The ORC Alliance Grows
meanwhile, at Paizo Blog (published January 19, 2023) :
Tumblr media
Over the course of the last week, more than 1,500 tabletop RPG publishers, from household names going back to the dawn of the hobby to single proprietors just starting out with their first digital release, have joined together to pledge their support for the development of a universal system-neutral open license that provides a legal “safe harbor” for sharing rules mechanics and encourages innovation and collaboration in the tabletop gaming space.
The alliance is gathered. Work has begun.
It would take too long to list all the companies behind the ORC license effort, but we thought you might be interested to see a few of the organizations already pledged toward this common goal. We are honored to be allied with them, as well as with the equally important participating publishers too numerous to list here. Each is crucial to the effort’s success. The list below is but a representative sample of participating publishers from a huge variety of market segments with a huge variety of perspectives. But we all agree on one thing.
We are all in this together.

Why do you think Imogen/Laudna is not comparable to Caleb/Veth? At the start of C3, I thought they were similar and thought it was a strange how much Imogen/Laudna was being held up as the pinnacle of relationships in comparison to the hate/minimization that Caleb/Veth got. But I rewatched C2E27 and remembered how honestly they talked through their disagreement, which was way different from Imogen/Laudna's C3E27 reconciliation after the gnarlrock drama. What are your thoughts about it?
(got another anon on this as well as I was writing this up, so other anon, this is also for you!)
That's exactly the same moment I was thinking of! Veth and Caleb are able to disagree with each other in a way Imogen and Laudna aren't. Honestly, even from earlier, they're able to ask things of each other - Caleb outright asks Nott if she'll run away with him, alone, away from the group, if his reveal to Beau goes badly. Nott, even when half the party is missing, in the wake of Molly's death, when all she has is Beau (who she's known for a month and a half) and two allies she's known for a couple of days at most, is able to say "Wrong." to Caleb about something as important, but also as unnecessary as admitting that he cares about the other party members as friends, not just useful alliances. And that's the other thing - Nott is actively encouraging Caleb to make other connections and embracing her own new friendships, and she's willing to risk Caleb being mad with her - which for her, means risking her chance to get back her own body and life - to do it. And this is after less than a year of knowing him.
Laudna can't even say "will you promise not to side with the person who murdered me," let alone point out that Otohan also murdered Fearne, Orym, Eshteross, and Orym's husband and father-in law or that Ludinus casually destroyed Kadija's mind. She can't say this to someone she's lived and traveled with for two years, when the other five party members would all agree with her and stand by her. There's no trust. You know the phrase "if you love someone, let them go?" Laudna's too terrified to let go, and Veth isn't.
(I should note - I like Caleb and Veth's dynamic a lot but I never shipped them; but I also will defend them against anyone who denies that there were feelings, or who tries to pretend that Veth's statement that Caleb was like a son to her overrides her later statements about having a crush, or, you know, the fact that they aren't actually related so who the fuck cares. I mean, Vex and Keyleth canonically tell each other they consider each other sisters and that never stopped anyone. So this does come from a place of not shipping either of these pairs.)
So this is why "Imogen and Laudna were never given choices" statement is so hollow and meaningless. Because they're rendering themselves powerless and stripping themselves of all choices. They can't draw boundaries. (For what it's worth, Campaign 1's codependent pair, the twins, are able to draw boundaries without issue; Vax tells Vex to lay off Keyleth quite explicitly despite having only recently agonized over being separated from her for a few days). They can't choose themselves. They can't challenge each other or encourage each other's growth or ask something so important and yet so small as being honest with one's self. They're just so stuck in this holding pattern, even after they've grown in power and seen the possibility of losing each other, whereas Caleb and Veth's relationship constantly changes as they support and challenge each other and ask things of each other. You know what Veth does in episode 48 of that campaign? She screams at Caleb in anger because people connected to him hurt her family, even though Caleb has long since left those people and was a victim himself. Laudna can't even stand up for herself to Imogen (and we know Laudna can stand up for herself; that's what she's doing in the scene with Ashton) against her own murderer, even as Imogen outright entertains the possibility of allying with the Vanguard.
Caleb and Veth trust each other and themselves to still love and care for each other if they disagree. Laudna and Imogen do not.

I think there's an interesting slight shift in Leonidas' attitude between chapters 8 and 12, and one that kinda makes a bit more complete narrative between the more obvious 12-16 jump.
First, in a niche Dragalia trivia, Leonidas (and Chelle) in his technical ch.7 debut says this:
"And so Aurelius's brilliant star falls as a new and dark star rises—as well as another dim light at the periphery. But the flames of battle will not reach Valkaheim. Should any fool approach, it is they who will be reduced to ash."
While there's a lot to say with later context in these lines despite their initial ambiguity of his character, note here of the 'dim light' refers to Euden. He's starting to cause a fuss in the world after ch.6's shakeup in the official rebellion and new kingdom-starting he's engaging in, but to Leo, this is all mostly meaningless compared to the true power players.
Ch.8 Leo, though, comes out swinging with his general attitude regarding the world and his family:
Tumblr media
There's something funny that he's aware enough of Euden starting his own kingdom, but still seeing him and going 'nope, I care not a whit about you, grain of dust' is amusing. Maybe after Valyx, Leonidas just got tired of having baby siblings?
Regardless, Leonidas mostly spends this chapter leaving them to presumably die bad deaths, having deemed them too weak and unimportant to even bother attending to personally.
But even within chapter 8, as Euden and co refuse to die and keep up their dogged pursuit, Leonidas starts to acknowledge Euden as a brother. Not enough to stop him from trying to leave him to get torn apart by beasts, of course, but, y'know, baby steps for someone who was denying kinship not a day ago.
Tumblr media
He also continues his star metaphor.
Tumblr media
For Leonidas, who viewed himself as the absolute pinnacle of the family, it was surprising anyone could survive him, however narrowly. He's being forced to consider that perhaps those beneath him in the family aren't quite as useless as perceived. Heck, Euden's 'reputation' overall in the family before canon seemed to be largely one of weakness, -even Valyx outright claims he thought him feeble, and Emile's earlier fondness of him stemmed from being 'better' than Euden. That's how Euden framed himself, to appear non-threatening to attempt to maintain harmonious relations so his elders didn't see an upstart threatening their power, as I've went over a long long time ago.
Now he's being forced to consider and wonder how high, how powerful Euden's dim star can rise before it will be crushed by someone or something greater in his 'one star' viewpoint.
Enter chapter 12. One of the things that makes Leonidas so dangerous, I've also said, is his adaptability. He learns and changes behavior.
And in this chapter, he takes a much more personally involved attack, sending in his 'big guns' (before he acquired a real one) in much quicker. He now views Euden as a threat enough to warrant the measures, even if he doesn't believe in his capacity to win.
Tumblr media
Moreover, he's starting to oddly (at least, to me?) stress a quick death for Euden and his group, whereas before, it was of absolutely no concern to him whether they died slowly and agonizingly from Mars' burns to getting torn apart by fiends. It comes across to me as a sort of recognition of Euden's ability and/or bravery, a sort of respect for him as a warrior enough to not prolong his death or otherwise make it painful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's also starting to actually communicate on some level what his true goals are and why, whereas ch.8 Leo largely seems to think even that level of communication would be wasted on such 'insects'. And while he doesn't entertain Euden's counterarguments for long, it might indicate a sort of acknowledgement of Euden as a opponent to lock ideals with instead of a simple obstacle to hurdle mindlessly?
All in all, it reads to me as if he's made the shift of viewing Euden as an insect to an opponent, a weaker opponent, of course, but one nonetheless. Able enough to be acknowledged as being kin, even as he's seems like he's trying to distance himself when preparing to kill him.
Tumblr media
This trend continues immediately after the tables are turned. Leonidas acknowledges Euden as brother and king, and is more upset at the notion that Euden doesn't want to kill him since he likely thinks that now Euden sees him as the 'able to be safely ignored weakling' as well as wanting to die of shame.
Tumblr media
Continuing into ch.13, Leonidas immediately then protects Euden from Phares, even incorporating a new word into his vocabulary in the process!
Tumblr media
Then, of course, is his and Chelle's conversation to further bridge the gap, in which he starts establishing Euden has earned a more complete respect as kin now despite not actually sharing a true lineage, and respect enough to ask another sibling to protect him.
Tumblr media
So yeah. Even if ideally I do think some more dialogue would help to bridge the gap between before-16-Leonidas and after-16-Leonidas, I do think that they overall tried to make a cohesive progression even in the 8-12 shift from 'insect' to 'opponent I can somewhat respect' to 14-16's more complete respect. Alas, since the writing team only had so many story sections they could have and a lot of characters and plotlines to juggle, they could only spend a bit of time re. Leonidas, but for what it's worth they did a decent job with what they had.
Extra aside: I find it funny Leonidas was the first to 'exit' the main campaign. He features in 8, 12, and 16, with smaller appearances in 7, 10, etc, but after 16 he's effectively poofed even if he's still influential in the plot. Even Valyx lasted longer for on screen chapters since he was tagging along with Nedrick and Zethia, before he and most all siblings exited at ch.23 to then die in ch.25 (this is why leaving the protagonist's party isn't a good idea Chelle-)

Oh i never saw that post about the elemental personality, i kinda don't agree on the Hali one. Hes more serius than angery (which can be taken as anger when around someone who is unserious *cough Taufan)
Solar being bijaksana lucu amet, because so far we have not been shown that at all. Hes more confident (tapi sayangnya confidence dia tampak arrogance)
Oh oh you're right anon!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No wonder why he's the frontman of the group. Always ready whenever Boboiboy need to use him. He's that serious to not giving up!
He's Fast!
and... Furious!
.
.
.
Tumblr media
Ehem.
.
Even though, he upgraded from Petir to Halilintar through anger due to The balloon Incident(Having Globophobia is no joke when you born with sensitive ears like me. Except Helium Balloons. I still tolerate that one :')
So I think he is serious that slowly become furious. Different than Blaze who instantly becomes wild whenever he's attack.
He and Taufan early season is the pinnacle of what Blaze and Ice's civil war be. (I really miss their banter so much with Gempa you have no idea anon this is just like I rant about them in other post :'( )
If Solar was a real character instead of an Elemental, Boboiboy will got a double headache of how much both Solar and Fang will bully his exam results at school lol X'D
Solar, for me, is an embodiment of Boboiboy's inner intelligence that he wants to show he actually "learning and sharing" knowledge to other. Be the only problem solver guy in group so he may think people depend on him. I can see why he's got a sassy arrogant nerd. Totally different from what I thought at first. Not a good move but hey, It's honestly entertaining tbf! Monsta knew how to write this trait right! 😅
Also.
Tumblr media
Is this yours too, anon? If so, you're not alone. I too already inject my rants & heavy thoughts about elementals in my draft. Just you wait I finished it up sooner...later.

School Zone/「スクールゾーン」
🌸9/10🌸 (HIATUS)
Tumblr media
A quirky yuri comedy about the chaotic daily life of high school girls! Yokoe and Sugiura have been together forever, and they've mastered the art of making trouble when life's a bore. High school might be a drag, but these girls in love know just how to inject a little chaos and comedy into their sloppy school life.
(Seven Seas Entertainment)
*occasionally listed as ‘School Zone Girls’
I fuckin LOVED school zone, man. There isn't a single character in it that isn't eeping out of their minds at all times. It throws almost all normal shonen/male-targeted troupes off of their kilter and is incredibly refreshing to read. One of its best qualities is its ability to maintain its identity outside of being a queer story- providing commentary on a wide range of topics relevant to high school, youth, etc. I can't really describe the effect of finally being able to read girls just being fucking stupid- other than saying its like running your brain under cold tap water, if your brain was a lesbian yuri enthusiast with a perpetual craving for full-cream milk. As silly as it may be, I actually genuinely enjoy its approach to w/w and adolescent relationship. 2 out of the 3 arguable 'main' three couples have one partner that is gender nonconforming/visibly queer, a rarity for contemporary yuri as a lot of works- to no fault of their own- fall into pitfalls of exclusively drawing hyper-feminine women to try present itself more believably or because it has no other way of proving to you that the characters are girls. The negative of this being that ostracises an entire group of people within the real-life lesbian community and disregards the instrumental role of butch lesbians in queer history by refusing them representation in a genre for them. Despite how I phrase this, though, I'm not exactly trying to present School Zone as a Magnum Opus or the pinnacle of political-correctness and singlehandedly defeating lesbophobia worldwide (which it did); I just cannot stress how badly we need diverse gender representation in yuri.
The main two girls are both fucking hilarious and strangely adorable in their own way (aside from being every gay couple to ever™). Their dynamic mostly consists of Yokoe being a combination of stupid, evil, and helplessly down bad and Kei being a single thread away from pulling a glock on her. If that can’t convince you to give szg a shot you’re a lost cause + I’m unplugging your life support. Anyways, they’re only one of the 3(ish) main pairings in the manga; but that’s where we get to the difficult part to talk about. Touched on some-what briefly, but too often to be able to ignore (iirc they have a handful of dedicated chapters), is Tsubaki’s incestuous crush on her sister Hiiragi. It’s kind of unfortunate this is in here and it sucks for me to have to mention but In this specific case I do think it’s worth overlooking for *so* many reasons. At its’ core their relationship is mostly focused on teenage adolescence and navigating complex familial relationships whilst still trying to grow up and find yourself. In isolation both Tsubaki and Hiiragi are very well written characters; on par with the rest of the cast and really are both very likeable. It’s when their relationship with eachother gets played up for fanservice is when they start to shit on your salad. Still, though, the author pretty clearly has no intention of actually writing them ending up together/Hiiragi reciprocating. So it’s highly likely Tsubaki’s character arc will lead her to move on, especially considering how she’s developed thus far. Last Couple worth discussing seriously is Fuji and Kishiya-san. While I was reading I was under the impression that Fuji + rest were high-school aged and Kishiya was in her first year at uni, but the only source I can find that lists their age says that Kishiya is a first-year high school student; which must make everybody else be in secondary school. Either way though, the age gap between them remains roughly the same and doesn’t really change my hot take on these two. Out of the entire cast Fuji is definitely the truest depiction of the experience of growing up sapphic, unknowingly. She is also my favourite :-). It was also refreshing to read about a girl who hasn’t figured it all out and is just kind of weird and off putting instead of elegant and tragic like the atmosphere of traditional yuri + made me feel weirdly heard? Call me biased, or a victim of grooming ALL you want but looking up to someone maturer, more in control, someone who feels above it all is someone you tend to gravitate towards when you’ve felt helpless and inept at understanding yourself your entire life. Much like Tsubaki and Hiiragi, Kishiya-san has yet to show any indication of reciprocating or even knowing of Fuji’s feelings and is what I think a genuinely positive influence on her. I can also imagine Kishiya-san fighting on the mental FRONTLINES to stay as patient and kind to Fuji as she is, aswell as taking the time to talk to her and treating her like a friend. Everyone please take a moment to acknowledge her service in the troubled youth industry.
There’s also Yatsude and Kaname but they’re pretty interesting so I’ll let you develop your thoughts independently on those two. They also have ZERO buisness being the most beautiful fucking women alive. The things I’d let Kaname do to me are to be repented for.

AvA Fandom - Get to Know You Meme Thing
Favourite character: My fave character is King; dad-shaped former villains are my jam.
Favourite relationship (platonic or romantic)?: Chodarking, I feel like King balances out Chosen and Dark and makes a good middle ground for them.
Favourite episode: The King. No surprises here, I’m sure. I really do think this episode is the pinnacle of Alan and his team’s work so far and it will be very difficult to top.
Favourite actual short: I said it was “Cherry Blossoms” but now I’m not so sure it’s not “Corn Dog Guy”.
Something you’d like to see in the series: King again. Lol, aside from that I am both hoping for and dreading more world building and exploration as to how the world works.
Any interesting headcanons: I am absolutely a believer that fighting is natural to most stick figures and fighting tournaments are a pretty regular form of entertainment.
Any OCs (Original Characters): Mint and Royal, two kids designed by Dark, both generally considered failures: neither exhibited the powers Dark designed for them, though it turned out that Royal was a late bloomer who came into his powers after Dark abandoned him and Mint had one power - they are unkillable.
Aqua, a childhood friend of Gold’s, a normal stick with a normal life. Works in a convenience store. Very kind and the voice of reason in her friend group - most of the time anyway. May or may not have been dating Gold before he died.
Any AUs (Alternate Universes): Gosh, so many. Not gonna list ‘em all, but here is the first one that came to mind: Hermit!King, in which Gold is the equivalent of a Minecraft YouTuber whose world gets corrupted on stream with King present and playing with him. Gold disappears, King is damaged and goes into Minecraft to find his son.
Something I forgot that you might want to talk about: I forgor…
And the blank template!

while i usually keep this blog focused on art and bugs, movies are my third big passion, and since i don't believe in streaming services i don't have a spotify wrapped for 2022 to show off but i do have a letterboxd account so i felt like going through my 2022 movie watching stats. this post is basically for me alone and will be obnoxiously long so i'll put in a read more thing here out of courtesy:
Tumblr media
ooh so close to almost 1000 hours of movies! still 718 films is pretty good, though that does also include around 80 or so shorts, mostly animations, that i also logged.
Tumblr media
i was averaging around 2 movies per day for the year. being 500 miles away from all your friends, family, and partner does give you a lot of free time it turns out. the most movies i watched in a single week, december 10-16, was 28. the weeks i only watched a couple things were either when i was visiting my partner or too depressed to even watch movies
Tumblr media
one of the things i've done this year to keep myself sane in isolation was to stream movies for friends. however since i have multiple non-overlapping friend groups, there were a number of movies i watched multiple times because i have a deep psychological and emotional need to share weird shit with the people i care about. NOVA SEED, FANTASY MISSION FORCE, and BUDDHA'S PALM were the triple crown winners this year.
Tumblr media
i only watched 7 movies that came out in 2022. my sweet spot is genre movies made from the late 70s through the mid-90s which you can see clearly if you look at my lifetime stats. predictably, i have very strong opinions about practical effects and stunts and film stock
my ratings spread for 2022 is about what it normally is for other years with a lot of things ending up in the 3.5-4 star range. maybe i'm just generous with my stars or maybe i just like what i like and try to not watch things i won't like unless they're bad in a fun way but i really feel like i've been moving away from the whole so-bad-its-good thing over the years and focusing on things that i unironically like--though these are often films that other people do categorize as bad or so-bad-its-good.
Tumblr media
my most watched actors is a bunch of golden age hong kong dudes because i went super hard on the kung fu and wuxia films this year. like about half of these are big name stars and the other half are less well-known character actors that still are in like 200 movies playing assorted emperors and evil administrators. really glad to see my main man lo lieh running away with first place. he's most well known for playing evil white-haired kung fu masters usually named pai mei or variations of that, but he's also played the protagonist or antihero of a number of great films like FIVE FINGERS OF DEATH or THE FUGITIVE (1972, not the harrison ford one). my favorite role of his is without question Bi Gu of East Island the rascally kung fu wizard who hollers his name from offscreen before every time he enters a scene in BUDDHA'S PALM (1982).
also very pleased to see one of my favorite american character actors, brion james squeaking his way onto the list, though sad that he got separated from his best friend and frequent collaborator tim thomerson, who i think is just below the cut here.
Tumblr media
most watched directors. i've been a huge fan of the very recently deceased albert pyun for years now, largely on the strength of his absolute god-tier masterpiece NEMESIS (1992) though he has a number of other very entertaining movies (RADIOACTIVE DREAMS, CYBORG) and also a cavalcade of very bad movies that are nonetheless all fascinating in their own ways. i could go on about him at length but this post is long enough. maybe another time.
other than that, chor yuen (THE MAGIC BLADE, DESCENDANT OF THE SUN) and chang cheh (CRIPPLED AVENGERS, FIVE ELEMENT NINJAS) are gods of early wuxia cinema and fucking rule, and keita amemiya's 90s work (ZEIRAM, MECHANICAL VIOLATOR HAKAIDER, CYBER NINJA) are pinnacles of kickass japanese practical effects work.
i also watched a lot of russ meyer and john waters films because i'm a pevert.
Tumblr media
this is mostly just a reminder to check out my WUXIA WIZARD WARS tumblr post and letterboxd list if you like movies about wizards shooting lasers at each other and summoning fucked up monsters and shit like that
Tumblr media
finally, because i have a brain disease, i made a list of the 100 best films i watched this year, mostly first-time watches but probably like 15-20 rewatches that i especially enjoyed or think more people should know about or give another shot. if i didn't already have way too many projects i'd consider setting up another sideblog just going through all these one by one with reviews and screenshots but that's a lot of work and i am a tired old man. i might give an occasional highlight post like i did for THE BARON AGAINST THE DEMONS
and i guess that's about it? this has been an especially heavy year for golden age hong kong kung fu and wuxia films but i explored a lot of other interesting places and times and genres and microgenres and have a lot more i plan on checking out next year. i've got stacks and stacks of unwatched japanese V-cinema and pinku violence and kaiju and tokusatsu films; tons of giallo and hammer horror and eurotrash lesbian vampire flicks; classic westerns, revisionist westerns, spaghetti westerns; SOV horror, eastern european stop motion, hong kong CAT III sleaze, russian postapocalyptic dirges, poliziotteschi, krimi, and noir films; AIP and PM Entertainment action schlock; italian mad max ripoffs, italian alien ripoffs, italian conan ripoffs; approximately 300 movies with NINJA, BLOOD, or SHAOLIN in their titles; and probably some other shit too.
finally, if you've made it this far and you're a nasty little film freak like me i'll let you in on a secret: i have copies of every single one of these movies on my hard drive. literally thousands of movies dug out of dozens of digital dumpsters with my own two greasy grabby raccoon paws. if any of them particularly catch your interest but you can't find a copy, well you can maybe slip old professor bfly a little private request and get yourself a copy of whatever you need. it may take some time since i only have so many google drive accounts unless someone wants to subsidize a deluxe mega.nz subscription for me to mass-upload things to. i also have a soulseek account sharing the entire hoard but it's very slow and not always online but you can DM me for that as well. again though you may have to be patient because i am old and tired and slow and have a full time job and a hundred dumb hobbies and social anxiety and generalized brain damage
happy new year everyone now go watch a movie about some dudes kicking the shit out of each other for me

New Release Deadlands The Weird West: Showdown at Sundown Adventure Pinnacle Entertainment Group
Something Wicked is Going Down in Sundown! The town of Sundown is a lot like many others on the frontier. It's a boomtown struggling with growing into an actual part of civilization. But look a little closer at Sundown and you'll see something deeper and darker in the shadows of the Weird West.

Hey there! I'd love to get your thoughts on something. I saw a promo this morning on NBC for Jungkook’s upcoming Today show performance, and the language has been on my mind all day. He was described as: “The breakout star of BTS!”
When he appeared on Good Morning America and the Global Citizens Festival just a few months ago, they called him, “BTS’s Jungkook” or “From BTS, Jungkook.” I feel like there’s a lot of mileage between these designations and hyping him as “the breakout star of BTS.”
Why? Because American culture glorifies individual success. Whether it’s in business or sports or entertainment or politics, we give lip service to the notion of teamwork, but real adulation is for the people we can label mavericks, trailblazers, or…breakout stars. Within this mindset, there’s very little room left over to admire group achievement. The pinnacle of superstardom is reserved for those who are exceptional enough to stand out *from* the group, not be part of it.
So, I’m rewinding to a few months ago to imagine what my all-American Muggle-mind would have made of a promotion for “the breakout star of BTS.” To be honest, I would’ve assumed that one of BTS’s members had left the group because he had surpassed them. There are potentially millions of non-ARMY American customers, like that Muggle-me, to whom Jungkook could be marketed as *the* star---singular---who broke out of that boy-band.
Now, I’m in no way suggesting that Jungkook himself believes this. I have a lot of faith in him, in the dedication he has to the members and their work as a group, and in the sheer power of BTS when they are all together. I'm sure their comeback in 2025 will be astonishing (to quote Suga on Suchwita, “we’ll devour the world.”).
But that’s two years away, and I can feel this narrative building (in the U.S., at least) that Jungkook is the *real* star, and BTS? Well, that’s just part of his past. I hope I’m wrong about that, because as much as I think Jungkook deserves his own success, I don't really want to see BTS getting demoted in the popular imagination to "the band that launched Jungkook."
What do you think? Am I cynically jumping the gun? Overreacting? Talking out of my ass?
--A Muggle
Hi! So nice to hear from you again!!
Americans are so consistent. "The next BTS", "The breakout star in BTS" blah blah. Of course, from their perspective, Jungkook is clearly the breakout star. But that's because he's targeting their market and making pop music. They don't get that the other members are interested in exploring other genres or even other markets. The most famous member in the US is the "breakout" member, nevermind that the others are successful in their respective fields as well. In their mind there has to be a breakout star, and I can't blame them entirely because that is how we all think. We assume that lesser famous artists are unsuccessful, when they might actually be successful in a different market. And in the case of some groups that disband, some members simply don't want fame anymore, yet the member who goes down the pop route and is successful is seen as the only successful one, like the others failed to make it.
And you're right that after Seven there could be a small shift from "the famous maknae from BTS" to "the member that is outdoing BTS" - though that's not true. What you said about America is true. Solo pop stars are much more marketable and respected. Jungkook being a boy group member actually doesn't do him any favors in the sense that, to someone who doesn't know BTS, the boy group label isn't an appealing one.
I agree that people who aren't aware of how massive BTS are might consider him somehow above BTS, because being a breakout star does imply, well, breaking out of the group, but Western media do know BTS. They know the group is huge, that the fans are insanely powerful and those fans are very vocal about loving the other members too. So far Jungkook's success seems to be taken as an extension of BTS's, as proof of BTS's strength, which it is. There isn't a single interview, including the recent one with Jimmy Fallon, in which BTS aren't mentioned, because BTS is bigger and mentioning BTS makes Armys happy and creates engagement. In fact, sometimes they mention BTS too much, but now that Jungkook is sort of standing on his own two feet, there is less of a focus on the group.
Anyway, Jungkook will enlist soon so I don't think there will even be enough time for him to establish himself and build that kind of reputation to separate him from BTS. Jungkook introduces himself as Jungkook of BTS and his fans are Army - as in, BTS's Army - so, in my opinion, what you're saying won't happen. You might see an article or two about it, but people know Jungkook's power and fandom are also BTS's power and fandom. I can't even imagine a scenario in which BTS and just "that band Jungkook is from". At least in kpop it didn't happen with Big Bang, Girls Generation, SHINee, 2EN1, or other groups with famous soloists, and the US might be different, but The Beatles are still The fucking Beatles and not that band that launched John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and One Direction, despite Harry Styles's success and being kind of disbanded, still has a strong group fandom.
So, yeah, BTS are solid imo. Jungkook would need a real solo career, with multiple comebacks and bigger promotion, to be any kind of "threat" to BTS's image. But I can't promise you won't see a few tasteless articles about it.
I'm not great at predicting popular opinion and what the media will do, though, so my opinion may not amount to much.
Thanks for the ask!! Stay in touch, ok?

Reprisal | Chapter Seventeen
coriolanus snow x gaul oc
Summary: Ten years after the Tenth Hunger Games, Coriolanus Snow is under Dr. Volumnia Gaul’s wing as a Gamemaker alongside her niece. Unbeknownst to either of them, they’re both being prepared for a much greater task.
Warning: This story will contain explicit violence against adults and children alike (I mean, it’s Dr. Gaul AND Snow) as well as explicit language, and sexual situations.
***This fic is in no way, shape, or form, me endorsing or co-signing the horrific shit Snow does, nor am I trying to romanticize it. Also, apathy and will be the main driving force of any remnants of a relationship between my OC and Snow’s character. So if you’re interested in something very romantic and fluffy…it’s not gonna be this.
Thank you for reading, I hope you like it!

Tawny’s not entirely sure how exactly it all ensued.
One moment she was trailing after Pias who charged toward Coriolanus with a balled up fist and a twisted mouth, bitterly spewing venom at the young man for embarrassing him so richly in front of the entire nation whilst Albus and Philo attempted to keep the two men separated from one another.
Snow hadn’t entertained an altercation until—
“Oh, my!” A harsh gasp is let out by Tigris as everyone falls silent for a split second, not a sound made other than Livia’s silent crying as she struggles to catch her breath from the shock, blood pouring down her chin, face nearly turning blue as she sobs without sound.
Tawny's lover's knuckles are adorned in the crimson liquid as the shock falls over his face.
The reality settling in.
Pias Pinnacle just punched Livia Snow so hard it threw her to the ground and knocked some of her teeth out.
The next blink of Tawny’s eyes brings chaos into the quiet, a rush of people to check on Livia, a rush of people to get the two men apart as Snow lunges for him.
       TWO HOURS EARLIER
His eyes crawl up her legs exposed by the tasteful cut of Panem-red fur ending just below her knees, matching the fur trim of the same color that wraps each wrist and her exposed shoulders — the deep color of it a sharp contrast to the snow-white of the rest of the dress.
Even when her smooth skin turns to the fitted fabric, he still traces every curve with his icy stare, knowing what each and every inch of her looks like under the exuberant outfit.
And he does so knowing that she takes notice of it.
He sees her try to hide a smile when her eyes meet his, staying with the group around her of Pias’ posse while he’s in his own as well, consisting of Philo, Cyrus, and Tigris.
“Gentlemen,” A sound engineer that had arrived with Lucky Flickerman approaches between the two separate small crowds, catching Pias and Coriolanus’ attention, “These are going to be on in case the stage mics malfunction.”
He starts with Pias, putting the small box into his pocket, taking careful measures not to mess up his suit as he gets the mic pinned.
Going to Snow, next, Pias follows him, Tawny’s brown eyes widening before following after him, not knowing what he’s going to say.
Philo, Tigris, and Cyrus give Snow a moment as his opponent approaches him, the three of them offering Tawny warm smiles before speaking amongst themselves.
“Mr. Snow,” Pinnacle extends his hand cordially.
Snow glares down at his hand, the sound engineer tensing and trying to hurry.
“Pinnacle.” Coriolanus states passively, not even bothering to throw, “Dr.,” into the mix — still relentlessly pissed off that he had voted against his and Tawny’s subject to be featured in the Games.
Still pissed that he’s now gotten Tawny right where he wants her.
Still pissed that Tawny has let him.
Pias rolls his jaw and retracts his unshaken hand, stating, “I just want you to know, that whatever happens on that stage tonight, you still have my utmost respect.”
Snow glances at Tawny before flickering his blue hues back to Pias.
“I can’t maintain something I never had to begin with, now can I?” He asks, raising his brows.
Pias rolls his jaw, slowly smirking.
“Despite our past differences, I believe so long as either of us become President, Panem will be in safe hands.”
“I believe if one needs something done right , one must do it themselves .” Snow retorts dismissively, causing Pias’ tight smile to falter lightly.
There is no one else that could secure Panem the way Coriolanus Snow would want it secured, other than the man himself.
Pias stares at him a moment before gritting out, “You have fun out there tonight, kid,” meaning it as belittling and degrading as he can, and Snow knows it.
“Worry not, Pinnacle. I intend to.” Coriolanus assures him flatly as the man turns to go.
“I will be there in just a moment, darling.” Tawny says to her husband, softly, his eyes glaring at Snow before he’s kissing her cheek.
She clears her throat as she turns back to her old lover.
“Hi.” She says softly, her hands clasped together to keep from ringing to calm her nerves.
He ignores Pias’ attention as he looks at his fiancée speaking to his opponent.
“Hi.” Snow says to her in the same tone, before adding, “Did you skin that yourself?” Picking at her for her fur, to which she shoves at his arm, biting out an irritated, “Shut up,” before he replies, “Awful brave of you to talk to me so openly.”
Tawny looks back over her shoulder to glance at her fiancé, her pinned up hair allowing her neck to remain exposed, the flesh glistening with whatever moisturizer she had used earlier, tempting Snow’s hand to wrap about the plush skin.
“He’s far less dramatic than Dyess.” She assures him with a sigh, offering a small smile to Pias, who returns it to her. “He doesn’t take issue with me conversing with other men.”
“I’m not just other men, though, am I?” He asks in a near whisper.
She doesn’t know if he’s referring to himself being Pias’ opponent, or the man she cheated on her last husband with. . .
“You were my friend long before you were his political competitor. He knows that.” She retorts innocently.
“Is that what we are?” It slips from him, knowingly. “ Friends ?”
“We can be so long as you’re done behaving like a child and not speaking to me.”
“I’ve spent more years of my life than not, being compared to that of a child.” He informs her, lightly irritated with her words.
She lets out a breath, guilt settling in her at his words.
It was a burden on him, she supposes, to accomplish so much so young, to outdo veterans of their professional field before even reaching the age of thirty, only to be dismissed as too green to comprehend the weight that he had been helping to carry since he’d been fresh out of the Academy.
The cheap shots taken at him politically had centered around his age.
“You’re not a child, Snow.” She says, next. “Though I do wish we got to speak to one another more. . .”
She wants to tell him she’s missed him, but she can’t find a way to say it without sounding too needy. . .too willing to once more roll around in the horrendously cruel infidelity they’ve already put Livia and Dyess through.
“I haven’t had time to speak to anyone I don’t live with or work with.” He explains to her.
“Hmm.” Tawny hums with a little nod and closed mouth smile before it falls and leaves her looking around. “Is Livia alright? I didn’t think she’d miss this for the world.” She says next, in search of his wife while he absorbs how breathtaking she is without the focus of her attention catching him.
“She got sick before we left. She’ll be here later in the night.” He replies coolly. “You should know she of all people wouldn’t miss seeing me get to tear into the competition for all the jewels in Panem.”
It works, a small chuckle leaving her from his words.
Before she knows it, the palm of her hand is resting against his as he examines her engagement ring, letting out a quiet whistle.
“32 Carats.” She informs him with a sigh.
“I wouldn’t expect any less for you.” He scoffs.
Her hand lingers in his, savoring the feeling of his touch, wishing he could explore far more than just her hand with his fingers.
An aching stir strikes between her legs, picturing herself sprawled out for him, soaking the both of them as he forces another orgasm from her with those fingers roughly moving inside of her.
He catches her eyeing his fingers and he has to pull from her, swiftly stating, “You look lovely tonight,” having to change the subject due to the discomfort beginning to settle inside of him, trying to remain professional and keep up appearances whilst imagining bending her over in front of her fiance – his opponent – to prove that running a country isn’t the only thing he far exceeds him in.
“Thank you.” She tucks her arms behind her back, blushing, looking over the crisp white of his own suit paired with a lush rose pinned to him, its crimson color flourishing.
If anyone didn’t know any better, they’d think the two were an item and deliberately matched one another’s attire.
She doesn’t have to assure him he looks nice, as well.
He can tell by the way she’s looking at him that he looks more than good enough.
“Darling,” Pias is stating in a moment’s time.
She hesitates for a split second, long enough not for Pias to notice, but Snow does, Tawny looking at him as if waiting for him to dismiss her before she can run back to her fiancé.
At first he believes Tawny hadn’t heard Pias, until Pias repeats, “Tawny,” and her gaze remains on Snow.
What has gotten into her ? Snow asks himself, confused and taken off-guard by her new found interest in him.
The last time they spoke she was refuting him, now she’s blatantly ignoring her future husband just to keep talking to him.
“Go,” He nudges her, motioning to her fiancé.
It’s now that she pretends she’s just now realizing he had been trying to call her over.
“Oh!” She pipes, walking away with a quick Look over her shoulder at him. “I’m sorry,” she says, next, kissing Pias’ cheek as he wraps his arm around her shoulders, continuing on his conversation with someone Tawny had never met, nor cared enough to meet while her eyes lingered on the man several feet away, looking at him as he greets his own wife with a kiss when she arrives just in time.
Within the hour Tawny’s eyes are glued to the screen backstage, tucked away into the room they offered to Pias upon arrival.
She’s alone, whereas she’s certain that Coriolanus’ room is filled to the brim.
The applause settles after the two men are introduced, Lucky Flickerman shuffling his questions as he pipes, “Some months ago, we started this race to the most crucial position in Panem. Many have fallen to the wayside, overwhelmed with the impending obligation of Presidency, leaving only two remaining: Pias Pinnacle — ”
He’s cut short with applause that he has to speak loudly over as he adds, “ — and Coriolanus Snow.”
Again, another yell of applause.
“Both of whom are here tonight with the intention of proving their competence to guide the great nation of Panem, and hold themselves in the same manner as our late, beloved, former leader, President Ravinstill had before them.” He pauses once more for dramatic effect. “I ask that you hold your applause between answers to better ensure our understanding, and optimize our ability to hear.” A small wave of chuckles roll through the crowd. “However, you may exude all applause, fainting, and awe as I introduce our candidates:  Dr. Pias Pinnacle and Mr. Coriolanus Snow.”
Everyone is to their feet, applauding, whistling, as Pias and Coriolanus step onto the stage, waving politely to the crowd as they approach their podiums.
Tawny watches nervously, fumbling with her ring as her brown eyes stay glued to the TV.
“Alright, gentlemen, let the record show that these questions are my own, and I have not shared any of the following questions with either of you or anyone else. You will be given one minute to answer a question. Keep interruptions to a minimum.”
The two of them offer a nod before Lucky starts once more, “Mr. Snow, with the most recent and jarring attack on the Capitol in the form of the assassination of our beloved President Ravinstill, how is it that you intend to further secure and protect the Capitol and its citizens from particularly radicalized individuals?”
Her stomach turns as he takes in a breath, and as soon as he opens his mouth to answer, she’s standing up, leaving the room to pace outside to spare herself the nervousness that threatens to devour her.
She sees Philo standing out in the hallway, too, leaning against the wall as Coriolanus’ voice echoes throughout, though his words sound more like background noise with the bustle of backstage.
“Dr. Gaul.” He greets her politely, to which she replies, “How are you, Mr. Marius?”
“As well as I can be while avoiding potential second-hand humiliation.” He nods in the vague direction of the stage.
“Oh, please, Coriolanus won’t embarrass himself.” She assures him, certain of it, only for him to chuckle.
“No, no, not from him.” He knows very well Snow had been prepared for this back and forth for weeks – years even, if you’d count the endless hours spent in meetings, arguing his points with a confident politically correctness that border-lined outright blunt at times. “Do you not agree?” He adds, raising his brows, curious of her answer given her recent interaction with her own fiance’s competition.
“I’ll not incriminate myself by even entertaining such discussion.” She states, accepting a cigarette when he holds one out to her. “Are we allowed to smoke here?” Tawny asks, next, glancing around for any signs stating different.
“As if either of us cannot afford a fine for it.” He chuckles.
She looks at him, amused and impressed, as if seeing his confidence fully for the first time.
The meek man squeaking behind Coriolanus was gone.
“You’ve changed since being Snow’s lackey.” She informs him, allowing him to light her cigarette.
“He told me if he wanted a scared puppy following him around, he’d go to the kennels.” He informs her. “What about you and Pias? Any wedding planning being done?”
“No. I had to force my parents to stay home tonight because I knew my mother would be hounding me about what kind of flowers I want, or if I want beef, or pork, or fish, or chicken.”
He gives her a sad smile and doesn’t even try to hide it.
“Poor Tawny Gaul, it’s so hard being rich, engaged to someone even richer, having to plan out the richest wedding. How awful.” She makes fun of how she sounds, but her tone, her shaky voice, gives way to all he needs to know before he states, “You looked so happy in those photos," referring to the images of her engagement in the papers.
“I was for a few days.” She says, swallowing thickly, flicking ash as Livia Snow opens the door of their room and steps out alongside Tigris, walking down the hall – more than likely to go to the ladies room.
Tawny’s brown eyes stare at the back of Mrs. Snow’s head as she states, “I find it difficult to stay truly happy anymore, Philo. Not since my daughter. But there have been times since then that I am happy – fleeting moments – times that are so few and far between I don’t even realize I’m happy in them until they’re gone.”
He knows what she means, following her gaze to meet the back of Livia.
Neither of them speak again, but the the door of Snow’s room snaps open and Philo’s husband is quietly shouting, “Get in here!” motioning quickly.
Tawny absentmindedly follows after him, their eyes immediately seeking the screen out just in time to catch Pias saying, “. . . I admire and respect Mr. Snow’s mind. He is correct when he says his ideas that have been implemented into our systems already have greatly improved, not just the Hunger Games, but have stimulated the economy, woven out rebels, and innovated our War Department. . .but I can’t help but wonder if those ideas, those bills, those laws, were dreamt up solely for the benefit of Panem, or as a means of personal gain.”
Tawny’s brows furrow as Pias throws his first fistful of mud.
“With the benefit of Panem as a mere side-effect of that gain.” Pinnacle continues. “Yes, he holds this impressive record, but promotions and accolades mean so little when one’s priority isn’t to act solely on behalf of the precious people of Panem –”
“ – Every promotion and accolade I’ve earned was awarded to me because my sole priority has been bettering our country, Dr. Pinn—”
“ — Mr. Snow, I believe I have another minute — ” Pias states as Lucky replies, “that would be correct,” but is too engulfed in Coriolanus finishing with, “and questioning whether I’ve deserved those awards or to be recognized for my contributions puts into question the ethics of our own government officials who have bestowed those honors upon me.”
“Mr. Snow, I did not question whether or not you deserve your recognition. I questioned whether you’ve done your good work for Panem selflessly, because if not, you’ve no business being at the forefront of the nation.”
“Oh, shit.” Cyrus mumbles, stressed with the back and forth.
“I’m already at the forefront or else I wouldn’t be up here on this stage with you.” Coriolanus states to him.
“To answer the second part of your question, Mr. Flickerman, I have  – unfortunately – had to see firsthand the grotesque yet eye-opening realities of war. I’ve had to sacrifice my physical and mental wellbeing to protect the people in my unit, to protect my family, to protect the citizens of the Capitol. And as somber and heart wrenching as it was, it has helped me enormously understand how to avoid being put in a position of that magnitude again, but also how to prepare for it properly in case it ever does happen, again.” Pias says, confidently. “Mr. Snow has not  dodged bullets, slept in mud, nor seen his fellow brothers through years of war. I believe he knows very little about securing the Captitol’s safety because he’s had the privilege of never knowing life without it – not as intimately as I have had to, myself . He simply cannot comprehend the cost of war and therefor lacks experience and knowledge of how to avoid such extremities.”
Tawny feels her heart sink into her chest, a quiet, “What are you doing?” leaving her lips as if her fiance can actually hear her.
“Does he not realize he, too, lived through the war here?” Cyrus hisses. “Dodging bombs, rabies, starvation . . . he's not that young.”
The camera focuses on Coriolanus who keeps his composure too well, looking as if he’s already won the debate.
Tawny glances at Philo who looks just as confident and relieved despite Coriolanus not even replying quite yet.
When Lucky offers him a one minute rebuttal period, Snow calmly accepts it before taking a drink of his water and holding back a smile fueled by righteous fury at Pias’ ignorant words.
It’s then that she looks once more at Philo and realizes they anticipated something like this, and her fiance simply took the bait.
Her stomach nervously flips as Coriolanus clears his throat and opens his mouth to speak, burying Dr. Pias Pinnacle in doing so.

[ GUIDE ]:          in the process of guiding the receiver through a crowded place, the sender’s hand protectively grazes against the small of their back
(send this but tbh I wouldn't be mad if you chose to answer another BC they're all so good)
Deafening cheers echoed off stone walls, reverberating in her chest as she found herself swept up in a bustling crowd of spectators. All of whom were confined to one of few Colosseum entrances designated for those of higher class. She could only recall one other instance she ever attended an event, solely at the behest of her uncle when she first arrived in Rome. He had insisted it was a ‘pinnacle of entertainment’ and ‘necessary experience’ for all who entered the capital. Within viewing one event she grew to understand the latter sentiment although she silently disagreed with the former. In the months since she had never found a reason to visit again until Titus had invited her to come with Auriela and Caius. Initially she intended to decline, but Titus’ zeal soon wore down easily enough.
Tumblr media
The four had arrived together, Auriela and Titus focused on navigating the crowd while Caius chatted to her on potential things to expect. Caius had noticed her initial apprehension and seemed set on making her comfortable, something she appreciated in spite of assuring him she would be fine. It wasn’t as though she felt ill after her last experience, she had merely accepted it was not in line with her personal preferences. A belief which was temporarily cemented when a shift in the crowd and small misstep left her caught in a separate current of patrons. With every turn of her head she spotted familiar faces littering the crowd, but none of whom she arrived with. “Oh no, no, no.” Pressing up her tiptoes offered no help, any memories of the layout coming up short.
Another peek around was no different, her attention passing over Commodus’ approaching form before snapping back. Had she informed him she was attending today? No, it had completely slipped her mind. Shifting on her heels she made a subtle attempt to slip in with another group only to falter once she felt his presence. A single glance was all it took for her to silently fall in line with his steps. While passersby avoided his path, most barely noticed her until it was too late, not to say she minded- still focused on locating her friends.
In the distance she finally managed to spot a concerned Caius and amused Auriela at his side. Perking up she waved a hand in hopes of catching their attention, fixing to step away when she felt Commodus’ touch brush against her dress. Just as she locked eyes with Auriela her breath hitched, a pink flush staining her skin. Auriela raised a brow in silent question, one which was answered the moment she realized who Marinette was with. Caius spotted her as well though Marinette could not make sense of his expression, only able to watch as Auriela gave him a shoulder pat and walked away with Titus in tow.

Listen I just have to say it, there’s a very fine line between being Dead Dove for the specific sociological purpose of denouncing a system and just wanting to make place for a self pleasuring piece of misogynistic and consumable content that is wrongfully tagged as “alternative”
And I’m shooting myself on the foot here but I SERIOUSLY hope that the same people that preach so much about feminism on online spaces do not advocate for what can even merely hope to be a piece of grass root activism as a Trojan horse.
I’m all the more disgusted by the fact that it doesn’t even come from a place that pertains to the actual oppressed narrative, it so disgustingly twists the narrative of a reality that thousands of women in the entertainment industry go through and solely focuses on the pleasure that men get from it. IT adds literally nothing to the reality of the problem and quite the contrary, it even goes as far as fetishising it.
I’m really sick to my stomach knowing just how evil marketed and produced this is. It truly is the pinnacle of a misogynistic attack for the thousands, and to even come to think the absolute reach within a female lower age group it will have- no words really.
I might actually put out an academic essay on this.
