so i thought the mysterious stomach problems i wake up with most mornings were just anxiety (and it's definitely anxiety don't get me wrong) but after some unintentional trial and error apparently it's also. the pillow i've been sleeping on for 80 thousand years

#my mom has GERD and i got my anxiety from her i should have known this would come for me #(im getting silent acid reflux every single night bc my head isnt elevated enough and my body hates me) #fortunately i already have a mostly new pillow around. unfortunately i havent been using it because its a fucking BRICK #itll probably be fine once i break it in but that takes like 1-2 months and theres a reason ive slept with this current pillow for forever. #ive taken it with me on a plane. that is how badly i sleep when i dont have this specific texture under my head . #i think i can just....put it on top of the new one bc it squishes so much......but it still has to break in :( #anyway hi :) #alex lore

unfortunately my notes are full of enough stories of GI misery to last a lifetime so I'm gonna have to do the humane thing and put this post down for my own sanity lol. however let me leave you with a tidbit of wisdom from my gastroenterologist, a kind and intelligent man who I lovingly refer to as Dr. Poop:

IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion!!! what this means is that it's not a good idea to assume your stomach problems are caused by IBS because IBS is, by definition, a diagnosis reserved for cases where ofher probable causes have been ruled out. if you don't rule out those other causes, the symptoms you attribute to IBS may very well be due to something else entirely—and gonna get worse if you don't figure it out, but it's also gonna get better if you do.

I've been walking around for years thinking I had IBS (that's what I thought when I initially made this post) but turns out I have fucking crohn's disease!!! and if Dr. Poop hadn't convinced me to get it checked out in the first place, I probably would've kept suffering for years until something got bad enough to send me to the hospital. if you are able to see a doctor and prove your symptoms a bit it is always worth it.

P.S. I am not usually an herbal bitch but peppermint tea is awesome for really bad clenching-type pain because it relaxes your gut muscles. peppermint in capsules too. the flip side of this is that relaxing your gut muscles can make GERD symptoms worse (if you have issues with that) so you might wanna keep an alka-seltzer nearby just in case.

P.P.S. since going on crohn's medication (mesalamine ftw) I have actually been able to resume eating a reasonable amount of junk food without too much hastle lol. ironically I've had the most trouble with veggie tofu bowls because eating too much fiber or too much protein in one sitting upsets the beast but I crushed two pop-tarts like it was nothing

i stopped taking any gummy vitamins years ago because i got a free trial of consumerlab.com to look up which vitamins weren't secretly sawdust and basically everything they had said "quality control and consistency on gummy vitamins is garbage, sometimes there's nothing in them and other times there's way more than there's supposed to be". so like. it's not just a melatonin thing. something about the process of making gummies makes consistency an absolute crapshoot. if you currently take gummy vitamins because you can't handle pills it's probably a good idea to see if you can switch to chewables instead.

(i am aware that the overall usefulness of vitamins/supplements is scientifically questionable but the list of foods that don't trigger either my gerd or my ibs is so short i like to take precautions, don't @ me about my decision to waste money on expensive pee)

favourite or most interesting wenglish quirks non-welsh people might not know about?

I have no idea what people would be likely to know about or not, so I'm just going to list a bunch, I think.

Inversion! I.e the thing Yoda does! Welsh allows a degree of syntactic fluidity for emphasis, and Wenglish carries this over. "Look at Boris Johnson. An absolute clown, that man is." "I saw EEAAO on the weekend! Magical, it was, just brilliant." This one sometimes can sound almost... wrong, actually, when used by an actual Welsh speaker. A totally normal sentence I have heard my husband say is "So cute, the cat!" instead of "The cat is so cute!" He once looked at a Pomeranian and said to me "So small, the dog!"

Doubling up on the verb to be! Similar to 'innit', but... more. "I'm going to give him a piece of my mind, I am." "He's all tired out, he is." She's been on the go all day, she has." Sometimes this becomes inversion if the speaker drops the first part. So, that last one might be "Been on the go all day, she has."

Double dipping with adjectives! Specifically, adjectives that mean the same thing. English, being a Frankenstinian mash up of eight others, has a much bigger vocabulary than Welsh, and Welsh speakers in the 1700s being forced to assimilate were fascinated by it. So "There he goes, driving around in his big huge car" - a totally normal and not redundant description in Wenglish.

Double dipping with nouns! Same reason. "Whose coat is that jacket?" "Whose shoes are those boots?"

The negative question! I love this one. When asking a shopkeeper, you might say "Have you got any milk?" Not in Wenglish! In Wenglish you say "You haven't got any milk, have you?" (Grammatically, the correct answer to that is probably "Why, don't you want any?", but in reality the answer is "Yes we do" and that's linguistically correct.) Something something Welsh people expect to be disappointed something something.

Expanded words! 'Where' is usually 'where to'. "Where to am I going?" "Where to am I taking the kids?" "Where to have you put Mam Gu's medicine?" Sometimes it can be 'where by', "Where by does she live in Cardiff?"

'Do' gets added in before verbs in some parts of the south east. This comes from a method of Welsh verb shortening, actually. 'Cerddais i' means 'I walked' - 'nes i gerdded' means the same thing, but literally is 'I did walk'. And that's how they roll in Abertillery! "Whenever I go to town I do buy a cake." "Gareth do play rugby on the weekend". (For clarity's sake, that last one would otherwise be 'Gareth plays rugby on the weekend.')

'Look' and 'see' as verbal tags! Used at the end of a sentence for emphasis. "He's done fucked it up, look." "It's easier not to bother, see."

And a whole bunch of Welsh loanwords that get sprinkled in. Plus some English ones that we liked and used indiscriminately; the biggest and best example of that is 'tidy', which is the most overworked word in all of Wenglish. How much did you sell your car for? A tidy amount. Did she hand in the wallet she found? Yeah, she's tidy. How was your blind date? Tidy, yeah, might go for a second with him. Did you enjoy your meal? It was tidy, yeah.

Welsh ones:

Dwt (n) or dwti (adj). Very tiny. "He's a dwt of a boy." "Look at the kittens! I love the little dwti one."

Cwtch, my beloved. Best word. Closest English analogue is 'hug', which we also use, but a cwtch has connotations of being a little fluffy animal tucked cozy and safe into a comfy little space all happy and warm. Can be a noun (a cwtch), a verb (cwtch him up all nice) or an adjective (I love this room, it's cwtchy). There is safety, security and comfort to a cwtch. Lesser used, but it also applies to a method of wrapping your baby into your arm with a shawl (traditional Welsh childcare method: baby stays warm, your arm doesn't get tired, and you keep one hand free), and the small cupboard under the stairs.

Bach - small. Used as a term of endearment. "How are you, bach?" Generally used by someone older to someone younger.

Byt/byti - mate. Possibly where the American English 'buddy' comes from. Used like bach, but between peers rather than older to younger.

Titles. Especially for grandparents! We're still recovering from the lost generation of the seventies and eighties, so it's not uncommon for people to have Welsh speaking grandparents who didn't pass on the language but use the titles. Mam-gu and Tad-cu in the south (abbreviated to Gu and Cu), Nain and Taid in the north. But also Mam instead of Mum.

That's all I can think of offhand, anyway! There will definitely be more.

Here's the list of conditions doctors have gaslit me about over the years. By that i mean, i complain of matching symptoms and ask them to test me for these, but they blow me off, tell me it's just anxiety, and refuse to test me until i eventually end up in the ER:

Tonsilitis. First doc said it was "anxiety", second said "just a cold", then finally got diagnosed weeks later when my airway closed up and oxygen dropped. This one still floors me. I had it for 3 months. Simple steroid injection fixed it in 3 hours.

POTS. "Anxiety".

A body temp of 95. "Your thermometer is broken". I used 3 different thermometers, all read 95 and i was shaking so violently i couldn't stand. My temp would drop like this randomly, but every time i went in they'd catch it at 96 and tell me "some people just run low, if it was 95 you'd be dead"...finally caught it at the ER, and even then they refused to believe me when i said it was accurate, blamed broken equipment, and brought out another thermometer to confirm. 🙄

UTI. "Anxiety" and "dehydration ". Or they'd say "you just had a test 2 weeks ago, you don't need another one". Went out of network, got tested by a new doc, and sure enough...

C.difficile infection. "Anxiety", "IBS", "bad diet". I suffered for weeks, dropped to 90lbs, went to urgent care 3 times telling them it was probably cdiff, only for them to keep blowing me off. Finally screamed at the bitch doc that i won't exit the building until she tests me for cdiff. She was like "i keep telling you you're too young to have that, but fine, if you're going to throw a tantrum about it 🙄"...same doc calls me 2 hours later, "you have cdiff, go pick up your prescription lol". Never apologized, never took responsibility for my suffering.

Hypothyroidism. "Anxiety", "depression", "you just need to exercise more", "you look fine".

Gut dysbiosis. "Anxiety", "IBS".

GERD. "Anxiety".

Colitis. "Anxiety", "IBS".

Cluster headaches. "Anxiety", "stress".

Aerobic vaginitis. "Anxiety", "hygiene issue". They kept testing me for STDs and pregnancy despite me repeatedly telling them it was a bacterial infection and only a microscopy will pick it up. They kept saying "nope, no infection, you're just thinking too hard about it"...2 YEARS later, finally got a doc to give me the proper test and by then the infection was severe. Previous docs kept gaslighting me, telling me "that test doesn't exist, if it's not an STD then infection isn't possible "...fucking idiots. An actual OBGYN included, she was useless. It was a random urgent care doc who knew what test i was talking about and he did it, no problem.

For some reason, i had to fight with them for weeks, months, or years to get them to test me for each of these things. Why. Whyyyyyyy is every diagnosis such a battle. Is it my shitty insurance? Is it misogyny? Ageism? Doctor laziness? Local medical system collapse?

I'm so fucking over it dude. Sorry, just needed to rant.

I’m sorry if this is personal but I saw you mentioned you had a gallbladder surgery. I have gallstones. My doctor told me he didn’t want to remove them because some people live their whole lives just fine with gallstones and he wasn’t convinced the gallstones are my main problem. He recommended me to a neuropsychologist instead for anxiety. I can live a pretty much normal life (although normal for me means very lowkey introvert cozy hobbies type of life). I’m not in pain 24/7. Although from time to time I feel discomfort. I don’t really know how to describe it. It’s kind of like GERD perhaps. Although my gut issues have improved since I focused on dealing with my anxiety and watching my diet. Although I’m wondering if having my gallstones removed would make life even easier. So I just wanted to ask what made you decide to get a gallbladder surgery? And how’s life after the surgery?

So! I’d had gallstones for years & I would very occasionally get an attack, be uncomfortable for a few hours & then move on. However, one time it did lead to pancreatitis which can be quite serious (but I was very much fine - it was a mild case, I didn’t have to be hospitalized, just on a clear liquid diet at home for 2 weeks & doctors appointments every day for blood work).

What made me “decide” to get my gallbladder out was that when I was pregnant with my 2nd son I had a VERY bad attack - my husband found me laying on the floor of my office while I had my older so (who was only 2 at the time) in the playroom (with the gates closed). I was watching my son on the monitor we have in the playroom so I could see him but I was in so much pain I couldn’t even sit up and every time my son touched me it felt like I was being stabbed so I had to get away from him.

My husband took me to the hospital & I started vomiting - and again during all this I was 23 weeks pregnant.

They got worried that I would get pancreatitis again since I had a history of it and my doctor said if I ended up with pancreatitis while pregnant I would probably end up in the ICU because it’s incredibly dangerous to pregnant women.

So they took it out! They didn’t do it emergently - it was maybe a week or so between the day I was really sick and the surgery. But they definitely didn’t really give me much choice in the matter. It was like “do this and know you’ll be fine or don’t do it and potentially end up in the ICU or worse”

barret's esophagus is basically a condition that later down the line can turn into esophageal cancer and it's one of the causes of prolonged acid reflux (gerd)

Oh I'm right there with you, I've been having these issues for months now and it feels SO scary. Unfortunately the answer to both of those questions is... Sort of? Not really? I had chest pains like ten minutes ago LMAO. I've narrowed it down a little bit but I'm still waiting on some appointments.

I saw a cardiologist and had a heart monitor on for two weeks and then got an ultrasound done, both of which confirmed there is Nothing wrong with my heart at all. So like. That's good? I guess? At least the chances of a heart attack are probably pretty low???

The other two big possibilities in my case are anxiety and GERD. Maybe both at the same time. Anxiety and acid reflux are apparently linked to each other and I have a history of stomach problems (gastroparesis being the big one), and it makes me Very susceptible to heartburn and acid reflux. It can cause chest pains bad enough that it's like.. mimicking heart attack symptoms, so that's fun!!! I have an appointment with a stomach doctor but it's not for several months so I just get to deal with it I guess.

I do believe a large part of my chest pains is anxiety though. My anxiety spiraled out of control in like, november of last year and it just hasn't gotten better, and that's when I started getting chest pains a lot more frequently. While they can sometimes happen randomly, I do notice chest pains get worse if I'm having an anxiety spike or I'm on my way to a panic attack, which is.. like a daily occurrence for me these days.

If it's at all possible I'd recommend seeing a cardiologist, just to make super sure yknow? Otherwise, if you struggle with anxiety or stomach problems, it very well might be one (or both) of those, which are a lot less scary.

Aldi Chocolate Brioche 9/10 - Portable, not too messy, can be eaten even when I’m moving around, tastes amazing, doesn’t go bad too fast cause I cant eat a loaf super fast. Wish there was more chocolate

Kroger Chocolate Brioche 7/10 - wayyyy too messy, but the chocolate to bread ratio is great. Too messy to eat in the work pantry comfortably, but it tastes so good you cant care (until you look at your face covered in chocolate and it hits maybe we need something cleaner)

Sweet Red Bean Paste Bun from an Asian Grocer in my Area 8/10 - VERY TASTY I LOVE RED BEAN PASTE!!! I had to cut them in half cause I cant eat that big a bun (I got bad GERD man) and they went a little stale. It’s my fault but that’s ok. I ate them anyway and they were still tasty. Not gonna come back to this one soon since the nearest Asian grocer is 1 hour away from me and it has to be an occasion that I go and spend a bunch of money. And I will spend WAYYY too much money

Off Brand Uncrustables from Target 6/10 - Tasty!! Better then a regular Uncrustable Love me a good peanut butter and jelly!! Great for when you have the energy of a Halloween Zombie, but only 4 in a pack so it’s not really worth it. Not worth the longer drive to Target but if I’m there I get them. Less sugar too, which is good for me (diabetic who probably should have sugar free jelly)

I’d like to introduce everyone to my #1 idols that I’ve loved since July 2018: Marcus & Martinus

When I joined tumblr I noticed that there weren’t any Marcus & Martinus tags or posts about them — which makes sense since their fans were pretty young since the beginning of their career so they probably didn’t know tumblr existed so their fans are mainly on Instagram, Twitter and I think even Facebook — but after I did some digging I found that some tags actually did exist and there were M&M fans on here but they haven’t been active in years so I would like to introduce the rest of Tumblr to Marcus & Martinus.

Marcus and Martinus Gunnarsen are identical twin brothers who were born on February 21, 2002 in Elverum, Norway and they currently live in Trofors, Norway. They have a little sister named Emma who also makes her own music, their parents’ names are Gerd-Anne (mom) and Kjell-Erik (dad), and they have a golden retriever named Tico that they got in, I believe, 2019.

Their career started when they won Melodi Grand Prix Junior in 2012 (which is like the Norwegian X-Factor for kids ages 8-15) on September 1. MMers (Marcus & Martinus fans/stans) call this day International MMers’ Day because it was the day that M&M’s career started — although it doesn’t really make sense that it’s called MMers Day bc it’s not originally about their fans, it’s about Marcus & Martinus starting their career as singers and it would make more sense to call it International Marcus & Martinus Day or sth.

They are called M&M for short, and if you were in the fandom in 2016, they were called Mac & Tinus or Mactinus for a long time but their fans don’t call them that anymore (it’s a bit of a cringey nickname imo and I’m allowed to say that btw bc I started calling them that when I first joined the fandom).

Their first album called “Hei” (which means “Hi” or “Hello”) was released in February 2015 and all of the songs are in Norwegian and the album included their first song that they won MGPjr with, “To Dråper Vann” which is “Two Drops of Water” in English. Their second album was their first English album called “Together” and it was released in November 2016. Their third album, “Moments” was released in November 2017 and was also in English. Basically, ever since they made “Together”, all of their songs have been in English.

In 2018 they released a single called “Invited” and that was my very first time experiencing the excitement of my favorite artist releasing a new song. In the end of the music video for “Invited” they teased that the next song that would be released would be called “Lie To You” and they later performed this song live at a concert and that is the only recording of the song that we have to this day because guess what? It never got released!! Marcus recently explained that the song didn’t get released because something happened to the file??

On January 24, 2019 the boys told their fans in an Instagram livestream that they would not be going on tour in 2019 because they would be focusing on making new music but they would still have big concerts in other countries. That year, they released an Extended Playlist called “Soon”. The name of the EP was an inside joke between them and their fans because whenever their fans asked them when new music was coming they always responded with “soon” or “very soon”.

In 2020 they released two singles, “Love You Less” and a Christmas song, “It’s Christmas Time” but they did not release any more albums probably because of covid and the fact that it takes a lot of work and effort to make an album.

In 2021 they were featured on Stig Brenner’s song called “Miserabel” which is a Norwegian song and after that they released two singles “Belinda” and “Feel” where they collaborated with other people on. In 2022, before releasing their next single, Marcus & Martinus participated in Sweden’s masked singer competition and won. I don’t know much about it bc I didn’t really pay much attention to it cuz it didn’t really pique my interest that much.

Their next single released in May 26, 2022 was “When All The Lights Go Out” after deleting or archiving all of their 3,000+ Instagram posts and blacking out their profile picture and putting the words “We are not the same” in their bio. I can tell you that the entire fandom freaked out when they deleted all of their posts because all of those posts recorded the milestones in Marcus & Martinus’s journey in their career and those posts had sentimental value and nostalgia for MMers. I personally still hold out hope that they just archived their posts and that they’ll put them back up but that hope is quickly diminishing.

On June 11 or 12, 2022 they had a concert in Drøbak Norway and sang unreleased songs and the performances of those songs were filmed by fans and posted on YouTube. The unreleased songs have been named “One Good Reason”, “Serve It Up”, “It’s Gone”, “We Are Not The Same”, and my personal favorite, “Love Flow”.

On September 9, 2022 they released their cover of “Wicked Game” by Emika.

On October 21, 2022 “Gimme Your Love” was released. The song was released on Spotify at midnight in Norwegian time (yeah, the same day Midnights by Taylor Swift was released). They had worked on the song with a DJ and producer named Medun.

Finally, Marcus & Martinus’s most recent single, “247365” came out July 13, 2023

Oh, also most people who aren’t fans might recognize Marcus & Martinus from their old Musical.lys that they made with their song “Heartbeat” from the “Together” album and their music video for their song “Girls” from that same album. Today they get comments on their tiktoks from non-fans saying things like “I forgot about you guys”, “Weren’t you 14?”, and “you guys are still here??”.

I would like to add that after getting to know them for 4 years based on what they have shown to their fans, Marcus & Martinus are the most unproblematic celebrities I know. They are genuinely nice guys who support and accept minorities and they are very kind and nice to their fans while setting boundaries with them.

I cannot say the same for some of the fans, though. Throughout the years of M&M’s career, all of the drama that has occurred was started by their fans. In 2016 they made a big deal out of the boys kissing their fans on the cheek and vice versa when taking photos with them (they were 14 at the time and their fans were about that age or younger) and in 2017 when Marcus & Martinus became friends with Lisa and Lena who are German twin sisters that also make music together, some MMers attacked them thinking that they were in a relationship with them. Some MMers have also attacked other people in the fandom who are editors for getting so many likes, reposts, and a follow from M&M (aka “notices”). Not all MMers are like that, though. I personally haven’t encountered many MMers that started drama, I’ve only seen the normal MMers post about it on their stories.

Marcus & Martinus both share a love for football (soccer). I think their dad taught them how to play and they have been playing the sport on the side of their singing career for pretty much their whole lives. In an interview, when asked what they would be if they weren’t singers they said they would be football players because they really love it.

Both Marcus & Martinus have been single for their whole lives so far and in pretty much every interview they’ve ever been in they’ve been asked if they have girlfriends and they have said no every time.

That day Marcus posted a picture on his Instagram story of him with a girl and tagging her with a heart “<3”

That day the fandom EXPLODED with people who were happy for them and people who started hating on the girl, Nora which caused the people who supported the relationship to post on their stories telling the - for lack of a better word - haters that Marcus is allowed to have a personal life and he doesn’t have to explain anything to us (his fans). At this time, the fans were not 100% sure that they were in a relationship bc Marcus didn’t explicitly say that she was his girlfriend in his post so they were theorizing that they could either be dating or they could just be close affectionate friends.

The next day it was confirmed that Nora and Marcus were in fact dating when M&M’s team posted a screenshot of an article talking about the new relationship on their profile. Since then, there have been so many MMers supporting Marcus’s relationship by leaving positive comments on Nora’s Instagram and editors making edits of her.

Martinus is, however, still single as of right now.

just some life updates, for my lovely followers and mutuals that still keep up with me! it's very long, a lot has happened in a very short amount of time (all of this happened from mid-september-now)

!!!TMI warning!!! i had to get a pap smear done, and it went very poorly. i know i've had a pap smear done before and i realized during the procedure that it's a complete blank spot in my memory (probably because it was so painful and traumatic). the procedure this time around was extremely painful, probably the most painful thing i've experienced. my therapist says the fact that i still remember the procedure is an amazing sign of progress, even if it doesn't feel like it

my brother broke up with his girlfriend. which doesn't sound like a huge deal, but those two had been dating for 10 years. she and i weren't particularly close, but she was the only one in our family that ever recognized how he treated me. she was kind of like... a buffer between me and him because she always told him to leave me alone. i'm very happy that she left the relationship, i'm sure it wasn't healthy, but it's left me more of a target for him than ever. so going home is a bit of a nightmare

i had a long talk with my mom about mental health when i went home for Thanksgiving, and i've realized that i don't want an apology from her. she's not emotionally intelligent to give me an apology that actually means anything, because she can never understand the damage that she's done to me. i don't want an apology, i just want her to understand

after getting home from thanksgiving, i got my identity stolen (and this was 2 weeks after my credit and debit cards were stolen and had to be replaced). someone in my system that doesn't understand identity security gave away a lot of information that they shouldn't have, and scammers ended up opening a credit card under my personal information. luckily we were able to get the card shut down before they spent anything, but it took 4 days of Vex (our financial organizer) tracking down the card and sitting on hold with a dozen banks and making sure our credit was frozen afterwards. our info is out there forever now, all due to this stupid illness

then, a day after Vex finished solving this, a friend that i've been trying to talk to while maintaining boundaries/distance sprung a very stressful emotional conversation of me, which i've asked her not to do multiple times. so i had to restate my boundaries again, which i was not in the headspace to do at the time

then, on top of all that, i'm going home in less than a week to stay with my family for a week to celebrate Christmas

Because of all the stress, I'm currently very ill. I have GERD and Barrett's esophogus, which is an illness that flares up during times of stress. I'm on a lot of medication at the moment to keep it at bay, but i apparently got so stressed that the symptoms totally overrode the medication. it caused me to be unable to sing for almost 2 weeks (which as a vocal teacher, adds even more stress) and I was pretty much unable to eat or drink anything without getting ill. I'm starting to feel a little better, but all my doctors said i should consider taking some time off work to get my personal stress levels under control
