I think an underappreciated aspect of s1 of Elementary is Joan being like “ugh grisly murders? dangerous crimes? other bizarre problems and antics my client is getting up to? Can’t wait to be done with all this” and turning around and getting so invested in solving the case. Like no wonder Sherlock was offering her an apprenticeship by the end of the season, despite what she said Joan was not only highly skilled but also very interested in Sherlock’s work.

I still think Sanji is too charming/cool in the live action, but I definitely agree that cutting the over-the-top perverted simping and keeping him more of a romantic ladies' man was the right move. It's not funny in the anime, and it would've come off as insanely creepy and off-putting with a real actor.

Animation offers a degree of distance and tolerance for certain behaviors that live action with real humans doesn't. This is especially true since you couldn't do Sanji's simp body language (heart eyes, nosebleeds, noodle body) that makes the anime read as comedic and not threatening, like the commonly understood visual language of anime just isn't there with live action. For example, The Mask only worked because Jim Carrey had a ton of prosthetic makeup on and his whole body/face/behavior was consistently cartoonish, so people were willing to accept the weird sexual stuff (plus it was 1994). Sanji is just a regular looking human man and audiences would not root for him as a hero if they'd kept the really perverted stuff in.

You know what they should've kept, though? His damn curly eyebrows.
