Please, I'm Australian, and learning that blue toungue lizards are skinks was such a revelation to me once. Like you don't call a frill necked lizard a frill necked dragon/agamid right? Right?

Northern Blue Tongued Skink (tiliqua scincoides intermedia)
taken at the Denver Zoo in Denver, Colorado
status: ???
The female of this species retains fertilized eggs inside her until they hatch in order to keep them safe from the extreme weather conditions in Australia as well as from predators.

Why the blue tongue? For this reptile, it’s a form of self defense! Meet the blue-tongued skink (Tiliqua scincoides). Found in Australia and New Guinea, this lizard can reach lengths of nearly 2 ft (61 cm). Its body is covered in overlapping scales, supported by bony plates called osteoderms, which protect it from predators. But when faced with persistent foes, the blue-tongued skink has another defense: It will open its mouth, hiss, and reveal a bold blue tongue—startling foes with a flash of vibrant color. Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
To many people, spiders are an unwelcome houseguest. However, some spiders have to deal with their own home invaders. In Australia, arachnids like wolf spiders and tarantulas are frequently forced out of their burrows by blue tongue skinks, which love burrows but rarely dig their own.

The Oleo Scincoides (or simply “Oil Skinks”) are commonly found wallowing in oil spills in abandoned pumpjacks in Nevada. They’re not reptiles really, so calling them skinks is a misnomer. No one actually knows where they came from. Aliens? Ancient creatures awakened from eons of slumber? But ever since they appeared coming out from an exploded pipeline, the local oil industry was destroyed. No one knew how to deal with them, as they seem indestructible with conventional weapons. Any attempt of killing one will only result in a suicidal blaze. Who knows? Maybe these oil skinks also live underneath other oil fields and it’s just a matter of time until they get awakened too. Nowadays I dream of a Northern blue tongue skink (Tiliqua scincoides intermedia). Unfortunately, there are no breeders in the country I live in, so I'd probably have to travel to Sweden or Denmark to get one. I hope I can get one in a year or two. When I get a blue tongue skink, I'll name them Petunia. If you people have any pictures of your blue tongues, you could reblog this with them - I'd love to see all of them!

Tiliqua scincoides
Hey hey! Our new post is here! 😄✨
This reptile above is a reptile that’s called “Tiliqua scincoides” it’s also has another name which is “Common blue-tongued skink”. So it’s part of skink family. It is native reptiles in Australia also in the Tanimbar and Babar Islands in the Maluku Province of Indonesia. The look of this reptiles somehow looking like lizard, the shape is making it looking a gecko and somehow the look of the skin…
