Reno Omokri shakes the table and bursts a bubble again as he schools an Obidient on Nigerian history
Tumblr media
Earlier today, a post was shared on Ooduarere where Reno Omkori replied to an Obedient on twitter/X. He has done it again. This time around he schooled an obedient that was trying to play the victim on Aburi Accord. The Twitter user by the ID @Benjami03827700 shared the screenshot below. See what he wrote below.

@renoomokri: Dear Obi, Thank you for your feedback. On Aburi, you may want to consider the following facts. When Major General Aguiyi-Ironsi abrogated regionalism and promulgated Decree Number 34 on May 24, 1966, which effectively ended regionalism, took control of all resources, including oil (all resources, including oil used to belong to the regions before Ironsi's decree), which had hitherto belonged to the regions, and domiciled them in his military government.  Other members of the Supreme Military Council alleged that Ironsi did not consult them before promulgating the decree. It is not known if their allegation is true. However, Ironsi's Attorney General, Chief Gabriel Chike Michael Onyiuke, later said Ironsi did not need to consult them. Also, perhaps naively, ALL of Ironsi's advisers were Igbo, like him.  They included Chief Francis Nwokedi, Dr. Pius Okigbo, and Colonel Patrick Anwunah. Calls for him to appoint at least one token non-Igbo fell on deaf ears. That decree ignited the counter-coup of July 29, 1966, in which Ironsi was killed and replaced with Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon, who did not participate in the coup but was a compromise candidate since he was a Northerner, to appease the North and a Christian, to placate the South. All Military Governors accepted him except Ojukwu.  Eventually, the then Ghanaian military leader, General Ankrah, invited Gowon and Ojukwu for a peace meeting in Aburi, Ghana, between January 4-5, 1967. Agreements were reached, including that Gowon would broadcast first, AFTER CONSULTATIONS, followed by Ojukwu. However, upon return, Ojukwu made his broadcast first, which shocked other regions and jeopardised Gowon, who was almost removed by those who made him Head of State.  Please note that Gowon had no control of the troops. He was, at that time, just a titular Head of State. The real power was domiciled with Colonel Murtala Muhammed until Murtala was militarily humiliated by the Biafrans at Abagana on March 31, 1968, after which Gowon relieved him of his command, and Colonel Obasanjo later became the darling of Gowon due to his military effectiveness against Biafra.  You must understand that at that time, Ojukwu had full dictatorial powers in Biafra, but Gowon was hanging on a rope in Lagos. As a result of Ojukwu's broadcast, Gowon issued Decree Number 8, and later, on May 27, 1967, broke Nigeria into 12 states. That decree would NEVER have been passed were it not for Ojukwu's broadcast. Ojukwu rejected both actions and declared the Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1967, which ignited a police action by Gowon's government on July 6, 1967.  Things degenerated into war, which did not end until Biafra's defeat on January 15, 1970, after Ojukwu fled on January 11, 1970. The war may have been prevented if Ojukwu broke away with only the East Central state, which was homogeneously Igbo. However, he insisted on the whole of Eastern Nigeria, which included non-Igbos in Calabar and Rivers, whose leaders, like Isaac Boro and Ken Asari-Wiwa, rejected Biafra. Even within Biafra, prominent Igbos, like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, did not support Ojukwu's actions.  They felt that a diplomatic solution could be reached. But after Colonel Ojukwu began executing his friends, like Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Colonel Victor Banjo, Philip Alale, and Sam Agbam, amongst others, for treason, they all kept quiet and began plotting to escape Biafra.  This is why Nnamdi Azikiwe escaped from Biafra and turned up in Lagos in 1969, sitting beside General Gowon, declaring support for the Federal Military Government and condemning Colonel Ojukwu, whom he blamed for the deaths of millions of Biafrans. If Colonel Ojukwu had only waited for Gowon to broadcast after Aburi, there would likely have been no war. Thanks again, and may God bless you.  #TableShaker

This is not Edinburgh🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿This is Enugu🇳🇬. Things to Know About Enugu State-Nigeria (The Coal City) Enugu, nicknamed the ?coal city? is the capital of Enugu state in South-Eastern Nigeria. The city is popular for its cuisine, robust industries and of course, the local palm wine. Despite this, there's a lot many people don't know about Enugu. But of course, it's never too late to learn. 1. The Meaning of Enugu The name Enugu derived from two Igbo words, ??n? ??gw??? means ?top of the hill or mountain?. The name obviously denotes the city?s geography naturally decorated with rolling hills and valleys. The city was named after ?Enugu Ngwo? under which coal was discovered. Enugu inhabited majorly by the Nike subgroup of the Igbo people, ?ndi Nike? in the Igbo language means ?those with strength or power?. 2. How did Enugu Become "The Coal City" The Europeans commissioned Albert Ernest Kitson to lead an exploration in 1903 to find mineral resources in the area. In 1909 Coal was discovered in Enugu at the Udi Hills and this led to the construction of the Eastern Railway to transport coal to the port at Port Harcourt Enugu was then developed by the Europeans to become one of the few West African cities with a European touch. Enugu was declared the capital of the Eastern Region after Nigeria?s independence in 1960 having previously served as the administrative capital of the same region from 1938 till independence. 3. Enugu Was Briefly the Capital City of A Country The city also served as the ?capital of Igboland? known as the Republic of Biafra in 1967. The Biafran capital was moved to Umuahia after the Nigerian Armed forces captured Enugu. In 1991, the old Anambra state was divided into two to create Enugu and Anambra State. Enugu remained the capital of the new Enugu State created by Ibrahim Babangida?s military regime. On October 1, 1960, Nigeria became an independent nation. Pictured are Kwame Nkrumah and the team captains for the Ghanaian and Nigerian football teams in 1957 at the Jalco Cup. The Jalco Cup was a football tournament for Nigeria and Ghana that was organized by a Nigerian company, Joe Allen & Co. The Jalco Cup ran from 1951-1959. The 1957 match was held in Accra. The game was a tie so the teams shared the trophy. #OurHistoryOurStories #TheNanaProject #Ghana #GhanaHistory #GhanaianHistory #Nigeria #NigerianHistory #Football #FootballHistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CF0AHUdpYRD/?igshid=14yhjfratzwa2

Sub-Saharan Africa 116 years ago today: Pacification of Northern Nigeria (05 Feb 1903) https://buff.ly/2RCSEBu The 1899 Anglo-French agreement assigned Northern Nigeria to the British, even though the region was almost entirely dominated by independent African states. Although the British managed to persuade many of these states to accept protection, some, including the great Sokoto Caliphate, resisted. In early 1903 the British invaded Sokoto, cementing their control in Northern Nigeria. #subsaharanafrica #history #welovemaps #map #1900s #1903 #africa #africanhistory #algeriansahara #dervishstate #sokotocaliphate #february #february5 #frenchempire #britishempire #nigerianhistory #northernnigeria #sokoto #fulani #maps #scrambleforafrica #colonialism #todayinhistory #historytoday #historyteacher #historybuff #historygeek #historynerd #omniatlas #imperialism (at Sokoto) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtfYpKdgpNs/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=kltjdy31shse

The Kano Emirate is a traditional state in Northern Nigeria with headquarters in the city of Kano, capital of the modern Kano State. Preceded by the Emirate of Kano the Council was formed in 1903 after the British pacification of the Sokoto Caliphate. Ado Bayero became the emir in 1963, reigning for 50 years until his death in 2014, he oversaw the transformation of the Emirate under Nigeria's federal constitution that subjects Northern Nigeria's Emirates to political leaders. The emir of Kano serves as the leader of the Tijaniyya sufi order in Nigeria, historically the second most important Muslim position in Nigeria after the Sultan of Sokoto who is the leader of the more populous Qadiriyya sufi order in Nigeria. On 8 June 2014, former Nigerian central banker Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was selected to succeed Bayero as Emir of Kano.British forces captured Kano in 1903. The 7th emir of Kano, who was in Sokoto when Kano was occupied, was captured and exiled to Lokoja where he died in 1926. The British immediately made Kano an important administrative centre in Northern Nigeria. The role of the Kano Emirate steadily grew in the new Northern Nigeria. In the 1940s administrative re-organisation restored the consultative status of the ancient Taran Kano or council of Nine, this receded the status of the Emir as the Sole Native Administrator and instead made him the head of a Native Authority. Also in the 1940s Northern Nigerian agitation for independence from the South led to a national re-organisation that made Nigeria a Federation of Independent and autonomous regions Kano became the fulcrum of a new Northern political class that emerged to fight against perceived southern influence/ In 1950 the Northern Elements Progressive Union emerged in Kano as the first political party in Northern Nigeria, it was swiftly followed by the emergence of the Northern People's Congress and other smaller political parties. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Biafra war. From January 4-5, 1967, delegates from the Federal Government of Nigeria and Eastern Nigeria held conference at Aburi, Ghana, creating the Aburi Accord. The meeting was held to prevent a civil war in Nigeria. However, the Accord broke down and the Nigerian civil war, also known as the Biafra war, began on July 6, 1967. It ended on January 15, 1970. Pictured above are General Joseph Ankrah, Ghana's head of state, General Yakubu Gowan, Nigeria's head of state, and Chukwuemeka Odemegwu Ojukwu, military governor of Nigeria's Eastern Region and Head of State of Biafra during the Aburi Accord meeting.
