Thanks to this beautiful post from @peridotsarelongterm and @cursedtrekedits, I bring you Mother Horta's disco hit, "No Kill I!"
Tumblr media
I’m made of silicon, I am petrified
I will protect the children, I remain right by their side
And I have spent so many nights thinking how you did us wrong
And I grew strong
I learned to vaporize your throng
Because you’re here
From outer space
I just crawled in to find you looting all our pergium in haste
I should have melted all the rock, I should have made sure that you’d flee
If I’d have known for just one second that you’d hurt my kids and me
Go on now, go, walk out the door
Just turn around now
Because I’ll liquidate the floor
Weren’t you the one who broke my eggs and made me cry?
You think I’d crumble
You think I’m just a pizza pie?
Oh no kill I, I must survive
For as long as Horta babies hatch you know I’ll stay alive
I’ve got all my life to live
My digestion’s corrosive
So no kill I
I will survive
Hey, hey
It took all the strength I had when you zapped my hump
After I’d stolen your reactor’s circulation pump
Into the Chamber of the Ages, not to hide myself away
And now you say
That you can cure my rainy day
And you see me
Somebody new
I like your Vulcan ears but I am not in love with you
The end of things cannot begin, tomorrow’s vault contains the key
If you break hundreds of my eggs then of your men I’ll burn fifty
Go on now, go
Walk out the door
Just turn around now
Or I’ll irradiate your core
Weren’t you the one who tried to meld and shouted “pain!”
Think I’m a devil
I’ve got a heart and bigger brain
Oh no kill I, I will survive
You may see a big lasagna, I’ll get pasta you to strive
Got eternity to birth, I’m not questioning my worth
So no kill I
I will survive…
Oh…
Okay, you’ll stay
We’ll make a deal
You’ll take the minerals
That we don’t need to make a meal
I’m dancing even though you cannot see my feet
Now that your doctor
Healed me with some concrete
You no kill I, I did survive
And we taught a moral lesson through the magic of sci-fi
Differences don’t mean wrong, that’s the Mother Horta’s song
So no kill I
I will survive
No kill I!

Star Trek: Vulcan Academy Murders
I wonder if spock was informed about this by the mother horta, if they even kept in contact

oh man devil in the dark is such a beautiful episode it's definitely my favorite so far
although the whole time I was internally shouting EGGS THEY'RE FUCKING EGGS
like literally the first time Spock picks one up in what's his name's office I was like bitch that is an egg
but yeah insane amount of Kirk/Spock relationship building, their love for each other really shines through
-Kirk being like "Kill on sight" because he doesn't want to lose anymore men (and by men he means Spock)
-Kirk getting frustrated with Spock because he wants to capture the creature which would put his life in danger so Kirk tries to tell him to go back up to the ship but Spock insists on staying by his side
- Spock's hesitation to go separate ways in the tunnels
-the panic in Spock's voice and on his face when Kirk is in danger
-"CAPTAIN! ... JIM!"
-Kirk NOT shooting the Horta like he said he would because he knows Spock didn't want it to die (and because Kirk has a beautiful soul and values the lives of other species)
-Spock telling Kirk to kill the Horta when he finds out it's right next to him
-KIRK MAKING SMALL TALK WITH THE HORTA PLEASE THIS WAS SO CUTE
-the way Kirk waves Spock over and they kinda squat there together
-the way Bones looks at Spock while Spock's mind melding and saying weird shit, but still continues healing the Horta because he's a doctor dammit
-Kirk and Spock tag teaming the little speech at the end about how the Horta is the mother of its species and the guys are just like shit we didn't know our bad
absolutely the high point of the series so far I loved everything about it

Eaha’le
I got the idea for the first part of this fic, the interaction between reader and Senator Cretak, and it rooted itself so deeply in my brain that I could literally hear it in her voice (specifically Megan Cole's Cretak, who I am deeply in love with 😅). Anyway, here's another entry for the December Prompt List by @creativepromptsforwriting. Tagging the folks I knew usually love that good Romulan shit! @deepspacedukat @bigblissandlove1 @sleepycat82 @starrynightgardens @horta-in-charge
Eaha'le translates to "sweetness" in Rihan.
December 8: Sweets (Senator Kimara Cretak x GN!Reader)
Warnings: none; pure fucking fluff; not beta'd we die like men. | Words: ~620
Tumblr media
“And, what did you say this was called again?” Kimara asked as she sat, slightly wide-eyed, at your mother’s kitchen table, the few brown crumbs dusting her lips begging you to kiss them off.
You laughed and wiped your floured hands on the towel slung over your shoulder before taking a seat across from her, the Christmas platter of shaped cookies resting between you.
“Gingerbread,” you reminded her.
“It is… spicy,” she murmured, reaching for another Human man-shaped cookie. “But also sweet.” She studied it intently before gingerly taking a bite.
She nodded thoughtfully. “This is excellent,” she mumbled around the cookie in her mouth.
More of your laughter bubbled over – while you never imagined you’d refer to a Romulan partner as “adorable”, Kimara’s curiosity was endearing and it made her all the more lovely to you.
You knew, of course, about the Senator’s penchant for sweets. In the time you’d known her, she’d never passed up an opportunity to try a new confection. She’d actually introduced you to jumja sticks after you’d arrived on Deep Space 9.
But being back in your family home on Earth for Christmas meant introducing Kimara to scads of novel, handmade Terran desserts – so far, there’d been some hits and some misses. She wasn’t a fan of sweet potato pie, which you’d lamented dramatically, or peanut butter fudge. But she’d eaten enough lemon bars to make herself sick and was “delighted” by the lightness of your profiteroles. Gingerbread, it would seem, was another hit.
“I’m glad you like it,” you offered. “It’s a pretty traditional Christmas dessert, around here anyway.”
A loud clinking carried across the kitchen as your mother entered, carrying a tilting stack of ceramic casserole dishes. She swore loudly as she caught her hip on the corner of the counter and dumped the pile of pans on the countertop in annoyance.
“I’m fixin’ to make my famous banana puddin’, Kimmy,” she divulged, leaning against the counter with one hand on her hip. You snorted lightly at your mother’s diminutive nickname for your dignified, Senate office-holding partner. Kimara glanced between you and your mother, her eyes still wide.
“Bananas are a sweet, custardy kind of fruit – and in banana pudding, you slice up bananas and layer them with cream and crispy vanilla cookies,” you filled in.
“And mine’s the best,” your mother added, fluffing her hair a bit. “Won the blue ribbon at the holiday bake-off for the last three years.”
“That sounds like an exceptional accomplishment,” Kimara replied earnestly, and you reached for her hand over the table to give it a squeeze. Her kindness never ceased to amaze you – it was unexpected from someone who’d previously described the Romulans’ “well-earned” arrogance to you.
“I look forward to trying it,” she added with a respectful incline of her head.
“Oh, you’re too sweet, Kimmy.” Your mother flushed and began making a racket as she shuffled her dishes around and started setting out ingredients.
A timer sounded from beside the oven and you ruefully pulled yourself from your Senator’s grasp to pull your thumbprint cookies out of the oven. Navigating around your mother’s chaos in the kitchen, you set your cookies to cool and poured a cup of tea each for you and Kimara. As you turned toward the table, you spotted her finishing her third gingerbread cookie and chided her softly.
“You’ll make yourself sick again,” you warned around a grin, setting the cups on the table and seating yourself beside your partner.
This time you couldn’t help it, leaning in to kiss away the specks of gingerbread clinging to her soft lips, your eyes fluttering closed as she kissed you back, spice and sparks crackling to life between you.

It can be argued that some of the Gods aren't Hellenic or Grecian at all. Technically, only Poseidon, Demeter, Persephone, Dionysus, and Artemis are Grecian. And that's because they were in those lands from Pre-Mycenean times.
Before Zeus, Hera, Hades, or Aphrodite, etc there was:
Poseidon was called Enesidaone, Poseidawonos, Poteidas, Posedao. He was the horse that rides the shore, and stirs the waves. He was the horse that carried souls to the Underworld and ruled the dead. He was Wanax- King of the Gods. He was the Horse God of the Seas and the Dead.
Demeter was called Sitopotinija, Horta, Deazeia, Damate, Damatura. She was the Earth-Mother, and wife of Poseidon. She was nature incarnate.
Persephone was Preswa and Despoine. The Goddess of Death. The White-Veiled Queen. She was the daughter of Poseidon and Demeter. And the second wife of her father. She was merciless and ruthless. Fair, just, and unbiased. She was impartial as death tends to be.
Dionysus was Diwonusujo, Diwunoso, Dionusos. He was Madness given form. He was the Bull-Horned God. He drove mortals insane. Made mothers devour their children, and fathers kill their families. And people slaughter entire towns. Son of Poseidon and Demeter.
Artemis was Artemito, Artio, and Arktos. She was the wild, free, untamed Bear Goddess of the Hunt. Feral Daughter of Poseidon and Demeter. She was the Forest Queen.

Ranking my favorite Star Trek TOS girlies
This is specifically about the women of the week, excluding those who appeared once in TOS but later reappeared in other Star Trek shows (like T'Pring, Amanda or Una). There are so many! Most are kinda meh eye candy, however, some are just great. Here we go...
13 Kelinda (2x22 By Any Other Name) : she's not a girl, she is hundred tentacle alien trapped in a woman's body
Tumblr media
12 Roberta Lincoln (2x26 Assignment: Earth) : just there to slay, she has some serious Doctor's companion vibes
Tumblr media
11 Lenore (1x13 Conscience of the King) : a murderous girlie with an unhealthy fixation on her father, you gotta love her
Tumblr media
10 Irina Galliulin (3x20 The Way to Eden) : Academy drop out in a sexy hippie polycule, what else do you need?
Tumblr media
9 Shahna (2x16 The Gamesters of Triskalion) : admittedly mostly there to look pretty, but I love her, I want her to come back
Tumblr media
8 Martha Landon (2x5 The Apple) : the first person in the show to high kick in a fight, honestly an icon
Tumblr media
7 Horta (1x25 The Devil in the Dark) : she's a blob of lava, she's a mother, she's into Spock, she is everything
Tumblr media
6 Daras (2x21 Patterns of Force) : she's an undercover freedom fighter who turned her own father in to get the enemy's trust, hardcore af
Tumblr media
5 Marta (3x14 Whom Gods Destroy) : criminally insane Orion who quotes Shakespeare and then claims she is the author, iconic
Tumblr media
4 Vanna (3x21 The Cloud Minders) : in her first scene she beats Kirk in a hand to hand combat, 'nough said
Tumblr media
3 Janice Lester (3x24 Turnabout Intruder) : yes, go exercise your girl power by murdering a lot of people and stealing Kirk's body, you can do anything, I believe in you!
Tumblr media
2 Romulan Commander (3x2 The Enterprise Incident) : the only female captain we'll get to have for a long time, absolute queen, so sexy and powerful with great sense of fashion
Tumblr media
1 Miranda Jones (3x5 Is There in Truth No Beauty) : my favorite by a lot, she is conflicted, annoying, petty and ready to kick sexist and ableist asses on the spot
Tumblr media
There are more that I could mention, but I thought 13 is an okay number to stop.

Ember: Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Read Chapter Two -> here
Looking after a Romulan widower's children proves to be as challenging as it is enjoyable. The children, bereft of a mother, latch onto their Human governess and eventually come to love her as family, but the surly Lord of the house is more resistant. Nadya assumes the man hates her, but it couldn't be farther from the truth.
Letant/Human OC, guilt/drama, eventual smut, enemies to lovers
Tag list (let me know if you want on or off this list): @romulanhorsegirl @deepspacedukat @bigblissandlove1, @horta-in-charge @emilie786 @darkmattervibes, @wafflingchemist

So I have been playing in a Star Trek Adventures game since the beginning of 2021 (I can't believe it's been 3 years already) and we have reached the start of our 'Season 3' so I have drawn character art for my characters and I'd like to introduce you to some of the U.S.S. Hestia's crew
Tumblr media
Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Ewan Gibbs
Gibbs (as he is called by everyone on the ship) was our helmsman and now serves as a Command Aide under the mentorship of our First Officer. He was born and raised in space on a starfleet ship, the U.S.S. Apollo, where his mother serves as Captain. He is the resident Human of the ship and has a fascination with old Earth Sci-fi. He is also severely afraid of Transporters due to being the only survivor of a transporter accident.
Tumblr media
Chief L'Vor ir-Renavi s'Nai
L' Vor is unique, an open Vulcan-Romulan Hybrid who has inherited none of the Vulcanoid adaptions to help regulate their emotions. They serve as an Evolutionary Biologist on the Hestia but they aren't afraid to nerve-pinch a Borg when needed. They recently set the ship on a mission to Romulan space where they made an impassioned speech for the Romulan Senate to get their act together and took a disruptor blast for the Prator.
Tumblr media
Lieutenant S'Turr
The fluffiest Caitian and Chief Engineer of the Hestia, S'Turr is still a relatively new officer who has been promoted a lot quicker than they expected. He was a shipbuilder at Utopia Planitia prior to her transfer to the Hestia, which happened a week prior to the Attack on Mars. They are the youngest of her nine siblings.
Tumblr media
Doctor Turak
The Hestia's Chief Medical Officer, Turak is a Vulcan who has undergone the Kolinahr. While they might not have the emotions for proper bedside manners, they are a big believer in what they term 'Practiced Compassion'. Turak is also a veteran of the Dominion War in which they lost their right arm, which has now been replaced with a prosthetic. The Doctor is also known to have weekly Kal-Toh matches with the ship's Captain, a fellow Vulcan
I also want to give a small shout out to my most recent character, a Horta security officer named Stellum who is in Starfleet for the kicks.

Horta, a Greek dish and Horta, an indigenous species nearly rendered extinct by capitalism in Star Trek.

Going to start rumor it's canon that the Star Trek f/x guy deliberately designed the alien as an homage to happy childhood memories of his late-mother's cooking.

The Hat
I couldn’t resist. I already discussed this idea with @horta-in-charge and I absolutely had to make it into a story, because why the hell not? This is dedicated to you, my friend!
Cross-posted to AO3 here.
~*~
Jorik (Vulcan OC)
[A/N: I just wanted to toss this into the void. So here ya go.]
Warnings: None, this is pure fluff. Unless a Vulcan acquiring a hat in a distinctly non-Vulcan way needs a warning. In which case, consider yourself warned.
~*~
**2355 - Late December (Winter) - Seattle, Earth**
Looking back at his day, Jorik noted that everything he’d done was quite logical when examined closely. His reasoning had been entirely sound. Why should he not keep his ears warm during this region’s winter?
Jorik had been strolling through Seattle - one of the cities farther north of the Academy - when he saw it for the first time: a human child wearing a hat. Of course, he’d seen children wearing them before, but not one like this. Not only did the head covering have flaps to shield the wearer’s ears, but it looked like some sort of animal.
The little girl wearing the hat was walking with her mother, and Jorik was so curious that he called out a careful ‘pardon me.’ The woman and her daughter stopped, and Jorik looked between them as he verbalized his thoughts.
“I apologize for interrupting your transit, but I was curious about the creature depicted on your child’s hat,” he explained, and the woman gave a small smile.
“Oh, it’s no trouble. Would you like to tell him about it, sweetie?” She asked looking to her daughter. The little girl couldn’t have been more than eight or ten years old, and she looked up at Jorik as though he was a wonder. He dropped to his knees so that he was at eye level with her.
“Are you a Vulcan, sir?” She asked in a small voice as her eyes flitted to his ears then back to his face.
“Yes, I am. My name is Jorik. It is agreeable to meet you,” he said giving her a respectful bow of his head.
“It’s nice to meet you, too. I’m Cassandra,” the girl replied with a smile. “What was it you wanted to know about my hat?”
“I have never seen an animal such as that. What is it?” Jorik asked glancing up at the contrasting black and white areas of the beast. It looked...soft.
“It’s called a panda. You’ve never seen a panda before?” Cassandra asked with wide eyes. Jorik shook his head and looked a bit more closely at her hat.
“I have not been on Earth very long, and we have no such creatures on Vulcan.”
“There’s a nature observation and education center not far from here. That’s where we just were,” the girl’s mother said, and he nodded his head as he gave a small hum of acknowledgment.
“You should go there, too, Mister Jorik! They have some baby pandas that they’re helping. I even got to pet one!” The little girl smiled as she spoke, and Jorik looked at her curiously. She was an energetic little human. Perhaps he would visit this nature center after all. The experience might provide him with an opportunity to learn more about the planet on which he was currently residing.
“I believe I will take your suggestion. Thank you for your assistance,” Jorik said giving her the Vulcan salute. She tried to return it, but struggled with separating her fingers. Very gently, he reached out and pressed the appropriate digits together on her hand, showing her the correct way. If he’d been human, he thought that, logically, he would have smiled at the joyous expression that spread across her little face. “Live long and prosper, Cassandra.”
“You too, Mister Jorik,” she said in her happy little voice before she and her mother resumed their previous course. He stood and walked to a map kiosk, locating the nature center that Cassandra’s mother had mentioned. He wasn’t due to return to the Academy until the weekend was over, so he was free to explore at his leisure. It was only logical that he take the girl’s suggestion. She’d taken the time to answer his questions, so it was only right that he should follow up on the information that he’d obtained.
The walk to the nature center was short and peaceful, and once inside, he was greeted by a cheerful employee.
“Good afternoon, sir! Welcome to the Seattle Wildlife Conservation Center. Is there anything in particular I can assist you with today?” Jorik raised an eyebrow curiously.
“Thank you. I wish to learn about what exactly this center does. I have also been informed by a friend that this would be an advantageous location from which to learn about an animal called a ‘panda.’”
“Oh, of course, sir. Right this way!” The enthusiastic woman, whose name he later learned to be Terri, took him on a tour of the facility. Jorik spent a good portion of his day learning about the various species of animals that the center worked with. Apparently, pandas and some other animal species were considered vulnerable or endangered only a few centuries before, so the center was one of many that monitored their populations and statuses.
The Vulcan stayed for several hours, and when he finally exited the building after having thanked Terri for her assistance, he’d acquired his own panda hat. The headwear was offered to all visitors who had interacted with the baby pandas as a commemorative souvenir.
As he walked back to the transporter station to return to the Academy, Jorik noted that his ears were at precisely the perfect temperature. Obviously, his choice to accept one of the hats was logical. Besides, the contrast between the black and white fur was aesthetically pleasing. He would simply ignore any odd looks that he might receive from the other Cadets.

* * * *
And at times we feel a little like exiles; a woman feels like that when she does not live up to the image of her required by the times, when she does not interpret it, and hence searches for paths, for other “countries” where life for her will be different from that in her own country, in the homeland given her by her mother’s womb.
