Vale's First Year in 250cc - 1998

Japanese GP, Suzuka “Maybe the perfect thing about 250 is I can get out of bed later! I used to get up around 7am every day for 125 practice, and that’s too early, a big problem for me. Now life is very much better because 250 practice later so I can stay in bed until 9am. I keep strange hours – at home I never go to bed before one or two in the morning, and I never get up before 11am if I can help it.” “I like Suzuka very much because it’s fun and Japan is a paradise for me because I love computer games. The track is great and I love all the shops and amusement arcades in the circuit complex – it’s like a big amusement park. Suzuka has to be the most expensive GP for me! This year I spent so much money on new games for my PlayStation and on souvenir F1 models of Hakkinen and Senna. I also bought a very trick radio-controlled Tamiya Subaru, with all the special parts that are impossible to buy in Italy.” “I think I will ask Beggio - he’s the Aprilia boss - to fix it for me to meet the Spice Girls. They are now promoting Aprilia scooters, and I’m a big fan. It would be fantastic to meet Scary Spice. Maybe I should join the band – I’d be Fast Spice!” “It’s good to be racing again after such a long winter and so much testing. I only had one real holiday – I went snowboarding for the first time. I crashed so many times. Now I’m a racer I’m more careful on skis than when I was a boy, but not too careful!”

Malaysian GP, Johor “Johor was another expensive grand prix for me – very expensive! On Sunday I lost the prize money for first place and earlier in the week I lost one million lira in a bet with Loris Capirossi. We stayed at the same hotel and I bet him that he couldn’t jump off a first-floor hotel walkway into the swimming pool. It was a pretty risky jump because he had to jump away from the walkway and there was a four metres drop to the pool, and no room for a run up! He nearly chickened out, but I’ll never pay him. Well, I’ll see if he forgets first.”

Spanish GP, Jerez “I didn’t miss the discos either, because I had a lot of late nights in clubs before I went to Malaysia. Maybe you know, but there’s a big fight in Italy at the moment to make clubs shut earlier. They close at 4am on Saturday night, but some people want them to close at two, because a lot of the kids have accidents when they drive home. But it’s crazy, if they shut the clubs at two, for sure there’s no way I’ll go home. I’ll go to another bar or to a party with my friends. I always stay up until six or seven on Sunday morning! Okay, maybe some of the kids drink too much or take drugs, but you don’t only get drink and drugs in clubs.” “It’s great to be back in Europe after the first two races. I have my camper which makes life very comfortable, the camper only holds two people, but that’s okay. I don’t like my dad to sleep with me, because when it gets to ten o’clock he starts saying: ‘Vale, Vale, go to bed!’, but I can’t go to sleep before one or two. We did share a motorhome in ‘96 and it made life very, very difficult for me. Dad didn’t make it to Japan or Malaysia and it’s good to have him around again. He knows what it’s like to be a GP rider, so he keeps in the background, maybe watches a bit out on the track, and lets me get on with it.” “Next race of course is Mugello, which is fantastic – lots of Italian fans. But I hope it doesn’t get too crazy for me in the paddock. Someone told me I should hire some security gorillas to look after me, but the organisers of the Milan motorcycle show did that for me, and they pushed the fans around. I didn’t like that, so maybe I’ll do what I did at the Bologna motorcycle show last autumn – dress up with dark shades, a wig like Ruud Gullit [the Dutch football star] and a baseball cap. I looked just like a fan and didn’t get hassled once all day. Or maybe I will dress up as a Spice Girl!”

Italian GP, Mugello “The noise at Mugello is mad – the fans on the hills rev up engines all day and all night. Some people bring big, old car motors in the back of vans, with big, open megaphone exhausts. They just rev them on the rev- limiter until the engines blow: pa-pa-pa-pa-pa... boom! It’s very funny! It’s fun to go up on the hill on Saturday evening. Two years ago I wasn’t so well known and I went up there and blew up someone’s CBR engine. Ooops! Last year was very dangerous for me – everyone shouting ‘Rossi! Rossi!’ and jumping on me. There was this big wall of people and only one way out – through the showerblock, so I rode my scooter through the showerblock. If I hadn’t, I’d probably still be up there.” “Mugello is always a lot of pressure for me, but maybe this year isn’t so bad as last year when I was on top of the points in 125s, so I had to win. This time as usual I spent so much time signing autographs, taking photographs with fans and talking to journalists and TV people. It’s okay, but it’s a little problem, because I need so much time to set up the 250. It’s not easy like the 125. You must think a lot and speak to your technicians all the time about your engine, your gearbox, your suspension, your chassis. Busy! Busy!” “The other thing that takes a lot of time is the girls! There are always a lot of girls at every Grand Prix, but a lot of really young girl fans come to see me in Italy, 12 and 13-year-olds. I prefer older girls who are real fans of me as a racer – not teeny-boppers.” “I wasn’t so confident before Mugello because while I was at home I played football and lost, I played tennis and lost, I rode motocross and lost. The only thing I won was minicars – I am the champion! We got beaten in a five-a-side soccer match, six-one, then a friend beat me at tennis, six-one, then Marco [Melandri] beat me at motocross. I’m always fighting with Marco on motocross but he’s faster than me. I’m getting better though – at the start of the year he’d beat me by five or six seconds, now it’s only one or two. I have much fear when I ride motocross because I’m not good at flying. We don’t go crazy; it would be stupid to get hurt doing that. Motocross is great for my muscle power though. I don’t go the gym much in the summer because I want to be outside, so motocross is perfect.”

French GP, Circuit Paul Ricard “Of course I’m looking forward to the World Cup. I love football and you get a great atmosphere for the World Cup. For sure I will see all of Italy’s matches on TV with my friends. I may also go to Paris for one of our matches to work with Italian TV. I hope it’s the final! But I think it will be difficult for Italy. For me, Brazil are the favourites, maybe also France; they have some good players.”

Madrid GP, Jarama “The Saturday before Jarama I went to a crazy disco in Riccione – a lot of people were out of their minds, really high! It’s incredible what the young do for enjoyment! I nearly got into a fight in the club too. This guy came up to me and asked for a cigarette. I told him I don’t smoke. So he asked me again, and I said I don’t smoke. He said ‘You don’t want to give me a cigarette because you’re Valentino Rossi’ and he wanted to fight me! Luckily a friend of mine – a big friend – arrived just in time. That’s another reason why I must get bigger muscles!”

Dutch TT, Assen “I love Assen – it’s a fun track – so it was great to win my first 250 GP there, especially after I won there on the 125 last year. The only thing I hate about Assen is the weather, but it didn’t rain until the 500 went out. God must like 250 racing!” “Maybe my new hair style gave me good luck. I dyed it orange before I left home for Holland, but only when I got to Assen did I realise that orange is the country’s national colour. So far I’ve been blue, blonde and orange, which leaves so many more colours to choose from. I think silver will be next.” “The weekend before Assen I went to the Misano World Superbike round. The track is only 10km from where I live, so I rode there on a scooter with some friends. It was like being a kid again! We watched from the side of the track, not from the paddock. We just laid down in the grass, sunbathed and cheered like crazy when Aaron Slight won both races. I’m a big Slight fan, so it was another perfect day. Aaron’s a really nice guy, but I’m also a big fan of Haga. He didn’t have such a great day – he crashed in both races – but that didn’t stop him having a big party on Sunday night. I went out to dinner with him and the Yamaha team that evening. I had already met him at the Suzuka GP and although he doesn’t speak Italian or English we had a very good Japanese/Italian interpreter. He’s incredible – he drank so much beer! He’s a good guy and very funny.” “The Superbike paddock is great, very different from GPs. Everyone is so serious in GPs – they have to be because the racing is so competitive. In Superbike it’s not like that, the whole Yamaha team was drinking on Sunday night: chief mechanics, mechanics, riders and even the number one guys of Yamaha Japan and Yamaha Italy. I think it’s better like that, but the scene in GPs is too intense for that kind of thing.” “A few days before Misano I went to Paris to be a studio guest on Rae TV for the Italy v Cameroon game. Three-nil! It was fun, but I didn’t get to talk much and I never met the Italian team, because I was in Paris and they were playing in Montpelier!”

British GP, Donington Park “It was a bad end to a bad week for me. We watched the Italy v France World Cup game on Friday night in the Aprilia hospitality unit – there were a lot of Italians and a lot of French making a lot of noise, so it was very funny. Of course I was sad to see Italy get beaten, especially on penalties. For sure if they’d won the cup there would have been a really huge party all over Italy. I was looking forward to that. Now I want Brazil to win. I was glad to see Germany go out on Saturday because I didn’t want them to win. Sorry, Germany!” “The guy who really impressed me during the World Cup was Michael Owen, the English striker, he’s only 18 or something and he scored an amazing goal against Argentina. Maybe he’s the Valentino Rossi of football!” “We had our own paddock World Cup at Donington on Thursday, which was really shit, because we played three games and lost three games. I played in the Italian team with Melandri, Boscoscuro, Scalvini, Locatelli, Borsoi and Carpani. First we played the Suzuki 500 team and lost, then we played Team Rainey and lost, and finally we played Dorna, and lost. Dorna were all Spanish and very good. But the games weren’t so much fun because the pitch was tiny and really bumpy. Last year we had the paddock World Cup at Imola on a full-size pitch, and I scored twice. Nice!” “I have to say I don’t like leaving home to go racing at this time of year - there are too many beautiful girls around where I live, and they don’t wear so many clothes during the summer. Before I left home for Donington we played this really fun game of football in Riccione, on a soft rubber pitch, covered with soap and water, so you slide all over the place! It’s very difficult even to touch the ball, and you spend most of the time crashing into each other. We were laughing so much we were crying.” “I’ve got a new PlayStation car racing game at home: Grand Turismo. It’s fantastic and I’ve been spending a lot of time playing it. You start off with a not-so-good car, and then win prize money to get trick tuning gear for the engine and chassis. Now I have a Subaru with 350bhp. It’s so fast! I’ve heard there are also some good bike racing games coming out soon – a World Superbike game from Virgin, and the Aoki brothers are working on a GP racing game with Namco. Maybe if they’re really good, I’ll just give up racing and stay home with my PlayStation. It doesn’t hurt so much when you crash.”

German GP, Sachsenring “Now we have a four-week holiday before Brno, but I’m going to spend most of my time on the beach near my home – it’s sunny and the girls are nice, that’s all I need! But I am going away for one week – a racers’ holiday with Loris Reggiani, Roberto Locatelli and Melandri. We’re going to Tunisia to mess about with jet skis and fast boats. Should be a lot of fun!” “People ask me why I don’t have a really flash car, but I like the Impreza. And anyway I live in a town with small streets – not so great with a supercar. Maybe next year I will buy a Porsche S4. At the moment I think I am maybe too young for a Porsche. I guess I can afford one but I don’t want to have everything I want too soon. I’m still young and have plenty of time ahead of me for doing things.” “Perugini has a Ferrari, but I think a Porsche has more class. Capirossi has a Lamborghini Diablo with 500bhp, like an F1 car. They’re great cars but they’re like a Fiat 128 inside! Also you can lend your Porsche to your mother so she can go and do the shopping. Try doing that with a Lamborghini – Iimpossible! For me, Porsche is number one, for sure.”

Imola GP, Imola “It’s nice to win again – especiallly at home. Maybe my Italian hairdo worked, which makes me think, because I won in Holland, when I had my hair orange, which is their national colour. So maybe I’ll dye my hair like the Catalan flag for Barcelona – red and yellow. Only problem – I’ll look like an oil flag!” “I could hardly move for girls outside my pit at Imola. Too many girls. Also some very nice girls, but I don’t have time! Maybe they like my new hairstyle. Imola was a tough race for me. Not because of the girls, but because it’s a very technical track with many slow chicanes, so we had trouble finding the right settings for my Aprilia.” “I’ve decided I prefer 125 riders to 250 riders – they’re much more fun and much more honest. It’s better. If you do something bad on the track, the other 125 riders come and tell you to your face. If you do something bad in 250, they just smile and say hello, and then say bad things about you behind your back.” “A lot of the 250 riders aren’t as friendly or as well behaved as 125 riders. 125 racing is like a family – everyone is friends, it’s not like that in 250, and I guess it’s probably the same in 500.” “Back at the start of the season, Ukawa got in my way on purpose when I was on a fast qualifying lap, to try and slow me down. He said he didn’t see me, but for sure he did see me. The same has happened other times. No one ever got in my way on purpose when I was racing 125 GPs in ‘96 and ‘97. In 250, the other riders seem to get angry if you’re fast, they like you more if you’re slow.” “Everyone knows that 125 battles are often very close and very crazy, but we still manage to stay friends. I don’t like the way some 250 riders behave. Before I came into 250 a lot of the riders were my heroes, but not any more. I hope I don’t become like one of them – if I do, I hope you will tell me.”

Catanlan GP, Catalunya “I don’t think the GP bosses liked my friend the chicken at Catalunya. The rules say you’re not allowed to give people pillion rides, but the rules don’t say anything about chickens. Maybe I’ll get into trouble, maybe they’ll put me in jail, but I won the race, so I don’t care. As long they let me out in time for Australia. Why a chicken? Simple, a friend of mine runs a chicken farm, and he’s one of my sponsors.” “We had a big party after I won at Imola – a lot of people, but I didn’t have a hangover the next morning, because I don’t drink alcohol. Maybe the occasional beer, for fun. But I’m only 19, plenty of time for drinking later!”

Australian GP, Phillip Island “I got to Australia on Wednesday and left on Sunday night after the race, so I had no time to see anything, apart from some koalas, kangaroos and possums at a nature reserve on the island. I spent some time in Sydney in ‘96 and I think Australia is my favourite country, outside Italy. I love the people and they’re very passionate about bike racing. They were all behind Mick [Doohan] over the weekend and I saw there were some shops at the track selling black flags with a number six on them. Very funny! [The flags were taking the mickey out of number six 500 rider Max Biaggi who had been black-flagged at the Catalan GP.]” “Since they cancelled Rio I lost all chance of winning the world title. But I’m happy we’re not going there because the track is shit. So the last race is Argentina. I’ve never been there before, so I’m looking forward to it, especially since some people tell me the girls there are the most beautiful in the world.”

Argentine GP, Buenos Aires “It's great to win again - my fifth win of the year - hooray! But I lost the championship by just three points, so, shit!” “It's been a long season, but I could still do another few races no problem. Which we' 11 have to do next year because we have 16 or 17 grands prix in 1999. In fact I' m still not finished - I have a rally at the end of November and next season I' m doing a big event at Misano, racing against lot of other bike racers, doing motocross, karting, rally cars and Formula Renault. It should be a lot of fun - I think I' Il be racing with [Kevin] Schwantz, Reggiani, Mamola, Harada, Melandri, Haru and Nobu Aoki, [Luca] Cadalora, [Roberto] Locatelli and Criville. I' not too worried about winning, I just want to have a laugh.” “On Saturday he took a short cut. round the back of the circuit, and was going through this corner at about 20kph when I arrived on a very fast lap. It was really frightening, so I paid him back by kicking him as we returned to the pits. That was my first trip to Argentina, but Buenos Aires is good: nice place, nice girls!”

Billboard USA Exclusion Zone Episode 21 (01/13/2024)

Now that all the Christmas stuff is gone, what do we have to replace all of the Christmas songs? Well seems like we are still stuck with what 2023 had to offered. Regional Mexican, J-Pop, old songs that went viral on TikTok, and some legacy songs just debuted. And yet looking at the chart reset I think showed a bigger picture that I will get to on my blog, stay tuned. Enough stalling let's get into these meaty lists of new arrival

49. "Goat" by Number_I

You know the year hasn't even started yet and we might have a contender for the worst song of the year. Like imagine if Fleeting Lullaby by Ado was remixed by a B-tier boyband and the productions sounded like the backwash of Gen 3 boyband group sound...you get this.

51. "Rompe La Dompe" by Peso Pluma, Junior H, Oscar Maydon

This is probably the most well produced Peso Pluma song in corridos scene. I love how chill the song is. Definitely needed after...that car crash the size of opening lap of Belgian GP in 1998 proportion.

64. "Wherever u r" by UMI ft. V from BTS

Seems like V beside making solid RnB album, also want to platform small RnB artist as well. And it's a great song to boot as well. I'm instantly hooked by UMI's voice with the melodic guitar, spacious production, and just immaculate atmosphere which is perfect for the sort of cut about long distance longing. I do think the percussion is a bit loud. But hey it's still a high recommendation

114. "Poco A Poco" by Xavi ft. Los Dareyes de La Sierra

Seems like the train of regional Mexican sound is still rolling because we have a newcomer by the name of Xavi. He's not Spanish by the way he's from Arizona. But, he has been going up on the chart with La Diabla which is a good song. And this one might be better due to the fact that there's a slap bass in it.

132. "Maria Mariah" by Silva MC, DJ F7, C NO BEAT & MC Meno Dani

10/10 would Brazilian funk again.

154. "Modo DND" by Xavi & Tony Aguirre

I feel like the reason why I've been positive with Xavi because in terms of corridos tumbados, his sounds are very full and competently produced for once. I love the horn lines here the most because it's kinda like all over the place.

161. "Murder On The Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor

TikTok strikes again and this time it might be their best find yet. Coming from the Saltburn ending where Barry Keoghan "dancing" to this song, we have quite possible the reason why Future Nostalgia existed in the first place. I'm glad that Americans are listening to this two decades later. The lush nu-disco production that didn't aged a day with the liquid guitar, tight bass, and the strings. Every seconds of this song is just tight and controlled which could be attributed to Gregg Alexander aka the bald guy with the bucket hat from New Radicals. The guitar solo is just an icing on the cake on otherwise fantastic tune.

162. "Husn" by Anuv Jain

Never thought I would hear a song from India like this to be honest. But hey it's a nice surprised to hear this type of sounds in other languages that I am not familiar with.

170. "Overdrive" by Ofenbach ft. Norma Jean Martine

It's kinda cool how dance genre has probably its stronger year in 2023. This is the first one I'm listening to this year and yeah the streak keep on going here. Never have I heard more beautiful piano house since...shit probably Hold My Hand.

172. "Alucin" by Eugenio Esquivel X Grupo Marca Registrada X Sebastian Esquivel

This is probably the best "Edm mixed with regional mexican" song I've heard. Though when your competition is a song by Fuerza Regida featuring Marshmello...yeah

186. "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake ft. Justin Bieber

Not gonna lie, the sound of DJ Snake just didn't hold up so well with time. This song in 2024 sounds so empty and devoid of anything interesting.

190. "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Meanwhile this song is timeless and could be played at any time where you are feeling down or just sick of the bullshit get thrown at you.

191. "Livin On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi

Just listening to this one song and you will get why hair metal was at one point the biggest genre in the world in the mid 80s.

193. "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga

Meanwhile just listened to this song and you'll get why Lady Gaga is an icon and deserved her acolades.

197. "Be A Flower" by Ryokuoushoku Shakai

Wait so this is the song that became an opening for an anime about ancient China? Why does this bang so hard????

199. "One Dance" by Drake ft. Wizkid & Nyla

One Dance is a good song but this song marked the exact point where Drake stopped trying most of the times because his status as #1 hit makers has been sealed.

200. "Lean On" by Major Lazer ft. DJ Snake & MO

It's a good even great EDM song but it's pale in comparison to its competition at that time.

I highly recommend everyone listening to these songs

4. Spanish GP 2016 - Nico & Lewis crashing into eachother in the first lap like two INSANE people and then it was good racing from red bull and ferrari throughout :)

3. Suzuka GP 1998 - Mika Hakkinen wins the championship, i listen to lovely sounds and fall asleep no problem, lovely race (the '97 suzuka was also real good, villeneuve and schumacher and irvine were all on fire)

2. SPA FRANCORCHAMPS 2000 MY ABSOLUTE BELOVED - best overtake ever by mika hakkinen on both the backmarker (last car) and michael schumacher the whole race was a masterpiece tbh bcs spa is wonderful ❤ but that was something else

it took me ten years to answer but only cause i was rounding everything up. by that i literally mean i reread (skimmed) the book for my favorite parts and boy oh boy there sure is a lot of good parts to his book. (and this doesn't even include the 'how to be an f1 driver' which is a whole other list of favorites.)

This got...incredibly long so it's under the cut so i don't clog anyone's dash.

Welcome one and all to a poorly written book report!!! Jenson is an author truly meant for the people. That's a genuine comment because there are favorite parts for me in his book that not only make it interesting to read but easy to read (which is very important to me because i'm incredibly bad at reading.)

Just a general warning for Jenson's book there are some big trigger warnings. I'm not going to talk about anything like this in my reviews but just in case someone is like 'huh i wanna read his book' just be aware. I will list them specifically with page numbers in this next paragraph.

Tw: death and tw: food/weight/diet mentions as well as tw: crash. Death mentions of various drivers (including a child) and his father are on pages 78-81/289/309-15/320. Food/diet/weight mentions page 75 and possibly elsewhere scattered throughout but thats the biggest mention of it I could find. Crash mention on pages 170-173. There are other various ones from his karting days but I apologize cause I did not mark those down as diligently.

That being said! Here are a few things I just love about his book:

1. his stylization!!! - idk if it was him, the editor, the ghost writer, whatever. whoever decided to write this as if it was verbatim of what jenson was saying is *chef's kiss* perfect. 10/10 for stylization. by that i mean you read it and can clearly hear his voice while you're reading. no stuffy words, no added fancy phrases. just pure dumbassery and common speak, which is so refreshing. in my opinion, it reads like a conversation and it was easy for me to follow. Here's some examples!

- "I'd met him (Alain Prost) before, but it was during the whirlwind whistle-stop schmoozefest of the Spanish GP in 1998,..." (Button, 107)

- "'Oh, wicked,' I snapped, not really taking it out on Richard but yeah, taking it out on Richard." (Button, 206)

- "In China, Flavio Briatore, my great friend from Benetton (sarcasm alert), ..." (Button, 222)

- (in reference to parking in the wrong place at the Monaco GP 2009) "...feeling a bit of a Charlie having parked up in the wrong place, but not that much of a Charlie, to be honest, because I'd just won Monaco so eat that, suckers,..." (Button, 227)

- (in reference to the 2009 season and wanting to win the Driver's Championship) "Valencia was a disappointing race for me, although Rubens won, which was great obviously (gnashes teeth),..." (Button, 231)

- "At one point we visited a restaurant and a bunch of turkeys from a TV company set up a stepladder outside the door so that i'd have to walk underneath it in order to reach the street. We pushed it over. Don't look at me like that." (Button, 233)

- "The double diffuser was an advantage, of course. But it makes me laugh (translation: it pisses me right off) when people say that we only won the World Championship because of it." (Button, 241)

- (in reference to some of lewis' tweets) "Personally I wasn't gasping in horror and clutching at my pearl necklace concerning his use of 'WTF'." (Button, 297)

2. how incredibly relatable it is - he really brings himself out of the spotlight. i know a lot of people that get carried away with athletes and other "famous" people and put them on a pedestal but jenson doesn't even let you do that. throughout the book he reminds you that he is human along with his other fellow drivers. good things (and bad things) happen to them and to us. he doesn't allow any room to thing it's all glitz and glam. he starts off the book explaining simple childhood memories and quickly goes to talk about his family life (the good, the bad and certainly the ugly of it all), girlfriends that he's had over the years, how he was almost a father at 19, how he knew he wasn't in love anymore, his focus on race days and getting short with anyone who interrupts him (haha i do that), his passion for racing (how he got it and how he lost it and then regained it) just...real things. i know that's the point of an autobiography but he really doesn't make anything out to more than it is. again, refreshing.

3. his short chapters - there are no examples for this but i'll just let you know, this helped out with reading it so much! the man has a lot to say and switches topics often so usually chapters are only a few pages. sometimes he'll talk about braking techniques or tires and those chapters will be a little longer but otherwise the chapters are 3-4 pages. good for him, i say, because again, it makes it easy to read, interesting to read and allows you to read chapter to chapter so you have a place to easily stop if you want. (usually though, you hate to put the book down.)

4. the pictures - now, i could probably googles some of these or they are in my jbseries (shameless promo for that series go check it out here) but there are some from his early ages that obviously weren't taken by the pros of f1. i can potentially upload some of them if someone hasn't but again, putting pictures in was super helpful to a) visualize just what he was talking about and b) see the young lad mucking around at home or on the track.

5. accent usage - this ties back in with stylization but i want to make it its own point. anytime an accent comes up, he murders it in cold blood and i mean it. it's terrible. i'll let the examples speak for themselves:

- (post-Monaco GP when he parks in the wrong place) "I parked the car, all excited, only to have an official piss on my chips. 'Excusez-moi, monsieur, you haff parked in ze wrong place.'" (Button, 226)

- "...but at least I got to join the two Red Bulls on the podium, where Sebastian turned to me, fixed me with that look of his, a cross between quizzical and bemused, and said, 'It is nice enjoying ziss podium viz you. It iz good.' He was right. It bloody well was." (Button, 244)

- "The tifosi used to say to me, 'Hey, Buttoni, when-a you gonna come drive for us,'..." (Button, 303)

6. his praise towards fellow drivers!! - so the man really loves some of the other drivers. and he makes a point to mention it!

- mentions of Daniel and how he is "podium gold" (Button, 282) because of the shoey and how he wouldn't "drink champagne out of my girlfriend's sweaty trainer, let alone Daniel Ricciardo's." (Button, 283)

- Practically every mention of Seb. It's either an 'oh btw seb was there' or 'wow seb and i were best friends. he's such a good job. i admire him a lot' or "Slightly contradicting what I said earlier about never winning in a Toro Rosso, Sebastian had done exactly that the previous season." (Button, 223) and "As for Sebastian, he's probably the hardest-working driver on the grid in terms of his time with the team. He reminds me of Michael Schumacher like that,..." (Button, 223)

- he said a lot about lewis (honestly a lot which hi they were teammates so it makes sense) and a lot of it was praise. not all but also nothing malicious of course. but, i've rambled for long enough. just know lewis is one of the best in jenson's eyes and he mentions it in this book and in his 'how to be an f1 driver' book.

7. his entire chapter on winning the championship - again, short chapters but pages 234-239 are about the Brazilian GP and for sure I cried.

8. some other random stories I enjoy from his book:

- when he was five he wanted to test physics (my words, not his) and took a tire from the garage and tossed it down the slanted drive, making it bounce all the way down and across the street. when confronted by his sister as to why he said "I just wanted to see what would happen." (Button, 20)

- he got into his dad's car (on that inclined drive still) and after pretending to race with it, he "decided to have a fiddle with the handbrake as well, and somehow managed to let it off." (Button, 21) which, ha ha, the car started to roll backwards, his sister came running outside, tried to stop it but didn't work so the Jaguar was sent backwards across the road and into the neighbors' wall.

- kids at school couldn't get his name right. "'Jenson' was impossibly exotic for Somerset so they settled on either JB, which has stuck, or 'Jason', which was probably just mishearing now I come to think about it. Not forgetting, of course, the inevitable nicknames that I had to pretend I thought were funny: 'Zipper', 'Jennifer' (bit late with that one), and my personal favorite, 'Genitals'." (Button, 27) He calls this back in multiple parts of the book. One where he's at school and is at an assembly "And then the curtain went back and hey presto, it's whatshisname Jason Button,..." (Button, 56) and "...and they're going to write 'Here Lies Jesper Button' on my gravestone.'" (Button, 92)

- when honda found out that they weren't continuing, one of the options was for jenson to drive for toro rosso in 2009. (think about that alternate universe for a second and tell me you don't want to walk into the ocean) he mentioned "[Toro Rosso] wanted me to bring money in the form of sponsorship to help fund the team, which was singularly unappealing." (Button, 207) So, essentially, he avoided being a RB driver (thank god) all because he didn't want to get sponsors

- someone thought he was sebastian so he got a free meal out of it (Button, 265)

- he got incredibly drunk with some other drivers and he broke his hand (305-306)

i'll be real honest: there is a whole other half of the book essentially that i could put in this section but i've taken too long to answer this and i have to get ready for work. just know that he's got *tons* of stories and is not afraid to share them. like i've said: it's the good, the bad and the ugly of his life. he doesn't hold back, whether that's self deprecating jokes or jaunts towards others or explaining in detail just exactly how to brake at a corner. absolutely i recommend the book to anyone and everyone who wants to read it and get to know a new side of Jenson "JB" "Genitals" Button.

In celebration of November being Native American Heritage Month, here’s a masterlist below compiled of over 90+ Comanche faceclaims categorised by gender with their occupation and ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. The Comanche are a Native American and Native Mexican tribe who historically have lived in a region they call “Comancheria”, which encompasses the US states of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas and the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The majority of Comanche now live in Oklahoma or Texas. If you want an extra challenge use random.org to pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever faceclaim or whichever project you desire.

Madonna Albums Ranked:

Madonna, who has been in the game since the 1980s, has given us every genre one can imagine. From disco, to pure pop, to alternative to R&B, there is a reason she has stayed in the game so long. This list looks at all her official studio albums. This excludes I’m Breathless, Something to Remember and the Evita soundtrack. I also took into consideration the overall legacy and how the album holds up, especially for her earlier work. Another thing I will mention that has a little value in rankings is the “era” itself. This includes; promotion, tour, how it was received, and impact and legacy. With that being said, let’s begin!

13. American Life

Wow this album is not good. Many people rank this album as either last or second to last in their ranking, and I am no different. The overall concept would be good, if it were executed in a decent way. This album, however, does not execute it in a good way. There are a few standouts. “Hollywood” and “Nobody Knows Me” are good songs, but they don’t make up for this disgrace of an album. The one good thing this album gave s was the ICONIC 2003 VMA’s performance with Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera, in which Madonna kissed both women. Oh, and let’s not forget I’m Going to Tell You a Secret, an attempt to relieve her Truth or Dare days.

12. MDNA

This may have been the worst mismanaged era of Madonna’s career. When one watches the Super Bowl Halftime Show, you get excited for a new Madonna album. From this performance, you think she is going to go back to her dance/club roots and give us an album that makes us wish we lived in the 80s New York club scene. But this album leaves a lot to be desired. The first song, “Girl Gone Wild” is amazing, however, the album only goes downhill from there. There are occasional spikes, such as “Give Me All Your Lovin’” and “I’m Addicted” but other than those three songs, this album is a bunch of mush thrown together. On top of that, the obvious 2012 beats and guests’ appearances by Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. really date this album. The MDNA tour, while successful, proved that the album was not that good, as only a handful of songs made the setlist. The opening number, however, stands up there as one of Madonna’s greatest choreographed moments.

11. Rebel Heart

I wanted for this album to do so good, I really did! This album gave Madonna the most difficulty, and she ended up releasing a handful of tracks early, and I wonder if this rushed production led to a decline in quality. The one thing this album did better than its predecessor, was constancy. Madonna stuck with few producers, and they produced most of the songs. However, there were very few standout tracks on the album, and the entirety was just a bland showing form the Queen of Pop. Also, the campaign of the album, which included photoshopped images of famous world leaders and figure heads, was a mess from the beginning, and she mismanaged he backlash. Could this be the end of the Queen of Pop’s reign? Only time, and new albums will tell.

Bad: S.E.X., Body Shop to the end

10. Erotica

I don’t understand this album. It was Madonna trying to be edgy, that ended up being not good. There are a few good songs, such as “Deeper and Deeper” and the title track, but beyond that there is nothing. I think this was Madonna’s first true “flop” and it took her so long to recover (or at least in the GP’s eyes). While the entirety of the album is not bad, it left a lot to be desired, especially considering the best songs. Also, the Girlie Show proved Madonna could turn it out even with a subpar album.

9. Like a Virgin

Before you get out the pitch forks, let me explain. Back in the day, or at least until 1998, many people considered this to be one of Madonna’s best albums. However, as of 2018, it does not hold up. When it’s good, it’s good, but when it’s not it’s just average. Granted, Madonna wanted to produce this album by herself, but her label would not allow it, so we don’t know what direction she wanted to go in. “Like a Virgin” and “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” are good, and “Materiel Girl” is ok, but the rest is subpar. Being Madonna’s second album, it’s easy to understand why it’s in the middle of this list.

Bad: Nothing else is bad, but it’s not good.

8. Like a Prayer

I may be the only one with this opinion, but I did not like this album. I didn’t hate it, but it did not live up the hype that everyone gives it. The rose-colored glasses of youth and nostalgia often cloud people’s judgement of this album. While the titular track, “Express Yourself” and “Oh Father” give standout performances, the rest is just eh. I know I have said that in my other explanation, but this album truly personifies the word. Many people associate this with the height of Madonna’s popularity, her popularity truly peaked later, and with better records.

7. Hard Candy

This album is seen by many as one of Madonna’s low points. I, however, do not view it in such a way. I think this album is good. It has a consistent sound, good beats, and songs that make you want to dance. This album came at a point in Madonna’s career that needed to see her excel, which she did somewhat. The Sticky and Sweet Tour is the highest grossing tour by a female artist, and the success of this tour proved Madonna is still relevant. With songs like “Heartbeat”, “She’s Not Me” and “Miles Away” showed how vulnerable Madonna was in making this album.

Bad: There are no bad tracks per say, but there are some mediocre ones, such as Spanish Lessons and Voices.

6. Music

I do not understand the hate that this album gets. It is a solid addition to Madonna’s discography. Is it because it came right after Ray of Light? Is it because there was only one “successful” single? Who knows, but I think this is a solid addition by M. “Music” is great, but “Impressive Instant” and “Don’t Tell Me” rank up there as some of Madonna’s most underrated bops. Yes, there are a few “boring” moments, but there are none like the previous entries.

Bad: This is where I retire the bad tracks, because from here on out, there are no bad tracks, as they all have good aspects, but there are “lulls” in the album

Lull: I Deserve It, Gone

5. Madonna

Here is a perfect example of a debut album. This album is the perfect 80s dance album. From “Holiday” to “Everybody” to “Lucky Star” the dance beats on this track are amazing. And let us not forget “Borderline”. This album has few slow moments, and little to no lulls in the album. Overall, a good album for Madonna in the 80s.

4. Bedtime Stories

This is where we get into the great Madonna albums. Fromm here on out, these are true bops that have stood the test of time. Bedtime Stories is often forgot among the public. Could it be because she didn’t tour with the album, or could it be that it came out when she tried to break into acting? We will never know what this album would have sounded like live, but somehow it is better that way. The titular track, “Human Nature”, “Take a Bow” and “Secret” are all amazing songs that deserve live performances to go along with it. Also, Madonna teamed up with Babyface and Bjork! What more could you ask for in an album, a sample from ABBA? (we will get there)

Lull: If I had to pick one, “Don’t Stop” and “Inside of Me”

3.True Blue

This is Madonna’s best 80s album, don’t @ me. “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Open Your Heart”, “Live to Tell”, “La Isla Bonita” and “True Blue” are amazing! This album has no low points, it keeps up the tempo of the story, and provides s into a glimpse at a happy Madonna. Also, the amount of fun it seems like she’s having makes this album the best of her early career. As the second-best album of the 80s (Purple Rain is first, sorry I don’t make the rules) it signifies an era that Madonna was born out of. Yes, it may sound too 80s, but does that have to be a bad thing?

Lull: Where’s the Party (even that is iffy)

2. Ray of Light

In high school, I listened to Madonna regularly, however, it was mostly her hits. I downloaded the compilation album Celebration, and was obsessed with the MDNA Tour, so I knew of a few songs off Ray of Light. I like both “Frozen” and “Ray of Light”, I just didn’t know how the entire album would be. Then, I finally got my hands on a copy of the vinyl album, and from the first listen I was blown away! This album is almost perfect in every way. The aforementioned tracks, “Swim”, “Skin” “Sky Fits Heaven” and the rest of the album is amazing, and it creates one of the best dance albums. The only complaints I have is that it sounds dated, like it was a product of the early 2000s and it gave birth to Madonna’s “worst” tour, the Drowned World Tour. Other than that, it’s a perfect album.

Lull: Maybe Shanti/Ashtangi

1.Confessions on a Dancefloor

This is the best pop record of all time, hands down, no questions asked. From the opening ticks of the clock in “Hung Up” to the closing beats of “Like it or Not” this album is perfect in every single way. The use of samples, disco beats, and the infection of the dance floor anthems make this Madonna’s best album ever. She will never top this, nor do I think anyone will, though few have come close. Couple this with the visual spectacle that was the Confessions Tour, and you have the prefect album, tour, era combo ever. It’s no coincidence that this has two of my top three Madonna songs (“Hung up” and “Get Together”). Nothing is wrong with this album, and pop album truly peaked (I would say pop music but 2009 and 2011-12 are the best years in pop music)
