But now I have one ig so here it goes. Theres this documentary I watched about this woman who had insects living in her body. Well only a bit of it since im a p****y. Ever since then im scared of bugs just enteribg my body and destroying it inside out. Imagine MC just having this convo with Peter when he asked her why shes abit afraid of bugs.

Oh yeah another idea what about the draconias giving Peter a month long vacation. For his long and important service and for his troubles. Then MCs all like 'oh yeah I suggested to them to give you some compensation for everything they put you through. Anyways your welcome. Have fun!' Now Peter can go wherever he wants for a month. Of course this doesnt beat having the Draconias cutting their spending habits but this is good as well.

Peter finally gets the break he deserves! Good for him! Hundreds of years dealing with the Draconia finally paid off…right?

He never knew freedom would be so freeing. It was as if he took a fresh breath of air after centuries of being locked away.

…which technically was true if he thought about it long enough.

But where to go?

Well, no matter. He’ll figure it out.

Enjoying a drink by the beach was nice, he admitted.

The sun was bright and it hurt his eyes, but nothing an umbrella didn’t fix.

The breeze certainly was relaxing.

But why did he feel bored?

Is this what humans call restlessness?

Maybe he was more tired than he thought or maybe he needed a new hobby after having none for centuries.

Reading books for enjoyment was fun, but he enjoyed learning to paint so much more.

After staring at pages for so long, he thought he would be sick of it, but the ability to create at his fingertips brought him more joy than he realized.

So, for the rest of his break. He did just that. He read books and he painted.

Life is great.

“A painting! Peter painted while on his vacation.”

“…What is it?”

“He said it was a puppy at the beach.”

“This painting looks nothing like that.”

“Stop! I think it’s cute.”

Peter has a new hobby. He likes painting 💞🥳

Good for him, hopefully he didn’t come back to too much chaos. 🤣☺️

As for why painting? I don’t know. I felt like it would calm him to just sit and stare at scenery and try and recreate it. Calming a mind that is always anxious, you know?

Though I did have the funny idea of him just drawing with multiple arms too 😂, but he’s happy so that’s all that matters.

Similarities to MiP end roughly at that point, but I don't have a ton of plot planned out for this.

Nothing Behind the Mask - Tag I WISH I had more of an idea of what to do with this but alas. Fantasy world where Sun and Moon are powerful entities trapped in the same mask, and have magic'd up floating clothing to appear more human. Reader is there too.

Childhood Friends AU - Tag Spider-DJ and Y/N meet when they are kids. DJ's species is quite small when young, and quite large when grown, leading to an...interesting reunion when Y/N and DJ are grown.

DJMM in VR AU - Tag The 'bots in the 'Plex have access to a VR MMO. DJ and the reader meet and form a friendship there, and eventually the reader finds out their new online buddy is the giant spider 'bot from work.

One didn’t have to be Odd to travel with the circus, but it certainly helped. If one were Odd, they didn’t ask questions about how the trailers managed to move from one city to another practically overnight, even between places hundreds of miles apart. If one were Odd, they wouldn’t hesitantly mention how there didn’t seem to be any cages for animals, and yet during shows, all sorts of bedazzled beasts appeared to perform. If one were Odd, they didn’t need to bother with a net while flying.

Also an intro for another installment of 'Avengers Nonsense Starring Spider-man', my catch-all Marvel fic series. This one's called A Longterm Arrangement and is a post-Civil War fix-it, and will become free to view in two weeks:

so if taking away a witches magic makes them no longer a witch, can an old enough witch just die on the spot, or are they biologically however old they were physically (like how the royal fam stopped at around 30) and begin aging at a rate normal for their species? if taking away a witches magic makes them no longer a witch, does giving someone magic make them a witch? and if so, are they then immortal or age slower than previously? are any species (that we know of so far) unable to naturally be witches, and what happens if they’re *given* magic without biologically being able to have it? can a person have TOO much magic? what species do we know of so far and are any of them/will any of them be relevant? i want virgil to be besties with the waitstaff again :((( (not a question but it needed to be said). was sleep messing with virgil’s circadian rhythm? probably not but i just wanted to confirm because he’s a vindictive little shit who totally would 👀

A lot of good questions here and for the most part it looks like they haven't been answered before! This is exciting! *crackles knuckles* Let's dive in, shall we?

So if a witch loses their magic and therefore their immortality they don't just drop dead. Their body is still physically the age it was when they stopped aging, they just begin to age again. This applies to humans, fae are already immortal on their own their immortality just works a bit differently.

Giving someone magic does make them a witch. I think I've mentioned it before, but Remy wasn't born a witch, he got his magic from King Thomas. Gaining his own magic made him a witch and came with all of the perks of being one including immortality. Remy is indistinguishable from any other witch.

Thus far I've only put a lot of thought into humans and fae being witches, but I'd say most highly intelligent sentient species can have witches. Especially the humanoid or partially humanoid ones. So most monsters such as naga, driders, merepeople, centaurs, and vampires can all be witches. Dragons, kelpies, harpies, and sirens cannot.

it's also important to note that I said highly intelligent sentient species. That means beasts are not included. So there are no pheonix, unicorn, bear of bears, or bassilisk witches.

Could someone give a beast or non-witch monster witch magic? Yes. Chaos would happen.

No, a person couldn't have too much magic. Exibit A: Thomas. King Thomas has a ridiculous amount of magic. Should he have that much magic? Absolutely not. That shouldn't be allowed. But, hey, I didn't make the rules (yes I did) and it is what it is.

Now, if you're asking if a lot magic can have negative side effects then yes, it can potentially be overwhelming. If King Thomas got all of his magic at once it would have taken a serious toll on him and at one point he did aquire too much at once and it did take a toll. That was a the very beginning of Thomas's reign and he depended on Nico a lot to hide it. After an adjustment period he was fine, though. After that he learned to take magic gradually, one or two witches at a time with breaks in between.

Okay, so so far in the series we know of humans (obviously), fae, driders, and naga. We also know that fae are split into seelie and unseelie. Only humans and seelie are going to play major rolls in the series. As tempted as I am to play around with the many subcatagories of fae and the other species, I'm trying to keep this as simple as I can. We may see them play minor roles as in individual characters but that's it.

That being said, I am planning the brief appearance of a third major species.

Now, there are many minor species of monsters but those all defer to either the seelie or unseelie making fae a major species. Humans are also a major species. The third major species that is indepented of and can stand toe-to-toe with fae and humans is spirits. Spirits will barely appear in the series so I don't plan on doing a lot of wolrd building for them.

So all in all, only humans and fae will really be relevant.

I want Virgil to be friends with the staff again, too ;_;

Remy totally would mess with Virgil's sleep, however he was on Earth up until the day he was introduced to Virgil, so no, he didn't have anything to do with Virgil's sleeping problems.

Remy are Virgil are going to be besties! I am firmly team Those Two Getting Along. They are my babies and I love them, they must at least be friends. There will be classic sleep overs and they will get up to shananagins, so stay tuned for that.

Virgil can weave and sew. He's okay at it. he does it more for stress relief than to be good.

It was properly summer now and Rowan was glad for it. The smell of hot grass, the long sunlit days, the profusion of plants everywhere. All of it made her feel content even as her guest grumbled about the heat in the attic loft and moved to spend his days in the library room instead. 

Remus was gone as often as he was there, working on his house to make it nice enough for DN. Personally Rowan doubted the little fae would ever be content in a wild fae's home, no matter how luxurious he made it.

Remus had visited for a few days, snatching raw meat from the barbecue tray, teasing Rowan's sister much more gently than he did Rowan and soaking in attention. He had to go back, he'd made a deal with a fae craftsman and needed to pick up something. 

“Here.” Rowan held out a music box and headphones. “I made you a couple of mixes so you can listen to them instead of your own head. It helps me sometimes.” 

Remus hooked his arm around her and squished her. 

“Aw, you like me.”

“Whatever gives you that impression. Must be all the affection.” her eyes rolled but she smiled, and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "You'll need to come back and charge it every few days." 

"Oooooh music treat and reminder of the passage of time, you're a wicked one."

“Do you not want to borrow the camera?” she asked wiggling the small blue box in her other hand. “I thought you wanted to show me your house.” 

“Ooh ohh gimmie!” he made grabby hands at it. “It’s looking so good! The moss is in all the right places and the wood’s all polished on the inside.” 

"It sounds nice." She admitted. I can't wait to see."

"Sometime I'll bring you to see it.” He said in a way that sounded like a promise, fiddling with the camera. “I should get a phone.” 

“That’ll be fun.” Rowan snorted, picturing him walking into the wireless store. "Would it even work?"

"Oh yeah, probably. The spider and honey and cream use theirs underhill after all. Think no-thank-you daddy long legs is playing antenna."

Rowan considered that. 

"Well, it is just waves of energy, and magic can be described that way." 

"Neat." Reaching out he fluffed her bangs, and grinned at Danger Noodle who was catching a breeze with a glass of lemonade on the porch and certainly wasn't there to see Remus off. He had, after all,  made it clear he didn't care either way. “Should I bring you anything?”

“Properly made food would be good.” he said, sounding bored. “I’d ask for a change of clothes but I don’t trust your fashion choices.” 

“Just wait and see!” Remus said brightly, and bounded off into the woods like a hyperactive deer.

“... I’m glad to see him happy.” Rowan commented. 

“Hmf.”

“He was very sad when I met him.” she continued. “Not that it was easy to tell of course. On account of the batshit crazy.”

“He was like that when I met him.” 

“I’m sure.”

Three days later, Remus reappeared, singing ‘New Rules’ by Dua Lipa and carrying a bundle and a basket. He handed over both the camera and mp3 player to Rowan, kissed her mother on the cheek while getting a cookie, and moved into the library where Danger Noodle was reading in a window seat. He looked up as Remus entered. 

“Well that wasn’t any faster than usual.” 

“Would have been back yesterday, but I was getting something.” Remus said, plopping down on the floor next to the window seat. Rowan had followed him in, apparently she had also been reading, in an armchair instead, if the glass of sweet tea he brought in and the book she picked up were any clues. 

Remus handed the basket to D.N. Inside he found a veritable picnic of fairy food that could be eaten cold, and kept fairly well. Danger Noodle had mainly been joking, while the preparation was different, and some things were procured by magic, food was food. Though he could be absolutely sure that these hadn’t been touched by steel, let alone iron. He put a tiny meat pie in his mouth and let it dissolve a bit rather than chewing, savoring the flavors. 

“Also this.” He opened the bundle and produced some fabric, a jacket, a pair of pants, some fine stockings and gloves. They looked a little bit too big for D.N. “I remembered what you said, but these looked like things you’d worn before, so I thought it might be okay?”

“Not exactly suitable for my current situation.” He sniffed, looking at the soft embossed leather of the coat over. Despite that, he looked slightly pleased. “You really go out of the way to find things I’ve asked for.”

“Yep!” Remus grinned, looking happy. “I want you to be as happy as possible.” 

“Anything I ask?” 

“Pretty much.” He was pulling more clothing out of the bundle, grinning to himself. 

“And what if I asked you to kill her?”

The smile disappeared as Remus’s eyes went wide and his head came up like he’d been physically struck.

“Please don’t ask me that.”

“I need to know.” 

“Please.” his voice was a thin whine. 

“It’s okay.” Rowan said quietly, calling attention to herself. “Take my body somewhere it won’t be found.”

“What?” 

“He needs to know you love him more than me. So.” She opened her arms, as if inviting a blow or a hug. “Painless would be good too.” 

Remus looked back at D.N. who sighed theatrically.

“I’m not actually asking.” he said “She’s right, annoyingly. Also annoyingly more useful alive.”

“Careful.” She picked her book up again. “Someone might think you’re starting to like me.” 

“I don’t think that’s terribly likely.” 

Remus stood up, suddenly enough that they both turned to stare at him. 

“I’m going.” he said, and headed out the back door.  “I’ll be back.” the door slammed. 

“I think you upset him.” Rowan said quietly. 

“Oh, and your reaction had nothing to do with it.” he curled his lip. “Would you really have let him kill you?” 

“What about our interactions makes you think that I value my life?” Rowan retorted. 

“You aren’t dead yet. It’s not something I’d recommended, personally.” 

“Well the people I piss off generally can’t curse me.”

“You’re not too old to change.” 

“Again, with your odd brand of compliments.” she snorted and took a sip of her tea. “I could wish you hadn’t chased him away when he just got back.” 

“He’ll be fine. Thinking big thoughts takes him time.” He began sorting through the clothes in the bundle. 

“Giving him a philosophical dilemma about his emotions is just unkind.”

“So am I.” He held up a shirt in dove gray and frowned at it. “Do be quiet if you’re going to be in the same room with me. I’m not Remus, I don’t like your peculiar brand of humor and your key-dead voice.” 

Rowan huffed and picked up her book and glass. 

“Fine. I’m going to keep watch for him, in case he needs a hug when he gets back.”

“You do that.”

“And who knows. Maybe he’ll realize he deserves better.” 

“He hasn’t in a hundred years.” 

Rowan glanced back at him, not quite sure what he meant, not wanting to know what he meant.

The rest of the afternoon was fairly quiet, and the moon was just rising when Remus let himself back in. The rest of Rowan’s family had gone off to see a movie, and Rowan had stayed behind because she was waiting for Remus, and not really interested in the movie.  Remus looked like he’d been in a fight, and the winner was uncertain. His knuckle were bloodied and there were sticks and bits of leaves in his hair. Danger Noodle had taken over the table in the library- possibly his favorite room because once the fire tools had been moved out, there was no cast iron in it- and was prodding at the clothing, muttering to himself and drinking something that was the color of moonstone that had been in the basket. He looked up as Remus entered. The green knight shifted on his feet.

“I’ve decided.” Remus said slowly. “That the answer would be no.”  

“What?”

“I love you.” he said it simply, like an absolute truth. “And I always will. I will protect you. But I am not going to help you hurt me anymore.” this Remus said like it hurt.  D.N. just looked confused, but Rowan immediately hugged Remus, flinging her arms around his neck and pressing their cheeks together. 

“Don’t get too excited, little tree.” Remus mumbled, even as he supported her weight “It’s true now, but who knows how long it will be.”

“I’m still so proud of you.” she retorted. “That had to have been hard to decide.”  She kept holding onto him, so she wouldn't have to look at the baffled, terrified expression that haunted the edges of D.N.’s eyes. It was so much easier just to think of him as a one note villain. 

Even if she held onto the hope he could change, if only for Remus’s sake.

Gathering the Hunt: Green Joins the Party Part 14

Welcome to the lore dump! Thanks to @shamrockace and @autumnleafauthor for all their work on this and rping this with me

Green went back to her reading, and inside ‘If You See A Fairy Ring’ was a collection of poems by many different poets. Many of these poems were blatantly fictional, displaying the Fae and kind and generous higher beings. Tiny Fae living in mushroom houses with tiny sheep and grandiose wedding decorated the gold spider silk.

Basically, a load of bullshit.

However, and thankfully for it was getting so saccharine Green thought her teeth might fall out, there was one poem that was very different. It was on a loose sheet of parchment tucked between the last page and cover. It read:

‘Forests vast, and rivers deep.

Will O’ Wisps, show me where the Fae keep.

Trinkets and treasure, cursed and blessed.

If found, take them not or else you’ll be stressed.

If deals with a Fae threaten to lead you astray.

Stones that sing is what you should bring.

If all else fails, offerings of goods may be what prevails.’

“Okay. So in the Western Forest, follow the Will O’ Wisps, bring food, shiny things and singing rocks?”

“Singing rocks?” Ivy looked over at Green. “Where do you plan on finding them?” sentient, singing rocks did not sound easy.

Green muttered to herself as she set the spare piece of parchment to one side and put the book on the floor. “I don’t even know what is meant by them…”

“Okaaaaaaaaaaaay,” not knowing what to make of that, Ivy went back to tracing her route. She almost had it, but wanted to be sure. She might check multiple times even. Then flick through the rest of the book just in case there was a more up to date map. She doubted it, but you never know.

Green meanwhile made notes of the poem, while reaching for the next book, flipping it open as she wrote. It opened at a random page, and printed at the top was ‘Rule 7’ which titled a dull and rambling chapter.

‘When making a deal with a Fae, it is imperative to follow Rules 1-6. If even the most basic forms of these rules are ignored, then the Fae will create traps and loopholes within the deal in order to make it impossible to free yourself from the deal, even after upholding your original half of the deal.’

 --

“Oh wow…” Green breathed.

“Hmmmm?” Ivy looked over, “what have you found?”

Green didn’t respond immediately, continuing to read. One passage on the page had ink that was a slightly different colour to the rest. It had a red tinge.

 --

‘One of the most infamous Fae Deal Makers, is a Fae from the Fae Bands of Fasithe. This Fae, according to ‘witnesses’, has called itself Phantom. Despite being infamous, not much is known about them due to first hand accounts being few and far between.

‘Some say that having seen this Phantom is enough for it to force you into a deal to steal your soul. Others say that Phantom is a business Fae first and foremost. Due to these conflicting reports, the true nature of this Fae is unknown. It is not recommended to attempt to make deals with this or any other Fae, lest you lose your soul over it.’

 --

“Green?”

“Apparently there is a whole rulebook for Fae deals and I’ve just found it…” Green didn’t sound like she believed what she was seeing, or saying.

“Excellent!” Ivy missed Green’s disbelief. “I’ll finish up here and then have a look,” she did what she hoped was her final check and made a light mark on the map where the abduction likely took place.

Green proceeded to go back a few pages to try to find the first rule of the list, reading silently. The page labelled ‘Rule 1’ was split into the two sections.

‘The first rule of all Fae interactions is that you must always be perfectly polite and communicate in a way that no errors or misunderstandings can be construed.’

 --

This paragraph then prattled on about all the colloquialisms and phrases and metaphors that must never be used in front of Fae.

“Okay, I’ve got a location,” Ivy collected her journal from Green’s table and flicked to a clean page to try and copy down that section of map. “How’s it going with you?”

“Well I’ve got some guidelines that require reading and analysis, but I am fairly glad that this wasn’t just a failed attempt…” Green didn’t even look up from her reading as she spoke.

“Okay,” Ivy was also a little distracted, mentally cursing as she tried and failed to copy the map. Charles was the artist, not her!

It didn’t take long for her mental cursing to become audible, as she messed it up again!

“MOTHERFUCKER!” she yelled suddenly as she got the river angle wrong for the third time, nearly ripping the paper in her frustration.

“…you okay?” Green was still flipping through the book, but was now also concerned.

Ivy rested her forehead on the table. “…I hate drawing,” she muttered, muffled. “I’m awful at it.”

“How bumpy is the map? The original,” Green clarified.

“Not that bumpy. I don’t think I can trace it.”

“Hmmmm,” Green put her book to one side and reached for a long book laying on a shelf nearby. She dispelled the spell on the chandelier and instead lit up the book, then went over and put it underneath the map.

“Try it now!”

“Whoa,” Ivy blinked, now able to clearly see all the lines, even through a layer of paper. “This is amazing…”

She put her page back over the map and began to trace much more confidently. Green went back to taking notes on the common phrases to avoided while dealing Fae. Once she was done with that, she moved onto the second part of ‘Rule 1’, which consisted of the why certain phrases must never be used.

 --

‘One of the words and phrases you must never under any circumstances utter in the presence of a Fae of any kind of thank you. If you absolutely must thank a Fae, there is only one way and that is to either compliment the Fae “You are most gratuitous” or you must use “I appreciate this that you have done for me” or anything along those lines. If you do not use this type of language, then a Fae may take anything from you that they deem to be of equal value. And according to many accounts, Fae will often deem your soul to be of equal value.’

 --

All of this was scribbled down, Green muttering phrases in order to commit them to memory.

Meanwhile Ivy now had a much easier time copying the map over and could put a much more confident mark on the abduction site. She then took the time to add annotations, including which road they took and what potential dangers might be around. Including the Droopbells, and the bear.

As she annotated, she realised she had forgotten something in the drama of the abduction.

“We met another Fae in the forest.”

“You did?” Green looked up from the last sentence she wrote.

“Yeah,” Ivy was half distracted as she spoke. “Shadow like, really interested in some giant grasshopped we found, with silver blood. Had to hand it over, but it only took the blood, for some reason.”

“Shadow like, you say?” Green kept her current book open while she reached for the third tome and inspected the cover. This was the one with plain cover of parchment, and a drawing of an uncanny looking humanoid. ‘A Mortal’s Guide to All Things Fae’

After looking long at the figure on the cover, Green returned to the rule book, having not found what she thought she would.

“Yeah, really weird interaction,” Ivy added. “I wonder if finding that Shadow would be easier than Paultin? Just need to find a Moonblood grasshopper…”

“Maybe… the question is only if it is quite as useful as him,” Green wasn’t focusing on her words too much.

“Or as friendly,” Ivy thought she had it. “They let us go, but I don’t know if they’ll so that again…”

“Exactly,” Green turned her full attention back to reading.

Ivy had almost finished her tracing by this point, adding a bit more detail to the edges to make sure she knew where this would be when they came back.

Green had reached the page labelled ‘Rule 2’

‘When communicating with Fae be very careful to pay attention to what exactly is being said, for as much as what is spoken, is unspoken. This is one of the ways that Fae are so often manipulative and able to find loopholes. This ties in to what is mentioned in Rule 7.’

Green raised an eyebrow as she copied this down. She felt, no, knew, that this was going to be a lot of work.

As she copied Ivy began packing up the atlas, carefully folding back in every added piece of paper so not to damage it. It took longer than she hoped, the paper being uncooperative, but eventually she was putting it back on the shelf.

“Do you want a reading partner Green?”

“You can take the last book I currently have here…”

Ivy sat on Green’s table, and having misheard, took the book Green was currently using. “How many notes have you taken so far? Can I move on or am I stuck on this page?”

Green looked at her, patient and a little exasperated. “You can start reading the paper cover one. I’ll continue here. The other one is un-started.”

“Ah, that makes more sense,” Ivy sheepishly handed back the book and took the plain one. “A Mortal’s Guide to All Things Fae,” she muttered to herself before opening it, a little unnerved by the cover.

The front page of it had a line going down the centre with strange markings in the middle. Ivy leaned back slightly to take it in before leaning in again, unsure of what she was looking at. She turned the page to see if that was an anomaly.

Thankfully, the second page had a script she could actually read.

‘This book was written to record my encounters with the Fae and hopefully provide information for those who go looking for the Fae themselves.’

Finding this promising, Ivy opened her notebook to a fresh page and made a note of the title, with her quill primed to take notes. The third page read;

‘I had only been a young boy when I encountered my first Fae. A wretched being that wanted nothing more than to see myself be grievously injured or even die trying to jump from a tree…’

 --

Ivy made a note about how cruel some Fae could be, and turned the page. The second page continued on about cruel this particular Fae had been to the author at such a dangerous moment.

“And?” Green asked as Ivy mumbled to herself. “Sound like something worth our time?”

“It’s a first hand account of dealing with Fae. Might have something.”

“Indeed it might have,” Green also had not looked up from her book as she spoke. She was on to Rule 3 now.

‘Many first hand accounts have mentioned that the Fae will often ask for your name. Due to conflicting accounts, it is unknown if Fae knowing your true name is dangerous or not but the general consensus is that Fae closely guard their true names for they can be controlled and commanded by one with that knowledge. It is said more powerful Fae will steal the names of weaker Fae to bind them to working for them. How true that is, is unknown.’

Right at the bottom was a scribbled note by an asterisk.

‘Many recommend giving the Fae a false name should they ask.’

 --

“Interesting…” Green muttered while writing down ‘potential weapon’ next to this paragraph in her notes.

Ivy meanwhile was skim reading her book now, trying to find something solid. Most of the book was the author venting about Fae encounters. Although thankfully one chapter was interesting.

Unfortunately the interesting chapter was not written in a language Ivy knew. Down the margin were more of the strange symbols from the first page, and the chapter read like it was coded. Random words were capitalised and seemingly random numbers scribbled at the bottom of the page.

“What the…” Ivy squinted at it, as if it would make it clearer. “What is this? Some kind of cypher?”

“Hmmm?” Green looked up from her book. “Give it here, maybe I know it.”

“Here,” Ivy pushed it across the table. “It’s different to the rest of the book.”

Green looked at it, and her eyes widened.

“I… I know this! I might even get a few words, and if not, I know someone who could!”

“Really!? What kind of script or code is it?”

“It’s the Feadhainn script! I’ve literally just translated multiple versions of a Fae legend together with dear Morgana, who is, if I might say, an expert in this!” Green squinted a little. “Of course, it’s still encoded, but that should not be much of a problem.”

“I’ll leave it to you then,” Ivy felt a useless honestly. She had a decent academic mind, or at least thought she did. It was just here, she felt like she was falling short.

“No, I’m sure you can help.” Green seemed to notice Ivy’s lowering mood. “It looks to be a rather simple coding mechanism of transcription, and the numbers at the bottom have something to do with it. Transcription means the letters have merely changed place.”

“Okay.”

“I cannot do more than you in this case, since we both have the same knowledge to start figuring this out with. Since the letters must be in an order first to translatable first, we must take the step of decoding before I, or perhaps Morgana, if necessary, can take a look at the meaning.”

Ivy’s brain was a little fried, but thought she got it.

“So, I need to figure out what order the symbols go in, and I don’t need to know what they mean in order to do that?”

“I hope so, yes…” Green trailed off in thought. “Maybe, if you want to, I can catch you up on the rules I’ve found so far in this book first, then present you with the rest as we go along and afterwards we can try and find ways to decryption together?”

“Sounds like a good idea,” Ivy stretched her arms above her head. “And I can go through the notes I have from Mags and see if that adds anything.”

“Sounds like a plan to me. And I find it makes decryption easier to have two creative minds working on a solution. So I’ve told you about the poem that I found to be quite useful, and this book here actually has rules for a Fae encounter! It starts off with Rule 1, about what to say to a Fae, which together with Rule Number 2, being very careful about what you say, makes for a good start already. Now Rule Number 7 mentions a Fae specifically, Phantom. Maybe an entity to stay away from. It then continues with Rule 3, going on about names, and that’s how far I’ve come.”

“Okay,” Ivy flicked through Mags’s notes as Green spoke. “That matches up. Phantom is new, and worrying sounding.”

“Yes, indeed,” Green flicked through her book. “Okay. So the next rule is…” she began to read Rule 4 out loud.
