the story of OST wasn't based on much of anything. I got inspired by Island Living when the EP was released to do a story in Sulani with mermaids, and naturally, every mermaid needs a pirate. I repurposed older sims (who were going to be part of a different sim story based on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) into Naida and Ven and thus On Sunlit Tides was born. The name being wordplay of PotC: On Stranger Tides and the Sims 3 island world Sunlit Tides.

Ven's character is an amalgamation, but he is primarily based on Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. There's a line in the anime where Spike mentions that one eye can only see the past. Whether this is actually literal or simply metaphorical isn't made clear to viewers, but I was always struck by it, and thought the mechanism was particularly fascinating for a character to actually suffer constantly see the world through two entirely different lenses simultaneously. Ven also has many of Spike's lackadaisical mannerisms, while also having a similar backstory. In Spike's case, he's ex-yakuza, in Ven's, it's ex-military. Emrys is Ven's equivalent of Vicious; a partner/brother-figure from his past he now deeply despises and knows he will have to inevitably face. The two characters follow similar paths and have nearly paralleled resolutions, as well as other minor commonalities such as personal philosophies, aliases, etc.

To a lesser extent, Ven also incorporates certain elements of both Jack Sparrow and Howl, with the scene where Naida first uses her magic being directly influenced by the Howl/Sophie hair color changing scene. The overall OST aesthetic (quite obviously) borrows heavily from Pirates of the Caribbean (with Artrice being my interpretation of Tia Dalma) and League of Legend's Bilgewater. Naida has less tangible inspirations, though her magic and overall connection to the moon (as well as aspects of her appearance) were influence by Yue from ATLA.

My main posting site is tumblr, on which I have 387 titles in my masterlists, (443 individual writing posts if seperating multi-chaptered stories).

Then i've reposted 40 of these titles on AO3 and 10 on Wattpad.*

40 fics - 518,511 words total

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I've written for MCU (actors) and co, the Irregulars, Stranger Things and One Piece (live action).

4. What are your top 5 fics?

I'm going by individual posts, not accumulated interactions through series.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I always try my best to reply as soon as possible wether its an ask, reblog or comment. (Excluding wattpad, as i see that more like people annotating their reading and generally don't want to bother them. But i do always read them and appreciate them, and if something stands out or if someone comments a lot i will respond)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ooh i once killed reader off dramatically lol ("Car Crash" blurb) but I think the general reader's concensus would be Caught Me Slippin' , which I didn't even intend to make that angsty, but people cried (allegedly). And honestly, while i apologise for the emotional damage, i do take it as the highest compliment to be able to evoke such feelings.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my stories are quite happy and i'm not sure how to rate "happiness".

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I am actually surprised how scarce the hate is, and usually in the form of anons, because I always expect people to hate me. But thats on insecurities. Honestly, writing on here has always been amazing.

9. Do you write smut?

Yes. I hate it tho 😫 like, love smut in theory and concept but it's a bitch to write.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I love a lengthy and extended au, often inspired by other works (Not Wholly Evil is basically Stranger Things x Pirates of the Caribbean) but i think the only clear "crossover" i (remember to) have written would be Murder on the Dancefloor ??? which would be a tom holland x Strictly Come Dancing crossover lmao. I do often think about tv show crossovers in concept tho, but doubt i'll write any.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yup. Shit sucks.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, but it was done without my permission and uncredited (which is still stealing!!) so that sucks.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I've dabbled in co-writing, haha, several times avtually, but for one reason or another, none of the projects were ever published. Would love to one day actually fully co-write something with someone on here.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

Ngl, i'm not sure I have one. Probably why all of my stories are 'x reader'.

15. What's a WIP that you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

At this point I think this about every single one of my WIPs and that's writer's block for ya.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmm...i'd like to think the expression of emotion, showing how characters feel. And maybe world building- or thats at least my favorite thing in AUs. Maybe also details (either motives, references or foreshadowing)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm horrible at pacing. Always feel like i go too slow with the plot and then suddenly too fast and its all a mess, especially when it comes to series. Also just general knowledge on things; i feel like i don't know enough things to write about when it comez to daily and regular life, or even how to normally interact with people so that makes things hard when trying to be realistic. I also feel like i don't know enough words??? So things get really repetitive.

Oh, and this is also an aspect of writing- i'm horrible at getting feedback in the form of proofreading. It makes me physically sick having someone go through my work like that, and I barely do it myself. Which may result in some horrible typos/mistakes. And i do apologise profusely for that. Believe me, if you caught a mistake in my fic, i still think about it to this day.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in different languages?

Its always better if the writer is familiar with the language. Things you're comfortable with writing translate over better to the reader. It's like in movies/tv, its always better when you have an actor speaking a language they actually know. And if you don't know it, 1) ask yourself why are you writing it then and then 2) better research the hell out of it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

My first fic, that has since been deleted for a long time, was on wattpad and it was for a youtuber lmao. (peak 2013/15 era, thats all i'm gonna say)

Disneyland Postcard Set - Post 1967

This is my FAVORITE piece I have because the art on the cover is so gorgeous. The lettering is beautiful the castle is especially beautiful and vibrant, the rendering is lovely, the doodles are ADORABLE. Select colorful scenes:

This is one of the photos I used to date. The Peoplemover opened in ‘67 so that’s the earliest this could be from. Based on the clothes in other photos I’d guess it’s a few years later than that maybe, just based on the amount of women wearing pants!

And here’s a shot of the original sale section of Pirates of the Caribbean ride! Captioned “Scurvy Buccaneers Ponder the Worth of a 300-Pound damsel.” If I remember right, they’ve changed this section to be ladies chasing their husbands with brooms to update it.

A Visit to Disneyland Book - 1965

Written by Mabel Watts and illustrated by Stan Tusan, this book is just adorable. (I hypothesize the previous item was illustrated by Tusan too, but it’s unmarked so I can’t be sure.) It look’s unassuming on the front of it it’s fully illustrated:

Walt Disney’s Pictorial Souvenir Book of Disneyland - 1965

VERY beautiful cover. It’s hard to see but the castle is done in a messy, almost impressionist style. Also sidenote the worst thing anyone has ever done is write dates in roman numerals. Whoever came up with that I’ll kill you again.

Naturally my favorite page spread is the It’s A Small World. Just!!! So pretty and sparkly. It was SO hard to pick which pages to show you guys because every one is really creatively laid out, with nice lettering and illustrations. on every single one!!!

This is one of the most unique illustrated park maps I’ve seen!! You can see the Mule Pack Train (exactly what it sounds like) was still running (1955-73). Other now defunct rides include the Motor Boat Cruise (1957-93) and the Skyway (1956-94).

This is the back! “Disneyland is for People!” is such a weird slogan to me. Who else would it be for??? My favorite image is the smug looking kid enjoying his drink in his Disneyland hat. I want one of those.

Disneyland Summer 1959

This was promotional material for the park! Tragically mine is pretty destroyed :(( Features lots of photos of what the attractions were in the park at the time, including information about upcoming events and guest music performances. They also include information on hotels, pet services, etc. Everything you’d need to know to go to Disneyland in 1959!

Opening spread with a beautiful watercolor painting!! The blurb boasts how Disneyland represents over $5 Million of design expertise. You can see the cover has separated. It’s a few years away from being looseleaf.

THIS!! is what I intend to heavy reference for a map of Scar’s theme park, when it’s finished. Just as complicated as it needs to be, and very nice to look at :]] These are my favorite kinds of park maps because they’re more art than map, but still very functional!

Here’s the attractions for that year, each with a cute mini illustration. This is most interesting as a study for the use of typeface, personally. AND the colors.

Tea(?) Plates - 1950s-60s

This one’s my favorite! I think I just like pink. Really lovely castle in the style of the cover of the postcard set, too. Marked made in Japan.

This one is special in that I can’t for the LIFE of me find it online ANYWHERE. It’s probably 1950s given that it’s marked made in Japan, but other than that, I can’t find it! There are ones similar, but none quite right. Potentially one of the rarest things I have.

This one’s more 60′s than the others and mine appears to be in better condition than others! Still very vibrant. One of the weirdest color palettes I’ve seen on park merch.

Review:

A stormsinger and a pirate hunter who find themselves intertwined as they face off against a deadly deathless pirate lord hell bent on finding treasure and becoming more powerful. Mary Firth is a Stormsinger, her voice has the ability to calm sails, create disasters and shatter armadas. Stormsingers are captured and used as slaves or indentured servants to pirates and Mary finds herself being auctioned off but this is only the begin of her journey as what she is truly after is finding her mother, another Stormsinger. Mary finds herself being hunted by Lirr, a deathless pirate lord who is somehow connected to both Mary and her mother. Then there is samuel Rosser, a disgraced naval officer who is also a Sooth, someone who can catch glimpses of the future and travel into the Other. In this world there are creatures known as ghistens who are made from wood and are essentially attached to ships and they protect and act as a guardian of the ship. Samuel is also hunting down Lirr, as he is commissioned to bring Lirr to justice yet the moment he meets Mary at the auction he can't seem to get her out of his head, especially because she steals his coat and his special talisman that is the only thing keeping him from slipping into madness. Soon both Mary and Samuel find themselves constantly running into one another as they both go after Lirr, deal with pirates and gun fights, betrayals, and the very complicated feelings growing between them. This is a great read for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean! Its the first book in the series and I am excited to see where the next book goes. This book was a bit slow but did pick up by the end so hopefully the next one is better, it did feel like it dragged at some moments but I did enjoy the world that was created in the stories. I am excited to see Samuel and Mary's relationship in the next book and how they grow. Overall if you are looking for a pirate book with a slow burn romance, action, betrayal, and magic then give this one a go!

*Spoilers*: Mary's mother Anne use to work with Lirr on a ship but then she got pregnant by a crew member and had Anne. Lirr has Anne and uses her as his own ship's stormsinger. Lirr himself is a deathless pirate because he is combined with a ghisten, something he tried to do to Anne but Anne instead had said ghisten (Tane) bond with Mary. Samuel is disgraced from the navy because his twin brother Benedict slept with their captain's wife (his brother has the ability to control people's minds and persuade them do things) and Samuel took the blame to save his brother, Benedict tried to do the same to Mary but she escaped in time. Lirr is killed off and Anne and Samuel decide to work together on their own ship.

Gripping, gritty, grueling ~ grabbed me immediately and wouldn’t let me go ~ perfect for YA readers who like a darker story with a happy ending.

What I liked:

* Lady Asta: Mayor of Kenshore’s daughter, pampered, privileged, home invaded, family slaughtered, taken captive, tortured, educated, learns, makes friends with Viggo and Bryn, bodyguard, romance budding at end of the book

* Viggo: bright, brawny, intelligent, strong, lethal, highly trained, good friend, leader, best friend since childhood of Bryn, lost his father when young, has two sisters and a mother he cares for, attracted to Asta

* Bryn: desires to be a doctor, mother was a healer, father a warrior, caring, compassionate, strong, wise, focused on helping others, bright, honest, trustworthy, good friend and best friend of Viggo’s since childhood

* The idea of being chosen by Dotharr and how it played into this story’s characters

* The close friendship and alliance made between Asta, Viggo, and Bryn

* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing

* That I felt a part of the story

* Getting to know more of the background of Holger and the Holgarians and how this book fits in with the others in the series

* Finding out who the evil treacherous people were supporting the mastermind and hoping they would be taken out

* The part King Torvald played, who he married, and how he grew in his role as king as the story progressed

* Wondering if there will be a book that deals with the journey Asta, Viggo, Bryn, and King Torvald are set to make at the end of the book

* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:

* Who and what I was meant not to like

* Thinking about how evil more than one in the story was and wondering how people can be as these characters were.

“Dad, are you pissed-drunk again?” you whined as you approached your father, who was sitting by the huge bonfire with the rest of his crew.

You were only 14, but your dad took you everywhere with you – maybe he wasn’t the best parent, seeing that you always ended up in serious and dangerous situations, but you certainly inherited his stupid charm to escape even the trickiest situations.

Expect nothing less from the daughter of Jack Sparrow.

“I might have had a few shots.” He swirled the half-empty bottle of rum in his hand.

You rolled your eyes and snatched it away from him, putting it behind your back in the sand. “Enough for today.”

He huffed, but didn’t argue. Everyone else was conversing merrily, but you were just staring at the fire.

“Now, now, dear, what are you worrying about? It’s written on your face.”

You looked at him a bit surprised, but he always does this – surprises you when you least expect it. Even if he seems a shallow and whimsical man to those around him, you know that he actually cares.

You sighed. “Dad, I don’t like this. What will we do when the redcoats finally catch up to us?”

His eyes became wide like plates. “Us??” he gasped. “Honey, did you forget what vessel we command?”

“No. The Black Pearl. What of it?”

He raised his eyebrows at you, as if it’s self-evident. You rolled your eyes.

“We’ll be fine, I mean.” He assured you with a mischievous smirk. “Have I ever lied to you?”

You sighed, your gaze becoming softer as you looked into your father’s deep chocolate eyes. “No. Never.”

He draped a caring arm over your shoulder playfully and brought you closer. “You mean absolutely everything to me. I would bring every fleet of these seas to the bottom of the ocean for Davy Jones to pick apart if it meant your safety.”

You looked at him, and you were absolutely sure he would.

"So you were saying?" Will Turner turned to you as you were finally seeing Tortuga with your own eyes for the first time.

"It’s not that bad!" You exclaimed trying to keep your point of being right at all cost.

"Are you serious? Have you seen the pirates sleeping in the pig pen? Gibbs was there the first time I met him!"

"Gibbs?" You question, frowning in disgust.

"Yes! Gibbs! And I think I saw Jack make out with a bearded one legged prostitute once" he whispered in your ear with a shiver passing through him at the memory. He just continued to prove his point but you kept a head strong.

"And?" You snapped desperate to find ways to not say he was right, your stubbornness taking the best of you “You’d still love me if I was a bearded one legged prostitue.” You argued making Will’s brain freeze for a second as he tried to process what you just tried to say.

"First, it’s physically impossible for you to touch another man- and don’t argue" he shushed you as you were about to argue again. "And it’s also genetically impossible for you to grow a beard I mean even your father barely has one." He sighed "and it brings us back to the only possible hypothesis that you’ve made and yes I’d still love you if you had one leg." He shrugged. "But only if you get a wooden one like those pirates." He smiled once he was happy with his last comment.

"Haha very funny." You deadpanned.

"Just admit it Y/n, pirate island are filthy places." You shook your head, your mind set on making pirates look 100% good as though they were perfect beings.

"Alright then." He sighed placing an arm around your shoulders. "Let’s go inside" he smirked already knowing you’d crack once you saw the peculiar exhibit.

"Welcome" he pointed to the Inside of the tavern a small smirk filling his lips as he saw the look on your face.

"Not that bad." You lied. "Let’s get a drink!" You exclaimed to change the subject walking towards the counter.

You took your order, flinching when the man smiled at you with his rotten teeths, Will once again getting an amused grin upon his lips.

"I don’t see how you think pirate island are a filthy place, I mean I could even live here" You kept a straight face as you lied through you teeth, bringing the drink to your lips as you settled on a table.

"Really?" He looked at you in disbelief. "Not that bad?" He whispered already knowing you weren’t going to last much longer.

You settled your drink back down and nodded before making your stare fall down to your cup. Your face twisted as you saw a teeth and a piece of thumb gently floating at the top, screaming from the top of your lungs and pushing the cup away.

"Alright yes! I admit it" You screamed trying to calm your breathing as you spat out all your saliva that could have possibly been in contact with the liquid "You were right, pirate island are filthy places! Happy now?"
