Ginger Rogers (Swing Time, Top Hat)—Look I’ll level with you, I’ve never seen her in a musical and I know that she’s an amazing dancer and she’ll be even hotter when I finally watch Top Hat but I’m not submitting her as a dancer I’m submitting her as an ACTRESS. Her comic timing is impeccable!!!!! She’s full to bursting with life and in every role she seems to be having FUN, you can practically feel the twinkle in her eye. With her natural warmth it’s like she’s letting you in on the joke, y’all get to have this fun together! Making me laugh is hot!!! [If you'd like to see Ginger dance, videos below the cut]
Dorothy Lamour (The Jungle Princess, Road to… movies)—Ok, to be honest, I get if no one wants to vote for her--she's kind of like my ~problematic fave~ because she started in the Road (Singapore, Bali, Hong Kong, etc) movies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, which are full of all sorts of exoticism tropes and usually have her playing very side-eye type roles..island princesses and things...yeah. also she banged J. Edgar Hoover. not very hot. but your honor i still think she's pretty despite all that she's pretty please look at her and tell me she's prettyyy
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Dorothy Lamour propaganda:
Tumblr media
She started in jungle and South Seas movies and became famous in the Road series. She learned quickly to improvise when facing Bob and Bing. Road to Bali almost has her character marrying both of theirs, since she's island royalty and nobody had a problem with it - a nearly poly relationship, an epiphany for a viewer who didn't even know that that could happen! She was a popular pinup girl during World War 2, and was the first singer for the popular standard "It Could Happen to You". She sang often in her movies and has a lovely voice!
Tumblr media
Ginger Rogers propaganda:
Tumblr media
She needs no introduction! An undeniable powerhouse on the dancefloor, and no less talented an actress. I once watched a compilation of cinema's greatest dance scenes and one of her and Fred Astaire's dances was featured, and one of the talking heads said he pitied her for 'having to keep up with him' - or something to that effect. Bullshit, I cry. Ginger Rogers was his absolute equal, and underplaying her incredible skill is downright criminal. I want the 'Cheek to Cheek' sequence from Top Hat to be permanently burned into my memory.
Tumblr media
"Backwards in high heels", as the saying goes (though the pedant in me must point out that she in fact spent her fair share of time leading or dancing side-by-side). One of the earliest twinkle-toed ladies of the silver screen, and in terms of acting/persona, her balance of wide-eyed cuteness and movie-star glamour has never quite been replicated.
Tumblr media
we all know her beloved string of musicals with fred but ginger also has an extensive and varied non-fred filmography that she's great in! a few ginger moments that are important 2 me personally ginger singing “we’re in the money” in gold diggers of 1933, complete with a verse in pig latin bc this whole movie is kinda mocking the concept of anyone actually being in the money in 1933; ginger and una merkel singing a verse of “shuffle off to buffalo” in 42nd street, providing some statler & waldorf-esque commentary on newlyweds from the upper berth of a railway car (interesting that belly was apparently a risque word in 1933 - maybe its bc the lyric is innuendo-ing about out of wedlock pregnancies - and that panties was a term for men’s underthings!); a favorite fred & ginger number
Tumblr media
Ginger Rogers could do everything! She could sing, dance and act. She was hilarious in comedies, moving in dramatic roles (she won an Oscar for Kitty Foyle in 1940) and absolutely gorgeous!
Listen, no shade to Fred Astaire at all, but she both kept up with him step for step and then later went on to WIN AN OSCAR FOR ACTING. (which he did not.) truly a double threat!!!
Tumblr media
One of the best dancers in Hollywood! Her work with Fred Astaire is just incredible.
ONE LINE: "Everything Fred did, Ginger did backwards and in heels" AND THEYRE RIGHT! Rogers was a total dance badass, and a lot of movie buffs know the story, but the Never Gonna Dance number from Swing Time took almost 50 takes, and allegedly by the end of filming it her white shoes had been stained pink because her feet were bleeding. As a note, she looks crazy gorgeous in this number. Watching these two dance is insane. They match up to each other in a way my mom describes as "divine" and she's right. DANCE NUMBERS!
youtube
Let's Call The Whole Thing Off (Shall We Dance, 1937, dancing starts at 3:14, they're in ROLLERSKATES)
youtube
(Ginger Rogers is the hottest woman ever to live in this number. seeing this as a teenager altered my brain chemistry)
youtube
(also watch her feet and how she moves opposite Astaire in this one. We all know our boy Freddie had that precision demon but jesus christ Miss Rogers, let a girl live!)
Pick Yourself Up, Swing Time 1936 (Everyone's seen this one but by god you are going to see it AGAIN!)
youtube
Shall We Dance, 1937 (duet begins at 2:34)
youtube
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Roberta 1935 (There's just something about Ginger Rogers in a slick black dress man)
youtube
The Continental, The Gay Divorcee 1934 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjv6nmF7wdk God she's MAGIC in this one.
youtube
Gay Divorcee's Ending Montage 1934The infamous table and chairs spin happens at about 0:49. Pay CLOSE attention to her in this bc it looks like witchcraft and I feel lightheaded whenever I watch this movie bc shes THAT awesome.
youtube
She is a miracle to watch. Sorry for the sheer amount of clips. My entire family is like madly in love with Ginger Rogers.

Doing this for my Tumblr bestie @ewanmitchellconnoisseur
Again don't judge me cuz I'm a weird person!
Ewan Mitchell's Characters ranked by Sexiness
(By my opinion which will not be popular opinion)
Listing under the cut
Will (Salad Days) - I cannot explain why. This is for sure not his best work but I find Will to be incredibly sexy. The accent along with his gentle speech in that first scene when he is talking to Leah just does it for me as well as I love an adorable man with low self-esteem.
Tumblr media
2. Ettore (High Life) I know, put me in a straight jacket and lock me up for being so attracted to this walking red flag but the fact that he barely speaks and his physical movements make him extremely attractive. (Although I feel like I should be constantly apologizing for finding him this attractive)
Tumblr media
3. Billy Washington (Trigger Point) - Billy has that "I am so incredibly pathetic please save me from my own inadequacy" thing going on and that scene where he whimpers and begs is a core memory for me (although i pretend what happens next didn't happen)
Tumblr media
4. Aemond Targaryen (House of the Dragon)- Goes without saying. Bad ass eyepatch, babygirl hair, mommas boy, war criminal, underdog, and the leather showing off his slim waist is too good not to love.
Tumblr media
5. Tom Bennet (World on Fire)-He is so cunty, pretty boy. The lip flip and the attitude ("Tea ladies?") very very sexy. Love Tom.
Tumblr media
6. Osferth (The Last Kingdom) - Osferth started out as not sexy but cute but grows into being a sexy little skanky monk. His loyalty to his crew and his relationship with Finan are adorable.
Tumblr media
7. Micheal Gavey (Saltburn)- Won't lie, he is the reason I dragged my boyfriend out to see Saltburn and he begrudgingly agreed to go and much to my luck ended up really liking the movie. My favorite thing about Micheal is his weird mannerisms. (The way he says "Losers" along with the strange way he ate that crunchy bar!). He is weird and smart and you can imagine hasn't been super successful in the romance department. Giving him a little bit of that "Pathetic Nerd" thing that is quite sexy.
Tumblr media
8. Abraham (Grantchester) - Abraham is possessive and old school and his facial expressions would have me constantly saying "Yes sir" I agree with the common head cannon that he would have a breeding kink because...... yeah he would.
Tumblr media
9. Genyen (Doctors) - He is a little thieving goofball but he is real slick and has an adorable smile. More cute than sexy.
Tumblr media
10. Billy Taylor (The Halycon) - Billy Taylor is just the cutest little thing and I find him so endearing. Would marry this man immediately.... after he turns like 23 because he is just too baby boy in canon but he is really super cute.

burn it all down (it doesn't have to be like this) drarry reclist 💣
aka the wizarding world is canonically so fucked up, what if we destroyed every system it upholds? (and then kissed?)
This list was inspired by Lots of Feelings about the midterm elections/government/systems of oppression etc. These five fics explore (in very different ways) how power corrupts, how unchecked stagnancy in social norms enables injustice, and the many forms resistance can take (mind the tags on them, most are quite heavy). I love them all. Related: VOTE IF YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN, EVERY YEAR.
By the Grace by @letteredlettered (T, 140k)
Once a war was won, it should stay won. Once one made progress, one should stay ahead. Instead, twenty years later, the losers were all coming back, the losses were being lost again.
A perfect fic about the refusal of systems of power to change, and the courage of individuals to change in spite of them. Both Draco and Harry force themselves to grow radically and painfully in this story. While Draco’s evolution is loud and public, Harry’s is quiet and internal, and the story sets these narratives of their personal journeys against the broader shifts of magical society to posit that if individuals can evolve, maybe the rest of the world can, too.
The Beauty of Thestrals and Other Unseen Things by @writcraft (E, 63k)
Harry stares at Hermione. “You can’t send people to Azkaban for kissing.” “I’m not sending people to Azkaban for kissing,” Hermione replies, tartly. “You are.”
One of my favorite things about fiction, and fanfiction in particular, is that authors can eradicate the prejudices of our world in fantasy. If magic can be real, why shouldn't it eliminate hate?
But fiction can also hold up a mirror to the ugliness that exists in the world in which we live. Hate and homophobia are distressingly present this fic — and because of that, it feels so grounded in the world that was Harry Potter, where any explicit references to queerness happened off page, long after the books were written. This fic is set in a world where queer people are forced to exist on the margins and invisible. But it can be cathartic to take that repressive world and insist within it on the existence and the humanity of those it tries to ignore and erase. The Beauty of Thestrals does that masterfully. I wept reading this, it's painful but it's beautiful. A Young Radical's Guide to Love by @blamebrampton (T, 66k)
“I told you she was guilty,” Weasley said. “Innocent people don’t run.” “Yes they do,” said Potter, before Draco could get his voice to move past his outrage. “They run all the time if they’re frightened, and we are frightening. She’s not a threat, Percy, she’s not even a source of information about actual threats. You know I disagree with this policy and I don’t see the benefit in it.”
Such a well-paced, thrilling and moving story about the performance of justice versus actual justice, and the easy slide into authoritarianism to which democratic institutions (and "the good guys") are susceptible. Plus, I am absolutely WEAK for Harry and Draco (and friends!) against the world. any day now by @oknowkiss (E, 17k)
“Look,” Potter begins, voice low. “I know you think I’m an idiot, but I do notice things actually, and I don’t think this whole–” he flutters his hands in the air, searching for a word, “-- experiment is benefiting anyone. At least not anyone except the Minister. Did you know his approval rating jumped fifteen points after this place opened?”
It's got Drarry AND a condemnation of the criminal justice system AND a Feelings Puppet, need I say more? Draco has been interred in a "reform" program for Death Eaters, and, like in every panopticon before it, those surveyed are used and abused in service of those in power. Draco is forced to learn, once again, that there are no good choices, only those you can live with. Harry, once again, tries to fix everything himself. It's sexy, it's angsty, and it has the gall to be so fucking funny while it rips your chest open and stomps on your heart.
Modern Love by @tackytigerfic (E, 61k)
“There are over two thousand magical citizens of this country who have pledged to relinquish their magic in protest at the draconian and unjust policies of the magical government. But of course if Harry Potter doesn’t get it—” and here she does a cruelly accurate impression of Harry, which he thinks is a bit unnecessary “—then of course it can’t be worth doing.”
Hey it's pretty messed up that wizards can live for hundreds of years and have seemingly infinite resources but ignore non-magical people and let them, like, die en masse, huh? Draco thinks so! This fic is so soft and lovely, but it also will make you think about the power of protest, self-forgiveness, and sacrifice.

I am reading The Goldfinch. I'm where he just started hanging out at the furniture/antiques place regularly. It's written well, it's holding my inerest, but I don't yet see what all the fuss is about. So not as a criticism but in an effort to appreciate something I might be missing, why is it a book you love?
well.
Tumblr media
donna tartt is one of my favorite authors anyways. I think she's a spectacular freak and her storytelling skills are exceptionally good and i've read as much of her work as i can possibly get my little hands on!
but for tgf specifically, the narrative being soooo so so centered on personal emphasis & meaning being bestowed upon specific artworks despite them being very unpersonal objects (after they get out of the artist's hands, that is,) in stark comparison to the way that art that can belong to/be seen/be consumed any random fucking person alive in the modern age has been the only existential buoy in my life for a very very very long time. in my lowest times, instead of killing myself i go stand in art museums and think about how much love and creativity is innate in humanity despite times of crisis and war and disease and all of the fucking agonies and everything going wrong and having no control over it. ha ha. it's always been a balm to me, to remember that there is goodness and love preserved in artwork, and that artwork is tougher and longer-lasting than you'd initially think, and that it's always there waiting for me to come back to it and see it in a different emotional state to find new meanings in it. this is the same as how theo thinks about the painting thru different times in his life!! going from needing it desperately as a connection to his mom, obsessively as a comfort, and then reviling it for being a representation of his life's biggest trauma and yet still tending to it and caring for it, to the heartache of losing it and the relief of retrieving it with the one person who genuinely loves him as an act of devotion and apology for a previous betrayal....all while navigating how systems in power are neglectful and uncaring and capitalistic. it's all just So Much To Me.....
and I know the middle chapters where theo just goes on and on about the intricacies of antique forgery aren't as fun and sexy as the vegas chapters with boris (underage drug abuse and gay sex WHEEEEEE) OR the actual criminal chapters at the end (mysterious borderline-noir criminal heist slash subtextual romcom), but they're soooo so poignant to me. because in my own little life, curating the art and music around me and finding beauty and importance and symbolism in these subtle things is a vital central axis that i need to have, much like i need a nice bed or a good meal or a glass of clean water. much of how i cope and navigate the world is very deeply focused around art & art analysis, and I think the only other book i've read that articulated that sort of feeling quite as eloquently would be john berger's way of seeing, which is an academic and analytical text. but i just love fiction so much, so to have tgf as the extremely emotional fiction option to go along w my nonfiction art thesis books that are tonally very prim and objective and well organized..... DELICIOUS. i love it. and i love a fictive narrative built upon tragedy. i love works that call back to each other in conversation, and stories that cannot exist without the foundation of Something Else Existing A Millennia Prior. i love comparing works and establishing what makes them similar or different but how they approach the same themes. and i love to see characters (THEO. boris. pippa. hobie. andy.) that i can identify with who struggle with similiar problems i have, because it makes it easier for me to get thru my own life. this isn't groundbreaking reasoning though, that's just how every human alive consumes art and content. of course we look for ourselves in fiction. of course we as individuals want to find things that we relate to.
and also in a purely self-indulgence way, I also looooooove it when media is unbearably long and i can get completely entranced and study it closely and always be able to find new details that throw the whole story into a completely new light, which I think tgf does very well because it's almost 900 pages LMAO. every time i reread it there's a new nuanced angle for me to think about actions and thoughts leading into consequences and i just eat that up every single time.......
but despite all of this i do recognize that tgf is not everyone's cup of tea. like it's genuinely one of the most meaningful texts in my heart but i completely understand how it can be long, and boring, and melodramatic, and a bit insane, and convoluted, and pompous, and not worth the time to get from cover to cover.
but it is worth the time. to me.

i think you have finally convinced me to try the something from the ikeman series. but which one ?? there are several ???? im so confused
*evil laughter* we got another one, folks!
Honestly, it really depends? Mind you these are mature games with mature themes *cough* the sexy time but also murder *cough* and the MCs are female aligning and they have a few characters traits and loose backstory of their own so it's not all just straight up self insert
I guess it depends how much murder do you want??
Ikemen prince is still the latest game (at least till ikemen villains comes out in spring) so the app interface itself is the most modern and user friendly one but it's also one of the most mature and dark ones (there's even mentions of rape) (again, only till ikevil drops in en) and they have gilbert and yeah he's kinda a trigger warning in of himself. The app recommends you chev's route, which literally starts with him killing some assassins in front of you, but my first route was yves who is tsundere but actually a sweetheart and he's the least fucked in the head around. Yves, Leon, and Chev were there from the beginning so they are kinda designed to be beginners routes that lay down a lot of lore (and most agree that chev's route suffered from that). There is a second prologue for the Act 2 routes, which introduces the foreign princes, so i guess you are better off leaving rio, sariel, keith, silvio or gilbert for later.
Just don't, DO NOT play silvio or luke first. Actually, I can't recommend silvio's route to anyone ever, it was so Mcfreaking bad.
Emma (default name for the MC) is the most "she just like me fr" mc out of all of them cuz she loves books. Unlike other games, it's a historical fantasy with no magic, and she grew up the there in the kingdom but no we never get more backstory on her beyond her job at the bookstore and when she saved rio's life 3 years prior the prologue.
Ikemen vampire was my first ikegame actually! And i only showed up cuz they have a Dazai. The interface is only slightly subpar from ikepri. If you heard this be called "the vampire smut game with the historical figures" then yeah that's kinda the gist of it. There also timetravel involved which is why it's set in 19th century paris but you have Dazai who's from the future and genderbend Joan D'arc in the same place. When they died Comte came and asked if they would leave their human lives to continue on as a vampire and they all agreed and he turned them.
MC (called Misuki in the manga) is from 21st century. She was like, a travel agent from tokyo / writes a personal travel blog, and she always dreamed of visiting paris. And when she visits the Louvre she accidentally follows Comte back through the time travelling door to the mention in 19th century. The door only opens once a month now she's gotta wait it out if she wants to go back. MC lays down some really poetic descriptive language which I think it's unique to her from other MCs and it shows that yeah she's a writer.
The mansion residents have such strong found family vibes. I think it's more like every route handles it's own suitor's problems, but this game also has an act 1 and act 2 format. Act 1 routes are napoleon, Leonardo, arthur, mozart, isaac, vincent, theo, jean, Shakespeare. Idk if I can really say one is a better starter route than others, except that in Shakespeare's route you move away from the mention and it would feel like a shame not to bond with the residents a lil first. Since Shakespeare's route was the last one before act 2 started so it's kind of like a bridge.
Oh yeah they have Vlad, this guy a murderer! So much murder! His minions are weird too! An executioner and a mad scientist!
Ikemen Sengoku takes place in Sengoku era japan, so it has a very unique environment. It's literally a pick your favorite war criminal kinda deal. They can all be surprisingly nice tho. It's once again a time travel shenanigans but MC and Sasuke traveled there from the 21st century through a wormhole, not a door, so they have to wait 3 months for the next one. The interface is old and it's the least beginner friendly one and the event are impossibly hard but man the chaos in here is so unique.
If you don't know crap about the japanese sengoku era, it's fine, neither did I. The plot gets going cuz MC accidentally saves the life of Nobunaga Oda who was supposed to be assassinated at Honno-ji before he could fulfill his ambition of unifying Japan. The game takes multiple liberties of bringing up people that should be dead by now according to history books and its only explained by timetravel shenanigans sometimes. The prologue tries to ship MC with him so hard but I haven't touched his route to this day and I never will. I downloaded this game so late and I ran around like a headless chicken and got along just fine. Unlike other games, you cannot change routes while you're in the middle of the route unless you have some stupid key item thingy. I can usually recommend sasuke as a beginner route cuz even if he's not your type his route gives you substantial information about each every other suiter. Mostly cuz he's also from the future and not only did he land in here 4 years prior to MC and had time to adjust, he is also a Sengoku era fanboy and constantly fanboying about these famous warlords.
Both Sasuke and MC (called Mai in the manga) share a distinctly 21 century humor and make a lot of references. Mai is undeniably the most sassy and unhinged MC from these games. Where Mitsuki will write a beautiful prose in her inner monologue, Mai will have something sarcastic or downright a thirst post. Before she got wrapped in all this she was about to start her dream job as a fashion designer, and she always finds work as a seamstress in the sengoku era not just for survival purposes but cuz that's her passion.
Ikemen Revolution got discontinued :( so there are no events and we tell you at the door, There is no Blanc route and we will never stop being pissed off about it. He is the first we meet, we fall into cradle cuz we were following him to try to give him back the watch he dropped, and then we never get to romance him. The world isn't fair.
Ikerev is also an older app, but it's also like. The least mature and dark game. There's still a war going on and shit but it's tame in comparison to the others.
Altho MC is from the 19th century England, she falls into a different world, in a country called Cradle. This is the only game that has magic in it. In cradle magic is more developed than science and it's as present in everyday life as electricity. People in cradle call MC's world The Land of Reason. People from the land of reason have the unique power to break spells. The first person who fell in cradle was called alice and her adventure in cradle was turned into the Alice in Wonderland book we know. The residents of cradle refer to MC as Alice the Second.
Like I said, there's a war going on, cuz the country is split into Black and Red territory, and it's a military state, and each territory is ruled by "card soldiers" yanno. The King of Hearts. The King of Spades. No one ever talks about diamonds or clubs cuz I think they said those are the ones that handle. Uh. Not military stuff? Idk. The only worst route you could play as a starter is Dalim cuz his route is like "here's a major spoiler for literally every other route in this game". We don't talk about Oliver or Seth's route. Plz don't do that to yourself.
Anways, the hole MC fell through appears again at the next full moon, so she got a month to survive Cradle and get back home. Before she fell, she was working at the best confectionery in london. I swear this girl never stops eating, no other game describes food in as much detail as she does. I'm also sorry she's probably the dumbest MC. SUCH a big heart, so few brain cells. I can't hate her.
Ikevil is for the freaks. They literally turned up the murder and the smut to 11.

Our Skyy 2 x The Eclipse Characterization and Loving Queer Men
Folks have been posting some excellent rebuttals about Akk and Ayan in response to the question: Are they acting out of character. I enjoyed @respectthepetty reminding us that they’ve always been this way. My fandom soulmate @shortpplfedup has been going off this morning about Akk, Ayan, Kan, and Thua. Fellow clown @lurkingshan has also posted about the lines between actors and their characters. What I want to talk about today is the misuse and abuse of the tools of criticism to just say the vibes were off for you.
I want to get this post out before I watch episode 2: I will say this clearly as we begin: It is completely okay to say that you had hoped for one thing to happen and are disappointed that it didn’t turn out that way. Xiao Zhan gave us the best way to express this:
Tumblr media
What bothers me so much about the instinct to deconstruct the characters and accuse them of being out of character for me is that it can be disingenuous to the characters, the actors, and the creative team. With The Eclipse in particular, you can’t watch this show without accounting for the violent response to the Thai student protests or the fact that Golf was unceremoniously ejected from their role in government. Gold has been using their characters as a mouthpiece for their ideas about the intersection of the personal and the political, as well as the role social media plays in protesting and fighting for change.
I was saving some of this for when A Boss and A Babe ended, but I want to also get this off of my chest. I see the debates about whether something is Queer Cinema or Boys Love cycle through once a season, and for me the conversation doesn’t matter. They’re all queer cinema, but they’re not always romances, and sometimes they pull from different film and cultural traditions. The real distinction for me is in the viewers. Ask yourself if you also love queer men (and other folks) when they aren’t being sexy, titillating, funny, or entertaining? Do you love us when we’re ugly, when we’re sick, when we’re old, when we’re being mean or catty? Oliver Sim of the xx recently revealed that he’s been living with HIV since he was 17. He’s “ugly.” Do you love him less now?
I often see viewers recoil from emotionally difficult themes and plotlines in these shows. I don’t begrudge people their needs to engage with content in a healthy way, but I find myself particularly defensive of the pain queer men feel as a queer man. I personally hate being told to smile all the time and present a personable face so that other people will like us more. I don’t want to put the kids through that. They can have messy plotlines that require you to embrace someone else’s complex humanity.
With the Suppalo boys in particular, folks have joked that they’re “my favorite war criminal” and “his rat bastard boyfriend.” These are not necessarily kind people. I call Akk and Ayan “Captain Repressed” and “Mr. Bad Bitch Walk.” These queer boys are messed up, and they won’t be the best communicators for quite some time. They are sorting out themselves and what their relationship will be, and this is the crux of Golf’s messaging.
It’s okay to be frustrated with a plotline, truly. I just ask that you consider if the feeling the show is bringing out in you is an intentional part of the viewing experience before questioning the characterization.

For the choose violence ask game - 1, 12, 18, 19, 22, 23
oh bestie you did not come to PLAY with this list okay okay okay I dont even know what i'm about to get myself into but okay!
The character everyone gets wrong and why?
I mean..we all know i have really strong opinions on the baby careers from the 74th, but a lot of that is based on extrapolation. So, instead, I'm going to go with my queen Enobaria. Yes. She has her little shark teeth. Yes she is a D2 victor. But she also is the only one left. Enobaria, we can assume, loses all of her friends either in the games or in the war. Of course people like to see her as crazy and blood thirsty, and yes I truly believe she could have won the Quarter Quell. That being said..when we see her in the end of Mockingjay she is the only Career left. period. And when she votes yes to the games it's like..not this over enthused yes because she loves the hunger games..it's let them know how it feels. Let the Capitol know how it feels to train and die and watch the children you mentor die and the friends you've made die and be abused and it's not about the glory of the games. It's about let everyone know how to feels to be the victor, to be the mentor, to be the person who watches someone they knew even briefly die. I love you Enobaria you will always be famous.
12. The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I have written 200k words on unpopular characters that people should like more so this one doesn't seem like i'll do much difference in answering but I'm going to go with Glimmer. Glimmer is a teenage girl who is immediately represented as a sex object. That is how she is presented; sexy. She's a teenager, literally no older than 18. Yeah we can hate her for whatever reason we want (which we don't really have a reason to) but I think it's important to recognize why she exists within the story and what I think the bigger point of her is and it's to represent how the capitol views them. She is, to me, very clearly a parallel to Cashmere who we know was a full fledged sex trafficking victim by snow. That is VERY Clearly what he fate would have been. She was a child being sold as a sex object so she could possibly survive, baby girl they could NEVER make me hate you!
18. It's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on..
Enobaria, period.
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
I have absolutely no shame/horror/etc over the fact I like anyone, I quite literally run a blog titled "mother of all careers apologists". We know who I like. We know I like Cato and Clove and Glimmer and Marvel. This is not news. I am not ashamed. It is my entire brand at this point.
22. Your favorite part of canon everyone else ignores?
I actually answered this one yesterday right here, it's the fact Peeta and Katniss come out of the arena with physical impairments and that Peeta is an amputee and that largely influences his story in Catching Fire in the arena!
23. Ship you've unwillingly come around to?
Again...I don't really think I came around to anything unwillingly. I run a Clato blog. I wrote Cashbaria into my stories. I consider myself a pioneer of Glimmer/Marvel shipping territory. If anything I think I make other people come around to ships against their will. Welcome to the fun house of career x career shipping that crosses district lines and weasels into everyone's hearts.
Thank you friend!!!

Fic Writer 20 Questions
Thank you for the tag @lttrsfrmlnrrgby! I am so very behind on all the tag games oops
1.) How many works do you have on ao3?
Technically 41 but 35 are fics and 6 are artworks.
2.) What's your ao3 word count?
150,270!
3.) What fandoms do you write for?
Currently I mainly write for Star Wars (codywan) but I also write for Good Omens! In the past I've also written fic for Doctor Who, Supernatural, Hannibal, and Criminal Minds. I think there's also a She-Ra fic that never made it past a couple paragraphs in my Google Docs 😂
4.) What are your top five fics by kudos?
1- kiss it better, baby: short and sweet destiel fic exploring sex repulsed asexuality in omegaverse
2 - Some Secrets aren't Meant to be Told: unfinished reader insert Criminal Minds x Supernatural crossover casefic I started when I was a teenager and abysmal at writing. Not to further disparage my age appropriate writing skills, but the formatting makes it nearly unreadable. We all learn and grow
3 - I'll Try and Somehow Make a Meaning of the Poison in this Place: 5 firsts between codywan as friends-with-benefits PLUS 1 time as boyfriends!
4 - catch me if you can (you already have): very sweet THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED codywan fic
5 - you're cute when you're nervous: good ol' codywan fic where they fulfill their promise of "after the war"
The blurbs are necessary because I do not recognize my fics by their titles 😂
5.) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I respond to every comment! Sometimes it just takes me a while because I've got anxiety and overthink everything. But I do always eventually reply! *glances at my inbox of 45+ comments and sweats*
6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
If you discard the blip of an epilogue at the end of what's left unspoken, your heart will ache. I wrote the epilogue because after I finished the fic, I read it through, sat back and thought "ow, what the fuck". Couldn't leave myself and everyone else with that bittersweet open ending.
7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh God. Everything I've ever written has a happy ending. I don't even know, man. Maybe my fwb codywan fic since it has so many rocky bits that the ending feels all the more sweet?
8.) Do you get hate on fics?
Very fortunate to say that I haven't!
9.) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes, yes I do. My smut exists as an expression of love and a vessel of emotional and physical intimacy between the characters. Even when I think I've just written something properly fucknasty, all my comments are like "wow this is so soft and sweet 🥺". Genuinely, my smut is so asexual. It's rare I write characters experiencing sexual attraction; it's all about how the characters feel, both physically and emotionally. I've not done a very good job of making this sound sexy. I promise people say it's hot too.
I really respect authors who write unabashedly horny things without the characters being in love. Hats off to you guys. I've got no fucking clue how that works!
10.) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I have written one crossover (the one linked in the kudos question) but I don't think it was particularly crazy. Don't think I'll ever write another crossover but I do love fusions and I've done one of Sleeping Beauty and Star Wars! I'd definitely love to do something like that again.
11.) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
12.) Have you ever had a fic translated?
I haven't but that would be so cool.
13.) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Nope!
14.) What's your all time favorite ship?
Oh goodness. Well. Hm. My ships have all gotten me through the lowest points of my life thus far and led me to meet my most treasured friends. I don't think I could concretely give an answer to this because every ship is special to me in a different way. I will say that I find myself so unbelievably grateful for codywan these days.
15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I have a Hannibal coffeeshop AU (Hannibal is still a cannibal, he just falls in love (unhealthily obsessed) with Will who's the only barista at the overpriced coffeeshop he frequents to get his order perfectly correct every single time) that I loooooove but I genuinely have not been able to get into the right headspace and flow to finish it.
16.) What are your writing strengths?
I'm really good at writing tender and heartfelt emotions. All the sap. It's my niche. If it's not implanted into every crevice of the fic just how sickeningly in love the characters are with one another, then it's not something I've written. I don't even do it on purpose most of the time. I sneeze and it appears on the page.
17.) What are your writing weaknesses?
I cannot possibly comprehend drafts (for fic writing). Everything has to be as close to how it is in my head on the first try. This is why it takes me so excruciatingly long to write anything. I hunker down and overthink and rewrite the same sentence five times over the course of an hour. Yes I know this isn't a sustainable writing method, HOWEVER, I've never claimed to have a good method of writing. Also, I'm not changing it. I'm stuck in my ways and I like it here. I'm cozy.
18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
If not done in a very specific way, it's definitely a pet peeve of mine.
19.) First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who!
20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?
At the moment, it's you're cute when you're nervous. Everytime I read it--which isn't often because I like to give myself time and space from my fics so I can enjoy them properly--it hits me with violent waves of emotion. Everything feels so palpable. I just really love it.
I've got no clue who's already been tagged so, truly, these are no pressure tags: @shortcuts-make-long-delays @aquaticflames @inkformyblood @agreekdemigod @cillyscribbles

for the meme: tobirama!!
!! :D
1: sexuality headcanon : demiromantic/demisexual as FUCK. also extremely gay. i'm sorry there's no way someone rocking the fur collar and bitchy snark the way he does is straight. ok i could see him as "i don't actually care about gender because gender is fake and irrelevant" too because he's too busy to notice people in a romanticosexual way in the first place.
also, one of those assholes who puts "sapiosexual" in his tinder bio.
2: otp : listen i like hatesex and "how DARE you make me notice you have a body" and in general high-conflict situations so i tend to shove him at the closest hot Uchiha that wanders by. mostly madara. it's boring if it makes canon sense ok XD
3: brotp : his actual brother is pretty neat as brothers go ;; their feelings for each other are actually pretty present if you look! also the "we're going to the beach, you need to go out more you nerd!!! (affectionate)" vs longsuffering little brother schtick is too hilarious when it's about continental-level murder machines.
4: notp : idk if i have one so long as it's well written. he doesn't have any canon interests, so. :/
5: first headcanon that pops into my head : i really like the idea that his face marks are an attempt to be like "if anija could do it, so can i!! D:<" with sage mode and fucking around and finding out that for once he can't. he's so OFFENDED about it. doesn't mind the marks themselves though. they're not disfiguring and they make enemies piss their pants 12% more, so.
6: favorite line from this character : every single time he disses naruto or minato is delicious.
7: one way in which I relate to this character : nerd. a hundred and seventy projects to finish, abandoned who knows where for who knows who to pick up and be like "ooh when will you finish that?" NEVER I'M IN MY GRAVE leave me alone with my seventh brand new project of the month.
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character : NOTHING he is perfect. i mean the necromancy wasn't GREAT but it was badass enough that i can't say i'm embarrassed. XD
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? .. both? both. ok he probably should be problematic but i refuse to do the "if i repeat seven times that i KNOW tobirama is a war criminal i can get a permit to mention he's sexy from the masses" dance with him. i'm gonna keep making kissy noises at his whole prissy cat thing.

VOTE FOR KIYOSHI KARASUMA IN THE OC POLL
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@original-character-championship
OC created by @giantchasm
from Adventures in Solitude
Quick break from my regularly scheduled dinosaur propaganda to present my propaganda for the best-written OC I’ve ever seen in a fanfic. I didn't create Kiyoshi, but he lives in my head rent-free now. He looks like a normal-ass preteen but he is such a fascinating and hilarious being. He is simultaneously a serious and dramatic character study on the ethics of reincarnation and a character whose mere existence feels like a hilarious cosmic joke. He is the personification of an Angsty Crack-Taken-Seriously Fic.
“Fun” Facts About The Boy:
Has a big fluffy Samoyed named Taros.
He’s a trans boy! Came out when he was ten, and his parents & family friends accepted and supported him. These first two are fun facts and not “fun” facts, unlike pretty much the rest of his preteen existence
His sleep paralysis demon is his best friend’s past life
The reason he turned out good this time is, canonically, because he burned some ants with a magnifying glass when he was three and felt really bad about it
As a baby he hated this one aunt on sight for no discernible reason. He came around pretty quickly and now she's his favorite aunt, but 12 years later they found out that this was because that aunt was his past life's younger sister-in-law who he once tried to murder. She also happens to be his current middle school teacher's wife for some reason
His best friend once clapped at him so threateningly that Kiyoshi dissociated and almost had a past-life flashback/panic attack in the middle of capture the flag
He would be personally offended if he saw someone online call Heinz Doofenshmirtz a mad scientist*
Was once a popular kid… when he was a preschooler. Then his anxiety and self-judgement got so bad that now he just sits in the back of the classroom judging everyone and had no friends outside of his parents’ now-adult former students prior to the start of the fic
Despite being a neurotic ball of anxiety and self-loathing, he and his mom (who love each other very much) regularly cuss at each other. He’s probably better at saying “fuck” than any other thirteen year old
Is the voice of reason in his friend group despite having been, y'know, a war criminal in his past life
His best friends got into a fistfight on school grounds over whether or not he should be forgiven for his war crimes
Part of the reason that his redemption arc is so satisfying is that his awful past life knew his parents and friends and fucking hated them all. That man would’ve been legitimately horrified to learn he’d be reborn as this couple’s neurotic little scrimblo of a child. Pretty much every aspect of Kiyoshi’s personality is tailor-made to piss off his past life, and that was mostly a coincidence b/c most of Kiyoshi's character was created before the author had even considered making him a reincarnation. Kiyoshi literally just being himself and accepting who he is is a fate worse than death to the horrible narcissistic man that he was in his past life.
he’s not a natural blond
When he tried shit-talking his past life with a friend, the best insult they could come up with was “Ghetsis from Pokemon”
"'WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP CALLING MY SLEEP PARALYSIS DEMON HOT!?,' Kiyoshi wails” is an actual quote from this fic. Both of his best friends, and half of his middle school class, agreed that his sleep paralysis demon was sexy
canonically ate a live rat in his past life*
*these are the only fun facts not explicitly mentioned in the original fic. everything else is real, I'm not making any of it up
And finally, some relevant memes and quotes:

Twenty Questions to Ask A Writer:
Thanks to @candycurlsofmaddness for this concept.
How many works do you have on AO3? Currently 70 with an additional 2 WIPS that are almost finished.
What's your total A03 word count? 437,647
What fandoms do you write for? oh, god. What I don’t write for would be a better question. A piece of media will stick with me and then I just obsessed with it. I think Star Trek is my biggest fandom with the most stories though. And two after that with the most stories would McLoed’s Daughter and Criminal Minds. I'm most active in the Star Trek/Star Wars/Stargate fandom spaces though.
What are your top five fics by kudos? Star Wars: Roads Paved with Good Intentions Numb3rs: To Assume Blacklist: Two Stranger in a Dark Club Hawaii 5-0: Accidents Happen Hawaii 5-0: Accidental Discovery
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I do try my hardest, but sometimes I get caught up with life and forget. I do reply if it hasn’t been like ten years.
What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Oh, Choices, the third in my law and order criminal intent series. Main character death after a short but full romance, ended with a funeral and no leads on the murder
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most of them are pretty happy, but probably Western Justice, one of my Bonanza stories.
Do you get hate on fics? Yep, but not as a writer strangely. As a reader I had a reply to my comment that told me to kill myself and called me the C word. That was not fun.
Do you write smut? I do! Though it’s only been recently and only if I feel like it fits into the story and fandom. I’m a big fan of fade to black as well as non explicit smut. That’s my favorite kinda, sexy, but we don’t need all the bits and bobs, but that’s my opinion.
Do you write crossovers? Not usually! I’ve only done one, Highlander/Criminal Minds.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know off, but with AI, probably.
Have you ever had a fic translated? I have! And it was a great honor.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope and I don’t have a strong desire to do so? I could switch off my chapters with another author’s but writing a whole story together? Not my bag.
What's your all-time favourite ship? Jack/Sam from Stargate SG-1 has a special place in my heart, but I don’t think I’m a die hard shipper normally.
What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Ooof. There’s some for Star Trek TNG that I’l never finish. Too cringey.
What are your writing strengths? I’m great with dialogue, pacing, and action scene.
What are your writing weaknesses? grammar, spelling, run on sentences, maybe plot some times?
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I’ve done it, but figuring out the translation or getting it so no translation is needed even if it’s a foreign language. It’s messy.
First fandom you wrote for: Star Wars believe it or not, but published was CSI NY.
Favourite fic you've ever written? Oooooo. Tough one. I like all of them, don’t make me choose a favorite child. Rude.

Have you read Kerrigan Byrne's victorian rebels?
Yes. I have issues with some things Kerrigan has written (which I'll get into) and additionally her use of AI art and reaction to (pretty forthright but not impolite) critique of the use of AI art that make it so that, where I was initially in love with the first couple of books I read by her (The Highwayman and Seducing a Stranger) I can't recommend her anymore. My takes on those books:
The Highwayman--honestly great, I'm afraid. Dark and interesting and hot. Love the hero and the heroine. Has one of my favorite sex scenes ever. I own it and I will reread it, but again, I don't feel like I can recommend her in general.
The Hunter--has a lot of good stuff going for it but a) I actually realized later that this has, down to a science, the exact same twist as Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt; I'm not suggesting this was intentional, but where I see people compare The Highwayman to a Kleypas book a lot, that was some general structural stuff, whereas this is THE EXACT same twist b) more importantly, I super hate the hero having a martial arts instructor who gives vague "East Asian" types of platitudes in broken English, it's gross! I also remember this really weird passage about a brown manservant (who is later killed, fwiw) being described as like... really simple... and having "gentle eyes" like a cow or horse or something. It felt gross.
And I will say: obviously, I've read HR authors who've done similarly. It's always bad. What I find adds an extra layer of concern to Kerrigan's work is that it's all relatively recent. You're not picking up a book from the 80s where I wouldn't even expect a (white) critique partner or editor to be likely to call this shit out. I really don't get it.
The Highlander--oh, man. This has the bones of being a sexy Highlander Captain Von Trapp book. And I'll be honest, I loved the leads and their dynamic on a basic level. EXCEPT. AND THIS IS A BIG EXCEPT. For the fact that the hero is a self-admitted war criminal. His angst? Is that he was an officer in the Queen's Army who razed Indian villages to the ground and killed/drove the killings of innocent civilians. And you know what? He feels bad about it, which is why he took a child who was one of the only survivors of one of his massacres and made him his vALET! GREAT! LOVE IT!
I'll be honest, I found so little criticism of this (probably because the book generally isn't popular--I read Seducing a Stranger first, I think, and The Highwayman second, or the other way around, so this was somewhere in the middle of the pack) that I was like "maybe I just exaggerated it in my head" but I reread it and nope, it was uhhhh pretty bad dude. Like, the valet guy then tries to kill the hero and the book is kinda like "well fair" but it's also like lmao? This is the villainous crux of the novel...? And kinda fed into the "untrustworthy sneaky servant of color" thing, which like, YEAH. HE SHOULDN'T BE TRUSTWORTHY BECAUSE IN TURN WHY WOULD HE EVER LIKE THE GUY WHO KILLED HIS FAMILY.
The Duke--I don't remember much of this one tbh
The Scot Beds His Wife--I liked this one a lot back in the day, but I haven't read it in a while so perhaps I missed some horror, can't confirm or deny
The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo--same as the above
Seducing a Stranger--I loved this one; I love Carlton Morley; I really wish there weren't so many things going on with the rest of the series, dude.
The thing is that Kerrigan's issues with race keep cropping up. The Highlander is the biggest example. But I remember there being some weird shit in How to Love a Duke in Ten Days that I honestly, blame is on me here, missed the first go re: fetishized islanders. It's like, throwaway lines where I get the vibe that she's trying to acknowledge that people of color exist in the Victorian era, which good in theory, but it's often patronizing or fetishistic or downright "what the fuck were you thinking" as with The Highlander. They're often servile. It's just not the look, and the thing is that if it happens and an author gets called out and takes that feedback and works on their books... I'm white, it's not on me to say whether or not that's valid. But Kerrigan's work has it repeatedly, and she should know better. Plus, she just seems super bad at taking criticism (I've heard of her responding to critiques of The Highwayman super defensively, in a setting wherein her response was not necessary or wanted) so I doubt she'd work on it.
I think she's honestly a very talented writer, and the two books I say I loved? I loved. I recommended them all the time back in the day. But I did some self analysis and was like "Do you honestly feel good about recommending these books with the concerns you have about the books you're not recommending?" Because there are situations, where one mildly problematic book (say, a book with a slut shaming heroine written 10+ years ago) won't put me off recommending other, ideally later works by the author. But The Highlander WASN'T mild and it wasn't isolated. And after the AI thing happened, it was like--dude, you should know better, you shouldn't be recommending books by someone that gives you vibes this bad.
And I shouldn't have given her the leniency I did after The Highlander. That's really on me.

🍈🍍🫐 you fruity bitch
hi dude baby
for the fruity fic asks!!
🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.
There's this guyyyyyyy his name is siri b I don't know if you heard of him I seem to constantly be writing him wearing crop tops and low rise pants, has a tramp stamp, putting his hair in braids and pigtails, school nerd a big writer/reader and math person, takes portrait photography too I think its gonna be a thing from now on, insecure but outspoken, a bit more on the shy/introspective side, lays down in his bed when sad, will win a fight, angry eyes and aggressive, a little mean sometimes, loves receiving gifts and having his hair played with, trans!!, a leftist, a disaster in the kitchen and won't eat good if not forced to, sexiest person on the dance floor, pretty laughter, likes sex more than he likes cuddling, likes hip-hop and has big headphones and smokes rollies. oh and grey eyes. Face of an Angel.
🍍 What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?
I LOVE a high-school and university au something about romanticizing student life just GETS ME I also like it when they're artists or musicians or sport players because Sexy. On beef I'd say when people add a big age gap or a power dynamic (like Remus being Sirius' servant or his teacher - unless it's just for kinky porn purposes I can get behind that) I usually don't like that. More often than not it leads to absolute character assassination. Also and I'm gonna say it with my chest I won't read them as lesbians.
🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.)
Somebody write. First war enemies to lovers au Remus never went to hogwarts and he is part of a werewolf militia and they kidnap Sirius because they don't know the Black family disownment tea and there's So Much Sexual Tension as beast unleashed!Remus taunts him and shit. It can't be me because it pains me to write war plot stuff but somebody should.
