Just before the pandemic  started, I found myself working on a drawing inspired by a song that has frequently gotten stuck in my head, Camper Van Beethoven's Humid Press of Days.  The lyrics to me convey the fascination, exhilaration and closely linked terror of space travel.  It speaks about the periods beyond just ignition and taking off -- the silence and still dull emptiness -- and what that means for a living feeling body.

I could not help but project that onto the story of Laika, the street dog in the Soviet Union selected for the Sputnik program and the thoughts ended up a pen and ink:

Which I later added in a hand written frame of the lyrics and gave to a friend who loves space and science fiction for Christmas.

I liked the design from my drawing enough, I wanted to do some sort of edition of it and landed on making it an enamel pin.  

Most of the photos I found of Laika's flight gear were in black and white, so I tried to select colors that reminded me of NASA suits I had seen. For the backing card, I included the constellations Orion, Lepus the rabbit, and of course Canis Major and Minor. Laika sits in the center on top of the unicorn constellation, Monoceros.

And that's the background on my tribute to the little dog that went to space.

Based on a conversation with @horror-lady00 when she showed me the opening to an old late 70’s Japanese show called The Super Girl. Unrelated to the DC character, it had an animated opening sequence featuring a sexy cat lady, but was a live action spy thriller with kinky aspects.

Horror-lady came up with the bit with Sputnik (L) and Specs (R), and I drew it lol.

The bit with Braverman and JD I doodled on the fly, based on one of @how-very-salty’s Sexy JD’s pieces, just with Kurt in the role. Somewhat poking fun at senior photos of students that sometimes resemble something from a modeling magazine.

This is a follow-up to Barbera's Where They Purr features US cats (and interiors). In his introduction he calls out Lady Penelope as one of his favorite subjects -- there's a reproduction of Sputnik in the living room of her place, a penthouse in New York City's financial district that also includes an adult-sized slide, a lamp that looks like a small horse, and the coolest place for a cat to take a nap I've ever seen. My favorite space is the one in Chelsea, New York, that's filled with more books and cats (three) than my wife would ever allow. The shelves are amazing, but so are the stacks of books that seem to function as furniture. Amen.

Includes a visual table of contents featuring cats, plus a number of photos of each interior/cat habitat, words describing the space and its occupants (ranging from one to nine in number), and a Q&A about the cat(s) in that chapter.

🇺🇲🇮🇱🪖 🚨 VETERAN AMERICAN MERCENARIES FIGHTING IN UKRAINE ARE SPOTTED IN GAZA

The American mercenary firm, Forward Observations Group (FOG), previously known for its presence in Ukraine, has claimed to have active members engaged in combat inside Gaza on behalf of Israel, Sputnik has learned.

FOG's official social media accounts have posted numerous photos and videos from Israel, including the southern territories near the Gaza border and the Gaza Strip itself. Some of the images show equipment decked out with both US and Ukrainian flags.

Since March 2022, FOG members have made multiple visits to Ukraine. The company openly acknowledges its involvement in fighting alongside the Kiev regime, namely, in the battle for Severodonetsk.

Forward Observations Group was officially registered as a private company in the state of Nevada on October 15, 2020. It was founded by Derrick Bales, a former US soldier who has served in Afghanistan.

#StephenSondheim wrote those stirring lyrics for “Our Time,” the emotional climax to @merrilyonbway, in which we see the three friends who started the show in turmoil go all the way back in time to their first meeting as innocents on an apartment rooftop looking up at orbiting Sputnik, full of hope for their futures.

Since it opened, @emiliomadrid has had the idea of photographing the stars of the current revival—#JonathanGroff @lindsaymendez and #DanielRadcliffe—on the rooftop of his studio at dusk.

I immediately thought of the lyrics above, and wanted to present these three now veteran performers not as the rooftop innocents they play onstage at the Hudson Theatre but as the seasoned pros that have become, enlivening the theater season with their pitch-perfect performances that are key to making this notoriously difficult show a hit at last.

Been seeing stuff about the Green Party and one part has me worried.

Now, I want to say that I have a hard time fully understanding all propaganda I get shown. That's literally the point of it, confuse people into thinking it's right.

(Note: this is using Propaganda as the following definition: information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.)

With that, I remember not knowing who she was until 2020 came around, and the key thing I was shown over and over was her apparent (I say that because I'm genuinely curious if what I was shown was evidence or lying by omission) ties to Putin and the Russian Oligarchy.

I'm gonna just Copy/Paste the section from Wikipedia so I don't miscommunicate what it shows:

On December 18, 2017, The Washington Post reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee was looking at Stein's presidential campaign for potential "collusion with the Russians."[90] The Stein campaign released a statement stating it would work with investigators.[91]

In December 2018, two reports commissioned by the US Senate found that the Internet Research Agency boosted Stein's candidacy through social media posts, targeting African-American voters in particular. After consulting the two reports, NBC News reporter Robert Windrem said that nothing suggested Stein knew about the operation, but added that "the Massachusetts physician ha[d] long been criticized for her support of international policies that mirror Russian foreign policy goals." Windrem reported that his publisher (NBC News) had found that in 2015 and 2016 there had been over 100 favorable stories about Stein on Russian state-owned media networks RT and Sputnik.[92] In 2015, Stein was photographed dining at the same table as Russian president Vladimir Putin at the RT 10th anniversary gala in Moscow, leading to controversy.[93][94] Stein contended that she had no contact with Putin at the dinner and described the situation as a "non-event".[95]

In an official statement, Stein called one of the reports, the one authored by New Knowledge, "dangerous new McCarthyism" and asked the Senate Committee to retract it, saying the firm was "sponsored by partisan Democratic funders" and had itself been shown to have been "directly involved in election interference" in the 2017 US Senate election in Alabama.[96]

By July 31, 2018, Stein had spent slightly under $100,000 of the recount money on legal representation linked to the Senate probe into election interference.[97] In March 2019, Stein's spokesman David Cobb said she had "fully cooperated with the Senate inquiry."[98]

In October 2019, Hillary Clinton said that Russia's ongoing efforts to influence U.S. elections included a plot to support a third-party candidate in 2020, which could either be Jill Stein, whom she described as a "Russian asset," or Tulsi Gabbard.[99] A few days later, Clinton's comments were clarified to indicate that she thought that it was, in fact, Republicans who were behind the plot.[100] Stein denounced Clinton's comments on both herself and Gabbard, describing them as "slanderous".[101]

So the question is, is she a Russian asset? Does she genuinely have a history related to Putin? I believe there is a photo of her at a dinner with Putin and some other GOP people, but is it taken out of Context? Is it a meeting where she realizes she doesn't agree with them stuff? Legit I don't know, I want information, with sources please.

Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the Moon

The Apollo 8 mission was a historic moment in space exploration. Launched on December 21, 1968, it was the first mission to send humans beyond low Earth orbit and into the depths of space. The three-man crew, consisting of Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders, became the first humans to ever see the dark side of the moon.

The mission was a major turning point in the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. In the years leading up to Apollo 8, the Soviets had taken the lead in the race to the moon, launching the first successful satellite (Sputnik) and the first human into space (Yuri Gagarin). But with the successful completion of the Apollo 8 mission, the United States regained the upper hand, setting the stage for the eventual moon landing by Apollo 11 just six months later.

The Apollo 8 mission was not without its challenges and dangers. The spacecraft, called the Saturn V, was the largest and most powerful rocket ever built at the time. It was so powerful, in fact, that it could have easily blown up on the launch pad.

Once in space, the crew of Apollo 8 faced a number of challenges, including the danger of being hit by space debris, the difficulty of navigating in deep space, and the extreme cold and isolation of being so far from Earth. But they persevered, and on December 24, they became the first humans to orbit the moon.

During their time in lunar orbit, the crew of Apollo 8 conducted a number of scientific experiments and they read from the book of Genesis during a Christmas Eve television broadcast to the people of Earth. After completing ten orbits of the moon, the crew of Apollo 8 returned safely to Earth on December 27, 1968, but not before taking this famous “Earthrise” photo, which shows the Earth rising over the moon’s horizon and is now in the holdings of the National Archives.
