A fun thing you can do in the first Dragon Quest is take Princess Gwaelin to an inn after you save her from the Green Dragon and are carrying back to the castle. If you do, this exchange with the innkeeper happens.

For comparison, this is what normally happens when you sleep at an inn.

It’s just one of the things that gives the original Dragon Quest its own charm.

I went into this expecting mostly blondes but actually there’s just as many redheads

I know their names weren’t super important aspects of gameplay but @ Capcom’s Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins: you seriously named her “Princess Prin-Prin”??? Most of the rest are just random non-made-up girls’ names but you couldn’t even name her Elisa or Sue or Annabella or anything, just “Prin-Prin”. Top: Pauline, Annabelle, Jennifer, Madonna, Marian, Jessica, Peach/Toadstool; middle: Gwaelin, Sherry, Silvia, Zelda, Prin-Prin; bottom: Paula, Tawna, Maria, What’s-Her-Name, Amy(-Rose), Zelda again

Episode 05: Gliding Across the River

Hamlin: Use the MIRROR OF RA on the mutt and Princess Gwen is restored and joins the party.

Wind Tower: Get the CLOAK OF WIND (put it on to use it) [video missing exact location of the cloak]. Dragon's Horn: Use the CLOAK OF WIND to glide across the river.

Lianport: East across the sea is the Kingdom of Alefgard, (where Erdrick and Princess Gwaelin came from), king of Tantagel has disappeared, save a girl by fighting Gremlins, grandpa gives SHIP, the pirate ship Relentless sank with a lot of treasure on it.

Tantagel Castle: A resident had a vision of Erdrick's descendants coming to help them, the king hid himself to escape Hargon's wrath. The pirate ship sank to the north.

SUMMARY: Gwaelin learns how long she'd been captive. The art of conversation is explored. Music, of a sort, occurs. 

"Thou never hadst companions on thy quest? Not a one?"

The corner of Alef's mouth quirked. "Most of thy subjects, Princess, loveth their lives enough not to throweth them away."

"But not thee," Gwaelin felt compelled to point out.

"Not me," he said simply, as if it really was that simple. And maybe to him, it was.

"Yet thou hast traveled all over Alefgard." His armor was Rimuldaran; his shield Garinham-make. Who even knew where he himself had come from—anywhere, nowhere. Impossible Alef, who sprang from the dirt full-formed and ready to save the world. "Thou must have friends all over the isles."

He snorted. "Allies, mayhap. Opportunistic shopkeeps willing to sell me arms at extravagant prices." A particularly wide puddle commanded his full attention for a moment, and as he hopped over it, Gwaelin had a momentary sense of weightlessness. "Yet not a soul with whom to converse."

"Nor have I had anyone these many—" She swallowed, hard, "—months. So I understand thy loneliness well." Something inside Gwaelin's ribcage tugged, hard. But maybe it was just Alef's foot finding solid earth once more.

Alef frowned at a rock on the ground. "I spake not of loneliness."

"Thou didst not need to."

One moment she was tending to some tulips and the other she was greeted by a boy similar in age. It would seem as though he somehow got through the thick rosebush wall that blocked the gardens from the common land.

“Oh goodness, are you alright? You have a cut on your arm!” She cried worriedly.
