Hey there! A little question: Why is everyone always accusing Loid of being gay for not kissing or doing all kinds stuff to Yor? I don’t think it’s as easy as they are making it out to be, even though both characters are a catch…..in a mixture of red/green flaggish kinda way. I actually prefer it that both characters aren’t lusting for each other as it makes their relationship more endearing but when they start developing feelings for each other, it’s beyond their attractiveness.

I ship the every living hell out of these two but if Loid does all of those intimate stuff Yor now, I don’t know, it feels less cute, rewarding, and heartwarming and more like a fulfillment of our personal desires. I don’t think Loid is a surrogate or self insert incel character to be like that. I’m sorry if I can’t put it into words, English isn’t my strong suit but that how it feels to me.

Hi, it took me a while to respond but here it is!!

I think it's the fans' rush for couples to consolidate and there's no way to blame them, because really Twiyor is one of the good couples! The Spy x Family universe internally moves in a slow-moving manner, where events are small and focus more on the development and formation of bonds between people. There is no great interest in big events, and getting a romance is not the focal point, but a part of the story.Endo's narrative moves under its own rules and some may like it or despair.

I have read dozens of comments that talk about how slow the story is and that there is simply progress at the speed of a turtle. And yes, they are right (in part).

But the truth is that this is more a conflict of fan expectations and what the story wants to tell and how it is told.The story is not badly written and not badly developed. But not everyone may like it if you are expecting more significant advances.

So, yes, Loid is very slow and Yor very naive.... But...

that doesn't mean there's no love or that it doesn't come to pass.

I understand the frustration of the Twiyor shipper, and it is the conflict of what we interpret as intimacy and closeness. In most conventional romances, intimacy is forced through physical contact, often exaggerated or convenient. Holding hands, hugging, trying to kiss, asking each other out. The story focuses on pushing the characters to get closer and with them to generate a closeness that leads to romance.

That's why most fanfic is about them being in love or having closeness, because that's what we most want to see between them… That's why many see this romance as insipid.

Endo's approach is more emotional, calmer, where trust between two people is more important than whether they are close or not. The times when this is forced, it ends badly. The fact that Loid respects Yor enough to not make her feel uncomfortable, or that Yor wants to be Loid's refuge, speaks of a very balanced mental and emotional intimacy.

It is a more mature romance, where the focus is not so much on passion. Because when they try to make it romantic, they're both fools.

I think Endo is just trying to put his own idea of romance outside of what everyone expects, and that can bore some people.

I suppose Endo will develop his relationship in his own way. But his main priority is the development of his people through a more everyday and chaotic life, above the spectacularity and action.… until we can finally be together

GRGRGRGRG FINALLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO INFODUMP ABT HIM!!! tysm @makifishcake and prepare for a long ramble abt best boy ever (to me) and why saijun is real... let's start with an introduction to a canon crossover character only The Loser (me) cares about! this is gonna get messy in writing near the end cuz its like 3 am for me rn.

Kouno Jun is one of the two protagonists of Asou-sensei's older work, Our Hero Studies and is one of Haganeno Ken's students at Holy Lance Academy (a private school that either exists the same town as Saiki or some neighboring one)

The only translated OHS chapters so far show us who Jun and Haganeno are as characters. Kouno Jun's a generic tsukkomi high school student with normal teenage boy interests and crushes... he's baby and a total boyfail.

Jun likes video games (Kaisou Monogatari, an in-universe franchise), ramen, melon soda and Yayumi - the class rep. Pretty normal dude that's just being constantly bothered by his classmates and the teacher he hates...

...and then there's Haganeno Ken - THE delusional cosplayer hero wannabe teacher with huge interest in roleplaying and RPG video games, who immediately takes a liking to Jun, mainly for his name (his name means shield, while Haganeno's mean sword. you see where i'm going?)

most of the ohs panels will be machine translated cuz i have no strength or motivation to continue my actual translation work ngnhnh one day maybe... 😔

He may look like a generic high school shonen manga protagonist, but it's actually really charming to me how adorable he can be despite the boring presentation lolol HIS CRUSH ON YAYUMI IS SO CUTE UGHNHNH

And yeah of course he shows up in Saiki bc WHY WOULDNT HE???

Asou-sensei put him there twice. In the Christmas chapter where he's walking with a girl (MOST LIKELY YAYUMI), sees Kusuo sitting alone and being like "haha that's so sad to be lonely on christmas lmao"... EXCEPT ITS HILARIOUS CUZ HE DOES THE SAME THING IN HIS OWN MANGA'S CHRISTMAS CHAPTER.

and in the Hero Studies crossover chapter, right at the end as an unused character. (wouldn't make sense to have two tsukkomis there tbh so i get it lolol)

Same thing happens in the anime except Jun in the Christmas episode wasn't animated like he's an actual pre-existing character, except just a background character so he looks different but has the same jacket with his initials so its definitely him.

his terrible sense of style was referenced by Takeru at one point as well. yes, Jun dresses terrible and he has outfits much worse than this. hes a loser and i love him

okay but what's with the saijun thing? orz

basically its a silly ship me and my lovely sweetest gf (@lu-kario ) came up with and it kinda stuck around. "omg haha what if the two protagonists from different manga dated" but yeah it became an actual thing with thought out scenarios between us.

Me saying it'd be like satousai but Kusuo finds someone "normal" with actual personality would be not giving this ship enough justice. I can't tell much rn cuz I forget 90% of the stuff i make up unless i write it down BUT all i'll say is that

I like to imagine Jun and Kusuo having a calm and nice relationship, lots of quality time spent playing video games or going out to get some ramen together. Kusuo gets to have someone more usual by his side and Jun isn't likely to be bothered by Ken when Kusuo is around (:3).

and yeah, they do get another scene together in volume zero! how lovely! the christmas episode is also one of the reasons i find the ship cool but even despite the sillies having canon scenes and illustrations together i like it simply for fun.

canon crossover ships are cool and epic

my final words: go read ohs its fully in japanese online and 5 chapters are in english so far.

seriously go read it the fandom doesn't exist its really lonely.

Punchline pt. 2/3 - Buggy / Reader

Ch. 2: Build

Summary: While you are on the run, Buggy reminisces about your unusual relationship.

Warnings: Angst, Kidnapping, Cussing, Alcohol, Mentions of Violence and Death, Reader is still kinda annoying here sorry

A/N: Went a lil' overboard (hehe) with that one. I am sleep deprived but on a mission for you guys. As always not proofread.

[ Two years prior]

"Take everything that's not nailed down!" Buggy ordered his men around as he stepped over the corpses of the enemy crew, "And don't you dare keep something for yourself!"

Oh, Buggy was mad, and not just in the literal sense.

He has eyes and ears everywhere after all, and got notice of a particular rumor going around.

Some no-name pirates had come up with the brilliant idea to kidnap Y/N Y/L/N, the daughter of some nobleman, hoping to squeeze him out of a good portion of his wealth for her return. The clown was almost jealous that he didn't come up with the idea himself...

...but that's even better, right? Now that they've done the dirty work, Buggy only needed to take her from them and collect the money.

"Who do we have here? Another freak for our show?" he scoffed, accompanied by his crew's conditioned laughter.

"P-Please" the other captain begged so soon it was almost boring to torture him now. Buggy laughed menacingly, janking the man by his hair with ease.

"The girl" he demanded, the blades in between his fingers only barely scratching the neck of his enemy. "Tell me where she is and I might even let you live."

Too afraid to utter a single syllable, the man pointed to the trap door that led to a part of the ship's basement.

"Thank youuuuu" the clown chanted way too enthusiatically as he dropped his victim, face thumping on the wooden planks with a loud bang.

Everything was a success up until now - Buggy's crew obliterated those pathetic wannabe-pirates, stole everything of worth and captured those who could be of use to him. And only to think about the ransom money he could get out of that rich asshole made Buggy feel like throwing a dissolute party tonight.

"I'm feeling generous today" he stated as he confidently strode towards his biggest treasure yet, "Everyone who'd rather work for me than die is free to join my crew."

The clown basically kicked in the trap door leading to a small chabin of the lower deck...

...what he found there however made his cheerful spirit disappear into thin air.

"What the heck" he blurted out as he jumped down to get a more proper look, seeing you cower in a corner of your prison.

It was a sight that made even the ruthless Buggy's insides churn.

A fragile yet stunning woman indeed - but those lowlifes had beaten you to a pulp. You were in an almost catatonic state, only reacting when Buggy came closer.

"P-Please, no-no more!" Blood was splattering out of your mouth while you whimpered and begged, flinching when the pirate reached out for you...

...but the hit never came. Instead, his hand carefully ghosted across your cheek, putting some strands of your hair out of the was as he assessed your face.

"Hey, doc!" he then roared, the sudden noise making you wince once again. "Move your ass here!"

Glossy eyes blinked up to the bizarre person towering over you, not daring to raise your hopes after the torment of the past few days.

Before you could even react, the man swiftly picked you up, a wide grin stretched across his face as he winked at you. "You're welcome, sweetheart."

Your intuition told you that you were safe now, so exhaustion soon got the better of you. Buggy watcher mutely as you collapsed right in his hold, his smug smile disappearing.

It was awfully quiet on board when the clown ascended the stairs with you in his arms. He wordlessly let you down on a stretcher, two of his men carrying you onto his ship so he could attend more urgent affairs again.

"So..." Buggy turned around, now again wielding his knives in both hands, "I'm thrilled to hear why you morons would beat the girl so that not even her own father would recognize her! Better choose your words wisely."

"B-But you said you'd have mercy!"

"I also said I'd die my hair pink but here we are" the clown shrugged, unimpressed by the other captain uttering countless excuses.

Still, all of a sudden Buggy just turned his back to the man and was on his heels, leaving his rival - if one could even call him that - appaled as well as speechless.

"Well then, farewell. Let's go guys!"

Even after a few minuted had passed and the Bog Top had set sail again, everyone was too stunned to believe what just happened.

"Boss?" Mohji was the only one daring to ask straight away, "Why did you decide to let them go?"

"Who said I did?"

And at that very moment, the enemy ship on the horizon blew up through several Buggy Bombs, his cheeky grin returning way more sinister this time.

"Now to business..." he giggled as he passed the celebrating crew, quite satisfied with himself.

Without even having the decency of knocking he stormed into the room you were brought to, seeing you sit on a cot bed with your knees pulled to your chest.

"Y/N was it, right? Already looking way less shitty than before!" he commented only to be rewarded with a gloomy look.

"Who are you?" your voice cracked several times mid sentence, and you were surprised by his consideration when the man in front of you offered a glass of water to treat your sore throat. Not caring whether it could be poisoned - hell, right now you'd drink piss for all you cared - you emptied it all in one go.

"Oh, you don't know me?" The pirate did a boastful pose as one of his feet stepped onto a barrel, chest swelling with pride as he introduced himself. "The name's Buggy. Buggy the Clown! The Flashy Funster, the-"

"Well, for your information: I'm also the future King of Pirates." You chose to not further comment on that statement. "So, young lady, now it's your turn to tell me why they messed up your face like that."

"Yeah, I can see that" you interrupted him in a matter-of-factly tone, visibly unimpressed.

Heh, he liked your guts already.

"You're one to talk" you spat venom at him, not feeling like complying - but commenting on his appearance crossed a line for the clown.

He slammed his hands to the wall right next to either side of your face, harshly grabbing your chin and forcing you to look up. "A bold gal for someone that just needed to get her ass saved from the brink of death just a few hours ago, ain't ya?"

"Alright, you want the truth?" you snapped back at the criminal, still refusing to meet his eyes. "My father no better than them! He's an abusive piece of shit that's probably glad his troublesome burden of a daughter is finally not his problem anymore. So there's not one berry to gain from me, which is why that other captain let off some steam on my face. Got it? You happy now?"

"...you're lying. Don't you dare fucking with me-"

Just as he pointed a threatening finger in your direction, you slapped his hand away and pulled a crumbled letter out of your torn sleeve. There it was, black on white, an official seal decorating the bottom right corner of the paper - very formally written, but your father basically told them you're not important enough to pay for.

For a whole while, nothing but silence accentuated Buggy's dumbfounded expression.

"Are you fucking kidding me?! All this work for nothing? Shit! Godfuckingdamnnit!!" Tears began dwelling in your eyes once again, knowing very well this was the opposite of what he wanted to hear. Buggy was already in the middle of a violent ourburst, cussing and destroying furniture left and right.

Pirates are all the same, or so you thought.

"Do me a favour and just get it over with" you asked unnaturally calm when the clown was done letting out his frustation - after all, you had already prepared yourself for the worst back with the other pirates. "Throw me overboard, shoot me, or whatever."

"Wha- the hell are you talking about, woman?!" Buggy facepalmed, rubbing his face to become clear-headed again. "Why the fuck would I do that? I'm not a monster."

For some reason, his whole demeanour caused you to crack a smile in this surreal situation. "If that's the case, you really should consider changing your wardrobe."

How dare you aggravating him beyond belief, after just ruining what should've been his biggest win yet?

God, Buggy had a feeling you were just as insufferable as he was - no, worse...

...it kind of grew on him already, though.

"Haha, very funny." Crossing his arms in front of his chest, the pirate sighed mentally before stating "Too bad for you, but I'm the only jokester around. We're dropping you off at the next best port and that's it."

"Wait-!"

Buggy stopped in his track, his hand already on the doorknob when you called out for him.

"I-I...have nowhere to go." You nervously fumbled with your hands, quietly adding "And I certainly won't go back to my father."

So bratty before and now acting all submissive - not that he minded it. "Your point being?"

"Can-could't I just stay with you guys?"

A loud, kinda unsettling giggle filled the room as Bucky slapped his knee and simultaneously held his stomach while laughing.

"Now that was a hilarious joke! But I like your guts!" He scoffed all boastful, wiping a methaphorical tear from one eye. "Wanting to be fed through, but in what way exactly would you benefit the team?"

You hissed like a cornered cat when the clown's face was suddenly just inches from yours, taking in your appearance from head to toe. "Everyone needs to play a part in my circus, dear."

"I..." you seemingly debated something mentally before ultimatively answering "I can sing. Is that good enough?"

"Mhh? Might've to hear it to decide" Buggy answered, admittedly intrigued if you actually had a talent for music. "Well, I guess there's always something to do on a ship this big. And I have a big heart, after all."

"Hopefully as big as your nose" you retorted without thinking first, but as always your mind catched up on your mouth way too late.

You swear to have heard his head crack as he moved it from left to right, clenching his jaw before turning to you once again.

"I-I'm sorry..." It wasn't like you were scared, the opposite even - for a split second you saw actual hurt in the man's eyes and it made you sick with guilt. "You saved me, and I'm so impolite. I- it was a rough few days. I didn't mean to be mean, really!"

God, why can't you ever shut up for heaven's sake? Joking about one's obviously biggest insecurity and now...with every word you're probably only making things worse!

And if only you knew the horrible consequences other people had to face for less than this comment...

...but it seemed that somehow, Buggy had a soft spot for you already.

"Oh" he finally opened his mouth, voice cutting through the thick air. "As soon as you're healthy again I'll have you clean every toilet on this ship" he grumbled, yet failed to be as furious as he'd usually be with others.

"Deal." You cracked a smile, being rewarded with him unwillingly mirroring it. Ignoring your pain and discomfort, you tried bowing a little before adding "Oh, and again, properly this time: Thank you for saving me. I'm really grateful, Buggy."

"From now on, that's 'Captain' to you."

[Present time]

"...I almost forgot that she was a pain in the ass from the very start."

Your now-kinda-ex-lover currently did what he could best - drowning his sorrow in cheap liquor. Gosh, one would think he'd be used to that crippling feeling of inadequacy and loneliness...

...but your words still echoed through his mind, as if taunting him for letting someone peek behind his prideful mask.

He threw another empty bottle through his room, the glass shattering on impact with the wall. He rubbed his aching temples, concluding the mess would be a problem for future Buggy.

Yes, in more than one way you and him had been alike - you simply had the privilege to be born pretty.

He had thought you to be a spoiled brat in the beginning, but quickly realized that this first impression of you couldn't have been more wrong.

Ever since he saved you back then you had worked your ass off every single day, not once questioning orders from the man that had given you a new chance at life.

There was always a cheerful atmosphere on the ship and everyone had welcomned you with open arms, so you weren't afraid of those apparent 'freaks' in the slightest...

And while you couldn't deny that this man was insane in more way than one, it was hard to believe him and his crew to be the ruthless criminals they depictured themselves as.

They were simply lost souls that were treated ill just for being different, now seeked out revenge. A cycle of hatred, how sad.

But Buggy had rightfully concouded that while alone they may be weak, but together they could achieve everything.

A 'King of Freaks' they looked up to, who accepted them as they were, gave them a home and purpose - just like he did with you.

...quite the opposite even: You fit right in.

With them, you found an unusual family - yet one you always wished to have.

Talking about the past didn't come easy to you, which was another thing you and the captain had in common.

Merely when you were almost blackout drunk and Buggy had to carry you to your room you had let some details slip, hanging onto his coat maybe a little too tight since he was the only person in the world that made you feel safe.

Told stories about a mother you never got to know, passing away during childbirth. How this man you wouldn't even call a father resented you for it - more likely because you weren't born a male heir.

Back then you were insulted, beaten and humiliated on a daily basis. Treated like a slave and sometimes wouldn't see the daylight for weeks as your father prefered to hide his greatest failure.

Admittedly, you had him wrapped around the finger since the beginning - and it didn't take long until you unknowingly had his heart in a chokehold.

Deemed a failure from the very start...

...trust doesnt come easy to those who have been failed repeatedly - Buggy of all people understood first hand.

At first he found your subtle stares unnerving, mistaking it with the degrading looks he knew all too well...

...yet at one point not even his inferiority complex could stop him from noticing the way your face lit up every single time your eyes met.

While you didn't dare making a direct move on your captian you certainly did not try to hide your little crush for him either.

Moreso, you actively seeked out his company whenever possible, despite all of his efforts to scare you away...

...until he had grown fond of your presence, no - until the two of you had become practically inseparable.

To Buggy, you had one of the brightest laughs that ever graced his ears. And oh, how he loved making you smile through both words and actions. You were so blissfully naive when it cames to his jokes and little pranks, and in opposite to his crew or the usual hostage audience, your outbursts of laughter came from the heart.

It was a mutual benefit, really: Buggy managed to get your reserved self out of your shell, showing you a whole new world with endless possibilities for your former oppressed character to develop...

Even long before you became official, you'd share whole nights together, both as vulnerable as you'd never been before. You'd lull him to sleep with your voice, with his head resting on your lap and your fingers entangled in his blue locks.

...and simultaneously, you brought out the best inside of him as well. Putting up with all of his shenanigans, humbling him if necessary.

And frankly, he needed to be brought down to eart again a lot, so at least once it was good that you had no filter.

Little did you know that he was just as whole heartedly enarmored with you, yet fought it both for your sake and to protect his own heart.

For months, you were wondering if a man of his calibre would even reciprocate those inferior sentiments.

After all, those tender moments you shared were exclusively after both of you shared a fair amount of alcohol - and Buggy chose not to talk about it afterwards.

Buggy remembers it like it was yesterday when he caught you all alone on deck, staring into the night sky with yearning in your eyes. You were clearly shivering due to the cold breeze, until suddenly Buggy's severed hands threw his coat over your shoulders.

You greeted him with an affectionate smile, waving the rest of the clown over. He was looking very plain for his standards, with neither makeup nor accessories and his hair tied into a messy bun.

For a while, the two of you enjoyed the starry sky and salty ocean air together - until Buggy broke the comfortable silence.

"You know, you could leave" he suddenly spoke, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "Huh? What makes you think I want to?"

"I don't know" he admitted, looking anywhere but your eyes. "You're pretty. Talented. Stronger than you look like. Maybe you'd be better off without some lousy freaks dragging you down."

"Never say something like that again!" you poked his chest as you scolded him. "Without you guys I wouldn't even be still alive! You gave me freedom, a purpose and have been so kind to me all this time, even though I'm nothing but a burden..."

"And I thought I'm the fool here" he chuckled softly, finally looking up from the spot on the ground his eyes were glued on. "To the crew you're like a ray of sun in the middle of a storm! And you're also our star act, besides me obviously. So what makes you think like that?"

Weird. He was behaving so different from his usual self...

...did he care about your feelings after all, or was that just wishful thinking?

"Well, I'm still not a real pirate. You went out of your way training me, and yet- I mean I can't even bear to see people hurt! How's that useful in a profession like ours?"

"You're empathetic" he spoke softly, absentmindedly petting your head. "Something I lack, but not a bad trait. And you don't have to be useful. As long as you're-" Buggy cut himself off, gladly your mind catched up before your mouth would let something slip.

"As long as what?" you repeated his words, and feeling caught his heart instantly dropped into his stomach. "C'mon, you can't be that oblivious."

You only knitted your brows together in confusion, just like every time when you didn't get the punchline to a joke of his. Adorable, it never failed to warm his heart.

"...as long as you're with me, I guess." Your jaw dropped at this almost-confession, just looking at him with a deadpanned expression.

"That's good" you uttered with a shaky breath, "Because I didn't plan to leave the man I love."

Silence.

"Wait- what?!" Actually, he was waiting for a 'just kidding' from your side. You had an awful sense of humor, after all - and this was just too good to be true.

His reaction did nothing to calm your nerves. After you finally found the courage to confess he wants you to say it again?!

Clenching and unclenching your fists, gulping several times to get the feeling of a lump out of your throat.

"I said I'm in love with you, Buggy!"

Dwelling in those memories did in fact make the hurt of today even worse, he deduced after he could finally tear his mind away from the past.

Buggy buried his face in his hands, mentally preparing himself to step in front of his crew again. Maybe he should redo his smeared makeup, so he wouldn't look like the perfect picture of misery in front of his men.

You're still out there, after all - and all alone in a pirate infected island at that.

"Bring me one more!" Buggy commanded no one in particular as he staggered onto the deck, his crew frightened as they were aware of his current mood. "B-Boss, we're all out. You drank-"

Buggy sucked in a pained breath, ready to let out his built up turmoil of emotions at anyone that would dare make another sound...

...until Cabaji returned with grim news:

"We found her, boss. She-" he paused, knowing his next words might get him into an awful situation.

Immediately, the clown grabbed his subordinate by the collar of his shirt, his severed hands lifting him up with ease. "Where is she, huh? Tell me!"

"Y/N, she- she's with the strawhats."

i'm just disappointed that the fandom latched onto the marauders and teens and do the most boring gay male ships imaginable out of them while basically no one but me thinks that the dynamic between lily and petunia is interesting to explore. disappointed but not surprised, because i know the fandom thinks writing (bad, homophobic) out of character yaoi is more fun than exploring literally any female characters (especially if they can't write sex into it). disappointed nonetheless.

You and me both. I'm doubly interested in Lily and Petunia's relationship because i can't stop myself from comparing it to Jo and her sister Dianne's relationship. (Truly, in general, siblings relationships fly under the radar a lot in this fandom, it's all about shipping, but when you look at canon the deepest and messiest dynamics are all familial. And it makes sense for a child lit series, i think! Fairy tales follow that very pattern, romantic issues rarely feature in them, even when the pursuit of a love interest is central to the plot; whereas parents and siblings are more complex, they can be the hero's strongest ally or enemy.)

Anyways, i'm endlessly fascinated by the fact that Jo mimicked her own familial structure with the Evans specifically, and the character she put in her own position - the older sister - is Petunia, who is jealous of her younger, prettier and kinder sister and of her literal magical powers.

I mean, it could have been the opposite, right? The older sister could have been Harry's talented and beloved deceased mother, but that's not the choice Jo made. We'll never know if she did it consciously or not but imo it kinda gives out a self-deprecating nature. I'm only speculating but it's possible she at some point shared some of the feelings of resentment Petunia has for Lily. We know from interviews that the Rowlings had a bizarre way of referring to their daughters as "the Smart One" (Jo) and "the Pretty One" (Dianne) which without overblowing it doesn't feel like something that would have been good for either of their self-esteem.

However, unlike Lily and Petunia, JKR and her sister are very close, in fact Dianne Rowling was the one who helped her after her first marriage ended and she came back to the UK. She dedicated Philosopher's Stone to her (alongside her mother and daughter). So perhaps she built Petunia as a version of herself that could have existed had she been unable to move on from old hurt or rivalry (again, all of that is speculative and my own musings).

Regardless of biographical connections, i find Petunia a very compelling character. Vernon Dursley is a great caricature (whose echoes continue to entertain in Jo's later adult books), but Petunia feels real past the satire. The way i see her, she's a deeply self-hating person who clings to "normalcy" because she feels abnormal inside. People don't naturally like her, she doesn't have Lily's charisma and easy personality, she's difficult. When she calls Lily a "freak", it's obviously a projection, she uses the insult she secretly would apply to herself. It doesn't make her too dissimilar from the likes of Hermione (especially since Hermione was supposed to have a little sister too!), and so i can't help but find her a bit sympathetic, despite her terrible life choices, cowardice and refusal to self-reflect. Much like Snape, she was terrible to Harry but she also saved his life.

im thinking about johan tonight bc i was drawing him and i wanna talk abt him. bear with me. I REALLY LIKE JOHAN . TO START THIS OFF WITH i have an official licensed johan "WHERE AM I" shirt and i adore it its really funny also i used to have like a johan pin i bought from a german anime store and it was like 8 euros but i shipped it off to my friend who is really really crazy about johan

anyway johan. jessejohan. i like johan so much believe me he is my nordic scandinavian brethen i just think his writing has issues mainly that he has like no real relationships outside judai and like. i know as a gay person -- i am literally a lesbian In A Lesbian Relationship In Real Life -- that characters will become more likeable when they're queer coded bcuz its Different and its relatable. however i think his writing is kind of really weak and i quote this thing my friend said in 2022 like a lot

but the most offensive thing abt it writing wise is like in season 4 when they duel against trueman sorry it was fujiwara. okay i was rewatching gx ages ago and my ex was watching it with me and it was her first time seeing it and shes a literature major and when the whole. "what is the darkness in johan's heart" scene, AFTER IT WAS ESTABLISHED EVERYONE, EVERY STUDENT INCLUDING MANJOUME SHO ASUKA O'BRIEN ETCETC has darkness in their hearts,

my ex goes "if they reveal that he has no darkness in his heart because hes such a special boy im going to be so fucking mad because hes already a mary sue" (HER WORDS NOT MINE she was so mad about johan its funny.) AND THEN THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO

like he is literally too perfect. his only flaw is his one (1) time thing about getting lost which is never really brought up again (also its more of an endearing haha funny thing and yes i like it i have a shirt referencing that scene.) and the fact that.. he gets taken over i guess.

i do think the switch around where they bamboozle fujiwara is really funny. it is a funny scene i just wish they literally didn't do it at the cost of "johan is a perfect person without any mental weaknesses when literally every single other character has some flaws" I DONT GET IT!!!

I absolutely hate these kinds of posts so I thought I'd do it to see first hand how many people actually like it and care about other people's opinions on their ships so...

my arbitrary ratings of non canon pjoverse relationships and why I think they would never work (or would) (scroll down for canon)

perachel: 3/10 nothing but platonic vibes, their brief stint felt more like an experiment than genuine romantic feelings or attraction; they both deserved better

percico: 1/10 a reiteration of an earlier post: their relationship would get bogged down by unshared feelings and grief, plus nico's crush was just a crush, and percy never had feelings in the first place

perlypso: 0/10 their whole interaction was percy being half dead and calypso being manipulated, not to mention she cursed him

pereyna: 2/10 any het relationship with reyna feels icky to me, she just seems so queer coded (which makes sense cause she literally joined an ace club), and percy was so focused on annabeth when they first met it just doesn't seem fair to either of them

pipercy: 4/10 this is a FRIENDSHIP I wanna see them figuring out they're bi together so much platonic potential

jercy: 7/10 honestly if I had to put these two with anyone else, I would choose this ship solely for the tension in mark of athena and that an alternate ship name is person

percypollo: 0/10 icky, pedophilic, and honestly kinda homophobic. percy would never enter a relationship with a god anyway

pipabeth: 9/10 favorite non canon pairing, I can totally see a threesome with Percy, these two have such a great dynamic, only minus a point because I love percabeth too much

reynabeth: 4/10 they would be so powerful together, but feelings and emotional skills would be their undoing

theyna: 8/10 see reynabeth, but also I would love to see their similarities come to a head when they actually have to confront their feelings

apollo/reyna: 0/10 this is a thing?? ew???? reyna has such a huge issue with authority and the gods in general, it would never work, and see pereyna and percypollo

pipeyna: 7/10 would be good, but I need more info, though I think it would bring piper's jealousies to a nice full circle, especially if it was used in a way that helps piper figure out her sexuality

liper: 3/10 sibling vibes, I do not like

jiper: 5/10 that's right y'all, this isn't canon anymore! cute while it lasted, but they were completely made up and forced together by hera. that does not make a good, trusting relationship where one party is missing crucial details and the other remembers things that didn't happen, honestly i would have much rather they just ended it in lost hero when they realized hera was manipulating them

thaluke: 3/10 so much complicated history, I see them as ross and rachel from friends only worse

valgrace: 6/10 platonic mostly, but I can see it turning into something; I think they could definitely be good for each other; would love to see some healing centered stuff for them

valdangelo: 0/10 they barely interact, and their personalities are not the cute "opposites attract" it is straight up "we are both intensely traumatized, but in different, incredibly clashing ways"

haleo: 4/10 I can see it, but with sammy, it's just too complicated

fraleo: 5/10 I like the tension, but ultimately their personalities would clash too much

frazeleo: 10/10 this might be the only non canon ship I really wish was canon. separate, they are boring and clash with each other so much, but I think having the three of them together would provide a buffer when necessary while also keeping things fun and interesting

jasico: 3/10 very much a sibling relationship, seems to me like they were just shoved together because they were there

tratie: 10/10 floors me that they aren't canon

sally/poseidon: 2/10 sure it would work but she is an independent woman who wants less a man and more someone to love her and be there for her that isn't her son

ruegard: 8/10 would 100% ship it if i didn't love beckengard so much, plus i love the patrochilles parallels here

canon ships in order from least favorite to favorite:

zeus/hera: -10/10 sucks ass, their relationship is built on mistrust and a forced marriage, hera is quite literally shackled while zeus does whatever the hell he feels like while hera takes her anger out on anyone but him

god's/any of their affairs: 0/10 there's a reason none of them lasted

piper/shel: 4/10 another reiteration: ig it could be something, but it was literally a few paragraphs, and we know piper is experimenting with her sexuality, so it could be anything, not just a permanent romantic ship

caleo: 4/10 calypso needs some time to figure herself out and not be chained to a person or place; maybe they can try again after they both have some more life experience

frazel: 6/10 cute, but they're still pretty young, even by pjo standards, and compared to the other canon ships they're kinda dull imo, but i do love the awkwardness

beckengard: 9/10 absolutely love it, wartime romance, tension, dying for each other, trying for elysium for each other, only minus a point because one of them was a spy

sally/paul: 9/10 i love it, i'm so glad sally finally found a decent man, only minus a point because...adults

gruniper: 9/10 very cute, would be 10/10 but the start of their relationship felt kinda wonky to me like rick just wanted to pair grover with someone

solangelo: 10/10 adorable, checks all my boxes - opposites attract, healing from trauma, one extrovert one introvert, there is absolutely no downside

percabeth: 11/10 the OGs, the ship i use as a standard for all of my other ships no matter the fandom, still my absolute favorite ship, there was not a single bad track, they are so good for each other

the fandom interpretation of j0nerys is honestly so fucking boring, avuncular marriages are not uncommon in westeros so it doesn’t work as a forbidden romance either, what’s the point if there isn’t any hate-sex? 🙄😒 same with jonsa tbh, if jon doesn’t feel like he’s betraying ned and catelyn and GOD i don’t want it!

This ask is four days old and I can't believe I never saw it because that's EXACTLY my thoughts. If it's incest, it needs to be full of toxicity and guilt and weird consenst dynamics or I REBUKE IT!!

I actually have meta on whether avuncular marriages are considered incest or not in Westeros that's like 90% written (the answer is: it's kinda complicated and may even vary geographically?) but the fandom interpretation of like, Jonerys being the one good relationship either ever has before dying, the "sweet smelling" rose is sooooooo boring. Where is the Maegor-Rhaena "I love you because I believe you are owed to me and I'll show you by murdering your shitty weak husband and making you queen and making your daughter my heir" dysfunction?? Where is the Daemyra "My war mongering older relative grooms me into believing that the only way my enemies don't brutally slaughter my children is if I marry him and let him fight a bloody war in my name while also abandoning me because he can't deal with the cost of that war so the children he was meant to be protecting die anyway and then I'm eaten by a dragon" toxic sludge of a ship??

And as for Jonsa, I think I've mentioned it before a few times, but there's generally two camps for that ship, one that thinks its going to end happily and one that thinks its going to end tragically and I am firmly in the tragedy camp. I need Jon to think something along the lines that he's wound up being the exact sort of monster Catelyn always worried he'd be by ~seducing~ Sansa. I need him to cry in the godswood and beg Ned for forgiveness. I need him in the crypts touching the stone face of his mother and wondering if she'd hate him. I need religious worry from Sansa that she's damned in the eyes of her mother's gods. I need Sansa choosing between whether outing Jon's real parentage (and putting his life on the line as a Targaryen bastard) is worth the risk so they can marry legally, and decide it's not worth it and choose his life and freedom over being known as a Targaryen. If she's not weeping and telling him that his life is worth more to her GEORGE CAN KEEP IT. If it's not sad traumabonding while Bran and Arya are side eyeing because we all got trauma but seven hells you two fucking freaks, I would literally rather it just not be canon and them both to end single or Jon to end up with Aegon/Arianne and Sansa with Brienne LET ME LIVE.

I hope the natla writers don't go down the same route as the og atla by giving Zutara so many scenes and importance (atleast that's what it looks like). They have already made many changes interaction-wise with the characters that ended up being really good (like the Aang and Iroh conversations), I don't see why they can't do the same with the Book 2 and Book 3 content.

I don't have anything against the pairing, people can ship whoever they want, but it is kinda frustrating to see how much they seem to get in comparison to other Zuko friendships etc. I would like to see more emphasis put on the eventual friendship between Aang/Zuko and Sokka/Zuko, and fxf and mxm friendships in general, something I feel like the og quite lacked. Like, give me more bonding scenes between Katara and Toph please?!

Enemies to lovers is boring and overdone. I want enemies to best friends.

I think the NATLA team is, for the most part, reluctant to do anything with Zutara, but especially the actors and promotion team (the scarf scene wasn't even anything, Zuko's focus IMMEDIATELY goes to Aang right after and he basically leaves her to DIE under the NWT rubble. Also obviously the time he tried to burn her. He's far more vicious in NATLA than he ever was in the OG). They removed all the s1 Zuko-Katara scenes and I'm expecting pretty much the same for S2 & S3 too. One because the actors GENUINELY seem uncomfortable when its brought up as a ship, and two, they seem to be focusing more on expanding the Aang-Zuko interactions.

I would really enjoy more friendships and closer bonds too. I think the OG did very little with Zuko-Katara tbh, they have had like, three positive interactions that didn't end badly but shippers who are convinced that the universe has conspired against making Zuko/Katara are a thing exaggerate their interactions a LOT (personal opinion that will get me killed, I think every Zuko-Katara significant interaction has a parallel Zuko-Azula interaction and Azula & Katara's individual relationships to Zuko being juxtaposed to show family isn't about blood, this even carries through to the comics by paralleling Zuko-Sokka as big brothers). Zuko-Toph would be EPIC. Real missed opportunity there. Toph-Suki and Katara-Suki would be welcomed too, it's a bummer that Toph really didn't get to mingle in-depth with the extended gaang.

Yeah, I like enemies-to-best friends to, and I'd like to see those two's interactions being treated platonically (I hope randos in the writing room DO NOT push their ships onto characters, like, stop and be professional).

Hey, guys! Welcome to the Q&A for Star Trek: Athena.

This will be the first of many Q&A’s for STA. I’ve gotten a few questions that I hope will clear up things. Let’s get started!

Q1: What is STA?

It’s pretty much what it says on the box.

In keeping with Star Trek tradition, I’ve named this project Star Trek: Athena. It’ll be following the adventures of the crew of the USS Athena over the course of their three year mission.

Q2: When does STA take place?

So…here’s the thing.

We know that Star Trek has two timeline, TOS (Prime timeline) and AOS (Kelvin timeline.) The relationship between fans and the timelines…well it’s complicated. You either love it or you hate it or you begrudging like both of them. I’ve been fan since I was kid thanks to me discovering Star Trek while bored during the summer and looking for something to watch.

The problem is the story that I wanted to tell didn’t fit into the prime timeline because there is already so much packed in there so I ultimately gave up on it but then when I watched the 2009 Star Trek movie I realise that maybe I could make my story but still keep it Star Trek.

Thus, the idea for STA was born.

To answer everyone’s question, yes, it takes place in the Kelvin timeline. The story takes place in 2264 immediately after Star Trek Beyond.

Q3: Who is the crew?

Okay, so the crew is different. I kind of wanted a mix of both bridge crew and lower decks crew because I thought maybe it would be more interesting story wise. Star Trek Lower Decks did kind of influence a little bit of it but then so did The Next Generation.

I plan to release a crew profile soon so like you can get a preview of who is who and what their ranks are and what they do on the ship.

I had to do a lot of research both into the prime timeline and the Kelvin timeline about ldifferent ranks and ship classes and positions on the ship. So like I had a consult both memory alpha and beta, which was fun.

Keep your eyes out in the future because I will post a full post about our new characters - 8 of them in total - and then the minor characters.

Q4: What do you mean by ‘episodes’ being released?

Okay, I think we’re all familiar here with the format of Star Trek so I aimed to do something similar but in a writing form. It’s not a script or a fan made movie or anything like that. Think more on the lines of the novelisation of certain episodes of TOS, kinda like that but in a shorter format.

It’s going to be a three-year mission, so I am dividing this up into three seasons. I have everything already planned out and drafts are written. Each season will most likely have 10 to 12 episodes and I’m thinking of adding like a little short mini episodes probably like in between seasons just know small little stories or maybe like deleted scenes that I didn’t think made the final cut.

The first episode of STA will be posted on April 10. Hopefully there will be no delays but I look forward to everyone reading this because I’m really excited.

Q5: Why did you start this project?

For fun.

I’ve always been a very big fan of Star Trek, ever since I was kid.

It’s the kind thing that shaped me as a person. So it’s natural that I want write something as a tribute towards it

So came up with the idea of here’s my little star starship crew and they go off into space and there’s all these cool adventures but then they also learn these important lessons… i wanted it to be in spirit of the original Star Trek while adapting some of the newer aspects of modern day trek.

But then I was like okay this might be a stretch and I realised, is this just like me day dreaming or is this something I actually wanna do and then I formed the idea of STA.

Then you know they came with the whole hammering out all the details and deciding what I wanted to do and then finally I realised let’s put this in the kelvin timeline because you know there’s a lot of unknown about this timeline so it makes sense to have this crew in this timeline.

I hope I haven’t lost anyone on this but you have question, dont be afraid to DM me.

an interesting night at the hair salon

It’s not that you don’t enjoy cutting hair, it’s not that exactly—you can understand the benefits of being a great hairdresser, the people you meet, the different styles you get to master, the whole process of maybe helping someone feel like their very best selves. You enjoy talking to people, just like anyone else who might in a service industry job, like bartending or being a waitress, you like listening to the people in your chair tell their stories about their friends, family, jobs, relationships, drama—and then especially if they’re a repeat customer? You get to build a kinship with them, a smaller circle of family almost. You’ve had customers that have gone through milestones and you get to hear about them between washing and cutting—weddings, babies, funerals, you get cards over the holidays and bottles of wine sometimes just because. Not to even mention the customer that brought you the cupcakes on your birthday, that was something special.

So no, it’s not about the experience of doing hair…

It’s just sometimes? The day-in-day-out can become sort of daunting, boring, monotonous. Not to mention? You’re kinda in this silent rivalry with another girl who works at the salon, named Carly. She has the chair closest to the door so, in a way, unless someone requests you she picks and chooses who she wants to see, sending the rest down the row. You try not to have an attitude about it because everyone deserves to have a great haircutting experience, so you don’t treat anyone differently. But at the same time? Carly cherry picks the easy appointments, giving herself breaks and a longer lunch sometimes because of it, or scoops up hot guys while she sends the tiny grandmas all the way down to your chair.

No matter, right? Little does Carly know that the grandmothers usually have the best stories…and she’s gotten some homemade cookies out of it come second or third appointments. You’re just annoyed that she pretends she’s God’s gift to haircutting.

Slipping out of her chair after she checks the time on her phone, she moves to grab her bag and jacket. Your eyebrows draw together in confusion, “Where are you going?”

“Headed out for the night, Vic,” That’s her boyfriend, “and I want to try this new restaurant tonight.”

You open and close your mouth a moment, sitting up in your own chair, “We don’t close for another thirty.”

Carly rolls her eyes, “And look at this place,” She motions around, “It’s a graveyard, we don’t have any more appointments and no one else will be in for the rest of the night. You can handle it, right?”

God, you are biting your tongue so damn hard. It has nothing to do with whether you can handle it because, yes, obviously you can. It’s about the fact that the owner wants two people here at close and Carly once again is trying to sneak out just because she can.

“I mean, you don’t have any plans, do you?” She raises her eyebrows, waiting with bated breath for you to tell her the plans you have for your social life. Because she knows you don’t have anything going on tonight. Again, not the point.

“That doesn’t matter—”

“Thought so,” She smiles, waving over her shoulder, “See you tomorrow!”

“Bitch.” You mumble under your breath, shaking your head as you take your phone out and scroll Instagram while you wait for the clock to run out. There’s this taco place around the corner that you had for lunch on Tuesday and haven’t been able to stop thinking of since, so maybe you’ll go there when you close up.

Standing from the chair after about ten minutes of mindless scrolling later (you’re starting to see black dots in your vision so it’s probably best to stop), you hear the door open and hit the little bell that signals a customer. Sighing and tipping your head back, you should have locked the thing when Carly left.

“Sorry, are you still open?”

You bite down on all the nasty comments that want to slip out of your mouth because you’re cranky. Yes, obviously, the door is unlocked—

And then stop short when you turn and look at the person lingering.

You almost find yourself doing a double-take because no, it…it can’t be who you’re thinking of. Just a trick of the light or something or one of those really good lookalikes. Maybe a twin or…? Doppelgänger? Your mom is always telling you that everyone in the world has one to three people who look exactly like them. That’s probably what this is.

“Uh,” You clear your throat, “I’m actually getting ready to close.”

He steps in further and frowns, “This is gonna sound so—” He shakes his head, “I waited until the last minute to get a haircut and now I got this thing tonight that I’m already late to. You’d be doin’ me a huge favor.”

Chewing on your lower lip, taking a longer look at him and…you’re so sure. This is Austin Butler, right? The dude that played Elvis and was in that terrible zombie movie for a few minutes until his character was ripped apart? His hair isn’t dark, dirty blonde curls that are looking a little wild.

“What? Fancy Hollywood party?”

He laughs lightly, chewing on his lower lip. There’s this softest pink to his cheeks like he’s still not used to being recognized in public, “Somethin’ like that.”

Running a hand through your hair, you nod softly before motioning to your chair. Austin smiles and moves forward, taking a seat in front of you. Your eyes graze over his form in the mirror, the light pair of jeans he has on and a simple white tee—he’s so…relaxed. Honestly you’d never know he was this up-and-coming big-time name, apparently late for some sort of fancy event.

“Thank you.” He says as you grab the black plastic shawl to put around his neck. You respond with a small smile, gently waving him off. Not that big of a deal, just a trim (you’re assuming) and then you can grab tacos and head home for the night. “I’m Austin.”

“Y/N and I know,” You admit and you hope that’s okay? “I mean, I’ve seen some of your filmography. Just incredible in The Dead Don’t Die.” And while you’re kinda teasing? You think he’s pretty great in anything you’ve watched him in, there’s this laugh that comes forward from Austin’s chest—he hadn’t expected you to say that.

You smile at him in the mirror, reaching for a spray bottle, comb, and scissors. Putting the last two in your waist apron, you feel like there’s a bottle of butterflies spilling over in your stomach at the concept of running your hands through this man’s hair…literally the dream of so many people out there. You clamp down on being ridiculous, you’re a professional and you need to act as such but…still, doesn’t mean you can’t think about it.

“Glad you enjoyed that—not one of my most talked about things.”

“Is it The Carrie Diaries?” You smile a little and he doesn’t seem to mind the banter, so. “You just want a trim?”

“Please, just kinda get it under control—tame it somehow.”

A laugh leaves your lips before you nod; should be simple enough. Some of it has just gotten a little long and it’s giving the waves a bit of an unruly vibe but…still attractive. He could pull it off at least if he wanted to. When your hair needs something done it just looks unkempt. Letting out a soft sigh, you reach for the spray bottle and give it a few pulls into his hair and run your hand through it.

With the strands damp, you figure out what his kind of hair needs before pulling out your comb and scissors, getting to work. If only you could find someone to believe the fact that you’re almost at closing cutting Austin Butler’s hair—quite a bingo card square.

“How long have you worked here?”

Chewing on your lower lip in concentration, you glance at Austin in the mirror before snipping at a few strands, “Three years. I’m uh…trying to write a book,” And you have no idea why you’re telling this man this. You don’t even dive into it with your repeat customers but…there’s something about Austin’s eyes, a genuine air to the way he carries himself, kinda lulls you right into the words leaving your mouth.

“Like I…meet so many people here with such interesting stories, I’ve been compiling them with permission and,” You shrug, “Attempting to put something together.”

You turn the chair a little, using the comb to smooth some of his hair back before you start cutting again. Austin purses his lips, glancing up at you with soft amusement, “Is this gonna be a chapter?”

You pause, smiling a little as your stomach does this ridiculous flutter. How does anyone talk to him on a normal basis? “Guess that depends,” You turn the chair to the other side to even everything out, “Do I have your permission? Could be a real page turner.”

He laughs lightly before nodding, “Yeah sure, go head.”

Pleased, you make a mental checklist to go through after you’re done here—can at least type a few pages when you go home with tacos. Knowing he’s on a time crunch, you turn him in the chair to face the mirror and make sure it’s touched up enough for him and that he doesn’t want anything else.

“You can uh,” You motion to the small table near the mirror. “Grab some styling gel or whatever you want if you’re running late.” Usually you’d just do it yourself without a second thought but Austin, you’re sure, knows how to style his own hair. Besides, last thing you’d want is to put a curl out of place when he’s no doubt going to be having his picture taken a ton of times at whatever event he’s going to.

Once you take the black shawl off him, he moves to pick up one of the gel bottles, “I owe you one.”

A soft laugh leaves your lips because no, he really doesn’t. The story and getting paid is good enough for you. You undo the apron around your waist, setting it down on your chair as you wander towards the counter up front where you can input his haircut into the iPad.

“How bout an invite to whatever party you’re going to?” You tease, “Will Brad Pitt be there?”

Austin chuckles, pulling his card out to pay once he’s standing in front of you, “How bout coffee?” He offers and then leaves a substantial tip that is triple what the haircut is even worth. You shake your head but your cheeks feel warm—it’s generous, you know he thinks he was some sort of inconvenience when it wasn’t that big of a deal. It’s only ten minutes past closing.

He signs and you hand him the receipt with raised eyebrows. Coffee? You find yourself shrugging in agreement because you already know he’s just being nice; you’re never going to see him again and that’s fine. You understand how reality works.

“Have a nice night.”

Austin smiles, fingers brushing as he takes the slip of paper from you. “You too—thanks again.”

Nodding, you offer a small wave and follow him to the door to lock it. There are a few moments where you watch him walk away, almost having this sense of surrealness settle on your shoulders.

You suppose you should actually thank Carly for once for sneaking out early.

It’s another one of those days where the most interesting thing going on is the weather outside, the range of sunshine to a weird bout of rain changing hands every twenty minutes. For now the rain seems to have stopped, the sun bright against the pavement. There are hints of rainbows along the glass every so often.

Carly has been doing her usual bitchy goal in life to grab customers from the front and send the ‘leftovers’ down your way, so your current chair work has been two older men with the beginning of bald spots and a grandmother type who has a too-strong scent of gardenias. You’re about to take an early lunch when the door opens again, the soft bell sounding, and Carly’s eyes go wide as saucers as she fixes her eyes on—

Austin.

Well, well, color you surprised. You would have put all that tip money on the fact that you wouldn’t see him again, let alone have him step through the hair salon doors a second time. You can’t help but smile a little, leaning against the back of your chair, your eyes taking him in. Damn, he looks so good. Another pair of jeans, darker this time, paired with some boots and an open denim button down, white t-shirt underneath. Should probably be a crime to look that good with such a simple outfit on.

Carly quickly steps around her chair to approach him with a bright smile, “Hi, what can I help you with?”

“I’m uh—” Austin trails off, looking down the row of chairs. His eyes land on you with a light smile, “Actually I’m here to see Y/N.”

The look on Carly’s face when Austin walks past her has to be one of the best things you’ve ever seen. You can’t help but smile, turning your attention towards him as he comes to stand in front of you.

“You know, we’ve got to stop meeting like this,” You tease, “These emergency haircuts are getting out of control.”

Austin grins, running a hand through his perfectly coifed curls. “Actually, I was hopin’ you had time to grab that coffee? If you want.”

Oh, you definitely want. “I mean, it’s the least you can do.” You smirk. You undo your apron, setting it on your chair to take your lunch hour and follow him out of the salon.

Definitely not a daunting, boring or monotonous day.

Tadadada! Here's the epilogue to my 'Overanalyzing beach Maiko' series.

Firstly, let's list some main conclusion theses:

1) Mai became interested in Zuko's problems after he directly mentioned his scar and his relationship with Ozai for the first time, so her final change of attitude does make some sense.

2) The basis for Zuko's irrational jealousy was Mai's annoyed facial expression after he criticized Ruon-Jian.

3) The context of Zuko's jealousy rampage actually leaves a loophole for not-possessive interpretation (yay).

4) Despite how badly Zuko screwed up, Mai somehow managed to screw up even more (yep, still sounds contr-intuitive).

5) Mai actually expresses herself all the time and her "childhood trauma" is a big bullshit.

6) Apart from his inner crisis, Zuko has to fix many problematic attitudes and personality settings before he'll become a decent romantic partner for anyone.

7) So does Mai.

Something like this.

And now, a bit of old good boring and inaccurate psychology lecture mistake correction.

I think that I misinterpreted Zuko's side of "bring me food" scene, actually. You see, I saw it as conscious submission in order to avoid conflict with Mai, but...

It actually looks more like Zuko genuinely didn't realize that Mai's demand was not okay. He wasn't exactly eager to please her*, but he also didn't see her attitude towards him as problematic.

(*Not catching Mai's "I'm hungry" initial hint is kind of an indicator of Zuko's cool-off towards her. I mean, acts of service is his typical way of showing affection, which makes his sudden cluelesness pretty notable.)

Basically, Mai and Zuko in this scene demonstrate opposite facets of locus of control problem. Simply put, they both believe that Zuko is responsible for something he really isn't - in this case, satisfying Mai's hunger.

Later, though, it's Zuko who believes Mai owes him something - namely, to give him affection and meet his emotional needs. In his head, he gives responsibility for his emotional well-being to Mai and scolds her when she "ignores her duty" by not being "passionate" enough.

(But while Mai doesn't owe Zuko anything formally, she made a mistake of severely underestimating Zuko's contribution into relationship and his real value for her. This resulted in her coldness and lack of gratitude in response to his affection, which is quite a big relationship screw-up.)

Okaaay, and with that part out of the way, it's time for my final personal reflections.

In general, I have no doubts I made lots of other mistakes during my analysis. I tried my best, but to dissect relationship conflicts correctly, you need to have good feeling of personal boundaries and empathy of your own. And... Well. It's not exactly my forte.

I compensate for some things with theoretical knowledge, but my mind is a mess, so... Yep.

I feel like I have to go and read more psychological theory after this.

Also, I kinda tried to do an entertainment out of this, and roasting format doesn't exactly mix good with being objective. So, yep. It seems I got some kind of useless Frankenstein monster in the end, lol.

And finally... Perhaps I had to make it clear much earlier, but...

I have nothing against Maiko shippers or Mai fans. Ta-da!

I'm sure they have a lot against me now though, pffft.

I realize what I wasn't exactly restrained in my roasting, so it's natural for you to dislike me. But my goal wasn't to tell you what your preferences are inadequate or something. I mean, I myself ship much more toxic problematic shit (and have a weak spot for all sorts of flawed characters). It isn't supposed to be about being rational. You like it, I don't, it's ok.

Dunno, maybe someone needed to hear this.

That's all, I guess. If you were reading this series - thanks for your attention. Despite everything, it was a rather interesting experience for me, and I hope you found something useful for yourself too.

I wonder what I should analyse next >:D

this took so long to answer I'm sorryyyy :( I kinda forgot about it because of object impermanence and all that- but it's fine, I'm answering it now

so! your idea of Houston / Miami / New Orleans made me go a little insane, so that's who I'll talk about. (also, just to avoid confusion, when I say "Nora" I'm talking about New Orleans- that's the nickname I've been using, unless anyone else has any better ideas /gen)

first, gender / sexuality headcanons. ofc female Houston, lesbian imo; bi female Nora; and she/they pan Miami owns my entire heart

love languages! Houston's love language is probably quality time, she just loves when her gfs pay attention to her. Nora's is words- she showers the other two with compliments, day and night, and when one of them compliments her, she lights up like the sun istg. and Miami's is touch. they're very touchy (*cough cough*)

and here are my general ship headcanons, in list form for your convenience:

Miami and Nora got together first, in a sort of friends-to-best-friends-to-spending-their-lives-together way

they each flirted with Houston, first just for fun, but then both developed feelings and talked to each other like "haha but wait hang on hilarious idea what if it wasn't really a joke"

when they talked to Houston about it, she needed a day or two to get used to the idea (she was raised by TEXAS after all), but then she was like "wait I'm being asked out by two gorgeous people why would I pass up this opportunity"

Nora is very little spoon energy, I dunno why

Miami and Nora LOVE when Houston's Southern accent slips out

y'know Miami's iconic sunglasses? they were a gift from Nora to help with Miami's light sensitivity

Nora is the best cuddler (Miami LIVES for her cuddles)

Houston proposes~ (it's very fluffy and soft and Nora can't even contain her excitement and Miami is way too eager to leap into Houston's arms- or Nora's, depending on who's available)

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? oh man. uh. i guess, following my url's general meaning, i choose to write muses on here that have defied their fates/expectations in some shape or form. this is true for more of my older muses on here, as i've definitely added some recently where i have to kinda twist that a bit. aside from that, i really just write muses that i can connect with on some level. my apparent calling is sad men who are prone to violence and are also incredibly sad/lonely. the mains i have floating in my head are usually there because it's the current media i'm consuming (i.e. star wars: the old republic). i could write long metas on why i adore all of my muses though. c':

is there anything you don’t like to write? uhh, you know. i'm actually pretty open to most things. i need some sort of action going on, regardless of the type, to keep interested i suppose. like, if there's a lot of conversation, i tend to get stuck. that's just because i struggle with it and i don't want to bore my partner, though. aside from that, pretty much any genre you throw at me, i'll be interested in writing.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? I'm a sucker for redemption au's, even if it takes thirty threads to get there. i enjoy writing the aftermath of a character's worst arc, and all of the guilt, pain, and sorrow that comes with it. so do i want to write arcann's redemption? yes. do i want to write about nihilus somehow healing from being a literal wound in the force? yes. (or even, writing who he was before malachor.) ragnar going back to being a farmer? please. all of it, yes. aside from that, i really, really enjoy hurt/comfort, violent/gore threads, general sci-fi adventure, and general fantasy adventure (the campfires, the fights, the enemies in between destinations, etc.)

how do you come up with headcanons? it's kind of a mix between being inspired by outside sources, such as media, music, mututals, and things that pop into my head after hyperfixating about a muse for three straight hours or something. i do adopt headcanons/partial headcanons from other people, but like sparingly and if it's appropriate/i know them/have asked. most of the time i really just get hit in the face with them though.

do you write in silence or do you play music? i am someone that requires music to write. i need to drown out distractions however i can. i really struggle with being easily distracted (getting tested for adhd soon lol) because i can very easily lose a thought before i'm able to write it down. i find that with music i can focus better, and i have playlists that help with whatever mood i'm going for in the reply.

do you plan your replies or wing them? i usually just sort of write what comes to mind first and then, if i have questions about something, i'll either approach the other mun or write things in the tags. sort of referring to the previous question, i try to write my ideas down as soon as i see a reply, or i'll be prone to forgetting them.

do you enjoy shipping? yes, 1000% yes. i love all sorts of relationships, not only the romantic ones. i don't really get to write about platonic/friendships too often, but i really enjoy the times i can. that said, re: romantic ships, i'm usually on board if there's chemistry between muses. i also encourage other muns to approach me if they think they might want to ship because chances are, i'm already on board.
