#I'm from a seaside town that has become popular with tourists who come for the beach and the mediterranean climate #and the typical whitewashed walls of mediterranean coastal towns #in just a few years the average rent has gone up so much that now the average rent id #*is over 1000€ per month #one thousand! #that's a whole salary! #in the past 2 years they've been building a new neighbourhood. they've destroyed the vinyeards to make a new neighbourhood that will make #the town 1/3 bigger than it is. that's a lot. but all those houses are luxury houses with private swimming pools for rich foreigners (we #already have 2 private British schools high schools and college(in the british sense)/baccalaureate where their kids go and never have to #interact with locals. I teach some of those kids and they're very prejudiced against locals and very bigoted against the catalan language #(which ofc they never bother to learn) #there's a law in catalonia that says that for every certain amount of houses you build you are obligated to build a certain percentage of #affordable housing. so in this new neighborhood they built the bare minumum affordable housing which is still too expensive for us #and since there's so few of them everyone is competing to get them. the city hall and the bank have had to make an official competition for #them but you only classify if the renr would not be more than 1/3rd of your salary which is impossible. my cousins who are in their mid 30s #and have been working a good qualified job for 15 years (and their partners too) are considered too poor to be considered for the #affordable housing #everyone is having to move out to other cities away from their friends and family and current jobs. the only jobs left here soon will be #mostly directed at tourists #and the only way to continue living here if you're a normal person and not rich is if you're an only child who one day might inherit the #parents' house #but we look around at what's happening in nearby cities and we see the next step which will be airbnb taking the houses that are left #in many places (I've posted about thia before) there aren't any flats for rent or sell anymore that isn't an airbnb #I'm still lucky in my town when compared to other places like Barcelona which are already full of the airbnb plague #actualitat #airbnb #tourism #touristic massification #gentrification

Don’t be a Dick

Ok, just imagine this.

You bought James along to a family party, nothing inparticular just some family members who don’t come round often come around, and you have a get together.

James is still struggling with his drinking, and he gets drunk, but not enough to not remember it in the morning. He starts acting really cocky and acting like an actual dick.

You pull him away into somewhere quieter, maybe an empty bedroom or in the garden, trying to talk with him calmly.

“C’mon sweetheart, S’boring out here.” He tries feeling you up, pulling you into him by his hips; normal for him when he’s drunk, he gets all lovey-dovey. But, you’re sick of being calm and speaking softly.

“James Hetfield get the fuck off.” you say firmly, grabbing his wrists and digging your nails in. He looked down at you in confusion, tilting his head. “Sit down,”

“Baby-”

“Sit.” He sits on the small brick wall, looking up at you, a small amount of annoyance in his eyes, but mostly confusion in his glazed-over eyes.

“I don’t know why you’re acting like this, James, but you’re going to stop right now.”

“Like what? I-”

“Like a dick, most of my family are here, and you’re making the shittest first impression for my cousins.”

“M’not acting like a dick.”

“James, you were fucking showing off-” He stands up and scoffs, acting like a spoilt child.

“What, I can’t tell people-”

“James-”

“About-” You push him back to where he was and slap his cheek lightly, getting his attention.

“You do not speak to my family like that, or talk about how much money you make, and you definitely do not speak to me like that. We’re in a relationship, you don’t treat me like that.” You confirmed, eyes narrowed and your finger still pointed at him. He looked shocked, surprised you had spoken to him like that. Such firmness. It sobered him up a little.

He nodded. “Yes ma’am.”

“Are you going to act like a dick when we get back in there?”

“No.”

“Good.” You readjusted your bag on your shoulder and straightened your back, going to walk back inside.

He called your name softly, standing up. “I’m sorry, sweetness. I don’t know why i acted like that.” he apologised, looking at the ground.

“I don’t mind when you’re showing me off, just don’t act like that again, please.” You turned around and walked closer to him, letting him wrap his arms around you in a bear hug. “M’sorry, baby. Won’t do it again.” he slurred slightly, kissing the crown of your head.

Eventually, you two go back in, he apologises to the members of your family he acted like a dick to, and thankfully, they took it quite well and accepted his drunk apology, seeing the sincerity in his glossy eyes.

… And because one-third of your family watched the scene through the window. Hearing and seeing you putting him in his place.

I need a bear hug from James.

Got Mourynn's first fullbody ref done! (I mean first as in chronologically). Not much to say here, just getting some early year fullbody refs done so I can have them to start on some scenes and lore stuff (just gotta finish her Orchid outfit next since that's her main Sapling outfit before she makes her own custom one). My 10-year-old computer died, my new one finally arrived, and you'd best believe the first thing I did is install TS2. I still need to get my old files off my old hard drive but I'm finally biting the bullet and installing the Ultimate Collection rather than trying to reinstall from disks on Windows 11 and ... I wanted to weep lmao. Everything loads so FAST it almost scares me. I thought I was used to the game loading fast when I took out all my CC, but that's NOTHING compared to this. Fully optimised TS2 on a modern computer is frightening

It's also a good opportunity to start my DL folder from scratch with a better organisational system and being stricter about what I know I will/won't use. Challenging myself to CC-free builds has pushed me even further into a MM-game and now I'm embracing it. Like, I'm flirting with the idea of not having reflective pond water? Just changing the colour, but keeping the slab-o-blue vibe? Who am I? Beach lots would look ugly as hell but maybe I can make it work.

Anyway, a very exciting new development in my Sims career :)

I've had a resurgence of listening to First Aid Kit recently so I decided to pair up a bunch of their songs and lyrics to traffic characters and ships. I'm surprised they’re not more popular in fandom spaces since they’re pretty similar genre-wise to both Crane Wives and the Oh Hellos, so consider this is my community pitch (+ commentary cuz i wanna)

Fleeting one - BigB

"My love is a fleeting one / My man could be anyone / And our love is a setting sun / My life is fleeting one / My work is just a web I've spun / Oh, my life is a setting sun / Baffled by the lives we were lent / We met the end too soon / I was honest when I told you / We're as cryptic as the moon"

BigB has a bit of a history with wavy loyalties. The secret soulmates with Grian, betraying Cleo, and most recently tricking Skizz (I know that was resolved but a pattern is a pattern my man). And well, not that I have any clue what the man's up with all the cryptic gaslighting but I feel like that applies as well.

The lyrics outside the chorus seem to be about a couple falling out of love, but I like to apply it to him and Cleo, which still fits fairly well. Angst galore ofc.

Wolf - Pearl

"When I run through the deep dark forest long after this begun / Where the sun would set, the trees were dead, and the rivers were none / And I hope for a trace to lead me back home from this place / But there was no sound there was only me and my disgrace"

Scratch this being the most Pearl-like FAK song, this is the most Pearl song ever. It's basically what started this whole project. All the lyrics and all the vibes just screams DL Pearl. The song is also a bop, one of my personal favs, if I were to recommend just one of these to listen to then this is a strong contender.

Josefin - Martyn

"You go home with feet bare in the snow / You raise up your head to the dead / You seek of such magical things / And nobody knows where you've been"

This smells of watcher lore guys. Don’t have much more commentary than that, it’s just watcher lore straight up.

King of the World - Lizzie

"I keep running around / Trying to find the ground / But my head is in the stars / And my feet are in the sky / Well I'm nobody's baby / I'm everybody's girl / I'm the queen of nothing / I'm the king of the world"

The lyrics is giving Last Life Lizzie, but it’s also one of the more whimsical-sounding songs on the list which feels very Lizzie in general.

I'll admit the rest of the lyrics isn’t particularly easy to tie into the life series since there’s a bunch of specific modern references like going to the airport and traveling through states, but I love the song way too much not to include it. Might be the personal favourite.

Rebel heart - Desert duo

"You told me once I have a rebel heart / I don't know if that's true / But I believe you saw something in me that lives inside you too / Now I all I hear is the wind / There’s a storm coming through / Did I misplace or forsake my love now that I gave it to you?"

Picking just one lyric section from this song was difficult. Every single word, top to bottom, fits Scarian like a glove. It also slams in a "But I know you truly saw me / Even if just for a while" which just MMMM. Makes me wanna bite someone.

I Found a Way - Treebark

"We play the game with skillful hands / And so I asked for your demands / "Give me your love, give me your gun" / And you traced us back to where we begun"

Tbh this song could apply to a lot of traffic dynamics but it had a lot of loyalty themes which is why I put it at Treebark specifically. That being said: man. It works so well. Specifically Martyn POV. The gun in the lyric above would ofc be the beheading, plus the song later mentions the protagonist having a lot of guilt and being prone to running. It's got C!Martyn all over it.

My Silver Lining - Skizz

"I try not to hold on to what is gone / I try to do right what is wrong / I try to keep on keeping on / Yeah I just keep on keeping on / I hear a voice calling / Calling out for me / These shackles I've made in an attempt to be free / Be it for reason, be it for love / I won't take the easy road"

This is another one where it just is Skizz. He’s probably been the most consistantly loyal and good-natured person in the series, doing anything and everything for his team. I feel this especially with how he was in Limited Life, being determined to spread some light into the world despite the game they found themselves in. When making this list I found that most of these songs could fit multiple dynamics/characters, but this is his song, full stop.

Stay Gold - Flower Husbands

Another one where I just want to quote the whole song. The song is all about grieving time periods and memories you can’t get back, to which I'm thinking late-game 3rd life, post-3rd life divorce or s1 empires characters having weird nostalgia. I go feral for all of it.

Endeavor from BNHA is a prime example of how fandom trying to shield characters from (rightful) hate will only generate more hate toward the said characters.

Because I binge-watched the show before stepping foot in the fandom and even though I began this show hating Endeavor, he was actually starting to grow on me since his plot-line was one of the most interesting parts of the show and at certain points I even thought his “awkward dad” moments were kinda endearing? Then I looked around and saw an army of people who are so damn eager to swiftly forgive Endeavor for everything wrong he has ever done and shield him from any type of criticism, which includes shifting all the blame to his own wife & children and suddenly what little affection I had for this character is gone and now I’m back to hating him again.

Like you do realize that this is a grown middle aged man who has been emotionally and physically abusing his wife (who’s really more of a stay-at-home surrogate) and children for 25 years straight and has only turned a new leaf in-universe for only half a year max? It doesn’t matter how much you like his character, LET PEOPLE GO OFF ON HIM IF THEY WANT TO!!! You trying so hard to victimize him or to victim-blame his family for all his abuse will just make people hate him even more.
