Whump Prompts - Coffee
@wild-selenite-caffine for you <3 Just some fresh-brewed whump prompts to start your morning off right. Enjoy~
Tumblr media
Whumper bringing a hot cup of coffee to a shivering Whumpee’s lips. It scalds them instantly, but Whumpee knows they’ll die if they don’t get warm fast.
“What? Did you expect sugar and cream? Get used to disappointment.”
Whumpee is starving, twitching and curled up on the floor. They immediately brighten when Whumper sets a cup of coffee down in front of them. Then their face falls as they realize it’s stale, over-brewed, and cold. They can barely choke it down and all it does is add to the churning acid.
Whumper throwing scalding coffee on Whumpee. Whumpee writhes and screams, trying to swat it off of them while Whumper calmly pours another cup.
“You don’t need sleep. Here, have another cup.”
Whumper offering Whumpee a sip of coffee. When Whumpee accepts, Whumper takes a sip themself, then presses their lips to Whumpee’s, directing the morsel into their mouth.
Whumpee forced to make coffee for Whumper. Whumper dumps it on them if they aren’t 100% satisfied with the quality.
"More. I want it boiling."
Forcing Whumpee’s hand over the brewing coffee as it drips down - blood eventually mingling with the brew as Whumpee screams.
Grounds ground into open wounds.
Caretaker brining Whumpee a cup of coffee in the morning without really thinking about it, and Whumpee just….staring at it. Someone just offered them something. Not because they had to or because Whumpee earned it. They just…gave them something. To share in a moment with them. Whumpee can’t comprehend it.
“How much of this would you have to drink before your heart gives out? Nevermind - let’s just see.”
Forcing Whumpee to eat coffee grounds.
Whumper’s hands shaking with the excessive caffeine - it makes the cuts jagged and tearing.
Whumper wrenching Whumpee’s head over their cup of coffee, letting the cascading tears drip into it before throwing Whumpee aside again. Drinking it silently while they watch Whumpee sob on the floor.

ok so larry and geeta
i really hate to rag on a character other people like for my own blorbo so uh, geeta fans i am so so sorry i would recommend skipping this post, i doubt its actually this deep </3 you are allowed to like her prommy
ok but ACtual analysis time, what the FUCK is up with larry and geeta (people who have never had a shitty two faced boss before ask. /j)
larry expresses anti institutional ideologies a lot, he wants to do things outside the system hes in will allow. he expresses a lot of negativity about his position, a lot of remarks which could rock the boat. which they HAVE with the amount of people now realizing most gym leaders have second jobs. and the system might! be kinda fucked! and deal shitty pay and is just kinda a whole gimmick of an industry in the whole universe. and larry sorta points directly at that, when he actively complains about Having to be a gym leader, Having to be an e4 member.
Geeta in this position would fucking hate Larrys guts! and would also point to her just quietly not saying anything when the player likes larry most. Because Geeta doesnt just dislike larry in this position. Geeta dislikes the ideals hes lowkey pioneering here. And when the player likes larry, its like the player is siding with larry. The player believes hes in the right, not Geeta, and it directly pits the player and Geeta at odds, in a very quiet way.
Geeta cant say shit. Geeta has to keep up the appearance of one big happy league full of amazing, positive members and they're all strong and etc etc. She keeps the facade of the entire league. Whether she genuinely loves the league or not, she has to keep an incredibly dedicated face up about the view of the league. But this same rule doesn't apply in private. The gym leaders, her workers have to keep that facade also, especially with Geeta, but Geeta doesnt have to give them that same light of day. Geeta can do whatever she wants, and the gym leaders just kinda have to deal with it.
i very much believe geeta and larrys relationship proposes this really. really sad idea. because geeta is larrys boss, and they. really dont like eachother! and geeta has. power. larry is afraid she will "dock his pay" for chitchat. but really it comes down to his chit chat going against the status quo, the status quo which Geeta benefits from. And ultimately, she does have the power to dock him for chit chat. She can rob him for being honest. And while Geeta's true treatment of the gym leaders as a manager will probably remain unknown, Larry's existence really offers the idea that it's probably not a great role.
Larry is not special. And thats the problem. Hes not breaking ass to go all out on a cute gimmick, hes not loving the institution as much as everyone else is to the point of doing more than its worth. Hes just doing the bare minimum to get by. Actively complains about his job, which for people in the right spheres it could seem like a huge deal to be a gym leader, and an elite four member. like bro! thats awesome! you just get to do pokemon battles all day! but really its not. once you live in the system, and you get sick enough of it, it loses its luster, and you realize that its just another grind, dodging pay cuts, trying to please the right people and constantly bust ass just to pay for the rent on your apartment and maybe groceries.
Larry is a pawn in the same system as everyone else. Geeta needs larry to be special. But he wont be. And Geeta doesn't take well to that.
Thats why hes the exceptional ordinary man. His ordinariness is what makes him the exception.

Hi,
As a reenactor who fires muskets on historic battlefields, I joke when I lose a pewter button marked "4" that future archaeologists would be so confused because the 4th Regiment of Foot was never there during the American War of Independence.
Although this is a joke, I would like to know a little about how archaeologists can tell replicas from the real thing, especially on objects like pewter or brass buttons and the like where carbon dating isn't an option (I don't think??)
Oooh, this is an awesome question! I'm going to answer by pretending that the fact that it's from a regiment that was never there wouldn't be a huge giveaway. It's also entirely possible that someone just digging it up could be fooled. (Although that's not to say that a button from a regiment that was never involved with a conflict has never ended up somewhere it shouldn't be. People trade things or make due with what they have, and that can lead to all sorts of interesting situations.)
The unscientific answer is an archaeological vibe check. The first step for analysis either in a lab or in the field is to determine what you do and don't know, and how those line up with processes of deposition and taphonomy. Essentially, does this button pass the vibe check for being old enough to be from the Revolutionary War? If it is old enough, was it deposited in during the course of the war or sometime after?
First component of the vibe check is stratigraphy. If you dropped your button, it's going to wind up on the top of the ground surface, which is probably at least several inches (if not several feet) above the 1700s ground surface. This is due to the law of superposition, and why archaeology requires so much digging. Even if you did manage to get your button all the way down there, we would be able to tell that the ground had been disturbed.
The second component of the vibe check would be wear marks. A button that's more than 200 years old will not have survived that long out in the elements unscathed. Your button, even if it sees some action (pun very much intended) is always going to be younger than an original.
There is also the matter of manufacturing. Unless your button is being made by some guy using the exact same materials and techniques that were in use in the 1700s, there will be minute differences that we can probably figure out in a lab setting.

First of all in the new fallen hero revelations demo, I absolutely love armadillo (I have said that I was looking forward to sidestep meeting other non-cuckoo regenes and this meeting already lived up to a lot of my expectations) (really excited to see how this plays out)
Second of all I think that little aside of how there are no gendered pronouns in the re-gene language and how only cuckoos learned to apply them is really interesting and funny (as well as another point in the murderbot-breq-sidestep compare and contrast schema in my head). Since it further emphasizes the connection between being seen as a person and performing gender correctly, but also it is a funny difference between the normal regenes and the cuckoo.
Like I think that it explains some of the complexes surrounding gender sidestep has. What if when training you were the only one getting comments like that really that kick wasn’t very ladylike or you need to start punching like a man. All the other regenes barely know what gender is and sidestep has to pass the weekly ‘Men and Women: What are They? And How To Behave and Interact Like One’ exam.

Post structuralist anon here TYSM that was a very interesting perspective, I also don't know much abt post structuralism tbh, its a new thing I discovered while rereading Orv and looking at meta posts lol. Anyways you mentioned LHS in the post too 👀 can you elaborate cuz ngl it's kinda hard to think of any meta abt him. You don't have to answer this rn!
sure!
i was talking about how orv adults frequently have very gendered arcs, and lhs is a standout example imo. yjh and ysa have the more overtly Gendered Fictional Role stuff (male action hero and female heroine respectively) but lhs has a comparatively more grounded arc that deals with real life highly gendered stuff. his entire thing is that he's a soldier. and not just that he's a soldier, but that he was drafted and could not figure out a better place to exist outside the military. despite the military being a source of trauma for him, despite it crushing any individuality he could have, he still felt like he could not act as an agent of his own destiny without someone giving him orders. when you consider that in south korea the military draft is mandatory for men, that's a really highly gendered background!

Sometimes I feel like I write really... simple? Which isn't a bad thing. Just sometimes rereading my stuff feels like I'm reading a fairy tale (ignoring the actual Faerie Stories I write galore lol)
#rant#mejo writing#like. i get it? part of it is i lean toward simpler words because i want as MANY people to understand what i mean as possible#and im used to tutoring a lot of people of varying vocabulary and the simpler more understandable words the BETTER when#trying to teach math frankly. and then also when i speak in french or chinese i likewise lean toward more common words#since im more certain im expressing myself in the way i intend. whereas if i use specialized chinese words theres a higher risk i say#something i didnt mean. and in general i just notice a lot of things i got used to in french grammar i...#oddly ended up integrating into how i write english. which is absolutely bizarre to me. and tjen since reading more chinesr#ive really adapted to more SHORT sentences just focusing on making my point.#and then of course. my biggest style influences are haruki murakami and edgar allan poe.#i dont pick as perfect words as poe (unfortunately). but i like the idea of prose written as if its poetry. with thought put into#the length of sentences and SINGLE WORDS as sentences. and cut off sentences. and alliteration. to control#the reader experience and affect the impact of the prose on the emotions.#and then murakami lol. murakami??? my favorite short story he wrote is The Kangaroo Communique#which i think explains a LOT about why the fuck i write the way i do#have you ever read his stories in The Elephant Vanishes???#its like this... the ideas and words and settings are ordinary. but the experience is emotional and surreal and magical and it swallows you#inside the narrator's head.#and you truly have no idea what objective reality in the story is. only what the character narrating is Claiming to experience (and they#might be lying about themselves and whete their attention is too).#and i LOVE it. i love it i love it. it FEELS like being in my mind. so i try to write that way.#and i almost feel like when the prose is simpler words... its more like how a general person may think things#(at least how i do. with simple understandable explanation) and so its easier to suck the reader into the#narration pov's mind#and get them to feel what the character feels and notice what the charqcter avoids. and feel reality of the story#becoming as warped and unreliable as the narrator.

Give me a scene we're right after Eddie has his upside down guitar solo(inevitably saving someone or being a diversion), Steve has to use the guitar as a weapon cause there are monsters coming. Steve obliterates the guitar defending them and Eddie is just looking at him with broken guitar pieces in his hand like "wtf that was my baby girl... " And Steve is just like "really dude, I just saved your life..."
I just think that would be funny...

in your most recent post you said light is making more decisions about his kills than is readily apparent, would you mind elaborating on that? I’m pretty new to the fandom, and I haven’t seen much on that topic
yes absolutely!! thank you for asking!
basically, there are two categories of murders that light preforms:
murders under kira’s name
murders preformed by light, in secret. no one except light and ryuk ever learn about these
as kira, light isn’t indiscriminately killing anyone who breaks the law. he’s only killing people kira believes deserves to die. we don’t know exactly what the parameters are, but there are a few clues scattered around:
he is explicitly not killing people who kill out of self-defence, or people who kill out of what he considers justifiable revenge
he is not killing people who have committed crimes without ill-intent, or people who have already served their sentences — when mikami starts doing so, he gets in contact with takada to stop him
he doesn’t seem to care about white collar crime —  L thinks it’s out of character when the third kira (higuchi) starts killing white collar criminals
there’s also a general sense that he’s killing people who commit crimes against those who are in some way vulnerable. this isn’t specifically stated anywhere, but a number of characters (including matsuda) talk about how kira is standing up for the weak
it’s also worth mentioning that every single character, without exception, agrees that the people kira is killing have done genuinely morally reprehensible things. i don’t think there’s any reason to think that’s not the case.
in practise, he does end up killing quite a few people who’ve committed minor crimes (ex. the purse snatcher he kills during the whole potato chip thing.) these are very clearly delineated as out of the ordinary, and are not a part of kira’s core philosophy. they’re extremely important, though, because they demonstrate that light has no issues whatsoever compromising kira’s principles. this is because kira's principles are not the same as light's principles.
in secret, light is also killing what he calls ‘immoral people, and people who harass others.’ he’s doing this via illness and accidents, and does not want this to be immediately associated with kira. i think this is probably one of the more interesting things about his entire philosophy. once he’s decided one group of people is okay to kill, he’s happy to decide other people are, too. various characters are willing to sacrifice the lives of people who've committed crimes (by ceasing to pursue kira) because they think it will make them safer, but light ... literally just does not care. kira does, but light does not. he feels just as guiltless killing people who are rude to one another as he does people who've committed serial murders. he isn't actually protecting law-abiding people or the weak and the vulnerable. he's not protecting anyone.
(so basically tl;dr he’s making more choices than is readily apparent and then beneath those choices he’s making other, even worse choices)
