Last winter my friend Justin and I visited Plains, Georgia to see the hometown of President Jimmy Carter. The town, on a January Sunday afternoon was a sleepy place, a scene perfectly at home in a To Kill a Mockingbird sort of world. The town had a calm that felt comforting, like this is a place that is home to an unassuming sort of history. Proud of its hometown boy, a man that went from peanut farmer to an international stage to return back to his hometown to lead Sunday school at the church down the street and next to a cotton field. The town felt like a place similar to our own small town roots.
