Thank you for the tag, @ryder616!

This tag game has unexpectedly led to an interesting discussion about what exactly an “Endgame Ship” means... which seems to be largely open to interpretation. I’m still not sure how I see that term, but for the purposes of this post, but to narrow it down and not mention way too many ships, I’ll take Endgame in two different meanings: for “Favorite Ship(s) That’s Endgame”, I’ll take it to mean pairings that were together and in a happy relationship at the end of the story. But for “Ship(s) You Wish Had Been Endgame”, I will take “Not Endgame” to mean that the ship was not treated as these characters’ main romance at the end of the show, or at least there was a lot of ambiguity and/or a rival ship for one or both characters was instead the current one at the end of the story. (A lot of my favorite ships have the tendency to end up unhappily in spite of being portrayed as the main romance of the story..)

Warning: this post contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Agents of SHIELD, The Hunger Games, The Leftovers, The Americans and The 100 (though if you’ve spent any time on my blog, you’ve certainly already been spoiled for the ending of The 100) and .

1. First Ship - When I was about 4 or 5, I was obsessed with Lady and the Tramp (I had a book version with a few pictures and it fell apart from how much I was reading it - it may have been my first book that wasn’t mostly a picture book), so I guess my first ship was two dogs (which is really appropriate, since I love dogs). If we’re talking TV, again going back to my childhood, before puberty and before I even knew what “shipping” was, I remember being pleasantly surprised when Raquel first appeared on Only Fools and Horses as a love interest for Del Boy - the show was an episodic comedy where the two brothers, in the early years, usually didn’t have a serious love interest. I thought “oh, he really is in love with her! And she feels the same, and they are so cute together.” I hoped she’d come back and wouldn’t just be a one episode character but a long-term LI. And then I was so happy when that very much did happen. I guess this can be considered the start of my TV shipping (and also an early sign of my love for contuinity and longer arcs on TV).

2. First OTP - Ignoring pre-puberty: at the age of 12, I was really obsessed with Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff and Cathy and read the book who knows how mny times. Regarding TV, I’ve shipped over the years, but I guess the first TV ship I would really call my OTP was in This Life, a 1990s UK drama about a bunch of 20-somethings in London, which I watched on TV in 2001. which now sadly seems almost forgotten. Anna and Miles had an on-off, love-hate relationship throughout - they were sexy, snarky, and it was painfully obvious that they were in love, but these idiots had trouble admitting it to themselves and even more to each other. If it had been a romcom, they would’ve been certain to end up together, but it was a realistic drama.

3. Current Favorite Ship - Bellarke - oh, what an OTP of all OTPs that was before it was stupidly destroyed out of spite. Over the last couple of years, Dark (season 3 mostly) made me really love Jonas and Martha (the first pairing I’ve made gifsets about), and most recently (last month!), I binged Halt and Catch Fire and fell in love with the show and with Joe and Cameron’s relationship (which, I just realized now, shows that my taste in OTPs hasn’t changed in 20 years).

If we’re talking current as in, in current shows rather than finished ones, then Kanej (Shadow and Bone), Harlivy (Harley Quinn), Gereon and Charlotte (Babylon Berlin) and Roy and Keeley (Ted Lasso).

4. Your ship since the first minute - I really rarely ship anything from the first minute (unless we’re talking Morticia and Gomez, who are of course already a perfect couple and nothing ever changes there). It usually takes time for me to fall for a ship. A rare exception is Roy and Keeley - their first one-on-one scene in S1 already had huge OTP vibes.

5. Ship(s) You Wish Had Been Endgame - Do I even have to say it? BELLARKE. A hundred times Bellarke, who were portrayed as endgame before the showrunner decided to retcon and ruin them together with the show overall.

Others: Jessica and Luke in Netfix Narvel shows, May and Andrew on AoS, Willow and Oz; or, depending on how you interpret Endgame, Willow/Tara (some argue that it is Endgame as Tara is definitely portrayed as the love of Willow’s life regardless of everything else). Spuffy (again, there are different opinions as to its status as both the show and the comics ended ambiguously and tried not to have a clear Endgame pairing for Buffy’s character), Xander/Anya (if you take comics into account).

6. Ship You Wish Was Canon - Some would say Bellarke, again, but I tend to consider it canon. It’s debatable, for sure (if you only consider making out/sex and/or “I love you” as markers of canon, it is not canon; if it is enough for the show to make it so blatant in the first 6 seasons that you have to actively search for ways to deny it to make it sound platonic, and for actors to confirm it was portrayed as romantic- than it is.)

So my answer would be: Kastle (Netflix Marvel shows), QuakeRider (AoS), and Octavia and Diyoza (The 100) and maybe Faith and Buffy (mostly in the sense that canon could have explored the nature of Faith’s feelings for Buffy a bit more and a bit more openly).

7. Ship that Most of the Fandom Hates, but You Love - Angel and Darla, May and Andrew, Coulson and Rosalind (hated how it ended though). Miller and Bryan (because they were more interesting than Mackson, and Bryan had a personality), Though “ships that most of the fandom ignores” would be a more apt term. The one that most of the fandom does hate and I like it is Octavia/Ilian - I liked it for what it was, two damaged people finding comfort together in what could have grown into something more - instead of the “we’re ve just met and talked to each other once and we’re already IN LOVE!” trope that the writers of The 100 were so fond of.

8. You Don’t Even Watch the Show, but You Ship It - Why would I ship something from a show I don’t watch?

9. Ship That You Wish Had A Different Storyline - BELLARKE (duh - the ending). Veronica and Logan (the ending, again). Coulson/Rosalind - they had such an interesting and fun dynamic that could have been explored much more; instead, the writers opted for one of the worst tropes there are, and I hated that entire plotline for so many reasons. Tyrol and Boomer on Battlestar Galactica - what they did with Boomer was crap. Baltar and Caprica - all the bad writing in season 4. This is a weird example of a ship that I shipped so hard for 3 seasons and that was given Endgame in every sense of the word, but, by that point, I barely cared anymore, because the writers forgot about their relationship throughout the final season and made it seem like they didn’t even remember each other, and then slapped a last minute happy ending. Plus they retconed/explained their connection in such a stupid and anticlimactic way that ruined it retroactively.

10. Favorite Ship(s) That’s Endgame - Everlark, Nora and Kevin (The Leftovers), Philip and Elizabeth (The Americans), and Josh and Della on Night and Day (a really obscure early 2000s UK show that was watched by maybe 100 people.) Some others worth mentioning: FitzSimmons, Niles and Daphne, Tim and Dawn (original UK The Office), Jake and Amy, Memori (the only bright spot in a rubbish ending). And of course, there’s Morticia and Gomez, though they are less Endgame and more AlwaysGame.

Taking A Semi-Break From Writing For Community (An Update)

I’ve gotten quite a bit of writing done today, which has made me want to start writing more. One of my New Years Resolutions is going to be to get an hour or so of writing in at least a few times a week.

A problem I have is that the majority of my drafts are Community requests. I’ve managed to finish off two Abed one-shots and some Trobed headcanons today, all of which I really enjoyed writing. But, when I started working on another Community fic, it made me realise that I’m running the risk of getting Community burnout. Don’t get me wrong, I still (and always will) love the show and writing for it, but I think I need more variety. I have some non-Community (i.e. Breaking Bad, Ghosts and Ted Lasso) drafts to work on, but it’s a bit daunting knowing I have so many Community requests, many of which I don’t have much inspiration to write.

On my to-do list of requests, I’ve put an ‘on hold’ section, indicating which requests I’m not going to be working on for a while. I’ve put all of my Marvel requests ‘on hold’ because I’m (albeit slower than I’d like to be) working on an MCU re-watch/catch-up in preparation to see No Way Home for the first time, and I feel like I’ll be better at writing for the MCU and its characters following this. That one Hot Fuzz request is also on hold, just because I’d like to re-watch it before I write it out, but I’m actually pretty excited to write it.

I’ve put around half of my Community requests on hold. This is because I’m just not inspired to write them right now, and I doubt that inspiration will come soon.

The fics not under the ‘on hold’ section are either being worked on or things that I’m excited/prepared to work on soon. I can’t see myself getting burnt out from writing these requests, basically.

Once I’ve gotten through the non-on-hold requests, I’ll take a look at the on holds and decide whether or not to scrap some of them.

I apologise if this frustrates anyone, but, at the same time, I know this is better for me in the long run.

I doubt many people, if any people, will actually be annoyed. I don’t think I have much to be sorry for, and I’m sure a lot of you will agree with that. I’m just a teenager with a Tumblr blog for fanfiction. It’s not like I’m making money off of this, so I can’t bring myself to feel bad for ‘letting anyone down’. If you are genuinely pissed off about this, tell me. I’d love a bit of drama. That was kind of a joke, by the way. I love drama, but I don’t think harassing teenagers for not wanting to write your fanfiction request out (even though they said they would do it months ago) is a good look.

If you have any non-Community requests, I’d be fairly happy to take them. If you have any Community requests, send them in, I guess, but I’m going to be more selective with them from now on. That’s what I’ve learned from this. If it’s a really good one, though, I’ll look forward to writing it.

Sorry I just caught up with your blog. I’m into wildestyles so I sometimes come and look up your tag and what you say about them because I love how much you love them haha but I’m not very active on tumblr so I tend to see things a while after you posted them.

No shade or aggression at all btw so don’t take it that way, but I think you’re mistaken about “COVID scandal” in the DWD set. They did stop for two weeks in November because there was a positive case among the crew but that’s all that happened ~COVID related with the set. It wasn’t really a scandal and they followed protocol, they didn’t get bad press or anything.

Also, that was in November and the news of them dating were in January, so I’m not sure what you think was the correlation? They didn’t play it up for PR at all. Olivia didn’t wear his pearls. She was wearing two Éliou necklaces with the names of her kids, but Harry had no involvement with that, other than the fact that he’s worn the brand before. They’re not even considered jewelry, it’s beaded necklaces, and a lot of celebs wear them. Harry doesn’t sponsor them or anything.

The media was just hungry for news of them. A friend of mine is friends with a bunch of LA paps and they all knew they were holed up in Harry’s house in Laurel Canyon, one of them was stationary outside the house trying to catch them but only got a few shots of Olivia alone and the media and fans at large didn’t really know Harry had that house so they weren’t the money shot. The Santa Barbara shots were tipped off. If you go to fans’ accounts you’ll see that there’s a set of pics that never made it to the press. She’s wearing a blue shirt and he’s wearing a robe. They’re having breakfast in a balcony and both have their hair wet. Those were the first pics they got taken together outside of set.

I don’t know this for a fact but the speculation I’ve heard from people in the know is that they negotiated for those pics to not come out in the press and instead gave the paps limited shots of the wedding. It was like “well, cover is blown, we’re gonna make our tabloid debut, might as well do it dressed up and formally and not LIKE THIS” But they’d been hiding their relationship since early November, unfortunately they couldn’t get away with it much longer.

That weekend they were papped leaving Santa Barbara but that was the last time they were caught together by paps until the Italy trip in July. They’ve been together 10 months and have been papped together five times (Santa Barbara is all the same pap and same place and within two days so I count it as one), Santa Barbara in January, Italy in July, and then three times in LA, once outside their house in Los Feliz, once walking to a restaurant (from their house), and once leaving a gym in Santa Monica. They’ve been spotted by fans a hell of a lot and some of those pics made it into articles but they had to insert the tweets to use the pics so obviously they weren’t taken by paps.

The lack of news from them (they were both also almost 100% silent on socials), right after the blow up of them as a couple is why the tabloids were scrambling to find stuff to write about them, hence the necklaces. It was like “they wear the same brand” and it came from fans on Twitter 💀 The press has gotten creative with them. They wrote articles about Olivia driving Harry’s car, about Olivia commenting an emoji in a post about him by a random dude who does podcasts, there were fifty articles about Olivia posting an old picture of Paul McCartney eating a watermelon lol

And in terms of “they did a world tour during the pandemic” ummm I wouldn’t say all that? They were in LA until mid February, then they flew to England, because Harry had to film a movie and Olivia’s kids were there since Jason was filming Ted Lasso. They stayed there until July, when they went to Italy for a couple of weeks, then they went back to LA. Pretty tame? Also I would say that Harry is more famous and has more influence than Taylor in the UK lol. It also helps that Harry IS British and Olivia has Irish citizenship. The UK has special agreements with Irish citizens. For going to America, Olivia is a citizen and Harry has a working visa, otherwise he couldn’t go (his sister and mom both posted about wanting to go to his tour but not being allowed despite being vaccinated).

I don’t know how Joe got in America. I’m assuming work visa as well. I don’t think Taylor would have any restrictions to go to the UK right now.

Oh, btw, Olivia has been to 3 out of 5 concerts so far! She even went to Missouri. She’s so cute! She just referred to her and Harry as “we” in her stories ❤️❤️❤️

Yeah this all tracks. It seemed like they were into the attention when the first pics of them dropped but I’ve changed my mind radically on them. I’d still call it a world tour, they’ve been to LA the UK Italy and now the tour. It’s fine they have reasons to but still.

hi! firstly i really want you to know this isn’t hate at all🤍 i adore your blog and your gifs so so much but i just had to type this out because the gifset you just posted upset me a little bit ngl. rebecca was literally saying she was a pedophile and grooming sam in the scene you put next to a romance movie. again i love love love your gifs a lot but i really don’t think this should be romanticized and normalized :/ sam’s brain isn’t fully developed yet and rebecca is closer to 50 than 40. he was 19 in season 1. her first instinct was to be upset and say she was grooming him. and imo she only got with him as a trauma response. it’s just not right. again - i really hope you don’t take this as hate because it’s not at all! i just got upset seeing that scene compared to a romantic comedy and i had to say something for my peace of mind. really hope you understand🤍have a really good day or night depending on where you are💌 and thank you for all you do for the fandom🥰

Hi anon! First off, I hear ya! Thanks for being so sweet as you spoke your truth, Ted would be proud 😆 I was a bit nervous to post that set cause I know s/r is a very touchy subject for many people, but I hope I tagged it appropriately so it would get filtered out for those not interested in seeing it :) The tl;dr of this answer is that the set wasn’t intended to be shippy or anti but rather just a look at the TL storyline next to the movie it’s in conversation with—especially because of the contrast you’re talking about!

Okay long version—giffing for me is first and foremost a means of processing and analyzing the show. I was watching the movie yesterday and I just really wanted to see the “resolution” of actual You’ve Got Mail side by side with Ted Lasso’s YGM plot line, particularly because they do look SO different. (Emphasis on processing cause I still don't think I'm able to fully, conclusively articulate my thoughts on it all lol.) It’s interesting of course because the realization moment is the resolution in YGM, and the movie tells us everything will be okay now despite the obstacles Kathleen and Joe have (classic romcom move). But in TL it’s really just the beginning of this pretty messy period for these two characters, and the show presents that laundry list of the reasons it can’t work long-term right there in Rebecca’s reaction.

I wanted to use the ‘I didn’t know who you were with’ line in the caption because I think it perfectly captures in its simplicity how these relationships are even allowed to happen in both TL and YGM, and how shocking it is even to the people in those relationships that they do (God, I didn’t realize! I didn’t know—!). Without the absurdity of this (beloved) romcom scenario aka the bubble of anonymity that is their internet communication, these two couples wouldn’t have happened. In YGM, it all ends up okay because Kathleen gets who she actually wanted and she’s tearfully shaking her head at, like, the luck of that. Rebecca on the other hand is unhappily blindsided, shaking her head even more vigorously at the bad (I think she’d say in that moment) luck of it. I think the visual contrast of their reactions is so interesting, and then you have Joe and Sam both being kind of encouraging and positive about it. Interesting!

There really is so much to unpack with that storyline. I’m not gonna get into the rest of their relationship’s lifecycle, but I agree with you that girl is working through some shit as we move forward! As well as learning some important things about herself that I hope make her more ready for a healthy relationship with her own self and a healthy romantic relationship with Ted :))) I hope one day we get an oral history of the show or something cause I reeeally wanna know what those writers' room conversations were like! Anyway, I am sorry to have brought distress to your dash <3 have a great day/night/weekend/etc!!
