In Our Favor
Part 169
McCoy
McCoy stretched as he stood. Their shuttle had just touched down and the prince was ready to be on solid ground again. He and Scotty had spent most of the flight working on their homework and catching up on their reading. All McCoy wanted was to stretch out in bed and go to sleep.
Campus was quiet but that was to be expected at the very late hour. Five pairs of footsteps crossed the grounds of Starfleet, heading towards the dorms. David had sent Andre and his ‘Team Alpha’ to bring them back to the academy. In another day or so the undercover team would be in place. McCoy didn’t want to think about that anymore than he had too.
McCoy pushed open their dorm door and held it for Scotty. Andre grabbed the door from him and held it for Anthony and Averie.
“You may wait here,” Andre said to the other two guards.
McCoy frowned. “Aren’t you going now?”
“The king wants you escorted to your room and the room checked,” Andre answered apologetically.
McCoy sighed. “Fine,” he muttered.
Andre followed McCoy and Scotty into the elevator.
“S’alright love,” Scotty said softly and squeezed McCoy’s hand. McCoy gave a tiny nod.
On their floor they got out and walked to their room. Scotty tapped in their code, then followed McCoy in as the door opened.
“There. Empty. Good?” McCoy turned back to look at Andre.
“Len…,” Scotty scolded gently.
“Yes sir,” Andre said after peeking into the bathroom. “I can report to the king with a clear conscience.”
“Andre— I’m- I’m sorry,” McCoy said. “It’s not you. It’s just—”
“I understand sir,” Andre said, lifting a hand to stop McCoy. “I can imagine it feels stifling to be under royal protection again. We’ll be as unobtrusive as we can. Good night sir. Mr. Scott-McCoy.”
“Good night,” Scotty called as Andre left. He moved and dropped his bag on his desk chair. Then he stepped over to McCoy and hugged him.
“I’m sorry,” McCoy said, dropping his face against Scotty’s neck. He knew he had been acting like an ass.
“It’s been a long day and yer always tense after a flight,” Scotty said.
“I shouldn’t take it out on others. It’s not Andre’s fault and he does his job well.”
“Aye love. Come on, let’s get to bed. Get some sleep at least before morning comes too soon.”
“Ok,” McCoy said, resting his forehead against Scotty’s for a moment, before letting go of the Scotsman.
He had already dropped his own bag by the desks and sat down on the bed to kick his shoes off. Quickly he undressed and got under the covers.
“Why does it have to be cold everywhere?” McCoy complained, pulling the covers up around himself.
Scotty laughed. “Maybe if ye wore some pajamas…”
McCoy made a face as Scotty climbed into the bed next to him. “Pajamas would just make more work.” He grinned and gave Scotty a knowing look.
“Well, not tonight,” Scotty chuckled. “We have to be up for class in a few hours.”
“Oh fine,” McCoy pretended to pout.
“Oh stop ye big baby,” Scotty’s voice was amused as he stretched across McCoy to turn out the light.
“That’s not fair,” McCoy grunted at Scotty’s weight on him.
Scotty stopped on his way back to his side of the bed to kiss McCoy.
“As if ye don’t get enough of me,” Scotty said. “I’ll make it up to ye on the weekend.”
“Good,” McCoy said. “I’ll hold you to it.”
“But I suppose for now, just hold ye?”
“Yes,” McCoy said, snuggling closer and getting his head down by Scotty’s chest.
“Can do mo ghràdh.”
Part 170
Scotty
When he woke up in the morning Scotty was confused for a moment, wondering where he was, but he quickly remembered that Leonard and him had returned to San Francisco the night before.
They had been accompanied by Andre and his team who would keep an eye on them until the undercover team was set up. Even though it felt weird to be under protection again, Scotty couldn't deny that it kinda eased his mind a bit. Knowing that Leonard was safe was very important to him and he trusted the royal security team a lot. Aye, they hadn't been able to protect Leah from the attack, but that was just because there had been so many rebels.
"Morning," a soft voice and the sound of the covers rustling next to him caught Scotty's attention and he rolled his head to the side to meet his husband's beautiful eyes. A smile formed on his lips as he thought about the first time they had been that close. The first time he had drowned in that gorgeous mixture of green and blue.
"Madainn mhath, mo ghràdh." Scotty moved closer to Leonard and allowed for their foreheads to touch. Gentle kisses quickly followed, but they both knew that they didn't have time for that. They needed to get up and dressed for classes.
"You know, we could just call in sick for today. That way no one can see Andre and the others around us," Leonard mused, sighing.
Scotty chuckled softly at that idea. He had expected something like that to come from his love.
"Oh? I didn't know that ye're feeling sick. I suppose it would be for the best if I stay far away from ye then, huh?" The Scotsman pulled his head backwards, acting like Leonard was somehow infectious and the prince groaned.
"I know. I know. We have to get back to classes. Can't miss too much stuff."
"Aye, that's right. And I'm pretty sure that our friends want to see us. Especially Chris."
Leonard sighed yet again before he finally rolled onto his back to stare at the ceiling.
"Alright. Fine." He looked back at Scotty. "But you owe me a lot this weekend."
The Scotsman only rolled his eyes. That was just the man he had married.
Andre hadn't lied when he had said that Team Alpha would try to be as unobtrusive as possible. They kept their distance, acting like they were just visitors at the academy for a day, but were never too far away from Leonard and Scotty.
When they entered the dining hall, Christine was already waving at the boys from afar. Keenser, Nyota and Cora were sitting with her and when Leonard and Scotty sat down, they were greeted cheerfully.
"It's so good to see the two of you. Did you have a good flight?" Uhura asked and Scotty nodded.
"Exhausting, but good. We managed to catch up with some homework."
From the corner of his eye Scotty noticed Cora leaning over to Leonard.
"How is your sister doing? Eugene and I heard about it too, of course," she quietly asked and the prince gave her a gentle smile.
"She's doing better, thanks." Leonard looked around. "Where is Eugene anyway?"
"Oh, he needs to finish a project last minute. But he told me that he's looking forward to seeing you in class." Cora was smiling, a soft blush on her cheeks as she talked about her boyfriend. Their love was still so fresh.
"I see."
Slowly more and more friends joined them, everyone asking about Leah and Robbie too.
Scotty was kinda surprised by the hard glare Jim gave them. He apparently couldn't believe that they hadn't called him, but the Scotsman was quite certain that he'd get over it quickly.
Aporal was the last to join them. He greeted them with a nod, but didn't say anything. It didn't matter. Scotty was just happy that he was sitting with them.

DAVID BOWIE: A MODERN LOVE David Bowie created many exotic characters and dressed in ways that back in the 1970s could get you arrested but as Andrew Vaughan explains he was always a Mod at heart. When we were thirteen our "Glam" hangouts were the front rooms of Orrell, near Wigan. For Studio 54 read 39, 42 or 44 Vicarage Road. If we fancied a game of snooker while we listened to music it was our house. If we fancied fooling about it was Geoff Bradshaw’s or Pey Halliwell’s across the road. By now our mums were out at work and you couldn’t swim in the rezzies or play cricket all of the summer holidays. Here, we’d phone girls up in the vain attempt at inviting them around, or phone for taxis for people we didn’t like down the bottom of the street. It was all typical teenage stuff but it was all played out to the soundtrack of David Bowie. It was the ‘Starman moment’ that made Boy George realise he was gay! Or so he’s recounted on numerous occasions. The moment David Bowie put his arm around the frankly very heterosexual-looking Mick Ronson on ‘Top of the Pops’ was the moment something twitched in George O’Dowd’s pants. Two-hundred miles north this teenage lad just thought: “This record’s brilliant!” Sure Bowie looked odd but it was his music that mattered. The fantastic haircut helped but basically it was just a great song.‘Top of the Pops’ mattered back then and what mattered to us working-class kids was that we had a new musical hero. It was a short sharp shock to the system but during the next few years Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane were played, played out and then we went back to Space Oddity and Man Who Sold the World and back to that hazy crazy sixties debut album entitled David Bowie via the reissued The World of David Bowie. Most of the songs on David Bowie came from when the man was simply known as Davy Jones. Davy Jones the Mod about town or sometimes Davie Jones the Mod about town. It's aways hard to keep up with the Joneses. He was with the the Konrads, the King Bees, the Manish Boys, the Riot Squad and Buzz. They played blues and soul, beat and pop. Looking for that hit, always moving on until Davy Jones eventually became David Bowie (to avoid confusion with The Monkees' lead singer Davy Jones); releasing his self-titled debut album in 1967. It's an album of its time and reflects plenty of the genres of music that were around at that time. Catchy baroque pop and novelty tunes along with more meatier efforts dealing with everyday issues such as peer pressure in Join The Gang and class issues in Maids of Bond Street . Then there are the out-and-out love songs such as Love You Till Tuesday and When I Dream My Dream all delivered in that Anthony Newley vocal style with touches of music hall and echoes of Kinks’ Englishness. While the album is often looked at as nothing more than a gateway to Bowie's later work - and there are lots of pointers in there as to what was to come - I like it. A lot. It stands up on its own merits and while it is never going to get you on the dancefloor there are some tunes in there while it will make you smile, and it will give you an idea where David Bowie's head and the nation's mindset was at in the summer of 1967. It is available in various formats and if you are not bothered about owning the original vinyl on Deram then there are - according to Discogs - 57 versions available. However, it might be worth picking up the 1995 album London Boy  released on Spectrum Music via Decca Records. This is basically the David Bowie album put the tracks The Laughing Gnome (we’ll quickly skip over this), the majestic Karma Man and the exquisite The London Boys. The London Boys is Bowie's first truly brilliant song. It appeared as the B-side to Rubber Band - from the David Bowie album - and slipped under the radar. It is a classic. It's Bowie's downer to David Bowie's uppers. It's a reflection on another side of the scene. The pills, the aspirations and depressions, the lack of money, the loneliness and the yearning for home. "A London boy, oh a London boyYour flashy clothes are your pride and joyA London boy, a London boyYou think you've had a lot of funBut you ain't got nothing, you're on the run" It is possibly the most depressing song you'll ever hear but its dark lyrics are quite, quite beautiful. It may have been seen as Bowie's goodbye to the sixties, maybe at the time it may have felt like his farewell to his career in music but Bowie was not for giving up. Like many he moved into hippy circles, produced the glorious folk rock of Space Oddity, went heavy metal with The Man Who Sold The World, returned to folk (albeit sprinkled with a little glitter) on Hunky Dory before he went Glamtastic and became the megastars that were Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane. Yet through all the craziness he remained a Mod at heart and when he was contractually obliged to produce an album in 1973 he returned to the sixties with an album of covers entitled Pinups. And what an album it is. It's basically Bowie and the boys doing the songs he loved back then. It's raw, it was recorded quickly and the energy bursts through the speakers. Dissed at the time by many Bowie purists the record has aged beautifully. With songs from “Syd's Pink Floyd”, The Who, Them and the Kinks to name a few it is a garage rock album to be played loud and often. Yet amidst Mick Ronson's guitar and Aynsley Dunbar's Moon-Like drums the band slip in a version of The McCoys Sorrow - a song so beautiful that it'll make you weep. It was in the charts for four months and was everybody's favourite song. It was a song for all the girls with their long blonde hair and their eyes of blue and a song for all the boys who wanted all the girls with their long blonde hair and their eyes of blue. It - like the whole album - is just WOW. And that's just the music. Add in the cover and the packaging and it is just so, so iconic. On the back cover there is Bowie photographed by Mick Rock in a Tommy Roberts’ box-jacketed, wide-trousered suit designed by Derek Morton, who later became Sir Paul Smith’s head of menswear. Then on the front it's the Thin White Duke and Twig the Wonderkid - this time photographed by Justin De Villeneure, Twiggy's then boyfriend. How we gazed at that photo. Seventies Twiggy all tanned and gorgeous and all of us down at Chris Ball's hairdressers armed with a copy of the album trying to get the crop. Happy days. The iconic photo was in fact originally intended for the cover of English Vogue magazine after De Villeneure was commissioned by Bea Miller, the London editor , to photograph a cover of Twiggy and David Bowie together. However, De Villeneure ended up giving the picture to Bowie to use on the PinUps cover instead, saying in 1999: "Twiggy and I were in Los Angeles when Aladdin Sane had just been released.  We heard Twiggy's name come over the radio in David's song Drive In Saturday.  I had just photographed a couple of Vogue covers and I thought it would be a good idea for David to be on a cover with Twiggy.  He would be the first man on a Vogue cover.  I called him in France.  He loved the idea and arranged a photo-session.  When he saw the finished picture he asked if he could use it for his album sleeve.  I said to him "I've just flown to Paris for Vogue especially to do their cover."  Then I asked David "How many albums do you sell?  He said "About a million, hopefully." Vogue would sell about 80,000 copies in the UK. I owned the picture, so I let him have it. I was a little arrogant then!  Vogue didn't talk with me for years after.  They were very angry.  I knew that I had made the right decision giving David the photograph when months later I was driving through Los Angeles and I saw a 60-foot billboard of the album cover on Sunset Boulevard." Of course, like all good modernists Bowie moved on. Through various incarnations, numerous new characters and many music styles but at the heart of it he was still Davy Jones from Brixton. He was always in and out of Soho, still referencing the sixties, still listening to the groups that played the Marquee and Eel Pie Island whilst always wearing sharp suits. A Mod 'til his final day doing - as The Who proclaimed and he interpreted on Pinups, "Anything for something new. Anyway, anyhow, anywhere" he chose. #BOWIEFOREVER   This article first appeared in the magazine Sharpen Up

@wordbound sent: fandom! Multimuses: send me the word “Fandom” and I’ll tell you which of your muses’ canons I’m familiar with.
Well, obviously I'm familiar with The Shadowhunter Chronicles fandom, as it's the focus of this blog as well! But beyond that, I actually know quite a few of the canon universes listed in your multimuse blog! Like.... a lot! So many so, that I am going to have to put this under a cut, good heavens. Let's see:
Good Omens - ohhhhhh my, how I love Neil Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett. I was a massive fan of this book for years, and when the show came out, I loved it too. I even wrote in this fandom, because how can you not?? Ugh, Michael Sheen and David Tennant were sublime, I adore them both. That show gave me LIFE.
Sherlock - I was a massive fan of the BBC Sherlock series up until series 3, and I do still think series 1 is a true masterpiece. I'm also a massive fan of Martin Freeman, and adored him as John Watson (so much, that I wrote Watson for a brief time in an RP group!)
RENT - I have loved/obsessed/cried over RENT since I was in highschool. I can literally sing the entire musical from memory, start to finish. I sob like a baby every time I see it live (and I have seen it live alot) and I will go to my grave loving the filmed version because at least it had most of the OBC. Also, one time Anthony Rapp responded to my tweet and it made my whole life valid.
Star Trek - ST is actually one of my original homebases for roleplay! One of the first blogs I ever created for RP on tumblr was a Leonard McCoy rp blog. Even before tumblr, I was obsessed with various Trek universes, from TOS to DS9 to Voyager. TOS is a big part of my childhood and my relationship with my mother, and NuTrek let me recapture that relationship in recent years, so I owe so much to Roddenberry, I can't even tell you.
Doctor Who - I am a Whovian, and my whole heart belongs to David Tennant (although, Vincent & the Doctor is still the best Dr Who eps I've ever seen)
Tolkien - I literally hollared when I saw you were writing Elladan! He and Elrohir are two of my favorite characters from Middle Earth and I will forever be big mad that they left them out of the Jackson films. (don't tell me that random cameo was sufficient, it was not). LOTR is another universe "homebase" for me, being one of the first fandoms I ever roleplayed in. Here's the fun bit.... figuring out which character I wrote! ;)
DnD - I'm an avid DnD player, and I cannot speak highly enough of the lore
Mythology - lol, fun fact, I used to write in a Mythology group RP. This was years ago now, long before the likes of Lore Olympus or Percy Jackson. I penned the sun god, Helios, and it was loads of fun. Because of this, I know a good amount about Greek and Roman Mythology!
Marvel/MCU - Another fandom I've RPed in! I've actually been a comic book reader since about the age of 7, so I've been obsessed with the storylines of the X-Men/Avengers/Luke Cage/Alpha Flight/Mrs Marvel for a loooong time. When the films started getting really high quality, I couldn't resist writing in the MCU. I still love the characters, but that RPC is a bit... rough... so now I just admire from afar!
Glee - Hoo boy. I was such a Gleek when this show originally aired. God I loved Lea Michele and Mark Salling.... at least back then. Suffice to say, that show did not age well, the later seasons were almost painful to watch. And with everything that happened with some of the actors working on it.... ah, well. I still appreciate the early seasons, and the impact that Glee itself had on shaping musical Television for future shows.
Repo - Is this Repo the film? Or Repo: The Genetic Rock Opera? Because I am a big fan of the Latter! I thought it was a stunning and peculiar musical!
Kingdom of Heaven - if you can believe it, I really loved this film when it came out. Largely because I had a massive thing for Orlando Bloom, but also because I thought the movie was aesthetically gorgeous. I haven't watched it in perhaps ten years now, but still consider it a film that deserved more love than it got.
Jurassic Park - I'm an 80s kid, so of course I loved the first Jurassic Park film. I'll even admit that I love a lot of the sequels (though, not all). I’ve never written in this fandom, but I enjoyed the book(s) tremendously when I was younger.
Buffy - I loooove Buffy, that show was my jam in high school. I haven't gone back to do a rewatch in ages, but suffice to say, I thought Angel was *chef's kiss*
And... wow. There you have it. Apparently we have a lot in common, at least in regards to our fantasy/sci-fi interests! I’m so glad I met you on here and that we are now friends on discord! Thank you for being such a great writing companion!

In Royal Blue Ch4 pt2
He sits on the couch, watching intently, his focus on the red and gold blur of Iron Man. Swooping in and out of the camera in an obvious attempt to draw the bots into Hawkeye’s line of fire. The arrows shutting them down with a shot to the head. Luca almost relaxes, and then a bot slams into the back of Iron Man, dragging him out of the sky. “Anthony!” He stands, frantically searching for the suit on the ground. The other Avengers are clearly trying to assist but are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of bots.
Luca comes to a quick decision, these people have taken him in, treated him as an equal, as a friend.
“Jarvis! Is there a way to the battle site?”
“A car is waiting down stairs, Sir.”
Bless Jarvis, and Mr. Hogan, who must be breaking several laws with the way he's driving. They fly through lights, around other cars, and skid to a stop just outside of the battle field.
Luca rushes out calling a “Thank you!” over his shoulder.
He reaches for his magic by instinct, it does not come, but his inborn Jotunn gift of ice answers in its place. He flings it at the nearest bot, which ices over and shatters when an arrow flies through it.
“Luca!” Captain America rushes to his side and takes up a guarding position. “What are you doing out here?!”
He flinches slightly, “Captain, I can help! Where is Iron Man? I saw him go down?”
Steve nods, and motions to the east, “Over there, he's still conscious but can't fly and we can't get through this hoard.”
Determined Luca takes his own stance, “Leave that to me Captain, tell the Hawk to be ready.” At Steve's nod he closes his eyes and focuses, reaching deep within he finds cold, ice, and furious winter swirling in the place once taken by his magic. When he opens his eyes he rushes forward graceful and fluid, fingers twisting in new instinctual patterns. Enemies freeze and shatter from Hawkeye’s arrows and the Captain's shield in his wake.
He doesn't stop, not until he finally catches sight of red and gold amongst the twisted black of the Doombots. He slides into a stop, and with a final flourish freezes the enemies surrounding Iron Man, leaving them to be taken out by repulser blasts.
Anthony spins around and stops, before bursting into laughter. “Damn Lulu! Trying to make Christmas come early?”
Finally looking behind him he sees pieces of Doombots and a line of solid ice marking his path. He cocks his head to the side and looks at his hands, then at Iron Man. Confusion written on his face, “I didn't know I could do that..”
This just makes Anthony laugh harder. “Guess Doom never solved the icing problem. Good job, Lulu!”
The sentiment is repeated by the Captain as he reaches them, “He's right, you did good. Thank you for helping us. But next time maybe don't rush out in sweatpants.”
Luca’s face turns deep blue, a blush. He hadn't even realized. “Um..of course Captain.”
Captain America calls for them to all head home, leaving clean up to shield.
They arrive home to pizza, “Thanks Jarvis!”, and one Nick Fury.
“Oh c'mon Nicki, can't debrief wait, we're beat!” Anthony whines.
“As much as I love ruining your day Stark I'm not here for you. Mr. McCoy, will you take a seat?” He gestures to the empty chair across from him.
Luca sits slowly, anxiety clawing at his chest and throat.
Fury clears his throat, “Mr. McCoy, I would like to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative.”
Behind him, Anthony laughs himself nearly sick.
Notes:
I admit I'm not the best at battle scenes. And that the end of the chapter makes me cackle.

In Our Favor
Part 9
McCoy
McCoy sensed Scotty tense next to him. A second later Scotty’s hand was on his, and McCoy had the feeling Scotty was trying to hold him back. Pavel and Jaylah were watching with wide eyes but Christine seemed to have a faint smirk on her face.
Behind them, McCoy heard Andre stepping forward.
“The prince isn’t—”
But before Andre could say more, McCoy put up a hand to stop him.
“Admiral Kinnear,” McCoy said politely.
“I tried my damndest to keep you out,” the admiral sneered. “After what you did. Starfleet doesn’t need the likes of you.”
“Sir!” “Hey!”
Lieutenant Commander Sullivan stepped up next to the admiral at the same time Andre moved in front of McCoy. Both were looking in surprise at the admiral.
“Perhaps sir, the academy no longer needs—” McCoy stopped himself at the hiss of breath he heard escaping Scotty. Right. He remembered what Pike had told him after his last encounter with Kinnear.
“Well, they’ve kept me, so they must expect good things from me,” McCoy said, gritting his teeth in an attempt to keep polite.
Kinnear’s mouth clamped tight and McCoy could see the tension in his jaw. Around them the air was tense.
“We’ve just been given our dorm assignment, so if you’ll excuse us. Sir.” McCoy smiled tightly, and went to move forward, around the admiral.
“I didn’t give you leave to go cadet,” Kinnear said scornfully. “That’s right,” he said with an eyebrow raised, “they let you be here, now you have to follow the rules.”
McCoy stopped moving and looked the admiral in the eye. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, putting his best fake smile in place.
“True sir,” he bit the words out. “May we have leave to go sir?”
Lt. Cmdr. Sullivan looked at McCoy, then looked at Kinnear. “Sir, you’ll be late for your meeting—”
“I’m on time,” Kinnear snapped at his aide.
“Yes sir.” Sullivan shrank back and gave McCoy an apologetic look.
“Go,” Kinnear said disdainfully. “Though I will be watching. One slip up and I’ll have you gone.”
Behind the admiral again, Sullivan looked at McCoy and gave his head the slightest shake. The prince wasn’t sure what to make of that.
“Thank you sir,” McCoy said. “So lovely to see you again sir.” Before anything else could be said, he bent to take his end of the trunk and looked at Scotty to get the other side. Once Scotty had it, McCoy set them off at a quick pace.
A glance over his shoulder showed Jaylah, Pavel and Christine following too and the security team forming protectively behind them. McCoy wasn’t sure where he was headed, he just knew he wanted to be out of sight of the admiral and anyone else who had seen what happened.
He turned next to a building and stopped a moment later. Scotty looked pale on the other end of the trunk.
“How far is it to our room?”
Scotty blinked then looked over at him. He looked around himself blankly before Anthony handed over the PADD he’d been holding for Scotty.
“That admiral is a bastard!” Christine said in a quiet voice.
“Yes!” Jaylah agreed, nodding vigorously.
“I think we’re going to go get settled,” McCoy said to the three friends. “Can we meet up in a bit? For dinner?”
“Da. Christine and I still need to finish at the main hall,” said Pavel.
McCoy looked at the younger boy in surprise. Why had they followed if they weren’t done? What good friends they were; McCoy could see the protective light in all their eyes as they looked at Scotty.
“I will find my room too,” Jaylah said.
“It’s not far,” Scotty finally said softly. He pointed back around the building they had taken refuge by. “Back that way and left.”
McCoy smiled again, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Right. We’ll see you guys soon.”
A short time later they stood in front of building D4.
“Sir?”
McCoy turned to look at Andre.
“Yes. I think we’ve got it from here Andre.”
“Best wishes to you then your highness. Mr. Scott-McCoy.”
“Thanks. Safe travels,” McCoy replied before he and Scotty shook hands with all three security members.
“Let’s find our room,” he said to Scotty. His husband looked more like himself, but McCoy could still see worry, maybe fear, in Scotty’s eyes. He wanted to reassure him, promise everything would be fine, make sure he knew Kinnear had no power to do anything to them.
“Ok,” Scotty agreed, and pushed open the door to the building.
Part 10
Scotty
Up in their room, Scotty let out a heavy sigh he didn’t know he had been holding. The scene with Admiral Kinnear - it had reminded him all too well of his time at the boarding school, back when Archer had still been an ass to scholarship students. However, this was different.
Admiral Kinnear had a lot more power than Archer had ever had on his students and Scotty knew that if one of them made a single mistake, that bastard would use it to his advantage. And that scared the hell out of him.
“Hey, leannan, it’s okay. Please stop frowning,” Leonard whispered to his ear, wrapping his arms around his husband from behind, and Scotty leaned back against him. He closed his eyes.
“Nothing’s okay, Len. It’s our first day and that man is already causing us trouble. Everyone can see that he just wants ye gone from this place.”
Leonard sighed and Scotty could feel him shrug his shoulders.
“Well, he won’t get rid of me that quickly. After all-“
Scotty didn’t even let him finish. He turned around in Leonard’s arms to face him.
“Aye, I know. Ye’re a prince.”
As soon as he saw the frown on his husband’s face, the Scotsman regretted his words. He knew that Leonard hated it when people gave preferential treatment to him just because of his status.
“I’m sorry, mo gràdh. I didn’t mean it like that,” he quickly apologized and Leonard’s facial features softened the slightest bit.
He nodded.
“I know. And I know that even though I don’t want it, people will treat me differently. I just… hope that my performance will be good enough for them too.”
Scotty gently placed his hand on Leonard’s cheek and stroked a thumb across it.
“It will. Ye will be the best medical student the fleet could ask for.”
His eyes saddened a bit.
“I’m just… worried. That’s all.”
A moment later, Leonard’s arms were around him again and he could breathe in the familiar scent.
“Don’t be. This is our dream. And we won’t let anyone destroy it. Not even that bastard of an Admiral. Let’s make the best out of everything, shall we?“
Scotty hesitated for a single second, but then he nodded. Aye, Leonard was right. No one should destroy their dream. Together they would get through everything.
When they eventually stepped into one of the big dining halls, they weren’t too surprised to find all of their friends. By now, everyone had arrived and they had all gathered around one table.
The boys waved their hands at them and then quickly made their way over to the table.
“Hey there,” Leonard greeted everyone and soon enough warm hugs followed, before they sat down.
Jim seemed to be quite happy that he could be with Spock again. He grinned from ear to ear.
“Is everything alright at the palace?” Leonard asked him, once everyone had started to chat with each other, and Jim gave him a nod.
“Sure. I took good care of everyone, after all.”
Scotty couldn’t help but chuckle as he rolled his eyes.
“Of course ye did.”
Jim, who was sensing the irony in these words, quickly grabbed a spoon and filled it with mashed potatoes.
“Oh you-“
A moment later the food hit Scotty straight in his face and he grinned, thinking back of all the times they had done that at school.
“Ye get that back!”
However, Scotty didn’t get that far. Soon enough a member of security was standing next to their table, clearing his throat.
Scotty and Jim grinned apologetically, though neither seemed to be sorry for real.
The man nodded at them, then left, and Scotty exhanged a glance with Jim.
Archers were everywhere.

Trump calls Fauci ‘a disaster’: US Election live news
President Donald Trump told campaign staff on Monday people are tired of hearing from infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci and ‘all these idiots’ about the coronavirus.
The Supreme Court has said it will hear an appeal from the Trump administration on a ruling that said the president did not have authority to divert military funds for US-Mexico wall.
Trump campaigns in Arizona on Monday, while Joe Biden has only an advertisement taping scheduled before Thursday’s debate.
Early voting begins on Monday in Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, and North Dakota.
The US Election Project shows that more than 28.7 million US voters have already cast ballots, with 15 days until the November 3 election.
Hello and welcome to Al Jazeera’s continuing coverage of the United States elections. This is Joseph Stepansky.
Monday, October 19:
17:00 ET – Biden slams Trump’s comments on Fauci
Biden, in a statement on Monday, slammed Trump’s earlier comments to campaign staffers in which he said Dr Anthony Fauci was ‘a disaster’ and people were tired of hearing from him and ‘all these idiots’ about the coronavirus.
“Waving a white flag and saying “it is what it is” is unacceptable when thousands of American lives are being taken each week, when businesses are closing and schools remain shuttered,” Biden said in a statement.
“Mr President, you’re right about one thing: the American people are tired. They’re tired of your lies about this virus,” he said. “They’re tired of watching more Americans die and more people lose their jobs because you refuse to take this pandemic seriously.”
16:45 ET – Trump, in calling for re-openings, cites Barron’s coronavirus infection
Trump, during a rally in Prescott, Arizona, referenced his son Barron’s coronavirus infection in calling for schools to re-open, portraying his son’s contraction of the disease as minor.
“They got to open up the states, and let the kids go back to school…Baron Trump had it. All these young guys. Barron Trump had it. He’s 14 and he’s very tall,” Trump said.
“The doctor said…Barron has tested positive. I said oh, how’s he going to do? ‘Very good sir’. Like 14 minutes later, how’s Barron? How’s he doing doc? How’s my boy doing? ‘Sir, he’s cured,'” he said. “It took about 12 seconds.”
Trump also continued his attacks on NBC News reporter Kristen Welker, calling her a “radical Democrat”.
16:15 ET – Trump calls Fauci a ‘nice guy’
Trump softened his attack on Dr Anthony Fauci after earlier in the day called the top infectious disease expert “a disaster”.
“No, I think really Dr Fauci is a very nice man. But we let him do what he wants to do. He gets a lot of television. He loves being on television. We let him do it,” Trump told reporters.
“Sometimes he says things are a little bit off and they get built up, unfortunately. But he’s a nice guy. I like him, but he’s called a lot of bad calls. He said, don’t wear a mask. And he said, don’t ban China. They were bad calls. He admits that. And I don’t hold that against him. If I did, I wouldn’t have him. No, I think he’s a nice guy,” Trump said.
16:00 ET – New poll shows Trump cutting into Biden’s lead
Trump appeared to cut into Democratic rival Joe Biden’s lead in Pennsylvania, one of the election’s most important battlegrounds, but Biden maintained a solid lead in Wisconsin, according to new Reuters/Ipsos opinion polls.
The poll showed 49 percent support for Biden in Pennsylvania and 45 percent support for Trump. That’s down from 51 percent support from Biden and 44 percent support for Trump in last week’s poll.
In Wisconsin, Biden had 51 percent support, compared to Trump’s 43 percent support.
15:30 ET – Trump says he will test for COVID-19 before next presidential debate
Trump said on Monday he would test for the coronavirus before the next presidential debate with Democratic candidate Joe Biden this week.
“Sure I would have no problem with that,” Trump told reporters when he was asked whether he would be tested before Thursday’s debate in Nashville.
Trump announced on October 2 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, and has declined to say when he last tested negative before the previous debate held on September 29.

15:00 ET – Trump says talking to the media is ‘debate prep’
Trump told reporters on Monday that talking to the media is “debate prep”.
“I’m doing this,” Trump said after arriving in Phoenix, Arizona, when asked how he was preparing for the upcoming debate on Thursday.
“I call this debate prep,” he added.
Thursday’s debate will take place in Nashville, Tennessee and will be moderated by NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker. The topics are Fighting COVID-19, American Families, Race in America, Climate Change, National Security and Leadership.
14:30 ET – Few issues initially reported in Florida early voting
Residents of Florida began early voting in much of the state Monday with no serious problems immediately reported.
The most populous counties reported wait times of 15 minutes or less at most of their early voting sites Monday afternoon, although a few sites reported waits of up to 90 minutes, according to the Associated Press.
However, one Palm Beach County site reported a three-hour wait.
With its 29 electoral votes, Florida is crucial to both candidates but especially so for Trump, who moved his official residence to his Palm Beach estate Mar-a-Lago from New York last year.

14:00 ET – American Voter: Sarita McCoy Gregory
Al Jazeera’s American Voter series asks the same key questions about the presidential election to voters across the United States.
“I’m a multi-issue voter. And the two issues that I’d like to highlight are reforming the justice system in this country, and also healthcare. So those are my two most important issues,” Virginia College professor Sarita McCoy Gregory, who has already voted for Biden, told Al Jazeera.

13:30 ET – Melania Trump set to make first public appearance since contracting coronavirus
Melania Trump plans to make her first public appearance since recovering from the coronavirus disease, joining Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on Tuesday
It was not immediately clear if the first lady also planned to address Trump supporters in Erie.
The event will be the first campaign trail appearance for Mrs. Trump since she spoke briefly at a June 2019 event in Orlando, Florida, where the president launched his reelection effort.
She addressed the Republican National Convention in August from the White House.
Mealania Trump recently announced that she has recovered from a bout with COVID-19 that included headaches, body aches and fatigue. She also revealed that the couple’s 14-year-old son, Barron, had contracted the virus, never had symptoms and has since tested negative.
13:00 ET – Biden has no scheduled public events before debate
Biden is taping a television interview on Monday, the only thing on his light, pre-debate public schedule this week.
The Democratic nominee’s motorcade rolled shortly after noon from his home in Wilmington, Delaware, to the Queen, a downtown theater where his campaign has built a makeshift studio and stage for its candidate to hold virtual events, as well as some speeches and press conferences in person.
Biden was taping an interview with “60 Minutes,” which was scheduled to air on CBS next weekend.
Biden has nothing else on his public schedule this week except Thursday night’s debate in Nashville, Tennessee. His campaign says he plans to use the bulk of the remaining time preparing for the second and final time he is scheduled to face off with President Donald Trump before Election Day on November 3.

12:30 ET – 28.7 million Americans have cast their ballots
With 15 days until election day. Over 28.7 million US voters have cast their ballot, according to the University of Florida;s US Elections Project.
The number equals 20.7 percent of all votes counted in the 2016 presidential contest.
As of Sunday, the tracker noted that about 5.9 million citizens had cast their ballots in 2016 at a comparable point in the race.
12:00 ET – Trump tells campaign staffers people are tired of hearing from Fauci, ‘and all these idiots’ about coronavirus
Trump has told his campaign staffers that people are tired of hearing from top infectious disease expert, and member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, Dr Anthony Fauci “and all these idiots” about the coronavirus, according to the Associated Press.
Speaking Monday during a phone call with campaign staffers, Trump also  called Fauci a “disaster” but said he’d create bigger issues for himself if he fired the doctor, the news agency reported.
In an interview that aired Sunday on the CBS 60 Minutes programme, Fauci said he was “absolutely not” surprised that Trump contracted the coronavirus, and called a White House Supreme Court nomination a “superspreader event”.
Fauci also noted that the administration has been limiting his media appearance.

11:30 ET – Biden again tests negative for coronavirus
Biden has again tested negative for coronavirus, according to his campaign. The former vice president has been regularly tested during the campaign.
Trump had tested positive for coronavirus on October 2, just days after the candidates faced on in a debate. His doctors have since said he is no longer contagious.
Last week, Biden’s campaign announced that a passenger who had flown with Biden on at least two occasions had tested positive for coronavirus.
That person had been at least 50 feet from Biden and the former vice president had worn a mask during the flight, according to the campaign, who said the candidate’s level exposure did not warrant quarantine.

11:00 ET – More US voters say election outcome matters than in 2016: Poll
A new Gallup poll has found that 77 percent of registered voters believe the November 3 election matters more than any other previous election, an increase of six percentage point.
That number is the highest since 1996, when Gallup began documenting the trend.
Meanwhile, 2 percent of voters say the election matters less than in the past and 21 percent think it matters about the same.
10:30 ET – Supreme Court to review legality of Trump’s ‘remain in Mexico’ asylum policy
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to decide the legality of one of Trump’s hardline immigration policies that has forced tens of thousands of migrants along the southern border to wait in Mexico, rather than entering the US, while their asylum claims are processed.
The justices will hear a Trump administration appeal of a 2019 lower court ruling that found that the policy likely violated federal immigration law. The “remain in Mexico” policy remains in effect because the Supreme Court in March put the lower court’s decision to block it on hold while the legal battle continues.
The Republican president has said the policy, which took effect in January 2019, has reduced the flow of migrants from Central America into the US. Restricting both illegal and legal immigration has been a central theme of Trump’s presidency. He has sought to reduce asylum claims through a series of policy and rule changes.
10:00 ET – Early voting begins in key swing state of Florida
Florida begins early in-person voting in much of the state on Monday as the Trump campaign tries to cut into an early advantage Democrats have posted in mail-in votes in the key swing state.
With its 29 electoral votes, Florida is crucial to both candidates but considered all-but essential to Trump, who moved his official residence to his Palm Beach estate, Mar-a-Lago, from New York last year. A Florida loss would make it nearly impossible for Trump to reach the 270 electoral votes needed to retain the White House over Biden.
About 2.5 million mail-in ballots have already been cast, with Democrats returning 1.2 million and Republicans about 755,000 as of Sunday, according to The Associated Press news agency. Non-affiliated voters and third-party members make up the rest. The number of mail-in votes is already approaching the 2.7 million cast in 2016. Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the state by about 113,000 votes.
09:30 ET – Supreme Court to hear Trump appeal of ruling against border wall funds
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal by the Trump administration of a previous ruling stating the president overstepped his constitutional powers by diverting military funds to pay for his promised wall along the US-Mexico border.
At issue is the legality of the president’s decision, after Congress refused to appropriate money he sought for the wall, to shift other funds already provided by legislators for other purposes.
Trump’s administration appealed a lower court’s June 26 decision that it lacked the authority to shift the military funds towards the border project because the so-called Appropriations Clause of the US Constitution exclusively grants the power of the purse to Congress.
09:00 ET – In campaign rally, Trump says Biden will ‘listen to scientists’
In a Sunday night campaign rally in Nevada, Trump told supporters Biden will “listen to scientists” if elected – a comment apparently meant to disparage the Democratic challenger.
Trump made the comments while warning of more future lockdowns if Biden is elected. Despite a recent spike in hospitalisations and cases in some states, in what public health experts have called a third wave of the virus, the president has continually emphasised the need to move faster with reopenings to support the economy.
In stark contrast, Biden has repeatedly prioritised public health and said he would support future lockdowns if health advisers said they were warranted.
“He’ll listen to the scientists,” Trump told supporters in a mocking tone. “If I listened totally to the scientists, we would right now have a country that would be in a massive depression instead – we’re like a rocket ship. Take a look at the numbers.”

In 1890 London, private detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. John Watson prevents the ritualistic murder of a woman by Lord Henry Blackwood, who has killed five other young women similarly. Inspector Lestrade and the police arrest Blackwood. Three months later, Watson is engaged to Mary Morstan and moving out of 221B Baker Street; while he enjoys their adventures together, Watson looks forward to not having to deal with Holmes’ eccentricities. Meanwhile, Blackwood has been sentenced to death and requests to see Holmes, whom he warns of three more unstoppable deaths that will cause great changes to the world.
