Its interesting to see how sexism and misogyny have affect both Holly, Opal and really every female fairy character.
Holly quit her job - her job that was everything to her despite it being a toxic workplace, minimum wage, and really really dangerous - because the one person who really supported her had died and she blamed for by a sexist asshole who took said dead persons job.
Opal rejected her fathers expectations and bankrupted him out of spite when she became one of the most successful scientists, second to only Foaly. She pretty much ran over her partner in crime when he openly said she wouldn't be able to rule a world because shes a woman.
Vinyáya dies for no fucking reason in the seventh book (that's more Colfer fault) and despite being very skilled was never invited to join Recon.

Five fairies Artemis Fowl could have kidnapped by Kitsune_Heart
Artemis Fowl/Complete/Chapters: 1 Words: 2,288
Just a little bit of fun with a 5-and-1 type story. Artemis Fowl really got lucky with kidnapping Holly Short. Things could have been…a lot more interesting. // Why have I never thought about this before?? I love N°1’s section so so much.

graffiti.
Commander Julius Root had counted to one thousand. His therapist had advised him to do that when he got angry. Root had shouted at the unfortunate gremlin and had left the office. Clearly, it had been a foolish idea. Thank the Gods, he hadn't paid for that charlatan. Gritting his teeth, Root tried to sit up, but the bonds around his hands and ankles stopped him. He fell back, glaring at his depressing cell, the walls filled with gremlin graffiti.
Curse those criminals, Root thought with a grunt. Why was this stuff always happening when he went into the field? Back when he was a captain, he would have smelled the ambush five miles against the wind.
A sound to his right made him pause. Footsteps. He lifted himself to his knees to see who the footsteps belonged to. The sight almost made him sob in relief. Wing Commander Raine Vinyáya and Captain Holly Short.
Vinyáya stopped in front of the bars of his cell, studying him. Her eyes sparkled. "Didn't know you were into bondage, Julius."
Root's face coloured. "Haha, very funny. Some help?"
"I don't know. I rather prefer you this way."
Root spluttered incomprehensibly. Vinyáya grinned.
"Tell you what, I free you if you finally ask me out for dinner. I am sick of cooking for myself."
Root's face turned a dark shade of purple. "This is hardly the time," he said through clenched teeth.
"I think it's the best time," she said airily.
Holly grimaced, her eyes darting to the way she came from.
"Wing Commander, if you don't mind, maybe I should patrol the premises. See, if Trouble needs some help?"
"Absolutely not, Captain," she said, giving Holly a playful wink. "This is a valuable lesson in Human Resource Management. You should watch and learn."
Root began counting again. This was not happening. "Wing Comman-"
Vinyáya turned to Holly. "Ah well, maybe we should both patrol the premises."
"Will you have dinner with me, Raine?" Root barked. The last syllable stuck in his throat when Vinyáya whirled around and shot the lock clean off. She stepped into the cell with a steely-eyed smile.
"Why, I'd love to, Julius. Let me help you out of your shackles."
Root shot first her a dark look, then Holly, who was staring at her boots.
"If any of you ever talk about this..."

No but -I honestly *just* watched the second trailer and--I why are you even keeping the IP at that point? Who for? No one who read the books will support that muck and at that point- aren’t you better off just calling it something else? Quick notes: Did they just kill off Angeline?
What the fuck is the point of Artemis being a trained fighter?
The entire point of the books is sort of that they flipped gender roles on their heads, Most of Artemis’s problems (physically) stem from the fact he can’t run, jump, or fire a gun without breaking his wrist. He keeps getting *thrown* into snowbanks and a 3 foot tall person knocked him out at some point.
The books always had a way of-letting the women be the muscle is a really refreshing way. (Butler aside.) But no matter how smart the kid is- Artemis not very good for anything based on his brains alone, it kept the story balanced and kept him from being insufferably plot amour’d
Did they just make his dad be the one that discovered the faeries in the first place? What then even- makes him...special at all? . .He just feels like some homeschool kid now.
Did-did they kill off Juliet?
Sure okay lets get rid of the actual teenaged girl and make the adults teenagers.
I’m not sure what Holly’s---premise even is here. She doesn’t get kidnapped, they start on the same side, she’s a *child* and gender swapping Commander Root makes her no longer the first female in the LEP so I...what is she even for at this point?
If you Wanted a--female mentor for Holly for some reason. Raine Vinyáya is an actual character that made her way up to make a path for other females to advance by getting a position on the fairy council and pushing the liberal vote for female equality. Why would you just---make her a central character if that was the-goal?
I can’t picture this Artemis pulling off- any of the scenes I’ve waited to see in film format for 16 years and it makes me sad. Even if the movie was gravely changed I’d like to have seen something of the world I always pictured.
Artemis. Just. Has. a Crossbow. Is that what they’re doing with “Artemis the Hunter I hunted you?” . Are they just---going to hand a child a fucking crossbow? Okay.
Assuming these movies didn’t flop and they got sequels what would the plot of the time paradox be if Holly is already 14? Wasn’t that book just *”Growing up is scary- and then they kiss and Mulch is like *”Awe shit that’s--that’s so illegal, you ever try to put me in jail I’m going to blackmail you, because of how very illegal that is.” and we never spoke of it ever again? How’s that going to work if she’s 14 at the -opening? Is that why? Cause that whole thing was weird and awkward (but sort of made sense because you hold Artmis point of view and sort of have to be dragged through his puberty kicking and screaming first hand and it makes sense he slowly starts seeing her as a woman and not coping with it well.)
Edit: *And another thing!*  Why would you make Holly white then...double back and make the Butler family, a family of servants for white elites black? That’s I can’t even-explain to you that’s the worst way you could’ve possibly gone in for diversity in casting. Holly has “nut brown skin” and one could argue that’s the standard tone for her race as it’s never stated that it *isn’t* (outside of pixies and the Atlantians) That just reeks of some flagrant racism.
Okay! rant over--I just---holy crap. They’ll be more to this and maybe a coherent video one day- but these are just -live! thoughts.

My answers to the AF tag 💜
I hope you enjoy me answering my original Artemis Fowl tag questions. :)
#1): Who is your favorite character, and why?: My favorite character is Artemis, for a multitude of reasons. I think that one of them is the fact that I have the most emotional attachment to him; he's the first character we're introduced to in book 1. Another reason is his beautiful character development throughout the series.
#2) Which book is your favorite, and what is your favorite scene from it?: My favorite book is The Opal Deception, and my scene from it is when Artemis dresses up as a "normal teenager" to steal The Fairy Thief.
#3) Do you ship any of the characters? Why or why not?: I ship Artemis and Juliet, and Holly and Trouble. As side ships, I also ship Chix Verbil and Lili Frond, as well as Julius Root and Raine Vinyáya.
#4) If you could be a species of fairy, which one would you be and why?: I would be a sprite! Flying would be so cool.
#5) Do you have a favorite Fowl Twin? If so, why?: My favorite Fowl Twin is Beckett. He is just so adorable, and a nongenius can be refreshing.
#6) Would you rather have a perfectly made AF movie OR animated TV series?: Hard one, but I would have to say animated TV series. That'd be awesome.
#7) Which graphic novel design do you like better, the older or the more recent one?: The older designs have better backgrounds, but the more recent one has better character designs. Plus, it included the classic "I don't like lollipops" line. :)
#8) Which villian is your favorite, and why?: My favorite villian would have to be Opal Koboi. She's adorable, genius, crazy, and just such an entertaining character. She's also the villian we get the most time with, so an emotional attachment is inevitable XD
#9) Give your book ranking, from worst to best: The Opal Deception, The Time Paradox, Artemis Fowl, The Eternity Code, The Lost Colony, The Arctic Incident, The Last Guardian, The Atlantis Complex
#10) If you could say one thing to any of the characters, what would you say?: This took me forever to think of, but I think I would tell Artemis about the casting for the movie and all the decisions that have been made, and see his reaction to all the madness XD
And that is all, you guys! Hope you enjoyed this post, and don't forget to reblog and give your opinion on the questions! Love ya!

People are overreacting about the Artemis Fowl movie casting
Now, before you say anything, I still think Holly and Root should be played by darker-skinned POC, and I still think Butler should be played by an Asian actor. But just hear me out on the rest of this.
First off, the books described Holly as having childlike features. For all we know, McDonnell may be playing an 80 year-old character after all.
Secondly, Holly may still be the first female officer in her field. Holly was NOT the first female in the LEP. Remember Raine Vinyáya? SHE was the first female officer, before Holly. But she was the Wing Commander; Holly was the first recon officer. Commander Root could be in a different field for all we know.
Third, even if the second point is not the case, the movie can still have a very positive female message. Holly’s story is an extreme one. I honestly wouldn't mind a more nuanced story of inequality.
They may have pulled a Zootopia with the story, in that they changed the world to be more likable. In the original draft of Zootopia, the predators had shock collars to “keep them under control,” but the writers changed it because they wanted to love the world and the clear inequality made that impossible. And personally? I kind of always hated the faeries. They always preach about how morally superior they are to the “Mud Men,” but then do basic moral wrongs, i.e. the clear prejudice against females, and the racism among different fairy families. I've always wanted Eoin to address the fact that Haven isn't the utopia it claims to be; however, if the producers decided to make it a proper utopia, sure I’d be mildly disappointed, but I don’t know how much is already in the script. There may just not be enough time to explore that.
Fourth, even if all the above are NOT the case, I’m pretty sure it’s too late for them to change the cast to have an adult Holly and male Root. The movie’s coming out in two years, which means they settled on a script. Worst case scenario, changing the cast to be more accurate would mean they would need to re-write the script all over again.
Fifth, Butler’s back story may not be the same. Sixth, if it is, it might not be an entirely African linage. The butlers could be a very mixed family.
A lot of these points could be giving the movie more credit than it will end up deserving, sure—but we know virtually nothing about the new script. All I’m saying is, we should give them the benefit of the doubt before causing a big uproar. I’ve sort of come to terms with the fact that the movie and the book are probably going to be two completely separate beasts; I mean, have you read the How to Train Your Dragon books? Did you even know the movie was a book adaptation? If you didn’t, it’s probably because the books and the movie are RADICALLY different. I HATED how different they were from the movie, but I eventually accepted it as being a separate entity, and i enjoy them both, separately.
And honestly, it’s a book adaptation. I never had much expectation for it to be very accurate to the books, or even be very good. But we’ll see in time, I suppose.

Things I love about Raine Vinyáya
Alternate title: Almost everything Eoin Colfer ever mentioned about her
She was basically Julius Root’s strongest supporter.
She taught Holly Short how to fly, and how to get out of restraints.
She once taught a course about trauma psychology.
She fought against the goblins instead of hiding behind the troops like the rest of the Council.
She didn’t miss once while shooting at them.
She definitely didn’t vote for Ark Sool (that asshole).
She actually listened to Foaly, and eventually hired him for Section Eight by having someone approach him at a speed-dating weekend.
She pretty much paved the way for all female members of the fairy forces.
She led a Retrieval team to the dark side of the moon.
She had silver hair (and it suited her!) because she got tired of dyeing it.
She liked wowing people.
She managed to get Mulch Diggums to shut up in six sentences (or three, depending on where you start counting).
She probably chose Section Eight’s matte black uniforms.
She was described by Artemis as someone he never intended to underestimate.
She sassed him a lot.
In summary: Everything.
(Also, she’s NOT DEAD, okay?)
