Yes, Twitter is going down in flames, but let us take a moment to remember one of the few good things to come from Twitter, which is that time when Ringo Starr tried to use a dictation software to compose his first tweet, only said software didn’t know what to make of his Liverpool accent, resulting in the following--

Listen.  Listen.
I need you to understand why the whole Goncharov thing is so hilarious to me as a Hogan’s Heroes fan.
In 1968, the second episode of season 4 of Hogan’s Heroes centered around the Heroes coming up with a nonexistent piece of electronic equipment to trick the Germans into bringing a defecting electronics expert within their reach to smuggle him to England.
The Heroes put on an Entire Bit, using a rabbit trap one of the Heroes made, plus random electronic parts, complete with nonexistent technical jargon for the Germans to overhear.  And not one of the Germans wants to admit that they have no dang clue as to what the Heroes are talking about, not even the recurring character of a general who is (normally) one of the most foreboding foes for the Heroes.
And the name the Heroes gave for this piece of nonexistent equipment, which makes what’s going on now even more hilarious?
The Gonculator.
From a rabbit trap becoming a Gonculator to a shoe becoming Goncharov, it’s practically full circle.

THE ONE PIECE DIARIES
Episode Count: 182
This will be a short update, but damn, it's amazing how much my opinion of a character can change over the course of just one episode.
Up until this point, Conis was a very meh character for me. Even when she betrayed our crew, I didn't really feel one way or the other about her. But seeing her stand her ground, trying to convince all the Skypeia residents to evacuate? And then deciding to go back to Upper Yard to save the Strawhats, if at all possible? A+ character. You have all my respect now. I mean, Conis came across as bland before because she is such an ordinary person. But that's really working in her favor now. She has no special powers. She literally just watched her father get killed in front of her for standing up to Enel. That she still managed to find the courage to fight back herself? That's the stuff great underdog stories are made of.
And episode 182 started the Luffy vs. Enel fight as well and... I'm an idiot, guys. ^^' Here I was, trying to figure out how Luffy was possibly going to win this fight... And it totally escaped my mind that Enel's lightning abilities should have no effect on him, being rubber and all.
I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing the smirk wiped off that smug bastard's face. Though I'm sure he'll pull out some new trick... Can't make it too easy.

I haven't worked out just how many generations 18 years covers in the world of podcasting, but it's enough to know that it was a vastly different world in 2005.  A world without as many social media bells and whistles, one where few contemplated how artificial intelligence tools could improve their podcasting workflow or how to create episode teasers in the form of audiograms or Instagram reels.  A lot has changed, but some things remain the same.  For me, nothing matters more than the music that I share on the show.  I never wanted to do anything else in podcasting other than champion independent artists and connect the dots between various musical genres through this medium.
There's a whole lot of music that has been played on this show over 18 years, and it would be foolish to suggest to you that nine songs could cover even a fraction of that time.  However, some of these songs and artists are reminiscent of specific moments within BSOTS history.  The selections from Lovespirals and Big La Vs. Todd represent my connection to the Music Podcasting Consortium, a like-minded collective of avid music supporters and creators that represents my first online community within the podosphere.  Whether Todd Kelley (a.k.a. The Big La) is curating a music mix or in the lab crafting beats of his own, the head nod factor is always priority number one with him.  "The Shoreline" is a calming instrumental piece and one of my personal favorites from his Kneel Before Todd album.  The music of Lovespirals appeared within the first ten episodes of Radio BSOTS and is one of the first podsafe artists ever played on this show.  Their new single "Misunderstood" is a continuation of the ethereal attributes that make their work so special (and besides that, atmospheric drum and bass is the way to my heart).
Over the years, podsafe music resources faded away one by one, but thankfully the Free Music Archive is still around.  Founded in 2009, I've been virtually crate digging through this website since its beginning stages in beta mode, always finding works that have both intrigued and surprised me.  A cut like "Mango Tree" by Chandeliers brings me right back to those early days of searching for music on the FMA.  This one's a total earworm, marrying lyrics and vocals that lean towards folk with an off-kilter funk groove accentuated by the bass, keys, and rhythm guitar.  "Bag Of Nothingness" is another FMA find, where producer Comfort Fit takes the funk and launches full speed into the future,  creating a hip-hop/electronic beat hybrid that stays crunchy even in milk.
Prior to the FMA's existence, a universe of netlabels brought me in touch with an endless amount of Creative Commons licensed music.  The blocSonic netlabel would have been the first, and I try to represent for their output as often as possible.  The self-titled album by Friends Or Whatever is one of my all-time favorite blocSonic releases and the shimmering brilliance of "Everybody Stopped Calling Me" is just one of the reasons why.  No Type (no longer active) was another netlabel that I came across soon after blocSonic and I fell hard for their focus on experimental electronic music.  The introspective beauty of "The Force May Be With You" by Idmonster is reminiscent of work from labels like Project Mooncircle, the warm chords occasionally disturbed by slivers of voices, clicks, and digital static.  Upitup Records is more of a recent discovery, but the music of Cosmic Analog Ensemble has been played on this show well over a decade ago.  He's a multi-instrumentalist that's capable of creating soulful jazz numbers to sample-heavy hip-hop instrumentals that feel like Madlib during his most leftfield moments.  I cannot stop playing "In Matacumbo" and it would be criminal not to share that cut with you.  The same can be said for "Dance To The Drummer's Beat" by Dharma.  It's impossible to keep still when those breakbeats kick in.  Believe it or not, that cut dates back to 1999, proving that the Creative Commons crates are deep and full of amazing cuts that deserve more exposure.  (Seek and ye shall find.)  It was released on Mono211, a label that stopped releasing music 20 years ago.  Thanks to the efforts of those behind the Netlabel Archive for preserving the works of inactive imprints and ensuring that their output won't be lost forever.
And then there's Jonny Sonic, an artist that ended up becoming the unofficial voice of the BSOTS GONE (buck)WILD episodes.  His music is often punchy and insistent, never forsaking the funk in its approach.  I love the horn section on "Datenight" and how Jonny's voice just seems to cut through his big band that's right behind him.  I've been playing his music since at least 2006 and he's the first artist that I reach for whenever BSOTS needs to blow off some steam.  Should you need some music to bring you back from the brink, here's hoping that the selections within this episode can bring some semblance of peace your way.   ID drops:  Fave, Kahlief Adams, Aspektz, Jonny Sonic, Darrenkeith

Liner Notes (November 4th, 2023)
I hope everyone had a good week this week. This week’s supporter Q&A post can be found here. If you’d like this newsletter delivered to your inbox each week (it’s free and available to everyone), you can sign up here. A Few Things * This will probably be another shortish newsletter. It’s a slower music week, and it’s the time of the year when there’s not much happening in the music world, and I have a lot of family commitments. It’s nice to take some time off and enjoy my favorite time of the year though. It’s wild to think that next week will be Hannah and my fourth wedding anniversary. The plan is to relax a little, have some nice meals, and get some things done around the house to prepare for the holidays. In Case You Missed It * Review: Taking Back Sunday – 152 * Review: Boys Like Girls – Sunday At Foxwoods * Green Day Announce 2024 Tour * Anberlin Share Matty Mullins Vocal Clip * Major Labels Trying to Stop Artists from Re-Recording Songs * Taking Back Sunday Play Fan Wedding * Brian Fallon Reviews Every Gaslight Anthem Album * The Gaslight Anthem Perform on CBS Saturday Morning * 20th Anniversary Edition of ‘Take This To Your Grave’ * Albums in Stores – Nov 3rd, 2023 Music Thoughts * Things I enjoyed that came out yesterday were the final Atreyu EP, creating a nice 12-song album that leans more into their pop side but works for me this time of year. And Spiritbox also released an awesome EP that continues their hot streak. * My week was spent between the current releases (Blink-182, Gaslight Anthem, Taking Back Sunday) and revisiting some albums that always feel great in November (Matt Nathanson, Patrick Droney, anything Ace Enders touches). The Stats: Over the past week, I listened to 36 different artists, 45 different albums and 443 different tracks (479 scrobbles). And you can follow me on Apple Music and/or Last.fm. Entertainment Thoughts * From the very first one to the latest, I’m a sucker for all the Mission: Impossible movies. I enjoyed Dead Reckoning, but I did feel like it was hurt by only being a “part one.” There are some great action scenes and set pieces. But not quite up to the level as my favorites from the franchise on first watch. * We did a bunch of Halloween movies last week: Talk to Me was the best of the bunch, The Blackening was a lot of fun, and Suitable Flesh was weird. * Whenever I think I’m about to just cancel Netflix they release something that pulls me back in. Currently, that’s Bodies. The first four episodes have pulled me in. Curious to see where it goes. Random and Personal Stuff * Next week’s project is to get the bedroom track lights fixed. The power supply for them died, and of course, they don’t make it anymore. After talking to a few electricians, they all think the whole system probably needs to be replaced because of how old it is (like 15 years?), and they don’t make anything compatible anymore. So my “this shouldn’t be too annoying to fix” project became a “this is going to be absolutely obnoxious” project real fast. Ten Songs Here are ten songs that I listened to and loved this week. Some may be new, some may be old, but they all found their way into my life during the past seven days. * Spiritbox – Ultraviolet * The Beatles – Now and Then * Sigrid – Borderline * Blink-182 – Turpintine * Taking Back Sunday – Juice 2 Me * The Gaslight Anthem – The Weatherman * Patrick Droney – We Got Old This Year * Matt Nathanson – Soundtrack * There Will Be Firewords – Smoke Machines (Summer Moon) * Paint it Black – Dominion This playlist is available on Spotify and Apple Music. Community Watch The trending and popular threads in our community this week include: * NFL Gameday Week 9 * Nutella vs. Cookie Butter * Kevin Drew – Aging (November 3, 2023) * MGMT – Loss Of Life (February 23, 2024) * FOOTBALLHEAD – Overthinking Everything (March 1, 2024) * Tour Prediction and Speculation Thread * Video… https://chorus.fm/features/articles/liner-notes-november-4th-2023/

So that last episode has put me in deep in Dorian feelings
Everyone has said it much better than I can. But I was absolutely gutted after that whole last scene. Dorian throwing the outfit he was going to wear to the ball into the closet in exchange for a severe, militaristic outfit in order to play of the role of Bronte Secondsun Wyvernwind of the Silken Squall; my heart just broke into a million pieces for him.
There’s one bit that honestly though stuck out to me that every time I think about it, I want to cry.
Dorian pulls out that chiffon outfit and states that “he got so long ago” and just looks at it before crumpling it along with the mask. That chiffon outfit was the one he got and wore during the Gem of Byroden pageant all those months ago. He stated at that time that while they were in the tent with the different outfits, he had it in his hands and was just looking at it before he decided he wanted to be a part of the pageant.
Then the scene transitions to Dorian tentatively asking Opal if the pageant was only for the ladies, to which Opal replies, loudly and excitedly, “No, no anyone can join!” And then he asks her if she minds them competing against her, which she very emphatically says “No! Of course not! In fact...” and then Opal gives Dorian and Fearne the option to act as a live band for her during her act during the talent portion of the pageant. But, honestly, Opal really wanted her friends to participate in the pageant with her and have fun. She was so excited when Fearne, Dorian and Dariax said they would join.
Dorian then proceeds to blow everyone away during the formal dress portion of the pageant with beautiful sheer chiffon outfit and floating himself above the crowd. Whimsical, beautiful, “giving them [the crowd] all the charm and machismo that he has to offer.” Afterward, he goes backstage to his friends, enthusiastically clapping for him and telling him how amazing and “hot” he is. Dorian is “flushed” and thanks Opal for the chance to be able to do that because he’s “always wanted to do that or something like that.” He does get embarrassed later on but at that moment, he was so happy and excited.
Here’s the thing: it’s probably safe to say that even though there are pageants where he comes from, he clearly has never been in one. He was so nervous about joining the pageant at first. So much so that he pretty much begged Dariax to join with him for moral support. But he really wanted to participate. He clearly wanted to join and show off who he is and be accepted for what he presents.
And then, during the pageant and afterwards, he’s not only accepted but celebrated for his show. That sheer, shimmering, chiffon beige outfit with the deep V cut that goes down all the way to bottom of his waist. The whole thing showing off his “svelte, muscular form”. His ancestral winged boots that carried him over the crowd, wowing them with his unexpected artistry and charm. More than anything, at the end of that pageant, he may not have won but he was happy, he had fun, he felt alive and excited; so much so that he initiated a drinking contest with Fearne and Dariax as a sort of after-party.
As nervous as he was, the Gem of Byroden pageant was probably the first time Dorian was able to express who he really was and be completely accepted for it. Whimsical, free, beautiful, artistic. He was so happy.
But then, we fast-forward to the Marquet and the ball they are to attend.
Dorian takes that chiffon outfit that he so clearly loves so much that he literally carried it with him from Byroden to Jrusar. The one that he got and wore “so long ago it seems”. He’s just looking at it but not in the same way he was looking at it in the tent in Byroden. And then he tosses it to the bottom of the wardrobe (not even hanging it, just crumples it up and tosses it, ow my heart), and takes an outfit that is “more appropriate” to get the job done. More befitting of Prince Bronte Secondsun Wyvernwind of the Silken Squall. Severe, almost militaristic, nothing whimsy about it.
This is what Bronte is (what Dorian was raised with the expectation of being). Serious, restrained, muted, authoritarian. And he is miserable.
You see it in the way Robbie (which oh my god, what a performance!) plays out the scene. Dorian dismisses his friends’ concern for him, refuses to look at any of them for a while. He’s trying to hold himself together through the disappointment and misery and reminds himself that “he’s the best person for the job”.
Dorian throws away the physical reminder of a time he was so happy just being himself in order to don the identity of someone he hated and was forced to endure being until he could get away.
Oh my god though, the way EVERYONE tunes in as well.
Laudna immediately questioning the rest of the group if this is a good idea, not because she thinks the plan won’t work but because “we don’t want to cause undue trauma”.
Imogen asking Dorian in his mind if he’s alright with this plan (to which Dorian very tersely replies that “it’s fine”, not even looking at her  because of course, he’s fine, he’s the best person for the job. He’s used to giving up what he truly wants for the benefit of other people, this isn’t new to him 😥).
Fearne asking Orym for his thoughts and Orym, being very careful and slow with his words. “He’s the best person for the job.” “Dorian has talked us out of 20 different situations” “He’s the best fit” but Orym’s body is stiff. He’s leaning forward, covering his mouth, almost like he’s trying to filter out his words to what he thinks is appropriate, not necessarily what he feels. Orym knew how excited Dorian was for the ball and there’s an unsaid “I hate that this is happening to Dorian” in Orym’s body language while talking to Fearne.
This is followed immediately by Orym saying he was going to stay with Dorian while they were deciding who should be in which group. As well as, Fearne agreeing immediately to being with Dorian when asked (because she loves her boys and the thought of being away from them makes her very sad).
Also, those little smiles one Liam, Ashley and Laura’s faces when he described the outfit he was planning on wearing. My heart hurts!
Ashton also cluing in and while they initially volunteered to be with Dorian as a bodyguard, they revise and tell Dorian “you should have final say to who you want at your side”. Honestly, I feel like part of it is that Ashton felt guilty because they were the one who initially, very enthusiastically, volunteered Dorian to play the part of the noble, not realizing what that would do to Dorian emotionally. I think Ashton clued in but it was too late and so they decided the next best thing was to give Dorian as much autonomy in his choice to who would accompany him.
The only ones I couldn’t get a good read on was Chetney and FCG. I think with FCG, they could probably sense that Dorian isn’t alright but might not have a good bead into why. There was that whole discussion beforehand with “designation” and what that means. Also during “What the fuck is up with that?” several episodes back, FCG stated that “it seems like you would be proud to come from a fabled, noble tradition.” I have my own thoughts but I think I need to see more going further.
God, this is a monster of post. I just wanted to contrast the moment Dorian got his chiffon outfit in Byroden to the moment when he tossed it into Eshteross’s wardrobe and how thinking about all those moments in-between and all the implications fucking broke my hearts into a million pieces.
Fuck me, I’m just going to go cry in a corner now.

Oh god, I just had a cursed thought
It’s been implied a few times already in this latest episode that Dorian might be mistaken for his brother and be captured/killed for the bounty. We also know that Dorian gave the second Sending Stone to Cyrus and didn’t tell the rest of the party.
What if, for some godforsaken reason, Dorian gets taken for the bounty and he’s unable to get back to the group. Orym, immediately uses the Sending Stone to try to locate him and ends up contacting Cyrus instead. At that point, Orym and the rest of the party realize that Dorian’s gone and they have no way of being able to contact him/ find out where he is or where he is being taken or if he’s even still alive.
And now, I’m imagining how Orym will react. I’m subscribed to the idea that Orym is a widower who lost his husband in that attack 6 years ago. There’s some pretty strong evidence to show that Orym is starting to develop feelings for Dorian (the flower in the hair, clutching the Sending Stone so tightly he bruises his hand, Liam himself saying that Orym “really like Dorian a lot” etc.). Can you fucking imagine what would go through Orym’s head at that point? He already had to go through a heartbreaking loss once before. He already had to go through the feeling of being unable to protect someone he loved before. And now, after all this time when he finds himself falling for someone again (which must carry its own set of complicated feelings), he is unable to protect Dorian. Orym could possibly lose him and he is helpless to stop it.
Oh fuck, I just hurt myself thinking about this.

My #1 post of 2022
The last episode has me in my Orym feelings again
MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!
My heart was just breaking while watching Orym while they were meeting Oshad. Liam is a master at using his body and facial expressions to convey everything we need to know how a character is feeling. There was actually a moment when I was a little jarred watching Liam because I was suddenly thinking how much Orym resembled Caleb in that moment.
Then I had a thought that just shatter my heart into a million pieces.
Here’s the thing, I love how Liam constantly acts out different things/ says certain things that reminds everyone that he’s a 3′3″ Halfling. But I had a realization that without those reminders, it’s very easy to forget that Orym is “so wee”, as he puts it. It’s not even really about Liam not being a small dude. When Orym sits, he’s leaning back into the chair with an arm swung over the back; he takes up as much space as possible without it really encroaching into another person’s space. Dorian and Fearne have always taken leadership cues from Orym and the others very readily turn to him too when he does take initiative in a situation (i.e. the conversation with Tefta). When they’re in battle, Orym is all over the place, maximizing his movement and his actions play the field. Just the fact that his battle maneuver, Bait and Switch, has him switching positions with an ally and shielding them gives this image of stalwart protector; a wall between a threat and a friend. Orym, as quiet and soft-spoken as he is, feels like he takes up more space than he physically does.
Which brings me to one specific scene during the meeting with Oshad Breshio.
When the party is waiting in the kitchen for Ginang Ela Lumas to come back; Orym was folded in on himself. He was clutching his arm with the tattoo on it; specifically his upper arm where the two moons of Exandria are; Ruidus being cradled in Catha (which adds a whole new level of hurt if we subscribe to the idea that the two moons represent Orym and his late husband, but I digress). Orym was holding himself and looking down. It was really the first time I ever saw Orym actually look that small. Like he was trying to protect himself from something, like he was trying to hide.
Orym doesn’t say a thing in that waiting period. When he does speak to Oshad, it’s careful, slow, his face is tight and his eyes look so sad and desperate. Orym looks nothing like the focused, stoic fighter on a mission. He looks like he’s barely holding himself together and is trying to find a line to pull keep himself from falling.
When they’re saying their goodbyes and Orym clasps Oshad’s arm, he says “Let’s do the same to them”. In the context of what they had just spoken about, Orym is obviously referring to the assassins. But even, without the context and Oshad’s response, it could be heard in Orym’s tone of voice; it’s cold, it’s angry. Orym before this has never shown a penchant for vengeance, even after Bertrand’s death. If anything, after Bertrand died, it seemed more like Orym’s main priority was removing possible threat to his friends’ safety. But after this talk with Oshad, it’s clear. Orym wants those assassins to pay for what they did.
And then the reactions from everyone else!
It was clear the moment they stepped into room with Oshad that this mission was deeply personal for Orym. This group typically has no problem racing each other to ask questions, probing for information from whoever is in the room. Yet, during that entire conversation, even though the whole group was in the room too, no one else said a word. All of them kept a respectful distance and silence, sensing that Orym was on a thin emotional tether. They only really spoke up when it seemed like Orym addressed them directly or when it seemed that meeting with Oshad was wrapping up. Even so, the rest of the party spoke softly and only really saying what was strictly necessary. Ashton, quietly telling Orym that it takes a few days to get to the Heartmoor, FCG expressing his condolences to Ela Lumas as they were about to the leave, Imogen gently asking a steward how old the twins were, Laudna, just as gently, asking Orym if he had any other information as to what it seemed like the assassins were after and then dropping it when Orym told her honestly what the working theory was and that he really didn’t know more than that. Everyone just realizing how hard this was for Orym and being so kind.
I honestly don’t know where I’m going with this. Just that I think this was such as beautiful scene that also broke my heart. Orym, this lil murder man, is already murdering my feelings.

Crocodyle - So Happy
Release date: Aug 05, 2022 (8 days ago)
Released by: Amplify Entertainment
Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Alternative Rock
Welcome to the wild, weird, and whimsical world of Crocodyle, your new favorite four-piece out of Nashville. Crocodyle is an alt rock group in the vein of Arctic Monkeys crossed with Green Day.
The joy of performing is their foundation — frontman Hux Rittman, who grew up in Singapore and found his way to Tennessee, connected with drummer and Atlanta native Hays Thompson, and they got to work creating together, eventually filling out the band with CJ Gravley-Novello and Christi Landis
If Crocodyle can make a listener say, “I haven’t heard anything like that in a while,” they’ll consider it a job well done. More than that, though, the band wants people to feel good about themselves. There’s an undercurrent of optimism to Crocodyle, an act brimming with youthful energy, and that energy is contagious when the band performs onstage.

Pls do not try to piece together a timeline, you will just hurt your brain (theres no timeline btw. A lot of facts contradict each others timelines
Anon, your concern is sweet...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two big WTNV timelines drawn on a gridded background in a notes app. They have events, years, and episode numbers. The first one is a general Night Vale timeline that focuses on Cecil. At the top is a magenta timeline mapping out the beginnings of Night Vale and Cecil's internship up to November 7th, 1983. From there, a Night-Vale-purple line branches downwards, which has a few events from the series. The branch is labeled "Huntokar's meddling," and black marks places where the timelines met up. There is also a blue-purple line for the timeline in 33: Cassette, and one russet mark at the end of the canon timeline for 171: Go to the Mirror?
Image two is a Cecil-centric timeline, again in Night-Vale-purple. It starts from his probable birth around 1970 and lists childhood events (including unique blue text for 182: It Sticks with You), and it also covers information regarding his mom, Abby, and Janice and ends at 2017 with his reconciliation with Steve. End ID]

WTNV 182 / 132 Connection
So this isn't the first time Cecil's mother and trees have been connected.
In 132, exactly fifty episodes previously, her bedtime story was about a boy who turned into a tree.
I reviewed this episode to look for connections and..
Oh, boy.
So, first off, the boy's interest in science obviously reminded me of Carlos, right? But then the similarities stop there.
And start leading towards Cecil.
(The rest under the cut)
We now know that there was a time where Cecil's father was in the picture, although it may have been when Cecil was very, very young. The family dynamic in 132's story matches his exactly: a mother, a father, a sister, the youngest son.
My first thought was, "Well, this can't be a parallel to Cecil's family. They're far too loving, which doesn't match up with what we know of Cecil's mother at all." But then I looked closer.
The boy's parents are verbally insistent that they love him, to the point where it comes off as "I'm your parent so I have to love you, it's my job to do everything for you." Putting pressure, and a sense of guilt, on the child while never actually living up to their word.
"He knew he would never need his father to give his life for him. He just wanted his father to show concern for his health. He knew he would never need his mother to give away all of her belongings for him. He just wanted his mother to show interest in his curiosity." - 132, Bedtime Story
His parent's love is very idealistic, while not being one that they actually show or.. Possibly, feel. They don't show concern for his health, or value his interests. He's their son, but he's not anything more.
"My mom seems really proud of me too! She hid from me for three days! Like, the longest ever! And she’s covered all the mirrors in my house. I’m not sure why, but I think it must be because of pride. Being proud does all sorts of things… to a… um… to a person." - 33, Cassettes
Cecil's own experiences parallel this. He interprets her love through ideals, to fill the void of it in actuality. When you're a child, you think that a parent is supposed to be loving. They're supposed to care. When they don't, or they leave you alone in your house, or they ignore you, or they tell you not to cry after you've been injured because "you don't even exist," your brain doesn't know how to process it. Like he did with his memory loss in 182, Cecil tries to rationalize it. Mother abandoned me because she's proud, because she cares about me- because she's my mother and she has to.
The boy's relationship with his sister parallels Cecil's as well.
"His sister would tell him, “I hate you, brother.” But their parents would instruct her to be nice and so she would say sarcastically, “I love you, brother. I would climb the tallest mountain for you." - 132, Bedtime Story
"He knew his sister really loved him. He knew he would never need his sister to climb a mountain for him. He just wanted his sister to believe him that mountains were real." - 132, Bedtime Story
As mentioned in Ghost Stories, Cecil has had a very difficult relationship with his sister.
"See, my mother disappeared when I was only 14. Abby had just started school, but she had to drop out to return home and raise me, and I thought that Mom would be back at any moment, like maybe she was away on business. Our out for a walk. Or just hiding.
But Mom did not come back, not for my entire childhood. And I was petulant and subversive, and Abby was reserved and controlling and she blamed me for having dropped out of school and I blamed her for just… not being Mom.
But in our adulthood, my mother did return home, sick and sorry to two children who barely spoke to each other in the morning." - Ghost Stories
Which would match up with the sister's animosity with him.
The difference here is that, out of the entire family, the boy knows that his sister actually loves him. And in Cecil's life, his sister is the only one he has made amends with. No matter how she treated him in the past, they are part of the same family once again. (As of 182, at least.)
Here, a direct parallel to Cecil is established. This boy's life mirrors his own.
Now, here's where it gets interesting.
Just as Cecil enters the tree, the boy is transformed into one
"He spent a lot of time in those next several months watching his family, their grief at his loss. His parents’ happiness at his sister’s education." - 132, Bedtime Story
There has been a lot of theorizing that Cecil's mother may have been covering the mirrors and leaving flowers because she was mourning Cecil, and not just his father.
"What was it your mother said before she left home when you were a teenager? Did she tell you she was an oracle?" - 171, Go to The Mirror?
It's entirely possible that Cecil's mother knew what would happen after she left, or had enough of an idea to subconsciously work it into a bedtime story.
It's possible that this is a glimpse of a timeline where Cecil really didn't survive entering the tree. His parents mourn, and his sister is allowed to pursue the education she wanted.  (Which, in all honesty, a pretty cruel burden to place on Cecil's shoulders. It's not his fault that their mother disappeared, leaving Abby to take care of him.)
Next, we watch the boy slowly lose his humanity as his awareness widens outside of himself.
"Time slowed for him, and his knowledge grew so vast and so expansive, human triumphs and pains became only a small sliver of his interest. There were much larger systems to comprehend than humanity." - 132, Bedtime Story
Cecil is canonically one of the people in Night Vale that time slowed down for. Like Earl, he has been stuck at a certain age for a long, long time.
"He had forgotten what he used to be." - 132, Bedtime Story
Cecil has canonically lost large parts of his past. He no longer remembers them.
"Later that spring, the woman and the man and the child brought a picnic and some games, and the tree was happy, but could not comprehend why. Nor did the tree intend to. The tree was simply happy, and this was a feeling that existed. Years later, the family wore black again and cried. And the tree felt sad, but it did not connect this feeling to any kind of narrative. It was simply sad, and this was a feeling that existed." - 132, Bedtime Story
The boy tree is becoming incredibly distanced from his family. (A woman, man, and child, just like Abby, Steve, and Janice.)
"You know, Cecil and I first met at one of these things. Seems like we should have met earlier than that. I had dated his sister for a while. But Cecil’s busy, he- he serves his community. He really gives himself to his community. Who do you live for, you know? Who do you give yourself to? Those are questions we should all be asking ourselves." - Steve in 100, Toast
Steve confirmed that Cecil was distant from his family and the people around him before Carlos came along, burying himself in his job.
And then an angel cuts down the tree.
"Over a few days, the tree and the fruits and the separated stump died. But the tree retained everything. As its body was planted into boards, as its twigs were ground into mulch, the tree felt the knowledge of each seed it had planted across the valley, each creature it had nourished with its fruits, and each piece of lumber built into a home for generations of humans to come.
The tree felt its branches burned in a fireplace, and it rose up as smoke and dissipated into carbon across the sky, coming down in trillions of molecules to build more soil, more trees, more creatures. The boy could truly learn everything now, cell by cell." - 132, Bedtime Story
Cecil has given himself to his community. This boy, this tree, has been divided and used up as a resource, to serve the community in which he lived. Not to mention the fact that Cassettes Cecil died before becoming the Voice, like this boy/tree was cut down before he could serve/understand his community.
"Cecil, sweet Cecil. Whose life lies directly on the fault lines of this broken reality." - Huntokar in 109, Huntokar
Patching together:
- this quote from Huntokar that gives off the impression of Cecil as the glue keeping the fractures together, and
- the way that Leonard Burton, a deceased Voice, is brought back the moment that Cecil left town, filling the vacant spot, and
- the way that Night Vale fell apart when its citizens rejected their reality, and began to be patched back together along with the narration of their Voice
It all leads to:
The Voice of Night Vale is a significant, needed position.
It’s possible that he holds the fractured town together, in a way, his words reminding the citizens to keep their will and hold onto what is in front of them. (In the case that the cold light is the Smiling God, this gives it a motive. If it takes out Cecil, the town is left vulnerable for it to devour.)
Just like the tree, Cecil is used by his town.
His mother knew that he would become the Voice one day- it was prophesized. That’s the reason he was given the tape recorder, that’s the reason she told this story.
We still don’t know what was in the book in the table.
Then, this very interesting quote from 182:
“I’ve been in this job for a long time. Probably longer than I’ve been alive. I mean: you’ve been alive.”
He says the truth for a moment, then backs up because that doesn’t make sense to him. Coupled the way his mother’s story parallels Cecil’s, with boy becoming the tree, becoming a resource that serves the town and seeing all of it (similar to how Cecil knows what’s happening in the town and what its citizens are thinking without leaving his studio. See: every traffic report and episodes likes A Story About Them.) and Cecil mentioning the odd nature of his job in 182..
I think we’re about to learn exactly what it means to be the Voice.

My Tma favorites (per entity per season)
In honor of the finale of Tma, I'm looking back and going through the seasons and picking out my favorite episodes. I'm sorting them by entity and Im gonna write a little piece at the end of each fear as to why I picked that episode.  It is relatively spoiler free but still keep your wits about you.
Also this is only up to Mag 197
The Stranger
Season 1: 1 Anglerfish tied with 34 Anatomy Class
Season 2: 77 The Kind Mother
Season 3: 83 Drawing a Blank, with 96 Return to Sender as a close second
Season 4: 128 heavy Goods
Season 5: 182 Well being, but 165 Revolutions is very very good
Overall: 1 Anglerfish
So all the of The Strangers’ episodes are really evocative and well written and I have to say that it was a very, very close call for almost every single season and I still cannot really decide if I truly like Mag 1 more than Mag 34 but I have to say that Mag 1 is so very good at drawing you into the world and works as a stand alone piece.
The Buried
Season 1: 2 Do Not Open
Season 2: 66 Held In Customs
Season 3: 97 We all Ignore the Pit
Season 4: 132 Entombed
Season 5: 184 Like Ants
Overall: 2 Do Not Open
I love Mag 2 as the protagonist straight up did not have any of this bullshit.  And they even got a mike drop moment with the frozen key.  Like in this house we stan Joshua Gillespie.  His determination to not have to deal with that shit is so incredibly strong that it sticks with you.
The Web
Season 1: 16 Aracnopobia
Season 2: 69 Thought for the Day
Season 3: 81 A Guest for Mister Spider
Season 4: 136 The Puppeteer
Season 5: 172 Strung Out
Overall: 81 A Guest for Mister Spider
Honestly Mag 81 is absolutely brilliant and serves to contextualise so much of season 1 and 2 and ends up being incredibly important to the world as a whole.  That plus the delivery and excellent premise gives it a slight edge over Mag 172 that is a pure exploration of the controlling and manipulative nature of addiction
The Vast
Season 1: 21 Freefall
Season 2: 75 A Long Way Down
Season 3: 91 The Coming Storm
Season 4: 124 Left Hanging
Season 5: 174 The Great Beast
Overall: 174 The Great Beast
So the first half of season 5 does an amazing job of truely fleshing out each fear and the Vast is no exception.  The split between the two protagonists makes it clear that The Vast is not just about big things or empty space but deep existentialism and the fear of the inevitability of life.
The Spiral
Season 1: 26 A Distortion
Season 2: 74 Fatigue
Season 3: 85 Upon the Stair
Season 4: 126 Sculptors Tool
Season 5: 177 Wonderland, tied with 187 Checking Out
Overall: 187 Checking Out
This one was difficult as Mag 177 and Mag 187 as both of them lingered in my head for literal weeks after listening to them.  In the end Mag 187 was so completely mind boggling in how it completely changed my perception of the Distortion.  And is a masterclass in writing a character twist.
The End
Season 1: 29 Cheating Death
Season 2: 70 Book of the Dead
Season 3: 94 Dead Woman Walking
Season 4: 155 The Cost of Living
Season 5: 168 Roots
Overall: 168 Roots
I have quite literally experienced some version of what the victims are describing.  But more than that the realisation of the implications of this domain for the world as it elevates the episode much higher than any of the Ends other appearances as eventually the other entities will fear the End just as the mortals do.
The Flesh
Season 1: 14 Piecemeal
Season 2: 58 Trail Rations
Season 3: 90 Body Builder
Season 4: 131 Flesh
Season 5: 171 The Gardener
Overall: 171 The Gardener
Everything about Mag 171 just speaks to me.  From the visual it conjures, to the brilliant use of botany metaphor to describe various body image issues, to Jared’s simple but weighty request.  This episode lives rent free in my brain at all times.  This is the first time that I have zero contenders for my favorite of an entity.
The Corruption
Season 1: 32 Hive
Season 2: 68 The Tale of a Field Hospital
Season 3: 102 Nesting Instinct
Season 4: 153 Love Bombing
Season 5: 164 The Sick Village
Overall: 32 Hive
Although Mag 164 does have a very particular place in my heart and in the history of literature due to its topic and the precise time it came out, but it does pale compared to just how brilliant Mag 32 is.   As the first real mention of the entities it reveals just little enough to keep the suspense whilst providing just enough answers that it's obvious in hindsight.  But once more none of that matters in the face of “There is a wasps nest in my attic” the shere delivery of this episode has placed it in many people's favourite lists.
The Slaughter
Season 1: 7 The Piper
Season 2: 42 Grifter’s Bone
Season 3: 105 Total War
Season 4: 125 Civilian Casualties
Season 5: 163 In the Trenches
Overall: 42 Grifter’s Bone
Mag 42 is very interesting.  I’ve mentioned in some of my other posts that Im pretty sure that Jonny Sims finds some fears harder to write and the Slaughter is definitely one of them but I’ve only come to this conclusion by looking at how frequently they show up but listening to the show you would never be able to tell and Mag 42 is one brilliant example of this it is a brilliant way to expand on how the Slaughter manifests.
The Desolation
Season 1: 37 Burnt Offering
Season 2: 67 Burning Desire
Season 3: 89 Twice as Bright
Season 4: 139 Chosen
Season 5: 169 Fire Escape
Overall: 67 Burning Desire
I find Mag 67 so intensely interesting as it leads into one of the major themes of Tma, that love can and will defeat and overpower even the most gripping fear.  The simple love of a simple man sowed just enough doubt to destroy an avatar of destruction.  Tma is filled with similar moments but personally this one is my favourite.
The Dark
Season 1: 25 Growing Dark
Season 2: 63 The End of the Tunnel
Season 3: 86 Tucked In
Season 4: 143 The Heart of Darkness
Season 5: 173 Night Night
Overall: 173 Night Night
I remember the reaction to Mag 173.  It was so incredibly powerful to watch most of the fanbase (myself included) react in exactly the same way the characters did to the reality of this domain.  First with dawning realisation, then anger followed sudden confusion at where to direct that anger.  It was quite eye opening to say the least.
The Hunt
Season 1: 10 Vampire Killer, with notable mention to 31 First Hunt
Season 2: 56 Children of the Night
Season 3: 112 Thrill of the Chase
Season 4: 133 Dead Horse
Season 5: 176 Blood Ties
Overall: 112 Thrill of the Chase
I absolutely love Mag 112.  It is such a brilliant idea, and as a result I end up valuing it a bit more than Mag 133 or 10 which are particularly telling for me as it proves that the Hunt is weirdly the fairest of the entities and absolutely condones fighting back and even killing its avatars or that it just cares about the circular nature of the hunt.
The Eye
Season 1: 23 Schwartzwald
Season 2: 53 Crusader
Season 3: 82 The Eyewitnesses
Season 4: 138 The Architecture of Fear
Season 5: 183 The Monument
Overall: 138 The Architecture of Fear
Oh Smirke.  Poor naive and enlightened Smirke.  I love Mag 138 more than the other Eye related episodes because it is due to this character that we even have a metric through which to observe the world of tma
The Lonely
Season 1: 33 Boatswain’s Call
Season 2: 48 lost in the Crowd
Season 3: 92 Nothing Besides Remains
Season 4: 159 The Last
Season 5: 170 Recollection
Overall: 170 Recollection
Covid lockdown hit me quite hard and I have not seen a single piece of media that captures the feeling of having hours and days drift into each other quite like Mag 170 so along with Mag 164 it has a very strange place in my heart.
The Extinction
So this one is a bit of a different situation so im gonna simply list my top five in order
175 Epoch
149 Concrete Jungle
65 Binary
157 Rotten Core
156 Reflection
Mag 175 is another example of a statement that my mind will drift to if I leave it alone for too long.  From the vivid visuals to the subtext of the descriptions to the delivery of every line it is easily one of the best episodes of Tma in my personal opinion.

1. Dyna’s New Form
Ok so definitely surprised that Dyna’s getting a new form despite 2022 being Dyna’s 25th Anniversary cause as a Neo Space Frontier Ultra, as far as we know now, there’s really nothing beyond the standard 3 forms minus Glitter since its a form that basically any ultra can achieve. Can’t say its Glitter Eternity either since it seems to be a unique existence in the AU Neo Space Frontier Universe of Trigger
Perhaps Dyna’s new form would shed more light on how the DoL ultras work? And would Tiga or even Trigger be able to access whatever form Dyna will be getting as well?
2. What seems to be missing from the list
Since the catalog would correspond to TDC, I’m surprised we dont see Mebius Infinity or Agul SV, perhaps in a later catalog list? But man this means that TDC would have way more than just 10 episodes which is definitely well within what we expected anyways
3. Other TsuPro characters
Yeah specifically referring to the last 4 characters in the UHS line everyone that follows TsuPro’s yt channel obviously saw this coming. Ngl I have never watched any of them but I hope their addition would help to build the Multiverse and we can expect good things from this cause tbh their involvement wasnt actually neccesary ngl so I hope theres big plans going forward with them
Tho I am pretty surprised we dont see Redman. But then again, he may be part of a later list
4. What does this mean for the theme for the next chronicle series?
Now this one is pretty interesting as we’re actually in uncharted waters as TDC would be occupying the slot when the Chronicle series usually takes place
And because the Chronicle series foreshadows the theme of the next ultra, which is most likely Regulus, I think I’ve figured out what exactly is going on with with all these bits and pieces of information.
Let us recall that the 2022 series would actually be the 10th New Gen series and looking at the catalog list, I heavily suspect that the Chronicle series would be featuring at least Taiga and Trigger (and most probably Z)
Now why if Regulus is obviously related to Leo and whatnot. Well its for the exact same reason why we got the New Gen Chronicle to foreshadow Taiga instead of a Taro Chronicle. The fact that we had the former instead of the latter suggests that TsuPro prioritizes the commemoration of era milestones more than what the theme of the next series will be for Chronicle themes. But there’s no doubt like prior to Taiga, we would see Leo episodes being posted by TsuPro alongside the Chronicle episodes. As for why specifically the first 3 Reiwa New Gen? Well since the theme is basically to commemorate the 10th New Gen series, and there was already a New Gen Chronicle series before, having the next 3 would just be a convenient to ‘fill the gap’
So I suspect that TDC would run from the week after Trigger ends to maybe a month or two before Regulus starts with the ‘New Gen Chronicle 2′ episodes airing all the way alongside
5. Trigger’s 3 part finale
So the UKS suggests that Carmilla gains yet another form even above her Vulthroom-empowered form. Which this means that there’s actually 3 stages of the final fight being:
1. Trigger vs Vulthroom
2. Carmilla getting empowered by Vulthroom, becoming the fusion that was listed in the previous leak
3. The fusion gaining access to the Eternity Core, thus getting even further empowered, thus becoming Demonozoa Carmilla Eternity
Ya ngl I suspect that Trigger would attain Glitter form at the end as it makes perfect sense since he has already been powercreeped in round 2 and Glitter would obviously be stronger than Glitter Eternity going by the lore as well as relative feats
Definitely some GOOD SHIT coming up
6. EX Series
ngl I havent been keeping up with figure releases ever since they stopped releasing DX figures but yo I see Grimude? Cant find any result on this line either tho, is it an entirely new one? And whats the difference btw EX and DX? Like I know that EX could sometimes just be normal figures or sometime like Imago Hyper Zetton
(Hell Im definitely buying Grimude if it's basically a DX equivalent)
Tho looking at the list for UKS, and considering the scale of TDC, i wont be surprised if all these kaiju would be showing up
Ngl Mebius Infinity would be the perfect match for Grimude if Reiga is unavailable due to Grigio being Grigio Darkness
