thinking about the mlm and transmasc rep situation again and i think the thing that gets me about it is how exceedingly easy and completely inconsequential it would be for a single writer to just sprinkle in a bit of rep. like a bulk of the queer rep we already have is via random npc dialogue out in city maps or festivals or something and is not even voice acted. you literally have to change NOTHING and dont even need to pay for extra voice lines to just change a single pronoun or word in some npc's pop-up text from "girlfriend" to "boyfriend". this is not a replacement for centered, featured representation with actually memorable chararacters played by queer actors or so on, but it'd be SOMETHING and it's amazing in a sad way that we have like actually nothing right now

Clove Lane Residential Rental

OK so finally finished 😅 I mean... I could go on fiddling forever with this lot but hey, I'm happy enough with the result. A residential block in San Myshuno with an art gallery and center, a bar, a Tomarani eatery, a cafeteria, a café, a community greenhouse, a kid's play area, and a little marketplace for your Sims to make some extra cash. Oh, and a spa. 6 rental units, 5 apartments with 2 bedrooms and one bath each, unfurnished except for the bathroom and kitchen, and a townhouse, unfurnished. Download and more info under the cut.

To make the "community" venues functional you can use either the Auto Employee mod by @littlemssam or this mod by @down-in-simsland, both work great, it's up to your preference. Littlemssam's is more flexible, you can allow or disallow the NPCs as you wish, and it gives you the option to hire massage therapists and a busker (and a caterer since the apartments have a stove and a fridge, haven't tested it but if your Sim hates cooking why not?). On the other hand DISL's is specifically designed for residential rentals and will bring more Sims to your lot, and the NPCs work on a realistic schedule. And if you don't like using mods you can still hire any NPC for 100$ (I haven't tested if this mod works on residential lots).

Conversely you could add a venue to a residential unit and use Littlemssam's Live in Business mod.

I know, so many options LOL!

The art gallery includes the Street Gallery item for your painter Sims to sell their work, and the room in the back is a little community art center with an easel and a woodworking table. Sims with the wellness skill can also earn money by giving massages at the spa (I tried giving a yoga class but nobody showed up but I guess it works if your Sim invited a few people over?) There's also a sales table and a HCH food stand in the outdoor area at the back, and a greenhouse with a flower arrangement table, tough I can't promise your neighbor won't steal your crops...

I think that's about it. Oh, disclaimer: Sims are dumb, they'll order food at the diner and eat it in the bar, or if they have the neat trait they might want to clean all the dishes on the lot 🤷🏼‍♂️ I recommend disabling autonomy, but still, that's how it is... also the lot and unit names won't "stick", hope that get fixed at some point.

The lot costs 230.916$ and is 30x30, I placed it on the Waterside Warble lot, but the Old Salt House lot is the same size.

I think I must have used items from every single pack out there, and remember to enable MOO before placing. Have fun!

the wallaru zeke quest i midnight oil - a slurry of plant-life and dream water, used in place of coffee.... the YW definitely is the Midnight Oil addict (caffeine addict yknow??) - they run on stress and Midnight Oil lol

i hate the sounds that the dingos make when we defeat them ):

Krokodile dundara tries to fight his own battles but the YW steps in... dundara kinda reminds me of moo bo (moo bu?) in that he comments on the wiz's uhhh.... battle-readiness

anyway it seems like the wiz has some pent up aggression that they're looking to burn off with battles

the kangaroo bushwhackers comment on how the YW takes their battle v seriously.... so no holding back on the YW's part

I think it'd be cool if we get to see our companions do some of the mob fights?

Thoughts on What Lies Within, not really gonna be careful about spoilers so cut:

TL;DR: I am whelmed.

The bad stuff first:

I tried not to expect too much in the way of the Commander Has Trauma Arc but I'm still disappointed the recollector just worked exactly as planned. And needing to grab more energy on the fly is not really a setback when it was immediately solved. I did think we would get a fair amount of NPC stuff instead but I didn't think it'd be to this extent in the final instance compared to how much we got of Commander. If they try to go back on this and do a whole "it didn't ACTUALLY work", my immediate reaction will be "that's an asspull" since that's the sort of thing I'd hope would get some kind of foreshadowing somewhere (unless I missed text somewhere).

Gameplay wise, the mini events are new and immediately overused after the first two times and felt very FFXIV-y which is not good to me. Felt like there was too much busywork before the big instance too compared to past releases but maybe I was annoyed because I wanted to get to the big stuff faster. I was lucky the mini events didn't bug for me but the crate one bugged for my partner and I could see all the random shit other people brought Chul-Moo.

I wonder if this will be an unpopular opinion but the final boss didn't feel like a GW2 story boss at all. I understand a lot of the previous instances of major story releases are regarded as too difficult by some but this felt like an extreme over correction in difficulty. Zero urgency compared to What Lies Beneath, huge AOE telegraphs, rinse and repeat phases.

Ok, the good stuff:

The memorials and memory steps were so good. I predictably picked Vlast and Blish but I was very tempted to choose Cinder. She was a surprising option to be included but thinking about it, she was as much of a "sacrificed/out of my control" death as Vlast and Blish. And I'm curious what the Aurene one would look like.

Voice acting was top notch as always and always the best part. I actually did enjoy the dialogue throughout the chapter.

And tiny Gorrik! And actually seeing Trahearne!

AND THE TRIPLE DATE. Yes I picked Canach, though for Luci he's like a brother, and he was great as always. And Taimi and Gorrik???? I'm happy for them.

Also Commander just literally yeeting the glass and then "oops clumsy me", perfection.

I think forcing commander to relax a bit was a great end to all that. I hope we'll start seeing more of Commander in social and casual situations with their friends. It would be nice if it was like. Dragon's Watch making an effort to invite Commander to relax with them, especially if everyone hears about the events of What Lies Beneath/Within.

Also I haven't done the new parts of the meta yet but I did enjoy THE TUNNEL in the story instance. There was a lot more verticality in it than I expected. I don't know if my thoughts on this will change once I do the meta tomorrow.

So, again, I am just kinda whelmed. I did enjoy the story! And I think it ended on a good note. But boy there are things I wish they'd done a little differently.

I finished EoD last night. My computer overheated in the last couple minutes of the DE meta, so I didn’t get the achieve or the reward for the hours I spent there, but whatever. The story was good. Really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to catching up so I’m prepared for the next expansion, but also need to spend time getting my griffon masteries up so I can play around Echovald -- gorgeous gorgeous maps in this game. But I need Anet to give me more male characters. They’ve long had a preference for female characters but it was especially obvious in EoD. We had: Gorrik, Rama, Canach (briefly), and Minister Li, then at the very end: Chul Moo and Captain Fa (delights both, I love them but you don’t even get an option to talk to Fa in the end). In contrast, the ladies were: Marjory, Kasmeer, Caithe, Taimi, Aurene, Sayida, Ankka, Mai Trin, Soo Won, Joon, Navan, Min, Tetra, Ayumi, the Empress (brief but a figurehead), and a whole host of others. Logan got a few minutes of screentime at the end and was the only one shown to be injured. In the epilogue, Min made a point of mentioning how the ministry was mostly run by men and how it’s a change to have a woman in power -- when the majority of the main cast and NPCs were all female.  Please give me more male toons. Yes, yes, we get female empowerment, and it was nice seeing them fill in roles of Villain too, but it’s time we have equal representation, no? Give me more men. Especially good male characters. Icebrood saw more male characters but they were almost entirely villains, antagonists and assholes if they had been allied, and subsequently killed or pushed aside for the female characters to take their places. All of the Legions are headed by women; Laranthir was shoehorned out to make room for Jhavi, whom I loathe; Smodor hadn’t been an asshole until Icebroaod? I’ve got my fingers crossed for SotO that we’ll see more guys but I am not holding my breath.
