Glad Lucia!
Saint Lucia's Day, December 13th (the winter solstice in the Julian calendar) is a celebration of light in the Nordic countries, mostly in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
The tradition is named after the Italian Saint Lucia of Syracuse.

A merry Lucia Day from Scandinavia!
I felt like going a bit dramatic this year, illustrating one of my favourite holidays in Denmark
Merry Winter Solstice to one and all!
And do enjoy

*takes a deep breath of relief*
I MANAGED.
ALL THE CAFFEINE MY DEAR FRIENDS SENT ME MANAGED TO HELP ME FINISH THIS TONIGHT.
Dear gods, I still cannot believe I managed to finish this in *looks at the clock* 5 hours??
Honestly, I am just relieved I managed to finish this tonight, so that I can post it today.
Let me tell you why.
Today it's the 13th of December, and both in Italy AND Sweden, we celebrate Saint Lucy.
So this morning, while I was working at my desk, I was actually pondering how sad I was not to be able to celebrate it properly this year, and this led me to think that I have never truly portrayed Dorothea celebrating Saint Lucy properly, as they would in Sweden.
So, tonight, I just decided to do a sprint job and work on Dorothea as she would look on the night of Saint Lucy, bright as starlight, and just as the Saint herself, a beacon of light in the cold wintery night. I like to think that in this particular artwork, she spent her last winter in Sweden before returning to London and reuniting with her mother and father. I want to think that both Phillip and Charlie were visiting her, so that she would have at least her cousins with her for Christmas.
Alternatively, and considering the role that she covers in my own MonsterMash!AU, I like to think that this would be her as the Ghost of Christmas Past if she were in "A Christmas Carol".
Well, now that this is done, time for me to go and sleep (because technically I DO have to work tomorrow lol)
Hope you will like this! <3

my favourite thing about sweden is that we have a traditional and widely beloved and celebrated feast day dedicated to a saint that’s not even swedish

24 days of Christmas: Sankta Lucia
Tumblr media

Night reigned in the world.
The sky was painted a rich navy, so dark it was almost black. Stars were scattered over the dome, dust clouds and nebula shimmering in the spaces left between lightyears.
If Nami really tried, she could make out the shape of the Lady, already dipping below the horizon on her eternal journey. Her sash spread out behind her, a band of three stars marking the chinch at her waist. The four bright stars crowning her were strong at this time of year, their light mixing with the shimmering darkness of the gently rolling sea below.
Nami always took the guard during the solstice.
When the night was longest and the sun hid behind the horizon, she felt a familiar tug behind her spine. A need to stay awake and call back the light, to listen to the silent whispers of the long night’s dream as it rolled through the world. Sometimes she could swear she felt it pass across her, hair standing on end and a sudden tightness in her chest as something stole her breath away.
Sometimes, she felt the call and whispered a prayer, a wish, a spell, to stave of the malign parts of darkness while welcoming the kind and gentle parts; the rest and repose found in the night, the spells of intimate understanding and discovery. The truth offered in the safety of darkness and the beauty of the night.
The rest of the crew knew not to disturb her on this night, not when the Lady began her ascent in the darkening evening.
When the evening star emerged, the flickering flame of the Lady’s candle, Sanji left her a thermos with hot chocolate. Usopp draped a blanket over her and Luffy leaned his head on her shoulder for a heartbeat, lending her a bit of his strength where she sat on the railing, facing the sea. Zoro paused on his way behind her, his presence as soothing as Robin’s silent bloom squeezing her hand. Franky gave her a quick hug as he went to bed and Jinbe’s strong grasp on her shoulder grounded her for a passing moment.
Maybe Brook knew something. He always stayed behind, a shadowy presence in the dark night. Not to share or speak or ask for anything, but to exist together for a moment. To just be, as he tuned his violin and played the one song Nami had asked him about, eons ago.
As the first bars echoed across the water, Nami chocked back a sob.
The one and only song she had ever asked Brook if he knew. The song for the Lady of Light, the bringer of spring and life. The one tune Nami still remembered from her homeland, from the time before Nojiko and Belle-Mére. A tune that curled around her heart and held fast, burrowing deep.
She lost track of time as she tracked the star paths, their light flickering in and out of existence as the night slipped onwards. The crisp winter air pricked her cheeks and tickled her nose, brushing her hair with hoarfrost. Her fingers, wrapped around the mug of hot chocolate, tingled in the cold and she knew she’d be frozen through in the morning.
But it was worth it, this night.
When her soul trembled in time with the tune Brook was still teasing out, his violin uncaring about the cold. A true mystery; she could only suppose it had something to do with his soul powers.
A baritone humming behind her grew in strength, harmonising with the violin.
“Wings of the night taking you far away?”
Nami leaned back, trusting in unseen, secure in the knowledge that she wouldn’t fall.
“Dreaming of wonders beyond imagination,” she said as she felt a strong chest behind her, braking her idle fall.
“Of Luffy getting lost?” Law asked, wrapping his arms around her and leaning his chin on top of her head.
Nami huffed a laugh. There was no denying some truths.
A door closed somewhere in the distance and Nami realised they were alone, Brook giving them some space. A rarity indeed onboard the Sunny.
On this one night, she usually got all the space she needed. But his quiet tact was still appreciated.
For a moment, the only sound was the gentle clucking of waves lapping the hull.
“Are the stars leading you home tonight?” Law’s voice was low in her ear. Nami smiled, her surreptitious tries to swipe away the tears from her cheeks still hindered by strong arms.
“You know they are,” she answered, still gazing out over the calm sea. The stars were still shining bright, the Lady’s retinue disappearing behind her into the sea, beyond the horizon.
Sometimes she wondered if she would be able to find them there, to follow them over the edge of the world.
To find the place where the songs were the same as in her dreams and where a smiling lady of light lit her candles with the stars, the moon in her hands and the sea in her heart.
“But tonight, they keep me anchored where I want to be,” Nami said in a murmur, tilting her head up to look at Law. His hat shaded his eyes, as usual, but the gentle turn of his mouth as he followed her gaze towards where the last of the Lady’s maids winked out in the dawning winter sky made Nami’s heart stutter.
“May the Lady light your way,” she whispered, her own smile tinged with the calm of the season. Winter would soon be over.
“And the stars lead you home,” Law answered in kind, pressing a kiss to the top of her hair.
The solstice was Nami’s. It was her night, to spend as she wished.
Right now, she wanted nothing more than to spend the remaining hours with a pair of warm arms around her, a thermos of chocolate beside her, a lingering touch and look wrapped in her heart and a blanket keeping the cold at bay.
And above them, the stars continued their journey, reflected in the sea below.
