer frees her from her hair seal prison).

--When Venom gives his respect to Sir Gottfried before his death (also in Night of Knives) and resolves to protect Zato even if it means defying the impossible mission Zato gave him.

--When Millia and Venom clash over the child prince Salteria Calroni (also during Night of Knives).

--When Millia admits she can't handle children (and Johnny helps her find Adoption Parents for Salteria, also during Night of Knives).

--Ky's rage and anger upon realizing Kliff was wounded by Testament and Justice (depicted in GGXX Story Mode, Justice' story).

--Sol's confrontation with Justice for the first time (depicted in Accent Core Story Mode, Order-Sol's story).

--When Venom confronts Crow Kuruwaba for his actions as a representative of the Postwar Administration Bureau (Accent Core Story Mode, Venom's Story)

--When Faust confronts Zato in Xrd Sign for the first time in many years.

--When Chipp gives May a "lecture" about people she values in Xrd Sign.

--Bedman's explanation on "Originality" to Ramlethal in Xrd Sign.

--When Dizzy encourages Ky (reminiscing about their first GGX encounter) in Dizzy's Rev2 Episode.

--Raven's "farewell" to Asuka in Rev2 After Story.

--Sol's "Listen to your Heart" comment to Jack-O' in Strive, and later saving Jack-O' from inside I-No.

--Baiken's emotional transformation during her encounter with Delilah in Another Story (as well as meeting with Nagoriyuki later on).

I could probably think of more, but those are the most outstanding ones to me…

I can't say I got VERY emotional… but the music helped… some of the best songs still resonate with me even now.

But I will definitely say that GG resonates with several core pieces of my heart… moreso than other fighting games I've ever played.

I remember years ago that you speculated that the OutRage were all sentient elemental beings like youkai that Sol sealed into instroments(kinda like how Dante from Devil May Cry turns the souls of the Devils that he defeats into weapons). Do you still think that the theory is still credible with all of the new information since STRIVE came out?

Well, if you've been following my OutRage and GG Weapons tags, then you know there's a lot of pre-existing information and history on the Jinki as well as Youkai and War Relics.

For context though, I've written down the basic definition of an Instroment as a Magic-infused object.

In general, the Conclave (and even the P.W.A.B.) have been fearful of the OutRage ever since they recovered pieces of them, which is why few have ever seen the Jinki in action, since according to Sol many weapons and War Relics were kept in Harden Fortress, and even Asuka R. Kreutz is cautious when mentioning the OutRage or even the Saint Oratorio Lab Cannon.

But in case it wasn't obvious, two of the Jinki in particular have emitted some unique supernatural powers already.

Thundersealed Sword: ---Has been known to regenerate itself as well as emit powerful Time-seal Powers. ---When Ky performs "Rising Force" (his Instant Kill…) a Sylph-like being appears behind him (GGX sprite version)… it is very similar to Elves or Elvish beings with long ears in appearance and long hair. In the latter Xrd version, an Angelic being is superimposed on the background of Ky's attack.

Zessen Void Fans: ---Was used as a Barrier over the Japanese Dimensional Colony and early lore suggested it could only be activated by Japanese Bloodlines for their own protection. Aside from this, the fans have multiple forms and sizes when they shapeshift similar to Gears. ---When Anji performs ZETSU (his Instant Kill), a Wind Dragon appears underneath him which he rides atop until it hits his opponent.

Justice' Body Armor: ---While not entirely 'sentient' it transforms in accordance with her will, almost like a symbiote (in fact Eddie's Shadow Organism Body and Angra's Hair Curse are derived from lost Gear technology that can shapeshift in a similar manner). This property would later be inherited by most Valentines. ---While Dizzy does not bear Armor herself… the OutRage logo has appeared in her "Magic Crest" alongside her Gear Seal crest in early sprites of her design from GGX to GGXX. Dizzy also has uniquely shapeshifting abilities similar to this armor. Dizzy's clothing does transform as well to suit her needs.

Tyr: ---The young mysterious boy who fought alongside Kliff Undersn during the Crusades, while he doesn't have a clear-cut backstory… everything about him suggests he was transformed in to a Gear since fusing with the Dragon Fenrir. ---Aside from his dangerous powers which can transmute matter in to virtually anything, Tyr has been known to RESONATE with the existing OutRage Jinki… which suggests they were semi-aware or cautious of him. ---In his sealed state, he took the appearance of a Dragon Statue-like Deity which the Japanese people revered and respected… that is until Geena broke into the colony and woke him up with her Fire Magic… she lost her hand in the skirmish as a result!

Non-Jinki Weaponry of Note: ---While it is not a "Jinki" like the others, Nagoriyuki's sword appears to be possessed by a Gashadokuro "Hungry Skeleton Ghost" when he performs his Overdrive WASUREYUKI. Also the sword is known to "grow" in length in an almost symbiotic-like way to help Nagoriyuki feed when his Blood Lust increases. ---Ramlethal Valentine's RATTLE blades lift their seals to transform in to long Red Katanas during her ANIMO ESTINGI "Soul Extinguisher" Instant Kill, but aside from the swords… Ramlethal's CLOTHING is something akin to an ORGANIC MOUTH… in previous Xrd appearances, Ramlethal's Mouth-Coat could transform in to a chain-saw like blade during her throw attacks, but it can also shapeshift her entire body in to an energy BOMB. While the Coat had a more organic appearance in Xrd, it was somewhat altered in Strive, and has something similar to cybernetic teeth now, though the technology behind the coat is a bit of a mystery… suffice to say most of Ramlethal's and Elphelt's clothing was "formed" in the Backyard. I wouldn't be surprised if Elphelt's outfits were semi-organic as well. ---Flament Nagel is described as a "Magical Foci Beast" in some descriptions… though it's closer to a Youkai or "Treasured Heirloom" Tsukumogami (Similar to Roger, Bridget's Teddie Bear) that somehow became sentient… obviously he's been around since the Crusades and even fought Slayer… but he was stuck in an Armory for a number of years at Frasco until A.B.A. found him and started calling him Paracelsus after her creator. He prefers to be treated as the Blood Axe that he is… though how he came to be is still a mystery. ---Izuna's TRUE FORM is that of a Kanzashi… while it is NOT a weapon, it is a hair ornament, though even if that's the case, Izuna has his own "ornamental sword" which he can brandish in the name of justice if needed.

This all being said, it is no small feat to say that Sol Badguy's OutRage Mark 2 was responsible for killing a Demigod like I-No. It utilized the Firesealed Sword as its core, but in addition it utilized the Flashing Fang jinki (Senga) which Sol used to create the Junkyard Dog Mk. 3 during Xrd's events. The Firesealed Sword is already famous enough for being the weapon Sol used to defeat Justice (among many other Gears he has killed with it)... but well... a weapon that can surpass Infinity and Crush Zero speaks for itself...

Well, there's still plenty of mystery behind the Jinki...

The Dominator (Ekitoku "Increasing Fervor") suggests it is a weapon that gets stronger with every use... like the ultimate Amplifier (and Jinki are ALREADY known to amplify Magic as part of their basic nature).

The Baikal... code-named after the Deepest Freshwater Lake in the world... should also speak for itself... but it is called "Kojouhaku" (White on the Lake) in Japanese... suggesting it has control over Mist (not just Water)... we've known Johnny's Engetsu sword can generate powerful draws in the form of "Mist Finer", but his master Unchou apparently wields a spear that can strike even FASTER that this... while I cannot say for certain if the Baikal is related to Master Unchou Hirufumi, only time will tell if we learn more history about Johnny's past.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R: Ex Mode overdrives.

I really like EX mode and there’s literally no content of them anywhere on this damn internet, so I took matters in my own hands.

Some notes under the cut:

Sol: He gets a lot Ky-er. Tyrant Rave alpha is still a follow-up to Fafnir (with a reverse input), Savage Fang returns because he didn’t have enough gunflame variations already, and he gains a sucker punch grab thingy. Tyrant Rave beta is now discount Ride the Lightining

Ky: He gets a lot Sol-er. The dust follow-up OD is exactly the same. Sacred Edge has a weird delay which is probably useful idk, it’s air version (not shown) goes steady. Ride The Lighting is now discount Tyrant Rave

May: She gets a lot of low-budget copies of Johnny’s moves. May Dynamic is from GG1 i think, and Mr Yamada can now come from both sides

Millia: She gets some stuff back from GG1. Winger now only goes upwards, the downfall must be inputed as follow-up. It can also go solo. Emerald rain is exactly the same it seems

Eddie: I can’t play eddie for dear life so i have no idea what happens to him. That Shadow-head OD has different versions for P K or S imputs in which the shadow does the rightful attack some times before the head one. H imput goes straight to the head. Executer goest back to it’s old multi-hit version and Dark Sentinel is pretty fucking awesome

Potenkim: He looks a lot stronger, actually. HPB can now only be used as a follow up to that dash grab thingy. Giganter’s mirror and the punch are now independent, and the mirror lasts longer

Chipp: literally every attack of his can be followed up with a forcebreak kick thingy.  Banki Messai now works as a grab and looks cooler. Dansei Roga is the same. The kunai throw actually eventually made it’s way to his normal movelist in Xrd, albeit tweked.

Faust: I didn’t bother to see how he changed tbh. Anyway stimulating fists are gone and you have a pogo-combo instead. That bomb force break follow-up is new aswell, if i’m not mistaken. He regains his old IK from GGX in this form, so i included it aswell

Axl:  He changed a lot. I have no idea how. That explosion thingy is the follow up to a heaven can wait-ish thingy, Sickle Storm ends in an Axl Bomber instead of a projectile, and that ‘YES!’ thingy sends the opponent flying, ground dust style.

Baiken: some of her counters can now be used outside of guard. Baku is really cool and i’m mad it’s gone in Xrd. Albeit there’s only P K and S follow up cards, there are follow follow up moves for H and D inputs aswell. The folding screen attack is actually her original Instant Kill from GG1! That 4 slashes OD is still the same

Anji: WHAT THE FUK IS AN ANJI!!??? The counter OD has a much more generous input window, and the hurricane thingy is done straight from the air. The other OD has 4 follow-ups for P K S and H, among which are his old air grab and both old overdrives.

Venom: his holding down charges are replaced with a force rbeak that increases a ‘ball level’ for one attack. Or something. Dark Angel has a vertical version now, and Red Rail is a ground move. Tactical arc is the same if i’m not mistaken.

Johnny: Most interestingly, Mist Finer is now a parry stance, and the coins don’t work for level raising anymore. That’s my name and Jackhound follow-up are kept the same, and Iaido’s secret can now be combo’ed after it seems.

Jam: I don’t care about Jam so there’s that. Super Puffball and Phoenix are much faster, and her 2H is now an overdrive for some reason. The pillar thingy seems to throw the opponent farther away.

Testament: I don’t even know how testament works normally let alone his EX mode. Back in AC, he used to only have the normal Nightmare Circular, the delayed version being exclusive to his EX mode, but since ACR, it entered his normal movelist, meaning his overdrives now are exactly the same in either version.

Dizzy: She gets a lot more aggressive it seems. The flashy thingy is Necro Install, it’s a discount DI that makes her damage and speed higher. Necro Unleashed is a parry with a weird-af input (34123646P), and Imperial Ray has a different animation, tho i don’t see much difference in utility... Gamma Ray is the same. Please notice Wings of Light (the full-screen laser thingy) is exclusive to her GOLD ver, not her EX ver.

Bridget: Although i love playing as Bridget i have not the slightest idea on how he works, so i can’t say much, but his Yoyo placements seem to work much different now. Me and my Killing machine no longer has a slow and fast version, and Maitence Disaster is now Maitence Pleasure or something, it means it works now. Loop de Loop remains.

Slayer: Dandy Step works much different now (it’s a follow up to other attacks instead of the other way arround), so his game chages completely. Royal Hunt looks cool but i’m not sure if it’s useful (haven’t checked it’s techabillity). Up and Close D and Spread your Wings were fused into V-Shaped Dandy which i really like for some reason. Dead on Time is the same

Zappa:  His summons work differently. Don’t ask me how they do. Centipedes remain the same and Raoul’s slash is replaced by a punch. That’s it

I-no: THIS IS NOT HER BOSS VERSION! BOSS VERSIONS ARE PLAYABLE AS GOLD VERSIONS, EX VERSIONS ARE LIKE A MID-TERM. Anyway, longing desperate is replaced by that weird kick. Ultimate Fortissimo remains because it’s the best overdrive in the game of course it remains. And of course, MEGALOMANIA (or Mega Romania as the game calls it). There’s three different versions (the P version won’t hit na enemy on the far of the screen, which is why i didn’t include it), and you can change versions by re-inputting the corresponding input before the attack starts, at the cost of 25 tension more. Also it burns your Burst gauge

Robo-Ky: No. That missile thingy actually sets something if it misses. He also gains a low-budged Ride the Lighting to complement his low-budged Aces High. Gen-KY actually works differently and can actually explode the enemy without damaging the player, but i have not the slightest idea how, i did it on accident once and couldn’t  ever repeat it.

A.B.A.: Basically, she’s now permanently in Moroha mode and loses health like a Chipp. That thingy that busted her whole life gauge replaces her IK, and i have no idea what use it has. The diuscount RTL works the same as the normal Moroha version.

Order-Sol: Basically he’s Sol from GG1 only without the Charge mechanic. Tyrant Rave works like it did back then and he now has a proper IK. Also have Gold Mode DI: Sakkai since i can’t input that for dear life (Gold mode follows-up automatically)

There are not EX Kliff nor EX Justice, I’m afraid, so don’t ask about them
