personally if tatiana hated shadowhunters and didn't want her child(ren) to grow up that way that much, she should've just gotten some werewolf to turn her while she was pregnant. depending on how she played it and with who she could've been still rich and evil and scary and spent time plotting her enemies' downfall and she wouldn't have had to worry about her son dying neither would she have had to go about wrecking up grace's life or making deals with hell-princes. it would've been a lot simpler. besides it's almost canonical that werewolves have free-provided access to therapy (that is the kind of stuff the praetor lupus does and i'm pretty sure it existed by then already if only in its earliest stages) so maybe she could've just, i don't know, been sent to do some group anger management sessions and she couldn't have gone evil at all.

I was bored & got thinking and developed a theory for twp; that the academy is going to stop being "Shadowhunter" academy. like one of the greater themes in the modern timeline especially is blurring and eventually removing the line between Shadowhunters & the Downworld - something that really kinda starts in City of Glass with Luke convincing the Clave to allow Downworlder representatives on the Council. and now Luke's the Headmaster of the Academy in Exile so I just feel like it's the next logically step?
the Academy has always had a problem when is comes to anti-Downworlder sediment; we see it in 1899 with James & the 80s with the Circle & in 2008 with Simon. It's basically a breeding ground for it. part of fixing the problem could be opening the doors to Downworlders & put them on an equal playing field for once (I mean, look at the impact Simon had). Obviously curriculum would have to be specialised for different species but things like history wouldnt be.
like the only current Downworld equivalent is the Praetor Lupus, which was completely destroyed by Sebastian. yeah Maia's rebuilding but it's not her only responsibility, since she's also the leader of the Manhattan pack & the representative of the Council - also it would take decades to get the Praetor to what it once was. so what if Maia & Luke decide to combine them, since the missions of both are quite similar.
so like, any young (or recently turned) shadowhunter or downworlder can attend & learn about their world & their powers. how fitting would it be if Max could attend as a student & even do training if he wanted to but not be the only downworlder there. also I feel like a school would be really useful for warlocks in particular lmao. they're the most unorganised of the Downworld & their current system is "hope your parents are good and figure it out from there" (has famously not worked)

The latest chapter included many a bullshit and onward we go. We left Isabelle blackout drunk at Jordan's, Clary escaping Magnus' place via Portal, Simon at the Greenwich Hotel partaking in a job interview with Raphael who wants an indestructible bodyguard. Great. This chapter also greatly reveals how Clare sees the issues Clary faces in comparison to Isabelle's, and I am disgusted.
We now cut to Clary at Taki's waiting for Simon because it is the only Shadow World restaurant in the whole city of New York. Why visit any place else anyway? Simon arrives, his jokes don't land, and he gets concerned:
Tumblr media
→ As much so that it needs repetition.
→ The bell as a gift from the Seelie Queen is mentioned in the very first chapter and recapped there. It is even written: "Clary remembered the words of the faerie girl who had handed her the bell." Clary tells Simon about "Kaelie's visit to Luke and Jocelyn’s reception, and her promises to Clary about the Seelie Queen’s help" in the chapter 2 "Thorns" of this book.
Ample opportunity to mention it was Kaelie who gifted the bell on behalf of the queen instead of cramming that information right there as if the readers can't keep up. We know who she is, we know what was her role in this. Hence:
→ It was Kaelie, (the blue-eyed faerie waitress,) who looked at Clary and grinned, a superior grin...
As I said, it is unfortunate there is no place else to go where Kaelie can't show off her happiness over Clary's dismay. Because they serve blood there but apparently there is no place else in the New York that serves also blood
Tumblr media
But Simon isn't crying, even the edgy tears of blood. Clare has an annoying habit of delivering information with justifications that only weaken the purpose of delivering that information in the first place.
Tumblr media
True, but I love to assign blame, especially to Jace and Clary, because the writing sure does not do it.
Clary tells Simon of her grand plan of infiltrating with Sebastian and Jace. She reveals where she went off to after leaving Magnus' place: She went to steal the faerie rings (conveniently mentioned only in this book once they became relevant to the plot) from the Institute library. They then test them out.
Tumblr media
Brother Zachariah spoke to them in the previous chapter, it makes sense to call back to the similarity of that. But also now that Clare's intent on tying TID with TMI is more evident by the book, it also (to me) feels like forcing a mention of the characters or things from TID at every possible opportunity. Especially since Brother Zachariah is barely the first of Silent Brothers Clary has spoken to (or who have spoken to Clary).
→ the way she/they (as in everyone) heard the Silent Brothers → the way the Silent Brothers spoke
Tumblr media
What I don't understand and the writing never cares to explain in this moment is why Alec and Isabelle aren't included in this part of the plan. How I see it, they'd rather throw Clary at any opportunity of getting Jace back than worry for her. Nothing in their relationship (because it barely exists) would make them side with Simon and be apprehensive of her safety versus getting Jace back.
We then cut to Maia visiting Jordan, and everything is awful.
Tumblr media
Imagine making someone carrying a backpack of all things all about you.
Maia has arrived to Jordan's place to ask for help. Isabelle then pops up, and the three of them talk about the current situation with Luke and Jace. Maia delivers Isabelle a message from Magnus, asking Jordan to reach out to the Praetor Lupus.
Tumblr media
A werewolf dying is not an affair of the Clave.
Tumblr media
Not that long since they are already making out in a car in the next chapter. I remember Clary and Jace being the most difficult ones to read but no, everything to do with Jordan is just suffering.
Then Isabelle says: "I want my brother,” she said. “I want to see Alec." And Maia says: “Well, that’s good,” Maia said. “Because after Magnus called me, he sent a follow-up text. He said he had a feeling you’d be here, and he had a message for you. He wants you to go to his apartment in Brooklyn, right away.” This will be relevant just a bit from here.
We then cut to Isabelle arriving at Magnus' place.
Tumblr media
This reads weird. It's like three things loosely related to each other strung together. The pause if a bit iffy when 'though' appears as a subordinating conjunction in the middle of a sentence.
→ The warmth came from a fire leaping in the grated fireplace though there were no chimneys in the building, but the fire had (or did have) the blue-green tinge of enchanted flame.
→ The warmth came from a fire leaping in the grated fireplace. There were no chimneys in the building, but the fire had the blue-green tinge of enchanted flame.
It just seems too convoluted way of saying there was an enchanted fire in the fireplace that has no chimney leading out.
Tumblr media
Because Alec is barefoot (important detail) it is essential to mention what he is wearing. Also this book does this with basically everyone who appears for the first time.
MAGNUS. He was wearing what for Magnus was a somber ensemble—jeans and a black T-shirt with rivets around the collar and cuffs. + His hair was wet, dripping onto the shoulders of his white shirt and making it transparent. He wore jeans with holes in them and fraying hems + the canary yellow pajamas and green alien slippers with antennae
CLARY. She was wearing jeans and rubber-soled sneakers, and a soundless rune was carved into her ankle.
JORDAN. wearing a green shirt that hugged his leanly muscled body in all the right places and brought out the hazel color of his eyes. *barf* + Jordan stood behind her, wearing dark jeans and a black sweater half-zipped over a green T-shirt.
ISABELLE. Isabelle sat atop one of the boulders, wearing a long dress of bottle-green silk with an embroidered black and silver coat over it + She wore black suede knee-high boots, tight jeans, and a red silky top with her familiar red pendant around her throat
ALEC. He was wearing his usual ratty sweater and jeans, but a dark blue scarf that matched his eyes was wrapped around his throat + He wore a long leather duster open over a blue sweater
SEBASTIAN. He wore a white shirt, the sleeves pulled up + Sebastian had been wearing a long black wool trench coat that had looked expensive.
JACE. His hands were careless in the pockets of his jeans, his Marks visible through his white T-shirt. Over it was thrown an unfamiliar tan suede jacket that brought out the gold undertones to his skin. + Jace’s clothes had been clean, stylish, ordinary + He wore a dark blue sweater that made his hair look like sunlight.
MAIA. She was wearing jeans and a caramel-colored leather jacket, and her hair was pulled up behind her head with bronze chopsticks
CAMILLE. She wore a neat black suit now with high-heeled red shoes, and her hair spilled down her shoulders in waves and curls.
→ It's not wrong or any sort of error to describe what your characters are wearing, it shows the character's persona, but I feel like I am now constantly reading what everyone here is wearing any given day.
Tumblr media
Where Clare reveals the issues are hierarchical. Just in previous chapter 6 "No Weapon in this World" where they discuss Jocelyn and Isabelle going to the Iron Sisters, Magnus literally says:
"It's late, and we don't need to wake her up. Everyone needs rest. If I am to send any of you through to the Iron Sisters, it will be tomorrow.”
But then Maia tells Isabelle Magnus wants her there right away? Everyone needs rest, except Isabelle. Because Isabelle did not witness her 9-year-old little brother brutally murdered when she should've been the one to protect him (just weeks ago), doesn't have his brother missing and in a demonic bond with the enemy, doesn't have any problems that could even supersede whatever Clary is going through any given moment. A proper answer to Isabelle's question:
→ "I know, I'm sorry. But we do need you." (Because Alec just previous to this says, "Don’t go to pieces. We need you.”
Also great how Isabelle isn't afforded to "go to pieces" but Clary is allowed all the tears and temper tantrums in the world.
Tumblr media
→ The classic "As you know" when delivering information to the readers. Here Alec is delivering information they both have known for their whole lives basically. They don't need to explain this to each other. Also why do they only speak to women? They were all once regular Nephilim that spoke to also men. What is the reason for this?
→ Jocelyn's motivation for going is incredibly unclear. She isn't going for Jace because she doesn't give a crap about him aside from when it concerns Clary's happiness and Jace has barely made Clary's life happy with his antics. All I can assume is that she wants Sebastian dead for all he has done and she knows he'll do with the added bonus of not not killing Jace in the process.
→ Jocelyn is such a plot device. How come Jocelyn ever possessed one of the greatest magical books of all time? We don't know but the plot demands it. How come Jocelyn has visited the Adamant Citadel before and for what reason? No idea but she needs to go as a tour guide for Isabelle.
Tumblr media
Alec just said, "in the morning." ↑
Magnus takes Isabelle to her room and hilarity ensues.
Tumblr media
For someone who steals coffee and constantly changes his furniture in a whim, it's weird that Magnus can't magic himself proper curtain holders. Convenient for unfunny quips.
Tumblr media
→ Great how Alec's emotional life is common knowledge apparently?
→ How is the writing so self-aware at points but refuses to apply this logic to characters like Jace? Because bias, and Jace is worth the destruction of everyone else's happiness.
Tumblr media
PARABATAI? Parabatai. Parabatai? Parabatai.
Oh stooop, you're spoiling us with this much parabatai talk about Jace and Alec. But oh no, it's really not about Jace and Alec at all. It's another opportunity for Clare to flaunt Will and Jem and their bond (and make yet another TID reference). This in actuality has nothing more to do with Jace and Alec than having to mention their bond because parabatai exist again in the series.
Tumblr media
→ Fuck yeah there ain't! Finally Isabelle standing up for Alec. Now let's implement this to arguments with Jace and Clary as well.
→ Love and blood are not the same, said the Seelie Queen once. You think Isabelle of all people needs to ask Clary shit about this. Isabelle could say the same thing about Jace, that of course Jace loves her, she is his sister. And then there is no bullshit argument like this where everything once again revolves around Clary.
We cut to Clary at Luke's house, baiting Jace to come and get her. She tests out the faerie ring with Simon and they say their goodbyes for the time being. There's this part after they finish their talk:
And that was all. There was no click, as when you hung up a phone; Clary just sensed a severing of their connection, as if a cord had been cut inside her head. She wondered if this was what Alec meant when he talked about the breaking of the parabatai bond.
Yes, their parabatai bond is so shitty is might as well be equated to ending a faerie ring telephone call.
Cut to Simon arriving at Magnus' place also because that is were everyone is gathering in this chapter to snooze. He gets in the bed with Isabelle and makes important discoveries:
Tumblr media
Again, convenient magic does not act conveniently when it comes to repair work.
Then we cut back to Clary, and Jace arrives to take her.
Tumblr media
And honestly, from what I remember the whole book is going to feel like this endless long time with Jace and Clary's adventures with evil brother. With Clary leaving with Jace, the chapter ends and the first part of the book is finished. A positive note I can make is that at least the part one "No Evil Angel" is somewhat coherent part of the book and makes a clear cut between the beginning of the story and whatever bullcrap comes next.

Heir To The Lands Chapter 33
A Whirlwind Is Taking Over Masterpost
All of Dru's recently expanded friend group had gathered in her bedroom. Tomas went over some kind of list of necessities with Tavi, who had her hands on her hips. "I know I suck at packing, but I really thought of everything this time Tom-Tom." Zeynep giggled behind her as Tomas groaned. "How many times have I asked you not to call me that?" "As many times as I asked you the route." Tavi replied which only earned her another groan. Thais frowned at her and Tavi replied, "Tom-Tom is one of the biggest GPS bussinesses and is based in the Netherlands. Many a Dutch refer to the GPS system as a Tom-Tom. Much to the pain of many a Tom." "I hate the GPS jokes so much." He said, pulling his girlfriend into a dramatic embrace. She wrapped her arms around him, sending a look of warning to Tavi. She pouted and with a huff she went over Zeynep's bag. "Have you got any snacks other then sunflower seeds with you this time?" "I packed one of those biscuit packs that we always get at the Action, but I doubt Catarina will make the portal that far removed from Kit's residence though." Laura sat on Thais' bed quietly, sending some texts to her family because her grandmother would give her the biggest scolding ever if she disappeared from school grounds with no reason. A knock on the door was heard, and Catarina peeked her blue head into the room. "Good, you are all ready to go. I hope all of your parents are ready to yell at Luke, not me." Tavi and Dru both chuckled as the group grabbed their luggage, the bag where Shadowcat had been put was moving in a panic and Tavi hushed the creature. "It's okay, we're going back to Europe sweetie!" She cooed to the bag as Catarina went to put the Portal up.
Catarina had guided the group as quickly as Dimmet Tarn as possible, knowing Tessa could use the extra magic power to expand upon Dimmet Tarn. The group stood awkwardly as Dru was pulled into a tight hug by her older brother. "I was so scared that I lost you too!" He said as he squeezed the air out of her lungs. Dru whimpered with a loving smile as Kit and Jaime stood around just as awkwardly, not knowing how to break the ice with Dru's friends. But things would change quickly enough.
This was, because everything right now was happening in a whirlwind. Janus walked through Central Park and could tell things were in motion. Everything was too quiet. Whilst the entrance was in a quiet area and he did not expect to see any mundanes, there were no pixies or birds to be heard. He decided to move slower, allowing himself to focus on the tiniest of sounds and movements as he felt like he was walking into an ambush. It was because of this, that he managed to move away from a vein trying to latch onto his leg. He quickly turnt around just in time to see two werewolves jumping towards him. Usually, fighting off two werewolves was not much of a biggie to Janus, but these werewolves were highly trained. He wondered if they belonged to the Praetor Lupus, but he doubted they would allow themselves to be assisted by a faerie on a mission like this. Either Alec had ushered in a new age of cooperation, or they belonged to some gang of sorts organized by enemies of the Seelie Queen. Whichever was the case, Janus could not afford to ponder on it too long. He slashed at one werewolf who missed his blade in just the nick of time. From his other side, the second werewolf charged and Janus felt the floor underneath him grow more slippery, muddy. Damn Faerie magic, he cursed as he missed the second one's claw which only made a shallow slash near his eye. He lunged at the wolf, the two tumbling into the mud. "Benjamin now!" The man roared, knowing it was far too late. Janus mercilessly drove the blade into the werewolf's throat with the last thing he saw being his teary eyed younger brother who managed to snatch the bag just as Janus pulled out his blade.

( tw : murder, violence )
being  born  in  the  70s  was  a  wildly  different  era  to  today.  jordan  finds  some  amusement  in  the  things  that  have  come  back  into  popularity  from  his  childhood,  but  he’s  also  a  bitter  old  man  about  a  lot  as  well.  nyc  was  a  different  world  back  then,  a  world  where  he  was  a  shadowhunter  and  partnered  with  his  best  friend.  he  was  never  the  best  shadowhunter,  but  jordan  was  a  good  one.  he  did  his  duty  and  honored  his  vow  to  uphold  the  accords.
but  all  that  would  change  the  night  he  was  sent  to  deal  with  an  unruly  pack  of  werewolves  killing  innocents  in  the  streets.  nobody  else  was  free  to  go,  and  jordan  didn’t  want  to  wait  when  they  got  the  call.  he  left  alone,  which  would  be  the  mistake  to  change  his  life  for  good.  he’d  managed  to  kill  quite  a  few  wolves,  and  in  his  confidence  he  got  cocky.  this  cockiness  would  lead  to  him  getting  bitten  right  as  backup  arrived  and  finished  the  job.  he  was  lucky  enough  to  have  been  saved,  but  at  what  cost?  the  shadowhunters  he’d  fought  with  time  and  time  again  would  turn  their  backs  on  him,  and  he  was  left  in  the  streets  to  survive  his  wounds.
and  so  the  shadowhunter  would  become  a  werewolf.  his  first  change  was  brutal,  but  jordan  would  be  taken  under  the  paw  of  the  praetor  lupus.  he  could  no  longer  call  the  institute  home,  but  he  could  still  manage  to  serve  a  higher  purpose  as  a  guardian.  he  was  taken  to  the  praetor  house,  trained  and  taught  how  to  become  someone  to  help  fellow  wolves  in  his  situation.
he’s  been  sent  to  rome  for  several  reasons,  but  jordan  also  has  a  personal  mission  to  destroy  the  mortal  instruments.  he  thinks  they  are  too  powerful,  and  that  the  clave  has  no  business  with  them.  truly,  he’s  a  bitter  man  when  it  comes  to  his  former  life,  but  he’s  also  old  enough  now  to  have  mellowed  out  a  bit.
𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
on main : former parabatai, wolf that changed him
exes  :  nothing  serious,  at  least  for  jordan  it  never  was,  but  they  definitely  had  some  fun,  perhaps  some  mess,  and  definitely  some  history.
will they / won't they  :  jordan  hasn’t  been  in  a  serious  relationship  in  ages,  he  doesn’t  think  he  lives  the  lifestyle  for  it  nor  does  he  think  he’d  be  a  good  partner.  this  person  and  he  have  a  lot  of  chemistry,  but  he’s  being  stubborn.  (  would  prefer  to  write  this  out  before  we  commit,  to  test  the  chemistry  !  )
partner  :  the  person  who  has  come  to  rome  with  him,  also  a  wolf  in  the  praetor  lupus.  they  work  well  together  and  they  call  him  out  for  his  bullshit  behavior  when  he’s  being  an  asshole.

Hey can you elaborate a bit on what exactly is a part of the law about child protection and does it extend to downworlder kids as well? In tlil we saw how all these orphaned kids were there. Does this law say anything about how they should be given a safe place?
the law about child protection has multiple clauses (which include neglect and abuse and prevention of forced training and access to education etc).
i actually didn't write it down when I wrote the chapter but I will have to since it plays a big role in lbaf v with Lance and the way in which he is treated in the shadow world (mavid about to set the clave on fire oof)
but I can tell you that is definitely includes downworld children, of course. any law that is created by the clave (unless it is explicitly for nephilim) applies to all parts of the council and shadow world as mentioned in the accords. for eg, the hate speech bill applies to both nephilim and downworlders (meaning they can't say shit to each other or even within their own fractions).
so, yes. it does talk about the abandonment or abuse of children in general. (i want to add that it was definitely amended after the Devlin debacle to offer better protection for children with the sight)
I'm assuming the clave is not responsible for downworld children (because it's tricky for eg like in a situ with nico) but it is responsible for holding the downworld leaders/organizations (such as the warlock council or praetor lupus) accountable if they fail to do their jobs to protect these children.
im so excited to jump into this again in lbaf v. it's so ironic how the child protection bill came to force because of David and it is about to be amended because of his son :))

@misteriios - Kyle & Cora
Kyle didn't had the Praetor Lupus in the city or neither Maia was around, he was definitely a packless wolf at that moment. His Praetor pendant wasn't with him, probably with Simon, so it definitely made him look like a lone wolf. The scent of another wolf fill up his nostrils and he waited till the other got closer. "Sorry, buddy, but I'm not on the mood for a fight tonight".

Hey, I really love your take on some of more controversial aspect of tlh. I enjoy cassandra books, but I kind of feel that dawnwolders are incovinient to her, because she do not make any of them main character anymore. The only dawnwolders that are main characters are half-nephilim or no longer ones. Tlh do not have any and in my opinion won't twp have one ( ash doesn't count as he is some sort of hybrid of demon, fearie and nephilim). This is especially noticable in james case. The one that train james was not warlock but silent brother nor he seek to connect to dawnworlders community (his parabait is the one who fit more with them) also tessa only acted as warlock between her marriages. Vampires have not been present in the plot for 7 books.as a characters that have any influance on it). Luke and maya are the only warewolfs that are in more then 2 book. The only ones to have some page time are fearie and even then it is not much outside some ship drama( I really do not care about kierarktina and cristina, because cristina literally despait claiming that she wanted to help fearie didn't do anything for them but cry pity until she become atracted to mark and kieran. Then she helped only them). Do you think we will have at least one new main character who is dawnwolder in twp, like full blood dawnwolder not kit or ash that are part nephilim?
Hii!
Thinking back on it, this has been rather continuous theme from the very beginning of the whole chronicles. Magnus has been the only Downworld character that's been consistently featured in almost every book and every series, and you can see that Clare enjoys writing him. But let's consider someone like Maia who becomes a major side character in TMI. Maia first appeared in City of Ashes, because that random nameless mention in City of Bones doesn't count, but her story was aimless.
Her point of views were unnecessary and did not contribute to the story at all. The narrative and as such the cast treat her terribly, and even though the narrative in City of Ashes prefers us to think that she’s an essential character, it still fails to conclude her story. She just disappears. She serves a plot point and anything beyond that is forgotten as inessential. City of Glass has barely anything to do with her, and in City of Fallen Angels her role in it is as essential as that of, say, Alec, which is not at all. Her impact on the plot is minimal if even that.
Of course, there is Jordan who arrives to introduce Praetor Lupus, because Clare managed to concoct another concept to tie The Infernal Devices to The Mortal Instruments and actually work on the worldbuilding, but why is it all so minor compared to the focus Maia and Jordan's relationship receives. A relationship that begins with no point and ends with no point.
Luke, for one, is there for the connection to Clary and Jocelyn and acts as the eyes through which the past and truth is eventually revealed because Clary herself is (naturally) disconnected from the Shadow World. But to be honest, I don't know if this is an issue of these characters in TMI being Downworlders or that they simply fall into the same role as every other character that is not Jace or Clary. Because no one else has any business with the main plot for a major part of those books.
But with The Last Hours, the Downworlders just act as the backdrop to the "forbidden" parties the Nephilim characters attend in Hell Ruelle. They assist the plot development, some are comic relief, but there's no major character that is Downworlder (aside from Magnus but at this point he doesn't count). The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices probably featured more Downworld characters, The Dark Artifices somewhat as well, but none that was new or major. Malcolm was the villain, Magnus is obligated feature, whatever faerie there is is to be vague and not give straight answers as to the plot that concerns the Nephilim characters.
It's not as surprising that Downworld characters are so sidelined when the worldbuilding is basically in its infancy still. Clare somehow thought that it is realistic that New York vampire clan rules over the rest of the world, that there are no vampire characters, factions, inner politics at all. Similarly to the werewolves. It's a very tiny circle that even gets room on the pages. Now that Raphael as the only major vampire character is gone, Lily has taken his place and serves the sam role as Maia does for the werewolves.
Now that you mentioned Cristina, I kinda laughed because I didn't realize how little she did in the end actually do. Her ambitions were great but in the end she found herself in a relationship with an Unseelie king and a half-faerie Shadowhunter. Regarding The Wicked Powers, I don't think Clare is going to come up with any major character that is fully Downworlder because the only one she can consistently manage is Magnus.
