Devi Saraswati, the one who is dressed in a white attire, who is the epitome of knowledge and education, the one who governs learning in the Universe,
You hold the Veena and the book, you remove the darkness by illuminating our lives with the knowledge
You hold a garland of beads that sparkle and you are seated on a lotus that represents blossoming mindfulness.
I worship you, O mother Sharada, the Goddess of wisdom

on writing as an act of transcendence
the beautiful image is a painting of Sarasvatī that belongs to a set of sixty which chronologically depict a tale told in the Mahābhārata (as well as in the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa and in the Śrīmad Devībhāgavata), that of King Hariścandra. this painting is one of two beginning the set, and it depicts the invocation of Sarasvatī, the Goddess of knowledge, speech and poetry, who is invoked as the flow of (and to flow the) words and wisdom of the telling. Gaṇeśa is invoked, as well.
in a seminar i recently went to, we discussed sacred texts, and the invocation of Gods & Goddesses in their openings - the muse in the Illiad, the deities in the Sanskrit texts etc. it made me reflect on writing as an inherently transcendental act. as in, it is not you who writes (or creates etc). it is being written through you, and it is therefore futile to take ownership for it.
as a 'writer', i oftentimes read my work and feel as if it was written by someone else. of course, my biases seep in (in editing, especially), but if i fully connect, the experience is that of it being written through me, and not by me.
i understand the invocation of the muses and Goddesses to reflect, in part, this understanding: that the act of creation subsumes and transcends the self or ego, even if only momentarily. that in creating, we tap into and open pathways within that we usually do not access customarily, when we are so entrenched in our sense of self that the energy can only flow in one way (that of sustaining our identity and the patterns which construct it). in creating, the energy can be freed to flow in new or in more ways. this is how i understand the surrendering to the muse or to one's art that is so lauded by poets. 🦢

Idk if this is just something I feel or something for real, but here it is: Sometimes I feel like people forget that Goddess Laxmi is Narayani. I don’t like it when she is simply correlated to wealth and monetary when she is all the resources (including the earth), the senses, Prakriti herself and just as much as all divine as Narayan, hence the name Narayani. She’s everything there is, the part of Hari that incarnated with him, the all knowing, yet people never talk about it enough.
And honestly, I feel like I can say the same for Maa Bramhani, strictly coming to us when we accidentally touch a book by our feet and not as source of all knowledge and the power of creation, the true mother to us since it is her vastness that shapes our souls.
I feel so happy knowing that Maa Uma Bhavani is still so well loved with her true divinity more recognised, her form as Adi Shakti more known yet I feel like we should realise the other two aswell.

It's an affront to the Western Mind that something may represent what it is and what it is not, or that something may stand for something and at the same time stand for something else. In this corpuscle of understanding stands the awesome power of what is called Hinduism, in as much as it marks and unmarks in the same moment, opens and expands all at once, challenges and befuddles through the same medium. Is that not the essence of reality!
Consorts of Lord Vishnu according to Hinduism are said to be Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Parvati. These deities stand for Rajas, Sattva and Tamas respectively.

Had a funny thought.
The Big4, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Indra once decided to have a rIcH fAm vIbEs party with their wives. So 8 ppl in total. And then Parvati is late. So everyone questions Shiva why his wife is late and just then she barges into the room with.... Durga, Kali, Tara, Matangi, Chhinamasta, Bhairavi, Bagalamukhi, Katyayani, Kushmanda, Shailaputri and 60 other avatars of hers and is just like hi :) I brought the girlies along :)
