Cereseto and Waitzkin analysed 10 quantitative indicators of human wellbeing for the year 1980, including life expectancy and the adult literacy rate. They found that at any given level of GDP per capita, socialist states tend to have superior outcomes to capitalist states. Similarly, in his detailed study of health indicators around the world, Navarro concluded that socialist countries generally had superior population health standards. Navarro noted that socialist China had much higher life expectancy than capitalist India, while Cuba outperformed the rest of Latin America. ‘This international survey shows that at least in the realm of underdevelopment, where hunger and malnutrition are part of the daily reality, socialism rather than capitalism is the form of organisation of production and distribution of goods and services that better responds to the immediate socioeconomic needs of the majority of these populations’.

How culture affects business
I am from a small city of himmatnagar. Few days ago I was having a small chit-chat with my neighbour who is into the gold business he is from rajasthan but from past 100 years they are residing in himmatnagar . His greatgrandfather shifted to himmatnagar for economical purposes so they are a very big extended family like a very big kutumb. Everyone of them are in the same gold business so we can say that 50-60 percent of jewellery showrooms/shop are of their community/family . They are traditionally in this business and also he personally owns 3 shops so during the discussion about the changing course of business and market in this times and he is also planning to open a jewellery showroom one of the biggest in himmatnagar. So I asked him why will people come to your showroom to buy the jewellery and not go to the nearby big cities like ahmedabad and gandhinagar because as I have seen most good to do family do most of the jewellery and cloths shopping from ahmedabad for functions like marraige or babyshower. Like last year my cousin sister got married she did 95 percent of her shopping from ahmedabad or online. In the past also there were so many marraiges and babyshowers like function in my extended family and I have seen that most of the shopping being done from ahmedabad. Thats why I got the curiosity that if he will invest so much in some business like that how will he get cutomers as now a days people want diversity like so many designs and colours and variety which they don't get in himmatnagar that's why people go for big cities. So he explained me that few years ago people in small cities and towns didn't had so much money like most of the people were into farming and not everyone in the family was earning . Also there were bigger families as compared to current times, every couple had like 4-5 kids or more and income was also very low . So amount of people buying gold for investment purpose or fashion purpose was very very low . people that time would buy gold only for the purpose like marraiges or babyshower or related functions and they had to buy that gold on credit(udhaar) . So the people owning the jewellery shop also had to give them on credit to run the business and the customers will repay back slowly and sometimes shopkeepers also had to bear some losses as they will not get the money back on time or sometimes even didn't get it at all . Because of this borrowing system cash flow was low. So the scope of jewellery shop owners developing there business like having much variety was low . And for the people buying gold on credit also had no other option then buying whatever is given to them as they are buying on credit they don't demand for variety . But with the changing time and development people having land got good prices of there land because of development and also families very also getting small like most of the couples are having 1-2 kids and everyone in the family started earning . Because of this income of the family increased and with there increase in the purchasing power they demanded variety in things they buy so they go for big cities with much more diversity and bigger markets having variety and the market of jewellery shops decreased a lot with people turning there way towards ahmedabad . Because they don't have to buy gold on credit , now they have got the money they just wanted the good things and here the jewellery shops were not able to provide them with the things they wanted because of the past business they were not able to develop there business . Social media also played a big role in people turning towards big cities for things as modern adults/teens knows what they want and which trend is going on and they also want to explore all that . Now the jewellery shop owners here in himmatnagar also want to grow there business by providing variety and diversity in there shop as now they dont have to worry about cash flow and money not coming back to them , as customers buy things in cash and it benefits the business man.
culture and development plays a big role in the purchasing power and buying trend of a community and a business model based on the communities purchasing power is something to be evolved with time as people will buy the daily need things from the local market but when it comes to luxury they want more diversity and they don't want to compromise on anything . A major role played by well developed roads, infrastructure and well connectivity between the cities in people going out of the city to another city for shopping. people are not worried to travel instead they find it joyful . Now a days most people have car or any other kind of vehicle .

Ecoterrorism
Terrorism is the use of terror for ideological, political or religious ends. The word "terrorisme" was first used in November 1794, when it was used to describe the "doctrine of the partisans of the Terror", those who, some time earlier, had exercised power by waging an intense and violent struggle against the counter-revolutionaries. It was a way of exercising power, not a means of acting against it. The word evolved during the 19th century to mean action against the state rather than action by it (Terrorisme: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorisme).
Terrorism therefore stems from action by the State against its own people. Eco-terrorists are defined as "threats, intimidation and acts of violence against property or persons (civilians, police or military) committed in the name of ecologism". (Ecoterrorisme: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Écoterrorisme).
But doesn't terrorism come from those in power who use the police and the army against people who follow the advice of scientists to avoid the deaths and migrations linked to global warming? This is illegitimate violence.
These people in power could have acted in the 1990s to prevent the current disasters and can still act to prevent them in the future. This inaction in the face of global warming and despite the warnings of the scientific community is a form of terrorism that is amplified when these people use the police and the army against desperate environmental activists to make their voices heard. In effect, the people are allowed to elect but not to decide. Instead, our leaders encourage pollution. The Légion d'honneur for Total's boss, the difficulty for farmers and fishermen to convert to organic farming in the face of a system that only allows them to survive by polluting, and so on.
Rather than attacking immigrants who come to take up jobs in developed countries, wouldn't it be better to attack the oligarchs who plunder the wealth of developing countries, making life miserable for the people in the countries they pollute to no end? If people were treated well in their countries of origin, they would not seek to emigrate. And what about the migration caused by natural disasters resulting from climate change brought about by the thoughtlessness of these oligarchs?
The police and the army have a responsibility when they defend this oligarchy instead of defending the will of the people and saving lives by using the advice of scientists who have all the solutions to stop polluting and upsetting the climate. We have the solutions, we just have to do it!
This oligarchy is taking all the wealth and running our so-called democracies. When will we have popular initiative referendums so that we no longer need violence to make ourselves heard?
France is the 7th world power (https://www.journaldunet.fr/patrimoine/guide-des-finances-personnelles/1209268-classement-pib-quelles-sont-les-puissances-mondiales/#quels-sont-les-30premiers-pib-du-monde-). Why is it that the French have such problems with their purchasing power that they can't, for example, afford unsubsidised and overpriced organic produce or invest in a greener home? Wouldn't it be better to introduce a universal basic income so that everyone can live decently, rather than engaging in a race for jobs that leads to the suffering associated with unemployment, the RSA and bullshit jobs (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullshit_jobs) that we are already paying for with our taxes? With the development of technology and AI, work will not be there for everyone, with or without immigrants. A universal basic income would enable everyone to live decently, so that wealth is redistributed and not monopolised by the oligarchy.

The purchasing power parity (PPP) exchange rates that undergird the WBPL [World Bank’s poverty line] are calculated on the basis of prices across the entire economy – including commercial airfares, sports cars, and meals at high-end restaurants – rather than the prices of goods that people need in order to meet basic needs, such as food and shelter. When it comes to measuring poverty, what matters is not income as such but rather what that income can buy in terms of access to essential goods; in other words, what matters is the welfare purchasing power of income. Allen (2017) analyses commodity prices around the world in 2011 and finds that the cost of meeting basic needs, measured in PPP terms, changes depending upon the price of food and shelter relative to prices across the rest of the economy. In Zimbabwe a person’s subsistence needs can be met with $1.74, PPP. But purchasing a similar basket would cost $3.19 in Egypt, and $4.02 in France. Because the WBPL does not account for the variable cost of meeting basic needs in different countries, it cannot be used to establish meaningful estimates of poverty.
The problems with the WBPL become particularly acute when comparing socialist states like pre-reform China to capitalist states such as India or Brazil. Socialist states tend to invest in public provisioning systems to provide people with access to essential goods . In such cases, the cost of meeting basic needs is generally quite low. In capitalist states, with high levels of commodification or privatisation, the same goods may be significantly more expensive. Therefore, a dollar of income (in broad-gauge PPPs) is likely to have a stronger welfare purchasing power in socialist states than in capitalist states.

A slice of the cake
It’s not going well. Purchasing power is melting away, the standard of living is falling, and doctors are less and less available, drugs less and less reimbursed, and so on.
Tumblr media
There is clearly competition for resources. If grain runs out, prices will go up. There could be power cuts. Families are fighting over water, which farmers want to use in mega-basins. There are too many workers for the job market. There are too many sick people for the healthcare system. The state coffers are empty. Tension is created by the fact that there are too many of us on a small slice of the cake. Lack doesn’t make you good, it only makes you more selfish. It’s me first! Everyone defends their own little piece of the cake. For example, there are often deaths during food distributions.

Over the past fifty years, we’ve become accustomed to a neoliberal narrative that has hardened since the 2000s: those with the most right to the cake are the early risers, the front runners. The far right, on the other hand, asserts that those most deserving of a slice of the cake are the racially pure. They promise the forgotten of the Republic that they will come first. They appeal to people’s selfishness. They win elections in Europe and support Putin, who finances them. This weakens the West. Instead of making people envious, they make them horrified: they accept discrimination and slavery. In Russia, rich white people live well because they exploit minorities in their own interests. The oligarchs fatten up and enjoy the biggest slice of the cake. The crumbs are left for others to fight over. The share given to the oligarchs only gets bigger, and people become increasingly racist. 1% of the population owns half the world’s wealth. The every man for himself mentality is detrimental to the whole. Solidarity is what pays off.

It’s the law of the richest: they reduce the slice of the cake shared by middle-income earners, and take the whole cake.
If wealth were distributed fairly, everyone could be richer. There would be more public services: trains, hospitals, schools, etc.
In the 90s in the West, there was more cake for everyone and people were more united. The far right was less strong.
People behave differently depending on the size of their fortune. The richest can speculate. For example, they block wheat to drive up prices.

What accounts for the changes in the number of poor people at the three poverty lines?
As a result of the PPP update, the global extreme poverty rate for 2019 (the last year for which we have global poverty data) will decrease marginally, from 8.7% to 8.4%, reducing the count of people who live in extreme poverty by 20 million and bringing the total to 648 million. At the $3.65 line (used for lower-middle-income countries), the number of people living in poverty will increase by 35 million in 2019. At $6.85 (used for upper-middle-income countries), the number of poor will increase by 319 million in 2019. The larger increase at $6.85 occurs because the upper-middle-income country poverty line increased in real terms. In other words, since we last updated the global lines, upper-middle-income countries raised the standards by which they determine people to be poor, and hence the global population that fails to meet the standard is higher.
Tumblr media
You may wonder how the international poverty line can increase by a quarter of a dollar and yet the global number of poor can decrease marginally. The reason is that in some poor countries, individuals’ purchasing power has risen marginally. It is important to note though that the real value of the international poverty line is virtually unchanged – it is simply expressed in different prices now.
