Stonehenge Autumn Equinox Celebrations. ☀️
#Mabon
The September equinox (or southward equinox) is the moment when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, heading southward.
Because of differences between the calendar year and the tropical year, the September equinox may occur from September 21 to 24.
At the equinox, the Sun, as viewed from the equator, rises due east and sets due west.
Before the southward equinox, the Sun rises and sets more northerly, and afterwards, it rises and sets more southerly.
The equinox may be taken to mark the end of astronomical summer and the beginning of astronomical autumn (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere, while marking the end of astronomical winter and the start of astronomical spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.

If you don't mind me asking, you're somewhere safe from the Canadian wildfires, right? Obviously the smoke is still gonna be an issue, but you don't need to evacuate, right? 😰
The smoke is bad but I'm not in any active wildfire range. Thank you for the concern!

maybe it because i grew up in the north east but when i lived in europe everyone felt so much more touchy but maybe it was because of the hugs and kisses to greet and say good bye. like a guy i worked with, who i met in person for the first time expected me to kiss him on both cheeks and i felt so odd but also im from a very not touchy place
this isn't without exceptions but it tends to be colder climates cultures are less touchy feely in general tbh. its just a general trend thing. france & everything above it as well as on the same latitude are around the same latitude as canada/northern US. person by person and family by family as well as community by community studies add more differing representations tho

i very much understand the desire to mock bettman, but it does feel worth noting that one of the single most defining aspects of bettman's tenure as commissioner has been promoting teams in the south. like, this has been a central nhl narrative for about thirty years now. he practically proscribed himself in canada for refusing to give them an expansion team, for moving two different canadian teams down south, and for fighting a multi million dollar lawsuit to stop the preds being relocated to hamilton. he's stood by arizona through the triple-fold mortification of bankruptcy, eviction and now playing out of a college arena because he simply will not let them move. the classic bettman caricature is that he will pour literally any amount of money into keeping hockey teams in the south and out of canada.
bettman is the number one supporter of the so-called sun belt strategy, and his legacy as commissioner will live or die by whether or not it succeeds. he really isn't upset about this playoffs result. a lot of people are going to argue that this is kind of his dream scenario, his moment of triumph after thirty years of mockery for trying to make 'hockey in the desert' happen.

After the Winter
Some day, when trees have shed their leaves      And against the morning’s white The shivering birds beneath the eaves      Have sheltered for the night, We’ll turn our faces southward, love,      Toward the summer isle Where bamboos spire the shafted grove      And wide-mouthed orchids smile. And we will seek the quiet hill      Where towers the cotton tree, And leaps the laughing crystal rill,      And works the droning bee. And we will build a cottage there      Beside an open glade, With black-ribbed blue-bells blowing near      And ferns that never fade. Claude McKay

msg 1. [City of Seoul] Boundary breach emergency message for residents of Seoul. PREPARE TO EVACUATE, and allow children and the infirm to evacuate first!
msg 2. [Ministry of Public Admin. & Safety] Informing you that the earlier message sent by the City of Seoul was in error.
What I did in the intervening time:
1. Text a mutual in Europe going, I don't actually know what they mean by evacuate. Would've been useful to do a drill sometime.
2. Turn on the news.
3. Wonder if I should take my cat with me or leave him here in my apt with all the cat food open and the bathtub filled with water.

Fits and starts
The colorization of Michigan is happening the way it always happens - erratically.
We tend to think of the autumn color-change as an army, marching north to south, in lockstep with cooling temperatures. In fact, it's a series of scattered skirmishes.
It's the time of year when you see a variety of colors flying in a single woodlot - in a single tree, even.
Over the the past two days we've driven from central Indiana to northern Michigan. Some of the landscape is clinging to summer green Most of it is offering a hint of things to come. Ironically, the most brilliant colors we saw were the furthest south.
In Michigan, things were coloring up around Gaylord. but on Lake Huron, it's nothing but green. The lake's warmth and moisture always slow the change.
So much for the southward-march theory.

You know. In hindsight, I should've figured out my body was slowly drying out around the time that medicines meant to dissolve in the mouth just... stopped doing that. Like hello. They couldn't have all been bad batches.

Fog update: it’s coming, it’s bad (cyan is what has been overtaken already and darker blue is what’s next). Unintentionally made a great strategic choice by picking Eene as my starting area bc now the north/east of my evil empire is protected by a mountain range
