IT'S BEEN A WHILE

I know it's been a while since I posted the last time. I have probably not propperly introduced my twin daughters though. They are not Mateo's kids, but he is taking his role as stepfather very seriously, and loves them like his own.

I haven't posted much as we have been very busy with the curly youngsters, and the girls has been hitting the pre-teen year very hard. They are constantly moody and has a hard time getting along with each other. Not that it worries me much. That's just how teenagers are, and so a pre-teens.

So today, to stop the constant teasing and arguing with each other, we took one twin each. I took Sorine, while Mateo brought Larke out for a hack on two of our adult horses.

I got to take a single picture of them, as they road out. The mare Larke is riding is a mare we bought from @echointernationaljumpers. They had gotten her from a boarder who had to move back to Australia, and didn't know what to do with her, since they didn't know anything about the western disciplines at all.

So we have taken Jammies (OCS Thats My Jam) in, and even if we don't exactly breed Paints or Quarters we will find a use for her. She can maybe be a part of our curly breeding program in time. Otherwise she can be Larke's horse. My girl has already taken quite a liking to the mare, and talks about her as 'her horse'.

While Mateo and Larke was out for a hack. I asked Sorine to join me in the arena. She always seems much calmer when riding, so I thought that would do her good. She mostly rides the only adult curly we have at the moment, which is Fosmanta (RRS Fosmanta). She is a sweet mare, though she needs a little more of an experienced rider than Jammies does.

But Sorine is handling her very nicely. She is definitely the one who is the most interested in the technical parts of the riding, while Larke just likes speed and a good hack.

Hopefully we will, in the new year, buy a few cows, so the cow horse training can begin. That's something I have tried a lot when I was young in Texas, and always wanted to implement at my own barn. So that's something for the new year!

We will see if the curlies have any real cow sense when that time comes. Until then we have been allowed to use some of the cattle on a neighboring farm, if we just tells them in good time.

Welcome to the new Dead End Ranch!

DER is a smaller western barn which has been housing Quarter Horses, Paint Horses and Appaloosas for years on now. It has just been bought from Julieta Hernandez by Mette Thorne, who has bought the six remaining horses from Julieta to mix with the herd of old broodmares and old studs of the breed American Curly Horse.

I am the Mette Thorne. My plan is currently to breed the Stocks with the Curlies, so I can make a stock based Curly, which will be the base of my breed focus: American Curly Horses.

In the first picture we have the mares (ttl Tootsie Roo, ttr Moonlight Sonata) who has just arrived to the pasture to enjoy a little afternoon sun, as the leaves grows red, yellow and orange and the weather gets cooler.

They have been impregnated by OCS Cool Breeze (for Tootsie Roo) and DER Hidden Pear (for Moonlight Sonata), and will hopefully soon give birth to a new generation of Curlies.

This is the curly stallion herd. From left to right we have Copper Jacket, Heartdancer and Texas Storm. They have covered the mares OCS Wakinyan Runner, DER Bloody Mary and SS Waps Mystic Moxie - in that order. Those mares will hopefully give birth soon too, to add to the new generation of Curlies.

This is an overview of our new facilities. It isn't much, but as we grow we will build!

Has anyone articulated a name for that particular genre of online work that takes easily recognisable pop culture characters and remixes them into something profound and absurd at the same time. Like stuff like Mr Boop, Shag and Scoob, that one comic about Bobby KingoftheHill giving marriage counselling to Bart Simpson and that Family Guy lad. Like it’s definitely fanfic adjacent but it’s also so different. There’s something here but idk someone smarter than me work it out.
