‘“Oh,” Stede says, feeling his face fall. “You.”
“Jesus f***ing Christ,” Izzy responds. His eyes are wide with horror.
Stede lurches to his feet; his arms jerk uselessly in the confines of the rope, which remains unmoved by his desperation to wipe the remnants of Ed’s mark from his face.
“It’s not what it looks like!”
Izzy shudders. “Right. S’pose a chimney sweep attacked during the night, then.”
Stede has no rebuttal; there’s no way to explain it that doesn’t circle back, inevitably, to the desperate way Ed had kissed him, like he’d wanted them to consume each other entirely.’

Comments:
The plot is not my usual cup of tea, but once I started this story I had no qualms about finishing. The plot and characters are so interestingly written. The relationship between AI-Stede and Edward kept me constantly curious, and the tenderness with which they're written (and the ruthless way they're treated) will have you so invested in their success! Bookmark and return to it when you want something out of the box and beautiful

(Spoiler warning) wait guys... so this is just a random theory for ofmd s2 my brain spat out, but hear me out. Stede "died" (faked his death) in a pretty spectacular way and he had somewhat of a reputation by that point. People would definitly talk about it. Noone besides Mary her friend and the pirate gang knows he is alive... What If Blackbeard hears those rumors and then thinks that Stede is actually dead, maybe even thinks thats why Stede didnt show up??? and then blames himself for not searching for him?? That would be so amazingly dramatic, someone atleast write a fanfic about this

He let out a long slow breath through pursed lips and his eyes jumped up to Ed’s without his permission. He was startled to see his field partner staring back at him. Ed was facing Stede from behind his bench, hair a bit disheveled, cheeks rosy, large brown eyes gazing at him with something Stede couldn’t quite decipher in the current delirium.
“How’s it going over there?” It came out much more strangled than the chipper tone he was going for.
Ed cleared his throat, “F-fine. Just- Just fine.” Then, more than a bit breathlessly, “Is it a bit hot in here?”

Then he meets Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate, who has it all. Suddenly he can have it, too. Can be Ed again after years of Blackbeard. It’s good, so good. But his mother was right, he isn’t that kind of person; never will be. Left alone, Blackbeard goes back to the life he knows: death and destruction. But the wanting remains, never to be satisfied.

Anyone want to help me come up with a fic plot? I need some hijinks to ensue.
Mary and Doug purchase a beautiful secluded cottage on the water where they frequently meet up with "friends from out of town", or rather, Ed and Stede visit in disguise so they can have time with the kids. Everything goes beautifully for the first few days. Mary gets to relax and paint, Doug bakes and our lovey dovey pirates have a blast with Alma and Lewis.
Of course, things never stay perfect for long, and hijinks ensue. I'm thinking something along the lines of Izzy showing up and being a dick, followed by the entire crew, to tell their captains that Izzy is back and on his way. Except Izzy beats them there.
This scene of Mary and Doug sitting on loungers on a big viranda drinking marguritas and holding hands while they watch Stede and Ed play pirates with the kids is living rent free in my mind.
Another important plot point: the night that the crew shows up. Mary and Doug decide that everyone needs to stay the night. They pitch tents in the yard for the crew and everyone, kids and all lay in their sleeping bags around the campfire while Stede reads to them. Ed is helping with the voices now, and they make googley eyes at each other and pause at least once for a quick, cute little kiss. Izzy grumpily sits on a log, looking extremely disgruntled.
In the middle of the night, insert plot point happens that causes everyone, including Mary, Doug, and the kids, to have to make a quick break for the ship. The 4 of them become honaray members of the crew while they take to the high seas to protect ??? From ???
Please help. Could be free to a good home, or PM me if you want to talk. Because I struggle with things that include hijinks. Why do these ideas have to come to me?

I’m writing Izzy-centric fic and my actual angry first mate sailor boyfriend is my muse 🥰
Before OMFD I used to be bored by his work rants. Now I just take notes:
(whilst eating a pbj with a cup of soy milk) “you’re not second in command. I am!”
“no work talk in the mess.”
“don’t ask me how to do it, just do it!”
“what do want? a participation trophy?”
(after telling the deckhand to put in an order 2 weeks before) “if there’s a picture of an oil can on that laptop, I’m gonna smash it to pieces.”
“no point learning about clouds when you don’t know how to grease a ship after 4 years.”
“yes, I know how tides work. now answer the question.”
“if you don’t know, say so, don’t lie. that’s how people die.”
(my favourite) “I’m buying a pride flag for the boat. it’ll piss off the bigots.”
He’s been on the boat for almost 5 weeks straight and his badness level is set to boiling. Home in 3 days! If he orders me around even one time…

The problem with his plan (besides the obvious, which is that he has absolutely no intention of following through) is that he didn't account for the possibility that Stede would show up without anyone having to find him, red-faced and furious and bursting with love, over the side of his boat, looking all windswept and gorgeous, and challenge him to a duel.
Because that would be absolutely mental.
And that's what happens, because of course, Ed's forgotten who he's dealing with.
Ed's tired and Stede's determined. They work it out.

This on is definitely a favorite! I love how thoroughly the author explored Ed’s perspective and gave validity (or at least justification) to his emotions and actions. I also love Stede being Stede here; he is blunt and selfish and brash, but also so very sorry. He puts so much effort into winning Ed back (I’m a sucker for a grand gesture). Also, Izzy is well-written in the brief appearances he makes. Overall, an exceptional storyline and a fun read!

The Will to Act: Chapter 8 is up!
So here’s a snippet because I’m crying and misery loves company
His whole world seems to have shrunken to this room, to this bed, to the spaces between Ed’s every breath, worrying, agonizing over which one might be his last.
Stede drags himself up off the floor and onto the chair. The tea cup falls off of its saucer onto the floor, but there’s nothing left inside it to spill.
“This is all my fault,” Stede tells him, his voice wavering. He thought he’d cried himself dry already. His eyes are scratchy and aching from both the lack of sleep and his many shed tears, but water still manages to pool in their corners.
He leans forward again, careful even in his drunken state not to jostle Ed. Stede places his head gently beside Ed’s shoulder.
“I’m so sorry, Ed,” he says again. He’s said it a hundred times now, and he’ll say it a hundred more. “I thought that I could fix things. I thought that if I came back here and apologized that things could just go back to the way they were. I thought we could eat breakfast together, and share stories, and even if it wasn’t China, maybe it could be better.” Stede squeezes his eyes closed and tears slide down his nose and cheek.
“I can’t imagine a better life.”
Co-captains. Fine fabrics. Kissing on beaches.
Stede can’t form the words to account for everything he realizes he’s cost them.
“I’m sorry, love. I’m just so sorry.”

"Do you have a fever?" Blackbeard asks, voice hoarse.
Lucius cocks his head and says, "Don't think so. Do I look hot?" He winks.
Blackbeard lifts his hand and presses his fingers roughly against Lucius' forehead.
"What are you—"
"No fever," Blackbeard grunts and draws back. "Good. Didn't want to cut off your fucking hand."
Lucius drawls, "I'm touched."
Or: Lucius survives. For better or for worse.
Personal comments: Really good dialogues, really good depiction of Lucius' and Blackbeard's relationship. Fun and very well written, kudos to the author!
