Magnus Archives had that slight hiss of tape. a familiar sensation frm days long past of taping music off the radio, or copying cassette to cassete to make the pert mixtape

now Protocol kicks it off with another forgotten noise. That very specific sound of an old beige-monstrosity PC booting up, complete with the lil driver checks beeps. My mind's eye [ha] can straight up see black screen runnin Memory numbers & the floppy-drive light blink

and swear to fuck, there is a dot matrix printer noise in there too

anyways, all the wonderful fanartists creating a flood of awesome new images - plz remember to add shit to the monitor! you do not get to be stuck in an office staring at this beige block for hours and days w/out starting to decorate it. A joke sticker in the corners, or tiny lil figs/keychains on the very top (those fuckers are wide enuff to support something as big as a small plush sitting up there!)

bonus points if the plush is the dumbest dumb goof evah! (the bug says Y2K on it, it made crashing noises)

anyway, yes, clutter that shit up!! Boxes of floppies (MAC or PC format), spindles of CDs, loose labels (for the disks), post-it notes stuck around monitor if cannot stickers. Bonus points for an ancient AOL CD (or similar junk soft) used as a coaster

I cannot emphasize how much real estate there is on those things for stuff!

i think one of the main reasons i love zach and jess as a duo so much, in addition to their sheer genius as improvisers of course, is how they can make the dynamics between their characters so natural. obviously that comes from years of doing improv together but no matter the pairing, they make it believable — whether they're playing parents, siblings, a married couple, friends of any gender combination, parent and child, teenagers in love, rivals, or literally anything else. the chemistry between their characters is always just right

You ever stumble across a quote and it just feels So X Character you just to take moment?

I was looking for a specific thing for a Seb related post and stumbled into Dylan Thomas' Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night - I knew the poem already but reading it with Seb/NSP hat on the classic quote from it just feels so very Sebastian

"Do not go gentle into that good night, Rage rage against the dying of the light"

To be so angry at something so accepted and inevitable, to reject it so completely as to literally attempt to fight/evade death just feels very Sebastian

I mean we literally see him go 'nope not today, these people don't die here' in the finale but also there's the night of the Harmony fire with Joey. And I'm willing to bet in his backstory there's probably been moments where he has come close to death and had to fight to remain topside (but a tiny dark part of me thinks maybe he knowingly or was so intentionally reckless as to the result of his actions that he pushed himself to those edge of life limits in the past)

I've been curious before when I've seen you use this tag, but your year in review post made me want to ask: what is perpetual perpetual ladies night?

"Perpetual perpetual ladies night" is an idea that Kat @clonerightsagenda came up with, around the same time we started planning Podcast Girls Week. It came out of discord discussions about the centrality of men in fandom attention, both in specific (we were both big into Wolf 359 fandom, and saw the vast disparities of attention the male characters got vs. the women, and when we tried to talk about Minkowski or Hera or Lovelace or Maxwell, the conversation tended to dry up fast - in one notable instance, someone on discord shifting a conversation about Maxwell to be about Kepler and Jacobi instead, complaining that it was just too hard to talk about the women without talking about the men) and the general (how often do you see joke posts about your blorbos, about characters that live rent-free in your mind, about how everyone chooses a sopping wet pathetic war criminal to obsess over - and how often do you see those posts explicitly assume it's a man?) The idea was to give the same kind of unhinged attention and in-depth headcanons and silly jokes to the women characters too. Such posts centering on female characters (in more depth than "I love her" or "she has the one braincell of the team") go in the tag.

At that time it was "perpetual ladies night 2k22," a play on the idea of Girls Night. What if we want every night to be girls night??? Every day is Boys Night in fandom, after all. Then 2023 rolled around and we wanted to keep doing it, so Kat switched it from "perpetual ladies night 2k22" to "perpetual perpetual ladies night."

At its core, it's a personal challenge to blog about female characters when doing Fandom Blogging. A challenge to lavish fannish attention on women. And a way to keep them all in one tag so there are lots of Posts About Women to easily find and highlight.

Using "perpetual perpetual ladies night" as a framework of thinking about tumblr engagement helps me, personally - the other day, when I was musing about Odysseus's feelings on the Trojan War, it kind of prompted me to think, damn, have I ever considered how Penelope felt about the inciting incident of the Trojan War??? And a follow-up perpetual perpetual ladies night post was made, and it challenged me to wonder about things that were suddenly equally interesting to me!

All in all: it's kind of a statement and kind of a game. And I entirely encourage anyone who wants to join in!

Cory "Diamond" Blythe - has only the power of anime, glitter and vodka on their side. basically made a deal with this world's equivalent of "rumpelstiltskin" (but not really) and regrets life choices.

Luka Stormme - guy with anger issues becomes vigilante during business days after a couple boxing classes. is the "soccer-mom" to his cousins and his friends when he's not fighting crime

Cass Holborn - dropout with a bunch of explosive chemicals in his garage builds underworld empire while successfully failing, but somehow managing, to raise sister

Nydia Tainnen - unstable ballerina with severe childhood trauma decides to become an assassin and give a middle finger to the government

Matthias Harke - runaway tries to keep his friends out of trouble when they decide to mess with the worst people possible, ends up having to take the lead.

Samantha Holborn - troublemaking teen who never learned the meaning of "none of your business" and had too much free time sneaks somewhere she should not be and causes chaos

Jym Callister - over-caffeinated insomniac takes up computer hacking as a way to avoid his problems and just be a menace

Alexey Morikov - cat parent who only wanted to mind his own business and read must get back into the fray after a bunch of unsupervised teens bring the problems he'd successfully been avoiding now knocking on his door

Killien Lux - government experiment and supersoldier develops sentience and starts developing free will while making it everybody's problem. is also a knife

Keilly Phaedre - is the Only Remaining Braincell tm of the team and is completely done with life
