I haven't been able to stop thinking about Clay getting stuck in his own head and thinking he's just hallucinating his brothers and Viva when they come to save him. I could see him even cowering away from them when he is finally freed from his prison, because he's so, so convinced that if he tries to touch one of them, his hand will pass through them like a ghost and he'll be thrown back into the reality of still being trapped and dying all alone in that bottle again.
SORRY I HAD TO POST THIS WITH SOMETHIN ALONGSIDE IT SO HERE HAVE BITTERSWEET-
“♫ Just let me take you to a~ ♫”
“♫ Better place~ ♫”
With one, final, harmonized note, the Diamond containers are filled with one final, bright light before they shatter, leaving each brother freed of their cages. Including the one trapped inside for months, who slowly makes his way to the floor.
Clay is transparent, white and cold, his body drained of talent as he hits the ground. Quickly, he’s surrounded by his brothers, panicked and frantic, and Viva, who holds his face with wide, teary eyes.
“Mr. Clay! I did it! I found your brothers, we can bring you home!” She cries, squeezing his cold cheeks before slipping her hands to one of his paws. “Please! Wake up!”
“Please, Clay…” Floyd pleads, attached to his left side next to Bruce, teary eyed and trying desperately not to let them spill. “I haven’t even gotten to hear you say hello…”
“You know you’re stronger then this, Clay, we all know you are.” Bruce mutters, a quiet anguish on his face.
“I-I built the bunker, Clay! Remember? The doodles?” Branch admits in desperation, reaching for his brother’s side with tears of his own barely held back. “There’s a reading corner, just for you. Plenty of books…”
John Dory has his spot next to Branch, taking his brother’s face in his hands, brows furrowed and mouth wobbly. “Clay…Clay, I’m so sorry. I forced you to be someone you weren’t for so long…” He whispers, gently running a thumb across his brother’s fuzzy cheek. “Please… You have to wake up. I need to make this right. You’re my little brother…I love you…”
And yet, all they’re met with…is silence.
Soul crushing, heart breaking-
“Mm…when’d you get sappy…John Dory?”
“CLAY?!”
“MR. CLAY!”
“You’re okay…! HE’S OKAY!”
As the brothers rush for their missing link, as Viva holds tight to Clay’s empty paw, as Poppy stands next to her boyfriend with tears of her own and a smile on her face, Clay blearily blinks away sleep and exhaustion as he stares up at the blurry faces of his brothers, his Queen…
A hiccup escapes him, before shaky arms cover his eyes. He can’t hear the joyous, slightly worried sounds of his name. Reassurance that they’re here, that his family is here again, that he wont be alone anymore.
If this is another dream, then please…
Please don’t wake him up ever again.

Branch being the mouse in Bridget’s Cinderella story is adorable I love it so much
And Bridget and Poppy are both similar and different enough that it’s easy to see her and Branch getting along super well
Oho, fun little factoid about Poppy's route in Little Mouse: Creek gets shoved into Gristle's mouth as in canon (unlike in Between where I'm still deliberating as to whether that'd happen), and, with no Branch to tell her that Creek's dead, there's nothing stopping Poppy from going after him first!
She even gets to witness him pleading for his life! But surely, since he didn't actually get to go through with any betrayals and surely, since he was so clearly terrified he couldn't have possibly meant it, right? And now Poppy's got a buddy to help her find the others! But Chef notices that Creek disappeared... maybe she thinks Gristle ate him for real, maybe she suspects tiny footsteps in the walls...

ATTENTION TROLLS FANDOM!!
This is very important. Mostly to me but maybe you guys have been wondering this too idk but anyways:
How does troll reproduction work exactly?
Cuz I'm genuinely curious. I dont think anyone on the series production team has said anything and so far I've seen absolutely no one touch on this subject but as someone who's always had an interest in the habits of creatures (both fictional or otherwise), I kinda sorta maybe NEED to know this otherwise I'll never be able to sleep peacefully again
Full disclaimer that I'm specifically talking about the whole egg situation, I am NOT ASKING HOW THEY GET IT ON IF I WANTED THAT ANSWER I'D GO TO DEVIANT ART OR TWITTER OR WHATEVER LAWLESS PLATFORM GOD STEERS CLEAR OF. This discussion shall remain STRICTLY educational, thank you very much
But anywho. Let's dive in
So trolls come from eggs. This is basic knowledge. First instance of this phenomenon (as far as I know, I've only seen the movies) is from World Tour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egg pops out of Guy Diamond's hair, egg hatches and BOOM, (literal) baby. Now I understand that this whole sequence was probably just a gag and a way for DreamWorks to implement another (merchandisable) addition to the cast HOWEVER this sequence also raises a few questions
First off, as far as I know Guy Diamond has no partner (again: I haven't watched any of the spinoff shows). Either that or maybe the other troll was a sorta one-night-stand/no-longer-in-his-life kinda situation? Which is great either way cuz its shown he obviously cares for his son and we at Tumblr appreciate a loving single father no matter the circumstances, but if my former theory is correct than that would imply that trolls are capable of reproducing asexually. Like onions.
Now if that hypothesis is, as they call it, "cap" then that would mean that some sorta hanky panky has to go down before an egg comes into question. And if that's the case, does this mean that male trolls are traditionally the ones who carry the eggs?
But that can't be right, can it? Afterall, World Tour gave us yet ANOTHER egg scene later on in the movie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Cooper's flashback, we clearly see Queen Essence being the one carrying the eggs meanwhile King Quincy is eggless. Now, as far as i see it, this could be explained either one of four ways:
1) Quincy was the one who actually produced the eggs and Essence is merely holding them for her husband (since her hair seems more fitting to be a makeshift nest compared to Quincy's)
2) Female trolls are the ones who produce the eggs. Guy Diamond is just a trans icon
3) Troll reproduction differs from genre to genre
4) There is a... *sighs* a/b/o type of dynamic among troll kind where certain trolls are capable of giving birth/siring children depending on a secondary gender
In regards to theory #3, this could also explain why Guy Diamond seems to reproduce and hatch an egg in such a short amount of time (like 5 seconds I'm pretty sure) as opposed to Queen Essence/King Quincy who's eggs presumably went a while longer before actually hatching.
Actually, speaking off eggs, are trolls the only species in their world that reproduce that way?
Because now that Band Together has officially been released, we now know for certain that it's possible for different species to crossbreed. Biggest example? Resident DILF Bruce and his giant muppet wife
Tumblr media
(Credit to @captainunderkrupp )
When I saw these two... I swear...
And these two already have a shit ton of kids okay so like... either Brandi was the one giving birth or trollsona Daveed Digs was over here pumpin out eggs, which I mean-
Tumblr media
DO YOU SEE HOW BIG THESE THINGS ARE COMPARED TO BRANCH AND POPPY?? Believe me I am PRAYING that Bruce gave himself some serious maternity/paternity leave because my guy is honestly a trooper
But yeah any thoughts? :))

Branch: Troll Of The Wildglade
Chapter 4: Capture With Fear
In the Trolls Brotherhood AU, Warning that it's going to be violent, Branch's darkest fear about the fire. Dante Reyes survived from the fire.
Next day, at the Village's museum of historical, a female tour guide show Talons Bounty Troll Hunters' fallen leader during the fire, since 20 years ago in the forest.
Female Tour Guide: That's was Talons Bounty Troll Hunters' fallen leader was killed by the fires in the woods.
A White South African teenage girl with long light auburn hair, green eyes, pale skin complexion, some freckles on her cheeks and wearing a white collared, button up shirt, a light gray undershirt, a blue sweater with 3/4 sky blue sleeves, a dark pink above the knee skirt with lilac and bubblegum pink checkered capri leggings and lavender Mary Jane's flats and writing down on her journal, she don't want to hunt down trolls, but she want to have peace and quiet, and raised her hand up to ask her.
Female Tour Guide: Yes, Cady, what is it?
Cady Heron: I don't want to hunt the creatures, it's not safe for the trolls. The trolls' leader died after battle it's enemy, 20 years ago, before I was born, Dad is working with Gabby to protect the nature from harm. My grandfather dislike Talons Bounty Troll Hunters hunting trolls. The trolls are singing and dancing with the clan called Wildglade. A one of the trolls turned gray who hate singing and dancing. (The orphans are laughing and playing each other, by running in the museum's hall. The tour guide tell them to stop running.)
Children: Hi, Mrs. Gloria!

Children: We're sorry, we'll walked slowly okay.
Little girl: The trolls are singing and dancing in the forest every day.
Gloria: Yes, Abby, Pastor Chunch want to protect the wildlife from the hunt.
Abby Schmidt: My friend, Travis and I are playing our instrument, but the trolls like to sing and dance.
Travis: I don't like mean people hunting trolls.
Little Girl: I don't want all the trolls died after the attack.
Little Boy: Me too!
The children are playing their instruments and they dancing with each others just like the trolls.
Arthur Slugworth walked into the museum with a horse and a cart with it. William Afton dislike music, like the trolls, he say.
Arthur Slugworth: Alright, children but you no better to play all the instruments, and it's will be recyclable! (horse neighing) Now go to take all the toys or we will clapped all of you in jail.
The hunters took their instruments away from the children and they recycling the instruments and they laughed evilly, the children are crying and wailing, they want them to do chores.
Victoria Kord: So, Regina, nice suit, today. The training is starting now!
Meanwhile, at the training room for teen hunters will train to hunt down trolls in the forest. They got their suits on their hunt for trolls.
Regina George: Gretchen, Karen, how's did you too get here?
Black teenage boy: (whispered) I don't know!
Polynesian teenage girl: The trolls' home?
Agent Rimes walked into the room.
Agent Rimes: Alright, rookies, listen here, there are rapids creatures, go cross to the woods, jump over the logs and kill and grab all the trolls by bringing them to the prison by poison all the lands, we'll be success our goals. Where's Cady?
Regina George: She's writing her diary again at the museum.
Agent Rimes: Remember focus on your skills, and don't get hurt! Good luck rookies.
The teens put their masks on and we walk into the field with their spyglasses and they looked at the trolls hisses, she used her dart gun and shot it, they ran towards to kill them. They held the guns and they ran fast into their marches. A black teenage boy and a Polynesian teenage girl are get hurt with the red X on their armors.
Karen Smith: Whoa, look at this. Haha!
Black teenage boy: Aw come on!
Polynesian teenage girl: Daiman, I hate hunting trolls so much!
The teens looked up at the trolls, they held their shields and they got to the trees with lot of trolls jumped out and tackled two of them.
Regina George: OH SON OF THE BITCH! (Use toxic chemicals gas and threw it against the trolls, and the tree got knocked down. Dante Reyes walked into the room and clapped his hands with an evil smile.)
Dante Reyes: Tonight, we'll hunt down creatures with our weapons to poison them.
Regina George: Yes, my lord, it's my turn to strings! My turn to hunt! (Pushed in the pushing bag)
The hunters walked out of the room in the darkness, back to the forest, in her bunker, Poppy drew the picture of her, her sister, her mother and her father before her sister's disappearance and her mother's death, she put it back in the box. That night, the teens walked into the woods, with their loaded poisonous dart guns and the butterfly nets are ready, the brothers continued staring at the clear, night sky with peaceful in Branch's heart. They stopped staring at the stars, something caught his eye. He see the hunters in the flashback as baby crying and seeing his father's sacrifice during the attack. End of the flashback, beyond his home, in the trees across the fields and below a mountain. The hunters putting their masks on, then they walked into the woods.
Branch: That's my land, hunters in our homeland.
John Dory: We got to check it out and fast.
Branch: We're going to check it out. See if they might provide danger to our clan.
Floyd: We're be fine.
Spruce: I'm agree with you guys (they grabs their weapons onto their backs, they swung down the the tree they were located on and landed safely on the ground. The brothers swiftly took off.
The bounty troll hunters loaded poisonous dart guns are ready, Dante Reyes walked in the tent. The bounty troll hunters smiled at the rookie with her new suit.
Dante Reyes: Tonight, we hunt down trolls! (Talons Bounty Troll Hunters cheer for his master plan)
Branch, John Dory, Spruce and Floyd continued to ran though the trees and across the valley and valley without having to stop. In order to improve their speed, they sometimes ran in all fours, a trait that their kind uses should they ever want to escape their foes. Unlike the other trolls, the brothers can ran longer distances, has a high stamina for it and many survival skills that were earned throughout the years. Now they're finally paying off. Finally, he reached the edge of the forest until he stopped shortly when they saw something embedded on the dirt. The dogs smell them as they see trolls while they barking at the brothers. They ran across the dogs barking and they were seen them running.
John Dory: (gasped and whispered) Dogs?
Branch: (gasped and whispered) Still fresh,
Spruce: (whispered) Guys, looks the hunters bring the dogs, they barking and stalking at us.
One of the dog: Woof!
Floyd: Who are they?
John Dory: (whispered) Hunters! That's man is their new leader and they want to hunt us down. Since Daddy sacrifice himself to save us all, 20 years since Clay's disappearance along with Viva back, we were kids.
Floyd: (whispered) It's not too late for you to leave. Forgot about us. Just be careful.
Ignacio Carapax: Hmmm! Oof! Oh what the? (One of the dogs barking) I knew, they across all of y'all in the forest. I'm going to the boss about the good news.
Branch: I told you, We'll return to the village. (The brothers looked up at the hunters and they gasped, Dante Reyes say)
Dante Reyes: Suprise, trolls!
Branch: No! It can't be! Listen to me! We must fight to the hunters. Gather Alder want everyone you know and run! GO!
Bounty Troll Hunters #6: We got them now!
Bounty Troll Hunters #9: Ha! Got him! (Branch whipped at the hunters' face)
Branch: Oh, you think so, huh? (hidden smirk, he has reached his end. As he dashed ahead, the hunters gasped when Branch and Floyd suddenly jumped and climbed on narrow edges on the vertical wall. The brothers stretching their hairs and grabbed onto a small rocky ledge of the wall. Waving a wave to the hunters, they swung forward like a slingshot.
The brothers: Yeah!
John Dory: See y'all next fall!
Dante Reyes: Don't ever do this! Regina!
Branch landed upright and hurried off to the exit.
Branch: (laughing, running as fast as he could. He dashed around a corner and ran up the rocky path. But just as they thought they were home free, Regina darted on his right upper shoulder, a rope was suddenly around his waist, trapping his arms, and was pulled to the bottom of the cliff.)
John Dory, Spruce and Floyd: Branch! (Branch groan, Arthur Slugworth and his partners Gerald Prodnose and Felix Fickelgruber used their butterfly nets and captured them as they scream in horror.)
Branch: What just happened? (shook his head and noticed the rope around him. They looked up to where the rope led by Regina.)
Floyd: Who is she?
The brothers looked up at her, a spotlight shined on fully as Branch see poison on his upper shoulder and he shivering with fear.
Branch: AH! No! You're poisoned me!
Spruce: O O Oh, how's could you!
Arthur Slugworth put John Dory, Spruce and Floyd in the bag and tie it up.
John Dory: I It's is... (Arthur Slugworth evil laugh)
John Dory, Spruce and Floyd: NO, NO, NO, NO! D'OH!
Spruce: (mumbled) NO!
Dante Reyes: (evil smile, the hunters holding the rope.) Though you trolls got away, didn't you, trolls?
Branch: (gasped, in the vision, Hernan Reyes' evil laugh, Thorn fight against him. Baby Branch crying and wailing for his father's sacrifice during the attack and the fires. End of the vision, he shivering with his eyes.) Big mistake, ugly! (growled and charged at him. But then another rope to grab his right foot, snared his hair, pulled him back painfully. Ahh!
Branch struggled to escape, managing to pull his arm free, but unfortunately, the hunters threw one more rope which bounded his wrists together.
Branch: Let's us go! (panting, that's he lost his father to the hunters.)
Poppy arrived on the table and see the hunters, they looked at her.
Arthur Slugworth: What was that thing? It's looked like gray but it looking dark. How's it got up here?
Poppy jumped up to try tackled him, Regina used her net to captured her and then he put her in the bag. The hunters tried pulling Branch up, despite his struggles.
Poppy: (mumbled) Hey, watch it!
Dante Reyes: (whipped his horse, with the jeep, the horse neighing) To the village!
He and the hunters walked to jeep while dragging them and straight back to the village. At the Village's museum, Clay and Viva has to escape from prison. Clay is taller and slender, his hair became messy lime green hair and he wear a green one suit romper with a diamond. Viva is slightly taller, her hair is curly, with one lock of her hair resting down on the right side of her face and pink yellow sparkling makeup. She wears a white leotard with golden colored trim and a pink star with golden trim on the the chest. She has red leg warmers with pink lozenges on them.
Clay: (gasped and held his pictures of his mother Ivy, his father Thorn who sacrifice himself to save them, because of his disappearance along with Viva, his grandmother and his brothers.) Mom, Grandma, John Dory, Spruce, Floyd, Branch!
The call of his brothers' help, his mother asked him to come home. He regains his memories, reminiscing those of his brothers, family, friends and himself. He fears of forgetting everything and knowing that losing his brothers.
Clay: I...AM CLAY, SON OF THORN AND IVY AND THE HEIR OF GLADE CLAN! I AM THE MIDDLE BROTHERS OF JOHN DORY, SPRUCE, FLOYD AND BRANCH! I must to save them from the hunters' threats! (running out of the museum, fast as he can to save his brothers.) I'm coming brothers! Help is on the way! I have to go now! That's is my greatest fear. Losing my brothers. I have to save my brothers! He had a big amount of guilt as he blame himself for leaving the forest, since his father's sacrifice during the attack and the fires in the woods. He ran into the church, with a plan and Viva's help to save his brothers.
Can Clay regain his memories and reunite with his brothers on the next chapter.

original meme belongs to Blaze-On-Fire. I've learned some disappointing things about Tim Burtan. But my sister tells me it's still okay to like his movie since he's not really the creative mind behind them. So with that in mind, I give you my polyamorous retelling of The Corpse Bride with characters from the Dreamworks Trolls franchise (inspired by the Tangled/Corpse Bride crossover "Live For You" on AO3) starring... Hickory in the role of Victor Van Dort. Princess Poppy in the role of Victoria Everglot. Delta Dawn in the role of Nell (she's Hickorys' sister-in-law) Cybil in the role of Maudeline (until the third movie comes out, I'm casting her as Poppy's mother) King Peppy in the role of Finis. Dickory in the role of William (Hickorys' brother, Delta's husband) Branch in the of Emily (why is the title character so far down? this is not a well-designed meme) Creek in the role of Lord Barkus. DJ Suki in the role of Hildagard (she's Poppys' lady in waiting) King Gristle Senior in the role of Pastor Galswells. Biggie in the role of Mayhew (Don't worry, he's not going to die) Grandma Rosie Puff in the role of Grandfather Everglot (she's Poppys' ancestor in this story)   King Thrash in the role of Elder Gutknecht. He and the other Rock Trolls are psychopomps (death angels) who watch over Troll souls in Purgatory. Riff in the role of the Black Widow. Chaz in the role of the flirtatious Miss Plum. Barb in the role of the Maggot (I thought about casting her as Bonejangles, but she's more like the sassy Maggot)   Conductor Trollzart in the role of the General (I wanted to us the Country Troll who SPOILER: dies onscreen, but I couldn't find any picture of him) King Trollex in the role of Bonejangles (specializing in Horrorcore Techno) And Fuzzbert in the role of Emil.
The story is this... Princess Poppy is betrothed to Lord Creek. But she's in love with the handsome trans man Hickory Dock. They decide to elope, and while passing through the woods, they practice their wedding vows, accidently summoning Brance, a corpse who's still holding his last breath. He approaches his "beloveds" who explain that they're already an item. He tells them that he's "willing to share". He then sprits them away to Purgatory, where the dead spend their time before they're ready to move on. They're greeted by the Barb the psychopomp who shows them around, and Trollex who sings about the tragic Corpse Groom that was betrayed and murdered by his lover. The trio has a good time together, until Hickory remembers his family is still waiting for him. They go to Thrash, who gives them a haunting spell that sends them to the world of the living. They go (with Branch in disguise) to the home of Hickory's brother and in-laws. The next day, they sneak into the castle, where they overhear Creek blackmailing King Peppy for Poppys' hand. Poppy chooses to stay and help her father, while Branch and Hickory escape back to Purgatory. Poppy and Suki do some investigating and discover that Creek stole a royal family relic ~ a harp said to restore life to the freshly dead. (wink wink) Meanwhile, Branch is distraught, but Hickory comforts him with a romantic ballad. Right when they're ready to start again, Thrash reveals that the dead and the living are forbidden to marry. If they want to be a couple Hickory will have to go back to the world of the living and take his own life. Hickory agrees, and the whole dead community goes up to perform the wedding. Poppy sees the procession and joins them, thinking that her death will make her wedding to Creek null and void. But during the ceremony, Branch sees Poppy and Hickorys' families watching and can't go through with it. Poppy tries to tell him about the harp, but Creek interrupts. Branch recognizes his murderer, and a fight breaks out. Creek escapes but trips and impales himself on a thorn. And before he can use the harp on himself, he's dragged off to face judgement. Poppy and Hickory use the harp to restore Branch to life, and then destroy it. A new life is waiting for all three of them.

I got the entire Httyd book collection months ago, (if not at least a year or so) but I've finally begun to read the first book and I'm telling you the difference between Book!Hiccup and Movie!Hiccup is very interesting. The things Dreamworks decided to keep as well as the things they changed.
Like, it's not an unknown fact that Book!Hiccup is referred to as Hiccup the Useless, but I can't remember a single time Movie!Hiccup was ever referred to as useless. No, his thing is that he's a runt and an embarrassment instead. Not useless.
And while Movie!Hiccup never showed any interest in dragons before Toothless other than as a means to an end, Book!Hiccup has watched and observed them for years and spoke to them by the time he reached the age of ten!
The difference in appearance and age is not a secret, of course. As is the difference in dragons.
Both end up a master swordsman, but I'm not that far into the books yet to find out Book!Hiccup's history with swords. (Don't tell me either, I already know a lot of things about the books, I don't want to be spoiled about the rest.)
Book!Hiccup was also surrounded by family growing up, no matter how small. Stoick, Valhallarama, Old Wrinkly, cousin Snotlout and his father. (Even though the last two can hardly count as family during the boy's youth and I believe his mother is away a lot?)
Meanwhile, Movie!Hiccup's sole family member growing up was Stoick while he believed his mother dead. Throughout the entire movie franchise, Hiccup is also the only character to not name any family members beyond his mother from what I can recall. Certainly the only Dragon Rider while every other Rider has mentioned several throughout the series. Mothers, fathers, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents ...
At the same time, Movie!Hiccup had a second father in Gobber, who (if my memory is correct) was not that close to Book!Hiccup.
I've only reached chapter 6, but I'm quite enjoying it and the differences between these two is very intriguing. Makes me appreciate @wickedcriminal's Half-Brothers AU in a way I haven't done before.

Chapter One | Chapter Two | Chapter Three | Chapter Four | Chapter Five | Chapter Six | Chapter Seven
Tumblr media
Branch is off his game. Ever since that nightmare a few nights back he's been all out of sorts and his inability to get himself back on track is only making him increasingly upset. Floyd came by yesterday to ask him where he kept his extra pencils and Branch had to hold his tongue to keep from biting the poor troll's head off. He's been able to keep up appearances so far but he can feel himself unraveling and knows that it's only a matter of time before he snaps. Sleep hasn't come any easier either. Every night it's been something new and every night after he bolts awake with his heart thumping wildly in his chest the fear is chased away by a boiling anger. This is ridiculous. He is a grown troll in a happy relationship. He was in the middle of reconciling with his brothers and it was even going well, all things considered. Despite that, he was still falling apart at the seams. No matter what he did it didn't seem like he could keep it together for more than a few months at a time and he was tired of it.
He was supposed to be better now. It's been over a year since he got his colors back and while they might not be as bright as they were, not when he was a kid and not when they'd first returned, he was still a soft blue instead of a cold gray. He was happy. At least he was supposed to be. He knows that it's stupid to think that a few great months of wavering joy was going to erase years of loneliness and trauma but he can't understand why he's doing so poorly now of all times.
He has his brothers back. The same brothers he spent years of his life waiting for. The brothers he dug out rooms in his bunker for. That he handcrafted whole furniture sets for when he was just a kid in the pathetic hope that they'd be grateful and stay. They're here, they're staying in his bunker like he'd always dreamed about when he was just a trolling, and somehow he still finds himself filled to the brim with resentment sometimes. Some days he wakes up knowing that if he leaves his room he'll have to come face-to-face with his siblings and all he can feel is bitterness and anger. He'll find himself standing on the edge of a conversation, watching them laugh with each other like nothing was wrong, meanwhile, all he can think about is how they all came back but it wasn't for him. They never cared that he was alone, that they abandoned him and he had no one, they only cared that Floyd was in danger. The worst part is that he gets it. He's hurt that they never thought of him but he understands. Floyd has always been the one that connected them. Floyd brought them together and Branch could never hope to do that. He hates that it makes him angry. He hates himself for being mad at Floyd for being enough when he had clearly never meant anything to them.
Some days he can't even look at his brothers without wanting to tear them apart. He'll see a glimpse of their hair around the corner and he'll have to flee before he went off, demanding apologies he wasn't sure he was due. He'll be so infuriated that they left him. Pissed that the only one who ever came back was John Dory and it was only for a cursory glance at a long abandoned Troll Tree. Devastated and enraged that Floyd said he'd come back and never did.
He wishes he wasn't so angry. It sits in his chest like a ball of fire and pulses with a fury that he couldn't possibly ignore. It contrasts with the dread emptying out a pit in his stomach so starkly it feels like it might consume him.
Branch closes his eyes and lets himself breathe in the quiet of the morning, trying in vain to untangle the emotions coiled up inside of him. He's grateful that he's planned today out. He doesn't want any free time to lose himself to his inner turmoil and he definitely doesn't want to give anyone a chance to push him over the edge. He was looking forward to getting together with Poppy that afternoon. They hadn't seen each other for more than a few minutes since last week and he was sure that just a few hours with her would inevitably quiet the cacophony inside of him. He really needed a normal day not centered around his brothers. So, he carefully planned to get most of his errands and favors out of the way in one go.
He climbs out of bed and stretches, shaking out the stiffness still clinging to his limbs from his latest nightmare. It wasn't a particularly bad dream he doesn't think, he doesn't even remember it now, but it's left him tired and tense all the same. He goes through his morning routine as quickly as possible before making his way up the stairs in hopes of grabbing something for breakfast. He's nearly to the entrance of the kitchen when he freezes. The soft clinking of a spoon stirring inside of a cup reaches his ears and he assumes that Floyd is likely up early making tea again. Usually he doesn't mind when he and Floyd cross paths in the early mornings, more often than not he actually really enjoys the quiet company, but the idea of seeing Floyd right now makes him want to scream.
He continues his trek up the stairs with more caution than before and quickly passes right by the kitchen. He doesn't need to stop. He can just grab something to eat later. The growing pit in his stomach left no room for his appetite anyway.
___
By the time noon rolls around Branch is actually feeling pretty good about things. He's still caught in his simmering anger but he's spent the day being productive out in the sun and it's lifted his spirits enough that he feels almost normal again. He's just finished putting away a few more jars of an antibiotic sap he'd been out in the forest collecting and he still had plenty of time to make it to his meet-up with Poppy. Most of the other trolls still give him his space even though Poppy's been trying to integrate him into the day-to-day for the past few years so he's left blissfully to his own devices as he makes his way across the village. The sun is high in the sky, filtering through the trees and scattering the floor with patches of cool shadow, and Branch peacefully tilts his head up into the glow.
It's not long until he spots the bright pink of Poppy's pod and he's not ashamed to say that he picks up the pace to make it there quicker. He's across the village in record time, making swift work of the short climb up to Poppy's vibrant home. He barely manages to get his feet on the ground before he's bodily tackled by a pink and blue blur. Poppy's happy squeal rings in his ears and he's helpless to stop the bright smile from spreading across his face as his arms instinctively wrap around her shoulders. He swings her around with ease, burying his face into her soft hair and sharing a laugh with the light of his life. The hug ends too quickly for Branch's liking.
Poppy grabs him by the shoulders and holds him at arm's length, her smile still a beacon of sunshine on her face as she eagerly glances him up and down. "Ugh, it's been forever," She complains dramatically, face twisting into a playful pout that did nothing to dim the mirth in her eyes.
Branch snorts, grinning back at her without a second thought, and rolls his eyes, "We saw each other a few days ago." He's so happy to see her. How hard these last few days have been has just made the time he's gone without her feel even more like torture. Poppy was never one to let him stay inside his head, even before they'd become real friends she's always been so determined to help him get out of his shell. It's why he started falling for her long before they'd ventured to Bergen Town together. Her willpower, her sharp wit, her unwavering support for him. She never gave up on him, even when he tried to force her hand. The more she's learned about him the more caring she's become. She's gentle now when she tries to dig him out of his ruts and understanding when all he needs is some time to himself. He can't ever express to her how grateful he is for everything she's given him. He feels lighter now talking with her than he has in weeks.
"Yeah, for like fifteen minutes," She scoffs, "That's not nearly enough time, Branch!" Her eyes narrow, her playful expression taking on a note of something more serious when she more carefully looks him over. Her hands squeeze his shoulders reassuringly and he wants to melt into the touch. "How're things going over there?" She presses cautiously.
Branch shrugs, reaching up and wrapping a loose hand around her wrist, "They're going," He dismisses easily. He doesn't really want to think about it right now. He doesn't know how to tell her that he feels like a ghost in his own home. That he's hopeful and scared all at once over what he could have. Her eyes lock onto his and he knows she won't let this go. He sighs, allowing himself to sag into her touch, "Really, it's fine. I'm just caught up on some stuff."
Poppy visibly hesitates and Branch wishes he could know what was going on inside her mind. It'd be so much easier to navigate these conversations if he just knew what exactly Poppy wanted from him. "Okay," She settles on after a few moments, her thumbs rubbing comforting circles against his shoulders, "I'm sorry I've been so busy recently but if you need anything I'm here for you, okay?"
Branch smiles, expression painfully smitten, "I know." He assures, squeezing her wrist. "You're already doing a lot." Because she is. Her being here, supporting him, it's like she's lifted the weight that's been crushing him and she's given him a chance to breathe.
Though it takes his breath away watching her expression soften the way it does. He's noticed that she only ever looks like this with him. The happy crinkle around her eyes smooths out and her lips form this soft, loving smile and she just looks so overwhelmingly fond it never fails to plant a pocket of warmth beneath his ribs. "Okay," She nods, squeezing his shoulders again, "Thank you for letting me be here for you."
Branch shakes his head, "Thank you for wanting to be there for me." He shoots back. It's still such a foreign idea to him it catches him by surprise every time. She's always so happy to drop everything for him like he matters. When it comes to Poppy, he's starting to think he might.
"Always," Poppy promises. Promises like that are so easy for her but she's learned with time that they mean everything to him. She lets her arms drop to her sides as she rocks back on her heels, "So," She drawls, another wide smile spreading across her face, "I might have a surprise for you." She's already getting caught in her own excitement, arms starting to swing back and forth while she tries in vain to contain her joy.
"Oh?" He cocks an amused eyebrow as he watches her energy build. This was exactly what he needed after the week that he's had. He may not be ready to open that particular can of worms but Poppy released some of the pressure building up inside of him.
Poppy nods, reaching forward and grabbing his hand, "Yep! Just follow my lead, I have it all planned out," She sweeps her other arm in front of her as she drags him along. "I cleared my whole afternoon and everything! It'll just be you and me." She turns to look at him over her shoulder as she leads him expertly down from her pod. His heart is turning to a puddle in his chest and he feels safe in the bubble that Poppy's carefully crafted just for the two of them. She was so unbearably kind he didn't know what to do about it most of the time. She was terribly busy and most of the time that worked for them but either she had missed him or she'd seen that he needed some time away from his bunker, or possibly even both, and she'd planned something special out just for him. He was so incredibly lucky to have her.
He holds her hand tight and listens as she rambles, talking about her latest duties, how Viva was acclimating to Troll Village, and how her friends were doing. He's so overcome with adoration that he cuts her off before she can go into detail about Satin and Chenille's latest fashion project. "I love you," he says and her words stumble to a stop. She stops in her tracks and stares at him not with surprise but with that same fondness reserved just for him. They stand in the middle of Troll Village hand-in-hand and his weak heart flutters when she responds.
"I love you too," She chirps, bouncing on her toes and leaning forward to place a soft kiss on his cheek before she drags him off again. He loses himself in her voice, following merrily after her without so much as a glance around, but he doesn't have to wait long to figure out where they're going. He can already see their destination set up next to the trunk of a large tree and his heart simply melts at the sight. Things came more into focus as they got closer and he took in the pink and white checkered blanket smoothed out across the grass, a bright yellow picnic basket and a large pitcher of what looked like lemonade settled neatly on top. "I know today was probably busy for you since you've been holed up with your brothers so much recently! I figured a nice lunch would be a good idea." Poppy explains, watching him for his reaction when they come to a stop at the edge of the blanket.
"It sounds great," Branch agrees readily, basking in the glow of her smile as she absolutely lights up. She pumps a fist in the air, celebrating a surprise well done, and leaps over to the basket to start unpacking their meal. He follows at a much slower pace and settles himself down on the blanket across from her. He watches lovingly as she pulls out muffins and little sandwiches and even a side of chips and dip. He takes the glasses from her silently and pours their drinks. Poppy playfully swats at his hands, insisting that it was her job to get everything ready, but he only tisks and tells her that maybe she should have been faster then.
It's while he's sipping at his lemonade feeling more at peace than he has in quite a long while, since before he reunited with his brothers even, that their bubble is broken. "Poppy!" A shout startles him and he only barely manages to avoid spilling his drink all over himself. He whips his head around to see Viva running over at an impressive speed, a bright and giddy smile on her face. She barrels into her sister and Branch grabs Poppy's drink before they go tumbling to prevent another almost-mess.
"Viva," Poppy greets cheerfully, returning her sister's tight embrace, "Can this wait--?" She tries to ask but the blonde troll interrupts, likely too caught in whatever has her so excited to be paying too much attention.
"There is this fantast-amazing little smoothie place over by the grove," Viva bounces in place, visibly shaking in her delight, "It looks so good, like so good, and we have to go because I didn't want to go without you! Come on!" Viva reaches out and grabs Poppy's arm, pulling the Queen to her feet and dragging her away before either of them could get another word in. Viva looks back at him over her shoulder and waves excitedly, "Bye Branch! It was nice to see you!" And just like that he's sat all alone at a picnic for two. It's just like Viva to come rushing in only to disappear just as quickly. The whiplash she left in her wake was overshadowed this time by the sudden wave of bitterness that crashed into him. He'd lost himself so completely in the bliss that Poppy brought him that her sudden absence was absolutely crushing. Everything that he'd let slip away for the past half hour or so was back in a flash and for a moment it overwhelmed him.
He just sat there, one glass of lemonade raised in each hand, staring blankly in the direction that the royal trolls had disappeared. The bitterness turns to sorrow which quickly morphs into anger. It's always easier to be angry than it is to be sad and he knows he has a bad habit of masking his more vulnerable emotions with his rage but he doesn't know how to stop and now is no different. His eyes burn and he blinks away the tears that are too eager to form. With nothing left to do Branch cleans up. He pours the lemonade back into the pitcher and carefully packs away all the food that Poppy had so generously brought out here just for him. He can't help but be furious with Viva, angrier than he knows he should be, but he had been so relaxed for once and she had inadvertently ripped that away from him with a smile on her face. He moves the basket and the pitcher to the side and picks up the blanket with shaking hands, scowling down at the soft cloth while he meticulously folds it up and places it gently on top of the basket.
He had other things to do today. He had a long list of chores that he had been ready to get done. He can't even imagine doing them now. His entire day down the drain because of one little incident. He scoffs, rolling his eyes as he picks up the basket and the pitcher and starts the journey across the village back toward his bunker, his whole life was just a long series of little incidents, though, wasn't it? Failure after failure, mistake after mistake, let down after let down. He shouldn't have been surprised that his moment of happiness was fleeting. If anything, he should have expected it. He's given a wider birth than usual by the other trolls as he storms through the village and beneath all his bubbling rage he's grateful no one will get close enough for him to snap at them.
He knows his quick retreat probably wasn't the best idea. Poppy will get a word in sooner rather than later and she'll go rushing back to the picnic in an attempt to pick things back up where she'd left off, apology and a bubbly laugh on her tongue. Even though he wants nothing more than to finish his afternoon with her he doesn't think he'll make good company right now. His mood was already ruined and he doesn't think even Poppy could lift him out of this spiral. It's just the accumulation of too much crashing down on him at once.
He enters the bunker as quickly as he can, trying not to let his already cracked composure shatter when he has to wait for the elevator. He can feel everything building, bubbling up and up and up until it's moments from boiling over and he doesn't want to deal with this right now. He was supposed to have a good day. His blood feels like fire in his veins and his eyes are still burning and he wishes more than anything he knew how to release the constantly rising pressure but nothing ever feels like it's enough. The elevator comes to a stop on the bottom floor and Branch makes straight for his room. He needed to get away from anything and anyone that could possibly set him off before he did something he'd regret.
"Oh, hey, what's the rush?" JD's voice breaks through the storm. Branch turns his head to see John sitting in the cozy alcove where he keeps all of Poppy's invitations tucked neatly away behind the curtains. He's sat at the table there tinkering with something or other, probably for Rhonda. "Is that for the Pop Star?" John's eyes look down to the picnic supplies still grasped in Branch's hands. He wiggles his eyebrows playfully and suddenly Branch sees red.
"Don't," He seethes through gritted teeth, exhaling sharply in a futile attempt to calm himself down. The burning in his eyes gets worse and he furiously blinks away the tears but they're forming too fast now for it to do him any good. The angry shake in his arms from a grip far too tight shifts to a pathetic tremble and he's lucky he can keep hold of the basket clutched in his fist.
"Woah, hey," John Dory stands up. His face is twisted with concern and Branch feels his heart breaking because how long had he wanted that? How long had he been alone, taking care of himself, imagining what it'd be like for his big brother to come in and help him? How long had he held out hope that his brothers would come back and look at him like that? "What's going on? what happened?" John moves around the table and starts to come closer.
Branch takes a few hurried steps back, "Don't," he repeats but his voice cracks and he's losing his grip on the anger that's supposed to protect him. It's slipping quickly through his fingers and leaving only the sorrow and panic that thrummed beneath and he feels terrifyingly exposed. "Do not--" He sneers, "Leave me the hell alone." He tries to sound firm but he hears how his voice trembles. John Dory looks lost and Branch takes that opportunity to turn on his heel and hurry off to his room. He slams the door behind him. Poppy's picnic drops from clumsy fingers and he tries desperately to hold himself together.
Days of barely holding on and he's finally reached his breaking point. What does it matter? He'll just have to put himself back together again anyway.

Is Rise of the Guardians 2 possible? Yes!
Let's list all the facts supporting the possibility of another movie:
1. The director of the first movie is open to the idea of creating a sequel. "I'd love to be involved in something like that again, just because there are so many things I'd like to improve on from the first time because of inexperience or the circumstances that we didn't get to do.’’ (2020) The director? Peter Ramsey, the guy behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse!
Tumblr media
2. Speaking of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Dreamworks started to experiment with 2D and 3D. Their newest movies The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots the Last Wish are huge critical and box office successes.
The Bad Guys earned $250.5 million from the $69–80 million budget. Puss in Boots the Last Wish earned $263.6 million and still counting from the $90 million budget.
Tumblr media
3. When we're on the topic, Rise of the Guardians wasn't a flop but it didn't make as much money as Dreamworks anticipated. The movie cost $145 million to make and made $306.9 million at the box office. With the new art style being cheaper to make but not dropping in quality future films will make much more money. And that's how it should be. Not getting more expensive and looking like an early 2000s CGI video game, Disney!
Tumblr media
4. Dreamworks has no problem with making sequels even when there is a big gap between the last release. They announced Kung Fu Panda 4 for the 2024 release meanwhile Kung Fu Panda 3 came out in 2016. That's an 8-year wait while the original trilogy had about two 4-year gaps between installments. Between the original Puss in Boots and its sequel passed almost 12 years. Puss in Boots 2 also foreshadowed a potential sequel to the Shrek franchise for which the last movie was Shrek Forever After in 2010. The Croods came out in 2013, and its sequel The Croods: New Age came out in 2020. Again with huge positive critical and box office reception. $216 million from a $65 million budget. Dreamworks is the master of sequels!
Tumblr media
5. Furry bait! People at Dreamworks have a connection to the internet. They know people went wild over Mr. Wolf and Death. Bunnymund voiced by Hugh Jackman? Come on, people will go crazy!
Tumblr media
6. Great villain potential! Everybody is praising Death for how scary he is. People love tragic and complex villains like Ramses, Tai Lung, and Lord Shen. If Dreamworks leans into Pitch Black's backstory from the books they might create one of their best villains yet! I'm not going to spoil it.
Tumblr media
7. Jude Law, VA of Pitch Black, will be in the Star Wars Skeleton crew and Pan and Wendy. Whether or not those projects will be good in their own right people will know him from those roles and might want to watch an animated movie just because he's in it.
Tumblr media
8. Dreamworks wants to please its audience. Unlike so many creators who destroy franchises out of spite or try to ''fix'' them to their own liking, Dreamworks respects its audience, characters, and lore. I'm sure they know fans want more, but they only make a sequel if they know it will be great.
Tumblr media
There is only one huge problem. Alec Baldwin, the voice actor for Santa, killed someone. In October 2021 on the set of “Rust”, a Western being filmed, Baldwin pulled the trigger with a live round, killing the film's cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. I'm not going to get into detail. Find it on your own accord, there are plenty of people already cowering it better than I could.
Tumblr media
The solution is easy, just cast a new voice actor.
It looks to me that practically everything is in perfect configuration for the Rise of the Guardians 2.
It also looks like Dreamworks has a new strategy. Release an original movie and then a sequel to the franchise, another original, and another sequel.

Just found your Rest Stop AU and I’m OBSESSED
I’m so curious tho of what movie hiccup thinks of book hiccup when he gets to know him better. Also, what sorts of things do the dreamworld dragons crew do with book hiccup once he’s more settled in?
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Movie Hiccup and Book Hiccup are dragon-nerd buddies (Along with Fishlegs Ingerman)! Book Hiccup gets to infodump all about the kinds of dragons "back home" (and possibly also start working on the (in)complete book of Dragons) and Movie Hiccup gets to show him all the cool dragons they've got on and around Berk.
I feel like Book Hiccup would get a little bit starry-eyed at how great Movie Hiccup is at making things, and maybe he'd try apprenticing under him and Gobber for a day, to... rather disastrous results. Unfortunately, the skills involved in breaking and undoing dragon-traps do not translate to creating things of similar complexity. Thankfully nothing irreplaceable got destroyed, and all the fires got put out incredibly quickly, but "Rider the Red's" apprenticeship would not continue to the following day.
DreamWorks Hiccup, meanwhile, is just really fond of this kid and the way he cares so much about everyone from his dragon friends to people he's only just met to the dragons he hadn't met but who are trapped inside these new extra-vicious dragon traps.
They bond about being the sons of Fierce Viking Chiefs (Rider the Red calls his father Boundless the Hairy). He listens to the sparing amount of stories he tells about his home and the far more frequent Concerning Tidbits Rider lets slip when he's talking about the dragons he's used to. He notices that every time he talks about finding his way back, he always says "I have to" and never "I want to", unless it's in the context of seeing his two human friends again.
Well, one human friend.
("She probably wants to see me again too. I hope she wants to see me again. I know she didn't mean it, she was just shocked to see..." he absently started moving his hand to touch his Slavemark, but stopped as soon as he realized. Hopefully before Other-Hiccup noticed where his hand was going. "Well, she was just shocked. And I don't blame her! I'd be shocked too. And a little betrayed, to be honest. Like she didn't trust me not to turn my back on her if I knew. Sure, I didn't tell Fishlegs — my Fishlegs — either, but they're different people from different circumstances. And anyway, it was more of a half-turn really.")
(DW Hiccup noted that he never once said what this big friendship-destroying secret was, or what the "it" was that this Camicazi girl didn't mean.)
All this to say, Dreamworks Hiccup isn't particularly keen on finding a way to send Rider the Red back to whatever archipelago he came from.
Then, he gets kidnapped by Thuggory the Meathead, and suddenly things make a lot less sense.
At least now he knows why Rider always looks like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

i KNOW i said i'd draw putt putt branch but i cant control the vibe and the vibe rn is feral clay
he vaguely remembers floyd. vaguely. he knows floyd was...there. at some point when his mind was whole. but he cant see where he'd be. a lot of his past memories were pushed away to make room for survival instinct, so his memories mostly consist of good ones with (Sp)Bruce and the night he left, the argument with JD mostly
floyd's kinda be pushed to the back of his mind, so its like meeting someone new. Clay smells death on him. Decay. But he stands and talks like a living creature.
Floyd confuses Clay. He calls him Pink. He'll remember his name eventually.

Musing about Dreamworks
Tumblr media
I have recently rewatched a lot of old Dreamworks stuff and I realized something: The way a lot of Dreamworks stuff breaks with the hero'e's journey is actually a really good thing.
If you watch Dreamworks movies and compare it with Disney or even Pixar, there is the quite obvious difference that for the most part Dreamworks heroes and heroines are underdogs, while Disney heroes most of the times are not. It is also the reason I think that a lot of queer folks found themselves in a lot of the Dreamworks stuff early on. I for sure can say I did. It is super easy to read a queer subtext into quite a few Dreamworks movies.
Compared to Disney there is also the fact that Dreamworks seemingly never felt the need to use their protagonist's marginalizations, when there, as a way to advertise. It was simply something that was there...
But there is this other big thing.
Disney movies for the most part very clearly follow the Hero's Journey, but in a way that they are so very married to the Status Quo. You know, often in the Hero's the Hero returns home - which Disney usually takes as "the hero returns to the Status Quo". The hero changes, but the world around them doesn't. Because Disney usually says: "The world as it is, is alright."
I could probably go into the depth of the MCU here, but to stay with animation, let's talk about Disney's one real underdog story: Aladdin. The central conflict arises in the first place because Aladdin is of a much lower status and hence cannot court Jasmin. This is basically what leads to the inciting incident and everything. So, the solution in the end is? Well, Aladdin gets a free pass. But in general there is nothing much changed about the class structure of the world.
Meanwhile almost all Dreamworks movies involve the world around the heroes changing. In Shrek the world has to learn to accept ogers. In Kung Fu Panda more than anything it is Shifu who needs to learn the lesson. In Megamind the way that the populus of Metro City treated Megamind was the issue. And most notably probably How to Train Your Dragon, where the vikings needed to learn to work with the dragons.
One can almost make the argument that Dreamworks movies in general reject the status quo. In fact, heroes that want to re-establish the status quo will need to learn that it actually was not a good thing. Be it the animals in Madagascar returning to the zoo and finding it was not at all what they remembered, or be it Puss in The Last Wish learning that his status quo (him having the many lives) was not good for him.
I can very much say that starting in my teens, when I became more interested in animation, I always liked Dreamworks Animation better than the other animation studios in the west. And yes, I quite early learned about the queer readings of Shrek for example. And I was able to well realize that Dreamworks was better in a lot of their messages than Disney was (and clearer).
But I actually never pinned down, why Dreamworks felt so much more progressive until I started to think about this recently. That Dreamworks actually allows for the world around the heroes to change and in some cases address systematic oppression.
And don't get me wrong. Like from a production side and behind the scenes, there is still a lot wrong with Dreamworks as well. They absolutely tried their best together with Disney to keep down the pay for animators and stuff. There was definitely also some cases of discrimination and bad conduct. But just from the side of what the movies themselves say? Yeah, no, I see myself a lot more in the Dreamworks stuff than anything Disney ever made.

I forgot to post this way earlier but i had the most fucked up dream ever
okay so my dream started with me and my friend @ringdabel (in an irl setting??? I mean idek what ring looks like so my mind imagined ring as some dude-) and I think we are supposedly childhood friends because of how well we get along and basically- we kill people. for a living, I think- and we just let three poor prisoners do the job to clean up our messes and try to solve the crimes for us that WE did 💀💀💀
(I stabbed like two women with a bunch of short spear-like sticks I found while ring just MASSACRED the guy. geez. 💀💀 we almost got killed by one of the woman but ring used herself as a distraction while I just come up the woman and killed it :P)
anyways, one part of my dream was that we were riding on some railroad track with our broke ass bicycles during when it was turning morning (after killing the two women and just some guy), and we got near to some VERY broken bridge and just basically flew the whole time while using some ramdom floating parts that were Just There For Some Reason as leverage so we don't fall into the endless void below us (I'm not even sure if it was just VERY clear water that's reflecting the sky above us).
Oh and also during it me and ring were sharing and talking about our interests and stuff like we don't give a fuck that we have a 1 in a 100 chance of dying (but thankfully we didn't) 💀👍 (IT FELT LIKE WE WERE IN A DREAMWORKS MOVIE FOR SOME REASON)
we got to some city that seems to be based on the Netherlands(?) I think? and I got there first by slamming face first into some poor guy and ALMOST fell off the edge of the platform we were on but thankfully that guy pulled me back up before I literally fall off completely- meanwhile ring just went through the Same thing as me after and was completely fine like she didn't just almost get her body thrown off the ledge.
and when we got closer to each other and got our bikes ahain- we just held hands and laughed as we flew off the ledge as i used a grappling hook that I had in my bag to fly the both of to who-knows-where by using the electrical wires in the air as leverage
however I didn't get to remember much because my dream ended with me saying like the grappling hook ain't working anymore after some time
also the first thing I thought of when I woke up was Cloudy If There Were A Chance Of Meatballs and I think that was very random or just that one movie I've never ever ever saw in my life

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
Tumblr media
So I believe I've already mentioned the reoccuring trend with Dreamworks franchises where the second movie of any given franchise of theirs is usually on par with quality of the first movie or even better, and I would say that certainly rings true for good ol Madagascar 2 here. In that it's on par with the first movie, though I'm not sure I'd call it better... Let's get into it.
Tumblr media
We pick up with our squad of lovable animals leaving Madagascar, only to crash land in the African Savannah. There, Alex reunites with his parents, Marty finds a whole flock of zebras just like him, and Melman and Gloria start to realize they have feelings for each other. Meanwhile we have the Penguins trying to fix up their plane and King Julian being, well King Julian. There are a lot of subplots floating around here, but I think they're all pretty engaging! Alex is clearly the focus this time around, while the first movie focused more on Marty, and the arc Alex goes through here is actually really engaging (and wow, another Dreamworks protagonist with some daddy issues, another trend we really get in this era of Dreamworks imo)
Tumblr media
All of our favorites from last time around are back and just as funny as they were in the first movie. There aren't too many new characters, though the ones who are here are pretty fun, such as Alex's parents. Unlike the last movie, this one actually has a genuine antagonist in Makunga, and well, he's just Scar. Like, there's a lot of elements from this movie lifted from Lion King and Makunga is really just a lamer version of Scar. He's ok. Nowhere near as based as our other standout "antagonist" here, the crazy old lady from the first movie.
Tumblr media
The comedy is once again exceptionally on point. Lots of fast-paced physical humor mixed with whitty jokes and humor that comes naturally out of the characters strong personalities and how they interact with each other. I would say that the emotions ring a little stronger in this movie than the first one actually, with the heavy focus on Alex reconnecting with his family and on Gloria and Melman's surprisingly well done romance. Marty has the weakest arc out of our main four, but we still get some decent moments of friendship between him and Alex, which is a nice way to harken back to the first movie.
Tumblr media
The animation here is also very smooth, again focused on that fast-paced brand of humor this series is known for, with a solid score that works to carry both the emotions and comedy through very nicely. Dreamworks has really hit their stride in this era of their existance, and this movie, despite its status as a sequel, is a pretty good testament to that.
So yeah, Escape 2 Africa is pretty great! I had a blast watching it again after all these years, and I really do enjoy watching this zany band of characters and their wacky adventures. Granted, I've never seen the third installment of this franchise, so I guess we'll have to wait and see if it maintains that level of quality moving forward. But as for this one, it's well worth watching.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Verdict: Moto Moto is comin' for you
