          with a fresh fallen blanket of silver covering the forest floor she had stumbled through the dense wood to her secluded cave that she used mostly once a year . breathing was heavy as she moved . she’d been hiding away , far from her wolves , for a little over a week now . just halfway done with this . she thought to herself as bare feet met with cool stone . hand was pressed against the wall as she slid down to crawl the rest of the way to a makeshift nesting area ( compiled of wheat and straw and cloth as well as deer hide ) .

          to her side she fell , curling in on herself and feeling the cool night air against burning flesh . her panting had increased , glazed eyes watching the wall vacantly . tail was curled up between bent legs while hair fanned around her in her collapse . she loathed this time --- the season combined with the heat . her wolves growing frantic as mating rituals began . pups that didn’t know better with it being their first would try for her but quickly they would be sent yelping with tails between their legs . thus some decades ago she decided to just spend the season ( and the heat mostly ) in isolation .

PERSONALITY:

Melanie has a very soft personality. Decades of abuse broke her down to a more closed character. Careful, shy, introverted and quiet. She likes to be by herself, and doesn't like confrontation. Sometimes she even hides for a while if she finds herself in a stressful situation. It's hard to get to know her as she is afraid to open up to new people, but once you get to know her, you will see she is a loving and caring individual. Even after switching home, her emotional baggage inflicts her daily life every now and then, leaving a veil of sadness around her.

BACKSTORY:

Melanie was born as a vampire with no fangs. She has a noble background, as her relatives and ancestors were powerful and respected within the community. Her mother, Kathrina, is a pure-blood from this family, while her father, Tobias, is a transformed with unknown roots. They fell in love and married one day without Kathrina's family's support.

One night in winter, when Melanie was a child, an angry mob of humans attacked their home. During the commotion, both her parents got poisoned by aspen wood, weakening them. They made Melanie turn into a bat and save herself, while them, being unable to do the same due to the poison, stayed behind. Both of them were killed and their house burnt down that night.

The next day, Melanie was found by a pair of magical beings, and she was soon transferred to live with her relatives; Demelza Van Dale (Kathrina's sister), her husband Barselius, and their children Heloise and Cedric. For the next century, Melanie was taunted and abused by her relatives; broken down to an emotional wretch while she was grieving over her loss and suffering over her guilt. They mostly picked on her for her lack of fangs, her father being a transformed or, mainly in Demelza's case, blaming her for her sister's death. Along with the verbal abuse, they also forced her to do chores and other dirty tasks, or physically hurt her and scare her. She would often be punished for the tiniest things (sometimes she was framed by her cousins), and punishments often involved beating with an aspen stick, which left scars despite a vampire's healing properties, or locking her up inside for longer periods of time.

One day, she finally managed to escape her abusers; running away in to the unknown. The next day she was found under a rock by a kind, old man who handed her an umbrella to shield her from the sun and offered her to swing by his home. This man introduced himself as Dr Philysium. Later on, Melanie chooses to head in the same direction as the man went, where she finds Everwynch Manor, which later becomes her new home.

SOME EXTRA FACTS:

The brooch Melanie is wearing was given to her the night her parents died. It's a portrait of her mother.

The dagger came later to her as a heirloom. She uses it to puncture her prey before feeding of them as her lack of fangs makes it too messy to feed without tools.

She has scars up her wrists by her abusers.

Every now and then, memories of the night she lost everything will flood back to her and she will break down and cry.

Melanie likes spending time in the manor's green house and garden as she loves tending her plants and has a fascination over the healing properties some of them have.

Other things she does in her down time is hunting for blood; mostly deer. They also keep rabbits. She doesn't drink human blood anymore.

She also enjoys poetry, and she loves the taste of chocolate and other sweet things as well as warm and safe places.

SOME RELEVANT VAMPIRE FACTS:

They burn under the sun.

They have no reflection unless it’s an enchanted mirror, which are rare and expensive.

Fangs, pale skin, blood red eyes and pointy ears.

They prefer human blood, and the more similar the creature is to a human, the more satisfying the blood is for them. They tend to need more animal blood to get the same satisfaction as a certain amount of human blood. Blood from magical beings is toxic for most.

A vampire needs to feed once to twice a week, depending on what type of blood they consume. Animal blood needs to be consumed more frequently than human blood.

They can eat food for pleasure, but in limited quantities.

They heal quicker, have better agility and sharper senses than humans.

Vampires die by a stake to their heart. A wound caused by a wooden object can be healed. Aspen is the wood type that is the most damaging on them and slows the healing process and can even leave scars.

Silver is also harmful for vampires.

They are immortal and ages very slowly.

All vampires can turn into bats.

Only a very few vampires have special abilities. These include: Transforming into any creature, hypnosis, levitation and digesting magic-induces blood.

Humans that survive a vampire bite will be turned into a vampire.

Some vampires live close to human residents or among humans as an easy access to blood. Some use disguise charms to blend in better, but they tend to be quite pricey. Others keeps humans as prisoners for blood supply and servants; so called "Blood Slaves". This is the most preferred method of food storage, but it's rarely seen among newly transformed vampires.

There is a vampire council that keeps track on every vampire members. They get notified whenever a new vampire is created by using spells borrowed by witches. Their job is to help integrate new vampires in to the society, be the voice for the vampires in the magical community, and keep a mutual relationship with other magical beings.

Vampire women wear these forehead accessories as a means of fashion. Knee-high skirts are worn by vampires younger than 300 years.

Vampire born people are more noble and respected than those who are transformed. They're considered "pure blood".
