So, we all know what cats are like when they like someone, right?? Just, following them around constantly. They don't want pets, they don't want to get picked up, they just want to watch you from a distance of five to twenty feet. Anyway, that's Damian!

He's in love with you, he needs you, he wants to keep you, but he has his pride!! Well, for a while at least. He's clingy, of course but he just... pretends he isn't?? It doesn't really work after the first few times. Pressing kisses to your forehead and holding your hand. And he'll do it while he's glaring at you.

Now, if you break up with him or reject him, you are going to see true brattiness. Monstrously bratty. How dare you? How dare you think you can leave him, reject him? He's the heir to the Al Ghul and Wayne dynasties. He gives you everything. And you don't accept it?

...Okay, you thought he'd stomp off after that. He's not leaving?? He's just... sitting outside your house...?? Why the hell is he glaring at you through your window???? It's not your fault????? Damian, however, is absolutely certain it is your fault. He will sit there through rain and snow, deliver you gifts and takeout, and wait sadly and grumpily till you take him back. And I thought he was impatient!

Unfortunately, while you saw him as a cat, he thought the same with you. While you see him as tame, he thinks of you as some wild alley cat that needs to be caught for it's own good. He just needs to slowly acclimate you to him and you guys will be right as rain. Maybe some treats will make you like him more? He'll figure it out, that he's confident of. Don't tell him he's being silly, you will just make things worse.

This has happened to him long and often enough for him to have it worse than almost any other demigod when it comes to self-eestem,not helped by Poseidon's abandonment that he's never actually made up for

Mama's boy.Not a definitive but autistic boys tend to be closer to their mom's than to their dad's,both irl and in fiction

Sally dosen't quite understand how he works completely but never puts him down for being different and in fact considers him being different to be a blessing to both of them

okay so. skirk thoughts

first of all: as much as her design is still just kind of an ehhh compared to what couldve been, i do think it looks so much better in the actual game. the sfx in her arms and legs in particular helps a Lot imo. still not a massive fan but given i already loved the hair+eyes as well as the general color scheme, im warming up to it. still unfortunate we didnt get something more ambitious but i can live with this lmao

personality wise i actually really love how they went about her? its a little unexpected but skirk really has that abyss autism rizz to her JSJSIDISGFK love it. like this really isnt someone used to any manner of regular human interactions and it shows. i really like how blunt and utterly unfazed she is even when dropping some insane lore bombs bc theyre just peanuts to her. shes just completely unlike any character from any faction weve encountered before and i rly love the energy they gave her

i also found her little ramble about the value of life and death pretty interesting. it almost makes it sound like she considers herself dead in some way? with how she talks about there being no point in holding onto the bonds and remains of dead things and how this personal philosophy of hers is why she never comes to the surface anymore. like huh. whats up with that.

it also really reminds me of how an underappreciated aspect of childes characterization imo is how like. Incredibly insistent he is on staying alive being the most valuable thing? like this comes up Repeatedly in his voicelines. and now we have skirk literally talking about how to live is in itself a blessing. like i am Not buying this being coincidental at all. so unless they physically disprove me in this somehow down the line im taking this as 100% proof that childes high regard for life is Directly imparted to him through skirks teachings. and thats really interesting to think about.

and like. overall im quite happy with this glimpse of her character we have? i have bigger issues with the overall handling of the childe+narwhal+skirk segment of the AQ but those are narrative problems. skirk really stands out as a character and shes just. really fascinating AND funny as fuck in her nonchalance like. what an icon.

the only real unfortunate thing w her appearence specifically i think just has to do with the way her manner of speech and position as a narrator of dubious reliability to an extent is already leading to some. Quite unfortunate misreadings and/or taking the implications of her statements too far at face value. and i just know fandom will latch onto those forever 😭

(& jic i dont mean dubious reliability in the traditional unreliable narrator or like. lying or sth sense. just that her worldview is so alien and foreign to us that it should be taken into careful account before just blindly running off with any particular thing she claims)

like. firstly. the narwhal. ppl really dont seem to be catching onto how skirks perception of it as just a scuffed pet thats a hassle to manage isnt like. actually reflective of what a massive deal of an entity it is (read the boss fight quest item drop lore i am begging. or just wait for me to start narwhalposting JAJSKDK its coming 100%) 💀💀 what it DOES reflect more than anything is what an absolute maniac surtalogi (+ skirk by extension) has to be in order to claim a creature of this magnitude as a PET of all things. its also good to note that skirk herself readily admits both her highly unconventional view on most things AND that her master wont necessarily share any and all information with her - more so what he thinks is pertinent for her to know. her assessment of the narwhal as a nuisance of a task for a disciple isnt really reflective of the ultimate big picture HSJDKDKSK though it is very funny i have to admit.

im just preemptively annoyed and frustrated by it already bc its highkey giving azhdaha all over again where 99% of fandom just dismissed his deeper lore bc they took the storytellers claims of zhongli creating him at complete face value. like to the point hoyo had to literally add a whole segment at the end of the chasm interlude where zhongli more or less directly wink wink nod nods that a career entertainer isnt giving you the most accurate lore on this stuff 😭😭 like please. ive had the tears from among the stars lore fucking HAUNTING me ever since i first read it. its not just a silly pet whale im hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and secondly. people really jumping the gun on "haha skirk thinks childe weak" when she was... quite literally speaking in past tense JSJSKDKSISKDK thats ajax 14 not the current state of things. while i do agree skirks power level is still way above his to the point i absolutely do think she considers him weak from her standpoint & ways off from his true potential, id also just.... like to point out that she pretty much confirms that her view of his competence has very much changed too? like please yall

skirk, who in all the years post ajax' 3 day abyss trip made NO effort to contact or keep up with him whatsoever and stated that her disciple wasnt worth even speaking to in the past has now LITERALLY voiced the intent to assign him the task of being a messenger between herself (possibly even surtalogi) and neuvillette. and she has made it VERY clear that she views the communication between herself and neuvillette (and traveler too) as one between equals?

this isnt her assigning childe some irrelevant side quest to keep him busy but actually utilizing him for a task she takes at least relatively seriously. like wdym she still considers him the exact same as before 😭😭😭😭 like obviously childes far off from being regarded as anywhere near an equal by skirk bc SHES just that insanely powerful but seriously. to me this is as clear an acknowledgement of his growth on her part as we will get JSJSKDKFKSKDKJ

but alas. everyone loves a "ha ha childe so weak XDDDD" like they just never wanna let that one go. Man

Okay so I see your TLT to Archive Undying prop, I see you know/read at least some of Baru - how would you sell me (a diehard Baru girlie ride or die, that's my autism rizz failgirlboss, my beloved) on Archive?

oooh this was. a tricky one. bc. can i tell you a secret:

i didn't finish the traitor baru cormorant! i didn't like it enough! i can see how ppl would like it but the combo of the slow pacing + that particular brand of dark content just wasn't for me. & that's ok! but it does mean that i didn't feel fully equipped to answer this question on my own.

so after consulting w my local baru expert @urban-sith, i have come to present you with these conclusions:

both books rely a lot on the reader's ability to keep up with the worldbuilding. if you like picking up pieces of facts about a world and adding them to your little mental file, the archive undying is a book you will enjoy.

making an educated guess on this one, bc ire isn't texting me back fast enough: rereading is a value add for both books. like you will fully get Mileage out of archive, as i am guessing one does out of baru.

sunai, the protag and primary pov character of archive, is not so much baru cormorant as he is tain hu. self-sacrificing. kind of silly. disaster gay. spoiler: he does have a happier ending than tain hu does. low bar, that.

some differences that may or may not be selling points!:

archive takes a very locked tomb approach to gender & sexuality. there's a couple non-binary characters in the book and it's treated VERY normally. one of them has a gun.

time passing is much less obvious in archive? like weeks at a time are skipped over during traveling, but in such a way that it's easy to miss. it's mostly revealed in the sunai & veyadi talk to each other—the dialogue between them really landed for me as "two people who know each other well having a conversation".

related to that: so many things happen in archive. the pacing is INSANE. i find it fun, but if you liked baru's pacing you may think it feels rushed.

something to note is. well. seth is a white man. and not saying that white men can't write well about empires and imperialism/colonialism, but it's not like he's experienced colonization himself. emma mieko candon, on the other hand, is 4th generation japanese in hawaii. imperialism is a background theme in archive compared to baru cormorant, but i felt that its understanding of how empires and imperial states can layer on top of each other was much more nuanced.

no one in baru cormorant buys a chicken to use as an alarm system.

This man is like pretty much canonically autistic (multiple other characters imply he has it but other than that it's not directly stated). And he has so much fucking rizz not just in Canon but over the fandom as well. Ok so it's been awhile since I watched but here we go. He's had quite a few love interests over the show (more than the other characters). At one point he ends up getting a girlfriend through only speaking on the phone together. Not even like a smart phone he uses phone booths to speak with this girl. Also in like s1 if the show they kind of set it up in his birthday episode that him and J.J. might be a thing. They completely forget about this for 14 more seasons in which J.J. gets married and has kids with another guy. Then at the end of s14 and beginning of s15 they have her reveal that she has had a crush on him this entire time. Also another coworker of his, Morgan, calls him pretty boy all the time. I mean he's teasing him but it feels important to mention. Also he is very much the fan favorite. I was so in love with this man when I was like 14. He also has the very flirty rivalry with this one girl played by Aubrey Plaza who tries to ruin his life, but like in a flirty way? Like if you've watched the show you know what I mean. They have a lot of chemistry even she framed him for murdering someone. She also made out with him in front of his current girlfriend.

he is like. incredibly autistic and literally every woman he meets is in love with him. it’s like… on the autism front i cannot make this case coherently (i am autistic and i love him). incoherently: he “likes to think but dislikes to talk” (& also gets lost in his own thoughts constantly to the point he does not notice anything happening outside) there’s a moment that i’m obsessed with where his friend navigates a social situation he got himself in for him (basically lancelot completed a quest that would entitle him to marrying a woman and he does not want to do that so his friend gawain explains to the woman that she must understand but his friend simply cannot marry her while lancelot is just there not saying anything. this scene is so funny and cute to me. this is in lancelot and the hart with the white foot it’s part of the dutch version of the vulgate cycle i think) and in general he is. not good at social situations. actually i’m pretty sure there’s some autism scholarship on “knight of the cart” specifically unless i dreamt it… he also has… look i’m not saying this is actually a meltdown but he has these episodes (in the vulgate cycle) where when he’s like really upset he cries and like tears at his skin & clothes & such and this is kind of. normal depictions of grief stuff in medlit but. haha i do that. y’know? on the rizz front it’s like. everyone is in love with lancelot. those that are serious enough about it will die for it too. but it’s very often that some woman is in love with him and he is not interested because he only loves guinevere and he does not like this situation. it’s like a daily occurrence. he also has. well. obviously the whole guinevere thing is quite significant. there’s also galehaut (in the vulgate) who is winning a war against arthur & then sees lancelot fighting (on arthur’s side) and really wants to be his companion so he seeks out lancelots company and lancelot goes “forfeit then” and galehaut does. and it’s like insane. & they are companions thereafter & then galehaut kills himself when he thinks lancelot is dead and lancelot upon learning that galehaut is dead nearly does the same but is stopped by a messenger from his mom. yeah. they’re also buried in the same tomb after lancelot dies a long time later. i mean there’s gawain also and the whole thing with the sword with which lancelot is to kill the man that he loves most and with which he kills gawain… elaine of astolat also. the one the lady of shalott is based on. her. falls in love with lancelot and also dies for it :( but no really the guinevere thing is pretty significant and at times so romantic to me. sorry for being hashtag problematic / a medieval noblewoman i just think that courtly love. but anyway. lancelot is autistic and everyone is in love with him. i hope this works and sorry you had to read this. autism

Alright, lemmie tell yall about this man. He is one of the most autisic people from the whole series (in my opinion). He is canonly a trainer that is so good that, if he really wanted to, he could walk up the the elite 4 of Unova and walk out the champion. But he wont, and that is because all he wants to do is spend his time battling people on a subway in the middle of a highly populated city. Plus his dialogue with in all the games has him making SO many train references to the point that wen he gets eppie deepied into the past and gets amnesia-ed in the process, he still contunes to speak this way because of mussel memory. Along with this, he canonly struggles with with both being able to express himself psychically through movement and facial expressions but also has a very hard time with volume control, causing him to yell all the god dam time. As for the rizz aspect, I don't think I could count how many ships this man has so I think that qualifies.

He's from the in-game emails in FNAF AR. Due to the text based format of how we see his communications and the fact that reply emails may have existed, but just weren't misdirected to the player by the mail server error, it's unknown what Ness's reaction to him is, but from what we can imply from his email after they meet up for coffee and how Vanessa speaks of him in the hidden tapes in Security Breach, it's sort of confirmed that they're on good terms. He's clearly the can't-communicate-very-clearly-over-text-so-rambles-and-seems-like-an-idiot type, and I think he pulled. I think his socially inept charm and autistic info dumping swag charmed her. Also in one of his emails, he sends this line: "I had no idea you were into IT stuff. I always think my job sounds so boring, but you were so interested it made me start thinking, hey, maybe IT is cool after all. Or maybe you're just a good listener." CANNON INFODUMPER. He cares about his colleagues wellbeing, clearly has a special interest in IT and rambles on about it, and is not great at text based communication but is at a point where he communicates anyway because he has to, even if he knows it may come off wrong.
