Implementation of cash for work Programmes in Iraq.
Tumblr media
About seven million Iraqis – nearly a quarter of the population – live in poverty, and there are few decent jobs as the economy struggles to recover.
UNDP in Iraq has partnered with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) to provide immediate livelihoods assistance to people in Diyala and Salah with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provided through KFW Development Bank to support people of Diyala and Salah.
Cash-for-work programmes in Iraq were one way to help people overcome poverty and shocks and build the foundations for longer-term resilience.
Addressing poverty—especially given the multitude of prevailing challenges—requires a multidimensional approach that focuses on both tangible and intangible deprivations.

I refuse to call government assistance programs “welfare” or “benefits”.
I’ve been on government assistance programs my whole life. I have never lived above the poverty line.
It’s a system that doesn’t care about my wellbeing, they care about doing the bare minimum to keep people alive enough to function and work, and if you’re disabled and cannot work, they give significantly less of a fuck.
And benefits?? What benefits?
Food stamps that run out within two weeks because I am budgeting with 8$ a day with literally dozens of dietary restrictions? Or do you mean the housing voucher that I have to never even have a gift card, penny to my name, Sams club membership, phone bill, literally anything that could be “income” in order to qualify? That same housing voucher system that if I mess up even once with I not only lose all government aid for at least 5 years, it’s also mandatory PRISON time for 1 year?? “Oh but they would never do that, right?” Nope! I have several friends who are now felons for minor lease violations and unhoused as a result! Oh maybe you mean the state health insurance that doesn’t cover most treatments, specialists, and testing I need and if I tried to make a gofundme to cover, I would lose aforementioned housing? Oh and we can’t forget all the money I get for being disabled, which is exactly 0$. I’m still fighting for SSI and have been for 6 years! That’s over 6 years with absolutely zero income. ZERO. And guess what, whenever I *do* get on SSI, I will lose my housing voucher. And I won’t be able to afford my current apartment because even in subsidized low income housing it’s too expensive for the maximum SSI “benefit” amount. And on SSI you can’t have savings over 2000$. Oh and they do make housing for people who are low income where you pay 30% of your income but I can’t even be on the waitlist since I don’t have any income. And on top of all this, I can never get married because I’ll lose all of the programs.
I could keep going. That’s not even half of the programs I’m a part of.
• None of them give me cash in hand. Even for vouchers I have to provide receipts for everything.
• Food stamps just straight up won’t even cover ineligible items. Which includes hot foods.
• I genuinely don’t believe that there’s a way to “game the system” and why would you? You would gain literally nothing.
• It’s designed to keep people poor. Once you make over a certain amount, you lose all or almost all benefits. There’s no way to slowly transition out of the programs, if you’re someone who’s able to. It’s all in or all out.
• All of these barriers are made significantly worse while unhoused/homeless. I’ve been homeless for over half of my life and there’s so many fucked up rules. If I missed one night staying in the shelter, I lost my housing voucher because I no longer was “verified as homeless” even if I was sleeping outside still.

why are you lying about being rich
ah drat, you've found me out! the billions in gold bullion that I have in my basement and swim through like scrooge mcduck have been discovered!
To be extremely clear, absolutely none of you have any right to know jack about my finances or any other detail of my life. You wanna talk about how to make your home cool on a shoestring budget, great; happy to chat. But the exact second someone goes fishing for personal information is the time I tell them to block and unfollow. You guys are not entitled to any part of my life beyond what I willingly divulge. I'm not being rude but this is a hard line for me when it comes to social media. This is a public forum and I do not have any obligation to you.

Something about how in chapter 4 of trc Adam is insecure about the fray on his second hand sweater, and how it's a symbol of his background and insecurities, and how most people don't notice it, and if they did, they didnt think better of him for it
And how Blue saw it immediately and it was something she liked about him, a girl too good at seeing the vulnerabilities of other people, but Adam didnt want someone to see his insecurities, didn't want someone to acknowledge that life
But Gansey did. Gansey needed someone to see him at his worst and love him for it, and blue did that
And how Adam needed someone to see him at his most unruly, and encouraged that
And Ronan makes Adam loud

If you're wondering why I set up ko-fi membership stuff after I really resisted monetizing in any way for so long, btw... Honestly, it's because taxes and some big surprise vet bills this month kinda. decimated my savings. by a lot.
Normally I'm okay enough financially, but I'm in a really high cost of living area, and it's just been a really rough month in a lot of different ways.
So, if you're interested in supporting me or my work, whether it's with a membership or a one-time thing or whatever - and only if you can genuinely afford it - that would honestly be amazing and more helpful than I strictly like to admit
As an extra incentive, if this ko-fi thing goes well, I'll commit to actually answering asks and shit again lol
Either way <3 <3 to all of you

Do you guys really believe that killing is the singular bad thing that cops do?
Or even that killing is the most frequent bad thing that cops do?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are you saying that if cops didn't kill, then they'd be the same as Batman? Because then you're suggesting that effectively Batman already is a cop, with the exception that he hasn't killed (just like the majority of U.S. cops, who have never once shot or killed anybody).
I'm a bit worried to see opinions suggesting that only killing is wrong—and that violence, stalking, and humiliation are okay. In real-life, police commit countless acts of those "little" abuses, terrorizing entire communities, before they murder anybody.
Invading people's privacy is wrong. Hurting people to the point of hospitalization is wrong. Forcibly drugging people is wrong. Putting people in cages is wrong. Torture and "enhanced interrogation" are wrong. Ambushing people in their homes and safe places is wrong. Keeping inexhaustible wealth is wrong.
Superhero comics are power fantasies. Not all fantasies need to reflect our ideology in reality. But once you apply your real-life values to fiction, once you decide that fiction showcases exemplary real-life ideology—then your praise for Batman's ideology does become a worrying reflection of your real-life understanding of social issues.

still stuck on mhok's trauma, unsurprisingly. i keep thinking about the opening scenes of this show, showing us day losing his sight, and mhok losing rung. i really thought that the show would spend equal time and care on both
my first post about this show was pointing out that the first shot of day is a close up of his eyes, and the first time we see mhok, he's holding something in his mouth. and i thought it was so interesting that we see mhok gagged, because society generally doesn't care what people who've been incarcerated have to say. or poor people. and by and large, it doesn't care about the voices of traumatized people, either
and i was so curious to see what the show was going to do with that. i can't believe the show itself was never really interested in what mhok has to say
and i'm stuck on mhok's time in hawaii. the show highlighted over and over again how poor he is, and we know that he didn't like studying. what are his english skills like? we saw singha there, and i think one other thai person. was that the extent of his social circle? he seemed pretty happy to leave hawaii behind, so did he make no new friends? did he spend his days off just sitting in his room by himself, the way day did when he went to songkla with mhok?
i assume he and porjai were still in touch, but he moved abroad at a time when his ptsd was getting worse, and in the wake of a terrible breakup, and he just walked all of that off? alone???
feeling overly protective and over-responsible is absolutely an understandable trauma response for mhok, but you know what else is? losing a relationship, and feeling like you HAVE to go back and fix it, and that if you can just get a do-over, you'll be able to do everything perfectly this time, and you'll get everything right, and everything will be okay! this makes more sense to me in the final episode than the idea of mhok and day having a happily ever after does

Tackling Poverty and unemployment in Jordan.
Tumblr media
A recent report released by the World Bank has revealed that over one-third of Jordan's population lives below the poverty line.
UNDP Jordan provides hands-on training for women to fight poverty and transform the lives and opportunities of women and their families and support the local economy so they can start their own businesses that can create new jobs and boost the local economy.
The CO supported youth to overcome poverty. Mariam Al-Fares, an inspiring 27-year-old young woman, benefited from the “Promoting Local Economic Development Programme in Jordan”." Funded by the EU and managed by the Ministry of Interior, the project enabled her to overcome poverty and social barriers and become a well-known entrepreneur in Ajloun, one of the successful small business owners.

This is a sweeping, impressively-researched history... and I finished it in about three days. Mikanowski uses both his relevant PhD and his relevant family history, and the results are fascinating. Not only is the research impressive and methodologically rich, but the prose is so good it makes me feel like a hack.

i feel like a harm reduction mindset should be applied to most things. like, harm reduction as in "i am giving you the researched and objective facts of your [x often perceived risky behavior] so you can make your own informed decisions, free of judgement or moralization on my part." like im not even talking about stuff like health or whatever im straight up talking about personal finance courses. why do so many of them just tell you what to do without giving you the full scope of what your choices are or how some legal stuff works.

no but actually something on tiktok made me think of Cassian and Feyre and Nesta and Elain and how like,,, the inverse happened to each of them
Cassian went from having no money to being BFFs with the High Lord and suddenly getting a very comfortable life
the Archeron Sisters going from being wealthy to being very poor???
HELLO WHY WASNT THIS EXPANDED ON
and writing this made me think about how quick Cassian weaponized the Cabin Years against Nesta when he met her. and that made me think hm. he's Illyrian. Do the women in those camps not break their backs doing domestic work? do they not face subjugation and aren't allowed to train or whatever?
Feyre took on the masculine role in their family but Cassian went straight for Nesta bec she wasn't having it with Feyre bringing fae into her house
of fucking course he expected Nesta to break her back running her family bec she's the oldest and she's very squarely feminine in a way Feyre is Not
let's go with misogyny and not the nuance and conversations around CLASSISM AND POVERTY SARAH COME ON THEY WERE RIGHT THERE. THEY COULD HAVE TALKED ABOUT THE TRAUMA OF JUST BEING FUCKING POOR WITH NO RESOURCES
