In the name of mercy & justice

Imagine how poor Daneel felt when he came upon Sarton’s body right there in their home, in the Spacetown dome that they shared.

Practically newborn and naïve to the world, still with learning to do, Daneel comes out one morning and sees on the dome floor the messy remains of the human being who’d created him—who’d been raising and teaching him, whom he was created in the image of—lying there blasted to smithereens with a massive hole where his chest used to be.

Daneel was already queasy just from seeing the poisoning attempt on Gruer’s life on Solaria (iirc), so imagine the levels of positronic distress he suffered from Sarton’s death. Not just First Law distress but with survivor’s guilt on top of it, since he was Enderby’s intended target. Sarton lay dead just because he was an early riser, because Daneel hadn’t answered the door. (I wonder if Daneel had been indisposed. The phrasing makes it sound like Daneel had been unavailable somehow.)

And yet, Daneel learned the meaning of mercy and justice, and showed it when releasing Julius Enderby at the end of the case. (That justice doesn’t just mean enforcement of the all laws, which was his original definition and was what Fastolfe said was all he could possibly understand as a robot, instead of more abstract notions.)

I just went through an elimination thing on discord for this. hope you’re happy.

Jeff slid up to the counter, a smirk on his face. Luke was looking down at the plates in front of him, plopping some food from the plate onto a pan on the stove. The intense concentration on his face was one that jeff loved to see, especially when he was working on something he loved.

Luke sighed once the marinated meat was on the stove, and sighed, wiping the back of his sleeve against his forehead.

“Hey,” Jeff said, a twinkle in his eye as Luke jumped in surprise and turned to face him. Jeff looked up and down Luke’s body, his smirk growing in size. “What’s cookin’, good lookin’?”

Luke started to laugh, placing his cooking utensils down. “Dunno, not much other than some...” Luke paused for effect. “Meat.”

There was a slightly sexual undertone there. Jeff snorted, and leaned onto Luke, looking into his eyes. “We can eat that meat later, in private, but for now... I’m just here to help, what’re we cooking?”

“Well...” Luke brought up the recipe, clicking some buttons on the stove as he did so. “Since I’m also going to prepare some rice, could you get the rice ready?”

I don't know you but you could be suffering from sudden deafness/hearing loss. If it won't get better soon, please see an ENT specialist!

it’s better now, luckily! however, a trip to an ENT might not be the worst idea.

i’m honestly not sure what goes on in my right ear... my left will pop or adjust during the flight and be fine. but my right ear, for whatever reason, the pressure will just build and build during the descent and it becomes painful and my hearing will suffer, but it just will NOT pop, no matter what i try. (when i try to pop it, i just feel/hear a strange whistle/buzz sound...) and it usually stays feeling plugged up and painful for like 45 minutes. once i get back on the ground, it does slowly adjust back and the pain goes away, but i still never actually feel a defined release of pressure at any point. it kind of scares me because i’m frightened of my eardrum getting damaged or something :/

ah bro i used to get something like that all the time, it sucks. turns out the insides of my ears are super narrow which made wax build up until i literally couldn't hear in one or both ears. id reccomend going to a clinic if you're able to!

i don’t think it’s that? i maybe should have clarified that it only happens when i fly and i never have this problem going about my typical day. thank you for the advice, however! actually... you just reminded me that i used to get terrible ear aches all the time as a baby/child and i hadn’t considered that they may have permanently affected my ears in some way until just now, actually.
