today’s misc 80s movies that i recommend watching - cheesy/awful or not - it’s an aesthetic
Howard the Duck
My Opinion - Ya’ll I’m gonna be dreadfully honest with you. This movie was painful to watch, but was just as equally hilarious because of how painful it was. I swear, I had to pause this movie at least 3 or 4 times to regain my sanity because of how ridiculously cheesy it was. Unlike most movies that have cartoon animation cross-overs, Howard the Duck went the extra mile and transformed this iconic Daffy Duck/Donald Duck rip-off character as a costume/animatronic look-alike.
It’s a bit nightmarish up-close, but when they pan out and you see him from afar - he looks pretty cool not gonna lie. I think what made this movie the most painful though was the fact that this ultra-realistic looking duck from another dimension and the pretty-female rock star protagonist continuously hit on each other and you can’t help but laugh and cringe because he’s a mother-fricken’ Duck for God’s sake. It’s still a better romance then Twilight tho.
Despite the cheesy star-crossed lovers thing between Howard and Beverly, I have to say it was a pretty good movie to waste some time away watching. FUN FACT AS WELL - Howard the Duck canonically became an official Marvel character and can in fact be seen fighting with the heroes in Avengers End Game. He also made large cameo scenes in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Plot - Howard the Duck, a struggling actor from an alternate universe, mysteriously gets transported to Earth by an unnatural E.T. force. Finding himself in a new world populated with ‘naked-apes’, he has to try to find his way back home while also searching for the force that brought him to earth in the first place. And of course, how could he do this alone without the help of his side chic, rock-star friend, Beverly.
Vibes
My Opinion - Vibes is an old Psychic movie featuring the charming & fantastic Jeff Goldblum and the lovely Cyndi Lauper,
(That’s right. I’m talking about the artist behind “Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun”)
I’m going to be frank tho; this movie was fascinatingly written - and no - I don’t entirely mean that in a good way, BUT, to be fair - I did actually really enjoy this movie. I thought it was very funny and quirky and lowkey kinda cool because of the plot. I honestly think the best part was that Jeff and Cyndi were the love interests - | but the bad part | - the writer’s were a little awkward when it came to writing romance.
I mean, the romance isn’t TOO awkward, but the creators of the movie sure as hell didn’t live up to Jeff Goldblum’s full suave potential like they did in his featurette from “Earth Girls Are Easy”.
(which is a review you can read in my previous Misc 80s Movie Post)
Overall - - - despite the movie’s inability to portray getting shot correctly, it’s obvious 80s esque cheesiness, and the strange fact that they HIGHLY refused to use CGI for certain things - - it makes for a pretty fun time waster. When it comes down to the movies ACTUAL plot as well, it was an admittedly interesting film. Especially since it takes on “Indiana Jones” and “Ghostbusters” aesthetics, minus the special affects. Therefore - I think it’s worth some free time.
Plot - Nick Deezy and Sylvia Pickel, two awkward Psychics, are hired by the shady Harry Buscafusco to search for his lost son in Ecudor, only to discover it was a sham to trick them into discovering the lost Incan city of Gold - but their’s a catch. This city of gold might not being hiding gold at all, but a darker, deeper secret that has been lost to time itself.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
My Opinion - I gotta admit, this was a pretty fascinating movie despite it’s plot being somewhat ridiculous and everywhere simultaneously - but I still think it was definitely worth all my time.
The movie stars Peter Weller as the main character, Buckaroo Banzai, who is basically the male version of barbie. He’s a nuero surgeon, an inventor, a scientist, a rockstar - he’s done it all. Of course though, who better to be his second hand man then Jeff Goldblum himself -
*if you haven’t already guessed - i deliberately go out of my way to find movies Jeff has played in because i’m a sucker for a good Jeffy G. Character*
- the movie is about Buckaroo Banzai breaking the 8th dimension and cracking the code at teleportation, therefore, the pace tends to get a bit fast and crazy, but I thought it was still a really great movie even with it’s subtle chaos. I mean...what can you say??? This is an 80s movie; of course it’s bound to be a bit cheesy.
Plot - I um .... I uh .... *inhales* After Buckaroo Bonzai breaks the 8th dimension and accidentally steals an intergalactic mechanism, he and his trusty cavaliers must fight a war against aliens from planet 10 as they are led by their psychotic dictator who’s possessed the body of an Italian scientist.

Watch party for VIBES (1988)!
When psychics Nick Deezy (Jeff Goldblum) and Sylvia Pickel (Cyndi Lauper (yes, that Cyndi Lauper, and no, she cannot act)) each excel at a psychic testing facility, they are swept along as part of a scheme by the mysterious but charismatic Harry Buscafusco (Peter Falk) - a scheme to discover a long-lost treasure in the mountains of South America.
This is a really cute, quirky little comedy from the same year, and much the same vein, as Earth Girls Are Easy (1988) - it’s absolutely adorable, and you should totally join us for it tomorrow! With our watch parties, all we do is settle into a Rabbit room, where we can each watch the same stream of the film from our own computers, all while sharing a chatroom so we can talk as the movie goes on!
Saturday, 29th September, 2018!
9pm GMT | 4pm EST | 1pm PST
The link to the Rabbit room will go up here on @goldbluminspired around an hour before the event is due to start, and we’ll just chat aimlessly and watch interview videos and stuff, then the actual movie I’ll set to play at 9/4/1 on the dot.
For the full set of screenings to come, every Saturday at the same time, check out the calendar here, and feel free to drop a message if there’s a film you’d like to see! Please reblog to signal boost!

[Single] @lodeezyofficial “KOOCKIN & JUGGIN”
01 MAY 2020 (FORT LAUDERDALE, FL) – Miami’s Cheflodeezy releases first single of 2020 “Koockin & Juggin”, pushing out new music against the backdrop of the Corona virus pandemic.
Stream/download “Koockin & Juggin” HERE
Miami like most cities ha been grappling with the effects of the Coronavirus. The usually teeming city known for it’s vibrance and energy has ground to a halt in an effort to slow the spread of the virus via social distancing measures. Rapper Cheflodeezy is hoping for the return of life to his beloved city and is choosing to let the creative juices flow during the difficult time for the city. Choosing to release his newest single “Koockin & Juggin”. The high energy trap infused single is Deezy’s first of the year with a continuous stream of releases planned as the year progresses.
The single written and performed by Deezy is semi-autobiographical and chronicles some of Deezy’s favorite pastimes as well as laying out some of Miami’s unspoken street code. The single is assisted with a beat production from producer Ace Bankz. The single is broadly available on May 1st, 2020.
Cheflodeezy is a Jamaican born Miami based artist. Deezy moved to Opa Locka, Miami at the age of 9 where he lived with his mom and younger brother. Deezy found his love for music as a teenager at Miami Central High, when his best friend at the time introduced him to the beat making platform Fruity Loops. After high school, Deezy fell into the street life. By the age of 21 he had multiple arrests, struggled with homelessness and the loss of a few close friends to gun violence. After almost being incarcerated for undisclosed cases and the birth of his first child llamiyah, Deezy decided to change his life.
He went to culinary school and pursued a career as a professional chef. This is where he got the nick name “Cheflodeezy”. He free-styled and had other students listen to his music on a daily basis. After graduating culinary school, Deezy began to climb in the hospitality industry. Cheflodeezy started to literally blow up in the culinary word where he was featured in SoHo House world magazine as a rising star on Deco drive, and cooking for various celebrities on visits. Never letting his love for music die, Cheflodeezy went to recording studios on his days off and wrote music before and after work on most days. Still dream chasing and dropping music weekly, Cheflodeezy does this for the love of the craft.
