Whenever i talk in favor of Chloé there have always been people telling me how she did nothing to deserve the miraculous, that she doesn't deserve a redemption, that she never showed any signs of wanting to be better. I don't agree and in this post i go in detail on why.

Since day one they've written her as a horrible person and I've never denied that. But i do say that there have been more than just signs of her being written as someone who could be better. I'm just not being blinded by hate. Let's recap some episodes... I'll try to be as brief as possible.

-Despair bear. How many of us know someone stinking rich? Maybe just from the distance? Do you really think that rich people allows their employees to talk to them the way Chloe's butler talked to her in that episode? Sure, when Chloé felt humiliated she yelled at him, but that doesn't take away that she had allowed him to get emotionally close to her. He knew her, what she had lived and how she felt. And she listened to him.

People say that her effort in this episode doesn't count because she only did it because it was convenient for her. She cared about Adrien. Even then it shows good in her. She cared about him. Adrien. Not his money, not his position, not his fame. This goes against what the writers forced on her later on season 3 finale when they said she only loved herself. - Zombizou. Oh, i love this one. People saying that she only apologized to Miss Bustier because of Chat Noir and Ladybug were there. Apologized only so she could get her miraculous again. Look at her facial expressions:

She even felt self conscious when she noticed Ladybug and Chat Noir watching them. And that wasn't an act. The character's acting is supervised by the show's director. Look how the show portrays when someone is lying, here is Lila in Protection:

And it's more than just the visuals. Go watch the episodes, listen to the music. Chloé apology do was sincere. I've also been asked "Then why didn't she apologize to Marinette?" Well, a truly shoehorned redemption arc would had her changing just like that, from one moment to the next. It feels more natural if it happens little by little, step by step.

-Malediktator. Last week i showed a video of Marinette choosing to trust Chloé with her miraculous. Let's now take a look at this scene:

Again, look at her facial expressions. She dreamed of being a hero along side Ladybug. She was so into the moment that she almost slammed against the chimney. She admired Ladybug. She wanted to be her. That was shown since season 1:

Again, more than once i've been told she only wanted the spotlight and Queen Wasp is brought as the source for that. Have we forgotten the Queen Wasp episode or are we choosing not to see what happened back then? Audrey couldn't even remember her daughter's name. She was praising Marinette, offering her the opportunity of a life time. Offering to take her to New York with her, when she hadn't even taken her own daughter with her. May the first stone be cast by whoever wouldn't truly feel jealous and hurt by something like that. Chloé had tears in her eyes. Audrey said the only exceptional thing about Chloé was being her daughter. Chloé replied (and i quote): "I'll show you how exceptional i can be!". It was then that she transformed into Queen Bee for the first time and it was after that that she did the thing where she put the train in danger so she could be the hero to save everyone. Wrong, yes. But again, this was a character that was just beginning a redemption journey. She didn't want fame, she was looking for her mother's love.

-Miraculer. Come on... How can people say she didn't try to be better? She was being offered power and she rejected that.

Yes, later she embraced the akumas, but till before season three's finale she had been written differently. That was a character that could truly become a good person. That didn't happen not because she didn't have the potential, but because the writers didn't allow that to happen. Let's not forget she's a fictional character. I mean, in Lilo and Stitch. Stich was genetically designed to want to destroy everything and even for a character like him there was redemption. It comes down to whether the writers want to write that path for a character or not.

Then Mayura tried again, she offered her the chance to retain the bee miraculous. If Chloé had truly only wanted the spotlight she could had accepted the offer. She wanted to be a hero and this time not to impress her mother. Not because she wanted the attention from the media. Come on, she's super rich. If she only wanted to be famous she could have easily made that happen. This scene was a huge mistake from the writers and they tried to patch it up with Miracle Queen episode:

They knew they were going to keep handing the same miraculous to same people. Alya has been even trusted with the Ladybug miraculous twice! So, of course they had to write the Miracle Queen episode to say "Look, she's bad, she can't be trusted." I don't know how much of the fandom didn't like that, so what did they do: "Chloé hate campaign" all along season 4. And now what they're giving us for season 5. And all this,... Why? For what? To represent people who will never change? That's an excuse and season 2 and most of season 3 are proof of that.

If after this recap you still think that she was never written trying to be better,... I'm sorry, but it would be that you don't want to see it, not that it wasn't there.

it's good to see you around again, I missed reading your long ILY posts, hope you're doing better too :) if you ever share your thoughts on the latest couple of episodes (including fp) here, I'd be super excited to read them! I'm really curious how you think the timeline is gonna go from here - especially relating to Shin-Ae and Nolan since it feels like they are the last pieces that need to fall into place so everything is ready for the post-timeskip story to go down. like you, I was so sure Nol and Shin-Ae were going to have some kind of reconciliation before he goes to jail but WELP rip 3 day extension. Poor guy though, Yui showing up in his hospital room must have been extremely triggering, it made sense that he did everything to get outta there ASAP. It's worrying me that this series of negative interactions (Kousuke, Alyssa, Yui) could've undone everything positive Shin-Ae Dieter Soushi Nana did, and now therapy during jail time could either have a positive or negative effect, so Nol is a Schroedinger's cat for now.... At least some things got cleared up and Shin-Ae is now starting to understand the root of the problem (= Yui) (and it actually really makes sense that she had to figure it out herself instead of Nol telling her - the boy obviously isn't ready to talk) so we made some progress.... But istg with this upcoming separation arc 2.0 it feels so much like we're gonna be back at ground zero after the first time skip. Fingers crossed they reconcile in whatever way before the big time skip though. we need a somewhat positive conclusion to this arc before season 1 ends, because if not then what was all this build up for, and why now? What about the realizations? the "convince me"? What about "if you won't let me have you"? If their reconciliation is only going to happen after multiple years of "conflict" between them that would be so cruel....

AND SHIN-AE STILL HASN'T GOTTEN HER BANDANA BACK and now he's stealing her lines too SDGDADSF;SDF

Waaaahhhhh thank you, friend!!! As you can probably tell, I'm still trying to get myself back here fully and figure out how to balance everything, which has always been a struggle ;~; I really may resort to telling my friends to ignore me and yell at me until I get certain posts written up so I'll stop procrastinating because there are SO MANY THINGS I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT EPISODES I WANT TO RECAP AND TALK ABOUT!!!! BUT THE ORGANIZING MYSELF!!!! IS THE PART THAT'S SO DIFFICULT!!!!!!!!

One of the great things about the ILY discord server is that we have this very constant, active conversation going on at all times so it's SO easy to be very present and active, but I also find that it means it's more difficult for me to regulate myself, or I'll have that feeling that I JUST talked about something and so when I try to write about it over here, it feels like a hollow echo and I know that's just because I was just having the conversation so that's just something I need to work on dealing with lol

But I want to answer this before we move so far away from when you asked this!!!!! As expected, there are FP spoilers ahead for eps 246 through 249!!!!!

I!!!! DO NOT KNOW!!!!!!! LMAO Like. GOD. I feel like quimchee has thrown us curveball after curveball and when we sit down and think about how long this period of December 21 and the post December 21 arc has been, how much the story has weaved around?! There are so many things that have occurred that I NEVER expected and, like you, it's just everything I thought has clearly gone out the window. Part of it, I think, is the result of quimchee having to change the arrangement of her story, and god I would love to pick her brain about the things that changed, since Nol's injury was supposed to happen at the formal itself, we never would have had this extended period of hospital time, and it seems like everything about Nol and Shinae coming to realization with their feelings would have played out in a wholly different way than what we ended up getting, so on some level I think this is partly that quimchee, too, is sort of throwing herself cureveballs in that there are things she knows needs to happen and she isn't sure where or how to fit the other elements in? But that's just my guess.

On the one hand, I do feel very "WHAT WAS THE EXTENSION FOR IF NOT FOR RECONCILIATION?!" but beyond Stalkyoo, we have gotten a LOT of good stuff out of this period of time. We see Kousuke facing his cognitive dissonance for, perhaps, the first time, and the revelation that Yui has been drugging him (and likely for a long time, given the way Hansuke describe the dosage Kousuke had and that it merely knocked him out), and more than that, making those connections between Nol and Yui and tea, and wanting to face him. I'm STILL proud of him for wanting to go back and see Nol again, even after he couldn't face him, even after Hansuke found him on the floor of a public bathroom hugging a toilet from the remorse and guilt and perhaps shame of the realization of the ways he has hurt people - has hurt Nol! - who didn't deserve it. We have seen that Rand and Yujing are, in fact, working on something behind the scenes, that Rand is facing Yui as a real adversary now, not just someone who has been resigned to endure her for so many years now, but to actually fight against her. The entirety of Nol's birthday celebration could not have happened the way it did had he not been in the hospital, since he would have had to turn himself in, and while maybe the original plan was that they celebrated his birthday with Minhyuk's coming home party, I'm.... not sure if that would have been the case?

But at at any rate, I do acknowledge that despite the fact that it feels like Nol might be back at square one, that he and Shinae are back where they started in 151, such significant events HAVE taken place that I think will still affect the narrative future of ILY. I still feel strongly that part of Nol's trajectory is coming to terms with the fact that he does, indeed, belong here. That he isn't someone who wasn't meant to be, that he doesn't belong here. He belongs, and he deserves love. He is someone, not nothing. I still think one of his greater arcs will involve coming to embrace this, and while the negative events - Kousuke, Alyssa, Yui - feel like they could be setting him back, he is now equipped with knowledge and feelings he wasn't before. It can't hurt him the same. In fact, I think part of why his confrontation with Alyssa went the way it did was because he had had this experience with Shinae, Dieter, and Soushi, it illuminated everything that was so wrong with his relationship with Alyssa, how neither of them really know each other. It's that sense of foiling that allows him to put his foot down and say enough is enough. Even before it was revealed that Alyssa had come with Yui, it was clear that Nol was over the visit. Don't get me wrong - I understand why he couldn't see that Alyssa clearly was not well, that she was uncomfortable, that she had come to him with no one else to go to, much as he'd gone to Kousuke in the past when he lost his mom, and I also understand why he did the same thing Kousuke did and turned her away. But the point I'm getting at is, it feels like there was a shift. That birthday celebration illuminated something for Nol.

So it's kind of like, while it feels like this might have undone the progress Nol made, it can't undone the revelations he's had, and in that same way, it cannot cast shadow on his enlightenment. He is not the same Nol he was a week ago. Too much has changed, he's become aware of too much, and as such, he is going to respond differently to what comes his way, and while he may continue to try what he had originally intended, I think the difference is that he's now been made aware of things that impact the choices he makes.

But largely I don't really know what I expect just yet. I think it's very pointed that the lawyer reminded Shinae that she has his phone number; I don't think that would be called out if it wasn't going to be important in some way, but in terms of how are we going from here to there? Unsure lol. I think there HAS to be a resolution of some kind, whether it's a reconciliation or not, because Shinae is on this momentum swing that isn't going to stop until she crashes into something or she comes into a force of nature that stops her. Nothing, no one, has been able to reach her or get through to her, and I know it's just because of how much she's hurting, but she's lashing out at people and hurting THEM like a street cat swiping at people trying to help her. She's so terrified of losing Nol, especially now that he came back, especially now that she gave him the option to leave and he didn't and it rekindled that hope she gave him an opening to leave when it would have been easier and he didn't which just made it worse, because so much more was at stake. She can't stop fighting she can't stop trying because she cannot bear what it means to lose him for real this time, not when she finally had him back, not when that realization has come to her even if she won't admit it. She needs him, so what's going to make her give up?

Something has to transpire, whether it's a reconciliation or Nol pushing her away and really shattering her heart or something awful like that, to bring her to a halt, because I can't imagine how we would move into our mini time skip to spring/graduation with Shinae like this, right? So I think there must be some kind of resolution. My foolish, hopeless self wants so badly to hope for reconciliation but esp after 249 I am SO torn. I have two thoughts.

a. they reconcile. She can reach him, and convince him, and even though he is so afraid, he is also someone who folds in front of her, he struggles to resist her. He told her to convince him and boy she can convince him and even though he tells himself he isn't sure if these feelings are real because what if it's just because she's NICE to him I think hearing her confess her feelings would tell him how he feels and give him the answer.

b. But the alternative feels like a parallel to Nessa and Rand, because Nessa, too, was hurt over and over by someone who kept getting her hopes up and getting hurt by him. Shinae gave Nol the opportunity to leave and he didn't, he stayed and doing so sparked her hope, made her feel things, they shared these tender, intimate moments together and forced that realization to come to mind, but for him to push her away again, for her safety, to make choices on her behalf even though she's told him she hates that and she doesn't want him to. Imagine her pulling a Nessa and calling him scum lfkjajkfkjfjkfaj ;A;!!!!! Imagine her so angry and hurt and resentful and saying awful things she doesn't mean and GOD I feel like it can go only one of these ways because what ELSE is going to stop her in her tracks?!

And I really want a reconciliation because parting like this sets them up for SO. MUCH. STRIFE. Because we know one way or another Shinae is going to end up taking Yui's offer and if Nol leaves on these terms, he would end up thinking she's following in Alyssa's footsteps doing so, not understanding WHY she's doing, not understanding that this is Shinae's only way of protecting herself, learning to speak Yui's language and play her game.

and idk I know I'm a hopeful optimist reading a webtoon that proves to me over and over that I cannot be a hopeful optimist but LMAO GOD I WANT SHINAE TO CONVINCE THAT DUMBO

I've said it before that convincing him doesn't mean they have to get into a relationship. Just. Reconcile. She's so afraid of LOSING HIM, thinking that once he slips away he's out of her grasp, her sight, for good, that she will lose the best thing that happened to her and I WANT THAT RECONCILATION. I want her to convince him, for both their sakes. So that he knows he has someone he can go back to. So that she knows he's not just throwing her away. So that she doesn't have to fear losing something so precious and important.

Am I foolish and hopeful for hoping for that outcome? Maybe, but it won't stop me LMAO because as delicious and angsty as Shinae and Nol following in Ressa's footsteps with Nol hurting her again and leaving her so hurt and angry is, I want to see them on that same page. I want to see Shinae convince him - convince him why he is so important to her, and that his feelings are real. That's the thing, right, like.... you can tell yourself that your feelings aren't real, but if the person you like confesses to you, your heart will inevitably betray you and respond to the confession. Nol fears for Shinae's safety but important puzzle pieces are falling into place. She has figured what he fears the most - and if she thinks hard enough she'll realize how she can use that to her "advantage", in that Rand has told her Yui will never let her go, that it doesn't matter if Nol leaves or not. It goes back to my oft repeated sentiment of them needing to be on the same page, to be a team, because his absence will not protect her. And between what Rand told her, plus her anecdotes about Kousuke's birthday and how Yui treated her even before the formal, and what Yujing told Nol about Kousuke being drugged by Yui, maybe, just MAYBE that conclusion that wasn't only him all along will finally hit him. I know he can't change over night, that he has so many deeply ingrained fears that won't be easily assuaged, but I have to hope that a confession from Shinae can convince him that the alternative is worse. Convince him to fight along side her ;A;

I go back and forth on this thought but I think this is strongly what I feel right now. That reconciliation could still be around the corner, even if it's just an admission and a promise to not push her away. Shinae is tired of people acting on her behalf, tired of not getting a say, and especially in something that involves her heart, her feelings?

Go fight girl and maybe bite him if that's what it takes ;A;

tell me how you'd adapt the book you're most itching to talk about at this moment!

ok so for this one im going to talk about rivers of london, a book series that is theoretically going to actually GET a tv adaptation (ben aaronovitch i am FREE i have THOUGHTS you can hear those thoughts at micamicster dot tumblr dot com).

I have a LOT of thoughts please brace yourselves.

I've talked about it on here before, but to recap: it's a series of detective novels set in a fantasy london of the 2000s. The narrator and protagonist, a biracial police officer (im so sorry for posting about cops. this series and elementary get me every time), discovers the existence of magic when he interviews a ghost as a witness to a murder. In the first book he apprentices with a wizard, becomes embroiled in a territory dispute between the gods of the titular Rivers (most of whom are black women), and attempts to solve the murder the story opened with.

There's like 9(? im not caught up) novels that follow this, so there's a lot of material to work with. They're all solid detective novels in their own right, with each one following a specific case, as well as expanding the magical universe, and contributing to a series-long arc.

Okay I think the biggest draws a potential tv show would have are a) the addictive combination of the detective/mystery genre and the fantasy elements. The rivers are both an intriguing element of the magic system and great characters in their own right. b) the protagonist (funny. observant. self-deprecating. immediately begins conducting scientific experiments on magic in an attempt to establish units... i love you peter). So any tv show would need to make the most of those elements! We would need equal attention paid to the central mystery and to developing the unique magic system. And, as the author himself has said, we would need a charismatic powerhouse of a lead actor to carry the show!

I think that the first book could easily be a single season of tv--there's a TON going on, and a lot of characters to introduce! However I do really love the idea of having multiple cases per season, in a nod to the detective procedural format. So i would most likely have the first 3 books cases happen in the first season, with 2-3 episodes dedicated to each case, while the rivers conflict is a season long arc. This would give us more time with the rivers in general and beverly specifically (beverly brooke my beloved <3) to compensate for the fact that the second and third books in the series don't deal as much with the rivers, so they won't feel absent while those cases are being dealt with.

I might push leslie's arc back slightly, so that as the rivers conflict gets solved she shows up again? And then end season 2 with the broken homes arc. This would require adding some additional cases to season 2 but with the graphic novels and the novellas i think there's a wealth of material to draw from for some straightforward 2-episode cases, while giving more room to the personal stuff and character arcs.

I've been fantasizing about an opening credit sequence that's like an animated map of london's rivers, beginning in antiquity and with the city springing up around it over the centuries until we reach the modern day. Would that i could animate! or draw for that matter...

I also have a soundtrack ive made for this show that does not exist yet. ben aaronovitch i am available! i can make time in my residency to contribute to this show i swear i can! I'll link to it if anyone would like <3

The tv show is unlikely to get made tbh but i just think it could be SO much fun :(

Hello, hello, my little monsters! How's the week been treating you guys? How's life and coping with the best ever season going? (≡^∇^≡)

Today's little post to keep the spirits up is just a throwback Thursday post! I don't really do these much, but I guessed since I missed last year that I could give a recap of that!

Lets begin by saying that last year was CRAZY. I don't know if you guys are aware that San works at this supernatural club, I might've never mentioned it, but he does. When I tell you he came home one day and the first thing I did was embarrass myself–. (*´ー｀*)

How often does YOUR lover become the King of Hell? That alone let me tell you made for a never thought before experience. Not saying I hated it, though!

Last year there was a huge party in town too! Well, out of it, actually. It was so fun and exciting! I've never before attended such an elaborate event, I don't think. Of course, I've attended awesome parties, but this was a whole Halloween Town kind of thing. It was just out of the city, and let me tell you, I'm still not over it. Sadly, I couldn't bring San along as he was suffering from making-people-too-hot syndrome, but it totally is on my bucket list for the next time they come around!

I think last year was the first time my friends and I actually explored a lot more outside of our comfort zone. We usually keep to the city for safety reasons, we know everywhere we go, we have friends and family nearby, it's easy to catch a car to go back home–. But we found SO many amazing haunted houses, labyrinths, fairs, and photo spots just outside of the city. I'm super thrilled to explore more this year because most of these really last the entirety of autumn season, so I want to make sure I get to experience all of it.

It's been a while since I've moved here, and I find it that I'm still very new and unfamiliar with most stuff, so I think the biggest thing last Halloween left me was the knowledge that theres more than just city events, I guess? (o≧▽≦)ﾉ

I have SO much content from last year that I never got to share, so I'll make sure to make a post ONLY for it. A small gallery let it be, for all of you interested, of course, and just to keep a record of one of the best Halloweens ever!

The Ultra Stage: The greatest hero - some final thoughts PART 1/3

I have no professional training to do reviews, so I'm commenting just as a fan of MHA, musicals and the previous Ultra Stage adaptations. First of all, I watched it three times, all in Tokyo, the opening day with Shin Tamura as Deku, and then the 6th (both shows that day) where Yasuhito (the understudy) played Deku, because Tamura was sick. So this post will be a summary of all three dates experiences, but here in part 1 I will focus on small background scenes, differences between shows and Deku.

THE PLOT / HOW CLOSE TO THE MANGA

As usual, the musical is pretty loyal to the plot. They slightly changed the order of one thing as they introduced the license exam and the meeting of the other schools before the naming of their special moves.

The musical starts with a recap of Bakugou and Deku, their childhood, middle school, sludge, previous fights and Kamino. In general the theme of the musical is that All Might has fallen, and the next greatest hero are Deku and Bakugou both. The musical centers then both as protagonists, while in previous stages usually Deku was front and centre.

Then we see the teachers convincing the parents, the rooms challenge, we meet the other schools for the exam, and then the students decide the names of their heroes moves. The license exam takes the rest of the first act, and the first part of the second act, while the second part of the second act is Deku vs Kacchan 2. The musical ends with Bakugou and Deku cleaning the dormitories.

The last song is the only song that is not new: "I want to be a hero". But it's acted much differently than usual. In the setting, Deku faces adversity and is attacked by enemies. Bakugou fires an AP shot and frees him, before walking up a ramp and out of the stage. The rest of the song sees Deku being kind of thrown from class 1a student to student, as if they can't save him. The last one is Kirishima who grabs him but then Deku falls right in front of Bakugou, and the stage only illuminates them. This is a call back of the start of the musical, when Deku is shoved onto the ground, while Bakugou taunts him. This time it almost looks like the musical is teasing the possibility of Bakugou offering his hand to Deku.

The rest of the song is done with both Deku and Bakugou at the center, instead of focusing on Deku as usual in the previous stages.

DEKU

As I said, Shin Tamura is recovering from tonsillitis, so the second and third show I watched had his understudy Yasuhito. You can find his twitter at yasuhito_nk.

Shin Tamura was amazing as usual, and he'll probably be back for the dvd recording the 21st! So I'll mainly talk about Yasuhito. If I had to describe the difference between them, I think I could say that Yasuhito feels much more like season 1 Deku, his voice is higher, amazing powerful singing voice too, and maybe because Shimura's clothes are bigger for him, he also looked smaller! He did feel more insecure, and season 1 Deku, than Tamura whom, I think, has a more commanding presence. They are also so good at expressing strong emotion on stage with their body language (as the face is not always visible to the audience), and he often grasped his own shirt to express nervousness. At the end of Deku vs Kacchan 2, he also seemed readier to keep fighting and his fists were balled up when Kacchan won.

I'm a bit sad that we won't hear a recording of his songs, because his voice was so powerful!!

BACKGROUND INTERACTIONS

The musical had a lot of fun background interactions between characters! I probably missed so many! Here are some cute ones I noticed. I'll vaguely go in order if characters.

Iida and Ochako interacts A LOT. Ochako in general is very energetic! Her and Deku jumped around like nerds when they saw Ms Joke. Ochako also fainted when she saw Momo's bed, and Iida had to pick her up, but she kept falling down. Another cute thing, she tried to out-oui Aoyama when they announced Sato as the winner of the room competition. She also was the first character to jump in to talk to Bakugou after the school started again (so the first time the students see themselves since Kamino), and she tried to cover Tsuyu's view when Bakugou makes Kaminari use his quirk.

Todoroki was hilarious. My eyes were always on him basically. During the room song he was constantly doozing off and sleepy, and got mad when Aoyama's dazzling took woke him up. The actor is a great dancer, so it's always fun to see him act in dance scenes because he pretend to be constantly confused. Another funny moment was when Aoyama showed him his license (because Todoroki didn't pass), and Todoroki picked it up but accidentally burnt it, and then run after Aoyama to apologize.

Mina was amazingly energetic too! Definitely hard to miss! She exchanged some words with Kirishima about his new costume, one show I saw her nudging Aizawa after they met Ms Joke. She also teases Bakugou a bunch and notably she's one of the few characters who does not slowly back away from him. At the end, she has different versions of her teasing, when Bakugou is vacuuming the dorms. In one occasion she took the cable of the vacuum and pulled it around him, to trap him inside.

Aoyama is such a star. I just wanted to write that one if the funniest scenes is right at the end when he throws glitter everywhere while Bakugou and Deku are vacuuming.

Most of Deku and Bakugou backgrounds scenes were looking at each other (ex. When Bakugou gives Kirishima the money, Deku states at him and follows him almost), or with Mineta, Todoroki and Iida (for Deku), Kirishima for Bakugou.

WHAT CHANGES

The show was overall identical all three times! Only a few scenes changed. In order of appearance:

1) Eraserhead and Mic intermission thing, plus their interaction with Aoyama later change! Some I've seen: Erasermic talking about sea creatures and algae, Mic complaining that he sees all orange (and Aizawa explains that it's because of his glasses, later he brings him an orange to ask him what colour it is), something about driving. The scenes with them and Aoyama I've seen were instead one about Aoyama doing cpr on Aizawa with "merci!", one that i could not really get but it seemed like word play and it ended up cracking Aizawa's actor so much that he could not stop laughing and start the next line (he had to hide his face in his scarf), and the third one I've seen had Aoyama singing a song about himself.

2) There is a scene where Aizawa and Mineta introduce the dorms. Iida joins and these are a bit different, but I could not tell what they were saying 😅. In the last one tho, Iida was song singing something, and then talking but Aizawa and Mineta left him on the stage.

3) The BUNNY! The bunny scenes change too. During the room introduction, Bakugou comes out dressed as Koda's rabbit. In the first I've watched, everyone fawns over him, he hops like a rabbit and then him and Koda hug. In the second I've seen, Bakugou stomps out very Bakugou like. Koda asks him for his name, and Bakugou replies grumpily before stomping out. In the third scene I've seen, he walks out and everyone is fawning over him.... Then Deku pats his head, and Bakugou yells something angry at him before stomping away. Deku is left looking in disbelief, and he rubs his eyes as if not understanding why the rabbit is so Kacchan like.

4) There were other very small changes here and there. For example, Aoyama interacts a bit with Seiji after he is revealed to not have passed. In one case, Aoyama teaches him how to do the classic oui pose, in another he was teaching him some dance moves!

5) Another small difference was in the interaction between Itejiro and Bakugou. In one case, they exchanged words while Itejiro was walking on the ramp, in another they were actually about to fight, and Kirishima had to manhandle Bakugou away.

6) Also, when the class does their Plus ultra, Bakugou grumpily partecipates, so that's always a bit different. And one time, Inasa took off the blood on his face before walking away, instead of walking away with it, and the students were surprised (it was funny!).

7) Only the first day we had the cast coming out to say a few things! I'm not sure if the next day it did not happen because Tamura was not there, or if it just happens on the opening show.

Alright Season 3 lets give it up for season 3 everyone.

Cannot believe this show left me on "How do you know what you brought back it 100% pure Sam?" and I just said to myself

supernatural s15e20 carry on (w. andrew dabb)

well. i started watching this show last year around end of february. more or less since maybe a bit through s1, i've been watching one episode a day. sometimes it takes me a few days to get through one episode, other times i need a break because of some bad stuff in the episode prior. i've been posting a recap thing for every episode since about midway through s4.

297 posts under my spnwatch tag, which has some doubles because of reblogs when i split up the watch etc. so yeah, only a year of my life, but i've spent so many hours writing about the show now that it's like i'm wrapping up some large project by finishing it. that said, because i didn't write up those first few seasons (only when i recognized someone and did a hey i know you), i do think i might go back and write those up when i start a rewatch. so i have a project extension waiting in the wings 🤪

i made a fanvid, i've made spn gifs and even some j2 gifs

i've also painted a good amount of things from the show now

so i guess this is all to say, this show has been so creatively inspiring and i'm thankful for that - despite all my regular complaining, i do care so much for these two characters and the relationship they forged and shared on screen over all these years. i'm late to the party but i'm glad i got here nonetheless

i'm nervous to watch this episode. i know the main moments but not how it plays out. and i've been upset about and complained about dean's ending for many a season knowing it was coming down the pike

i gather there's no official time on when this takes place, but that jared has said 5 years later and the script linked from the wiki said 6 months but however long it was apparently sam has learned to use a towel with a hot pan handle in this little domestic slice of life montage

DEAN What? What's wrong? SAM Nothing. I'm fine. DEAN No, come on. I know that face. That's, uh... That Sad Sam face. SAM I'm not Sad Sam. I'm just... I'm thinking about Cass, you know? Jack. If they could be here. DEAN Yeah, no. I think about 'em, too. You know what? That pain's not gonna go away. Right? But if we don't keep living, then all that sacrifice is gonna be for nothing. So, quit being a friggin' Eeyore, huh? Come on.

can't complain about going out on a monster of the week episode vs the any of the prior ridiculous mainplots

is it happening already? there's a barn. and vampires. i mean, that's kind of funny that they brought back some very minor evil side character and immediately killed her off. ok well and they showed us dean once narrowly missing the rebar so i guess so.

i knew i wasn't going to handle dean dying well, and i'm not handling it well. he's so young and they went through so much misery for basically his entire life. and insult to injury is sam having to live without him for so long.

DEAN I must have stood outside your dorm for hours... because I didn't... I didn't know what... What you would say. I thought you'd tell me to... to get lost or get dead. And I don't know what I would've done... if I didn't have you. 'Cause I was so scared. I was scared, 'cause when it all came down to it, it was always you and me. It's always been you... and me. SAM Then don't leave me. Don't leave me. I can't do this alone. DEAN Yes, you can. SAM Well, I don't want to.

and with the callback to the pilot moment and exchange about doing it alone...

DEAN Hey. I'm not leaving you. I'm gonna be with you... (Dean is crying as he places his fist over Sam's heart) Right here... every day. Every day you're out there and you're Li... And you're living and you're fighting, 'cause you... You always keep fighting. You hear me? I'll be there every step. I love you so much. My baby brother. Oh, man. Well, I did not think this would be the day. But it is. It is, and that's... Man... that's okay. I need you to... I need you to promise me. I need you to... To... to tell me... that it's okay. I need you to tell me that it's okay.

i really hate everything about him dying like this but i can appreciate the words they gave us for their love for each other.

i really would like to finish this in one go because i don't want to be crying for two days.

not a fan of the licensed music choices jay gruska (ofc) made. lyrics fit but music itself, pass. maybe for the best, if there was something better in this collection of sam grieving i might not be able to handle it. not really handling now either tbf

DEAN So, Jack did all that? BOBBY Well... Cass helped.

that mean cas is out of the empty then? i'd think i would know that, and with jack fixing everything that would make sense

DEAN It's almost perfect. BOBBY He'll be along. Time up here, it's... it's different.

but it isn't for sammy... but i guess he's happy with his kid and blurry wife and all that, so.

if they were gonna do the gray wig on jared, the least they could have done was some aging makeup as well

counted i think 3 variations of the mushy music theme between dean dying, something else i don't wanna backtrack for, and on the bridge

i know this is a happy ending but just like i considered a fic where the mains die in the last moments when they're old still mcd, this falls under the same kind of thing for me personally. some things make me cry, and it's cathartic. i cry easily, obviously. this is engineered to make me sob and i don't like the premise of him dying early, or that we had to follow the story through them dying to reunite in heaven. it surely adds to the romance of the story, but i also find it incredibly upsetting and i don't particularly like feeling this way. so this is why i'd been dreading this episode for months.

so, that's that, i guess.

Eric Kripke revealed in an interview with EW, that after learning of the show's planned ending, he had attempted to think of different ones to pitch back to Andrew Dabb and Bob Singer, but ultimately came to the conclusion that their planned ending was the right one. Saying of his proposed alternate ending: "There's only one scene that I haven't done that I would've done for the end of the show and I'm certainly not going to give it away, maybe one day I will. But I can assure the fans that my ending was so much darker than the ending they're going with, so anyone who's like, 'Kripke should've ended it,' I'm like, 'You would've hated my ending!' Because it was a horror movie and it was going to have a horror movie ending, so I can promise you the ending [they went with] you'll love much more than if you had let me end the show."

i can only imagine and yes i'm sure i would have hated it too

Dean II: Dad. It's okay. You can go now.

As he described at the November StageIt panel, it was Jared's idea to mirror Dean's death with Sam's. The line "You can go now" was inspired by what director Bob Singer related he had said to his own father.

yeah yeah. my mom made me tell my dad this too when he was dying from cancer when I was 16.

Episode 10 season 2

NCISverse crossover

Here's the thing, I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted/should post this recap, mainly because I don't like crossovers, in a very personal opinion, I think they just interrupt character continuity stories to focus on a case that has no relevance within the context of the season. I'll do the recap and come back later to my opinions.

First Katherine

The growth that my blondie has had within the series is something impressive, and every day makes me love her more, the way we meet her as someone who works with the team only if she has to and as she progresses she becomes more and more a main and indispensable part of the investigations.

Plus the dynamic she has created to work with each of the team members, it seems like she is one of them and not just the FBI liaison.

Another thing is that we see her always firm with what she knows is the right thing to do and needs to be done, Kate follows the rules and does things the way they should be, but she knows that the rules sometimes need to be ignored when doing the right thing is different than what the rules say.

You guys know one of my favorite things in NCIS Hawai'i is Ernie and Kate working together, the way they are both so different but it just makes sense the moment they need to discover/find something, it's like being so different helps them be equals and complement each other as they work. And I love that Kai doesn't understand them but he does

That's what I was telling you, when they are wrapped up in the work, it's like they are one, where Ernie goes, Kate goes

And the moment we've all been waiting for finally arrived, Katherine Marie Whistler in a bulletproof vest 👀

Back to the growth she's had and how much her character proved it in this crossover (and she proves it with every episode not just this time) we see her back in the field

Showing that she has been training and that she remembers her mistakes very well, checks her blind spots, doesn't get ahead of herself, waits for any noise and is attentive to everything around her

And even when she is surprised to see the wall with the photos of all the members of the teams involved, she is alert to what she hears

And that's how we get to the best scene of the episode, Kate pointing straight ahead, not backing away or giving any sign of giving in to what he's telling her to do

One more thing I NEED to point out, is the way Kai doesn't doubt for a second that if he takes the shot, he's not going to miss, more than to prove a point, I KNOW he was doing it to assure Kate that he was going to protect her. Because he says it in response to Callen, but if you pay enough attention, you can tell he's looking at her

They're siblings, fighting crime together. And anyone who says otherwise can argue with the wall

She's this size 🤏🏼 and Kai too, they're both babies fighting the bad guys

as promised, i am resharing some of my art threads from twitter over here. to recap, as a history major and art nerd, i have always loved looking at the art shown in the sets of period drama, but it was really striking to me how obviously intentional it was being used to assist in telling story in The Gilded Age (plus Impressionist lover Mrs Sylvia Chamberlain was just begging for it).

while part of it is about identifying the art because i do love an easter egg, the other part i find really interesting is thinking about how art reflects character and story. so, i started thinking more about art in The Good Fight/The Good Wife, and i started a twitter thread and it became a season long thing this year for the final season.

this post is part 1 of 2 about the art in The Good Fight/The Good Wife, and in particular, Diane Lockhart's impeccable art taste. so, without further ado...

Well as you can imagine, the David Jenkins IG is the big news of today. The clowning forecast has gone up significantly. Dad posted one of the late-blooming SaveOFMD banners in NY and attached Elton John - Candle In The Wind to the post. This song has some very specific significance to our fandom.

Alrighty lovelies. It's been another busy day. Lots of clowning, lots of hope, lots of emotional roller coasters. I hope you had a good time and generally it was more positive than negative. I have a lot I want to say, but my brain is still pretty foggy. So I'll make this short.

Sometimes when things go well, our brain gets excited and then they overcompensate when we calm down. It starts to think a lot more negatively because it had so much extra dopamine for a time. When that happens, little things can be really devastating. I just want you to remember that we all make mistakes and YOU, you beautiful imperfect being are not your mistakes. They hurt, and we learn from them, but they don't define us. Try not to listen to your brain if it's telling you otherwise. You are so very wonderful.

Anyway, I hope that makes sense.

Here's a picture I found today I thought really applied to all you wonderful people. Thank you to all the folks who reached out to me and checked in and sent me love when you knew I was struggling (there are too many to list and I don't know if you want to be tagged so please just know how much I appreciate you). Yellowjackets Season 1 Recap & Review

Riddle me this: How would your life have been affected if you had not only survived a plane crash that ended with the deaths of several people, but also ended up stranded in the wilderness through the winter as a result? Yellowjackets is a dramatic tv series centering around just that.

Now, it's important to know that the events of the show switch between the past and present days of the characters we follow. I personally love media that does this because it does show how trauma works in the sense of flashbacks that put you back in the mindset you had in the midst of the original event, as well as how we think about past events that shaped us into our current selves. The then and now perspective of the show offers both understanding and questioning of the now we watch the girls now turned women navigate. While I enjoy that back-and-forth perspective of the show, I'll be reviewing one timeline at a time for the sake of making this easier to read and write. So let's get into a Fizziepop take on season 1 of Yellowjackets.

For anyone who hasn't watched the first season of Yellowjackets, this is your sign to do it as soon as soon as you get the chance

*WARNING: THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE SEASON IN QUESTION, I SUGGEST WATCHING THIS SEASON BEFORE READING.*

The Recap:

It's 1996, the Yellowjackets are a high school soccer team whose girls are going to nationals in Seattle... that is until their plane crash lands in the wilderness. While most of the girls survive this tragedy, most of the adults do not and the singular coach who does becomes an amputee after one of the girls takes charge of the situation.

After mourning the passing of the flight crew, and their friends and coaches, the girls eventually wonder away from the crash site in an attempt to find food and shelter. When the survivors of the crash eventually find an abandoned cabin in the woods, they take it over and begin trying to make the best of their lives given the situation they've found themselves in; their hope of being rescued dwindling as the days pass.

While each character has their own storyline, we only truly focus on those that we'll follow into adulthood, this being said, the characters we follow show not only their true feelings and insecurities, but also the lengths they're willing to go to keep themselves and their hope alive. A great example of this is the character Misty Quigley, the team's not-so-popular equipment manger, purposely breaking the tracker from the plane after the crash in an attempt to keep the survivors stranded because she felt valued when she was able to give her direction in first aide. Misty is portrayed as the odd duck of the group and therefore feels the need to be the center of attention and most trusted, valued member of the group, equating her almost forced popularity with the others genuinely liking her. In contrast, the character Jackie Taylor shows her true colors when she feels her influence and slowly begins to let her sweet, nice to everyone popular girl persona slip. On the other end of the scale, we watch as both Lottie Matthews and Taissa Turner slip into madness; Lottie's seeming to be a form of mental illness that she's no longer medicated for, and Taissa's being one due to trauma.

As the months go by, Lottie begins to take over as a leader under the guise of her believing herself to be more in tune with the earth and it's inhabitants and things greater than us that only she can seem to comprehend. Though this gives a sense of hope and security to a large part of the group as winter approaches and food becomes scarce, not everyone feels so comforted by Lottie's newfound status.

On the other hand, we have a different storyline intermingling with this as the events of the crash from their high school days follow them into adulthood in the form of an unnamed character that seems to be stalking 4 of the survivors. As the stalking continues, the former yellowjackets are forced to reunite and revisit the memories they tried to push down from '96. While the character haven't changed too much, it seems that their friendships dwindled after the getting home, most of them seemingly not having spoken to each other since getting home and getting back into some sense of normality; two of the girls even having families of their own now. But that all seems to be taking a sharp turn as the women are blackmailed, stalked, and forced to do what they feel they need to in order to keep their secrets safe.

The Review:

Getting into the review side of things, I have very few complaints about the series thus far. The characters are well written and don't seem to lose their individuality unless its relevant to their storyline (i.e. Misty feeling the need to be popular, Shauna feeling the need to try to mimic Jackie in ways in order to get out of her shadow, or Jackie trying to do what's expected of her to keep popularity prior to the crash). It was enjoyable seeing the different reactions to the crash both directly after and further down the line, and interesting to see the portrayal of Lottie's deteriorating mental health being portrayed as clairvoyance as some sufferers believe it is. In all honesty, I believe the writers have actually set things up for Lottie's character to have a genuine ability to understand these supernatural things she claims to, but as it is now, it could just as easily be a psychosis she's experiencing due to being without treatment for an extending period of time. Regardless, I believe Lottie's storyline has become one of the most interesting within the first season with Taissa's sleep walking being a close second that I hope continues to be looked into.

As I'm a big horror and gore fan, I was happy to see the wonderful death scenes portrayed so early on, but I wouldn't have been mad if there had been just a little bit more. After the plane crash and amputation of the coach's leg, things remain kind of tame for quite some time, which I believe is kind of a shame and a waste considering the setting of the 1996 scenes and how much the girls endure only to escape fairly ok despite the phycological effects.

Final Thoughts:

In the end, Yellowjackets is actually a good watch for those who enjoy drama that doesn't involve them and mysteries that keep you thinking as the plot thickens with each passing moment. Highly recommended for those who want to watch a series that is ongoing and need something to look forward to at the end of a long week as it is released weekly. I'm sure you'll be dying to see the new episodes the same way I was after finishing season 1.

dramas I watched in 2023

I'm more of a reblogger/lurker here and I don't really post much (at all), but I was looking at my spreadsheet of dramas last month and realized I was about to hit an insane, personal record number of dramas watched in a calendar year. So I decided to write up a recap post, mostly for my own sake because I have a terrible memory.

I am closing out 2023 having watched 92 dramas. What the actual fuck. I thought watching 67 dramas in 2021 was a cry for help, but I really have no excuse for what happened this year. (To be fair, 43 of the dramas I watched in 2021 were c-dramas, whereas this year, 65 of the dramas I watched were BL, so by total hours watched [which is not actually a metric I keep], I did probably watch more in 2021.)

So, if you care to read about which of the 92 dramas I enjoyed the most this year, along with other random categories like favorite lead characters, favorite ships, and favorite drama with X trope, read on.

Favorite C-Drama: Mysterious Lotus Casebook

Okay, this was the year I finally got what all the fuss was about with Cheng Yi. He's honestly a little weird looking to me, but damn the dude is charismatic and magnetic and I could watch him spit up fake blood all day long. (Maybe someday I'll finish Immortal Samsara, but also I'm finally beginning to make my peace with the fact that xianxia just isn't really my thing, so maybe not.) Although Cheng Yi played a huge part in my love for Mysterious Lotus Casebook, it wouldn't be my number one c-drama of the year if everything else about it wasn't excellent too. This show gave us unhinged queen Jiao Li Qiao, Qiao Wan Miao finally cutting down Xiao Zi Jun as he deserved, actually interesting cases to solve, the best shiniang and the most pathetic shixiong. And oh yeah, a truly fantastic polyship. Pretty much every single thing about this drama was perfect to me, which is a rarity. This one is definitely going up there in my top 5 c-dramas of all time.

Runner Up: Love and Redemption

They really don't make dramas like they used to anymore – literally. I would love to rewatch this one, but I don't currently have the bandwidth to make it through all 59 episodes again. And the way they genderbent Xuan Ji in the final arc but still kept her love line with Si Feng as a central plot point regardless? Currently airing c-dramas wish they could (but no seriously, fuck censorship so hard). This one might also deserve all-time top 5 status, but I blazed through my first watch so fast and furious that I think I'd have to do a more reasonably paced rewatch to confirm. In any case, this was the drama I couldn't binge watch fast enough (only a Neo from the Matrix moment, where I literally upload the drama into my brain in an instant, would have sufficed), which is a testament to how thoroughly I enjoyed this one.

Favorite K-Drama: Revenant

It seems like every year there's a k-drama that makes me go against my own taste, and this year it was Revenant. I am pretty firmly anti-horror, but the gifs of Kim Tae Ri in this show got me so intrigued and she was an absolute beast. Her performance alone would have carried this to favorite status, but then my pathetic little man Hong Kyung showed up and I don't even know why I shipped them so hard but I really really did.

Runner Up: Alchemy of Souls

I'm cheating and putting both seasons here because even though I've probably rewatched more bits from Light & Shadow, the second season wouldn't have any of the emotional weight it does without the first season, so I'm not picking between them and you can't make me. At first, I was so disappointed that Jung So Min had been recast, but I ended up loving the second season anyway. Actress switch aside, Light & Shadow feels like a very different show, but I loved the way they handled the repercussions of the first season in a way that felt both consistent and earned.

Favorite K-BL: The Eighth Sense

Absolutely no question here. The Eighth Sense ate my brain while it was airing. It was the strong Shelter vibes at first, but then Seo Jae Won and Kim Ji Hyun totally won me over on their own merits. By the end of episode 9, my heart was in throat.

Runner Up: Cherry Blossoms After Winter

When I started writing this out, I was not expecting Cherry Blossoms After Winter to be here at all, but it really snuck up on me. As soon as I finished the drama, I binge-read the webtoon, and then I ended up rewatching the series more than a couple times, so yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of this one, with all its old-school vibes.

Bonus Shout Out: Our Dating Sim

If Our Dating Sim had been a little angstier, it might have given the above two a run for their money, but regardless, I have to give it a shout out because "Have you been well, without me?" is a line that just lives in my brain rent-free from now on.

Favorite Tw-Drama: Oh No! Here Comes Trouble

This could just be the recency effect, but I might go so far as to say Oh No! Here Comes Trouble is my favorite Taiwanese drama of all time. The mysteries were engaging, it's funny, it's emotional – don't get me started on how many tears I shed. The acting and writing were just top notch, and if they bless us with a second season, I will be first in line to watch.

Runner Up: About Youth

I don't think I hear many people talk about About Youth on here, so I feel pretty justified in calling it an underrated gem. It was basically, for me, a perfect drama all the way through. The main couple and the side couple were all wholesome babies and I wanted to protect them. Ye Guang's struggle in particular really resonated with me. I often think I'm getting too old for high school and college dramas, but when they hit that nostalgia factor just right, I am sold.

Favorite J-Drama: Utsukushii Kare: Eternal

Cheating a bit here because Eternal was a movie, but it was the final installment to the Utsukushii Kare series and it was perfect. We finally got the character growth I wanted, that made me believe these two crazy kids would actually make it.

Runner Up: Tokyo in April Is…

My best friend pointed out recently that j-dramas are great with obsession, and yeah, I do love my j-dramas a little fucked up. Not only does this one feature obsession, but it also has another of my favorite tropes: second chances. Ren had my whole freaking heart, and the way he finally got his happy ending left me on the floor. That chase scene was one of my favorites.

Favorite Thai BL: A Tale of Thousand Stars

(Fun fact! Prior to this year, the only Thai BL that I had watched was Kinnporsche. RIP to me.)

This was definitely my hardest category, because it was my most-watched category (33 dramas), but I gotta give it to A Tale of Thousand Stars. Solid execution of some of my favorite tropes and it just ticked all the boxes: good pacing, good acting, good plot, good chemistry. And lucky me, we got Our Skyy 2 this year. I'm usually not that bothered by proposal scenes, but this one got me hard. It was exactly the kind of epilogue to Tian and Phupha's story that I didn't realize I needed.

Runner Up: Lovely Writer

On the complete other end of the spectrum, upending all our favorite tropes, is Lovely Writer. I rewatched this after watching a dozen more Thai BLs, and I have to say I enjoyed it even more. During my first watch, I hated the first half, only stuck with it because I liked Gene so much, and loved the second half. Upon rewatch, the first half was not nearly as unbearable, and I think it was because I could see that Sib was intentionally playing into a BL archetype. But still, the second half has all of my favorite moments. Once their shared history is revealed, Sib stops being a cardboard cutout and becomes more human, and the entire storyline picks up and I am much more invested in his and Gene's relationship. That dinner where they come out to their families is excruciatingly awkward and I love it (and the episode that follows) so much – those scenes alone elevate it to favorite status.

Favorite First Half of a Drama: Destined

I love both Bai Jing Ting and Song Yi, so my expectations for this drama were very high, and the first half of Destined absolutely delivered. Just sheer perfection, no wrong steps, everything I didn't even know I wanted. Unfortunately, that kind of means the show peaked when they found themselves in the wilderness, trying to get the other to survive out of sheer willpower purely because they believed in the other's goodness. THE BLOOD FEEDING!!! Ahem. So yeah, the second half was okay, it had its moments but was generally a little boring and predictable, but dear god that first half was incredible.

Runner Up: The Blood of Youth

It may seem strange to have The Blood of Youth in this category, since I ended up giving it a 5/5 rating, but I just loved the Xiao Se x Wu Xin x Lei Wu Jie dynamic so much and as the show veered away from that, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed.

Favorite Drama That I Wouldn't Actually Recommend to Other People: Love in the Air

I know some people loathe everything MAME touches, but Love in the Air worked for me on every level. Well, I wish the acting for the couple in the second half had been a little better (ducks and runs), but I loved the first half and still quite enjoyed the second half. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but it speaks to my little lizard brain.

Runner Up: History 4: Close to You

I absolutely get why this show is controversial and why people hate it. I also don't care. This show had some delicious angst, and I was emotionally invested in both couples. Just a thoroughly enjoyable watch, but yeah, unless you're familiar with certain BL tropes and know you like them, I wouldn't actually recommend this one.

Favorite ML: Li Lianhua / Li Xiangyi (Mysterious Lotus Casebook)

Look, was it really going to be anyone other than this broken and silly man that feels the weight of the world on his shoulders and thinks his own life is worth less than everyone else's? It's been 4 months since I finished this drama, and I am still so emotional about Li Lianhua.

Runner Up: Xie Wei / Xue Ding Fei (Story of Kunning Palace)

I love an unhinged bastard, okay? When you realize that he loved her all along, her suicide in the first timeline hits that much harder. But I do love that he (albeit unknowingly) gets a second chance, and the man just goes for it. Never ever over the scene where he stabs his own hand, through the table no less, despite his obsession with playing the qin, to protect her. Romance storyline aside, I also love a good hidden identity trope (yes, there's a theme to this category). Xie Wei's revenge quest was delicious, and I freaking loved his scenes with Yan Mu and Yan Lin, all the meaningful looks and things unsaid until Yan Lin finally knelt in front of his cousin and acknowledged him.

BL Shout Out: Ai Di (Kiseki: Dear to Me)

It's hard to compare MLs from shows that run for 40 episodes vs. 12, but I have to shout out my favorite feral gangster Ai Di. I love me some good pining, and not only has this man pined for nearly his entire life, but he makes it everyone's problem.

Favorite FL: Xu Hongdou (Meet Yourself)

Xu Hongdou was just so cool and kind and gorgeous, and okay, yeah, I had a big crush on her. I've never seen Liu Yi Fei in anything before, I didn't even realize she played Mulan in that recent Disney live action production until my sister pointed it out much later, but she's one of those actresses that can make me cry just by tearing up. Xu Hongdou felt like a real person, kind but not a pushover, strong but still vulnerable, and I somehow want to grow up to be her even though I'm older than her.

Runner Up (tie): Shim Woo Joo (Call It Love) / Gu San Yeong (Revenant)

This one is a tie because I loved both Woo Joo and San Yeong for the exact same reasons: they were just so fucked up but trying so hard, and more than anything, I just wanted them to be happy. While the ships in both dramas were great, for me the real otps were the FL x happiness.

Favorite Supporting ML: Wu Xin (The Blood of Youth)

Every time Wu Xin was on screen, it was just a breath of fresh air. I get that he's totally overpowered, so for plot reasons it made sense to remove him, make him mind controlled, etc. But every time he wasn't on screen, I missed him. Even though the casting was a bit of an odd choice (they gave us a man in his early 30s playing a teenager), I can't imagine loving Wu Xin as much as I did if it hadn't been Liu Xue Yi. He doesn't really manage to look like a teenager, especially next to Li Hong Yi and Ao Rui Peng, but he really pulled off Wu Xin's innocence and naivete and childish humor. He also gave Wu Xin a certain gravitas and realism that I don't think a younger actor could have pulled off.

Runner Up: Jin Fan (My Journey to You)

Jin Fan, my beloved. His backstory was delicious and made his relationship with Gong Ziyu even better. Also, the fact that he actually secretly liked Gong Zishang back the entire time??? My man.

Favorite Supporting FL: Yang Ying (A Journey to Love)

A YING MY GIRL. Her journey from neglected, unloved princess to capable and powerful grown-ass woman who marries a dude she doesn't love to protect her people was quite possibly my favorite thing about this show. I would 100% watch a drama just about her, and I so wish we'd gotten an actual glimpse of her and Li Tong Guang in that little epilogue in the final episode. Their alliance/marriage is fascinating to me. He Lan Dou better be a FL in some dramas asap. She was equally convincing as both a meek, terrified princess, helpless to the whims of bigger political machinations around her, and an icy cold princess in enemy territory, actually playing the game instead of just being a game piece, determined to not only survive but to also protect everyone she loves.

Runner Up: Yoon San (The Eighth Sense)

Shout out to the only person who was actually Jae Won's friend in this show. Yoon San was a total scene stealer for me, don't even get me started on that bit when she was singing by the fire on the beach (swoon), and I found her friendship with Jae Won really sweet and believable. I think this actress is super talented, she nailed the funny moments, she nailed the heartfelt moments, and I would love to watch her in another drama.

Favorite Non-Canon Ship: Gong Shangjue x Gong Yuanzhi (My Journey to You)

I did not go into this drama expecting to be so into these cousins/sworn brothers, but Gong Shangjue and Gong Yuanzhi's relationship as it unfolded throughout the show became the one I was the most invested in. I fully admit I'm a sucker for a dynamic where one party is wholehearted devoted to the other and also wholeheartedly believes the other is not nearly as devoted, so as soon as we got their tragic backstory, I was solidly on board.

Runner Up: Na Na x Da Mai (Meet Yourself)

I know Chinese censorship blah blah blah, but Na Na and Da Mai should have been girlfriends, cowards. I guess at the very least, neither of them ended up with a real love line of their own, but still, they should have been girlfriends. It just makes sense.

Technicality Shout Out: Li Lianhua x Fang Xiaobao (Mysterious Lotus Casebook)

The only reason this pairing isn't at the top of the list is because I, personally, don't consider them non-canon. They read to me exactly the same as the pairings in The Untamed and Word of Honor, thus they are canon.

Favorite Friendship: Pu Yiyong x Chen Chuying x Cao Guangyan (Oh No! Here Comes Trouble)

Watch the last episode of Oh No! Here Comes Trouble, and tell me this friendship trio didn't make you cry buckets. You know each of them is wondering how they ended up with the other two as friends, but somehow they're also totally ride or die and I love them all so much.

Runner Up: Lom x Yiwa (Wedding Plan)

I loved Lom and Yiwa's long history together, the sacrifices they made for each other, their deep love born out of a bond of shared family pressure and mutual understanding. Their friendship actually drove the plot, and even when I was hollering at Lom to just be honest, his actions (and inaction) felt realistic once we got to know how important Yiwa is to him and why and once we had the context to understand how he had lived his life up to that point.

Favorite Found Family: Liudaotang (A Journey to Love)

If you've seen this show, I feel like it needs no explanation. These spies and scouts and murdery people with big ass swords and spiked shields and automatic crossbows were too good for this world. And the way their little family just kept getting bigger and bigger (spoiler: UNTIL IT DIDN'T) was so much fun to watch (spoiler: UNTIL IT WASN'T).

Runner Up: Rainbow Premium Taxi Service (Taxi Driver, Season 2)

I loved the way they addressed the end of season 1, by showing that these people are all a little messed up and they belong together and they really need the revenge business just as much as their clients do. When Kim Do Gi got roofied and he had his little housewarming hallucination, where they all wore matching slippers with hearts (!!), it honestly made me wanna cry a little.

Favorite Drama Featuring Friends to Lovers: My Only 12%

I don't know if it's because I missed it when it was airing, but I don't think I see many people talk about this show and I don't get why. This is to me quintessential friends to lovers. Seeiw and Cake's friendship felt absolutely real and lived in and honest, and the episode when Cake's family moved away had me bawling. Seeiw's pining physically hurt me, and Cake's confession scene in English could have been cringe but it was actually so fucking romantic.

Runner Up: Fake It Till You Make It

I don't know if everyone else would classify this one as friends to lovers because from the moment these two meet, it feels like they're teetering on the cliff of a romance or at least an excellent one night stand. But I just loved the way they flirted openly and then talked honestly about why they needed to stay friends and nothing more. I'm not typically that into "will they won't they" romances, but here, their hesitation to get more involved made sense emotionally, but at the same time their chemistry was fire and their attraction to each other was palpable, so it all just worked for me. Also friendship rings instead of couple rings was so stupid and I loved it.

Favorite Drama Where Nice Guys Finish First: Light On Me

This is totally not to say that Shin Da On isn't also nice, I just have no idea what to call this trope, but it's one of my faves, where the lead character ends up with the person they didn't actually fall for first. I did not foresee Tae Kyung ending up with Shin Woo at all, which is some poor media literacy on my part because all the hints are there from the beginning, but that kind of made the ride even more fun. One of the reasons I enjoy this trope so much is the built-in pining, and Shin Woo had some excellent pining. "Yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow, I will continue thinking about you" was a freaking great line.

Runner Up: My Ride

You might think a drama about two actually decent guys would be boring and lack conflict, but this drama employed this trope perfectly by starting out with Tawan getting a shot at his first love, the seemingly wonderful Por. So instead we got some great pining, Tawan being an oblivious sweetheart, and Mork trying so hard to be a good friend and not overstep, even as he was dealing with his own sexuality crisis. Just delicious.

Favorite Drama About Soulmates: Until We Meet Again

Did I only watch two dramas with the soulmate trope? Maybe so, but it's my list, so I do what I want. Until We Meet Again was what I would call a pitch perfect show – it delivered on everything it set out to do. I thought I was doing okay with the whole tragic soulmate storyline, but then I got to the very last episode and cried pretty much from start to finish. From the start, that episode got me so good and did not let up for like the next half hour, and so I was basically just left leaking tears until it all wrapped. Damn you, Fluke.

Runner Up: La Pluie

God this show was interesting. Smarter people than me have written a lot more nuanced and thoughtful meta than I ever could, so all I'll say is that I thoroughly enjoyed that a drama based on the premise of soulmates was really actually about how love is work. It wasn't a perfect show, but it was so interesting and the cast was so great that it was definitely a stand out.

KP's 2022 SPN Year in Review

Soooo much happened in my life in 2022 (well from end 2021 though 2022 really). I am so grateful for the friends both online and off who helped me get through it all 💜. I found myself focusing more on art and editing than writing - but I am really excited to share my Pinefest fic with you all in February!

The #1 creation I'm most proud of this year was my Haze Amv, but I am also blown away by how much my Me and My Broken Heart Amv took off - ending the year with almost 20k views - which is in-sane. Setting and sticking to a regular upload schedule has been motivating and rewarding - I'm excited to post January's video on Thursday too :).

Participating as an artist in a couple of bangs for the first time had me stepping out of my comfort zone and drawing the best human being I've ever drawn to-date.

Aside from making things, I also co-modded the new SPN Bang Bang with my friends @doctorprofessorsong and @you-cant-spell-subtext-without, which went wonderfully well; I"m excited for this year's round!

Last but not least, being an editor and guest for @endofthebookpod has been amazing so far, and I'm excited for the rest of The Winchesters season!
