advice for teens

introduction:

hey loves! i know that being a teenager sucks, but i want to give some tips on what helps me. obviously some things might not apply to you and ik that we all have different lives. these are just general tips!

getting your priorities:

the first thing is thinking about what you need to focus on. such as:

doing your best in school

being involved in extracurriculars/sports

having hobbies

developing healthy habits

plan for the future! what're you going to do after high school? how can you accomplish that?

physical health:

STOP skipping breakfast! idc if ur short on time or don't have an appetite, me neither, but i always have oatmeal in the morning. it's quick, cheap and it doesnt make me feel nauseous. breakfast is important for your body so pls start ur day right.

make a workout routine. exercise is so good for your body, and starting now is easier than starting when ur older. i like to do home workouts, lift small weights and go on walks!

drink enough water! most americans are dehydrated so ik that this is a big problem. read about WHY you need to stay hydrated and what it does for your body, then get enough water.

getting enough sleep. ik life can get in the way, but if u just scroll on ur phone for hour instead of sleeping you need to work on that! go to bed earlier and earlier gradually.

go outside. get sunlight and fresh air everyday, sit in your yard or deck, or just open a window. but dont spend all day everyday cooped up in ur room.

mental health

keep a vent journal. THIS is so helpful. i use loose paper in a binder and whenever i get rlly stressed or just feel like shit i write down all of my negative thoughts. (then i throw it out) this helps you clear your head and regulate emotions so you can approach problems in a healthy way.

communication!!! learn to communicate with the people in your life- its crucial for all types of relationships. learn how to disagree in a respectful way, how to voice how you feel, etc.

obviously therapy is the best route but ik a lot of people either cant afford it or aren't allowed to receive it by their parents. :/

school:

have a to-do list

create a study routine that's attainable.

have a calendar to write down when you have tests, quizzes, etc.

research college admissions. create a plan.

join extracurrcular activities. good for college admissions and making friends.

avoid drama. this is obvious ig but just don't tell everyone your business, or your thoughts on every person/situation. drama just creates way too much stress. be mindful of who you hang out with and how you treat other people.

outside of school:

be aware. learn about whats going on in your country and in the world. dont be oblivious to current events and whats happening, pay attention!

reflect. i like to take time to reflect- i think about my goals and ask myself what steps im taking towards reaching them. i reflect on my behavior, how i can be a better person, how im feeling, etc.

have hobbies. find things you enjoy and can do in your spare-time. i spend a lot of my free time reading, sewing, or doing something along those lines and it makes me feel good.

getting a part-time job. getting a job helps you learn saving skills, real-world experience and is just good overall in the long run.

ik that being a teenager can be hard becuz ur emotions are all over the place, ur stressed about ur future and ur not a kid but also not an adult. it's a weird time but you can make it *better* through being healthier, being mindful and making good decisions. wishing u all the best :)

“you’ll get over it eventually” and yet its been months since you’ve had this tiny crush on him. theres just something about him that you adore. maybe it’s the hair, or eyes. you didn’t know.

but if you were to confess but get friendzoned (since you guys were best friends) that would be one of the worst things that could happen with crushes.

and so you had the courage to confront him, just to talk it out. you saw him sitting at his desk, 10 minutes before class started.

“he was never this early” you thought.

you excused yourself to your other friends and walked up to him, taking the seat in front.

you started small talking him about the juicy drama thats been going on and all that kind of stuff. you kept going on about things even though you thought he wasn’t listening.

it was already midnight, you were lying in bed and scrolling on your phone, when a sudden vibration jumped you. it was a call from your best friend scara, the person who you had a crush on for months but felt like years. you pushed the answer button and put the call on speaker.

"why'd you call me?"

"i dont know.... i just felt like it"

"oh....ok"

then an awkward silence can only be heard. when you were about to break the silence, scara spoke.

you responded with a "yeah sure". you were so clueless of what was gonna happen. your heart was beating fast "what was he gonna say?" "oh no.... is he gonna-"

"yeah?"

"i really like talking to you and holding your hand!"

he went quiet and blushed and hid his face with his enormous hat. the stuttered "t-thank y-you"

the next day you wore the same exact jumper and over, and over, until junior high. you didn't realize you had a crush on him and said it was a best friends love and denied any feelings for him.

you went home that day and you were eating dinner with your family when your mother asked if scara wanted to come over some time. you thought it was a good idea and replied with a nod and a smile.

"its raining"

"yeah, pretty hard too"

you two were gazing at the window where rain was pouring hard and thunder struck you flinched but laughed it off. you looked around and saw your mom on the phone and nodding her head. you whispered who she was calling, she whispered back a "his mom".

you turned to scara to see him looking at the ground and then questioned him "do you like apple cider?". he looked at you dumbfounded like you just asked him the weirdest question anyone could ask.

which he blurred out a "yes, why?"

"do you want some?" you said with a gentle smile. and he replied with a simple "ok". you took his hand and ran to the kitchen and opened the fridge. where you found the apple cider at the bottom shelf on the side and took it with two hands.

you set it on the counter and grabbed two cups from a cupboard. you poured the two glasses with the drink and handed one of them to scara.

he took a sip and you did too. you could see a ghostly smile placed on his face. you grinned and took the last sip. your mom gave an announcement that scara would be staying the night since theres thunder outside. you happily squealed a "sleepover!"

I think atp we all knew that Elliot was going to come in and steal MC from her LI but I have to say I'm still so disappointed in this update. I feel like no one really had any time with their LIs, especially the Ozzy girls. Sure we got some lingering looks, Ozzy saying he would pick us if he has the opportunity and him looking jealous (yes pls more of that) but we didnt really have any time to just chat with him and learn more about him this update.

Also can we admit that the Elliot plot just sucks. it's not even about the fact that we get stolen, personally I love it on an angsty route. But for me it's more the fact that if you choose every option to tell him you don't want him, he still chooses you. If fb is going to give us a forced recoupling then they shouldnt be asking us every five seconds if were into Elliot. That temperature check on how we feel should only come AFTER we've already coupled up with him. BC for me Elliot looks like a massive idiot for choosing mc when I've told him that I wish he hadn't picked me for the date and that I like someone else. if you're blatantly telling someone youre not interested why would they then pick you, especially when your twin is standing right there....

am I wrong to say the episodes also felt super short this week? it just feels like nothing happened this update...first we go meet the new islanders, immediately get taken on dates, we have a few chats and then its recoupling. Our chats also felt superficial af, maybe bc I also dont care about the manufactured drama surrounding Lewie and Chloe. my most autistic moment yet (church drama) embarrassing storytime

so okay. i sing in the church choir right. i explained a bit like on how i started here. but basically after easter i came up to the choir director and asked if i could join. and she said "yes, welcome to our choir!". and thats how it all began.

the thing is i didn't grow up religious religious. i feel super out of place at church, idk what to do or how to act. so this whole time ive just been trying to pick up on social queues and do my best to not stick out like a sore thumb. so every time everyone does the cross thing, i do the cross thing, when people bow, i bow, when everyone gets on their knees, so do i. and it all feels pretty awkward i have to say. idk what the fuck im doing or why.

another thing is, im neurodivergent as fuck. i never feel like i belong anywhere. almost every social interaction feels like some kind of test that im failing at. i always feel like the person left out in a group. like my whole life ive just got used to the feeling of being an outsider. it feels like there are these rules everyone follows that i had not been informed of. everyone knows what to do and how to act. and all i do is imitate.

so in this sense church didn't feel too different. people look at me weird, i don''t feel included and everyone's following rules im oblivious too. seems like literally any other social setting, right?

and you may be wondering, why i decided to go to church in the first place if im not religious. well, singing there makes me euphoric and it really scratches an itch idk how to exlain it. the sensory stimulation part of the whole church thing like incense and the hymns that we sing and the aesthetics of it all, like it's very satisfying to me.

but back to the people there. so everyone there is always on edge. people are always shoving and pushing each other. and im always excluded. whenever music sheets are distributed im always skipped, so i often have to look over the shoulder of someone there to see what to sing. but often people dont even want to share with me. and everyone is in their little groups. theyre always whispering to each other and never talk to me. and no one says hello to me either.

so me with my little neurodivergent brain like i didn't think much of it at all. because, like i said, i never feel included anyway. im always the odd one out, like i have chronic imposter syndrome everywhere i go. and plus, i hope i don't get cancelled for racism, but i thought that everyone was mean and cold because they're russian... 💀 like forgive me pls, but like i just thought russians were unfriendly bc like eastern european resting bitch face stereotype. and i didn't want to impose myself and smile and wave if it's not a part of people's culture, right?

so anyway. ive been going to church literally every single sunday after easter without fail. ive been literally the most consistent person there, i show up every time. a lot of people only come like maybe every two weeks. and they don't stay until the end either. or they show up late. but im always there!

so yeah today i was there as usual. and the choir director comes up to me and says "you can't sing with us". and i was like what. and she was like "if you don't come to rehearsals and never show up you can't sing with us". and i was like shit, there are rehearsals??? and she looked at me like "yeahh 🙄 are you not in the groupchat?". THERE WAS A GROUPCHAT ALL THIS TIME????????

there's probably still details i am missing especially oclo stuff as i haven't done that fight yet, and i only became an active player after 1.3, but i'm still allowed to be interested and have opinions, even if this lore is... hard to dig for. so if i ever discuss anything and may be missing a piece please do let me know. but that doesn't matter what i want right now are opinions.

Listen, I know that y'all are here for my TMR content, but at least one of you has asked me for an OBX piece and I'm going through a phase, so I thought I'd say my piece on this.

A think a main point of tension in the fan base atm the moment is Jiara (Kiara x JJ).

Now- I would like to clarify that I love the show, and I really like Kie as a character, and even though JJ is my favourite character, I'm not a delusional fangirl who dislikes their relationship because of that.

I, at the end of season 2, actually really liked them and thought they would make a cute couple.

But, as of season 3, I do not like them together.

Hear me out.

I, personally (as in this is my opinion pls dont shout at me), do not like them in season 3.

My main problem with the show and the relationships in the group is that it is incredibly heteronormative - which also increased with Cleo joining the group (I absolutely love Cleo she is an icon I have no problems with her). But like, a friend group with the same amount of boys and girls does not mean that everyone has to pair up. People can just be mates. And while the cast is obviously very diverse, which is brilliant we love to see it, there is not one slightly queer character in the show.

And, Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara, literally has a girlfriend in real life. Idk maybe I will just die on the headcanon hill that Kie is a lesbian because she is an interesting character and I do not care about the whole relationship drama between her and the boys.

Another point people keep arguing over is that Kie and JJ was forced.

And like, no, it wasn't- we've been seeing them subtly flirt for 2 seasons. It's been made obvious that JJ obviously has feelings for Kie; literally in the first episode. And, after season 2, it's clear Kie likes him too.

But, it does feel forced.

Like, it's established they like each other, but they've always liked each other and have gotten into the most horrendous situations without saying anything. So why now?

JJ feels normal - but Kie feels kinda out of character. Like, maybe she just had enough and couldn't hold back anymore, like, girl, I get you. But they used to have good, flirty but friendly energy, and it feels like the writers were forcing tension between them. Which is extra annoying cause it's at the expense of my boy Pope.

Also, just throwing it out there, the whole "I love you, dude" scene didn't even process as a love confession to me - it was only JJ's reaction that made me realise. I think it's because me and my mates say we love each other all the time and the "dude" made it feel like her just trying to convince him she cares over having genuinely strong feelings for him.

Though the Kitty Hawk rescue was peak from JJ and absolutely that I expected their romantic relationship to be- it's just everything before that.

And don't get me started on the time skip.

It's some really bizarre writing. Like, they make sense, but the way it all went down just doesn't make sense to me for some strange reason.

Idk how to explain it. It feels rushed, like whilst they've been friends for years, we didn't really see any progress or realisation from Kiara's side. Like, maybe a scene where she talks to Sarah about it and says she doesn't know what to do and she thinks she's starting to fall for JJ could've made it feel less... off. Something as simple of that could've really added to it in my opinion. Like, we didn't see Kie's feelings for JJ outside of their interactions with each other.

If that makes sense, I'm struggling to explain here.

Season 3 Episode 5 Thoughts

I have to start out by saying that this episode had such a high impact on me that I literally was not able to write these notes until the next day… So yeah that should explain a lot about how great this episode was

Let’s start off with sassy Gina. I think it is so fantastic how much she is using little comments and remarks to get back to EJ. It reminds me a lot of the last episode and how he was making little side remarks against Ricky. It’s almost like her subconscious way of showing him what he was doing to Ricky when he was mad. She was going to lash back the same

CARLOS’ NAILS I LOVE SM

Ricky breaking the 4th wall again by making eye contact with the camera 😭 pls

Also why does it make so much sense that Carlos was literally the only person to pull off the drama stunt with the rest of the cast? Like he really understands what makes good tv and I love that for him

Also the writing in this episode was 😙👌🏻 it was funny, romantic, dramatic, confusing and fast and everything else. It kept you on your toes and felt engaging every step of the way. The writers REALLY stepped up their game this season and it’s making the season feel whole and complete. I think some other story lines could be slightly more fleshed out but with the time constraints they had it was still done well

Kourtney saying “RCOSL” and Carlos getting annoyed gives me the same vibe as London and Mosby with the “PRNDL”

The fact that Gina said she CANT improvise and then she was asked to improvise in WDYKAL tells me it might not have been improv at all. She wasn’t improvising, she was acting out in vengeance. Which remembered what happened last time she couldn’t improvise and acted out instead? Mr Elton John got a drink dumped on his head at the dance in S1

And I LOVE that there is a water dumping parallel when Gina gets “upset” at Kourtney over her lines and gets to throw it again

Tbh I feel like anyone in this fandom would be fine if Sofia threw water at them

EJ is here for the wrong reasons??? Remember why Carlos casts these? Because he felt like they matched people’s personalities. I think this is a big ole red flag for p*rtwell. He’s in Gina’s life- at camp- for the wrong reasons. Maybe it’s to hold onto his past, not go to school, whatever… but that tells us he shouldn’t be there loud and clear

Also it’s been pointed out a million and one times but RICKY SAID HE LOVES GINA IN A NOT SO SUBTLE WAY. Like NO HESITATION. The minute Carlos said Ricky was mad Ej took the girl he loves Ricky was like “oh right gina!!” And then had to come back from it because he realized how quick he responded 😭😭

“He stole her- or WOULD HAVE stolen her in a fake scenario” 🤪😳🫢

And the held a torch to her for YEARS?? Um hello this implies Ricky has had feelings since the beginning?? Which in many cases Ej and Nini saw in s1. Like the scene where they hugged or Ej asked if gina cared about Ricky. EJ knows the feelings have always been there

And then him saying that was his motivation and asking to slap him again I’m DEAD

The vocals, the choreo, the other actors reactions, the CHEMISTRY… everything about this song is literally so good. And it all built up to this??? Like it’s not out of nowhere but years of waiting and build up and at the end the tension is so high it literally causes Gina to run out of fear because she doesn’t know what else to do but panic???? Like hello???!!!

this scene was so much because everything comes out in different ways and to have that many reveals in one sitting can be not overwhelming for the characters but the audience watching as well

Not Maddox just calling Ashlyn out like that 😭 but also she never denied it… so??? 😳🏳️‍🌈

I don’t know if this was supposed to be taken as a funny thing or not… But I find it really interesting that Ricky needed to lay down when Jet and Maddox were yelling so much of each other? It seemed like he was almost having some flashbacks to things that made him upset and his anxiety started to heighten reliving that trauma over again? Because not only did his parents fight like this but he also fought with Nini like this… it just seems like a trauma response for him to literally shut down so I’m not surprised he felt the need to lay down during all of that

But also on a lighter note it’s so funny how the kids are all yelling and everything is serious and then Carlos gets completely caught up on EJ not being Eric Junior and Ricky missing everything to yell about Maddox and jet being siblings completely out of context help 😭😭

And ok I’m not going to go TOO in on this because it’s been discussed a lot but there has been a lot of discussion around Ricky having regression (which is not true at all… look at other posts about this to get more context), but isn’t it interesting that Gina says OUTLOUD, “this is what the old Ej would do”. She is literally pointing out that him not being honest and hiding himself is a form of him regressing as a character. I’m really interested to see how the writers bring him out of this

I saw someone post about Ricky saying when you can’t find the words you just sing instead might be him hinting at singing Kristoffs lullaby and I LOVE THIS SM. But also I can’t tell what I would love more? If he is singing this off in a distance and pining at Gina or singing it to her 😭 both would be beautiful tbh

RICKY HAS A CRUSH ON GINA I STILL CANT BELIEVE THIS IS CANON ON SCREEN OUT LOUD ITS-

But also when he puts his head in his hands after getting caught speaking outloud. Like boy knows he done messed up. I am REALLY curious what they’re doing with that footage. Either Gina will see it on purpose, on accident, or it’ll get deleted but she’ll still find out anyway through word of mouth and I don’t care how but I love that somehow Ricky is gonna get CAUGHT

You can see he is trying SO HARD to avoid his feelings being known and he literally can’t. I think this is where the line from Val earlier about not being able to hide your love and it comes out in other ways comes in. He literally cannot keep others from seeing it and finding out which is frustrating him beyond belief. Enough people are seeing, noticing, saying things though that at this point… I’m sorry buddy there is nothing that can be hidden

Bu that aside lmao I love this song. It’s implications with the kids around him and him looking with admiration at younger Maddox says a lot about their relationship. He just wants what is best for her through his actions and it showed so poorly. He feels so much regret even though he wanted to do everything right. Just a lot of misunderstanding and heart ache which I think sums up a lot of the relationships in this season as well

Ok who tf is EJ calling? I think it’s easy to assume it’s his dad but I don’t know that that is actually who he is calling and why? Is it to leave? Create more drama? Heal something that he feels or needs to be healed? I’m just very curious about who might be coming

Pls take what I say with a grain of salt bc I’ve only watched what’s up to date in the TV show, I haven’t read much of the main book series/the recent stuff, though I really want to. PS all my ranting can be quelled if I just read some fan fiction LMAO

I think I’m finally understanding why I don’t like the female characters in outlander as much. It’s obvious and Idek how I didn’t realize it but you can really tell just how much stuff the male characters get to do/adventures they get to go on vs what the female characters get to do. It totally makes sense because of the time period but I never thought to stop and think about how it effects the plot. Jamie/John/any other male character is like the driving part of the plot, the women just go where they go. Jamie gets to lead a wine business, work the printing press, be a laird, go to prison, have a hunt on his head, be in charge of of his Ridge, participate in politics, live as a fucking hobbit you name it. And the female character just get to be housemaids and deal with whatever bullshit Jamie brings them into🥲 like where’s the Claire and Jenny teaming up together saving Jamie from his own stupid mistakes like in the first season! That episode was so fun! I feel like they do less of that now. And DONT GET ME WRONG I completely understand logically why the women don’t get to have as much fun, I’m just simply realizing I think that is why the female characters don’t have a place in my heart in the same way the male characters do. It’s because of their lack of freedom to adventure. The male characters just catch my attention more because they really embody the limitless adventure of Outlander. Like of course Claire goes on the craziest adventure out of all of them, but she’s a package deal from the moment she marries Jamie. It’s only like in season 3 for a couple episodes that’s she separated from him (mainly talking about when they’re headed to Jamaica). And once she reaches Fraser’s ridge she has drama between characters but nothing happens that really that thrilling. And just like “hmm I can’t think of anything else interesting for her to deal with so why not have her get assaulted😀👍” like HUH. That’s just so… like omg, pick something else! I know it’s important for her to understand how Jamie felt but Idek it’s not necessary imo. And don’t get me started on Brianna, pls, anyone who really likes Brianna pls comment why you like her because I’m genuinely curious. Because to me I just see her as someone who married a pretty questionable man and got assaulted by a even shittier man. And like that’s not fun bro! She deserves better! Like I love her personality but when it comes to her significance in the story like I struggle to think of anything major. Like what else does she have going for her other than that she’s Jamie and Claire’s daughter. Where’s her adventure? Like yes she girlbossed and killed her attacker good for her but like come onnn I need moree. Like obvs there’s a ridiculous amount of directions Outlander could take, but giving more life to Briannas character would def make me very happy. Honestly, it took me a min to process this weeks episodes.

I have been reading people thoughts about the episodes, and i miss when the Islanders had their own personal opinion on MC.

I'm also getting tired of FB desperately trying to make LI so shady in this case, Lewie, for me.

Like pls make up your mind. Is Lewie a sweet guy, or is he a red flag. Is Jamal the chilled cool guy, or is he a snake. Like i get there has to be drama but why is everything surrounding MC at least season 2 and 4 we had Priya/Noah/Hope drama Lottie or mc/Rocco/Marisol drama and 4, the whole Lexi/Kobi/Valentina.

If this is an attempt to bring back the story line of MC and Bruno, they are failing horribly.

At this point, i just feel like Ozzy is obviously the main character, I like him, but i really wanted to pursue and look into the other routes before his slow burn.

I did like that we finally got to interact abit with amelia and she wasnt mixed in the drama, but Pls for the love of god just get over what you have to say because i promise you i dont care if its anything Zeph involved.

I liked Lewie getting jealous, and im not gonna lie. i liked the whole (Suresh/Arlo) moment looking at each other through the dates, i wish we could have flirted like we did then, but i was a Suresh Girlie. But definitely, last season gave me whiplash, and i was hoping for a cleaner route the first time around.

The whole recoupling was so rushed like i was literally just coupled up with Lewie the night before????

Also once again FB WHY ARE YOU MAKING HIM GO TO TALK TO CHLOE BEFORE US, then coming to me to sneak away with you at the day beds???

Something bugging me is that we can't seem to talk to other ppl unless it's LI related. In Season 2 my MC was hooping around in my noah route. Right now, i feel like i barely spoke to Jamal or Roberto. it's either flirt with your first LI or Ozzy. Maybe they change it later. Sorry for venting!

Every single season since s2 we've all been like bring back s2. give us what we had back then. and I know when s2 was out people complained that MC was constantly in someone else's drama and it was too centered around the villa and not us. but why didnt they tweak that just a tiny bit instead of giving us the most boring season of life with s3. s4 I think is the closest we ever got to s2 because we actually had routes that season but we also had one of the ugliest MCs of all time. no need to drudge up the past on s5...I was a suresh girlie too and man they put literally everyone in hell every single week. I have some ptsd after that season and still havent been able to replay it. I know we said we wanted recouplings back after having zero last season but we actually wanted some control over them!! we didnt want fb to just dictate them all over again. fb lowkey has ruined the LJR route for me. one I hate that those THREE guys all have the exact same route. and then if you aren't romancing the other two u literally never see them or talk to them. S2 I never romanced Ibrahim or Gary and was never coupled with them but I actually got to know them and even though we were just friends I knew so much about them. We know nothing about the other guys. Some people have sent me asks about head canons for Roberto and I havent been able to answer them bc I literally dont know that man. the only people I know are Ozzy and Lewie and even then the convos have been kind of surface.
