***Spoilers for Seraph of the End manga chapter 131***

I just wanna talk about Mika and Yuu's changes in demeanor in this chapter. This page, in particular, was actually really sad to me.

Mika, while going along with Yuu's plans and ideas, was never really enthusiastic or optimistic about their chances of turning him back into a human. He was never super invested in saving his own life, but now that it's Yuu's life, he's suddenly super motivated. It's sad to me because it really emphasizes Mika's disregard for his own life. He didn't care as much about saving himself, but it's clear that he's about to pour all of himself and then some into keeping Yuu safe. It makes a depressing kind of sense. He's always been like this. Even as a kid, he gave up his body and blood to a vampire in order to provide for his family. He gave his life to distract Ferid to ensure that at least Yuu made it out alive. He then spent the next four years starving himself in order to keep as much of his humanity as possible and searching for Yuu. Once he found him, it was his single-minded mission to take Yuu away from the people who might be hurting him and to keep him safe. Mika has always held other people's lives, especially Yuu's, far above his own, and this chapter made this even more apparent.

Honestly, Yuu is the same way. He is 100% willing to sacrifice himself for the people he loves. Mika knows this, which is why he wanted Yuu to promise not to do exactly that. But notice, Yuu managed to avoid actually making the promise. Mika kept asking, but Yuu kept changing the subject.

I hope that doesn't come back to bite us later...

As for Yuu's change in demeanor, it is also very telling. While Mika seems upbeat and motivated now that he can focus on keeping Yuu safe, Yuu seems more subdued and much less enthusiastic about it. Yuu was putting all of himself into trying to save Mika, but now that he's the one who needs to stay safe, he doesn't seem as driven. Yuu and Mika have literally swapped places. They are both ready to give their all to protect each other while at the same time being reluctant to give anywhere near that same amount of energy when it comes to helping themselves.

"Well you aren't exactly a prize catch yourself, Mr Vampire.

He scoffed as he continued to walk in front of you, the click of his heel slightly more audible as you managed to pick up the annoyed glimmer in his usually dead eyes.

However, it was oddly refreshing to see him like this.

If you were 100% objective, you weren't sure why the two of you weren't at each others throats by now because if this were a battlefield one of you would most likely already be on the ground, long dead and forgotten.

But this wasn't a battlefield.

Against all odds you managed to form a strange camaraderie with the even stranger vampire. His attitude was absolutely dreadful though - he was always bitter and never in a good mood. Whenever you would try to lighten the mood he would just stare at you, was it menacingly or something else you weren't too sure but you often called him out on it. He would always curtly apologize, promising to stop but he never really did. Even when the two of you would go your separate ways you could have sworn on your kidneys that Mikaela was still watching, somewhere, just luring in the shadows like a little beast you'd begrudgingly call cute.

Compliments never failed to stun him though and they became your favorite ways of attacking him.

You'd sing him various praises as his back was turned to you, his posture stiff and awkward.

Something you never noticed was how he never actually told you to openly stop.

The thing is, Mikaela didn't have the heart to do so, the little meetings became the absolute highlight of his day. He could feel the soft crunch of the snow beneath the heel of his shoe as he would make his way towards your little meeting point, his thoughts filled with your voice and sweet scent.

He couldn't help but to hate you a little for that.

the way kagami justified the common trope of vampires not tolerating sunlight as it being in ons the consequence of the fallen angel turning against god i.e. light itself and hiding from their gaze outside of light thus creating darkness out of light in doing so, and ultimately being punished by being unable to stand in the light because god “will not turn their eyes upon you again„ is actually such a cool move

Chapter 127 and Possibilities for Mikaela's Character Progression

i'm trying to piece together my thoughts on how this is supposed to be developing our understanding of Mika's character, and what this means for his overall character arc.

Time and time again, we witness Mika's selfless actions—and how far he's willing to push himself just to ensure that the people he cares about are safe. We've already seen Mika kill himself on three separate occasions: and each time has been of his own volition and sacrifice.

I saw someone on Twitter mention that perhaps the moral theme of ONS will turn out to be that Yu must learn to let go of Mika, but I don't think this is the case.

Yu has always had a passive role in relation to every time Mika has decided to off himself. As a homunculus, he was kicked out of the fighting area between Mikaela and Paimon; as an empty vessel, he simply waited for Sika Madu to resurrect Mikaela; as a human, he was ordered/forced by child Mika to run away, and then forced to watch vampire Mika give his life to protect him.

In other words, Yu has never had a choice on whether he could "keep" Mika around, because he was never actively partaking in the choice.

Moreover, I think that what this means for our current Mika, is that he must actually learn to be selfish. He must learn to put himself before others.

Every time Mika has died, in one way or another, it was for someone else. Mika choses to die, time and time again, because he has this self-perceived notion that the happiness and well-being of other's whom he cares deeply about is above his own.

I think this also ties into Mika's horrendous self-image and self-worth—which we see mostly when Mika is a vampire, and briefly as a demon.

Of course, this brings up a lot of questions as to why Kagami handeled vampire Mika the way he did for so long, but I digress.

Throughout the entire story of ONS, Mikaela has always been selfless; not just in death, but also in life. He gives himself up to Ferid to provide for his orphan family, he holds Seraph Yu back from killing his squad, he comes to the aid of the Shinoa squad despite quarreling, etc.

So, I think that now—especially because not once do we ever see demon Mika's face in chapter 127 as the entire ordeal occurs—Mika must realize he can't be selfless. He can't just keel over and die for others. He needs to start being selfish and wanting things: he needs to want to live. It's ironic, because Yu even tells Mika when they reunite in chapter 36 that he won't listen to anyone who so easily throws their life away.

Perhaps Mika's learned selfishness will play a key role in ensuring Yu is able to resurrect both humanity and Mika. Selfishness does share a similar weight to the seven sins biblically, and given just how biblical ONS is, perhaps sin itself will aid in the ordeal.

your feelings for the Ichinose boy run deep, a little part of you crushing on just his looks when he first arrived at this school, only growing on you since then. His personality when he really got comfortable was charming, and he always had that goofy look on his face when students pulled mean tricks on him like he didn't care. A pretty face. He never lets others bother him it seems, even when he talks all lesson to the boy beside him and tries to ignore him. You could look past the Ichinose Clan part, that was the least of your worries. After all, even Mahiru Hīragi could look past that.

you see her around him a lot, and they seem to know each other and get along well. She's always smiling around him, and while he doesn't exactly look like he's having the best day of his life he looks happier to hear from her than most other students. You suppose he would be with a smart and pretty girl paying attention to him, let alone one quite so impossibly beautiful as her. A once in a century genius. How could you ever hope to compete with a person like that?

it was a nigh impossible task, so you give up, and you watch. You know that he is only yours in your little daydreams, and the moment you blink them away and return to reality he goes right back to being Mahiru's as he always was.

─ ୨୧： shinya hīragi

since you joined the army you had at least a bit of a liking toward him, though it was quite minor at first, nothing too big. You just liked how nice he was to you, even helping you out at times when he noticed you were struggling a bit with your weapon. With his help you got closer to him at least in your eyes, the confidence he oozed enough to make you feel safe and in good hands. You trusted he knew what he was doing and it kept paying off to trust his advice.

it kept you asking for more of his help, knowing that slowly the help was becoming less of your focus and it was slowly shifting to the man himself. Something about him is so handsome, yet also quite cute.

then you heard he had once had a fiancée, and you realised that if that was everything he wanted in a partner that you would be stepping way out of your league. She was a Goddess put on earth in the form of a high school girl, perfect if not for her one fatal flaw in which she was dead after committing acts that disgraced her family. That explained why nobody spoke of her until you heard it from the girl's own sister.

slowly you were inching your way further into his life, and slowly you will inch your way back out. Even as a dead woman, You know that to that standard, you are still just a bumbling and confused little child.

─ ୨୧： kureto hīragi

a bad little habit you have with Aoi is the gossip once work is over, going to shower and change in the showers together one stall apart just to talk about various tidbits you'd picked up throughout the days. You'd learned many…interesting things that way. Most notably however was in the midst of washing your hair, letting the water wash out the product when she so happened to mention that she might just have deeper feelings for Kureto than she usually lets on. It's more than just respect, at least as she put it. You almost got shampoo in your eyes.

of course you couldn't blame her, her feelings are something you can quite easily understand in fact, it's just… How are you supposed to be pitted against someone like Aoi who is loyal to a fault at her job? Thinking about it really…she is quite beautiful, and her family is in higher standing, she does anything that he asks of her, most importantly she is strong. You think if anything Kureto would value power, wouldn't he? He probably wouldn't be fond of protecting his lover all the time out of necessity, he'd prefer someone capable of doing that themselves, and while you certainly could, Aoi could do it better.

you can hear her as she knocks her hand against the wall of the shower stall, "Did you drown in there?" her voice brings you back again, and you give a quick no in response. You're out of the shower soon enough. It'd be easier to forget the conversation if not for the fact you both pass him again on your way back to the dorms and finally notice how she looks at him.

even without the threat of her own skill over yours, you're not sure you can take that away from her.

!OWARI NO SERAPH CHAPTER 121 SPOILER!

I have a theory I'd like to share but I'm probably reading too much into it.

So Yu wanted to take Mika to the Mt. Fuji but Mika wonders why they would do that.

Yu answered that he wants to make last memories with him in case they get killed.

When Yu mentions that, Mika starts pondering on his words, especially the two last words "last memories".

Apart from the fact that he realised they could probably die, I think the reason his expression changed was also because he remembered the last time he died, his last memory of his previous death before he turned into a demon. The time when he said "I love you, Yu. "

I'm probably hypothesizing too much but I like to believe that he remembered his last words before his death as a vampire.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that some people listens to 0 (zero) by LMYK, The case study of Vanitas' ending song, knowing that it's about Vanitas and Noé's relationship and still completely deny that the song could imply anything romantic?

Yet I'm 100% sure that if they listened to the song without any context attached to it they'll immediately categorize it as a romantic song

Or how they'll go through all of Seraph of the End manga and still think Yuu and Mika aren't in love with each other? Like we've read the same thing?? Have you seen the cheesy lovesick dialogues they've share through the whole story??

There's this idea that's been floating inside my mind for months now and I am extremely tempted to turn this into a full blown series of sorts. It's related to the latest chapters of Seraph of the End and they somehow get transported into our world and then they meet you, the reader, by sheer accident. You freak out because of course you do and when you try telling them that they're fictional characters it all backfires on you because whenever you try looking up their names on the Internet there is no information about them whatsoever... You are the only one in this world who knows who they are which could cause trouble. Under the cut are just some ideas how everyone would react to certain situations, your relationship with them, how they act around you and whatnot. Feel free to comment and share any ideas you have, I'm open to anything!

WARNING, SPOILERS LIE AHEAD‼️

❤️ YUUICHIRO HYAKUYA - He’s the first dummy you encounter by complete accident. You were just walking down the street and then there’s this idiot that just ran into you and was shouting like a crazy person. Where am I, why does everything look so weird, why are the buildings so good looking?! He helps you get back up on your feet of course but he is bombarding you with questions and you can’t process anything he’s saying. You notice his strange attire and piece together that he’s probably just a very dedicated cosplayer that was really getting into Yuu’s character. You tell him this with a smile on your face but he ends up thinking that you’re the idiot - why would he be faking this, what is wrong with you?! You’re out in the open, you could get pounced on at any second, oh God, where is his squad?!! After many hours pass and even grander hysterics Yuuichiro manages to convince you that he really is not faking anything and that everything he’s saying is true. It’s still a little hard to believe him but once you relax a little he takes a huge liking to you, especially if you buy him some food. You’ll most likely meet the Shinoa squad after a few days of searching for them, but right now I’m a bit more interested in exploring your personal relationship with him.

He probably sees you as someone very kind once he gets to talk to you, he even relaxes a bit and starts showing you his more playful and childish side more. You treat him like a kid brother but you’re so delicate with him, it’s so hard for him to contain the blush that’s creeping up on his face. You’re delicate with everyone he notices, it’s probably because you know everyone’s backstory and trauma so well. He thinks it’s fun that you know all of them inside and out like this, even if he was just a part of some story in your world. He’s a lovestruck puppy later on, he craves so much of your attention it’s insane. He can’t seem to understand that this world you live in is actually normal, no one can hurt him ever again and he can finally have a normal life... He needs adjusting, that’s for sure. His yandere side would probably be shown when he’s trying to protect you and when he gets jealous.

I’m so tempted to write more for him (for everyone if I'm being real ...) but I’ll try to keep it short and sweet, I have so many ideas it’s insane.

❤️ MIKAELA HYAKUYA - OKAY SO, I imagined that everyone in the cast gets transported here just after Mika gets tunred into a demon and before he can properly possess Yuu’s sword, he ends up attaching himself to you instead (he’s not a kid though!). You sense him all day, every day, but you can’t tell what keeps hovering over you all the damn time, why do you hear voices in your head? Mikaela is overjoyed to see that Yuu is safe but he doesn’t trust you when he sees you, everything about this entire situation is so bizzare he can’t make aynthing of it. The last thing he can recall seeing is a flashing light and then everything went quiet. He sensed your life force and was attracted to it, it was so comforting to feel you know? He explores your mind and desires but he’s limited, he can’t tred deeper for whatever reason. He gets to know you, he even talks to you from time to time and you indulge him, it’s.... well, he has no words really.

You decipher that you are indeed talking to Mikaela, which makes you very happy. He overheard all of your conversations with Yuu so he already knows everything you think - and he just doesn’t believe you. It doesn’t matter that he’s tempted to devour your heart, he wants answers and he wants them now damn it. He gets super huffy when you sleep, he always invades your dreams and forces you to tell him everything you know and what your plans for Yuu and the others are. However, he senses no malice in your heart, no evil, no ulterior motives.... What kind of human are you? He starts acting all overprotective of you, always chastising and fussing over you, like a cute boyfriend. He reads your mind and tells you to stop saying such stupid things but you tease him, it’s so fun to rile him up.

After a lot of research you discover an ancient spell which allows demons to be transformed back into a human, much to everyone’s surprise. With a few tweaks, there’s also a chance of turning vampires into humans as well... After years of darkness, despair and misery, perhaps Mika can allow himself to grasp this glimmer of hope and let a new person into his heart once again.

Something I'd like to point out is that the demon's can't talk to their humans here, at least not for a period of time. The only reason you can talk to Mika is because he attached himself to you and only through him can you even get close to Asuramaru and the others. They probably got a little spooked by everything and went into a state of comatose, the demons in our world probably aren't very happy to see these strangers all over their territory now.

❤️ SHINOA HIIRAGI - Out of everyone, Shinoa is the one who manages to blend in with modern society the most, she takes no time in indulging in modern trends, foods, games, you name it! it’s scary, especially seeing how hard everyone else is handling these sudden changes but you manage to understand her a little better thanks to Yuu’s help and her finally confessing her true feelings on the matter. After years of abuse and war, it just feels so good to just unwind. In this world she is not a Hiiragi, she is not a soldier, she is not a damn test subject, she is just a normal girl that was blessed to live a normal, fullfiling life and it was all thanks to your help.

As a yandere, I can see her being romantic or platonic, it really could go either way with her. She’s just happy to have you by her and her friends side, that’s her biggest desire now.

❤️ MITSUBA SANGU - She tries to play it cool but her paranoia eats her from the inside out, it’s so difficult for her to grasp the situation, please just let her breathe. Shinoa teases her from time to time, which also does not help one bit.... She probably gets into fights with random strangers on the street because she sort of forgot how to act in a normal society so everything just frustrates her to no end. She’s always thinking like a soldier, always ready to strike, always ready to defend herself and her loved ones... But once you show her that she’s safe, Mitsu shows you her gentler side, even indulging in some of those fun activites Shinoa likes so much. She also really likes you, she just isn’t willing to say it out loud.

...She’s really grateful to you, you know? When she stares at the moon she feels happy to have met you, feels relieved for being allowed this second chance at life. That’s why she tires so hard to protect you, she owes you everything.

❤️ YOICHI SAOTOME - Ah, baby boy, baby... He’s a cute little baby in your eyes, you probably end up spoiling him the most with your affection by accident because of his cuteness, much to everyone’s chagrin. For a lot of the people here it takes time for them to develop feelings for you but this guy feel fast and hard. It’s so easy to overlook the fact that Yoichi really is not the cute little boy you think he is... Please, don’t treat him like he’s weak, he is anything but weak. He feels like bursting into tears whenever you call him cute, he doesn’t want to be cute he wants to be manly! He carries the death of his sister on his shoulders and you remind him of her so much it hurts...

He’s one of the more unhinged ones, shall we say.

❤️ SHIHO KIMIZUKI - This hardass I swear ... I already feel like throwing hands with him, he's so frustrated with you!! His crush is so obvious but like Mitsuba, he just can't say anything out loud!!! He tries so hard to impress you but is more subtler at it than Yuu which does earn him some brownie points. Not that intense of a yandere unless he gets provoked... Which happens easily, he also fights with random pedestrians on the street.

As for blending in, he's not that bad actually. He's nowhere near as smooth as Shinoa but compared to the rest of his squad he is definitely second best (please praise him on this one...). I'd say out of everyone he was already the most "normal one" and his usually level headed nature can come in handy from time to time.

❤️ SHINYA HIIRAGI - Sweet man, perfect man. Spoiled boy #2 when it comes to your affections but he's not humble about it at all. He may or may not get slapped by someone if the two of you get too touchy with each other!

Shinya does a good job at keeping his happy and composed poker face, not allowing anyone to see the fear that's blooming in his heart every single day. While he does take comfort in the fact that he doesn't need to fight so much here that still doesn't really lessen his worries now, does it? He's worried about his team and the kids, Guren too... He can't find Guren anywhere and that gives him a headache, please help him ... Ever since he was a kid he was trained to keep his emotions in check but it all comes crashing down once he falls in love with you. You hold him in your arms and pet his hair, you tell him how proud you are of him for coming so far and for keeping it together... And that's when he breaks. He cries, he cries so hard he can't see nor breathe. Your entire shoulder is wet due to his tears but you don't mind.

❤️ GUREN ICHINOSE- This guy actually manages to hold his ground quite well in this world if he were to say so. Guren is very intelligent so he managed to figure things out and got a part time job to get some money, he found a place of his own and sometimes checks up on his teammates in the shadows from time to time. He doesn't come back to them because he feels so guilty for putting them through so much hell, for destroying the world and he feels guilty because he was given a second chance at a new life too. He doesn't deserve to be here, he knows it.

Your and Guren's relationship is incredibly rocky and he forces you not to say a word to anyone about him being where he is, he knows they'll come looking for him if you do. The two of you fight so much, you even fight in front of other people when you're outside in the open. Some people even say you look like a married couple, which both of you furiously deny. All of that anger comes crashing down one night, a night where Guren makes a stupid decision and kisses you. It feels good, it feels so good but it's wrong, he can't do this to you.

He's already hurt so many people, he won't be able to live if he hurts you too.

This got longer than I expected but it was super fun to write! But I'll stop here for now and dedicate this bit to the humans (Mika isn't a human but he gets a pass ❤️)
