dating seong gihun headcanons
Tumblr media
i'm gonna say you met while gambling. gihun suffers from a gambling addiction and he spends a lot of time indulging in it. you only went because your friend wanted to go, so you wandered around as they gambled a bit
gihun quite literally ran into you while running away from some people who he owes money to. he begged you to lie to them and tell him he went the other way, and you couldn't ignore the pleading look his eyes held as he stared at you
so you lied to them and as they went the other way, he came out from his hiding spot and thanked you over and over. you smiled but didn't want to ask any questions because you assumed it was personal as to why he was being chased
he ran into you again— not literally, this time— while gambling again. your friends went out together and some of them were getting really good at it so you agreed to come and that's when you ran into gihun
he was sitting by himself on a bench and you sat down next to him, and when he looked up at you he was a bit shocked to say the least
why would you even remember him? but here you were, smiling over at him. it'd been a few weeks since you first met but you began talking as if no time had passed
you realized he was almost ethereal as he ran into you the first time, and that was part of the reason as to why you lied. you plucked up the courage to give him your number and he called you that night, the two of you became fast friends and started doing a lot of things together
even as friends, gihun would worry about your safety. he was well known to have a large amount of debt to various dangerous people and he'd never want you to get involved in that. you'd begin lending him money to pay off bits and pieces of his debt to reduce the amount of times he'd show up at your door covered in blood and bruises
he was eternally grateful to you and it was then when he realized he was falling in love with you. he fell fast and fell hard after he realized his feelings for you
he was almost constantly around you from that point forward, his eyes always on you and a smile always on his face
he was the one who asked you out first, and you said yes. as soon as he did, you began to think about your true feelings for him. from the day you met you'd been protecting him, why would you be doing that if you didn't have any feelings for him at all?
as we all know, gihun doesn't have a lot of money. he'd take you out for food with what little he has and it would make you feel guilty (so after the date was over you'd force him to take some money from you)— and you'd probably just wander around the streets of ssangmun-dong with him
the two of you went on a few dates before you became official and he was the one who asked. he was a stuttering, nervous mess as he did so, but you said yes to him and he felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest as you held onto him for dear life
after you begin dating he spends even more time than before with you. he loves spending time with you and he loves even more when you pay attention to him instead of doing something for work (so you'd always give in because he would pout until you did)
he's actually a really big fan of pda. if you're alright with it, he would hug you all the time and even kiss you in public. he would always have an arm wrapped around your shoulders so you'd be pulled into his side because it makes him feel safe knowing you're pressed up against him like that
if you aren't a fan of pda, he would be okay with that. he would just ask to hold your hand and if you say yes to it, that's all it would take for him to have butterflies in his stomach
when he moves in with you, he will love doing anything domestic with you no matter how practical or boring it may be to you. he wants you to know he's in it for the long haul and he'll do those household chores for you
before you start dating, he'll tell you about his daughter, gayeong. she is his absolute pride and joy along with you, and because he can hardly afford to pay for anything for himself he can't look after her
as soon as he'd able to, he'd introduce you to her and she would love you. he would be ecstatic as the three of you sat in your apartment on the floor playing board games almost as if you were a true family
he'd love how you'd sit on the couch and she'd sit on the floor in front of you as you braided and brushed her hair for her. he'd love how you'd go outside and play games with her and he loved how you would treat her as if she were your own daughter
he hoped more than anything to settle down with you and possibly have children one day if it's something you wanted, and seeing you with gayeong just made him want it even more
after the two of you start sleeping in the same bed together expect him to want to cuddle. one of gihun's love languages is physical touch, so he would love to be all over you whenever you slept
it didn't matter what position, your upper bodies didn't even have to be touching for him to be happy. your legs could be the only body part he could feel and he would love it anyways. sometimes he'll wrap you up in his arms and lay you on his chest, tucking your head under his chin as he goes to sleep
he would love for you to meet his mom. his mom is one of the most important people in his life and he just knows she would love you
as soon as he mentions the idea to you, you're nervous. gihun will reassure you that she'd love you and treat you as a part of the family but it doesn't stop you from being anxious anyways
when you meet her she would immediately love you and make you promise to keep her son away from gambling. you insist that you will, and you have been, because even though it is what caused you to meet, you knew it wasn't healthy for him in any way
when it came time for him to meet your parents, expect him to go out and somehow buy a tux with the money he doesn't have
he's SO nervous to meet your family, one of his biggest fears is not being good enough for you and he worries that your parents wouldn't like you dating someone like him
as soon as you meet for dinner, your mom falls in love with him and his manners. he's always talking to her with a smile on his face and as she sees the way you look at him she knows he's the one for. your dad takes a little bit for him to warm up to him, but he eventually comes around and even enjoys his company
your mom brings up the idea of marriage at one point, insisting that she needs to be able to witness it happen someday. you flush and gihun immediately becomes even more embarrassed than he has been the entire time
as you're walking home, you do end up thinking about the possibility of marriage. you're serious about your relationship with him and would enjoy spending the rest of your life with him but you worry that it might not be something he wants
but it is. gihun loves the idea of being married to you and being able to call you his wife/husband/spouse. he would love going around and saying "my ___ mentioned this the other day" or something. he will bring you up in every single conversation
he's also serious about your relationship and will pop the question to you when he thinks is right, but this isn't marriage hcs this is dating hcs!! back to dating
he'll learn how to cook your favorite foods just to make you happy. if you're not korean, he'd ask you if you're willing to teach him how to make some of your cultural/ethnic foods and tell him about your culture or where you grew up. he's fascinated by it and will love hearing you talk about it whenever you want to
he hopes to one day participate in your culture, but his new found knowledge would definitely impress your parents and make them like him even more
if you aren't korean he'll still learn how to cook your favorite meals even if he isn't the greatest at it
he'd love to watch you cook and he'll have an arm wrapped around your waist as you do so, peppering kisses across your neck and cheek as a distraction. you'd probably end up burning yourself at one point (and he'd feel guilty about it until the day he died even though you'd insist you aren't mad or upset with him)
if you have pets just know that he'll treat them like his babies. he'll spoil them and cuddle up with them all the time. you definitely have an entire album in your phone of gihun falling asleep with your pets because it happens so frequently
he gives great hugs! he's so comforting and he always knows how to comfort someone if they need it. he'll hold onto you either super tight like you'll disappear or really gently so he can rock you back and forth as he hugs you
he's actually a really amazing boyfriend and he puts in so much effort to stop gambling and prove himself to you. he'll see gayeong and his mom more often since you made him come to his senses
he loves and cares for you so much and has plans to marry you and start a family of your own some day <3

squid game characters finding your asleep
a/n: got a blood test today and almost fainted but i’m good now
(not my gifs)
warnings: none(?)
Ali
Tumblr media
he would find you in the fortress you and the others had made with the beds
you had been nightwatch last night and hadn’t gotten much sleep
he would see you curled up without a blanket and would drape his jacket over you
would sit with you quietly humming and fumbling with his hands until you woke up
Sae-byeok
Tumblr media
my favourite lesbian
she would try and wake you up first
probably by gently kicking you
if that didn’t work, she would just mumble something under her breath before sitting down next to you
if anyone made a commotion or loud noise she would threaten them with her pocket knife
Sang-woo
Tumblr media
he probably wouldn’t pay much attention at first until he realized it was you
he wouldn’t want to wake you up so he’d grab an extra serving for you when dinner rolled around and just place next to you
obviously he’d make sure no one took it
when you woke up, he would go up to you and tell you not to fall asleep out in the open because it’s dangerous
Jun-ho
Tumblr media
you’d be working on a case late at night when he found you pasted out at your desk
definitely thinks it’s funny and will take a picture
eventually he’d wake you up though with two cups of coffee in his hands and he’ll sit with you
Ji-yeong
Tumblr media
second favourite lesbian
if anything, she’s usually the one to fall asleep and you have to wake her up
if available, she’d grab a marker and draw stuff on you
never fall asleep first whenever she’s around
she also likes to play with your hair and just kind of hang out until you wake up

Be Quiet For Me
Pairing: Seong Gi-Hun x Reader
Genre: Smut
Summary: In the games, you developed a huge interest on Gi-Hun. All you could think about was dominating him, so when you had the chance, you showed him who's in charge.
Word Count: 2,4 k
Warnings: lots of teasing, sassy reader, oral sex (male receiving), sub!Gin-Hun x Dom!Reader, public sex (almost getting caught), master/mistress kink, dirty talk
A/N: Heyyy @gi-huns-girl!! As promised, here's my first smut fic about Seong Gi-Hun, my lovely husband <333. I really hope you guys enjoy this fic I wrote for you, love y'all ^^
Tumblr media
You couldn't deny the attraction you felt for the older man the first time you noticed him. He was the first one to vote "No" when the men in red let you all decide if you wanted to stay and play those mortal games or leave for good and go back to your miserable lives: and by a simple choice, you could already tell that man prioritizes life over money. You were the second one to vote: the moment you pressed the red button, the man who was represented by number 456, looked at you with thankful eyes and a large smile on his face. He's so freaking cute... I wonder how he would behave under my control, you instinctively thought to yourself.
You knew this wasn't the right thing to think about in a situation like this... but your dirty mind was a shameless sinner. For others, it could be an insignificant act, but for you... you knew very well the fire you felt inside you the moment that handsome and lean, yet tall man stared at you with nothing but pride and innocence inside his big eyes... and you knew he felt something about you as well. You don't believe in love at first sight, but in a strong sexual tension by just a simple, yet intense glare? That's another story.
Most of the players voted no, which meant all of you would come back to your homes. A few days passed and things haven't changed: you still had a shitty life, with tones and tones of huge debts to dangerous people, so you decided it was better to just return to the place you promised you would never come back to. Yet here you are again.
Was it worth it? Of course it was: if you continued to live your normal life, you would get killed or even tortured anyway... at least in that mysterious and dangerous place, you would have a chance.
You woke up in the same bed as before: unlike how it was the first time, you weren't so confused or unprepared. You looked around, somehow hoping to see the tall man once again, even if that meant he would be in danger too. You felt extremely selfish, yet you couldn't deny your excitement to see the man who caught your eye a few days ago.
"There you are..." you thought aloud once you saw him looking around to see if he recognized who returned to the game and who didn't.
"Hey there! Looking for someone?" you said excitedly to the man who carried the number 456, making him jump at your sudden appearance.
"Oh, hey!" he greeted you once he recognized your face. You could tell he was a little nervous while he stared at you for a few long seconds.
"Uh... yes?" you quietly laughed by noticing the effect you had on him, his cheeks becoming redder by second.
"Oh, right!" he did his best to compose himself in front of you, before answering your question. "Yes, I was actually trying to recognize any of these faces around here..." he answered thoughtfully: it was unknown to you then that his childhood best friend was participating in the games as well, but he still didn't mention anything.
"Well, at least you recognized my face, right?" you winked at him and he gave you a big teeth smile.
"Of course I did! I wouldnt't have forgotten such a beautiful face." you were surprised by his spontaneous comment, yet you didn't mind it at all. You raised your left eyebrow at him in a flirty way, which made his smile drop into a terrifying expression, looking like he just saw a ghost in front of him. "No, no- that's not what I meant!!" he desesperately apologized to you, in hope you didn't find him a creep. What he didn't know, was that his comment had the exact opposite effect on you.
"It's fine, really." you laughed. "Don't worry about it, number 456. I actually find you absolutely handsome too. What can I say? Older men are fine like wine, and you, honey... I would drink you without wasting a single drop." you flirted with him shamelessly, before licking and biting your lips in an extremely provocative way while looking directly to his eyes.
"Anyway, I hope you find whoever you're looking for. And if you need me, please don't hesitate to call me anytime." you winked at him one last time, before leaving him alone: completely speechless and redder than a tomato in the middle of the huge white room full of people. If he wasn't standing there, you would swear that his heart stopped beating right there and then.
Some days had passed and you were still alive, yet you noticed something wrong with Gi-Hun that bothered you to no end: even tho you belonged to his team, you noticed that he acted really weirdly around you, like he was afraid to talk to you. At first, you found it interesting and funny, but with time you started to get impatient by his contempt towards you. Why was he ignoring you for so long?? Did you actually crossed the line with him? Maybe, but you were just playing with him, even tho what you were saying was the pure truth. You wouldn't dare to apologize to him, because you were too stubborn for that. But, you would definitely confront him about his childish attitude. After all, you can't be mad for so long with someone who's apart of your team in a survival game. And that's when you took the first chance you got.
"Excuse me, sir! I need to go to the bathroom." Gi-Hun, the name of the man who was messing with your mind, heart and core, asked to the triangle figured guard.
"I want to go to the bathroom too!" you immediately said right after him, only to receive a surprised glare from a pair of big and wide eyes in your direction. You noticed his uncomfortable stare towards you, but you didn't care about it. You were about to solve this misunderstanding right now.
You two entered the bright colored bathroom, and for a moment, you remembered your happy childhood: a time where no one judged you, where the word "danger" was unknown to you... But you instantly shook that memory of your mind, just before you heard his bathroom door close behind him. You just leaned against the wall looking at your nails, waiting for him to come outside. Did you look so desperate to talk to him? Yes you did, but you didn't care. Any moment could be your last, and the last thing you wanted was to die without solving that situation. He finally came out, before quickly looking at you and then onto the ground once again. But you decided to act differently: you stared at him with a serious glare without looking away from him, noticing his body tensing up even more by the second. He calmly washed his hands, avoiding your presence, when you decided that you had enough of it.
"Enough!" you hit the washbasin with such force, that the sound of it colliding with your hand ecooed through the whole bathroom. He looked scared at you, not knowing how to deal with your furious state. "Why the hell are you ignoring me?!" you finally asked him, your patience having vanished way too long ago.
"W-what are you talking about?? I'm not-"
"Liar!" he finally looked at you in the eyes for what seemed like an eternity, after you accused him between clenched teeth, since you couldn't be too loud or sound hysterical in front of the man who you developed a huge crush on, despites the immature attitude he was having towards you. "What was it?! It was the fact that I was flirting with you?? I was joking around, for fuck sake!" you opened your arms before slamming them loudly on your thighs, indicating that his attitude made you extremely upset and that it was nothing else but unnecessary.
"Oh..." he seemed disappointed, which made you even more confused. "So you were joking about that..." once again, he looked at the ground, too ashamed to look at you in the eyes.
"Really? Are you upset or it's just my mind messing with me?" he rolled his dark eyes at you. Finally, and for the first time since the first day you got there for a second time, your sassy attitude came back in its fullest: he didn't need to say anything for you to figure out that he was only avoiding you, because he didn't know how to act with such a beautiful woman/man in front of him. After realizing the truth, you slowly approached him while he analyzed every move and step you took, his lips now dry and his heart beating faster than a cheetah. He swallowed his own spit, yet it wasn't enough to wet his throat and trembling mouth.
"So you didn't know how to behave towards your mistress/master, huh?" you seductively whispered in his ear while you massaged his now hard cock through his green pants. You heard him moan loudly at the sudden, yet powerful amount of pleasure he was feeling.
"Shhh, my love. Now, you don't want us to be caught doing nasty things, do you?" you bit his earlobe while your hand was still working on his huge bulge inside his pants. You could already feel how hard he was just by a duzen spoken words and a single gesture from you, which made you smirk at him.
"Tsk Tsk, look at this... I've barely touched you and you're already this hard, almost cumming in your pants. What a shame..." he felt embarrassed by your dirty talk and the way he let you control him with such ease. "But you won't cum until I tell you so, isn't that right, sweetheart?" he was so lost in pure lust, that he couldn't concentrate in anything else, but your hand rubbing his solid member so delicately. Noticing this, you grabbed his clothed hard cock with even more firmness, making him gasp and moan at the sudden feeling of pain and pleasure at the same time.
"Y-yes!!" his tone was completely changed by the pleasure that consumed his body, which made you wetter/harder.
"Yes what?"
"Yes, Miss/Master!! Please, do something... I can't hold it anymore..." he looked at you with pleading and innocent eyes that made your heart and pussy/cock tighten/throb, yet you couldn't let him escape so easily from this. Not after what he did to you.
"Oh, is that so?" you looked deep into his dark eyes, completely consumed by lust. "And why would I touch you when all you did was ignoring my existence, huh? You think that's fair?"
"N-no, it isn't, and I'm so sorry!! I promise I won't do it again, just... please forgive me..." he started crying in front of you, absolutely desperate for your addictive touch: you felt bad by seeing him like this, like his life depended on your physical touch, so you decided to forgive him since he apologized to you.
"Then be quiet for me baby, ok?" your hands were now working on his green tracksuit pants and boxers, before you watched his cock leaking with precum: his penis was long and its veins were pretty visible, while its head was incredibly red, searching for some kind of relief. You stared at him with surprised eyes, and without verbalizing it, he could tell you really liked what you saw.
While you were masturbating him at a fast pace, you kissed him hungrily and passionately, both of you looking like you needed to kiss each other in order to survive. His hands were all over you, but since you were so desperate just like him, you let him touch you like he dreamed since the first day he landed his eyes on you. He was a moaning mess, and you could just only imagine when was the last time that poor man was fucked by someone... but that didn't matter now. He was all yours, and you were his. You continued to kiss him to avoid you both getting caught, even though it was almost an impossible mission. If containing your own moans was one of the games you had to play, he would definitely be dead by now.
"Baby, you have to be extremely quiet right now, ok? If we weren't in this situation, it would be completely different, but let's save that for later, shall we?" when you got to your knees, you saw genuine fear in his eyes.
"Please Miss/Master, I-I can't do this..." he cried once more, not believing he could hold his pleasurable groans while you sucked his life out of him.
"Yes you can baby, please be a good boy for me, will ya?" you silently pleaded him since you wanted this as bad as him, and when he hesitantly nodded with sweat falling from his forehead, you smirked at him before putting your warm, wet lips and tongue around his large shaft.
"Oh, God!!" he almost screamed before tapping his mouth with his own hand, almost choking himself to death since he couldn't breath properly without making sexual noises. You continued your assault on his tasty cock without mercy, while massaging his balls, swirling your tongue around its tip and deepthroating him until you almost felt yourself pass out from lack of oxygen in your brain... and since you had to be quick and because he hadn't have sex in a long time, he quickly finished inside your mouth, only for you to look right into his eyes and show him how you swallowed everything he gave you. You licked your lips and closed your eyes for a second, tasting his salty cum on your tongue, and if it was possible, he would cum for a second time because of the extremely sexy sight.
You finally stood up and heard the door being harshly punched, before hearing a deep voice coming out from the other side:
"You two, come out of there before I come in and shoot you both!" at this, you laughed quietly before whispering at Gi-Hun's ear.
"Make sure you win this with me, because I really want to take my time with you." and with that, you left him half naked and breathless, while he dressed himself as fast as possible before you opened the door.

The Character And Your First Kiss
a/n: okay i kinda liked some of these and idk if i should continue them… lmk if you'd like to see part two !!
Tw: sad
gender neutral reader :)
Seong Gi-hun
He would probably be super hesitant and if he kissed you it would be spontaneous. It could be after the glass game when it’s just the four of you left. After the whole glass floor explodes and Gi-hun hugs you to protect you, he gives you one last look before crashing his lips against you. It catches you off guard at first but you're feeling so many emotions you can’t help but kiss back.
Cho Sang-woo
Sangwoo wasn’t thinking anymore. All he knew was that he loved you and that’s why he chose to kiss you right after the dinner. Gi-Hun and Sae-byeok were talking about something but while you and sangwoo talked he pulled you in and gave you a kiss, a kiss you had been waiting for. You wrapped your arms around him and you felt him slide his fingers up your back but just because Sangwoo loved you didn’t mean he didn’t think differently, that’s when you felt something being stabbed to your back, you tried to pull away but Sangwoo held you closer, you tried pushing him back but it was too late, you had already bleed out on him.
Kang Sae-byeok
She wasn’t acting like herself, she was more shaky and very distant, more than usual. After the dinner you went to her bed where you guys talked about everything which was weird in your opinion, she was being very open and you decided to open up. You guys were together on the bed, lips inches away until she connected both your lips. You'd kissed people before and thought it was weird that her kiss was wet but you realized she was crying. you pulled back to see that your hand was covered in blood. You quickly ran to the guards begging for help but when you came back it was too late.
Hwang Junho
¨I need to go y/n!” He cried, he had completely fallen in love with you. He wanted to make sure you made it out of the games alive and be able to find his brother,¨I promise I will come back and save you and all of this will be over”He mumbled taking both your shaky hands but something in your stomach told you this was a good bye. He noticed you couldn't look him in the eyes, that's when he slightly cupped your face and gave you a slow but passionate kiss. You both pulled away smiling a bit,¨I´ll come back for you¨He smiled. You finally nodded which made him more peaceful, he put on the mask again and walked you to the main room.
Abdul Alis
¨Look you can pair up with someone else and we will meet again, Sir Sangwoo and I will even try to help you both!¨ Ali tried to convince you but something felt off,¨I promise!¨ He smiled, his voice cracking a bit. You have him a strong hug but that wasn't enough for him, when you went to leave and find a partner he grabbed your hand and pulled you towards him, that caught you off guard but his smile eased every worry away, he slowly leaned down and gave you a soft peck,¨We will meet again¨ He smiled, you nodded hugging him. Once you both finished your goodbyes you went with your partner and walked into the small town thing,¨Huh...Marble Game?¨ You thought to yourself

we'll carry on [s. gi-hun]
Tumblr media
A/N: Welcome to my squid game rewrite :) This is going to part one of nine (unless I need to split up some episodes into two parts) but this first chapter is more of introducing new or already established relationships between the reader and other players so it might be a bit dry on the romance side for now- but I hope you enjoy <3
<edit: I meant to mention this before but the reader is going to be female! for bigger fics it's just easier for me to pick a gender and go for it>
wc: 3.6k
reblogs/likes/feedback are always appreciated ( if you notice any mistakes please let me know )
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
“Gi-hun?”
Your suspicions are correct when the guy in front of you turns at the call of his name. You hardly pay attention to the old man sitting on the bunk in front of him, too focused on the male before you. Gi-hun’s dark eyes study you for a moment, trying to figure out how you know him. You take that moment to regard him as well, he hasn’t changed much since you last saw him, hair a little longer and a few more lines around his eyes, but other than that he seems practically unscathed by time. He physically lights up when he recognizes you and immediately reaches out to clap you on the shoulder.
“Is that you Y/N? It’s been years!” You wince at how loud his voice is. Still as boisterous as when you were kids. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been fine.” In reality life has been anything but fine but you doubt he took your statement with a grain of salt. You wouldn’t be standing in the middle of this strange room if you hadn't drawn the short straw. “What about you? How’s your mothe-”
A sound rings out louder than the muttering of the people around you causing you both to snap your attention towards the ring of teal clad shoulders in the center of the room. A man yelling “You bitch!” is followed by another sound- someone's fist meeting flesh- and the thud of someone falling to the ground. After sharing a curious glance with Gi-hun you both make your way through the crowd. In the center of the circle are two people, a man with a snake tattoo wound around his neck, number 101, and a younger girl. His hand is wrapped in her dark hair and blood drips from her nose as he sneers into her face. He mentions something about her being a North Korean defector but your attention is pulled away when you feel Gi-hun shift next to you. He begins to take a step forward and your hand shoots out to stop him.
“What’re you doing?” You hiss, “Do you want to get yourself killed?” You might not know the man with the tattoo but he was obviously dangerous and you really didn’t want your friend to be dragged into what was clearly personal business.
“That pickpocket stole money from me.” He shakes his arm free from your grasp.
“So what’re you gonna do? It’s not like she has it with her.” Your- along with everyone else's- clothing had been swapped out for tracksuits upon arrival and the pockets were completely bare.
He ignores you. Rolling your eyes you watch as he pushes people out of the way and makes his way towards the pair. Typical. You hold your breath when you see him push the scary dude away and begin interrogating the girl. Despite the fact that he’s kneeling in front of her with his fists anchored in the lapels of her jacket, screaming into her face about the money she took, she seems unphased. The crowd around you gasps when Number 101 kicks Gi-hun away, sending him stumbling from his crouched position.
The man clearly intimidates your friend because he starts stuttering as he introduces himself. After a moment of them talking, Gi-huns voice begins to rise, a last ditch effort to seem threatening and it’s only then you begin to move. Wisps of memories from your childhood flit through your mind for a split second. You’d been in the situation often, seemingly always bailing Gi-hun out of situations he and his big mouth got himself into. You plant your feet between them and stare up at the gangster in front of you. He’s even more menacing up close but he doesn’t scare you. You’ve seen a lot of his type over the years, a coward hiding behind the guise of their tough guy act.
“Leave him be.” You deadpan.
His eyebrows shoot up- clearly not expecting that- and regards you for a second before he smirks. “What’s this?” he taunts. “A guard dog?”
“And what’re you?” You tilt your head mockly, lips pursed and eyebrows pulled together in question. “A pig?”
His face flushes with anger. “You little bitch!” You don’t have time to prepare yourself before his fist is swinging towards you but luckily Gi-hun’s hand wraps around your wrist and you’re pulled out of reach. Number 101 prepares to throw another punch but the sound of a buzzer catches him off guard. The heavy scraping of a door echoes throughout the quiet room, the mass of people gone eerily silent. You turn around and your mouth goes dry when you see the people walking through the open doorway.
A sentient sea of crimson, they all move in sync covered head to toe in red jumpsuits. Black masks obscure their faces and make it impossible to tell them apart. The only defining feature among them are the white shapes embossed on the front of their face coverings. All of them but one don circles. The one in the center, who steps forward, wears a square. He speaks before you have time to think about it.
“I would like to extend a heart-felt welcome to you all.” There must be a voice changer in his mask because his tone is deeper and more distorted than a regular man’s. Whether it’s anxiety or adrenaline you aren’t sure but an electrifying feeling flows through you and you feel your fingers begin to tremble. A sudden sense of foreboding practically suffocates you. “Everyone here will participate in six games over the next six days. The winners of all six games will be rewarded with a handsome cash prize.”
“Why?” It takes a moment for you to realize that it’s you who speaks and that all 456 players plus the guards have turned their attention toward you. You swallow nervously and continue, “I mean it’s strange that you knock us out with gas, take our belongings and hide us away in some random location that none of us know about. And you just expect us to go along with your games because you dangle a money prize in front of us? Do you really think we believe you?” More questions come to mind but you force yourself to stop, not wanting to prolong being the center of attention.
“We took precautions to ensure the confidentiality of our location. You will receive your personal possessions when you finish the games.” His response almost seems rehearsed, words flowing from his mouth without a second thought.
Another woman speaks after you and his answer feels the same. Stiff and practiced, like he’s reading from a script. A familiar voice talks next and you can’t help but perk up when you hear it. The people crowded around you make it impossible to see who’s speaking.
“I don’t trust a word you just said.” Every head turns toward him. “You lured, kidnapped, and locked us up. And you continue to make excuses to keep yourself hidden after committing all those illegal actions. Give us one good reason to trust you.”
A pause.
“Player 218. Cho Sangwoo.”
What? Why is Sangwoo here? This was the last place you’d expected to meet Sangwoo again. The last time you’d heard about him he was attending some prestigious college and was on his way to a fruitful life. Taking a peek up at Gi-hun you see him just as shocked as you. Maybe even more-so.
Square-face presses a button on the remote in his hand and the screen behind him lights up. A video begins to play and your stomach drops as you listen.
“Age 46. Former team leader of Team Two at Joy Investments. Siphoned money from clients, then investested in derivatives and future options with it and failed. Current debt, 650 million won.”
Another video of someone else begins to play but you tune it out, mind reeling at what you’d just heard. Were any of your other friends here? What was this place and how did they know so much? What did they know about you?
“I’ll give you one last chance to choose.” Your head snaps up at that, what did you miss? You must have been lost in thought for longer than you figured. “Will you go back to living your lousy life being chased by your creditors? Or will you grab the last opportunity we’re offering here?”
Despite your doubts, you had no other plans than to continue on with the games. Whatever they have planned for you all couldn’t be anything close to what you have to deal with everyday. The crowd begins to mutter in conversation.
“What games will we be playing?” A young man in the front speaks up.
“In order to keep it fair we will not be disclosing any information about the games beforehand.”
“Excuse me?” Next to you, Gi-hun raises his hand. “How much is the prize money?”
With another press of a button. a panel in the ceiling opens and a tinny arcade game song begins to play. A giant plastic, or maybe glass, pig is lowered into the room. Like a really strange chandelier. It’s hard to gauge the size from where you're standing but you can tell it's huge.
“The money you win will accumulate in the piggy bank after every game.” A piggy bank? Really? I haven’t used of those since primary school. “We will disclose the amount after the first game is finished. If you do not wish to participate, please let us know now.”
After a second of silence you and Gi-hun both turn to each other at the same time. You don’t need to speak to understand what the other is thinking. You weren’t leaving and neither was he.
About ten minutes later the guards set up podiums and have everyone get into lines. On the podiums they place piles of paper but it isn’t until you’re standing in front of one that you notice they’re player consent forms. The lack of terms and conditions is a little strange but you hurry to sign it, not wanting to hold up the queue.
A female voice instructs the players from a loud speaker when everyone is finished. “All players, please listen to the staff's instructions and proceed to the game hall.” After being led through a maze of brightly colored rooms filled with staircases and empty window sills you step into an area split in half by stalls. Side by side columns in the middle of the floor break up the room into sections and a screen lays on the inner part of each wall.
A camera above the screen takes your picture and as you’re ushered away you can only hope you didn’t blink.
Your head starts to pound as you are guided through even more staircases painted the most eye-straining colors imaginable and you try your best not to look down. You’d lost Gi-hun in the crowd before you’d even left the room you’d woken in and you missed having someone familiar nearby. Hopefully you find him before the first game begins.
When you finally pass through green metal doors and into sunlight you can feel the anxiety melt away. That is until you notice that you’d been led to an empty lot, four walls painted to look like a meadow trapping you inside. The top of the enclosure was open, giving you a clear view of the real sky hanging above. You immediately search the crowd for Gi-hun, desperate for the comfort of a friend. Keeping an eye out for his long hair and tall stature, you begin to slip through the crowd. You barely make it a few steps before you ram into someone. An apology is already on your lips by the time you turn around but it dies there when you recognize who you bumped into. The girl that gangster was beating up stands confidently in front you. With everything that had happened before you hadn’t been able to get a good look at her face but now that you were staring directly into her eyes you couldn't help the rumbling intimidation brewing in your gut. She was pretty. Short hair framing her face, cheeks spotted with freckles, but despite her soft appearance her eyes were intense, a fire blazing behind her irises. She stares at you for a second while you stand there gawking like an idiot before she pivots on her heel and leaves.
You watch her until someone steps into your line of vision and you lose sight of her. For a moment you forget what you were doing before your little run in with Number 67 but then the loud voice of your friend meets your ears and you’re shaken from your daze.
By the time you find Gi-hun he seems to be in the middle of a conversation with someone but as you get closer and can make out the words he’s saying you realize it’s more of an interrogation. Sang-woo stands in front of him, looking extremely uncomfortable, and is trying his best to dodge the barrage of questions Gi-hun throws at him. Over his old friend's shoulder, Sangwoo meets your eyes and lets out a sigh of relief, no doubt seeing you as an escape.
“Ah! Y/N!” He interrupts Gi-hun in the middle of his question and calls you over.
You nudge Gi-hun’s shoulder as you go to stand next to him. He looks at you and frowns. “Leave Sang-woo alone will you. It isn’t the time for questions.” Sang-woo sends you a thankful glance and you smile at him.
“Welcome to the first game!” The voice of a woman sounds out over the talking crowd. “All players please wait a moment on the field.” Tension fills the air as everyone waits for instructions. People begin murmuring amongst themselves trying to guess what game you’d be playing,
Sang-woo had walked away the first chance he got so it was only you and Gi-hun standing together. You both eye the giant statue on the other side of the field. It’s of the front profile of a young girl but it’s collapsible joints suggest that it can move its arms around. “What’d you think we’re gonna play?” You ask.
Your friend shakes his head, “No clue.” He must hear your shaky exhale because he immediately turns to face you with a smile. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” He punctuates his sentence by patting the top of your head. It was a simple habit, one that had started merely because it annoyed you so much when you were young but as you both got older it became a routine practice. But just because you were used to it didn’t mean that you hated it any less. It made you feel like a kid. You smack his hand away and glare at him playfully, previous doubts being pushed to the back of your mind.
“The first game is Green Light, Red Light.” The statue at the front swivels around by an unseen platform to face the tree behind it. “You can only move when ‘it’ shouts out green light, red light.”
First the piggy bank now this? Who do the people in charge think we are? Primary school students?
The woman announces the rest of the rules and repeats them before the game actually begins. A five minute timer appears on the wall and just before it begins to count down you feel someone squeeze your shoulder. It’s Gi-hun. You exchange anxious smiles before preparing yourselves.
A girl's sing-song voice carries through the field, “Green light, Red light~.” Your attention is drawn by the figure of a man practically sprinting through the open space. His blond hair is the thing that caught your eye, a contrast to the blue backdrop. Just as the girl finishes her chant her head rotates a full one hundred and eighty degrees like an owl. The man wobbles on his feet before stabling himself. The girl's eyes zone in on him and the woman's voice is back.
“Player 324. Eliminated.”
There’s a pregnant pause before a sharp sound echoes around you. The man with blond hair collapses.
What?
“Green light, Red light~.”
The man who was behind him stops next to his friend's body, talking to him. From where you stand you can’t see what happens but you know it can’t be good because the man still standing wavers on his feet for a moment before turning around and bolting for the exit. He doesn’t make it far. Blood shoots from his chest and it splatters onto the woman in front of him. Just as the man collapses, the woman lets out a gut wrenching scream and mayhem ensues.
Your mind blanks and you freeze. Even as people begin to panic and shove their way through the still stationary players, you don’t budge. If you were eliminated you were killed? More shots ring out and more lifeless bodies hit the floor. Nausea swirls in your stomach and for a moment you think you might throw up. You didn’t want to die. At least not like this. Not in some unknown location surrounded by strangers. The sounds of the screaming begin to be drowned out by blood pounding in your ears and your racing thoughts. What are you going to do? You don’t know how long you stand still, if the timer is about to run out or if you’re seconds away from being shot. Out of the corner of your eye you see people hesitantly beginning to shuffle forward but you can’t make yourself follow them. You can’t even hear the chant. The world sounds muffled to you, like someone shoved cotton in your ears but one persistent sound finally snags your attention.
Over everything going on in your head the sound of your name drags you into reality. Suddenly everything comes into focus. The sound of crunching dirt as people move forward, the feeling of your heart being lodged in your throat and the palpable anxiety flowing through all the players.
“Y/N,” Sang-woo whispers from behind you. “Gi-hun.” Instinctively you start to turn your head to face him but he hisses a warning. “Don’t turn your head. Just listen. You’ll die if you stay like that. You need to hide behind somebody. The doll, it’s a motion sensor, it won’t be able to detect you if someone is in front of you.”
“Green light, Red light~.” The girl is singing quicker now.
A baby deer could walk better than you, your legs wobbly and unsure as you stagger forward but you manage to stay on your feet. You have a second to spare so you glance over your shoulder searching for Gi-hun. He’s stuck under a dead body, trembling like a leaf.
The girl begins to sing again and more confidently than before, you step forward and slide behind the man in front of you so he completely shields you from the eyes of the giant doll. Players continue to fall to the ground, dead, but you try your best to ignore it. You can worry about that when you’ve crossed the red line on the other side. Sparing another peek over your shoulder you see Gi-hun still hasn’t moved.
“Gi-hun.” You turn your head to face him since you’re safely hidden out of sight. “Get up.” His eyes dart over to meet yours, fear rolling off him in waves. “Please, you need to get up. There isn’t time.” You gesture to the timer on the wall. One minute and 53 seconds. “Think about your daughter.”
A switch must have flipped in his head because his face hardens and the next time the girl starts her chant he scrambles to his feet. Newfound determination staining his features.
Almost an entire nerve-racking minute passes before you cross the red line with a solid 14 seconds left on the clock. The minute your foot lands in the dirt on the other side a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders and you’re finally able to catch your breath, albeit shakily. Sangwoo is a few feet in front of you, matching your bent over position trying to fill his lungs with air. You make eye contact and you try to smile comfortingly but his eyes dart to something behind you. Curiously you turn to see what he’s looking at.
Gihun is suspended over the ground, the only thing keeping him from falling forward and getting shot is the man behind him. The man’s hand grips the back of Gi-huns jacket and for a moment all you can do is marvel at how strong he must be. But that thought vanishes the moment you realize just how close your friend was to getting killed and your heart skips a beat.
“Green light, red light~”
Both men push forward with all their might, the ticking clock counting down the final seconds of what could very well be their life. With one last leap of faith they both propel themselves forward into safety, crashing into the ground just as the timer goes off. With his chest heaving Gi-hun clambers to his feet and you instantly slam into him, hugging him tight. He returns your embrace just as hard, heaving a sigh of relief against your hair. Your whole body flinches as gunshots fire off behind you and Gi-hun rests his hand against the back of your head, holding you tighter.
A loud rumbling noise is what makes you pull away. The sound came from giant rolling panels that were slowly covering the top of the body ridden yard. Claustrophobia begins to trickle into your mind as the field is shrouded in darkness.
What the hell did you get yourself into?

Cho Sangwoo had a reputation as a poised, intelligent businessman. He had graduated top of his class from Seoul National University, every mother’s dream for their child. He worked as an investment banker, and although the pay was usually more than substantial, the company’s reputation had taken a major hit in recent times. An employee had been sued for lying and stealing money from his clients, so Sangwoo was currently seated in a meeting to discuss how to handle the matter. The once peaceful conference quickly broke into vicious uproar, with people arguing and yelling at each-other in disorganised chaos. Sangwoo fell silent. His mind distanced their words and his surroundings. Is this what I’ll be doing until I die? I worked my ass off to be successful in life yet I’m stuck in a room with these morons. He thought.
Without a word, Sangwoo rose out of his seat and exited the room. His coworkers either didn’t notice or had no care, for no one asked about him leaving. He entered the men’s room and stared at his reflection in the mirror. He saw a pathetic man. He was single, despite his dashing appearance. His looks attracted many women, but he never pursued them. The main reason being his interest in males. Even then, he wasn’t emotionally available for a relationship. He hardly anyone to call a friend either. The only person he truly had was his mother, yet he was too embarrassed to tell her the truth about the company’s downfall. The building’s depressing atmosphere felt suffocating. He didn’t want to look at himself anymore. With a huff, he walked out and made his way to the entrance, desperate for fresh air.
Sangwoo aimlessly roamed the streets of Seoul with a cigarette between his lips, not caring where his legs took him. He gradually felt more at ease. The white clouds overhead blocked the sunlight, giving the city a greyscale appearance. He came to a halt. His mind had cleared, and he took the chance to survey his surroundings. The train station. Sangwoo contemplated for a moment. He wasn’t religious, or a big believer in fate. But he figured this was a sign. A sign to escape his mundane, melancholy life. A getaway from these people and all of his problems lying in this city. He had no clue where this train was headed. He didn’t have any luggage on him. He hadn’t even bought a ticket. And he couldn’t bring himself to care. All he knew was that he’d rather be anywhere else. The train was about to leave anyways, people were hurrying to get on board at the last minute. Fuck it.
.
“Quick, quick, load this luggage!” Gihun ran beside the train, frantically passing his bags of belongings onto the moving vehicle.
“Sir, please get in!” The person loading his bags instructed. “Don’t worry about me!” Gihun yelled back. The young man passed two more bags and sped up despite the burn in legs. With the help of the luggage man, he got in safely.
Gihun hunched over with his hands on his knees and panted heavily, attempting to catch his breath. He looked up and noticed numerous eyes turned in his direction. “Phew, I thought wouldn’t make it! Got real lucky, huh?” He laughed, hand coming to scratch the back of his neck. As the luggage man began storing his belongings, Gihun travelled through the compartments to find his assigned seat. He had chosen the compartment that no one preferred, because he enjoyed travelling in seclusion. He kept his gaze low, reading the numbers on the seats. 20,21,22...23!
Gihun’s excitement fell just a bit as he looked up and saw a man occupying it. “Excuse me, sir?” No response. “Sir? I think this is my seat.” He tried again, a bit louder. The guy wasn’t even looking at him. “Hey!” Gihun waved a hand in front of his face, which seemed to snap him out of his daze. He looked up at Gihun with a questioning, slightly annoyed glance. “You’re in the wrong seat.” Gihun said. Without a word, the mysterious man moved to the opposite seat. It seemed like Gihun would be having some company during this travel. Not that he minded. He finally had the opportunity to converse with a handsome guy rather than the old people in the main compartments.
.
Sangwoo payed no attention to the person sitting across from him. As long as he didn’t try to start a conversation, he wasn’t bothered by his presence. “It’s funny seeing someone else in this compartment, no one really likes these seats. But I like being alone and looking out the window while being in my own world, you know?” Sangwoo mentally sighed. If I ignore him, he’ll shut up . He didn’t. This guy somehow took his silence as a queue to continue rambling. “I’ve been on many trains in my lifetime, it never gets old. I love travelling! But this trip is very special, you see. I’m heading to Busan to elope with the man of my dreams!” Sangwoo could care less about this stranger’s love-life, although hearing ‘man’ took him by surprise. He kept up his facade of indifference, trying to drown out the annoying man’s voice by focusing on the outside view.
The man carried on for fifteen minutes about his life and family background, undeterred by Sangwoo’s unresponsiveness. Sangwoo adjusted his glasses, fixing an irritated stare on the talkative stranger. Said stranger wasn’t even looking at him, his eyes darting all around the compartment. He wanted to tell him that he had no interest in chit-chat, but figured it was a waste of energy.
Sangwoo rose out of his seat, hearing the man’s voice falter in confusion. “Sir? Where are you going? Sir?” He ignored the voice behind him and went to the outer part of the train in pursuit of fresh air. The door to the outside was closed, but unlocked. Sangwoo took off his glasses and breathed a sigh of relief. The wind pulled at his skin and he observed the tracks moving rapidly beneath him. For a second, he considered jumping. Maybe he could stand there and wait for the next train to seal his fate. If not, he’ll just have to walk to the nearest civilisation. Sangwoo figured both options were better than travelling to an unknown location with that passenger who was talking his ear off.
Unfortunately, his freedom was short-lived. Unbeknownst to him, the guy had followed him, along with a train staff who urged him to come inside. Sangwoo reluctantly re-entered the compartment. “Can I see your ticket please?” The staff member asked as she closed the door and locked it. Sangwoo averted his gaze to the floor. The strange man was looking at him intently. “Ticket! She wants to see your ticket!” He whispered, motioning with his hands. He must’ve thought Sangwoo was deaf. “I don’t have a ticket.” He said, lifting his gaze to meet the stranger’s.
.
“This man is on a business trip, sir. But a terrible family issue came up today, his father suddenly fell very ill. He had to visit him in hospital due to his critical condition, but the train was about to leave by the time he arrived at the station! It was an honest mistake, I’m sure this a one-time occurrence. Imagine if that was the last time he saw his father? Would buying a ticket be the top priority in that situation?” Sangwoo had to admit, the stranger’s improvised story was impressive. He was still dressed in his business suit, which added to the story’s credibility. The ticket lady seemed convinced enough. She pulled out a flip-pad to give him a ticket. “Where are you going?” Sangwoo said nothing, not meeting her gaze. He couldn’t answer. He felt the other man’s eyes on him. “Suwon! Give him a ticket to Suwon!” He smiled and patted Sangwoo’s back. For the past hour Sangwoo had felt like killing this guy, now he felt like he owed him his life.
.
“I really saved your ass back there, huh?” Gihun giggled as they returned to their seats. “Thank you for that.” The other man said. Not even a smile. His tone was rather flat, but Gihun knew he was genuinely grateful. “No worries!” He waved a hand dismissively, “You’ve been putting up with my chatter since the start of the trip, it was the least I could do.” At that, the broody stranger’s lips curved up slightly. “I’m Gihun. Seong Gihun. Do I at least get the pleasure of knowing your name?” Gihun extended an arm to him. He paused for a moment, then brought his hand up to shake Gihun’s. “Cho Sangwoo.”
.
Gihun was disturbed from his slumber by a an unnerving feeling that there was something amiss. He peered down at the bunk under him, seeing it unoccupied. Odd. Sangwoo may have just gone to the bathroom, but it wouldn’t hurt to check. He realised that the train was at a stop, but would dispatch any minute. Which was why his first instinct was to be alarmed when he saw that Sangwoo had gotten off and was walking through the empty station. The place was practically deserted, there was no way this was his stop. “Sangwoo! Where are you going? The train is leaving!” Gihun called out. He didn’t even turn around. “Hey, Sangwoo! You need to come back!” When he realised the other man wasn’t turning around, he exited the train and ran after him.
Sangwoo was seated on a bench when Gihun tapped him on the shoulder, frantically informing him of the trains departure. He just gave him an agitated glare and went back to staring at his shoes. “Fine, whatever.” Gihun gave up, running back to the moving vehicle.
“Wait! Wait! Someone ring the bell!” He cried out, accelerating in speed. But it was too late. No one heard him. He wasn’t fast enough. The train entered a tunnel, out of his sight. Gihun felt like the world had collapsed on his shoulders. He gripped his hair in panic, his breathing heavy and laboured. Surely the universe had something against him for ruining his plans like this. There were foot steps behind him. Gihun snapped out of his reverie and turned to see Sangwoo standing there, shaking his head. His self-pity was replaced with anger. “What is wrong with you? Is some sick joke? I helped you out, and now I’ve missed the train because of you.”
.
Sangwoo scowled at the accusation. “Did I ask you to help me? I’ve barely spoken more than a sentence to you since we boarded and you’re acting like we’re best buddies! Great, you helped me with the ticket. Now you can help me again by leaving me alone.” Gihun leaned in until his face was mere centimetres away from Sangwoo’s. The two men could feel each other’s breath on their skin from the proximity. “Listen here mister, you got me into this situation, now you’re going to get me out. If you have to take me to Busan yourself, then so be it.” Sangwoo stared down at the fuming Gihun. His eyes zeroed in on his pretty lips. The other was waiting for a response. Sangwoo took the opportunity and bolted, leaving behind a stunned Gihun, before he quickly followed suit
.
“Sangwoo?” Gihun halted and looked for the other man. They had exited the train station onto the street. He saw Sangwoo standing next to a taxi. “Hurry up, get in!” Sangwoo yelled. Gihun rushed to the car as Sangwoo told him the location. “Please go quickly! It’s urgent!” Gihun ushered the driver once inside. The driver turned around and held a finger to his lips, before putting his hands together. “Oh father in heaven...” As the seconds ticked by, the two grew more impatient. Sangwoo’s eyes flicked back and forth between Gihun’s desperate face and the driver praying. “God can listen to your prayers later, we need to go now!” Sangwoo barked. The driver rolled his eyes and obliged. They expected him to accelerate, but he drove at an agonisingly slow speed. “We’re not getting to the next station in time.” Gihun murmured, slumping against his seat and accepting his horrendous luck. “Stop the car.” Sangwoo ordered. “What?”“Stop the car.” Sangwoo repeated more firmly. The driver looked perplexed, but complied with his customer’s wishes.
When Sangwoo stepped out of the taxi, Gihun thought he would leave and let him cleanup this mess by himself. Instead he walked to the driver’s side and opened the door. “Move aside.” Sangwoo didn’t give him time to protest, entering to take the driver’s seat and making the man shuffle to the passenger’s. “What’s happening? What are you doing?” The cabbie questioned. Sangwoo took a deep breath, hands tight on the steering wheel. “Hold on.
He floored the gas pedal, sending the car zooming down the road. This area was fairly rural, meaning traffic and speed cameras were not a concern. “Stop! You’re going to kill us, please slow down! The cabbie cried out protests, unaccustomed to such reckless driving. To Gihun, Sangwoo was full of surprises. But he smiled wide. At this rate there was a possibility of him making it to the next station! “Please, I sold my land to buy this car.” The old driver sobbed. “Don’t worry sir, if anything breaks, he’ll pay for it. Look at his style, he’s a rich man!” Gihun reassured. Sangwoo briefly side-eyed him.
.
Gihun and Sangwoo ran out of the car and into the station after they had parked, the cab driver’s demands for the fare falling upon deaf ears. The train had just arrived. The two men looked at each other while trying to catch their breath. “Go, go board.” Sangwoo panted. Gihun nodded, letting out a ‘thank you’ in between huffs. The driver caught up to them, demanding payment. Seeing Sangwoo take out his wallet, Gihun made another request. “Can I borrow some money too! I need to buy some water.” Sangwoo passed him a note without a second thought. Gihun thanked him again and went to the nearest stall he could find.
“More than 2000 won? For one bottle?” Gihun’s eyes comically widened. “That’s ridiculous! Why such a high price on something that nature offers for free?”
“Sir, this is the set price.” The seller responded. “Oh really? Should I ask the consumer court? I have friends who work with the law, you know, they would agree you are robbing people!” The salesperson didn’t budge. He sighed, handing them the cash. He felt like he would collapsed at any second, what choice did he have? The first sip was so replenishing that the guilt of spending Sangwoo’s money almost left him. Gihun was too caught up in his relief that he was too late to pick up the sound of the train moving on the tracks.
The male turned in horror, heart dropping at the sight of the train departing again. No no no, not again! Gihun ran as fast as his body would let him, hoarsely crying out for someone to stop the vehicle and wait for him. Every muscle in his body burned. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful once again. A feeling of anguish tore through him as the train left his vision.
How do I get myself out of this one?

Chapter 1 is up! 💚
Summary:
Twenty seconds ago, Gi-hun had been his, for just a moment. What he’d wanted for years had been given to him and then ripped away within the same minute. But he was a fool if he ever thought he could keep him. A damn fool.

“When are you going to find him?” An old, yet eerily familiar old voice asked me. I remained quiet. After all, I already did the motion of calling the number. They knew I was listening on the end of the line. “He’s waiting.”

you hadn’t heard from gihun in almost a week.
it wasn’t like it was out of his character to disappear for a few days, but this felt different. he would always call and update you on how he was doing or if he were coming by to visit. he was your best friend, after all. after a few days with no response, you started to get worried, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. it was always possible that something had happened to his phone and he wasn’t able to get it charged, or maybe he’d ran out of money to pay for it.
but he should know better by now.
you knew full well that gihun was drowning in debt, and you did all you could to help him. you’d pay for his phone bill on the months where you could afford it. even though you worked minimum wage, you had enough money to rent an apartment and you were doing pretty well. but gihun’s situation was something entirely different.
you remembered him stopping by almost a week ago, looking into your eyes almost as if he thought it were the last time he’d see you. it was then that he told you his mother was suffering from a severe case of diabetes and that she wouldn’t be able to survive without some sort of surgery. he couldn’t afford the medical bill. you were just about to offer to help him pay until he kissed your forehead and walked out of the door with a “goodbye, be safe.”
you would be lying if your face didn’t flush at the kiss, but you pushed all of that away. gihun was always one to refuse any help at all, but he always came around eventually. you thought he’d show up in a day or two and then everything would be okay again. you’d offer him a place to stay for a while, and he’d be living with you until he was able to get on his feet.
gihun told you almost everything. he told you about the severe debt he’d gotten himself in, and he’d mentioned once or twice about how he’d be beaten by loan sharks in the street until they got their money back from him. that’s why he was almost always covered in blood and bruises whenever he showed up to your door.
you could only hope he wasn’t dead.
you sat in the silence of your living room, wearing a pair of sweatpants and a light grey sweatshirt. it wasn’t too hot outside, but it wasn’t cold either, so you thought what you were wearing would suit you well enough.
though, your choice of clothing was the least of your worries. the only thing plaguing your mind was gihun. hoping he was safe was the only thing you’d ever think about anymore, and it was beginning to take a toll on you mentally and physically. gihun was your best friend, and not hearing from him for so long brought so many emotions to you it was hard to deal with. you cared so much about him and you’d told him that more times than you could count, but he never seemed to fully understand it. he was always stubborn, refusing any help until he had no other options. you assumed this was one of those instances, but even when that happened, he’d send a message or two your way to keep your mind off of worry.
the television in your living room hadn’t been turned on in days, as you found no point to think about anything but where your best friend might’ve been. you’d been eating and drinking, but significantly less than you had been before. you knew gihun would scold you for that, but he wasn’t there to do it.
you sipped the hot coffee you clutched between your hands, the burning sensation following down your throat as you swallowed. you felt yourself cringe at the feeling of it, but you pushed it aside as you began getting lost in thought again.
you insulted gihun. he knew better than to keep you worrying, and you’d give him hell whenever he decided to show up at your door. for your sake, you hoped it’d be soon. you hated how you could only focus on his whereabouts, but you let yourself get too attached to him, knowing of the dangers he was in. it wouldn’t be a surprise to you if his name showed up on the news, saying that his body was found somewhere.
you bit the inside of your cheek, not wanting to think about it. gihun wouldn’t want you to think negatively. he always applauded you for your positivity, always encouraging him to get his life back on track and telling him you’d help him with each step of the way.
it was one of the reasons why he’d began to fall in love with you, and as soon as he woke up in the green tracksuit he wished he’d told you how he felt.
you heard a knock on your door but you didn’t think much of it, knowing it was probably one of those religious ads or something along those lines. it wasn’t until they knocked again, this time, more frantically, that you got up.
you dragged yourself to the door and didn’t bother looking through the peephole to see who it was. instead, you just opened the door and rubbed your eyes sleepily. “yes, hello-”
your words were cut off, and your eyes suddenly widened as this person pulled you into their arms. you heard them sniffle, and you turned to look at them the best you could. your arms were awkwardly laying at your sides as they held onto you like they were their lifeline. they didn’t say anything for a few moments, and you don’t know why you continued to let them hug you.
“y/n..”
your face dropped as you heard their voice. this is why you didn’t push them away. it was gihun. the person in your arms was the person you never stopped thinking about, and he dug his head into your neck as you finally gained your senses and wrapped your arms around him. after a few moments, you burst into tears as you held onto him.
you weren’t too sure as to why you were crying. anger? sadness? happiness? you didn’t care. all you cared about was that gihun was here in your arms again. you pulled him into your apartment and shut the door behind you, and he rocked back and forth as he hugged you. the hug lasted for what felt like hours, but you’d never complain about it. finally, he pulled away, and with tear-stained eyes, he stared at you.
you were still crying, but you were trying to wipe your tears away to see his face. you hadn’t completely seen it yet and it hadn’t yet sunk in that this was the person who’d been plaguing your thoughts recently.
“y/n..” he repeated wordlessly, one of his hands cupping your cheek as he wiped your tears away with his thumb. his hands were rough, but any touch of his felt soft to you. “you idiot,” you grumbled, “why didn’t you text me where you were? making me worry about you..” you felt him tense, but decided not to say anything about it. “i was.. paying off my debts.” you deadpanned up at him, but didn’t reply.
“i’m sorry i made you worry.” he said after a few moments of basking in your presence. after everything he’d been through, he was happy to see that at least one important person in his life was still alive. after everyone, ali, saebyeok, sangwoo.. and his mom. he didn’t think he’d be able to live with it anymore. “i’m so sorry.” he choked up, and you quickly brought him into another hug, any anger you felt towards him immediately being replaced with love.
“listen to me, y/n. i.. recently went through an experience that made me realize something.” gihun said, pulling away from the hug. he held onto your shoulders and looked deeply into your eyes. “i realized that i don’t know how much time i have left with anyone, and i don’t want to have any regrets.” he paused, taking in a deep, almost awkward breath. his eye contact didn’t waver, though, and he continued looking at you.
“i love you.”
you froze at his words.
he loved you?
“will you repeat that?”
you saw him smile, and your heart swelled. “i love you, y/n.”
it was true, after all. “i love you, gihun. so much, you idiot.” you muttered to him and wrapped your arms around his neck, bringing him into your arms.
he relaxed into your touch as the two of you laid back on the couch, his head on your chest and your legs tangled together.
at least he still had you, and that was enough.

being married to seong gihun headcanons
Tumblr media
he wouldn't want a big wedding. he just doesn't see the point in a bunch of distant relatives you don't even talk to being invited. of course, he'd invite sangwoo, his mom, his daughter and a few friends but he wouldn't really care about anyone else
he'll be preparing his vows for YEARS before he even proposed to you. he'd update them every now and then whenever he saw you do something kind or noticed something else he adored about you
even though you worry sometimes about marriage not being something he wants you still want to marry him. you would always hint at it and hope he would understand
he finally pops the question about two years after you began dating. he didn't want to take too long but he didn't want to scare you away by proposing so soon so he thought it was a safer option. a nice middle
of course you'd say yes and he'd pick you up by your waist and spin around, holding you up in the air as he laughs. you'd be so happy seeing a smile on his face that you wished you could rewind time to see it again
he would want to get married as fast as possible. he loves being your boyfriend but there's something about being your husband that makes his heart beat so quick he feels like it'll explode
gihun is a caring man. he'll make sure to let you pick the venue and design the invitations. if you wanted him to help you he would, but he doesn't know really anything about preparing for a wedding since he didn't do it for his last marriage
speaking of his last marriage, he isn't worried that his relationship with you will turn out the same way. he knows you love each other and if anything- he wants to marry you much more than he wanted to marry his ex-wife
your marriage would be scheduled quickly and he's never been more excited for anything in his life. he wants to be married to you so much that it physically hurts him
he still has his doubts sometimes that he won't be the best husband to you, but you notice and always tell him otherwise. even after the two of you are married he'll worry about not being good enough
you've already met his daughter prior to your marriage but now you're officially her stepparent. it warms his heart seeing her smile up at you the way she does. she's told him before that she's glad you came into his life because you helped him so much
without you, he knows that he would still be gambling and digging himself deeper into debt. but with you around, he's back on his feet and is working towards paying everything off one step at a time with your help
your wedding is small, not too extravagant but it's lovely for the two of you. the both of you love it and he's so happy you picked the venue you wanted because he knows you had the better taste for it
his vows are 10 miles long. he has so many things to say about you that he starts crying at the first word. you can hear the crowd laugh but your eyes are focused solely on him as he speaks
he tells you all the things he loves about you. how— because of you— he's recovering from his addiction, something he never thought he'd overcome. he tells you that every time he looks into your eyes he sees so much love and kindness that he feels like he doesn't deserve
he recounts the first time you met and how you looked at him. you didn't pity him but you still talked to him as if you were best friends. he talks about your first date and how much he made you laugh
his vows go on for a long time, but the smile never leaves your face as he looks at you. he's sobbing by the end of it and you can't help but pull him into a hug
when he finally collects himself you say your own vows. yours aren't as long as his is, but you still spoke for a decent amount of time about all of the things you love and adore about him
when it comes time to kiss you he dips you like something out of a movie. you'd wrap your arms around his neck and pull him so close to you that you feel like you're suffocating. you finally pull away and burst out into flustered laughter
the two of you take one of those wedding pictures where you're feeding each other cake. it's adorable and it hangs up on your wall in your home together
for your honeymoon you'd go wherever he wanted to go. it was an all expense paid trip as a gift from your parents so he wouldn't have to worry about more debt
he chooses a stereotypical romantic city like paris for your honeymoon because he thinks you'd like it. you would and it would be magical there
you'd stay for a week or so and head back home, cuddled as close as you could be on the plane. he'll kiss the top of your head if you fall asleep on his shoulder
as a married couple, it's practically the same as you were while you're dating. though he can't take his eyes off of the rings on your finger that shows to the world that you're married to him
he'll show you off to anyone. "this is my husband/wife/spouse!" oh, my husband/wife/spouse showed me that a few days ago-" he will always find an excuse to shove the fact that you're married into any conversation
he's an amazing husband just like he was as a boyfriend. he's still in shock that you wanted to marry him, but he will never complain about how you chose him to have for the rest of your lives <3

Gi-hun jealousy headcanons please¿? 🙏🏻
sorry this took me forever to get to i've been so busy LOL i hope you enjoy this though! i'm posting this in class btw 😭
jealous seong gihun headcanons
Tumblr media
gihun is a really jealous person. he'll get jealous whenever he sees someone flirting with you and it's really obvious
he trusts you. he knows you won't cheat or hurt him in any way so he doesn't get jealous whenever he sees you talking to another person unless they start touching you
it's always another person who makes him jealous. he's jealous partially because he's not the one touching you
if he gets super jealous he'll walk over to you with a smile and just look at the other person with a polite nod. he won't make them walk away, as long as they know you're taken he's okay with it
if they stop touching you or flirting with you he'll be fine for the rest of the night. he's happy they're respectful of your relationship with him and he'll leave you alone, knowing friendships are important too and perhaps you want to make friends
if they don't leave you alone he'll hold onto your hand and pull you away from them, not really saying too much. the look on his face gives away all of his feelings though as he's got a pout on his lips as he looks at you
he'll be super affectionate with you after his bouts of jealousy, hugging and cuddling you for hours on end until you have to pry him off of you
whenever he gets jealous it's serious. he loves you and wants you to be around him all the time whenever he's jealous
he worries that you'll leave him a lot. deep in the back of his head he thinks that you deserve better, someone who isn't drowning in debt and at constant risk of death from his debtors
he's worried for your safety because you're together but you reassure him that you won't leave him and instead want to help him through his debt and money problems
he's grateful to you and you've helped put his life back on track. he's spending more time with his daughter now since you knocked some sense into him
he does love you and whenever he's jealous it really shows through his physical affection. he worries that you'll leave him for the person flirting with you and that's mainly why he's jealous
he doesn't want you to leave him so please treat him with care and tell him you love him all the time. he needs that reassurance from you especially after he calms down from his jealousy
