I usually only post stylings and leave the talking to the tags, but I needed to get this out.

I'm so discouraged by the game here lately. I've contacted support several times about the crashes. I tried to make my entry this weekend 5 times and I never even got to the submit button. It was crashing mid styling. Sometimes before I even got to the sticker screen. My device is within their "requirements" for fluid game play. When I proved this to customer support they straight up went "oh we'lllet devs know of this issue" because they didn't have an counter argument against my device or its active storage at all.

My enjoyment in this game is dependent on me actually using the items I acquire. I'm not here for scores, I'm not here for competitive play, I'm here to make pretty pictures. And when I can't even make a casual styling outside of any competition entry or anything without the game crashing halfway through my efforts. What's the point of playing anymore?

gonna ramble but-- infinite painter ($10) and artstudio pro ($10/yr or $40 for life) are so much better than procreate (~$13). if their UIs were as intuitive as procreate's, im p sure they'd be more popular. that's honestly the only thing procreate has on the other 2 - it's not feature-rich, but v/ lightweight and easy to pick up. idk, it's kind of a shame.

i've always struggled with procreate - no matter how i mess with the settings, no matter what brushes i try out, the brush engine still feels incredibly stiff. but when i doodle in ip or artstudio it almost feels like i'm back on my desktop with csp, where i'm most comfortable. it's sad, man. procreate makes everything so crunchy when you resize it. it has restrictive layer limitations depending on your canvas size. i was doing a 3kx3k in IIRC IP the other day and the layer cap was like 100+ LMFAO. idk! i have immense respect for procreate and how it's made art more accessible to tons of artists (--once you buy an ipad ☝🤓), but if you can, give the other apps a shot. idr but im p sure they have free demos. artstudio pro's UI isn't the most mobile-friendly but i enjoy drawing on it wayy wayya ywyaywyYWYAYYY more.

I have two types of things I do with AI.

The first is Exploration. This is what my raw AI is; I don’t sell raw pieces or put them in my work generally until I have done some work to make it “mine.” Frequently I am just exploring the latent space of a particular model. I call raw works “explorations.” A big thing is the feeling that the things I’m prompting actually exist in the latent space, including entire zeitgeists. When I use AI as part of a serious work or for sale, it’s part of a bigger creative pipeline - and the place it fills is NOT the last 50% of the pipeline, but roughly the middle 25%. Because what it largely replaces in my work is stock - though now that I have access to vintage style illustrative images, it’s given me that to work with too. There is no piece going into my TTRPG or that I use in my creative works that hasn’t either gotten significant doctoring by the time it’s a final product, or very very significant personal input other than a simple Stable Diffusion or Midjourney prompt (I am doing quite a lot with a custom GPT fed on 100s of pages of descriptions and story notes, and feel considerable ownership over this art - but I feel it as a creative director/person who wanted to be a filmmaker but didn’t get to be one, and not as a visual artist creating individual bespoke works.) I’m aware of the legal IP issues with AI and the fact that raw generations are in a legally murky area. (This is even MORE true with music which is why I don’t plan to charge for music made with AI. I literally largely make music for fun and to have rights-unrestricted material for my projects, and dealing with the hassle a dedicated pro would deal with, isn’t worth it to me.) The situation with AI works being public domain, would actually create a problem for me to go public with raw AI work in my original-universe creations because it may compromise my IPs. I’ve seen too many cases where an artist/merchandiser couldn’t defend their IP against a corporate thief because they had used stock or public domain imagery that they didn’t sufficiently transform. but as a graphic designer who already worked with stock and other sourced imagery, I’m already aware of this problem with AI. This issue is old hat to graphic designers, and most of us in our actual working life used sourced material (whether it’s stock/public domain/the work of an individual artist who has been paid for that work).

Keeper of Yggdrasil

I have a lot of Thoughts about the Loki series as a whole BUT the visual of Yggdrasil and the timelines was absolutely stunning, so I knew I had to do a rendition of it with a new costume. I loved the idea of Loki physically becoming part of the Tree, with all the branches washing over him like veins, obscuring old pieces of armour and melding with his true Jotun form. (and of course I had to do a glowy eyes version!)

-You met at a bar when your friend cancelled on you last minute, she offered to buy you a drink and you chatted at the bar until she invited you back to hers, this was back when you were 22 and she was 25 so her flat was more modest but still well decorated and clean. You both shared a bottle of wine and sat and spoke more for hours until you were both so drunk you started doing karaoke together by watching youtube videos on her TV, she invited you out to an actual karaoke bar as your second date and she only fell even more in love with you the more she saw you.

-I think she would work in corporate like a lawyer or investment banker or something so I think she would try and work from home as much as they would let her.

-She looks so funny when she works from home too because she wears work clothes on her top half for her zoom calls but then she would be wearing pj bottoms and her slippers on her bottom half.

-Such a victim of Apple's marketing, always insists she needs the newest phone or whatever they had brought out, she has the watch, the phone, an ipad, an imac, macbook pro, airpod pros and airpod max's. Literally everything they sell because she's actually a tech geek at heart.

"I totally need it."

"Give me one reason you need an iPad Abigail."

"...I don't know, it's just cool."

You roll your eyes at her but chuckle at her insistence as you press a small kiss to her pouty lips. She smiles at you and looks like a child on Christmas day as she orders her new toy.

-She would so wear the airpod max's while working out and i think she'd always have one of those gallon water bottles that she'd take everywhere with her.

"Babe please just let me buy you one, trust me it will make you drink so much more water."

"No it won't, do not waste your money seriously." She'd huff at your stubbornness and go and buy you one anyway.

-I think she would workout at night or during the day if she can fit it in which rarely happens because she enjoys her mornings with you where you guys cuddle and chat and have breakfast together before she goes to work or gets started in the home office

-Does majority of the cooking because she really enjoys it and is also a chef, like she whips up three course meals so regularly like its nothing.

-You try and make dinner together on the weekends which equates to her micromanaging you until she gets too stressed watching you mess up and does it herself while you sit on the counter entertaining her.

-She always goes to sleep as big spoon and always wakes up as little spoon, every night, without failure. Also loves to lay on your stomach with her arms around your waist, one of her fav cuddling positions.

-She's the kind of person to ignore and persevere through a cold until she literally passes out and will get mad at you when you have to force her to rest but once she's comfy and has accepted she's ill she's such a baby.

-She would be so good with kids and they would all love her too like when you would go to family gatherings together all the kids would always be glued to her pulling her every which way

-loves dogs and cats and wants two of each

-loves home date nights where you cook together and watch films or play games whether its board, video or card games. Once you bought a fake police file and tried to figure out who the murderer was, it ended in a huge argument because you couldn't agree on who it was, you were so annoyed you made her sleep on the sofa but in the middle of night she sauntered back into your room and climbs into bed cuddling into you.

"Sorry babe, you were right." She kisses your forehead and you smile as you both go to sleep happily, Abby had managed to find the answer online but she didn't tell you that you were in fact wrong, she would rather be in bed cuddling you than prove she was right.

-I think she would want 3 kids, preferably boy, girl, boy or vice versa but she would be happy with any kids.

-If/when kids come along she starts working from home primarily and you watch them grow together.

-She would eventually want to move away from the city where she lived for an easy commute to work to a beautiful house in the country with large fields behind a huge back garden where the dogs and cats, and ducks all play with the kids.

-She would love reading crime thriller books but she also has a guilty pleasure for romance and sometimes she'll sit in bed with you and read you parts of the books. Can imagine older Abby refusing to get reading glasses because that makes her officially old but she’s literally holding the book as far as it will go and squinting so hard and she still can’t read it, you eventually give in and read it to her which only motivates her to not get glasses more because this was a way better option.

-Loves Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, all those kind of shows but if you put on a drama she'll grumble and then be hooked.

"Oh my god, oh my god, are you fucking kidding me? Noooooooo." Abby yells at the screen as she watches the season 1 finale of vampire diaries with you, you had started rewatching it as it was nostalgic and she made fun of you so much until you forced her to watch the episode you were watching.

Like I could so see her watching greys anatomy and sobbing when there's a major character death

-Goes to get mani pedis with you and she'll always get her nails painted to match the colour of yours even when you'd pick super bright to mess with her she'd get it without batting an eye.

-Of course she gets along super well with all your friends and family, sometimes you think they love her more than you 😀

Leona loves his sleep. It's a known fact that he almost loves sleep more than he loves his wife.

Almost. He certainly loves her enough for-

"Dada!"

There she is. Leona has...conflicted feelings about being a father. His wife wanted a cub, so they had a cub. He wanted to continue his legacy anyway...but Seven, he's struggling.

It was fine at first - mildly unnerving, but fine. You were struggling, and he hated it. But you wanted Melody so badly. He can't ignore the adrenaline rush he felt when he first felt his cub kicking; or the jolts of joy whenever he held you, arms around you and holding your belly.

But now that she's here?

She's beautiful. She's everything he never thought he could love that he would live for. He'd die for her to but dying is just sleep to him...and sleep is easy. It's numb and comfortable. But living? Waking from bliss to feed his tiny mewling cub as she wails, face red and tiny fists shaking is hard. Giving up some of his late nights out, facing the embarrassment of her sobbing at royal functions; all those judging eyes watching?

Yeah. That's rough.

Really rough.

Today's rough too - He only just got back from another Spelldrive practice, and now that hes a pro, his energy has to be up to play!

But duty calls.

"DADA!"

"Oi, don't shout at baba," He grumbles weakly, "It's late, nugget."

"I want hair." She huffs. For a second his heart stirs. She has your eyes.

"You have hair. See? It's right here." He tapped her head...and it started again. The instant panic because what if his nails are too sharp? What if he hurt her?

He represses the urge to throw up when remembering the feeling of his own parent's claws raking over his eye.

"No dada. Your hair. Pretty!"

"My hair? Baby, what-" He is cut off by a sharp tug on his hair.

Oh.

"You want locs?" It's more of a surprised gruff squeak than anything else. "You want your hair to look like mine?"

"Yes!" She squeals excitedly, hopping on the bed with him. "Hair like yours!"

Shit. Shit, he doesn't do his own hair! He's a prince, he has a stylist-

"Dada?"

Damn it...look at that sweet face. Funny, he didn't realize Melody had his grumpy face.

"Alright, come here grumpy cat." He quickly grabbed his phone. "Kifaji? Yeah...bring me all that hair stuff my stylist uses and my tablet stand."

As Leona works diligently, he silently notes to raise his stylists salary.

Melody is squirmy after a while...but luckily his baby girl is just as nerdy as him. Nothing a chess tournament on TV can't fix. Besides, hes a good multitasker! He watches the how-to video on his Ipad while carefully doing his precious cub's hair and violently judging the shitty chess plays.

How many more clips does he need? This kid has a lot more hair than he thought...

"Almost done?"

"Almost baby." He grumbles, trying to pick up the clip he dropped.

Sevens, his hands are sore! Twisting Melody's hair lovingly yet firmly, he feels that familiar bubble of annoyance. Why can't the royal stylist just do this instead?

Stop it, Leona. He thinks bitterly. Be the dad you wanted. Suck up being tired! You overblotted and still played spelldrive after! This is for your cub!

But it's been over an hour. And he is so, so tired. And he has practice tomorrow.

And his baby girl wants to be just like him.

He tries to ignore the weird feeling in his throat he gets when those doubts creep in again.

Come on man. Just a bit longer.

Almost two hours later, he's done. He's oddly proud of himself. And his reward?

He gets to go deaf!

Melody is squealing in glee now, running around with her tiny mirror.

"I look just like dada!" The tired dad hears her screaming down the hall. It's making him feel oddly smug, too. He actually did it.

Finally, he can reap his rewards. Snuggled tightly into his bed and using your maternity pillow he stole , he can finally sleep.

"DADA I WANNA PLAY DOLLS!"

...but for his baby girl, maybe sleep can wait until tomorrow.

what kind of app do you use?? sorry if it's been asked before! i'm new so.. also, if you don't mind recommending a drawing tablet? thank you !! also i love your art sm, it makes my heart burst 😭💙

I still use SAI, as for other programs I haven't used them but I heard Krita and Ibis Paint can be good as free(?) options, if u want something more modern/with a lot of options there's CSP, there's something about it that just doesn't click for me but a lot of ppl use it and if ur planning on getting an ipad for any reason there's always procreate

as for tablets any small/medium tablet you can get for 100€ or less can be good for starting out, personally I recommend wacoms, they perform well on their cheaper models as well, for other brands you have to go on their more expensive models to get the same performance (just in my experience)

I currently use the Huion Kamvas pro 16 and I've been using it for years so I got no other recs but I wouldn't get something too expensive as first tablet, hope that helps!
