Dirk is such a fascinating character in Symphonia because of how much he works in the background of it, and even though he's not a focus for long moments of time, he still remains important in the story until the very end. He finds a human child in the forest and then decides to change his life for him, even going so far as to build him a whole house so that the child can grow up in it. He imparts his own Dwarven knowledge and traditions to this child, even when it's stated that such traditions and carving techniques are a highly guarded secret. And even when Lloyd is on the journey, Dirk works in the background and helps out the past human prisoners of the human ranches that Lloyd and co. help free.

Dirk is a constant in Symphonia, and his home is a place the party can always go to if they want. In contrast, Iselia has been half-destroyed and continually keeps Lloyd out of it for much of the game. But Dirk's home is always available right from the beginning and I feel like that represents Dirk himself. Lloyd always has a place to return to.

And when the focus of the story does turn to him again near the end, it's to help Lloyd, such as making the Eternal Ring for him and for also making him the sword, Vorpal. I think it's particularly important that Dirk uses his skills in crafting - in creating and building something - to help Lloyd, not as a fighter himself, like Kratos. He uses creation, not destruction.

Another constant of him is the Dwarven Vows themselves, which Lloyd repeatedly goes back to throughout the game. It's woven into Symphonia's story so strongly, by someone who isn't a long-gone figure, but who Lloyd can go back to at any time. The idealism that Lloyd is known for definitely comes from these. Dirk is the one who shapes Lloyd for who he is.

While it's shown that Dirk and Lloyd may not always agree on everything, (where Lloyd tells him about the human ranch) Dirk never shuts him out or denies Lloyd what he wants to do in the end. He's incredibly supportive, and having him remain such an important parental figure in Symphonia until the very end of it. Lloyd never loses that support in the game, and is implied he continues to get it long after.

Anyway tldr; Dirk is a good dad.

gonna start off with something you may not like and that is an extremely poisonous jellyfish called the irukandji box jellyfish. its not only the smallest jellyfish in the world, but its extremely poisonous and can leave some pretty nasty scars. PLUS the venom can cause you to bleed from your brain AND feel a strong sense of doom. it really fucks with your head but uhh, it's around australia so really who is surprised?

i'll give you some nicer facts now <3 jellyfish can reproduce asexually!! they do this when they're in the polyp stage. the polyp "strobilates," which is basically the polyp dividing into different segments, aka different jellyfish. the baby jellies detach from the polyp one by one and boom they're off!!

there's a really big jellyfish called the lion's mane jellyfish that looks really pretty

jellyfish has nematocysts, which is the specialized cell in their stingers that contains the venom used to stung their prey. plus, it's not even just jellyfish that have these!! nematocysts can be found in pretty much even cnidaria!! C:

they're made up of a bunch of those polyps i mentioned before, but they have four types of specialized ones. the one of the very top (which is the part that sticks out of the water) allows it to drift on the water's surface very well. the tentacles do their tentacle things while being called "dactylozooids" for some reason (i literally couldnt remember that and i had to look it up HELP ME) they have digestive polyp that consume the organism the tentacles captured obviously and reproductive polyp that do reproductive things.

TECHNICALLY, it's a siphonophore (which is basically a whole of tiny animals working together.) WHICH IS AMAZING because usually i hear about siphonophores in the deep sea???
