I've been hit by a sudden stroke of inspiration, so here's some more Muslim dark academia aesthetics:
Drawing the curtains at dusk and lighting oud incense all over the house
Inhaling the scent of jasmine in a moonlit garden while waiting for the mehendi to dry
Discarding Camus for Fanon and debating fiercely about the Algerian independence movement
Reading up on the Jadidists
Dreaming up scenarios of leading new revolutions to unite the ummah
Letting the chilled droplets of Roohafza fall onto a fresh page of Arabic calligraphy
Sketching the courtyard design of the Alhambra and dreaming of birds singing under long-gone orange trees.
Reading up on Islamic influences in the works of Borges.

another lil foodie fact... something that he’ll make for himself on special occasions is nam manglak. it’s a thai drink with honey and basil seeds! :) basil seeds, honey, water, rose syrup. simple!! healthy, refreshing, feels like summer. a similar thing he likes to make on super special days is similar, but it’s indian—which, duh, the cultures intersect sometimes—called falooda. this one has a bit more stuff in it like vermicelli, jelly, some nuts, ice cream, etc. trust when vi breaks out the rooh afza, it’s on!!

Nidhi Jamwal*
