I remember one person pointed out that the speed and accuracy with which Danny sketched Dash getting strangled by a skeleton pointed to him being a pretty good illustrator, and it got me thinking. What if instead of a spirit’s Sanctuary being already there Encanto style, they make the place themselves?

Imagine Danny drawing up plans for his very own space station he can observe the heavens from, and then after Frostbite or Johnny or Sidney tells him about making a sanctuary, he does some practice with like. Molding clay and stuff for a good Earthly analogue.

And then he builds it! A space station of his very own that most ghosts have the manners not to go into! It grows and evolves with his thoughts, an extension of his mind the way a spider’s web is, but he built it first.

To the sleepiest of travellers I know

My piece for the Like Light Through The Prism zine anthology for Pride Month.

Explanation below because it’s a bit long

I themed it around one of my favourite spirits - the Off-Season/Home/Old/Daily/whatever-you-call-them Guide, AKA Sleepy Traveller (I like to think they’re the same person!) and their cousin, Sanctuary Guide (according to Ash, that is.) for the emotional ties I have to the former and the implications of them both being magic users. It fits perfectly with the turquoise stripe meaning magic on Gilbert Baker’s rainbow flag - the stripe meanings being the theme for the zine as a whole!

There are many forms of love aside from what’s societally pushed as ‘most important’, so I wanted to express the value of familial love through this (the text being inspired by my own feelings about Sleepy too, though in different ways) and the emotions felt around a long-overdue reunion, when those you value the most indefinitely separate from you and the aches for their return, especially when that happens often.

I’ve had to deal with a lot of loss of sorts over time, including losing contact with people that I know understand and accept me the most, especially as a queer person. This is to honour all those lost bonds, and ones that reform despite it all, and ones that never do.

That aside, I hope you enjoy this piece! My first big one on a drawing tablet too. Had a lot of fun figuring it out, and the payoff was very worth it.

Forgot just how upsetting gloomed korok forest is

#idk. just this one sanctuary that was different from the rest in that all of these spirits only link and a few others #can see are offering you help and safety. care uniquely for you. a bed for YOU. YOUR sword. kept safe for 100 years for YOU. #thrown together shops just for YOU because nobody else goes here or even knows it exists. #and then you return and the people who cared so much about you dont even speak to you anymore #they cant speak. they just stand there #idk korok forest made me feel the most like i fucked up somehow #rito village was bad but still livable. if things got any worse then they would have to abandon home until it settled #but no one was in immediate life threatening danger #gerudo was really REALLY bad and people were in danger. just all crammed inside a bunker. no going into town because your #home doesnt belong to you anymore #and then the zora were ... idk felt the least pressing even though it definitely should be bc like. they breathe water. #if the water is gross theyll die. but idk something about how it was executed felt less terrible #maybe they outwardly expressed more hope? idk. same with the gorons didnt feel like there was a pressing threat #but korok forest is fucking AWFUL. god #idk. nobody in hyrule talks about it because they dont know there are people there. nobody else can see them so nobody knows #somethings wrong. with no lead into it finding korok forest the way it is just feels soooo much worse. #idk. on my first playthru i kind thought i fucked up and shouldve gotten there sooner. #it just feels like no matter what youre too late and its your fault

Lithuania : Birute Hill near Palanga, Lithuania, was once home to paleo astronomical observatories. Restored in 1998, the Samogitian Sanctuary is a recreation of a Pagan observatory from the Middle Ages. This northern Lithuanian group of statues is based on artifacts found at the site of a prehistoric astronomical observatory and shrine that stood til the 16th century.

During the key calendar holidays, Lithuanian people would carve wooden poles that correlate to the Balts' gods and goddesses. These Gods and Goddesses are Perkūnas, Aušrinė, Žemyna, Austėja, Ondenis, Patrimpas, Patulas, Velnias, Leda, Saulė and Mėnulis.

Elizabeth Woodville and her daughters being harassed by “repeated intercessions and dire threats” to leave sanctuary and submit to Richard III should be talked about a lot more than it is, tbh.

#elizabeth woodville #like they were in sanctuary for almost a year so this would've happened for AT LEAST a few months during that time #the entire neighborhood being fortified and under armed guard to keep them from escaping should also be talked about a lot more than it is. #especially because there WAS a plot to spirit some of her daughters overseas but fortification prevented that possibility #the way armed soldiers were present during the time she was compelled to give up her 9-year old youngest son should also be talked about #Also her list of requirements to Richard before exiting sanctuary - that her daughters wouldn't be hurt/ravished and no one would #be imprisoned - such a damning indication of what she thought during that time #and the fact that the council was deeply unhappy by Richard's disregard and disrespect shown to Elizabeth's 'dignity and safety' #is also so striking - especially because this was BEFORE he crowned himself king. Can you imagine what they thought after? #idk I just feel like historians and people talk about their tenure in sanctuary so casually when it must have been terrible for them #especially because we know Elizabeth was literally penniless and dependent on sanctuary's charity #and the fact that her entire family (sans her sisters) was either murdered imprisoned or exiled #AND the fact that they had no foreign protection so it's not like they could depend on any powerful connections to help them #like the defeated Lancastrians were helped in the 1460s (obviously Louis XI's support was dependent on his own aims but that doesn't really #matter - at the end of the day they could set up a court in exile with a pension thanks to Margaret's father. Elizabeth and her children's #vulnerability and lack of options were startlingly acute in comparison.
