do you have any thoughts on zelda not staying as a dragon? me personally I like it and am very cool with it mostly because I think zelda should get to be happy forever (and because I'm smart enough to know she changed back because of recall and not some ambiguous power of love lmao) but a lot of people seem to dislike that it made the draconification inconsequential?

i think there's like. some valid concerns surrounding inconsequentiality/"curing" the physical problems characters have as a way of giving them a "happy ending" but I think those concerns don't necessarily apply to totk in the way people seem to be applying them, especially irt zelda's draconification and link's arm.

most of the time when the criticism of this "magic cure" trope is applied to media, it's because the trope is used as a cure-all to erase a character's suffering or trauma and make them "normal" again, and often ignores the character development or themes of the story in favor of giving the character a happy ending. I don't think that applies to totk, though, because the "curing" link and zelda experience is both within the realm of possibility given the worldbuilding present in the game (recall could easily have done it, as you mentioned) AND thematically consistent with the rest of the game. One of if not the most important central themes of totk is the idea of failure and second chances. we see a hyrule that has been given a second chance after link's initial failure with the calamity brought it to the brink of destruction. we see characters who were deeply unhappy and entrenched in the shame of their precalamity mistakes like purah and zelda become active, beloved members of their communities. we see the people of lurelin village take back and rebuild their destroyed home. we watch this kingdom and its people make an unprecedented comeback after a century of struggle and ruin.

Similarly, totk's gameplay is LINK's second chance, his comeback from the initial mistake of losing zelda, of specifically being unable to reach her with his injured hand when they fell. The consequences of that--the master sword's corruption, the loss of his arm, and zelda's draconification, are all supposed to SEEM irreversible, because that's how LINK initially sees them. he believes that he doomed both himself and zelda all because of that SINGLE moment in which he wasn't enough, a viewpoint which is obviously left over from the pressure he experienced to perform to an impossible standard of perfection pre-calamity. The story of totk is about deconstructing that belief and proving it wrong. the mistake he made caused harm, but it's never too late to repair things. he can fix the regional phenomena ganondorf causes and rebuild those communities. he can revitalize the master sword. he can GET ZELDA BACK, with his own arm, uninjured and able to reach her this time. no matter how impossible those things may initially seem, no matter the perceived finality of his mistakes and their consequences, there is always hope. there is always a second chance. no one person's single mistake can doom an entire kingdom for eternity. the fate of hyrule was NEVER resting on link's shoulders alone. he was never their final hope. there was always going to be an after. the whole POINT of the draconification and the loss of link's arm is that they AREN'T final. they ARE inconsequential, because they were born of one mistake and ONE MISTAKE IS NOT THE END ALL.

#like. think about the message the game sends if zelda stays a dragon. we are saying that link CAN'T come back from this mistake. #that one single split-second moment in which he made the wrong move because he had no way of knowing what to do #means that the one person who understands and supports him above all else. the one person who shares his experience and his trauma #the woman he LOVES. is gone forever with no hope of return ever and it's 100% his fault. #that's not true to the themes of botw OR totk. these games are about growth and healing and second chances. #this game was link learning that he gets a second chance. that no move he makes is the final be-all-end-all fuckup. #it removes the pressure and that's the POINT. for a character like link whose life has been DEFINED by pressure #who was taught from a horrifically young age that any wrong move on his part would KILL EVERYONE HE KNEW AND LOVED #this is such an important lesson to learn. removing that pressure/showing him that it was never actually real in the first place #is a crucial step towards healing for him. #asks #zelda analysis #totk spoilers #like i like the idea of lasting consequences dont get me wrong. <draconic features zelda enjoyer #but like. making link keep the fucking rauru arm rubs me the wrong way. the whole point is that he caught her with his own hand in the end #ugh. anyway. you get the idea

golden hour - final chapter

There’s not really any other feeling that Ava can compare to lying next to Beatrice.

She wondered, when they took the first steps of their relationship, if sleeping next to someone would be hard.

Moving in bed was already a challenge for her and there are genuine fears of getting stuck - but mostly it hasn’t been an issue.

Not to mention that these moments, where they're lying together in the dark at the end of the day, Ava can't imagine not being here.

Beatrice has her hands in Ava’s hair, gently stroking through it as Ava moves her legs to make her hips more comfortable before settling into Bea’s shoulder. “I’m glad we got this all figured out before fall because it’s getting chilly and you’re so fucking warm.”

“Hmm, I may have to bring my comforter over, it’s heavier than yours - though a bit too big for the bed.”

Ava smiles. “My comforter has the Earth on it, Bea. You can't get heavier than that.” As soon as she says it, she remembers watching Gravity and frowns. “Or…are they? Things are weightless in space, right? That’s why they float and shit?”

“No, objects aren't weightless when in space. They are simply in a state of free-fall around the Earth. This freefall creates a microgravity environment where things float.”

She says it so simply, like she’s plucked it off a shelf of the big fucking library in her brain. “You’re too good for me, you know that right?”

“That’s absurd.” Beatrice sounds so offended, it’s sweet.

hello everyone! hope you all have been doing well since this past month! Like i said on my previous post i wasn't feeling too well at the time so i had to get out of tumblr to make my mental health better. Due time i felt better, the pressure, the messages i have been receiving of anons hating on my edits, the though of my edits not being enough and i had to do better, was lost... i felt more relieved. idk if i will return to do edits since i'm still recovering, last week i had another breakdown of my mental health to the point of crying all days, feeling fear and anxious... i had to return to my medical treatment i was taking before that my psychiatrist asked me to take and now i will be starting to go to there again. I just wanted to let you guys know about my disappearance. I have been a bit more active on twitter and on my genshin sideblog since i have been drawing a lot! It's been relaxing to me! I have been doing work slowly for my boss and when i have a bit more time i draw for myself and post on there, if you wanna check out feel free ^^ I'm quite enjoying them! golden hour - chapter four

Ranches fucking stink.

The number of mornings that Ava has woken up to the smell of cow shit is already up to four. While that’s not many, it’s four more than she had in the first twenty-four years of her life so she considers it pretty significant.

Not that she’d ever drop this complaint to anyone, because the only person around is Beatrice and Ava knows how hard Bea works to keep everything going around here.

She could maybe mention it to Supes or even talk about it with JC, but she just imagines it’s one of those things you get used to.

Still, she’s woken up this morning to the shine of the sun and the stink of shit.

Ava groans, rolling over onto her back and staring up at the ceiling.

She has a date tonight. Well, first she has brunch with Beatrice.

While she’s equally excited about both, only one of them is actually a date. Ava had kind of hoped Beatrice might make a move when she came over two nights ago - but she didn’t.

She’s probably not going to either and Ava can only assume it’s because Beatrice isn’t into her like that.

At first, Ava hoped maybe she was because she caught her staring more than a few times. Beatrice is sweet and kind, and she doesn't seem the type to ogle a person or make them uncomfortable. So to catch her staring at her tits twice made Ava think that there might be something there.

But the more time they spend together without Beatrice making a move, the less Ava thinks a move is actually going to be made.

While she could absolutely make one of her own, Ava doesn’t really have it in her to do that.

To be honest, she doesn’t want to make a move.

So much of Ava’s life up to this point has relied on her to make things happen. She was the one who had to decide that she wasn't going to be bedridden forever. She was the one who had to push for therapy, push for independence, push for the chance to get her life started.

Every single thing since the day she lost her ability to walk has been a fight and while she’s won most of them, she’s kind of tired of having to drive everything forward.

So yeah, Ava kind of wants someone to come after her. She wants someone to work a little for her - she thinks that she deserves it.

Which is what JC did. JC, who only saw her once across the way outside and then came all the way back just to talk to her.

Is he the most engaging person she’s ever met? No, not at all. He talked for almost an hour about his TikTok channel.

Still, he was nice (and hot, he’s very hot) and interested - he called her cute and asked her out, nobody had ever done that before.

Of course, it didn't help much when Beatrice called her beautiful a few hours later and made her heart leap in her throat, but the difference came after. JC called her cute and then did something about it.

Beatrice, for as wonderful as she is, didn’t. So Ava’s decided not to push, she’s going to have a friendly brunch with Bea and then go out with JC.
