While king 4 is in process, I might as well post some of the other monsters created for Six Kings that we've shown thus far. Starting off with the first monster ever created, Esotodus, The Red barbel Wyvern!

Last month was kinda a hard one in terms of gaming, two games (One I grew up with and one I’ve just got interested in) are sunsetting (SoD and X Dive)
At least one is saved thanks to an unexpected Offline version (Which I plan on picking up eventually), sadly certain content won’t be in it.
But hey, we still have the best of both worlds in MHST2: You can ride Dragons and attack stuff in Rise collaboration outfits
Tumblr media
And here’s my crazy ass rider-Sona and her Velkana, Velka. Sorry for crappy picture quality but there will be more screenshots.
Watch out Deep Log, cause here we come!

FINALLYYY FIRST CELESTIAL IVE BEEN CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO SHOW THIS-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And a mix of various sketches and drafts!!!
Psst down here v
Since the horrific murder of a nobleman has put many people in the kingdom’s walls off the idea of letting dragons in their midst for the time being, Sundrop’s continued employ under the king as a personal jester and informant has many under the impression that the dragon himself may have had something to do with it, and that his influence is corrupting the monarch in question.
Sundrop, however, thinks the people can believe whatever they want.
While his position gives him plenty of wiggle room to lavish himself with as much luxury as he desires, truthfully he’d much rather be outside the kingdom walls than in them. No, his heart lies with the wilds of Hyde’s Crossing’s ancient forests. His hoard isn’t even as extensive as it should be, consisting of a few plushies, puzzles, and children’s toys here and there, it’s oddly… empty?
So as much as he… appreciates the fluidity, he spends most of his time trying to keep his distance from Farqur Kingdom as often as possible. Before he has to return.
When he isn’t on his perch at the king’s beck and call, he’s running into random adventurers and the odd monster hunter left and right as he continues to peruse the wilds and stir up mischief as per usual. Most of them have been called to action as of late due to the influx of shades razing settlements to the ground when they’ve been left unchecked for far too long, rising to the challenge in the hopes of scoring money to keep themselves afloat.
There have been a few stinkers regarding interactions here and there, but making new friends is still endlessly fulfilling and entertaining on the occasion that they’ll let him get close enough to actually mingle with them proper. He’s content to share stories of his findings and across the land, landmarks, places of interest, the best places to sun oneself and the loveliest fishing spots!!! This boy loves to know people and be known!!!
He never sticks around long enough to say goodbye however. Always leaves in Farqur’s general direction in a big hurry at odd beats in the conversation. Odd fellow. And he never actually clocked where his companion was from, so the chances of them meeting again are slim…
He seems very flighty for someone so pleasant…

I think the tastiest Monster Hunter Rise monster would be the Jyrodotus.
Tumblr media
Look at that belly. Butterfly the back meat, bake over sticky rice like a casserole and serve it with eel sauce. Clay bake the abdomen, put it on fish tacos with some cabbage and lime. Chop the tail into patties for sandwiches, slap em on a bagel, etc. Those big thighs are gonna be dense, so you cube the meat and use em for gumbo. Grind the head and kama into pate for Bahn Mi.

I'm sorry, I had to take a break from the game to write this little act 1 ficlet because I'm obsessed and wanted to try out this POV for a bit. Sorry/not sorry.
Build this ship to wreck pg-13, 900-ish words
*** It’s so simple, seducing her. Almost boring in all its pettiness. A little flattery here, a carefully worded promise there - their lives are dark and dreary and full of worms and Elnys Tavren is not even half as immune to vain delights as she’d like to pretend she is.  “You don’t have me yet,” she reminds him and all the freckles and scars of her skin seem visible in the moonlight at that moment. The darkness rising from the earth nearly disguises her but not to him. Never to him, he doesn’t miss a beat and that’s why he’ll win in the end.
There’s something wild about the way she moves. Something raw and unrefined that makes him think not of the endless line of perfect, willing bodies he’s lured and baited over the centuries, but of a before that he no longer knows ever truly existed outside of his imagination. Hundreds of years of make-believe take their toll, he assumes. Perhaps that’s why he - apart from the fact that she’s the least powerful fighter of the group - had chosen to bite her, not so long ago. Glaringly obvious reasons aside, she’s also someone the living man he used to be might have desired, once, before he made a deal with the devil and lost all traces of himself to cruelty and death. Cazador, at least, wouldn’t enjoy her, of this he’s absolutely certain. Look what the pets dragged in. He’d feed, soften the worst of his bottomless hunger and throw away her corpse; the notion rattles dangerously in Astarion’s chest for a fraction of a second. No.
The chasm of his pasts thunders and rages, but he can’t give in to it, can’t twist up this chance at turning the tables. Nothing matters but that freedom, the sheer might of it. Does it?  Mere hours ago Elnys had allowed him to deal with the filthy Gur monster hunter the way he saw fit and Astarion had cut the man down - sloppily, without much glee, but instead a sinking sensation at the pit of his stomach. Disappointment, surely, at the lack of grandeur. Surprise that the dreadfully dull woman holding the reins had loosened them like that when, normally, she’ll jump in between an arrow and a bystander for no good reason. On the way back to camp he had meant to ask her why, meant to prod further into the shades of what his power over her could be wielded from - lust, loyalty, naivety - but the words had got caught up in between their companions, then in a camp full of celebration and revolting wine. There’s so much to consider, wound tight around others like this. Obstacles, idiocies, downright doubts, but Astarion is nothing if not resourceful so here they are now. He tells her he’s been wanting to have her since he first saw it. It’s cheap, hells is it ever, but what is seduction other than a mutually signed pact to play certain parts? An animal and its prey. The consummate lover and their chosen one. There’s a glint in her eyes as he steps closer, a flicker of hesitation perhaps. He changes his tone, tilts his head, adjusts to her unspoken demands and just like that, it’s gone again. It’s so simple, seducing her.  And hells, it would be boring if it wasn’t for her rough edges, the unpolished lust and the memory of nights in camp, listening to her spin tales from the sordid places she grew up in, her glee after a successful battle, her sharp insights and filthy mouth. All those details of her, they fill up every empty space between them, flatten out the hollows.
She tastes of cheap wine and smoky fish and her hands get lost in his hair, twisting themselves around his curls as he kisses her; he gets lost in his own well-rehearsed theatrics, then in her blood as she rolls her neck and allows him. No fear, no sense of obligation and he’ll remember this for at least a century, he thinks, the way her fingers trace the wretched scars along his back as he drinks her, the way her breath catches and her lips are on his, licking her own life from them. Afterwards, she’s flat on her back beside him on the ground like they’re some lost wood elves frolicking about; he plays along, thinking this woman's surely predictable enough to appreciate that sort of romantic delusion. She’s glancing at him with that particular gaze she has sometimes, letting it graze over his face. It makes her seem puzzled and determined at the same time, as though she’s measuring them quietly, holding them up against a scale of her own making.
There’s that rattle again, the sound of bones in him as he realises he doesn’t want to know what she makes of this, let alone of him. Nothing to see in here, he thinks, pushing himself up on one elbow to meet her gaze. Nothing, nothing, nothing. “Are you alright?” “Am I… what?” Elnys shrugs; the corners of her mouth twitch. “Forget it,” she says, but he won’t. After Cazador, he doesn’t forget a single thing. “Darling, of course I am, as you so eloquently put it, alright,” he retorts instead, stifling a scoff with a smile and her possible further questions with a thumb rubbing over her nipple.  She growls, low in her throat, and pulls him down over her.
“’s not a strange question, you know, just common courtesy,” she mumbles later still, arms curled around herself, a few fingers vaguely brushing his arm. He doesn’t care for it, or wouldn’t under any other circumstances, but the sun will be up soon and he can’t find it in himself to spoil the wonder of seeing it by moving anywhere. Elnys’s crimson-dyed hair is spread out over the grass, over the place where his heart once could beat and Astarion lies there watching the stars fade into a bright sky as she begins to snore, her breaths tickling his shoulder. It’s so simple, seducing her.

Comprehensive review of various video game fishing mechanics
Sea of Thieves
Tumblr media
Takes too long to get fish, and too much brain power. You’re telling me I need to use my keyboard and my mouse to catch these fish? A good fishing system should let you scroll Tumblr or eat peanuts with your free hand. Cooking the fish afterwards is cool though. I like how the only way to tell something is cooked in this game is by looking at it and thinking “hmm, would I eat this in real life?” 5/10
Stardew Valley
Tumblr media
Harder fish require more focus, easier fish aren’t so difficult if you just want to chill out, and the risk versus reward of going for a treasure chest is always satisfying.Pretty nice fishing mechanic in my opinion, and you will often need specific fish for fulfilling quests so there is merit to doing it. Can be frustrating when that bastard suddenly shoots to the top of the bar after spending like 20 seconds at the bottom and tricking you into letting your guard down. 7/10
Monster Hunter Rise
Tumblr media
There is one useful fish in this game and it’s the sushifish. Everything else is useless, and the spots where you can fish are very limited. There is also for some reason only one place for players to stand, so if multiple people are using the same fishing spot you look like the byproduct of a freak teleportation accident. “THERE’S ALWAYS TIME FOR FISHING.“ 2/10
Minecraft
Tumblr media
Fishing in Minecraft is very easy and straightforward. Wait for the thingy to sploosh and then right click. And Minecraft achieves something that a lot of games struggle with, which is making the fishing mechanic actually quite useful. It’s a handy way of getting some enchantments and food and name tags in the early game, before you’ve bothered with all that pesky villager kidnapping, and is still fun in the late game since it forms part of working towards some late game items. Although I think the changes they made to nerf automatic fishing might frustrate inexperienced players who don’t realise how specific the requirements for getting treasure are. 8/10
I think that’s every video game that has a fishing minigame. Let me know if I missed any but I’m pretty sure I got them all.

Monster Hunter Stories concept:
Ok so I never write anything down on this site but I wanted to jot an idea I had for the (superior) mh stories series.
Since the concept of befriending monsters is such a recent game spinoff, (don't know how "new" it is in the monster hunter universe) but it would be so cool if you could revisit old game locations with monsties as a way to breathe new life into the next mh stories game and also appeasing old fans.
I've got a few examples from the old games (at least ones that I myself have played, feel free to drop your own ideas in if you've played any others, that'd be really cool) but imagine revisiting Moga Village from mh3u and introducing the scared, mistrustful folk of Moga to your Lagiacrus monstie, teaching people not to fear monsters but to respect them and that they can be befriended as helpful companions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another example is to revisit old characters that you could breathe new life into by pairing their characters with suiting monsties. Such as the mh4u quest maiden with Brachydios, as OGs will remember her having a special quest where she admired Brachy.... "Admired".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like even if it seems weird because it "feels" like such a long time ago, since it's an older game, they could just fix this with the introduced rider being their child/grandchild. They've done a similar thing in mh Rise with the Sunbreak smithy being an ode to the mh4u Smith girl you have with your caravan team.
Another NPC/monstie duo I thought would be cool would be Julius (Ace Commander from Mh4u) with Kushala Daora, since his Master had to retire due to an attack from one, it could have such enemies-to-friends character ark potential!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, other than the potential for unearthing old locations and characters for older MH fans, there's potential for new game mechanics, story concepts and side quests by letting other people in the MH universe be taught/discover monstie bonding/riders, rather than keeping it exclusive to one tiny tribe in the middle of no where. You could have villages, towns and cities coexisting with monsties in order to help them in their lives and with their occupations, examples:
Royal ludroth coast guard
Lagiacrus with a fishing company
Mizutsune soap shop
Glavenus sushi bar
Basarios/Gravios helping a mining company
Kulu chicken farm??
Pukei insect exterminator
Great Jaggi (or any dog wyvern ig) school tour guide (and the kids could be on jaggias dude that would be so cute)
Qurupeco for finding endangered species using their calls
Zamtrios/jade barroth/gammoth for travelling in and clearing snow on roads and the like
Diablos/uragaan for bulldozing or agriculture
Generally loads more ideas, any of the flying monsters could be used from things like search and rescue to postal service. I guess anything you can think of that we do with animals you could incorporate into the stories universe with monsties. This includes all the bad stuff too! Like animal pitting, or breeding for rare colours/traits at the expense of health, or weaponising for war n selfish ideals, which I know has already been done in the first Stories but yeah.
Anyway those are my thoughts, I might draw these concepts, might not. Let me know if there are any monster hunter fans that have any thoughts, that'd be cool :)

Soulsborne bingo about Lady Maria!😎
Ohhhh yeah, her!!
Tumblr media
I have written plenty of headcanons on her so far, and she was one of the first Bloodborne characters I got invested in - and one of the first characters I've drawn! She is amongst my most elaborate Bloodborne portrayals in terms of headcanons, analysis and story! Fun fact - she is also my second most posted character, after Mico! Not to mention her frequient appearance in my dreams, too? Again, it is a little... odd, how I do not express all that much passion about her, despite having a VERY elaborate map of her in my head. Do you know how sometimes you really care about the character, but for some reason you need an extra stimul to actually bring up your thoughts and feelings? I am like this about her. Unassuming externally, but having a lot of things to say internally! I also would like to link some headcanons about her that I've written for another ask meme for her: ( x ).
Her design is really good, I love everything about it! Her face is so beautiful, and is more unique than you might assume! Her hair is not regular blonde but that paler, 'ashy' color, her eyes are not blue but mint green, her eyebrows are WHITE (Pthumerian blood much? :p) and the circles under her eyes (again - Pthumerian blood much??). And her eyelashes are very notably pale, too:
Tumblr media
When I draw her, I always get stuck just looking at her. And her hunter outfit is really great variant of the Knight clothes! Her wearing normal fancy Knight outfit, full of red and gemstones would just not feel the same. More modest yet more elegant look is PERFECT.
There is a lot going on about this character, too. I obsess over the fact that she could not bear the heartbreak after Fishing Hamlet and discarded the hunt as a concept, instead opting out for being a caretaker for the patients. And how she parallels Djura who also quit the hunt! But Djura survived for such a long time, comfortable in his purpose, yet Maria gave up and killed herself. I mean, there is a merit in the cut content idea that Simon ended her life in reality, but I think her suicide works better. (And how much you want to bet it was Adeline's death that was the last straw for Maria?..) She is a knight that was willing to help the humanity and protect it, but ended up losing her own, which is a tragedy consistent for Bloodborne it seems.
I also feel like she did have some weakness, meekness even, to her personality in the end, which is why despite having abandoned her clan and distasting blood she was powerless to protect Adeline from falling into their questionable antics. And chose passive role of caretaker for Church's (questionable!!!) business and keep their secret, despite having regretted ever taking part in the massacre. And could not go on, unlike Djura. She is a strong and stoic person, indeed, and a very skilled warrior, but also there is just... something. You know? She will kill a scary monster without problem, but when it comes to putting up a fight of the character, like resisting an intimidating authority - I feel she can't do that. Not even to protect someone dear, like Adeline. That, or Laurence sucks in people's courage like a black hole, wouldn't put it past the bastard either She will act very decisively in life and death situation on the battlefield, but will be an absolute coward about confessing her feelings or something...? Like unrealised trauma that has been a 'crack' in her soul. But she still would rise up despite it to do what she believed was right. It feels like doing sport despite a physical trauma that might betray you any time, but mentally so.
Tumblr media
Alright, you see what I mean? Any attempt to discuss Maria's personality makes me dive into one of the corners of her character. And she has several! I think if I was to write a devoted character analysis for her that is not spread across several posts, it would actually take a few days to put together!
We also can only be sure about her dynamics with Adeline and Gehrman, but there is otherwise a lot of potential for her knowing other characters, too! I love what we got, however! A lot to speculate on, both have good fundament for very elaborate story!
________________
In general, I love her character. You are not from the Western fandom but you will find that some fans will simplify her very unpleasantly. On the one hand, some drooling horny dudes that simply see her as a sexy female knight (that needs a makeover as if she is not attractive enough already...? wtf...). On the other hand, toxic adult babies that think her whole character will crumble and lose appeal if she likes not only women but men too, or if she has not only masculine sides to her character, but feminine ones too. I say, whatever character trait you pick on about her, she is always more than that. Exploring her beyond just being a badass, powerful, skilled hunter expands and complicates her character, but some people will call it "reducing" her because for them being strong and being "feminine" (?) are mutually exclusive traits for some reason. I'd also make a point that the fact she not only discarded the hunt, but her becoming a hunter again as a punishment in literal Hell is a BIG evidence against 'her TRUE self is a mean murderous warrior and Gehrman disrespected it' flex. But you already understand by now that in Western fandoms, based fans are in the trenches every day xD
All in all, Maria is probably the most interesting character in Bloodborne that can offer a lot to think about for everyone. There are always many ways to interpret her none of which is "absolute" and none of which "robs" any demographic off anything. This is what happens when a character is written like a person, and not like a 'statement'! ...and I say all this when she barely has any dialogue, and we as lore people are left to grasp at item descriptions, nonverbal narrative, actions of other characters, Dolls look in relation with Gehrman having feelings so warm it made Doll cry tears of joy, Doll wearing Maria's ribbon shoes and pendant, cut content, their spiritual connection, Cainhurst context......
Thank you for the ask!

Another poll! More Monster Hunter!!! MORE VOTES!!
I’m looking back on the various ‘mini games’ and collectibles put into World and previous titles, and want to see what people are looking for the most.
Reblog and the like for sample size if you want and add your thoughts too! I like reading them! Oh and mind my own illiterate-ion I meant Iterate!
Personally I LOVED the treasure hunts and Endemic life hunting. The sheer satisfaction I got when I finally got the Wintermoon Nettle almost equaled Fatalis. I also like the whole gathering ingredients for the Canteen, made it feel like we really were exploring the New World.
It’s one of the main reasons I didn’t vibe with Rise when they made them all utility only and gave them obvious names and stuff and got rid of the Canteen stuff.

@starlyht | continued from ☾
Given what night it was, Hartley hadn't indulged in any sleep either.
Not that she'd gotten too close, but she'd been near enough to keep an eye on what the wolf did - or to head off any unsuspecting humanoids that might have been headed this way. Luckily that hadn't been necessary, and the wolf had entertained itself with hunting and shredding a boar in the early hours.
And then, given she was not supposed to know, she'd circled back around into camp once the sun started rising and the change started receding. It was not something Hartley thought that Sol'rys would want anyone, let alone her to see. Plus it would afford him some small semblance of privacy to wake up.
Hartley lets a few minutes pass before she heads back towards the water - intentionally stepping on a branch as she approached so that he couldn't be caught unawares in his turmoil of the morning after. This picture she's met with is a sad one, Sol'rys standing soggy and ashamed in the shallow water - clearly having given up the pretense in front of her, if the way he turns away is anything to go by.
Sighing, Hartley fishes a cloth from her things, dropping the pack beside his clothes and wading into the water to join him. Dunking the cloth in the murky water, she makes to start helping him clean the blood from her skin. Her movements are slow, and grip lose so that, should he want, he could stop her with no resistance.
Tumblr media
"You've been doing relatively well, all things considered." She says, the despondent slope of his shoulders breaking her heart. "It's just poor luck you've been sleeping with a monster hunter."

I would like to contribute some questions for your "get to know the Author" post! What first drew you to the Monster Hunter franchise? Was it the main games or the Stories spin offs? Have you ever played Stories 2 and if so what is your main party? Do you like sushi / sashimi? OwO
Oooo, these are all very fun questions! 😁 Thank you for sending some in!
1.) And gosh...I've been with this franchise for nearly twelve years or so! It all started with little kid me watching my brother play Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. Specifically when you encounter Lagaicrus for the first time. I was in awe of all the creatures and the way the ecosystems tied together. Eventually, he let me make a file and play it. Since then, I've been hooked to the franchise. From Tri all the way to Rise! And the Spinoffs as well!
2.) I've played Stories 2 more times than I want to admit XD. My main party switches quite a bit but stays the same for the most part. Sooooo, here's my end of game party: A Silver Rathalos named Halo. A Golden Rathian named Saskia. A Soulseer Mizutsune named Kitsune. A Boltreaver Astalos named Folgura. A Velkhana named Gwyneira. A Nargacuga named Blackwind.
3.) No XD I am not a fan of raw fish. However, I appreciate how colorful it ends up being! Sushi dishes always look so pretty!
