From my position on the green, the kids seemed normal, all caught in the distraction of their youth. But as I edged nearer I noticed how freakishly odd they appeared – their heads. Their heads were huge, and their foreheads wide and round, giving them a balloon-like appearance, a condition worsened by their receding hairlines and chins, which apologetically descended from their feeble underdeveloped jaws and wide mouths. And when they laughed and grinned, many teeth, tiny and white, appeared in those mouths, too many teeth for a human to have, or so I thought. And when they turned to look at me, they did so without blinking their large black, watery eyes. Eyes that gave them such a fishlike look... … Soon all the kids were aware of my presence - more large, black, watery eyes locked upon me, but with a sense of childlike curiosity, as opposed to any malicious intent. They began to whisper and point, and giggle, huddling into one another to do so. I guessed that visitors to Invermore were infrequent, given their hyper-sense of curiosity. Despite their inquisitive nature, the children seemed timid, reminiscent of baby deer, displaying the same cervine reluctance to venture nearer to their perception of danger. ~ Letter to my Love ~ My love. This very morning I am stirred awake by the light of the rising sun, the Dawn, a golden cat, prowling and stalking, scattering the Night as though it were a flock of blackbirds. “Why did I let sleep conquer me?!” Are the words that topple from my lamenting lips, as then I wipe the bedtime glue from my eyes. But my conscience is as tough as it's cruel, what am I to do, when I am merely blood and bone, wrapped in a decaying skin sack?! For I am weak against the Sirens of Sleep, those purveyors of the irresistible vibrations, which sooth tired minds into the perils of slumber – they, promising rejuvenation for the beleaguered psyche. My love, I have become adverse to sleep, for reasons I think you will understand. For me, sleep is a two-headed monster, baying, always baying to drag me into a nonsensical world, where control is relinquished for capricious fancies. I fight it, with all that my feeble heart can muster, I fight it. In the first instance, a minute endured in that capricious world feels like a lifetime without gazing upon you. It is a wasted moment, a whistle in the wind, a song that voices never sing, a love forgotten in the annals of time. My life too precious to so flimsily squander. In the second instance, as a child trembles at the sinister shapes their eyes cut from the dark, I tremble at the thought of dreaming all my dreams, and leaving none to dream with you. Perhaps, a silly gesture, but what is sillier than a heart in love. Please, my love, I hope you understand why my voice is quiet and slow, and my eyes droop to almost closing. ~ The Messanger ~ This night a visitor descended upon my bedroom - a divine messanger of light, whose words warmed my soul. I envisioned each uttered syllable as a ray of sunshine travelling through galaxies just for my benefit. I listened, intently, gifting my messanger the keenest ear on which to lay its gilded words. With angelic resonance the being said thus, "Humility is the sugar that sweetens us. Dine on that fruit, and the demons that reside in you, will succumb. All anger. All desire to discard your Morals and live by the rules of your baser instincts will dissipate."
