facts
honey is the youngest of six kids, and she is the youngest by 22 years. yes, they all have equally uncommon names you’d expect her hippie of a mother to pick. she is most definitely an uh oh baby. not meant to happen, but was conceived during a reunion between her parents.
her mom is the best woman she’s ever known. born in a small town in Tennessee, once she met honey’s father while at a music festival with her girlfriends, she moved across the country to be with him. but her father always had a tendency to indulge in vices, causing him to live the last thirty years in and out of prison.
so honey grew up on the farm with her mother and her paternal grandparents. they embraced her mother with open arms, aware of the trouble their son brought, along with their handful of grandchildren. while honey was born after many of her siblings moved out on their own, she was told by her grandfather that she suited the farm the most. the girl enjoyed waking up early to say hello to the animals as she fed them, it was the time she could decompress and be with her thoughts.
honey was homeschooled for most of her life. it was just easier. she wasn’t necessarily close to any public school so she was taught the basics by her Nana before enrolling in online homeschool programs when she entered third grade
broadripple wasn’t necessarily a place honey ever expected to end up. but when her father was released from prison and her mother took him back again, the blonde knew she waned to get away from the farm. she was informed of broadripple by her grandmother and applied for the scholarship program. when she was accepted it was a no brainer. she would much rather be in new england in some bougie school then living on the farm, forced to watch her father treat her mother like he always did. like she wasn’t the most incredibly women in the world.
headcanons
growing up surrounded by animals, it’s no surprise that honey sought out a career working with them. originally she thought the lines of a veterinarian, or a zoologist. but something about marine animals really intrigued her and since she was nine decided she was going to be a marine biologist.
honey isn’t an activist per se. she’s not going out and starting revolutions or leading marches, no. but she is very passionate about her beliefs and will attend a protest or a march if she’s in the area.
she cares very deeply about the earth and will have no problem going off on a tangent about how we need to care for it and stop killing it while drunk at a party.
vegan. not the kind that talks down to people who eat meat, but she just refuses. her decision to become a vegan began when she realized where all the animals she had become fond of on her farm were disappearing to, and after that she swore of any meat or animal products of any kind.
she has a pet cow named beatrice. her grandparents woke her up in the wee hours of the morning when she was ten to witness one of the cows give birth in the barn. and when the calf was born, they allowed her to name it. when her family told her it was time to sent beatrice to slaughter, honey slept in the barn to make sure no one touched her baby. honey won the argument and beatrice is the only cow on the farm that is going to die of natural causes.
honey can be awkward at times, but more often then not it’s just because she can’t read social cues. she is observant of the people around her, but since most of the people she was exposed to growing up was family, she has a hard time reading people and generally just takes what they say for face value.
is most definitely a little hippie child just like her mother and often spends summer break road tripping across the country from music festival to music festival.
there have been people in her past that think she’s an idiot, because she has a tendency to give off a very chill vibe by default and also homeschool, but honey is very smart. she applies herself and enjoys learning. it’s the homework she doesn’t enjoy.
can make the best peach lemonade. just try her. also learned some southern cookin from her mama and has been able to adapt most of what she’s learned to fit her diet.
she was gifted a small cow plushie from her mother before attending broadripple, to just be reminded of home. she doesn’t sleep with it, seriously she doesn't, she just feels bad if it ends up on the floor so it has to be tucked under her arm at night to make sure that doesn’t happen.
religion was never something pressed on honey growing up, her mother wanted her children to find their own way and belief system. so if honey had to pick a label she’d say she agnostic, but she definitely DOES NOT get behind the catholic church and all their problematic behavior so the religious aspect of broadripple is something she struggles with on the daily.
shockingly doesn't reek of weed even though she is most definitely an active stoner.
also girl loves a baseball hat. while she most always has her hair braided in some way shape or form, if she’s rocking a side braid she’s got a hat on that head of hers.
questions about the retreat
what do they think about the retreat?
honey is all aboard. she grew up on a farm for goodness sake, so the idea of being out in the woods in some cabins is like a dream come true. she’s not sure how long this will go on, so she’s not trying to get her hopes up, but the idea of spending the summer in the cabin’s is comforting to her.
do they have any previous experience with camping or other outdoors?
yes! honey has gone camping many a time growing up. whether that was just with her mother or with the rest of her siblings as a form of bonding, she has spent many nights under the stars. she also just goes to national parks in her free time to hike so ya know she’s a very outdoorsy person
what does their cabin bunk look like? how will they decorate their space?
honey wanted the bunk to look as cozy as possible. so she has some of her favorite potted plants around her, along with her record player and the small collection of records she can’t live without. there is a tapestry full of warm hues push pined to the ceiling and numerous pictures of her family taped to the wall. there is a rolled up yoga mat against the bunk and she also brought the handmade quilt she nana gave her when she was little and she often snuggles with it.
do they believe in the supernatural? to what degree?
definitely. she lives out in the middle of nowhere and has heard many a strange noise in the middle of the night. she’s pretty positive things like vampires and werewolves don’t exist, potentially could be swayed to acknowledge wendigos, but it’s really ghost, ghouls and spirits that she fully believes in. also she finds the whole big foot/sasquatch thing super interesting and has watched like every show about it
are they easily spooked?
not really. honey is pretty chill and also is usually some level of stoned so if something spooky happens, she’ll probably just smile and chuckle. unless she got some bad strain and is paranoid because then she’ll be on edge and much more likely to be spooked.
and finally,
you will sacrifice yourself for someone else your one of the purer hearts of broadripple, you may not even know the person you sacrifice yourself for that well but you think its the right thing to do. and maybe it is. but would they do the same thing for you?

Easter Bernie.
(Call the Midwife AU/ Crown Jewels Easter Special/ Also available on A03 & FF)
Bit longer chapter today. Village meeting, Mount Busby, The Crown, Patrixie tension and flirty Bernie! What more could you want on an Easter Saturday! I know that stereotypical Easter animal... an Alpaca 🦙
Thanks for reading. I had forgotten so much of this even I am enjoying it.
CHAPTER THREE: EASTER SATURDAY.
I hear footsteps creeping up behind me. Saying "You don't have to be alone, you know." (Come Home, Cattle & Cane)
Paddy stood with his back against a familiar barn door. He swished his Bottle It Ale. His eyes were fixed on the thirty-something in smart dark jeans and a long white shirt with butterflies and light reflecting sequins embroidered into it. Her hair was loose, catching the spring sunshine. She was laughing with her friends. Damn, he thought, no wonder he was feeling so insecure.
A hand touched his arm, the long pale fingers with the scarlet nail varnish, signalled to him it wasn’t Inspector Chummy. Trixie stood beside him, nursing a mug of tea,
“I think the crisis is over, she seems to be enjoying herself today,” she brightly attempted to reassure him.
Paddy turned towards Trixie, he was surprised at the edge in his own voice, “Why didn’t you tell me about those sods at the Mission, instead of waffling on about the cookie monster.”
Trixie held on tighter to Paddy’s arm. “I tried too, you were the one fixated on pink bleedin’ wafers.”
Paddy went to bite back, but suddenly saw a glint in his opponent's eye and started to laugh.
“She seemed OK about it when I told her Paddy, it wasn’t until much later I realized it had eaten away at her,” Trixie wasn’t great at apologies, but she knew she had handled the situation badly, “I should have known, you are right.”
“Well, as you say she seems OK today, probably because she knows she can have a biscuit tomorrow,” he joked weakly.
“Don’t find me rude, but I do have my own problems today.”
Paddy looked at her with surprise and maybe a hint of disdain, “What, modelling a few scarfs and mittens?”
“Paddy have you any idea why I am here?” She shook her head.
“Mmm, nope can’t say I have, but then I am not sure what any of these people are doing here, who are they all?”
Paddy looked at the sea of faces milling about the Mount Busby lawn. Bernie was in the middle of them now, brandishing a silver tray of partially full champagne flutes. Paddy would rather she was stood next to him drinking champagne, but she did seem to be enjoying herself. What made him more vexed was another young woman, also dressed in smart jeans and attractive white blouse, holding a similar tray.
“More to the point Trixie, what am I doing here? And more importantly, why also are my bar staff here on a Bank Holiday weekend?” If Trixie thought she had been forgiven, Paddy’s tone made her doubt.
“Paddy I have no idea what you are doing here, I didn't invite you. I did invite everyone else, these are my contacts.” she retorted back, giving no quarter. Paddy looked at her, confused.
She continued with a smattering of arrogance, “And Bernie and Val are working for me this afternoon.”
Paddy scoffed, “You can’t afford them.”
Straight back, “Patsy can, anyway they are doing it as a favour.”
“So why are the great and good of Tweavenside gathered here today,” he huffed.
“I told you, I invited them,” she gave back.
“You only got here two days ago, how did you manage that?” Paddy was suddenly interested.
“Oh, you philistine! I sent carrier pigeons to them all from London,” the laugh was hard.
“Is that Lucille? You have got Lucille handing out drinks. Do you have no shame?”
“Val says she is a natural, you should think about hiring her, isn’t that where you usually find your bar staff, at the church.” She was gone before he could reply.
xxxxx
“Can I interest you in a glass of bubbly, Inspector Chummy?”
“Well, it would be rude not to, as I am off duty and just Chummy. Thank you, Bernie.”
“Can I be so bold to ask who is running the Crown?”
“Oh shush! Paddy is not happy. Evie, Violet and Jack are holding the fort and Tim helps more when his dad isn’t there.”
“Well, the match was yesterday, so at least you don’t have to worry about the football crowd. Barring them, the whole of Tweavenside appear to be here. So they might not be too stretched.”
Bernie looked around at the invited guests. Trixie had done very well. She recognized a few well known faces. For someone based in London and only putting a foot in Poplar once, her friend had done a good job of seeking out the local money. She glanced at Trixie who was looking rather pale, her house guest had ran through the planned afternoon's events and read her pitch to Bernie several times. Bernie had always been good with numbers, and checked out all Trixie’s estimated figures. Val, Lucille and herself had come over early to help her set up. They had spent Good Friday putting together Mount Busby Alpaca Bags full of freebees, Trixie had somehow managed to beg, borrow or steal.
“Can I go now?” the vibration of his breath on her neck made her almost drop her tray.
“Evie will phone if she needs you. Trixie is doing her spiel next and then it’s going to get busy when people start spending and discussing possible future contracts.”
“What has any of this got to do with me? I am not going to order alpaca wool beer mats, am I?”
“Paddy this is important Trixie is on trial here, a lot depends on how well she does today.” Bernie frowned.
“But it’s Patsy and Delia, not Dragons Den.” Paddy really didn’t get it.
“You know you are always going on about us doing stuff together, does that just mean things you want to do? This is my friend, and this is a big deal for her. We are here to support her.”
Paddy thought better of bringing up his recent church visit and the elaborate plans they were making for Easter Sunday.
Bernie flounced off with her tray. He looked at Trixie talking to Patsy and Delia, maybe he had fallen for her bravado too easily and missed something. Yes, the Two Loves may have been drawing their pension for a few years now, but they still ran a good business from the farm. They had for many years, always adapting with age and the times. Now they were setting out on this new venture, an extension of the alpaca walks. Patsy was still producing art, maybe not at the rate she once did, but her name still sold well. He looked at Delia Busby’s face in deep conversation with a nervous looking Trixie. Patsy had a big heart and may want to help Trixie, but the former Welsh Nursing Sister, was now a shrewd businesswoman and she wasn’t about to dispense any handouts.
“Afternoon Doc.”
Paddy was dragged out of his reverie, “Pete what are you doing here, alpaca socks is it?”
“Security.”
Paddy grinned, “Don’t tell me, favour to Trixie. The woman has been in Poplar for five minutes and seems to have everyone wrapped around her little finger.”
“Well Camilla asked, we have a soft spot for the farm, our first date and all that.” Peter explained. Paddy looked confused.
“Don’t you remember Doc, last time Ms Franklin was here, the alpaca walk.”
Paddy smiled at Pete’s professionalism towards his employer, even though she probably wasn’t paying him. “But you had been seeing each other for years.”
“Yes, but it was the first time we had attended a social occasion on our own doorstep, together. It felt like a proper date, Camilla said as much. She looked at the Two Loves, the vicar and his missus and you and Berns and I could tell she wanted that and so did I.”
Paddy glanced over at the barn remembering the bust up he and Bernie had that night, choosing to dwell on the making up.
“So that was when I decided to jack it all in and hand in my badge. So Camilla could progress in the Force, but also so we could stop messing about and make a commitment.”
“You decided that looking at me and Bernie?” laughed Paddy ironically.
xxxxx
Paddy moved aimlessly to the outdoor seating area and took a chair at the back. Peter's words were playing through his mind. Bernie, minus tray, made him shuffle in one place and took his chair. Her eyes were on Trixie, who was stood on a small platform holding a microphone. Bernie gave her a thumbs up and then to his surprise grabbed his hand and squeezed it without looking at him. She looked as nervous as the speaker. Her face reminded Paddy of Marianne, the day of Tim’s first nativity play. He used his other hand to encase Bernie’s and settled them on his lap.
“She will be great,” he whispered.
Bernie turned to him for the first time since she sat down, “I said a wee prayer.”
“Well there you go, the job’s a good'un.”
Bernie smiled and leaned into his shoulder as Trixie advised everyone that all the details from the talk were contained in the documentation in the freebee bags.
Paddy had no idea what Trixie talked about, she lost him at “Alpaca”. He gathered from the frequent laughter and Bernie’s release in the tension on his hand, that it had gone well. The applause at the end sealed this thought, the smile on Delia’s face and the amount of air kissing going on confirmed this. Bernie was soon up and to the front, in the midst of all things woolen.
Val handed Paddy another bottle of Buckle’s Brewery beer,
“Don’t think this gets you out of working tonight, we have a meeting remember.”
Val pulled a face and added, “She did well.” Paddy nodded.
Val went on, “Although the alpacas and the lambs went a long way, I think they won everyone over.”
Paddy nodded and took a sip of his beer and then stopped, “Lambs? Mount Busby doesn't have any sheep.”
Val looked up and pursed her lips, “Farm next door does.”
“That’s quite a walk, Val.”
“Trixie brought the lambs here, well Reggie and Fred did technically.”
“That’s illegal, that's sheep rustling and highly irresponsible, didn’t you tell her?”
“Paddy calm down the ewes came too.” Paddy shook his head. Val continued, “They were a big hit. Plus the couple of orphans that needed feeding, they sealed the deal.”
Paddy shook his head in disbelief again.
xxxx
Val, Lucille, Bernie and Paddy walked into the Crown. Evie behind the bar asked how it all had gone? They replied in the order they entered,
“Alright.” “Lovely.” “She was fabulous.” “How’s everything been here?”
Evie smiled, “It’s been fairly quiet, but that’s Bank Holidays for you, can go either way.”
“You managed though?” Paddy needed more.
“Mr Turner, I have been pulling pints, before you pulled your first girlfriend.”
Paddy took no notice. Lucille made an embarrassed squeak as Val chuckled at Paddy being put in his place, she did enjoy Evie’s retorts.
“Get yourself away Evie,” she said taking her place behind the bar.
“I thought we were having this meeting, see if we all know what we are doing tomorrow.”
Val made a face, “Forgot about that.”
xxxx
Most of Poplar-on-Tweaven were assembled in the Crown snug, Val had offered to tend the bar. Phyllis, Evie and Vi were deep in conversation in a corner seat. Fred balanced on a stumpy stool. Lucille sat next to Paddy, who was on a chair at the end. Bernie was perched on his knee unable to settle waiting for Trixie’s return, she had stayed behind to be debriefed by Delia.
“They do know the time,” said Evie in a loud whisper looking at her watch.
At that Reverend Julia entered the snug, apologising profusely for being late.Tom and Bobby Hereward following behind. Bernie jumped off Paddy’s knee and everyone eventually got seated.
Val followed in the God Squad as Jack called them, mainly to annoy Bernie and Lucille. She made sure everyone had drinks and pushed a few bags of crisps and nuts on the table. Fred asked if she had any pork scratchings and was hushed by Vi.
“Shall we make a start,” Phyllis cleared her throat.
“Do I need to take minutes?” asked a nervous Bobby. Paddy and Julia both shook their heads.
“It’s just an informal meeting lass, to see if everyone knows what they are doing tomorrow.”
“Still wouldn't be a miss,” cut in Tom, he gestured at his wife's bag. Bobby quickly took out a pen and notebook and started scribbling. Phyllis and Evie shared a look.
Bernie was now stood behind Paddy’s chair and in her nervous tension, waiting for news of Trixie, was scratching his neck every time she found something funny. Which he was finding very distracting.
“So this is the first Poplar-on-Tweaven, Crown and Church, Easter Festival,” Phyllis began again.
“Didn't we agree it was Church and Crown,” interrupted Tom.
Everyone looked at each other, Bernie dug her nails into the back of Paddy's neck.
“What do the posters say,” enquired Vi.
“They just say Poplar Easter Festival and then times and venues,” responded Julia.
“OK, but I think with it being a religious festival, Church should come first.” Tom continued. “Paddy is that all right with you?” in a tone that didn’t sound like a question.
Paddy just shrugged his shoulders, trying to shake Bernie off at the same time.
“Right,” said Phyllis, “The first Poplar-on-Tweaven, Church and Crown, Easter Festival.”
Bernie grabbed the back of Paddy’s neck just as Bobby asked, “Sorry, are they any apologies for absence.”
Bernie dug in her fingers, and Paddy hid a yelp in a cough.
“I was absent, but I am here now,” Trixie stood at the snug door.
“Sorry,” said Tom, “this is a private meeting for those who reside or work in Poplar.”
Bernie was now pulling on Paddy’s ear.
“Well, that is me then, I am now a Poplar resident and employee. I qualify on both accounts.”
Everyone stared at the newcomer, “That is if Mount Busby is classed as Poplar.”
“It certainly is,” cleared up Phyllis.
To Paddy’s relief, Bernie moved from behind him and hugged Trixie’s neck instead.
“I've signed a years contract and here is the best bit, I will be based in Poplar and commute to London when necessary.”
Val had joined them. “Oh Trixie, that is wonderful.”
“Well Done kid!” smiled Phyllis, then everyone started talking at once.
“Where will you live?” asked Paddy.
Berne suddenly stopped hugging Trixie, who said, “That’s the best bit.”
“Is it?” Bernie asked.
“I have been given a room at Mount Busby, I was shown it today. Its adorable and the views are to die for.”
“Oh, Trixie!” Bernie was back around her friend’s neck.
“This calls for champagne, Paddy! Or at least a bottle of Prosecco.” Evie realized as soon as she had said it, she had made a mistake; this was her first meeting with the engaging stranger.
Trixie was the one to rescue the situation, “Please do, I have been surrounded by champagne all day, one more bottle won't make a difference.”
“That is a good point chick, me, Berns and Luce would probably be sick if we had to pour another glass of bubbles.” Val chipped in.
“I know what we do have,” Vi piped up, “too many cakes for tomorrow.”
“How can you have too many cakes?” asked Fred.
“I am sure we can cut into one now,” Vi continued.
“Brilliant idea I am on it,” Val was off, but called back by Vi.
“Valerie, while you're in there, can you check I have done enough hard-boiled eggs? I have another dozen in the larder, if you're not sure.”
Evie interrupted, “It was like a sauna in there earlier, you must have boiled six dozen.”
Vi folded her arms and shuffled her ample bosom, “What with decorating, rolling, hunting and jarping, you mark my words, you will be glad I did.”
Val laughed at Vi’s indignation and commitment, “Look if we have over catered they are eggs, I am sure they won’t go to waste.”
“Couldn’t you pickle any surplus and sell them behind the bar?” Everyone’s attention was now on Reverend Julia, “My father always brought pickled eggs home from the pub on a Friday night, one each for me and my brothers and sisters and a bottle of ginger beer.”
“That is an Egg-cellent idea, Vicar,” agreed Fred.
The collective groan ended the great boiled egg debate. Phyllis was watching Mrs Hereward still writing and just hoped she hadn’t recorded the last ten minutes of conversation.
Paddy thought that Bernie must be genuinely pleased at Trixies news, because she seemed to forget where she was, and plonked herself down on his knee again. While everyone was discussing the many uses for a hard-boiled egg, Paddy wrapped his arm around her and pulled her into him.
“Happy?” he whispered.
Bernie paused for a moment, tilted her head and gave a little smile meant just for him and nodded.
Phyllis cleared his throat, “So if we ever get this meeting started, the first Poplar-on-Tweaven, Church and Crown, Easter Festival, takes place tomorrow.”

Summary:  Peridot and Lapis try to clean out the leaves enclosing the area by doing a human chore.
The two gems were immediately allured by the change of Earth's season which occured just a few weeks ago. It was officially Autumn. Fall. The fetching of all seasons. And right off the bat there was a cold breeze that was chilly enough to make the whole countryside quiver. The two gems and pumpkin did not need to endure icy ambience though. But the setting was lurid enough to make the roommates wear oddment sweaters that they found and took in the barn's scrap for fun.
The plants and trees in the countryside were gradually shifting into shades of oranges, and sometimes they worried that Pumpkin could run off and blend in with the surroundings. But probably the best feature in autumn of all, THE LEAVES. There were plenty for Lapis and Peridot to make more meep morps, and simply for Lapis to gaze upon.
They've learned how the planet's enviroment changes every 3 months or so, hence they have experienced autumn already in the past. Heck, it was the first season where their farm had fully developed to produce (pointless) corn. But they lost track off time somehow, until Lapis went for a morning glide and informed Peridot. Hence today, it was now the first fall of the year, meant for the two gem couple to spend.
It's been week 2 or 3 of the season's enjoyance. But the motely autumn leaves suddenly flew from a distance overnight and landed detectable on to the two gem's ground. Some of them were by the barn's doors, by the farm, by nearly everywhere and even just inside the barn itself. This did not seem like the outcome of a tree shedding though. It was more like the entire woods had shed and blanketed their percinct.
"What happened here?" Lapis asks while ambling outside with Peridot and pumpkin.
"There must've been a wind storm or something." Peridot says. "Good thing all our stuff is still okay."
The two gems had a whole morning to think about what to do with the trivial yet baffling leavess situation. A lot seemed to have been stepped on by their feet and alarming them both. "Wait...I've seen how to clean something like this before somewhere." the green gem says.
She was thinking about 'raking'. Peridot had seen characters do that on TV for a split second, either banter or boredom but for a few reasons why. She spent a few minutes analyzing the area, gasping and later eagerly alluding the task to Lapis. "I know what we should do with these leaves." she says and quickly reconed the necessary tools for the autumn frisk inside. A crooked rake and a rather dense broom was grasped on her hands and offered one of them to Lapis.
"These are called 'rakes', Lapis. Humans use them to rake leaves into a whole bush of them" she explains. "We're going try this laborious custom to get these leaves out of our yard and do something about them."
Lapis grabs the broom and looks at it riddled. She was sure that one of them was clearly not a rake, and she was enigmatic about the whole idea of raking anyway.
"I don't know. These rakes kinda look dangerous. And I don't want to damage the leaves too." she expresses and looks around. "I think they look great out here. Besides we didn't rake last year so why are we doing this today?"
"Well, they do look prim. But I just want to see if this human chore is any different than mopping the barn." Peridot says. "Also Garnet and the others said that we should spend more time together 'outside'". Or perhaps just another excuse for her to hangout affably with the blue gem?
Despite them actually growing a whole farm and decorating their home for the past year, what else could they have done outdoors with each other? But at least Lapis thought this seemed like the easiest of all tasks. And to Peridot, this was going to be another amiable experience with each other.
"I guess this can be fun." Lapis assumes
Peridot levitates the busted up rake with her metal powers. "Yeah! I mean, how hard can this chore be?"
It passes couple minutes later. As much as this was a simple thing people do for manual labor and the two gems could have done something else useful with their time, Peridot seemed to have no trouble avoiding being exasperated. And with metal powers, anything can be done! The rake she aquired was gradually levitating and scraping the ground for her bundle of leaves to huddle. A soft grin was cryptically visible while doing the chore. But who knows when she was going to be finished with this soon.
Lapis also had her high ground with this job, literally. She flew to the roof of their mangled barn and found a bit of leaves lying around. She guessed winds must have strong enough to get riffles up on their home for some reason. So her broom was in use as it was being brushed repetetively to one direction, avoiding crushing the poor leaves into bits, and watches them fall down. "And...off you go." Lapis utters to the orange driblets.
Peridot finds her up on the canopy and wanted to check on her. "HEY LAPIS, HOW'S IT GOING UP THERE?!" she calls loudly from below and near the farm.
"I'm fine! I found a few leaves on the roof and bringing them down." she replies chiefly.
"OH. HEY LAPIS ONE MORE THING!" the green gem calls again.
"What?"
"I THINK YOU LOOK REALLY CUTE WITH YOUR SWEATER ON!!!"
The blue gem hauls her blue sweater that had patterns of snow flakes and a reindeer imprinted. Lapis snorts and gets a tad flustered by Peridot's compliment. "You too, Peridot!" she exclaims blooming and grinning
"WOW, THANKS!"
Pumpkin was scampering around the barony where Peridot was raking. A bunch of leaves were scattered the more the vegetable dog was playing all over her work area. So it only made the duty a bit cracking. "Pumpkin, settle down...!" she commands and then follows. "I'm so close from finishing a pile. You and Lapis are going to love what we could do with a bundle of leaves."
A short couple hours later.
The two gems were never tired by their chore. Peridot thought correctly that this was going to be a lot simple. And the barn's surroundings was getting a lot more lucent. Lapis on the other hand was mildly baffled about raking. She did not feel annoyed by it, but what did they both plan on doing with a bundle of leaves in the first place? Not like it mattered though. She was down on the ground and finishing up with her roommate. All the leaves were ranged and crystallized into an array out their porch. Actually, it's more like three seperated bundles were made. The heap of leaves were taller than Peridot and good enough to be a considered a meep morp.
The two gems let go of their cleaning materials and gaped at each other. "Wow. Good work, Laz!" Peridot acknowldges.
"Um, thanks. You too, Peri." she replies gentle and looks back at their pile. "So what do we do with these leaves now?" she inquires.
Peridot chuckles and paceds a step forward. "There's one reason why I said we were going to rake today." she enlightened. "You see, after people are done cleaning up the leaves, they jump into their grouped compeers and lay on the coated ground happily. And with these many leaves, it's going to be twice as fun as I hope it's going to be!"
Lapis finally grasped the goal. "But wait, that means we'd make a mess and have to rake all over again." she mentions.
"It's fine, it won't be too massive. This will be a fun thing. Look, observe me."
The green gem took a deep breath and readied to pounce. She pants and leaps as high as Lapis's height, phasing forward to the leaves until her form collides with the array. She enters amid it, and the compulsion causes the bundle's half to disintigrate and spread a tad. Peridot landed on her back and feels the stupendous solace of orange-red leaves incasing her from her hair to her socks.
"Huh..." her expression was balmy at first. "...That did feel great!"
Her eyes shut close and began to chortle uncontrollably. She did not know why or what it was like to perceive such element to be collided with. But she now understood why people would jump into their pile afterwards, and it was merely for some foolish jives. Pumpkin saw her jumped in and barks at her continually. She swiftly paces to her own array and immatates the action, propagating some leaves around too. The sentient pumpkin then jumps onto the laughing green gem and licks her face coltishly, making her chuckle even more.
The blue gem felt warmer and regaled by her partner's bliss to leaves. There was now one good array left to jump on, but she still wasn't sure if she wanted to commit it.
Peridot notices her dull posture and instead simply gaping at the leaves. "Come on Lapis. There's a good ol' pile of leaves reserved for my favorite earth roommate and homeworld gem." she calls upon engagingly with the pumpkin child barking definite. "That's you by the way."
Lapis giggles and slightly blushes to her boquet. "I uh, I just don't know. What if I don't like the feeling of having a bunch of thos around me?" she says.
Peridot gets Pumpkin off of her body and tries to scooch closer to the orange clump. "Well you won't know unless you try it." she replies to her. "Let's just try this instead. Grab my hand."
Her left grasp was extended out to offer. Lapis ploddingly reaches her palm to Peridot and both of them clasp. She waited for something smooth or anything conveying so to speak to happen. But all of a sudden, she gets pulled down fussily by the petite gem and shrieks until she crashes with tenths of tinged leaves.
Both gems were lying on their sides and face-to-face each other. Peridot waited for some fond reaction by the blue gem. It took a second, but her face hidden with the leaves and her puffy azure hair was disclosed and saw that she had the same reaction as Peridot. Her chuckle and ponderous smile was contagious, making the green gem beam too from affection. Lapis' cheerfulness was like a barrage of meteor showers, she did not want to get her eyes of it for it was a beautiful sight. She doesn't realize that she managed to fluster her green roommate after falling down. But as she lied down, she was already feeling the sensation that she anticipated.
Lapis pushes Peridot partially. "...Peridot you clod!" she exclaims and uses her partner's word to affront her warmly. She chuckles one last time and breathes a whole heap, then brings her roommate close with a wooly embrace. "Well, you sure know how to get me into new things here on this planet."
Their hands were still grasped clenched as they laid down and enjoyed their shallows. One of them would have realized that now, and they continued to hold each other to make their experience warmer than it is. "We may be wearing sweaters, but I know one way we could warm us slightly out in this condtions." Peridot clarifies.
Their caress stops abruptly when they here Pumpkin bark and amble to their locus. She pounces into the center of them and brings them to chortle lightly. The whole barn family were now embracing each other on the futon made of orange leaves. Peridot had made one tedious errand into an unwinding bond.

Stacey and Ryan’s Intimate Vintage Mountain Wedding - Bridechilla Wedding Planning

Stacey and Ryan’s Intimate Vintage Mountain Wedding - Bridechilla Wedding Planning
Ryan and I have been together for 7 years. We met at a party at my parents’ house after my stepdad hired him for his first job out of college. After that summer, we both went back to school in different states and decided to stay long-distance between Texas and Oklahoma to see where things went. I just kept thinking to myself that I would stay in this relationship as long as it made me happy and not worry about the future!
After a couple of years, I decided to move back to New Mexico to be with Ryan and my family. We moved in together, got a dog, and loved traveling and playing board games with friends.
When Ryan got a job in Colorado we faced a turning point in our relationship. We made the decision to stay committed to each other and he proposed on an Alaskan cruise with the 7-year-old map he had drawn to my parents’ house from the night we met. We both moved up to Colorado and have been enjoying camping, hiking, and skiing in the mountains.
We ditched the Pinterest Board and Started from Scratch
Like every couple, we really wanted the day to feel like our own. I had a whole Pinterest board before we got engaged, but I chucked it out the window because it was all rustic with lace and mason jars—and I felt like I was planning somebody else’s wedding (no hate on that theme; it’s beautiful). And we started from scratch. Making the decision to get married in Colorado was hard because that meant both families would have to travel, but we decided to do what was right for us—and we wanted the mountain venue!
Navigating the challenges of planning a big event as introverts
One of our biggest priorities (and challenges) was keeping the day intimate. As introverts, neither of us wanted to stand in front of a crowd of people we only knew half of. We chose our venue because of the slightly smaller size, and saved money by choosing a Friday date. We also decided that kids (save our nieces) weren’t appropriate for this venue or the kind of event we were having. It was hard to do this, but in the end it all worked out for the better. I’m also a professional designer and love to do projects, so it was really important to me to include special handmade details throughout the day. I spent months hand-crafting our custom invitation suite and made a few signs using barn wood from Ryan’s family farm in Oklahoma. About 10 months before our wedding, a very special cherry tree in my parents’ backyard fell over—and after crying about it for a good 20 minutes, I took my mom’s offer of using it for the wedding and hand-lettered each guest’s name onto a slice of wood for their place card. I thought that would be a detail that was only important to me, but our guests took them home afterwards and have been doing all kinds of fun things with them!
My favorite part of the entire day happened right after the ceremony. There’s a small amount of time that the bride and groom get alone together before everyone else comes in for the recessional and our feeling of elation was so high at that point. I’ll never forget the kiss we shared right then and what it felt like to have done it!
Okay, okay. And I know I’ve rambled for a bit but I have to share the most classic part of the day. First, it downpoured right before our outdoor ceremony (yes, we had a plan B). And I had no idea. Guests afterwards kept asking me if I was freaking out, but really, I was just glad about this:
When I arrived at the venue, I walked up to the doorway with my brother and our photographer. As we approached the doorway, I heard a hissing noise—and looked over to see a large rattlesnake reared up, fangs bared, and rattling/hissing 10 feet away from my brother! We backed away, used a different entrance, and the venue called a ranger but eventually the snake just went away on its own. So rain wasn’t the worst thing that could have happened to us and it gave us some great perspective and a great story.
My invitations. I know a lot of people throw fancy invitations in the FIB, but I spent hours and hours on mine and loved every minute. We got so many compliments on them and people really appreciated the attention to detail.
My dress. Y’all… the cost of wedding dresses can be INSANE I know. We splurged a little more than I had planned on mine—and it wasn’t even my mom or grandma’s favorite. But I loved it so much and it made me feel so incredible.
The. Open. Bar. And I don’t mean this in a “you’re a bad host if you don’t have one” way, because, ew. We didn’t think we had it in our budget, but we found a company in Colorado that did it for just $16 (yes, SIXTEEN) dollars a person for the entire night (whaaaat?!). So we spent the money on it and it really helped loosen everyone up for the dancing and socializing. And our guests were grateful for it. I have photos of my cousins hanging out with my friends from college. Of Ryan’s uncle dancing in the middle of a group of my aunts. Everyone mingled and I don’t think it would have been the same without the bar.
Okay… I know this sounds cliche and like I am seeing our day through rose-colored glasses. There was a lot of stress leading up to the day and it wasn’t a fun year planning. But I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Oh, this. Meeting with wedding planners wasn’t worth it. I didn’t end up hiring one, which made me really nervous because of our short timeline for setup. But I put a trusted aunt of mine in charge and my family tackled everything beautifully! I did make sure everything was ridiculously (and y’all, I mean ridiculously) organized for them, but they were happy to help and another vendor would have just gotten in the way. Not sure I would have the same advice to others unless they have ready and willing people like mine!
Everything traditional beyond the first dances! No bouquet toss, no garter toss, no cake cutting… just a really fun party! And we got feedback from everyone about how much fun it was instead of feeling like a checklist of things to get done during the night.
We also threw the traditional timeline in the FIB and did a first look, which was fabulous because it calmed us both down before the ceremony, and we were able to get photos out of the way so we could enjoy cocktail hour!
Transportation. People are adults. They can get somewhere on time and drive responsibly on their own.
Our traditional American rehearsal dinner also went in the FIB. At first I didn’t want to do this—I wanted a nice wedding party dinner in an intimate setting without the whole family around—but as the planning went on I found that I didn’t think the money was worth it, and just went with my mom’s suggestion of using the fabulous AirBnb they had rented with a barn area out in the back. My MIL had tacos brought in and we ended up inviting the whole extended family—which was GREAT after all because then everyone had been around each other before the wedding so it was more relaxed and much less divided on the wedding day.
Try to just feel gratitude, not guilt. I spent a lot of time worrying about other people—how much my bridesmaids were spending to travel, how awful of a person I was for not inviting all of my parents’ friends when they were helping us pay for the wedding, how everyone would have to take time off for our Friday date. And in the end, everyone was so happy to be there and to be a part of it. They all had a fantastic time and I learned that while it’s YOUR special day, it will be special for others too.
Also, hire professionals. They’re good at their job and they’ll make everything better for you.
Bridechilla helped to keep me sane! There were so many times that I felt so alone throughout the process. It was great to have a community of people to reach out to who would respond with understanding and not judgment.

ALTERNATIVELY THROUGH POLAND: ARENDEL – NORWEGIAN VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF POLAND
The history of Arendel's creation is really a movie screenplay: after traveling to Norway, two students: Agata and Aleksander fell in love with this country so much that they decided to recreate the magical atmosphere of a Scandinavian village in Poland. Instead of investing in an overpriced apartment in Poznan, the current couple bought a piece of land with a pine forest near Konin and built an original guest huts on it. The idea played an important role here and thanks to it, the place quickly gained popularity. Arendel is only two years old, it is still being expanded, but it’s already one of the most interesting places to stay in Poland at the moment. Despite this, you don’t have to come here overnight to see the work of the Dyczek family. The Norwegian village offers a lot of attractions, and in its area, in addition to two houses for guests and farm buildings, there is a renovated barn, adapted to organize various types of festivities, a place for feasting and grilling by an outdoor fire, a farm with Shetland ponies and a farm with reindeers! These last attractions are often visited by children from kindergartens and primary schools, so even in the middle of the week it can be crowded, busy and cheerful. Arendel is open all year round for guests of all ages: individual guests as well as organized groups.
ARENDEL – WHERE IS IT?
The easiest way to reach the Norwegian village is by using the navigation (Google Maps). Arendel is located between the villages of Drzewce, Włodzimirów and Zagórów, south of Słupca, south-west of Konin. The village borders with single farms, several meters away, so there is no fear that neighbors will be disturbed by even the most enjoyable party! A few kilometers further north is the Nadwarciński National Park. From Warsaw, you will reach Arendel in 2.5 hours, and from the nearest Poznań in just one hour.
NORWAY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Arendel is an unusual agritourism, whose stylistics in each smallest detail refer to Scandinavia. The whole idea was carefully thought out; nothing is accidental here, from the restored barn, to the breadbox or even...garbage bins! Arendel offers a holiday in the bosom of nature, away from the city noise. Perfect for a few days of relaxation for the whole family, but also for those who prefer active rest, such as cycling trips or canoeing on the Warta River. In the recreational barn, which is a social center of the village, there is a banquet room, ideal for organizing special events; and a mezzanine with a pool table, a place to read (eg Scandinavian detective stories) and playing board games.
HYTTE HUTS
Arendel offers accommodation in houses created on the model of wooden hytte huts, popular in Scandinavia. At the moment there are two of them: red and blue available to guests, and another one is being finished soon: gray. The cottages are small but cozy, adapted to two, maximum four people, but to be honest, four adults would be cramped here. Equipped with one double bed and two mattresses, which can optionally be spread on the floor, while giving up any passage through the room. Next to the bed there is a small table with two folding chairs, and two additional ones are hung on the wall. The kitchenette allows you to prepare smaller meals, also hot ones with an electric oven. A big advantage of the house is the terrace, where you can sit back and enjoy coffee in the bosom of nature when the weather is good. In winter, you don’t have to worry about frost, because the cabins warm up quickly.
HOUSE AMENITIES
electric heating,
electric oven,
bread toaster,
kettle,
coffee percolator,
coffee, tea, sugar,
salt & pepper,
kitchen accessories: mugs, plates, cutlery, pots, pans, etc.,
glasses,
shower,
towels (small and large),
aloe vera soap and washing gel,
bed sheets and blankets,
radio.
BATH IN A TUB
An additional attraction in Arendel for adults is an outdoor bath in a wooden tub, holding a maximum of 8 people. The bath price is 150 PLN for the first hour and 50 PLN for the next ones (max 3 hours). The reservation must be made at least 24h before bathing so that the owners can prepare it well. Baths are possible throughout the year unless the air temperature is below -5 degrees. You can read more about the bath HERE.
HOW TO BOOK ARENDEL?
Arendel can be booked through the official website of agrotourism HERE. During the reservation you can check the availability of houses and the prices. As part of the booking confirmation, you must pay a non-returnable 20% of the final amount.
Prices vary depending on the length of stay up to max. PLN 300 for a house per night (when booking for one night only).
The breakfast costs an additional PLN 25 per person and is served as a buffet in the barn.
FEW FACTS
+ Arendel owners bought this land at the age of 24! Most of the construction work was done by themselves, and now they show entrepreneur skills by running business on their own.
+ Arendel is a pet-friendly place - you can bring your pet here for free.
+ In Arenel, you can try real Scandinavian delicacies - at breakfast, ask about Norwegian cheese with an unusual caramel flavor.
- In winter, it happens that the water in the shower drains very slowly because the pipes freeze.
- In our house there was no sponge for washing dishes nor a towel to dry them.
- It is cold in the barn, because such a large building heats up slowly, so it’s worth wearing warm clothes for breakfast.
ATTRACTIONS IN THE AREA
NADWARCIAŃSKI LANDSCAPE PARK - an ideal place for kayaking or bird watching. In the area you can see, among others, the Cistercian abbey in Lądek and the palace in Ciążeń. More information about the park and nearby attractions can be found HERE.
MARINA ŚLESIN - a marina with a beach. It is a tourist place, but you can take a bath or rent a boat or cruise. More information can be found HERE.
UNOBVIOUS MAP OF KONIN - good to ask the owners of Arendel about it, because it abounds in interesting places and events, such as the Lisewo Vineyard or the Festival of Fire. More information can be found HERE.
THE AZURE LAKE - this is not a typical tourist attraction, because the whole coastline of this artificial water reservoir is fenced, and the bathing in the lake is forbidden. Turquoise waters (due to the calcium carbonate content) can be admired from a specially created vantage point. The lake is a landfill for incineration from a nearby power plant such as ash and slag. You can read more about the lake HERE.
IS IT WORTH VISITING ARENDEL?
Yes! I definitely agree on that although the village offers the most attractions for families with children. The cottages are so far apart from each other that guests will not be disturbed. Be sure to book a minimum of one night to feel the Scandinavian climate! Morning coffee on the terrace overlooking the homestead with reindeer will no doubt take you to the land of the Vikings. In the surrounding forest you will feel real peace and unity with nature, and perhaps you will fall in love with this place enough to invite your friends or family to a unique feast in the barn? Oh, and remember that this is the only such place in Europe, that is why try to spread the message beyond Polish borders!

The Great Smoky Mountains are a breathtaking place to visit! Of course, I had to lump Pigeon Forge into this category as well!
November 2016 our beloved Smokey Mountains were struck by a massive fire. Killing an destroying everything in its path. Despite the devastation, this place has come together and rebuilt. It takes a real community to band together and fixes such a large disaster. While, things will never be the same, like a phoenix, Gatlinburg has risen from the ashes.

Lodging
Finding a great vacation rental is so easy here. Whether you would prefer to be close to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge or right downtown off the strip in Gatlinburg there is something for everyone. We usually spring for a cabin which allows us privacy as a family. This may be a good option for those who don’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of the city. A lot of cabins there are very reasonable and have all the amenities of a condo (if they are in a resort community most have pools, gyms, and outdoor activities).
http://www.ourhappykitchen.net
http://www.ourhappykitchen.net
Condos are also amazing options we personally like to stay at Baskins Creek Condos. It is just off the strip but walking distance at the same time. It is very convenient for small children due to the layouts of the units. Oh, and of course they have a workout room and a pool. Which, let me tell you that pool will be a saving grace during the hot mountain days!
http://www.ourhappykitchen.net
Another option is to be smack downtown. We have stayed at the Days Inn downtown and it was quite pleasant. Different in respects to not having a full kitchen and the amenities of a house or condo. Having said that, being at a hotel downtown has perks like not having to drive.

This is a true tourist destination and finding good places to eat (not cliche chains) can be a task. After all of the years of visiting, I think we have compiled our list of favorites!

The Peddler
It is no secret we love The Peddler! Talk about good steaks! They even cut them tableside. The salad bar is my favorite aspect of this beautiful little steakhouse. Everything is always super fresh! Ask for a riverside view table and you will definitely not be disappointed. Parents, you know how we go out to eat and spend a majority of our time cutting up our little one’s food? Well, here they actually do it at the table for you so you can enjoy your nice hot meal along with your children.

Joe’s Crab Shack
Okay, this is the big chain restaurant that we just have to hit. I just love their seafood pots and the kids like being able to run around their fenced-in playground. It is a win/win!

The Apple Barn
This is a must-see. Not only is it a classic farm style restaurant it is also an amazing attraction and cider mill to visit!. Get fresh cider from the cider bar or heck grab some homemade ice cream from the ice cream shop! The view of the river is also gorgeous from this orchard! You should ask to sit at one of the tables with porch swings! It is just so much fun! The food is also amazing!

  The Old Mill
This restaurant not only has amazing food it also has an amazing view. When you walk in you are greeted by the glow of wood everywhere. This place truly exudes mountain and old-time living. It looks the same inside today as it did when I was little (30-some years ago *wink). After you eat check out the store and walk to all the fun little shops on the block. There is even a moonshine distillery less than a block away!

Dollywood
I love this park. We usually go to the mountains for 10-15 days. During the first couple of days, we buy Dollywood season passes (keep in mind little ones under 4 are free!) and then go for a full day. After that, we utilize our passes to spend the evenings at the park. At about 3 pm every day it seems like the morning crowd would leave and the park would be pleasantly unpopulated. That meant 5 minute wait times on even the new rides! We got lucky and this year we were there during the Summer Celebration. The park is usually open from 10-8 but on these days they stayed open till ten. We absolutely get our monies worth out of a season pass here! Also, have one person obtain a gold season pass because there are several advantages to it. One is the fact that you will not have to pay for parking and another is you will get 20 percent off most if not all of your purchases within the park. It comes in handy! If you have smaller children they will be as entertained as the older ones.

Explore Nature
The mountains are gorgeous. I just can’t explain the feeling you get when you experience the Smokey Mountains. It is peaceful. Take the ride over the mountain to Cherokee, NC and soak in the sights! Go for a hike to one of the waterfalls. For those with children, there is even a paved path to a beautiful waterfall that you can safely enjoy! Everywhere you look you will see beauty. Get out and enjoy it.

The Strip and Stuff
Okay, so I’m lumping all of these places together because there are just so many! Go check out Wonder Works or the Wax Museum in Pigeon Forge. Also, the Island is a must see. You can spend a whole day there meandering in and out of shops while the kids do the ropes course and go on rides. The Gatlinburg strip is fun for everyone too! Ride the skylifts and play Hillbilly Golf!
Or, if you are of age, go moonshine and wine tasting. I stopped by Sugarlands this go around and Angela was amazing at keeping every involved while tasting tons of their unique moonshine! My daughters have gotten to the point where they love to go into every little store and there are so many unique ones tucked in the nooks and crannies of the downtown area definitely look everywhere because you never know what you will find.

Go-Karts and Kiddie Parks
These amusement parks are almost on every corner! Go-Karts are a staple in almost every tourist spot down south. We always have to go here. If you are majorly into racing (or the kids are) check out Nascar! So much fun for the whole family and it provides hours of entertainment. Most also have an arcade attached. So, hey if it is raining spend your time winning tickets at one of these fun places.

Shows
One thing that is a must do on every trip for us is a dinner show. The Smokey’s have so many great shows to choose from! It doesn’t have to be a dinner show either. Check out the comedy barn or try a magic show downtown! The Hatfields and McCoys are the all-time favorite show with our girls. Mainly because they have animatronic bears. This goes around we checked out Dolly’s Celebration. The food was awesome and the entertainment was on point. I love how nice and accommodating everyone at all the shows have been.
http://www.ourhappykitchen.net
http://www.ourhappykitchen.net
The Smoky Mountains are the ultimate family destination! With things that will be fun for everyone. The fires may have burned down the trees and houses but they could not destroy the pride and love of this community.

My heart will always lie in the Smokey Mountains.

About Book
They shared only one night of passion but the memory of it has stayed with Damien ever since. He searched for her for months but even with his considerable resources, with only her first name to go on, he’d been unsuccessful. Now, six years later, Damien is speechless when he finds Jemma by chance on a farm in the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside. The woman he has sought for so long, and yet she won’t come with him now? But Damien won’t give up so easily. Damien’s appearance after so many years rocks Jemma’s comfortable, if simple existence. He has never left her memory either - how could he with such a visible reminder? Her son - their son - Dylan is now a precocious five, and the light of her life. If she tells Damien, will he try to take Dylan away?
“You‟re not supposed to be here,” a small voice stated firmly.
Damien Alfieri looked around, seeing only the momma dog and a stall filled with what looked like a hundred puppies. Of course, it was probably only five or six fur-balls, but they were wiggling continuously and looked like a lot more.
When he spotted the black haired boy with brown eyes staring back at him, Damien was startled. There was something about the boy that caught and held his gaze, but he couldn‟t quite figure out what was so…interesting about the boy.
“I apologize if I‟m intruding on your solitude, young man,” he said, bowing formally but with humor in his eyes. The boy was holding – or trying to hold – two additional puppies. They were both licking the boy‟s face, but they were wagging their little tails so hard they were about to fall out of his arms.
“What‟s solitude?” the boy asked, his eyes changing from suspicious to curious as his mind tried to process the new word. Then he realized what he was doing and shook his head . “Doesn‟t matter. You‟re not supposed to be in here.” He looked behind Damien worriedly.
Damien instantly knew what was going through the boy‟s mind. “Do your parents know that you‟re out here?” he asked gently, but with an unspoken reprimand in his tone. He didn‟t understand why he had included the scolding – he usually left children to their governesses or parents. He rarely had time to interact with children, especially one this young. He appeared to be six or seven, possibly eight years old with intelligent eyes and black, curly hair that was in desperate need of a trim.
“Dylan!” a feminine voice called from outside the barn.  “Time for breakfast.”
The boy gripped one of the puppies closer, obviously not wanting to relinquish his treasure but unable to ignore the summons. “I gotta go,” he said with resignation and put the puppy down gently near his momma. “So do you,” he said and raced to the stall‟s doors, slipping underneath. When he was standing outside the doorway, he looked up at the extremely tall stranger, his eyebrows pulled down into a frown. “You gotta go too. My momma doesn‟t want strangers in her barn. She says it isn‟t good.”
With that, the little boy sprinted out the barn door, straight for the small house that sat at the end of the driveway.
Damien chuckled, liking the little fellow instantly. There was a bark and Damien turned around, remembering the puppies and the whole reason he‟d come out to this small farm. A puppy. With a sigh, he looked down at the puppies, his eyes trying to determine which his niece would like the most. Probably the cutest, but Damien was more inclined to choose the least wiggly of the bunch.
“A phone call, sir,” his driver said. Damien looked up from the puppies, irritated that business couldn‟t wait for another ten minutes while he selected a puppy from the brood. But business rarely waited. It was normally what he liked about his work, but today, he wanted some time. He‟d never slowed down before, preferring to move quickly and efficiently as he did his
The Italian‟s Surprise Son Elizabeth Lennox
business around the world. But being here in the soft, rolling hills of central Virginia, he could see the attraction of a slower, easier lifestyle.
Inside the house, Dylan climbed up onto his stool and grabbed his spoon before taking a big bite of his oatmeal. “Guy in the barn,” he said. “Oh, and Andy‟s birthday party is this weekend. I can go, right?”
Jemma put the last dish in the drying rack and sighed, wondering how she could scrape up enough money for a birthday present. If only Dylan weren‟t so popular! The kid was charming and funny as well as frighteningly intelligent. But couldn‟t he skip just a few of the birthday parties he was invited to? This would be the third one this month! There were only twenty- five kids in his class. How many of them knew her son well enough to really want him at their birthday party?
And then his first comment struck her. “A guy in the barn?” she asked, trying to clarify. “What do you mean?”
Dylan swallowed around the scoop of oatmeal, knowing he wasn‟t allowed to talk with his mouth full. His mom was weird about things like that. “Yeah. Some guy. I think he wants one of the puppies.”
Jemma perked up at that news. Selling one of the puppies would be wonderful! They were pure-bred yellow labs. The proceeds from just one would allow her to buy groceries for the whole month.
“You stay and eat your breakfast,” she told him sternly, wiping her hands on the threadbare dishtowel. “I‟ll go see what this guy wants.”
Dylan almost rolled his eyes, but he was too hungry to put much effort into the expression. “I told you, he wants to buy one of Momma Dog‟s puppies.” He looked up at her when she had one hand on the doorknob. “You‟re not going to, are you?” he asked, his eyes instantly displaying concern.
Jemma sighed, the weight of her son‟s worry on her shoulders. “We talked about this, remember? I know you love Momma Dog‟s puppies, but they need to find their own homes.”
Dylan‟s food was forgotten as his worry over losing one of his playmates surfaced. “Yeah, but that was last week. No one came to buy a puppy, so I thought…”
Jemma‟s heart ached for her young son. “Dylan, just because no one has come to buy them yet, doesn‟t mean they all don‟t need a good home. You can‟t take care of six puppies plus Momma Dog and all of your other chores.”
His face took on a disgruntled expression as he thought through the options. “I could forget some of my other chores!” he exclaimed. “That would give me more time to take care of the puppies.”
Jemma almost laughed out loud at his excited expression. But she somehow found the strength to hold back. “I don‟t think so, young man. Eat your breakfast,” she told him and opened the door. “I‟ll be back in a moment.”
Jemma walked out of the house and headed towards the barn. She looked towards the front and saw the long, black limousine. Nervous, she hurried her pace. It wasn‟t the luxury of the
The Italian‟s Surprise Son Elizabeth Lennox
vehicle that caused her heart to start beating frantically. Her reputation as a horse and dog breeder had people from Washington, D.C., Richmond, and as far away as North Carolina and Ohio coming to her farm to buy horses or puppies. The animals loved her farm, enjoying the freedom of the outdoors and the wide, open spaces where they could run around and bark to their heart‟s content. But there was something about this limousine that hurried her footsteps towards the barn, she looked back at the house to ensure that Dylan was out of sight.
She tried to compose herself before entering the barn. Her tho ughts were crazy. There was no way the man waiting for her was….
Jemma stepped into the darker barn area and stopped cold. The tall, dangerous looking man standing there in front of the stall filled with Momma Dog and her puppies once again took her breath away. She couldn‟t believe he was here, standing in her barn and looking….well, more
dangerous! How had he found her? Why was he here? Goodness, he looked marvelous! She tried breathing, tried taking deep breaths to regain her equilibrium, but it was hard. Memories of that one night came back to her, haunting her, causing her whole body to tense with anticipation of what he could do to her, what he could make her body feel. It wasn‟t possible, she told herself. There was no way this man, this one man who had so completely turned her world around, could be here, standing in her barn not ten feet from her.
And then he turned around. As soon as her gaze collided with his, her knees went weak and her pulse raced. It wasn‟t possible! Not this man! Not here! Not after all these years! No!
“Go away!” she almost yelled and spun on her heel, racing out the door again. She was torn between many emotions – fighting both tears and the urge to race towards him with her fingernails bared. She wanted to claw at his face, to hurt him so deeply, just as he‟d done to her. But there was a part of her that wanted to throw herself into his arms, to feel that incredible strength surround her. To have him create that shocking, mind-blowing magic when he touched her, when he kissed her. And damn him! She also wanted him to do all those crazy, sensuous, pleasure- inducing things to her that they‟d done together that one night.
No man, either before or after him, had possessed the power to drive her so out of control. No man had brought her to the brink of heaven, only to carry her over into screaming, passionate climax and then coax her to gently float down into blissful pleasure like he had. She resented him for that. Because ever since that night, she‟d never found another man with whom she could experience such incredible bliss. He‟d both spoiled her for other men and scared her to even try looking.
Because that one night had resulted in Dylan‟s conception. And although she‟d never regret having that precious boy in her life, this man had changed the course of her destiny. Even as she looked at him how, she instinctively knew that he could do it again.
She‟d almost made it through the doorway when a grip like a steel band wrapped around her arm, hauling her back. “Jemma?” he asked, taking her other arm, effortlessly holding her in place even as she struggled to get away from him. “Is it really you?”
No matter how hard she yanked against his hands, she couldn‟t break his hold. He was too strong and too dangerous. She was shivering when she finally stopped. She wouldn‟t look up at him though. She simply stood there with his hands still gripping her upper arms, furious with him and scared at the same time.

Dreams from the past several nights
Night 1
I’m standing outside Motel 6 and the van is outside but it’s just my sister there, she owns the van. I left something in the van so I go to look for it. It’s missing the front passenger side door. Suddenly we’re in the parking lot of a different apartment complex next to mine and she starts driving super recklessly while I’m in the seat with no door, my arms are like wrapped backwards around the seat so I don’t fall out
Eventually we’re downtown and pass under a bridge and there’s like a long cloud that’s implied to be a battleship or something? And we pass under a railroad bridge where if you’re on the train while there’s one of these clouds you get an... Achievement?
Then I’m on foot alllll the way across town, further than I’ve ever walked. I start walking back and arrive at a small junkyard that isn’t there irl and encounter some teenagers, I walk the circuitous path to the other side of the junkyard
Night 2
I am in a supermarket and Marli and Spag are there but I can’t find them. I encounter a strange looking mascot that Spag is apparently hired as, it’s like an anthropomorphic chicken or something. For some reason it doesn’t count as Spag though. The reason is that it’s just a cardboard cutout but in the dream it’s still weird that it’s not her
I eventually encounter them outside a clothing store and like drop to the ground
Then I’m in the electronics department and there’s a really disturbing visual here
Night 3
I’m on like a stone surface that’s like a cliff face or the battlements of a castle. There’s a lady on a bike. She starts talking to me and riding the bike while I am jogging after her across all these wooden walkways suspended above water. We eventually end up in a swamp area arrive at a litle loop in the walkway with a covering, like a gazebo, but it’s broken here. Then I’m like hopping on little wooden planks here and the lady appears on the other side of the walkway break with another bike lady and they’re like “Well? Are you coming?”
Then I like sprint-jump off a half-inch wooden pole sticking out of the water by doing like a source engine thing where I hold shift then press W-Spacebar rapidly so it’s technically a sprint jump that gets me onto the walkway
Then I’m at.. A theme park or something. I’m carefully looking at these like, metal dining chairs sitting out in a plaza, one by one, each has something sown into the cushion to indicate that an important person, usually British royalty, has sat in it
This next part is really indescribable I’m in a store and the guy at the cash register is like fucking insane in a manic funny way like a reality-bending cartoon character and I keep hiding behind a blocky curtain at the window
Then all these people came in and I was behind the register and this snide kid who had the temperament of a Club Penguin user was robbing the place, narrating how she was like “Now I take this because it’s hidden here” like opening all these secret compartments of valuables she knew about
Night 4
The backstory is some sort of new rule that everyone has to live on farms or something, maybe just people like me... Like I fit whatever criteria it was
But it started with me standing on this fucking gorgeous farm just this unbelievably pure expanse around me all these mountains in the distance and a big slanted building to the west and a barn near me and I knew that this was for my own good, the air was really fresh, I was glad they’d sent me here I went into the barn near me and it was really dark and blue illuminated and furnished more like a living room, I heard the national anthem on a TV across from the couch, it was like the TV thing I think used to exist where at like midnight TV channels play the national anthem then turn to static. But it did it at like 7 AM so the static was only for like 10 seconds. The TV showed strange yellow-orange overlapping visuals that were really cool
I approached the big blue slanted buildings to the west and saw people and thought “I, and probably others affected by this rule, are gay or trans or some shit so that’s gonna create issues with these probably partly bigoted farmers”
I walk up onto this enormous,  steeply slanted, broad bed against the side of the building and lie down and just watch the rows of cauliflower and stuff and feel totally at peace, but I know that I’m looking bad just lying in this giant bed while the farmers are working and I think eventually one of them says “Aren’t you gonna come down and help?”
So I go down and suddenly below the bed is just a curbed roadside right by my apartment and the bed is gone, just the manor behind me. Suddenly I think... Eve? and some people are there and I'm standing by some kind of fruit tree. My phone is on the ground in the grass and I go to play the M.I.A. album "/\/\ /\ Y /\" and remember specifically pressing track 1 "The Message" but I don't remember it playing
I'm now like frantically planting cauliflower in the ground and harvesting it, apparently. I want to feel like I'm contributing and I think I'm like hitting the tree and it registers as clicking the cookie in cookie clicker
We decide there's some resource we need to find that's up the road and we head up to where the street is all crowded as if there's some outdoor party going on
This huge transparent orb that looks like a bubble lands and bounces and we're all like Yo that's fucking cool it's time to revisit this question: Is that a big bouncy ball or is it a particularly durable bubble that just bounced?!
This guy goes to get the bubble but then I run up and kick it and my foot sinks in and it flies down the road and it's like Oh dude it's a ball!!! and it flies down the street and bounces off a car while I chase it and the guy who was going for it before is really dejected. But then I kick it back and he's like YEAH!!! and he goes to grab it and his hands puncture it and it like bursts in slow motion, I fucking ultra tricked him, it was a bubble the whole time
Then we're all walking away up this gently sloping/spiraling stone walkway (kind of like something in a castle level of Painkiller or the Naboo level from Star Wars Super Bombad Racing) and I turn around and do this fucking bizarre intense MHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA laugh at the guy while posing like a laughing dragon ball z character (Nappa i think). then i walk up more then i turn around and do the laugh again but it has less impact this time
Then I'm in a car sitting next to Marli who is driving and she suggests we revisit WC

Where To Eat Outside When It Might Randomly Rain (1) added to Google Docs
Where To Eat Outside When It Might Randomly Rain (1)
Say what you like about London weather but there’s something reassuring in that you, me, and the person at the bus stop know that at some point it will, again, piss down. Forecast or not, whatever. You can’t really get angry at it because, like overpriced Magnums and chicken-bone-loving pigeons, it’s a thing that London is good for. Which means that when it comes to finding a restaurant in the summer when the weather is threatening to do it’s thing, you want to use this guide. It’s got the outdoor spots that will keep you and your plate fully protected.
Sorry—looks like you screwed up that email address

Want to quickly find restaurants on the go? Download The Infatuation app.   THE SPOTS  Brat Summer Residency @ Climpson’s Arch ££££ 374 Helmsley Place
Brat’s summer spot at Climpson’s Arch is one of the places to be, rain or shine, this summer. All the Basque grill favourites feature here: charred anchovy-topped flatbread, those smoky potatoes, vinegar-tinged turbot, John Dory, and even something new: pot chicken rice. Only this time you’ll be enjoying it in an outdoor courtyard protected from the heavens.
Karolina Wiercigroch Phat Phuc Noodle Bar £ £ £ £ Chinese ,  Vietnamese ,  Thai ,  Malaysian  in  Chelsea ££££ 151 Sydney St
We love Phat Phuc’s name. We love their affordable noodles and dumplings. And given the current ‘situation’, we really love that this entire restaurant is open-air in a cute little Chelsea courtyard. Weather looking terrible? Of course it is, thanks England. Don’t worry, they have a gazebo and the laksa will keep you toasty if need be.
 Darby's £ £ £ £ Seafood ,  British  in  Vauxhall ££££ 3 Viaduct Gardens Road
The oyster-loving, Guinness-pouring, Irish-American restaurant in Vauxhall has got an extremely roomy terrace complete with a canopy and tasteful shrubbery. If the forecast is saying moist for an hour or two, then this is a restaurant to set up in. Start with a crab brioche roll and a pint of the black stuff before moving onto something from the grill.
Jake Missing Flor £ £ £ £ Modern European ,  British  in  London Bridge ££££ 1 Beadle St
Over lockdown Flor launched ASAP Pizza, a sourdough pizza brand making excellent pies with things like nduja, honey, and gooey mozzarella on them, or ogleshield cheese, new potato, parsley, and capers. Although the inside of the restaurant is shut, they’ve got a sizeable walk-in seating area in Borough Market that will keep you and your little pot of salsa verde dry.
 Peckham Bazaar £ £ £ £ Mediterranean  in  Peckham ££££ 119 Consort Rd
The Eastern Mediterranean menu at Peckham Bazaar is that oh-so-familiar cliché. You know the one, about summer being on a piece of crockery? Anyway the point is that with a spot on their very cute and covered, greenery-filled terrace, with a plate of grilled octopus in front of you, you won’t even notice the thunderstorm closing in.
 Pop Brixton £ £ £ £ Burgers ,  Spanish ,  Chinese ,  Ramen ,  Indian ,  African  in  Brixton ££££ 49 Brixton Station Rd
Of all the new food markets and industrial environments, Pop Brixton is one of our favourites. Season two of The Wire aside, this is our favourite thing involving shipping containers. From the fried chicken, to the vegan burgers, to the community farm - it’s an easy place to have a good time, and there’s whole covered upstairs if the weather goes south.
Elliot's ££££ 12 Stoney St
Also protected under the sometimes leaky arches of Borough Market is Elliot’s. Everything - from their cheeseburgers to their mussels to their biodynamic wines - is done well. And they’ve launched a summer alfresco pop-up with a £29 set menu too. Book your covered outdoor table here.
LDN Guide: Where To Eat When It’s Too Hot To Be Outside Read  Primeur £ £ £ £ Modern European ,  French ,  Wine Bar  in  Stoke Newington ££££ Barnes Motors, 116 Petherton Rd
Primeur is a converted garage on a residential road near Newington Green, and when the sun has got its hat on and the main door is slid open, it’s a lovely place to be. It’s also a lovely place to be when the weather is the opposite. It’s like being on your sofa when it’s raining outside, only you’ll be eating jamon and gnudi, and drinking wine instead.
Theo's Pizzeria £ £ £ £ Pizza  in  Elephant and Castle ££££ Draper House, 17-19 Elephant and Castle
What Theo’s Elephant & Castle branch lacks for in scenery, no offence to the A3 opposite, it makes up for in covered terrace seating and top notch Neapolitan pizza. Theo’s is the neighbourhood restaurant that every area wants. The negronis are well made and not extortionate, the pizzas crisp but still floppy, and the homemade chilli sauce exceptional.
 J Sheekey £ £ £ £ Seafood  in  Covent Garden ££££ St. Martins Ct.
J Sheekey’s street-side patio is, even though you’re in a touristy part of London, relatively sheltered from the crowds. It’s also sheltered from the sky, which is helpful if it’s piddling down and you’ve just splurged on a fancy seafood tower. But even if you’re not looking to flash the cash, it’s great for a few oysters and a glass of champagne before heading elsewhere.
 Greyhound Cafe £ £ £ £ Thai  in  Fitzrovia ££££ 37 Berners Street
If you’ve made the rookie error of being out and about in central, Birkenstocks and all, without checking in with the Met Office, then let Greyhound provide you with shelter and sustenance. The enormous terrace at this slick Thai café is a great spot for some ribeye satay or a plate of fiery tuna larb.
 Pergola Paddington Central £ £ £ £ American ,  Burgers ,  Tacos  in  Paddington ££££ 5 Kingdom St
Pergola Paddington is halfway between an open food court and a Mediterranean garden, with loads of pretty plants, and an Instagram beach vibe. There are a few different food stalls and it suits best if you’re with a bigger group.
