(this is spacekrakens lmao) dude idk anything about like 1950s Japanese cinema, do you have any recommendations? looking for stuff to toss on the watchlist now that I'm a bit burned out on horror (unless you have some horror recs)

Hey! If you’re curious about Japanese cinema (particularly 1950s), there’s a lot of avenues to explore! Musicals, crime, horror, historical—it all depends on what mood you’re in. (Putting this under a read more because I'm DEFINITELY going to be long posting about this!!!) Hope this is useful to you lol.

(Also noting if anybody wants to add to this list with their own recommendations feel free!!)

With old school Japanese cinema, I’ll always recommend Akira Kurosawa (obviously). He’s made some of the best Japanese movies (and arguably, the best movies of all time imo) and I feel like his work is a good gateway. It’s readily available on physical media/streaming too.

Specifically ‘50s stuff; Hidden Fortress (1958) is a good adventure flick whose structure was swiped for Star Wars, Throne of Blood (1957) is Japanese Macbeth if you like Shakespeare, and if you don’t mind a longer movie Seven Samurai (1954) includes Toshiro Mifune acting like this;

Gotta admit, though—my personal favorites from Kurosawa don’t come from the 1950s; Drunken Angel (1948) and Yojimbo (1961). One has a pathetic gangster as the main lead, the other is just a solid, breezy proto-action film (also has my beloved Unosuke but that's besides the point)

Some personal favorites of mine from the 1950s:

Life of a Horse Trader (1951) is a bittersweet story about a man trying to be a good single father to his son in the backdrop of Hokkaido. He tends not to be great at it. Stars Toshiro Mifune, the most famous face of Japanese cinema and for good reason!

Conflagration/Enjo (1958) is a single Buddhist acolyte’s fall into quiet insanity. Raizo Ichikawa is another amazing actor who I love! Also includes Tatsuya Nakadai who is the GOAT (in my heart).

Godzilla (1954) is AMAZING! If you liked Gozilla Minus One, it took a lot of familiar cues from this movie. It also technically counts as horror, depending on your definition.

Japanese horror from the 1950s:

Ugetsu (1951) (Not one I’ve seen personally, but it’s on Criterion)

The Beast Shall Die (1958) (American Psycho, but in Showa Japan. Tatsuya Nakadai is terrifying in this and absolutely despicable—stylish movie tho!)

Ghost of Yotsuya (1959) (Old-school Japanese ghost story. Honestly, there are so many different versions of this story on film that you can pick which version to watch and go from there—I’m partial to the 1965 version myself, because of the rubber rats and Tatsuya Nakadai playing a crazy person).

The Lady Vampire (1959) is the OG western-style vampire movie from Japan. Plays around with the mythos a lot, but hey our Dracula looks like this;

Misc movies that I think are neat or good gateway movies:

The Samurai Trilogy by Hiroshi Inagaki, which stars Toshiro Mifune as Miyamoto Musashi. Found that people otherwise uninterested in Japanese cinema really enjoyed this!

You Can Succeed, Too (1964) is one of my favorites from the ‘60s, also directed by Eizō Sugawa. A fun satire on the corporate world that's super colorful with catchy songs.

The Sword of Doom (1966) is also another favorite of mine, starring my beloved Tatsuya Nakadai as another bastard man (seriously though Ryunosuke is FASCINATING to me--). Fun gore effects and action scenes!

Kwaidan (1964) is an anthology of Japanese folk tales, labeled a horror film but in that kinda sorta old-school way. Beautifully shot by my favorite Japanese director Masaki Kobayashi (who, if you like this you should seriously check out his other work!)

Since I mentioned how Martyn saved Last Life for me, I think it’s time I finally make my Martyn Appreciation Post that I’ve been meaning to make because the fandom is too mean to him sometimes.

Once upon a time, I discovered a series called 3rd Life. I watched it because I had watched Grian many years ago and figured “sure, I’ll see what he’s up to now.” The premise was very interesting and the episode got me hooked. The second episode came out and I watched Scar’s, it was so funny I subscribed despite never knowing anyone except Grian before 3L. I watched the series as it came out, always watching Scar but branching out to see the other POVs too, because I was invested in the whole story. And of course, how could you watch 3rd Life without watching Martyn, the hand. His editing was great, he added so much to the enjoyment of the story with just editing.

And then suddenly, (I think this was the first instance but I could be wrong) he had almost died and there was a voice telling him it wasn’t his time to die yet. I watched Scar first as always, so I knew Martyn would survive, but the editing made it feel like he wouldn’t until that voice came and “saved” him. I wasn’t expecting anything like that at all. What was that voice supposed to be? Why wasn’t it the right time for him to die? Fans all talked about it of course. Back then, it was called the “voice lore”, cuz that’s all we really knew. A voice. This voice lore gave fans even MORE to talk and theorize about, which is always great in fandom spaces. The series went on, the voice coming back sometimes as we’d try to figure out what was going on. It wanted him to kill Ren, but he never did. He couldn’t, because Ren had died and Martyn fell shortly after.

The 3rd Life finale was fantastic. I cried. Like actually I cried, and despite not writing often I even wrote a little retelling of the cactus fight mere hours after watching the finale. It was that inspiring. I was crying as I wrote. Eventually, I got around to watching Martyn’s POV of it, cuz how could I not? It was amazing, a totally different side of the war, a very tragic one at that. Of course, Martyn died. I knew he would, I watched Scar first every time. But I wasn’t expecting what would happen after he died. His character falling in a dark void, some speech about always fighting, even if you have nothing to live for. It made me cry. Yes, I cried a lot in my time in the life series. It’s great that a series could make me feel that way. Anyways, I cried at that speech. Then it ended, and the voice returned. It wasn’t very happy with Martyn. I was actually legitimately worried for his character. Until that point, I had been imagining afterlives for all of the characters (yes I cried at Scott’s finale too). Happy afterlives for them, since I loved the characters so much. But when I saw that last bit of Martyn’s finale, I was worried he wouldn’t get a happy ending like I wanted for all of them. But of course, my feelings aside, this was lore. Why wasn’t the voice happy? What was it going to do?

I went on twitch and found Martyn streaming, talking about 3rd Life. I watched and learned so much behind the scenes stuff. I’m just going to bring up this point now: Martyn’s interactions with life series fans is part of what makes him and his lore so great. But more on that later.

Then Last Life came out. I was so excited, I actually recently dug up my old DMs with my sister from when I found out about it, apparently I was a couple days late to realize it came out lol. Not sure what I was doing, I also don’t think I knew there would be a second season, even though I know I watched Grian’s finale where it said there would be. Idk maybe I forgot. Anyways… I was OBSESSED with Last Life. Completely and fully invested. My birthday was during its run and all I asked for was my family members to draw wizard Scar. But anyways the point is Martyn. The voice returned! And this time… there was more! Martyn was acknowledging the voice. There was a secret shadow group formed, and we learned more and more about the voice but not enough… yet.

One of my favorite parts of Last Life was when Martyn was… hallucinating? Jimmy and Mumbo were alive and he did Mumbo’s intro. It was well put together, disturbing, sad, and also a great teaser for the episode when he uploaded that Mumbo intro compilation. Then he runs and has an argument with the voice before finally giving in. Like… wow. What was that lol. It was awesome! Martyn’s character has always had such… character. He’s merciless and willing to betray, yet also loyal and empathetic. It feels like he would be a sweet guy and a nice friend if it weren’t for the circumstances. I love c!Martyn so much, he really feels like he has feelings even tho he’s just real life Martyn’s OC he roleplays as in minecraft.

But now, that famous Last Life Finale. Martyn dies (in a very bad way I might add) and the same thing that made me sad last time happened again, but worse. The voice was upset with him. This time, to his face, and VERY angry. That end speech is one of my favorite parts of the life series EVER. I want to have it memorized. It explained so much, was so powerful, just vague enough that you might not understand at first but could easily figure out with a bit of thinking what they’re referencing. And since that day, it was no longer called voice lore. We knew what the voice was now. It was now known as the watcher lore.

Now, to be honest, I think I actually first experienced this legendary speech from a stream. I was just absorbing the Last Life finale (which was disappointing for me personally but that’s a different post) when I saw Martyn was streaming an explanation of his lore. I watched it, and it was amazing. I got to learn what everything meant, little bits of trivia and behind the scenes, all that! It honestly saved my slipping enjoyment of Last Life. I had never watched EVO, but the great thing was you didn’t really need to. If there was something you didn’t understand, you could ask other fans, or just ask Martyn. That’s one of the best things about the watcher lore! The guy writing it is very open to discussing it with fans so you can understand it better, show him your theories, learn behind the scenes and all that!!

I just don’t see how people could hate it so much. Out of all the life series creators, Martyn interacts with the fans the most. Not even in an uncomfortable way, he seems to understand fans and fandoms well. Here on tumblr if you’re interested in his lore you can just shoot him an ask and he’ll likely answer! He’s planning on making an explanation video for his lore too, which will be really helpful. It’s the most interactive part of the life series (aside from the new “suggesting secrets for secret life” thing), of course the fandom will obsess over it!

It’s just disheartening to see people diss it so hard just because they think the fans are annoying. First of all, most posts that talk about that reek of cringe culture, second of all, have some respect for the hard work Martyn puts into this!!! There’s no reason to drag him down just because his work inspires the fandom more than you’d like it to. I’ve seen people say it’s just fan service. First of all, I don’t see a problem in him seeing fans talk about watchers a lot and think “let me give them more to work with!”, especially when second of all HE WAS PART OF EVO, I’M PRETTY SURE HE WAS ONE OF THE WRITERS FOR IT. He has full right to continue the watcher story. Also people don’t seem to realize the lore has existed since 3rd Life? Probably because we didn’t know it was watchers back then. But still, he didn’t randomly see watchers and go “I’ll do that”. Before the watcher reveal I think I saw watchers in the fandom like twice? Because Grian made the series. It was mostly just AUs anyway. So yeah. Martyn wasn’t like stealing fanon lore for clout he just wanted to use watchers and we went “that’s so cool” and went insane.

Within the series, the lore isn’t as overbearing as people claim it is either. Once again stop dragging Martyn down for gripes you have with other fans. There wasn’t even ANY in double life. In Limited Life, it was just a few rhymes and such, which was still awesome! His finale also added more to the lore, was very cinematic and cool. Lots of work put into it.

On that subject I also made it to the Limited Life Finale Stream!!! Explaining the lore and answering questions and giving behind the scenes information!!! It was great! Other members of the series helped him with his finale which is cool. He gives us tons of stuff to work with all the time, lore to theorize on, he just gives so so much to the fans. It’s no surprise at all that we love his lore.

Just… most hate I see is so misdirected towards Martyn. Don’t hate him because he made an incredible story! I stand in front of him with a sword and a shield and say “he is not your enemy! Everything you’re complaining about is because of the fans!” So you turn around to fight the fans only to see I am also standing in front of them with a sword and shield. But that is a conversation for another day.

Basically, Martyn lore so good he is great for the fandom and I cried ten million times while in this fandom. In a good way.

I’ve been thinking about how both the DSMP and the QSMP have affected my life.

I found the DSMP in 2021, so while I wasn’t an early early watcher, it was a big part of my life through Covid, moving, school and a bunch of other stuff. I found these creators who were just online having fun, and I lived through them.

Phil was the first person I started watching, and then it spiralled off to Techno, Tommy, then Tubbo, then Ranboo, then a bunch of others. I caught up on the lore, I watched streams, videos, joined Reddit communities, and it was a big part of my life. It definitely impacted my journey on the internet and in the real world. I would say I partly grew up on the internet.

I stopped watching for a bit. Life got in the way. I was still an avid YouTube watcher, but missed a lot of streams because of my timezone. I caught a few now and again. From what I could tell, DSMP was coming to a close. ‘That’s fine!’ I thought. ´They’ll be back soon. It’s not like everything else will stop as well.´ I had found Hermitcraft and Empires and a bunch of other stuff to watch, so I had mainly moved onto YouTube.

Then Techno died. And I launched right back into his community. I read every MrTechnodad Reddit post, watched every video of streamers talking about it, watched the whole of Phil’s silent memorial making stream. Watched his videos over and over again. It still hurts.

They announced the ending. I was fine with it. I mainly watched Phil and he said he wasn’t going to be in it so I wasn’t really bothered. I was prepared to watch Phil play hardcore and do the Sorry Boys with everyone and other stuff for at least a little bit.

Then, they announced QSMP. I honestly wasn’t really interested at first. I tried to watch some and couldn’t see the point. I thought, Quackity should add some more well know streamers if he wants people to watch, but that’s not the point of QSMP. I understand now.

QSMP is entirely different from anything we’ve had before. It has inspired the English creators to learn a language, or continue learning if they already were. It’s inspired me to learn a language, and a few seconds of watching it will give me new motivation to do so!

QSMP introduced me to Cellbit, Baghera, all the amazing, funny, great to watch and listen to creators I never would have known existed if not for QSMP.

And of course the eggs. I love all of them. I know the tricks and I know that they’re just admins but the admins are people! And I choose to believe their real personalities are shining through the eggs.

I love that Phil does his Cucurucho/Chayanne fourth wall breaking and that Tallulah has come out of her shell (get it) enough to join in on that. I love Leo’s sass and how Fit cares for Ramon. I love Dapper and BBH’s joking infighting and how people ask Dapper a lot of things because he knows stuff. I love Richas’s dad collecting and what an amazing painter he is. I love Pommes sweetness and how she and Tallulah hit it off. I miss Bobby’s tendencies to get himself into trouble. I miss how in sync Juana and Slime were. I joined after Trump and Tilin died, but I miss them too.

Thank you, everyone on the DSMP (which should really be BBHSMP because apparently he was paying for it the whole time), for being such a big part of my life. I’ll never really be able to thank most of you enough.

Spoiler ahead for the CN livestream, so chapter 14 stuff and brief IS5 mention (also anime season 3 confirmed now). Do not keep reading to avoid spoilers. Just some of my early thoughts. Stream of conciousness, not having thought things through much kind of thing. Kind of just rambling. But tl;dr is that I am excited and it looks good to me.

So, they keep using Civilight Etherna to describe "Theresa" and even outright ask "is she really Theresa?" in the live stream, so no its not a full on resurrection... so from a certain point of view, I was right. Her kit seems super good, she a bard also the freebie operator. Since I do not have Skalter this is good news for me. Big buffs, can do true damage... is neat. Logos is... outright busted. His S1 is insanely good AFK skill which can just auto kill weaker enemies who enters his range, not even an attack and his S2 seems fine, his S3 is also insane. Depending on the numbers he might outperform Eyja but we´ll see, that is always the test is it not? Amiya gets to be an incantation medic, with an outright busted talent (passive health regen on skill, off and on skill gives max HP boosts, this applies to all operators for both it seems?) and a pretty good looking S1 (attacks two enemies, bonus damage) and an amazing S2 with a big burst of damage at first, then slow and true damage with targeting two enemies and.... once per mission... again. Its... fine, I´m not salty.... Anyway, the big star, is limited (I had hoped she would be freebie since her original was limited but oh well) Walter.... or, W has now picked a name for herself, we will have to learn the context in chapter 14, Wis´adel (she has a different S but my keyboard lacks it, it is pronouched as a "sh" sound though). Wis´adel is a flinger sniper who makes all other flingers irelevant and is absolutely busted. Because I am a big W fan (depending on the day it is either her or Kal´tsit who is my second favorite operator) and flingers were in a really bad spot I am kind of ok with this but I still prefer they do not just blatantly directly power creep operators or go too far on insane damage numbers. Her damage seems... a bit too high in my opinion, but because I love her as a character and am excited for her story going forward and her kit seems fun, just really overtuned, I will be pulling. And I guess Degenbrecher and Mlynar already brought us up to this insane damage level so I should not be surprised. Power creep is something I have kept up in many many games I play and there are times where a later power crept state was my favorite period of the game so I will not go and get too hung up on the power creep. Also, I was right to take notice of the floating black crown parts I think cause it is even more prominent now. Bunch of story related stuff here but I wanna wait with talking about that until I have sorted my thoughts and maybe even read chapter 14. On that note, story for chapter 14 has me INCREDIBLY hyped. 13 was my favorite chapter, dethroning chapter 8. And I really wanna know what they are cooking next! Also IS5 has a Kal´tsit boss... she wields a sword!!!! (There are some interesting stuff about Kal and weapons that comes up occasionally, this is in the past it seems so maybe we find out what the deal is?)

I do think its a kind of bad decision to make IS5 sarkaz themed though, I like the sarkaz stuff but I feel IS is best used for parts of the world not explored in as much depth elsewhere. (I think it works with IS3 doing something explored a lot elsewhere but I kinda do not want them to keep doing that). But back to positive stuff the character designs are great. Wis´adel design has really grown on me, I think its a huge downgrade from what she wore before but it feels like it fits her so I am fine with that. Amiya has improved her fashion sense, at first I was sad at no more big coat/cape but that turned out to just be cause the blurry art... she went for a long coat instead of big coat that was actually a normal coat but just too big for her. So it still is something actually made to fit her but still retains the big coat look to some extent. Civilight Etherna boobs seem bigger then Theresa´s(?) Is it to contain the myriad souls? Deep lore implications about this at least! Logos uniform is good but like, so are all Rhodes uniforms. I do not feel it is exceptionally good for a Rhodes uniform but it suits him. Oh and also we see Wis´adel studying in one of the PVs, Hoederer must be so proud she is finally taking her education seriously~! Lastly on addressing the name situation... I will keep using W until chapter 14 is out on global to avoid spoiling people, after that I will probably switch to using her new name. Names are a very important thing especially when you pick them yourself.

An older tune spilled from the phonograph in the back of the room, filling the quiet crypt with a liveliness that normally wasn't felt here. It was a mid-tempo song, but the lyrics fell unheard on your ears. You were too busy.

Grimora held your hands in hers, cool against your skin, as she pulled you into a dance. Of course she led, she was the taller party, and you were too lost in the moment to lead besides. She turned and guided you in what felt like a version of ballroom-dancing, music playing on behind you. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the ghouls pausing to appreciate the music.

The Scrybe's dress swished as she pulled you a bit closer, and you felt your chest warm with adoration when you met her gaze and saw her smile. While she maintained a 'proper' attitude with the other Scrybes, you and her ghouls all knew different. She had a warmth that she hid beneath her work… but not from you.

A laugh escaped you as Grimora extended her arms to carefully spin you in a circle. She answered with her own ethereal laugh. "Dearest, you make even this old lady feel young again," she cooed.

You made a dismissive noise. “Youth is a myth," you replied, "It comes from within."

Her laughter raised by an octave; you must have caught her by surprise. "Cheeky of you, my angel," Grimora hummed.

The song was drawing to a close and she took the opportunity to place her palm to your back and dip you slightly. You both took a moment to look into each other's eyes, soft smiles on your faces. Then Grimora leaned down and gently placed her forehead to yours, her glowing eyes fluttering closed. You closed your own, inhaling deep of her subtle, flowery perfume.

You wished this moment could last forever.

Oh, this was perfect. You held still, save for the slow lift of the camera in your hands. You peered through the shutter, steadying the shot. On the other end of the viewfinder was a beautiful russet fox, rooting through the forest undergrowth in search of prey. Steady, steady…

Just as it looked up, you took the shot. Amazing. The fox continued its search, still unaware of your presence for the moment. You lowered the camera, taking the instant picture from the slot and waving it to let it develop. When you looked at it, you swore it belonged on the cover of a nature magazine.

"Excellent framing."

You nearly startled and dropped the camera. "Geez!" you hissed, causing the fox to scurry into the brush, "Leshy…!"

He chuckled at your reaction. He did so relish sneaking up on you, it was so easy due to his command of the forest. "I suppose that answers what you are doing with my spare camera, then."

You frowned up at the huge figure beside you, but it was pretty hard to stay mad when his eyes were crinkled with amusement at you. Your frown turned to a smile as you lifted a small bag from your hip. "There were so many creatures around, I just wanted to give it a try," you explained, pulling out the other photos you'd deemed as keepers. A sparrow mid-flight, a school of fish in a shining stream, a rabbit alert from your presence, among others.

Leshy took them delicately from your hands, looking them over with an appraising eye. He hummed approvingly, singling out the bird photo. "You have a photographer's eye," he commented before lifting a brow, "Are you certain you aren't aiming to replace me?"

He pulled a laugh out of you with that. "I'd never dream of it," you replied, taking the photos he offered and putting them away. You smiled up at the Scrybe of Beasts. "You could always guide me, though. Learning at the elbow of the master should be interesting!"

He seemed intrigued by that. "Ah, flattery," he mused, then placed his broad palm on your head, "Fine, you have swayed me." Leshy let his hand drop, but not before brushing the back of one finger against your cheek subtly. "But you shall listen and obey, I will not repeat myself."

He was trying to act commanding, but his tone lacked that edge. He sounded more fond than anything. "Yes, sir Scrybe," you teased back.

Itaru: “I see…” “I guess you can say the range of the things you like has broadened thanks to joining the theatre?”

Hi! Hope its ok to ask, and sorry if its already been answered before: Do you have fav Les Mis adaption? Or a few?

Thank you for asking me!! I've not watched all of them, considering how many there are floating around out there and how many are sadly lost, but. I have spent this year hunting down and watching every adaptation I could. A special thanks to @ueinra for a lot of help in that regard. I recently made a Letterboxd account and a List just for Les Mis. I've plans to go through and review them properly, (Currently I only have Shoujo Cosette reviewed!) but I'd be happy to try to coalesce my thoughts on my absolute favorite for you, that being the four-part silent* Les Miserables (1925) under this read-more! Hiyah!

It's... Hard to grasp my feelings on LM1925, considering how special it is to me. These films really made me love the idea of cinema again. I had never seen a silent movie before, and frankly I thought they were one of those things that were a bit out of reach for me, but wow I am so so happy I watched LM1925. Not only is it a fantastic adaptation of LM, it's also just a fantastic set of movies (miniseries??) in general. The casting, the acting, the sets, the locations, the attention to detail, the quality of the visuals (which often are just frankly stunningly beautiful), the pacing, the atmosphere. Everything just works and is faithful to the feeling of reading the novel. (I will say I watched it without the accompany music at first, but have since gone back and listened to it overtop on a rewatch, and wow what a cool oddity it is. The Sims 1 soundtrack but with a surreal and often nightmarish twist.) I adore Gabriel Gabrio as Valjean. He really captures the idea that Valjean can both be noble, kind, and fearsome all in one. And Jean Toulout as scrunkly and lively Javert...!! I truly love him. I think them and Sandra Milovanoff as Fantine (less so as her playing Cosette, too, wish they would have cast another person) give absolutely amazing performances. This is also a great adaptation for the Gorbeau part of the book, ESPECIALLY Suzanne Nivette as Eponine, wow! What an Eponine! Probably my favorite Eponine. Same with Thenardier, both the Eponine and Thenardier in this one are tied with LM1972 for me. I also just like the... what I'll call "Theater Acting" performances I've seen in this and in the other early films I've watched since. The thick makeup. The funny expressions. The dramatic poses. All this would be considered overacting in the modern day, but to me it just feels alive. It reminds me of a lot of animations, I suppose, and that delights me. I also love love love that they didn't attempt to make big changes to the material at hand (Hell, they even touch on Waterloo in a way I thought was cool!). LM1925 and Shoujo Cosette made me realise that the longer a Les Mis adaptation is, typically the better it is to me. (with. One exception off the top of my head...) I think by the time I had watched all the other adaptations of both the novel and the musical, I had grown fatigued over the different ways films would try to condense things into 2 hours, and leave a lot on the cutting room floor (even if that usually means they focus more on the J vs JVJ aspect that I always have a weakness for), or when they try to cram everything into said 2 hours and turns it into a pacing nightmare. LM1925 avoids all that!

I feel I'm rambling on, so I'll rapid fire some stuff off. I love that they filmed in the actual msurm. I love that they kept things really grungy when the film calls for it. I love the scenes of the barricade, especially the scenes with the national guards spilling in. I love the subtle changes to the valvert side of things, it's truly one of the better adaptations for the shippers. I need to get on making some gifsets. If you love Les Mis, or just film in general, I think you owe it to yourself to watch LM1925. It's free! It's on the Internet Archive! There are download buttons or you can stream it! Please do! And tell me your thoughts on it!

A birthday ficlet for @ruddcatha!

“I love you.”

She said it like it didn’t mean anything, easy as a breeze, simple as a sunrise.

“I love you.”

It slipped from her lips like water through a stream and filled him up with warmth and light and peace, but it also brought consternation that he had so much trouble saying it back. In the months that she’d been back and they’d built a hut, gotten married and started a life he’d never said it.

Why couldn’t he just say it back?

“I love you,” she would say as she brushed a kiss across his cheek and stepped from their hut to begin her daily duties, and he would watch her go with a stitch in his brow and a million words boiling behind his teeth that he wanted say, that threatened to burst out and spill all over the floor but also threatened to drown him if he tried.

And so he’d make sure the cooking pot was full of water and all her stew ingredients were chopped and prepped and ready, and he would drag in her bathtub and make sure it was filled with searing hot water so it would be the perfect temperature for after dinner, and he would air out their bedding and arrange her hair combs and find a handful of berries so she could have something sweet, and he would greet her with a smile when she shuffled in tired after a long day of doing miko stuff.

And he would rub her shoulders and hold her close and tell her how good dinner was.

And then she would say it again, “I love you,” and he would freeze and stare at her and try so hard to say it back even as his tongue turned to stone and refused to move.

She would smile, and he would pull her close again, and sometimes the air between them would warm and churn and electrify, so he would spend great effort spelling his heart against her skin with his hands and lips and tongue.

And then he’d stare up at the ceiling as she fell asleep on his chest and wonder how he’d managed to pull off marriage to the greatest being that had ever existed when he couldn’t open his damn mouth and say the simplest of sentiments.

He watched her get ready the next morning after a simple breakfast, tying back her hair and donning the red and white robes that marked her as Kaede’s apprentice, and as she slipped on her shoes and grabbed her gathering basket she turned to wave.

“Bye Inuyasha! See you this evening. Love you!”

“Wait-“ he said, halting her at the door, and she turned to face him again, the picture of patience as he stood there with a blank face and a mouth that couldn’t decide if it should be open or closed.

“I….. I….. uh…..”

“Yes?”

“I……… I do too!”

“You… do too?“

“Yes! I… I do too. I just… you always say it and I don’t and I didn’t want you to think I didn’t, okay?! That’s all.”

She blinked, her lips pouting out as confusion rumpled her brow, and then clarity and realization lit her eyes up.

“Oh! You mean you love me too! Oh Inuyasha, I already know that!” She said with a laugh, stepping back inside to wrap her arms around his waist. “You say it all the time whether you realize it or not.”

“I… I do?”

“Well yeah. But thank you for trying anyway. It means a lot.”

She grinned up at him, amusement and adoration dancing and twinkling around in her eyes, on the corners of her upturned mouth, and the truth of just how lucky he was sat heavy on his heart again.

Not that he’d ever forgotten.

“Yeah,” he breathed out around his never ending amazement that she really did belong to him, that she wanted him to belong to her, “yeah uh… don’t mention it.”

She giggled, stood up on her tiptoes, pressed a kiss to his mouth.

“See you for dinner.”

And then she was gone, off to do whatever it was a miko did, content to know he was going to be there when she got back.

He grinned to himself.

It was time to think up a list of other things he could do to express his feelings without words.

She spoke his language, such as it was, and she deserved poetry in whatever way he could write it.

Do people know that a tour which lasts months is promo, right? Suga might have “only” 3 weeks for pre-release promo because he is going to spend month touring which is amazing for longevity.

It really bothers me is that armys went overboard with the US charts. If they can’t keep it there they shouldn’t have put him so high just to let him down, literally.

There’s no worse thing that can happen if it free falls and this week is the only one we mostly have the focus on Jimin. After the fighting and whining about why Yoongi isn’t getting this and that like Jimin etc etc is going to start.

At least this one song is going to raise the streams for LC in the last day of tracking.

A tour is really good for promo. He could even do interviews and make radio and TV appearances while the tour is going, and that's brilliant promo too. Jimin got a month because they already knew they'd have to squeeze on the street in there. The preorder was open, sure, but also other stuff was coming out too. I don't think anything else will come out now. Face and dday is all there is now for the foreseeable future (the next three weeks).

Omg but billboard hot 100 was almost an accident😭 the goal was like #40 or less. I don't remember but not many people expected it above 50, same with smf2 that ranked 30 and that was a surprise for everyone. I don't think anyone imagined like crazy would go so high. Everyone was just on Spotify and then the first prediction came out and like crazy was listed #7 just like that.

I have to say tho that I strongly believe pjm fanbases did a lot but silently. I've seen pjm funds tweet that things were going just as they planned but they didn't want to disclose numbers. So everyone was kind of in the dark so nobody saw it coming until the predictions.

Apparently it was also a collateral effect of people buying the album, since billboard 200 was actually the record armys were going for. I'm not familiar with the specifics.

I know everyone cares about the repercussions if it free falls, but I try to be realistic about it and not let myself get carried away by antis madness. Jimin on his own is not really a solo stablished artist, this is just his first EP. Him getting a #1 even for just a week is a major milestone to me. Great majority of artists don't ever get that top position in their entire lives. Miley Cyrus got #1 with flowers, and her only one before that was wrecking ball, a decade ago. And it's Miley Cyrus, she's made a name for herself and it was that hard for her too. Taylor Swift had Willow too, it was #1 for a week and then fell several spots. And that's Taylor Swift, like... Harry got a #5 with his first solo single and that was in 2017 when the chart rules were so much easier to manipulate. He got his first #1 on his second album, it was watermelon sugar that charted #1 for only one week too. His first and only stable #1 until now has been as it was, with his THIRD (!) soloist album.

I try to be realistic and even if I'm no chart expert, I can tell from what I know from other artists I listen to, that getting a #1 even for a week is not easy. I think Jimin has the potential to top charts consistently for many weeks in a row. Face has already been the number one album on itunes worldwide for 11 days straight. But he needs to be somewhat of a household name. Getting BB hot 100 with the current rules on his debut album is a lot.

There's so much I'm wishing that will come true so it can keep that position for at least one more week. I'm wishing with everything in me that it doesn't free fall, not because I care about people who never cracked top 50 will say, but because it's actually a great song! More importantly, because Jimin deserves. I know US pjms/armys who can do something about it, will do it. But even if what they do is not enough for a second week, I think anyone in real life knows that even getting it for only week is a huge accomplishment. Jimin has just started building his career, and the only way is up.

I'm very dramatic in my feelings and the mystical and stuff so I'm also thinking a lot about how BTS got their first #1 during the pandemic with dynamite, and now Jimin is getting his #1 with a song about issues he went through during the pandemic. Full circle.

I loved every moment you mentioned too! The greatest is so good, it was one of my immediate favourites on the album on first listen so hearing it as the opener was awesome. SIBWAWC delivered as expected!!! So good. It was just such a strong setlist! I agree about the 1D songs, I never really listened to 1D (other than how everyone my age did, in the sense that the music was everywhere so you picked stuff up) so I wasnt that familiar with WDBHG but Louis made it fun! I'd be fine with only one 1D cover (especially if it gave us headline, common people or TTWLG which im keeping my fingers crossed will get rotated in)

The production was really good, I'm a fairly new fan so haven't seen too much of Louis' last tour (mostly just clips) so it was really cool to see all the screens and lights. You can tell a lot of thought goes into making it feel cohesive.

I was soooo pleased to hear Copy, it's just SUCH a good song and he looked confident singing it.

Also back to you!!! I really didn't expect that, it was such a good version. And "Miss you" was one of the first Louis songs I discovered and really loved (very late discovery as this was like...last year? Haha) and I've always thought it would be SUCH a great song to experience live so that gives me a bit of hope that maybe we'll get a version of it at some point on this tour. (Whishful thinking maybe!)

Also got to mention going from saved by a stranger (Also so good) to WAOYF...the emotional whiplash!!!! It worked though!

Honestly, I could probably run through every song with something I liked (I've barely mentioned HOTH and Saturdays and silver Tongues!) but I've already ranted in your inbox enough but what a great first show!!!! So excited for the next one!!!

I'm glad to see the greatest appreciation, it was one of my favs at first listen too. Louis writes the best tour openers. He really did transport us to another world with sibwawc didn't he 😌 his mind is just superior. The production was mind blowing and a true step up from last tour (ltwt's production was still amazing though). Copy is a masterpiece no doubt about that the imagerie of the lyrics is insane. BTY in 2023? If someone told me that before the show i would never believe them but it made me so happy for many reasons. There is hope for miss you after all 😭 ( i think at some point he's going to replace bty with miss you and if it happens idk how i'll survive). There was so many surprises last night but honestly the biggest one for me was him singing saved by a stranger ❤️‍🩹(the bravery, the grace!!). Not only that he also made it kind of rock and followed it with waoyf (that fan in the live stream who was silent the whole time but felt the need to shout "can we pls go back to fucking" instead of " loving" didn't go unnoticed🔪🔪). Tbh, i always thought if he really had to perform a 1d song, night changes would be a good one (his solo is so angelic in it) and i enjoyed it when he performed it in the past. But this time, even i was surprised that the 1d covers didn't work for me. I think fitf is just a beast on a whole other level and performing 1d songs among such a brillant setlist emphasizes the quality differece between Louis' solo songs and the band's, sorry. Night changes followed by Chicago and wdbhg put between ooms and saturdays (and then silver tongues) was almost humilating for them if it weren't for Louis' perfect delivery and witt (and angelic voice). I can talk about the show forever and in detail about each and every song but i didn't want to make this any longer. Faux religious angst and other BS. E.g. The Jedi Purge as the English Reformation. I mean, regular people in SW don’t seem to care much about religion either way, but I already like to picture the Jedi as western style space monks. So it’s not much of a step from that to see the purge being presented to the citizens of the galaxy as a way to rid them of religious as well as political corruption. I’ve probably mentioned before here that I do a lot of work on Welsh Methodism and the Revival movement, and I love to picture Uncle Owen���s anti-Jedi stance through that kind of lens. Like, you know, the Force is all ‘bells and smells’ for the Jedi. In the Outer Rim it’s about doing an honest day’s work and being glad of it. 

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

Anakin carried that river stone around with him everywhere.

U - Three favourite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favourites.

Spock (TOS). There is all the inner angst of Spock reconciling the Vulcan and Human parts of himself. And he always has the best lines.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars). Another sarky guy using his outward calm to mask the mess he is on the inside.

Clark Kent (Superman). Again, on the outside an unflappable hero. On the inside a neurotic mess.

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! 

The coolest thing about SW fandom is the never ending stream of amazing action figures. My day job is making / selling dolls and miniatures, so I can be fannish about SW in multiple ways right now. One the one hand, Obikin smut! On the other, making little aurebesh packaging and regular blogging about the latest releases. :D

alright! I will say I am not the best archiver for their lore because I have only joined on the bandwagon 3-4 months ago due to dream thirdwheeling their date nights and I realized "Oh?? what's going on Here??" and kept watching I've put all of the things Ive noted under a readmore forewarning its a LOT also this link has a lot of cute tunashark moments condensed

I am not quiet certain how they started exactly but I know the most notable thing in their history of spending time together is their stardew save, they've been playing stardew since around the start of this year end of last year? and this vod

has a lot of their early relationship condensed, they are friendly, bickery and cute with each other

and then somewhere a long the way of spending 8 hours a day with each other they realllyyy started to be cute and simpy - they really are a reality check for what flirting looks like and how DNF are doing the same exact thing haha

my conversion date was a stream on june 16th that was an mcc?? practice stream I THINK?? where foolish was streaming and hanging out with Tina (of course) and dream joined so of course I hope on stream to listen to dream but dream doesn't say a SINGLY word, awesame and punz were there too but they got thirdwheeled SO hard that they started copium flirting with each other only for tunashark to just crush them

Tina does this thing like dream where she has no filter and just word vomits her thoughts and she went on like 2 separate rants on how amazing and great foolish is (you'll notice this is a constant thing with them btw) and while Tina does tend to do that with her friends....she's never went on about how dry their lips are right afterwards

I remember punz vividly going "uhuh...foolish's dry lips..." at the end of her rant about how awesome foolish is and how dry his lips are

punz btw only joined to get awesam to play a game with him but they stuck around to watch their mating dance, sam tried to make a bit about how punz invited him to a restaurant date so when is their date (the game they were supposed to play) and Tina literally went off on him like "YOU CRASH OUR TIME AT THE RESTAURANT AND YOURE COMPLAINING"

They always stare at each others faces btw which is great they try to hide it of course but when one of them has cam on you can tell when they are staring at each other and here is this cute part of the vod as proof 3:22:0 - 3:24:00

basically in this clip foolish was going to end if he didn't find anything to do, and he was trying to think of things to do because he didn't want to end the stream, he asks Tina if she wants to play stardew but she doesn't answer him presumably because she is afk - he starts pouting and tells everyone in vc to just ignore Tina when she comes back , Tina comes back and is mildly confused for like 3 seconds before she IMMEDIATELY points out that foolish is grinning and how he is a bad actor and he just CRUMBLS in the cutest way possible

just adding more moments that showcase just how much time they spend together, they genuinely are like dream and George with the 10 hour phone calls except we get to see it happening

in the stream this clip is from they cant decide on a game to play and several times Tina thinks about leaving the stream, that's how this conversation even comes up

but then she comes up with a game she wants to play and is very excited to play with friends and its the garfield themed mariokart ripoff with TERRIBLE controls

Quick question and you don’t need to answer it anytime soon if you don’t feel like it, but do you know of any other Guilty Gear fanfic writers on Tumblr? So far i’ve only found you and i’m curious if there’s more out there!

I'll admit I don't know too many personally, it feels like there's only a handful of people who write for GG more than once or twice and I'm amazed I don't know more of them, I'm not sure if some of them just aren't on Tumblr or if I'm just not looking well enough, I'm not certain.

B~U~T I'll always take an excuse to plug my dear friends, because I love them and their work is great!

For starters, @rex101111 has some of the best concepts and the best dramatic writing I've ever read! He's really good at capturing emotions and also does really excellent action scenes. I don't know anyone who can do both serious stuff and lighthearted slice of life and do both so well! A couple of personal recs are 'Ch'io mi scordi di te?' (Which I still maintain is a better-written conclusion than all of Strive) and 'Swipes of Sword and Fan.' His thing is usually Anji and Baiken, and as someone who originally wasn't much of an Anji fan his stuff singlehandedly endeared the guy to me just from how well he was written.

And next, @fauslayer! The specialty here is Faust stuff, and boy howdy does the style compliment is brilliantly! It's a bit hard to describe, but he captures the man well in how it flows as a stream-of-consciousness narrative, which is something that comes up a lot across different works. Many of his fics have an intriguingly surreal, dreamlike feel. Also a rare instance where Faust and Baldhead really do feel like the same person fundamentally, just at very different places in life. And despite the surreal tones it portrays him in a very grounded, realistic way that makes him easy to connect and empathise with. 'Do No Harm' is a VERY easy recommendation, as is 'Start as Dreams.' But admittedly they're all fantastic, plus since a lot of them are on the shorter end they can be read one after the other

Michael Amott – Arch Enemy – interview (Louder than War 2022)

Michael Amott, ex-Carcass and Arch Enemy founder is about to head out on a tour. Neil Johnson has a chat with him about the old days of underground extreme metal, the new Arch Enemy record and their new tour with Behemoth and Carcass.

Michael Amott has been around in the extreme metal scene before there was even a scene. One of the founding fathers of melodic death metal, his style helped forged the genre into what it is today. From playing student squats in the 80’s to huge tours packing out arenas today. It was an absolute honour to talk with Michael about that journey and his approach to life.

LTW: I’d like to start by asking you a broad question. I was looking at the records that you’ve been a part of over 30 years. I’m curious what’s changed in that time for you, in the metal scene.

Well, a lot has changed, in the beginning I had no idea about anything. You just want to make music, you know, like every other young musician. I’ve changed as much as the scene has.

And the music landscape has changed as well. You know some for good, and some for bad.

LTW: I saw an interview, with you recently and you were talking about your love of vinyl, and it made me think back to that time too, going to buy a new record was an event where I would save up and then I would go and buy it. What’s your connection to those old formats?

I can remember that those days. You know, you’ll be waiting for that, that record to be in your record store that you collected from. And it was a big event.

I think music and intellectual property isn’t as, as respected as it used to be though.

LTW: There are so many things competing for people’s attention these days. Does that change how you think about releasing new records?

We do as many different things as we can with Arch Enemy. I started in the old school, I’m still very much in that physical album way of thinking. Like a complete piece of work. These days there’s a lot of focus on streaming and the YouTube videos and the digital releases.

We do very well with that, we have a wonderful team that really help us kick ass in the digital space. For me, I’m more in love with music than I am with a format though. I write songs and we put these songs together as an album, but you can’t tell people how to listen to your stuff. That’s down to them.

Do you care about the streaming numbers? Does that stuff bother you?

Only the good ones, right? we’ve been very lucky with all of that. We tend to put out physical collectors’ items that we put a lot of effort into, beautifully packaged you know? People stream the music and collect the items too. I think it’s a perfect place to be right now, the combination of streaming and other formats too.

LTW: You played on two of my favourite records. Deceivers with Arch Enemy that was just released this year and way back in 1993 you were with Carcass and played on Heartwork. Given that there has been almost 30 years between those records, I’d like to know how different they were to create?

30 years!! That’s crazy. But yeah, so much time has passed, you know, back with Carcass Bill and Jeff had a way of doing things and I was just a part of their group. I submitted a lot of ideas for the Heartwork album but Bill and Jeff were writing their record. They credited me for my ideas on a lot of songs and it was a lot of fun, but I didn’t have creative control from start to finish you know?

I’m very proud of Heartwork and it’s proven to be a bit of a classic album in the genre, but I really wanted to do my own thing. I wanted to control the process from scratch and then build them up to the, the finished thing.

LTW: It sounds like that’s what drove you to create Arch Enemy?

Definitely, I wanted to lead my own project, I wanted to be more in control of the writing process. You know, at the same time being a part of Carcass was great, they took really great care of me and the whole experience was amazing, you know, three, four years, whatever it was.

LTW: Carcass are supporting you with Arch Enemy on the new tour right?

That’s right. Yeah.

LTW: That must be pretty crazy?

We’re still good friends. We did some reunion shows in the. Late two thousands. We came back together for a while. The band had been disbanded for a long time before that.

LTW: Are you even a tiny bit tempted to ask Bill and Jeff to play on some of those old Carcass songs during their support slot on the tour?

Hah! Maybe, that could be really cool. We’ve not talked about that, but who knows right?

LTW: In 2004, guitar world ranked you was the 74th out of a hundred best metal guitarists of all time. Do you care about that kind of thing? And would you be higher or lower almost 20 years later?

I think those kinds of lists are a bit weird, I don’t know how they decide. Arch Enemy is a much more popular band today than we were back then, so maybe they’d rank me higher? I don’t know!

I still play guitar every day like I’ve always done, but I don’t focus on technical aspects I just love playing.

LTW: You’re self-taught. Right?

Yes, self-taught before the internet!

LTW: On your Wikipedia page, it suggests that Arch Enemy was only supposed to be a one-off project, but a surprise airplay of Bury Me An Angel on Japanese TV resulted in a Japanese record label wanting to sign you?

It sounds such an unlikely story, I had to ask you if it’s true or not?

Yeah, that does sound a bit unlikely considering everything that followed, but you know what, I think it’s pretty much true. I had these song ideas and there was more of a project feel to it in the beginning.

Until we did the photos for the album, I was the only person that knew everybody and connected everybody, you know?

I wanted to do a really heavy record again, I’d been away from it for a couple of years after leaving Carcass. I had these songs, and somebody offered me a little record deal and I was like, okay why not?. So, I connected with Daniel who still plays drums in the band to this day. We only rehearsed four times or something like that before we went in and tracked the drums and recorded the album. The whole thing took nine days or so.

It was kind of fast and then after that, I was just really satisfied that we’d done it. I was really happy with how Black Earth came out.

When it first came out, we didn’t have a big label, just two guys and not much money, so nothing really happened for a while. Nobody really noticed us. Then an A&R guy from Japan who remembered my stuff from Carcass got in touch and wanted to put the record out in Japan, so that part is definitely true!. We put a few extra bonus tracks on and it did really well, so they asked us to tour. We hadn’t played any shows, so we had to book some European shows to practice before we did it!

And I still work with that A&R guy to this day. He still puts out our music in Japan.

LTW: It’s crazy how these things work out. Black Earth still stands up as a great record today. Amazing to think you did that in nine days!

Did you have a plan after that?

No! Back with Carcass, we’d play squats and sleep on floors, even doing those early years, you know? We just had a great time in the extreme metal scene, if you can call it that at the time.

LTW: It’s not as glamorous as people think as it sometimes.

You know, I’m really happy I did all of that. Now when we tour, we have the tour buses and the trucks and all the crew and the stage production and the pyro and it’s cool but it’s been a really long journey.

Back when we started, extreme metal was tiny, nobody had heard about it. It wasn’t really a thing in the stores, it was all just passed around on tapes.

That’s how I used to get it. I remember getting the first Entombed album and the first Carcass stuff through underground tape traders in the 80’s.

It felt like being a part of something you know? Back then I couldn’t even have imagined something like Arch Enemy. I guess the secret of success is to not quit.

Wikipedia says that you’re vegetarian and I know the, the Carcass guys were too, are you still vegetarian?

Yes, I was for 34 years, but I’m not vegetarian anymore. I was very into the punk scene when I was young, it was very political. So, in 83, 84 I turned vegetarian. I guess you are more political when you’re young?

LTW: I think you get too tired to be political when you get old!

Ok, so next up some fun questions to see how much you can remember about how often you’ve played certain songs live.

What song do you think you’ve played live the most with Arch Enemy?

Oh, I don’t know.. maybe Nemesis?

LTW: Setlist.fm has it down as Ravenous?

Ahh yeah, of course, we always play that one!

LTW: Obviously, from Wages of Sin, but can you guess how many times you played it?

Haha! I don’t actually know how many shows I’ve played with Arch Enemy so this is really tough! I’ve no idea!

LTW: 829 times!! Isn’t that extraordinary?

Isn’t it!

LTW: Ok, so First Day in Hell was voted in the top five Arch Enemy songs, but…. How many times have you played it live? You only released it in 2017…

Yeah. So, considerably less, I guess, 200 times maybe?

LTW: Pretty close! 130!.

Looking at your live show history with Arch Enemy, in one year you played 114 shows but… what year was it?

2015? I remember that was when Alissa had joined the band that we put out War Eternal and hit the road really hard.

LTW: I think that the band and music seemed to change a little when Alissa joined? Did you feel that too?

Yes. Definitely.

Angela was phenomenal when she joined, but you know, slowly, you know, she kind of ran out of gas. When Alissa joined, we had somebody that really wanted to go big on the live show, she lives for the stage and to perform and to tour.

That’s exactly what everyone else in the band wanted to do to, so it was a perfect match.

LTW: What was it like to play that many shows to that many people? I guess the venues were a little more up close and personal back then?.

The demand for the band at that time was huge but it’s probably even bigger now. The venues larger but we play less shows though. Touring these days is complicated, you can’t just play where you want to, you have to play the right places which is a bit of a shame, I miss some of those old venues.

Back in 2015 we didn’t have all the trucks or anything really, it was just a tour bus and a trailer playing to 800 to 1200 seat venues.

That was one of my favourite times, I talk about that sometimes with, the other guys, that’s kind of the time I enjoyed the most and I think that’s because I love to play all the time, you know? And it’s great when you can do that.

LTW: Playing 114 shows in one year, I guess you didn’t have much choice but to play all the time!

It was fun, you know, there was no point going home, you just stayed out. As things get bigger, there is more of a business side to it, so you can’t just play all the time.

LTW: With a crazy touring schedule, like you tend to have, how do you relax and unwind when you’re on the road?

Believe it or not, we still enjoy each other’s company. Even if we get hotel rooms, we tend to all still go out an eat together. We’ve been together for over 25 years now, you’d think we would run out of things to talk about, but we don’t!

LTW: I saw an interview the other day where you described yourself as a collector. What are your favourite things to collect?

Well, I recently moved out of Sweden, and I had to get rid of a lot of things. I put a lot of stuff in storage as well. That’s when somebody called me a hoarder and I was pretty shocked actually, but then now I’ve embraced it!

LTW: In that interview, you mentioned owning two and a half thousand vinyl records. Are they collected from way back in the early eighties and nineties? Or is that something you’ve started more recently?

I never got rid of my records, and I still buy new ones, so it just keeps growing. I just love all of the obscure band merch, the rare t-shirts and patches and pins you know? All the noisy bands that I love tend to put a lot of that stuff out. I think it connects me back to my teenage years maybe? That underground culture, I still really get a kick out of that.

I don’t know if you’re supposed to let go of all of that. I’d love to be a minimalist, my brother and I know other people that are minimalists, they don’t save anything. I really respect that, but I just can’t do it.

LTW: Will you get a chance to collect things on the current tour? Are there favourite places that you, like to stop off, favourite record stores maybe?

Oh, yeah, absolutely. I like going to smaller towns when we have days off. I like to walk a lot when we’re in a city. I tend to break away during the day, find coffee and a record store. I just let Google Maps guide me home.

I really missed that stuff during the pandemic, it was weird to not be able to wake up in a new city every other day and explore. We spend so much of our time traveling and being on the road, it was weird to have that not happening, you know, for such a long time.

LTW: What does the new normal look like for you?

Things are really good, we’re just starting on a pretty extensive tour now, we’ve got six weeks in Europe and UK. And then we’ve got a month or so in Latin America. I think our flight goes straight after the last show in Oslo and heads out to Latin America.

LTW: It’s a big tour! I’m going to see you at the Birmingham UK show, I’ll be down the front for sure! Is, is there anywhere that you’re going on this tour that you’ve not been to before?

It is a big tour, with Arch Enemy, Behemoth and Carcass. We’re hitting all major cities and venues. Over the years, I think I’ve pretty much been everywhere, but I do love playing the more exotic places like the Latin American places.

We’ve been down there a bunch of times not never El Salvador, so really looking forward to that.

LTW: Maybe you’ll find a great record store over there? Well, thanks so much for taking the time to talk Michael and best of luck on the tour. I can’t wait to see you out there!
